Abstract
We study fluctuations of the local energy cascade rate Φ_{ℓ} in turbulent flows at scales (ℓ) in the inertial range. According to the Kolmogorov refined similarity hypothesis (KRSH), relevant statistical properties of Φ_{ℓ} should depend on ε_{ℓ}, the viscous dissipation rate locally averaged over a sphere of size ℓ, rather than on the global average dissipation. However, the validity of KRSH applied to Φ_{ℓ} has not yet been tested from data. Conditional averages such as ⟨Φ_{ℓ}|ε_{ℓ}⟩ as well as of higher-order moments are measured from direct numerical simulations data, and results clearly adhere to the predictions from KRSH. Remarkably, the same is true when considering forward (Φ_{ℓ}>0) and inverse (Φ_{ℓ}<0) cascade events separately. Measured ratios of forward and inverse cascade probability densities conditioned on ε_{ℓ} also confirm the applicability of the KRSH to analysis of the fluctuation relation from nonequilibrium thermodynamics.

Abstract
Metasurfaces have garnered significant attention in recent years due to their substantial electromagnetic (EM) wave manipulation capabilities. However, most previously documented metasurfaces have been limited to controlling just a single EM wave mode, encompassing transmission, reflection, or absorption. Such limitations have impeded the broader applications of metasurfaces. To address this issue, this study introduces a multi-functional metasurface (MFM) in the utilization of Ge2Sb2Te5 (GST), vanadium dioxide (VO2), and graphene. This novel design enables real-time control over the transmission, absorption, and reflection of EM waves as necessitated through thermal control, allowing for seamless transitions from complete transmission to complete reflection. Furthermore, this configuration achieves extensive broadband perfect absorption, spanning up to 1.83 THz. The optical response mechanism of this MFM across distinct operational modes is meticulously analyzed through electric field distribution. Remarkably, this proposed MFM exhibits polarization insensitivity and maintains good optical performance even under conditions of wide-angle incidence. With the ability to switch to different operating modes according to the needs of different environments, the proposed MFM has the potential to be used in a wide range of scenarios, including radar stealth, wireless communications, and military search.

Obstructive sleep apnea affects the psychological and behavioural development of children-a case-control study. J Sleep Res 2024; 33:e13924. [PMID: 37194421 DOI: 10.1111/jsr.13924] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 12/07/2022] [Revised: 04/20/2023] [Accepted: 04/24/2023] [Indexed: 05/18/2023]
Abstract
This study aims to investigate the effects of obstructive sleep apnea on paediatric psychological and behavioural abnormalities. A total of 1086 paediatric patients with obstructive sleep apnea and 728 sample snoring controls were enrolled in the study. Patients with obstructive sleep apnea underwent bilateral tonsillectomy plus adenoidectomy or adenoidectomy alone. Repeated Autism Behaviour Checklist, Spence Children's Anxiety Scale, and Children's Depression Inventory were performed to assess the autism symptoms, anxiety level and depressive symptoms before and after surgery. The score of Autism Behaviour Checklist in preschool children with obstructive sleep apnea was higher than that in control. In school children with obstructive sleep apnea, the score of Spence Children's Anxiety Scale was also higher. School children with obstructive sleep apnea with depressive symptoms were significantly higher than that in control. The scores of Autism Behaviour Checklist, Spence Children's Anxiety Scale, and Children's Depression Inventory in the obstructive sleep apnea group after surgery were significantly lower than that before surgery. Our study showed that the score of Spence Children's Anxiety Scale and Children's Depression Inventory had a close correlation with the illness course and hypoxia duration. The Spence Children's Anxiety Scale and Children's Depression Inventory scores are also closely associated with the Autism Behaviour Checklist score. These results suggest that obstructive sleep apnea may have a significant impact on autism symptoms, anxiety levels and depressive symptoms in children. We found that the longer the duration of the obstructive sleep apnea course and hypoxia, the greater the impact on anxiety level and depressive symptoms. The suspected autism symptoms, anxiety level and depressive symptoms in children with obstructive sleep apnea were also significantly correlated. Thus, early detection and timely treatment may often reverse the psychological and behavioural abnormalities caused by obstructive sleep apnea.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Heart failure with impaired ejection fraction (HFIEF) represents the end-stage of most cardiac diseases, and is responsible for a high mortality rate. In order to identify patients at risk, numerous clinical and paraclinical prognostic factors have been proposed. The electrocardiogram (ECG), easy to perform and inexpensive, retains a powerful role in the prognostic evaluation of heart failure patients. The aim was to evaluate ECG signs associated with mortality in a retrospective cohort of patients with ICFEA. METHODOLOGY The study was observational and analytical based on retrospective data collected from patients benefiting from a primary hospitalization for ICFEA at the Abidjan Heart Institute from January 2018 to July 2020. RESULTS Of the 370 patients included, 197 had died by August 1, 2020, representing an overall mortality of 53%. Mortality progressed gradually up to one year, then remained unchanged up to 30 months. In multivariate Cox regression including ECG variables only, the presence of intra-ventricular conduction disorders (OR: 1.80; 95% CI [1.01-3.25]), microvoltage (OR: 1.82; 95% CI [1.05-16]), and pathological Q waves (OR: 1.70; 95% CI [1.02-2.83]), were significantly associated with overall mortality. When ECG variables and clinical, paraclinical and therapeutic demographic variables were included, only the presence of pathological Q waves (OR:1.74; 95% CI [1.01-3.01]) persisted as a risk factor for mortality. Hypertension and treatment of heart failure, in particular ACEI/ARII, beta-blockers and ARM, were protective factors. The presence of Q waves was associated with a significant reduction in survival, based on curves obtained using the Kaplan-Meier model. CONCLUSION ICFEA is responsible for high mortality, mainly in the year following the 1st hospitalization for cardiac decompensation. The presence of pathological Q waves is the only electrocardiographic sign that remains statistically associated with a poor prognosis, after adjustment.

