High-Tc nodeless s±-wave superconductivity in (Y,La)FeAsO(1-y) with Tc=50 K:75As-NMR study

We report on an (75)As-NMR study on the Fe-pnictide high-T(c) superconductor Y(0.95)La(0.05)FeAsO(1-y) (Y(0.95)La(0.05)1111) with T(c)=50 K that includes no magnetic rare-earth elements. The measurement of the nuclear-spin lattice-relaxation rate (75)(1/T(1)) has revealed that the nodeless bulk superconductivity takes place at T(c)=50 K while antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations develop moderately in the normal state. These features are consistently described by the multiple fully gapped s(±)-wave model based on the Fermi-surface nesting. Incorporating the theory based on band calculations, we propose that the reason that T(c)=50 K in Y(0.95)La(0.05)1111 is larger than T(c)=28 K in La1111 is that the Fermi-surface multiplicity is maximized, and hence the Fermi-surface nesting condition is better than that in La1111.

Possibility of valence-fluctuatsion-mediated superconductivity in Cd-doped CeIrIn(5) probed by In NQR

We report on a pressure-induced evolution of exotic superconductivity and spin correlations in CeIr(In(1-x)Cd(x))(5) by means of in-nuclear-quadrupole-resonance (NQR) studies. Measurements of an NQR spectrum and nuclear-spin-lattice-relaxation rate 1/T(1) have revealed that antiferromagnetism induced by Cd doping emerges locally around Cd dopants, but superconductivity is suddenly induced at T(c)=0.7 and 0.9 K at 2.34 and 2.75 GPa, respectively. The unique superconducting characteristics with a large fraction of the residual density of state at the Fermi level which increases with T(c) differ from those for anisotropic superconductivity mediated by antiferromagnetic correlations. By incorporating the pressure dependence of the NQR frequency pointing to the valence change of Ce, we suggest that unconventional superconductivity in the CeIr(In(1-x)Cd(x))(5) system may be mediated by valence fluctuations.

Antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations and unconventional nodeless superconductivity in an iron-based new superconductor (Ca4Al2O(6-y))(Fe2As2): 75As nuclear quadrupole resonance study

We report 75As nuclear quadrupole resonance studies on (Ca4Al2O(6-y))(Fe2As2) with T(c) = 27  K. Measurement of nuclear-spin-relaxation rate 1/T1 has revealed a significant development of two-dimensional antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations down to T(c) in association with the smallest As-Fe-As bond angle. Below T(c), the temperature dependence of 1/T1 without any trace of the coherence peak is well accounted for by a nodeless s(±)-wave multiple-gaps model. From the fact that its T(c) is comparable to T(c) = 28  K in the optimally doped LaFeAsO(1-y) in which antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations are not dominant, we remark that antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations are not a unique factor for enhancing T(c) among Fe-based superconductors, but a condition for optimizing superconductivity should be addressed from the lattice structure point of view.

Spin susceptibility of noncentrosymmetric heavy-fermion superconductor CeIrSi3 under pressure: 29Si Knight-shift study on single crystal

We report 29Si NMR study on a single crystal of the heavy-fermion superconductor CeIrSi3 without an inversion symmetry along the c axis. The 29Si Knight-shift measurements under pressure have revealed that the spin susceptibility for the ab plane decreases slightly below T(c), whereas along the c axis it does not change at all. The result can be accounted for by the spin susceptibility in the superconducting state being dominated by the strong antisymmetric (Rashba-type) spin-orbit interaction that originates from the absence of an inversion center along the c axis and it being much larger than superconducting condensation energy. This is the first observation which exhibits an anisotropy of the spin susceptibility below T(c) in the noncentrosymmetric superconductor dominated by strong Rashba-type spin-orbit interaction.

Enhancement of superconducting transition temperature due to the strong antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations in the noncentrosymmetric heavy-fermion superconductor CeIrSi3: A 29Si NMR study under pressure

We report a (29)Si NMR study on the pressure-induced superconductivity (SC) in an antiferromagnetic (AFM) heavy-fermion compound CeIrSi(3) without inversion symmetry. In the SC state at P = 2.7-2.8 GPa, the temperature (T) dependence of the nuclear-spin lattice relaxation rate 1/T(1) below T(c) exhibits a T(3) behavior without any coherence peak just below T(c), revealing the presence of line nodes in the SC gap. In the normal state, 1/T(1) follows a square root T-like behavior, suggesting that the SC emerges under the non-Fermi-liquid state dominated by AFM spin fluctuations enhanced around a quantum critical point. The reason why the maximum T(c) in CeIrSi(3) is relatively high among the Ce-based heavy-fermion superconductors may be the existence of the strong AFM spin fluctuations. We discuss the comparison with the other Ce-based heavy-fermion superconductors.

Uniform mixing of antiferromagnetism and high-temperature superconductivity in electron-doped layers of four-layered Ba(2)Ca(3)Cu(4)O(8)F(2): a new phenomenon in an electron underdoped regime

We report (63,65)Cu- and (19)F-NMR studies on a four-layered high-temperature superconductor Ba(2)Ca(3)Cu(4)O(8)F(2)((0234F(2.0)) with apical fluorine (F(-1)), an undoped 55 K superconductor with a nominal Cu(2+) valence on average. We reveal that this compound exhibits the antiferromagnetism (AFM) with a Néel temperature T(N)=100 K despite being a T(c)=55 K superconductor. Through a comparison with a related trilayered cuprate Ba(2)Ca(3)Cu(4)O(8)F(2)(0233F(2.0)), it is demonstrated that electrons are transferred from the inner plane (IP) to the outer plane (OP) in 0234F(2.0) and 0223F(2.0), confirming the self-doped high-temperature superconductivity (HTSC) having electron and hole doping in a single compound. Remarkably, uniform mixing of AFM and HTSC takes place in both the electron-doped OPs and the hole-doped IPs in 0234F(2.0).

Two-staged magnetoresistance driven by the Ising-like spin sublattice in SrCo6O11

A two-staged, uniaxial magnetoresistive effect has been discovered in SrCo6O11 having a layered hexagonal structure. Conduction electrons and localized Ising spins are in different sublattices but their interpenetration makes the conduction electrons sensitively pick up the stepwise field dependence of magnetization. The stepwise field dependence suggests two competitive interlayer interactions between ferromagnetic Ising-spin layers, i.e., a ferromagnetic nearest-layer interaction and an antiferromagnetic next-nearest-layer interaction. This oxide offers a unique opportunity to study nontrivial interplay between conduction electrons and Ising spins, the coupling of which can be finely controlled by a magnetic field of a few Tesla.

Uniform mixing of high-Tc superconductivity and antiferromagnetism on a single CuO2 plane of a Hg-based five-layered cuprate

We report a site selective Cu-NMR study on underdoped Hg-based five-layered high-Tc cuprate HgBa2Ca4CU5O(12+delta) with a Tc = 72 K. Antiferromagnetism (AFM) has been found to take place at T(N) = 290 K, exhibiting a large antiferromagnetic moment of 0.67-0.69 microB at three inner planes (IP). This value is comparable to the values reported for nondoped cuprates, suggesting that the IP may be in a nearly nondoped regime. Most surprisingly, the AFM order is also detected with M(AFM)(OP) = 0.1 microB even at two outer planes (OP) that are responsible for the onset of superconductivity (SC). The high-Tc SC at Tc = 72 K can uniformly coexist on a microscopic level with the AFM at OP's. This is the first microscopic evidence for the uniform mixed phase of AFM and SC on a single CuO2 plane in a simple environment without any vortex lattice and/or stripe order.

Anisotropic superconducting gap in the spin-triplet superconductor Sr2RuO4: evidence from a Ru-NQR study

We have investigated a gap structure in the spin-triplet superconductor Sr2RuO4 through the measurement of the 101Ru nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate (101)(1/T1) down to 0.09 K at zero magnetic field. In the superconducting state, 1/T1 in a high-quality sample with T(c) approximately 1.5 K exhibits a sharp decrease without the coherence peak, followed by a T3 behavior down to 0.15 K. This result is in marked contrast to the behavior observed below approximately 0.4 K in samples with lower T(c), where T1T is a constant. This behavior is demonstrated to be not intrinsic. We conclude that the gap structure in Sr2RuO4 is significantly anisotropic, consistent with line-node-like models.