Abstract
Ultra-broadband and efficient terahertz (THz) absorption is of paramount importance for the development of high-performance detectors. These detectors find applications in next-generation wireless communications, military radar systems, security detection, medical imaging, and various other domains. In this study, we present an ultra-wideband THz wave metasurface absorber (UTWMA) featuring a composite surface microstructure and a multilayer absorbing material (graphene). This UTWMA demonstrates remarkable capabilities by achieving highly efficient absorption levels, reaching 96.33%, within the 0.5-10 THz frequency range. To enhance the efficiency and precision of the design process, we have incorporated artificial neural networks, which enable rapid and accurate parameter selection. Moreover, we have conducted a comprehensive analysis of the absorption mechanism exhibited by the UTWMA at different frequencies. This analysis combines insights from the electric field distribution and effective medium theory. The findings presented in this paper are expected to catalyze further research in the domain of broadband THz technology, particularly in the context of metasurfaces and related fields. Additionally, this work paves the way for the development of compact, supercontinuous THz photovoltaic or photothermal electrical devices.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the clinical characteristics of laryngomalacia in Chinese children and explore the surgical efficacy and factors influencing severe laryngomalacia. METHODS Children (0-18 years) diagnosed with laryngomalacia in our hospital from January 2016 to January 2022 were enrolled in this study. Clinical data of patients, including general conditions, clinical symptoms, grading and classification, medical comorbidities, surgical efficacy, and the risk factors influencing severe laryngomalacia were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS A total of 1810 children were enrolled (male:female; 2.02:1), among which most were infants under 1 year (77.18%). Inspiratory laryngeal stridor (69.56%) was the most common symptom. Most patients had mild laryngomalacia (79.28%), with type IV laryngomalacia being the most common classification (52.27%). Congenital heart disease (37.85%) was the most common medical comorbidity. A total of 168 severe laryngomalacia cases were treated via supraglottoplasty with an effective rate of 83.93%. Notably, preterm birth (OR = 3.868, 95% CI 1.340 ~ 11.168), low birth weight (OR = 4.517, 95% CI 1.477 ~ 13.819) and medical comorbidities (OR = 7.219, 95% CI 2.534 ~ 20.564) were independent risk factors for poor prognosis (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Laryngomalacia is common among infants under the age of one, and it is mostly characterized by inspiratory laryngeal stridor with various medical comorbidity. Supraglottoplasty is the first treatment choice for severe laryngomalacia cases with high success rates. However, premature delivery, low birth weight, and medical comorbidities significantly affect the efficacy of surgery.

Abstract
Background Many epidemiological studies have demonstrated the short-term effects of air pollution on acute otitis media (AOM) in children, but few studies have explored the association between AOM and air pollution in Chinese children. This study aimed to analyze the effects of air pollution on emergency visits for AOM among children through a time-stratified case-crossover design in Chongqing, China. Methods The outpatient medical records of children from nine main urban districts who presented with AOM between December 22, 2018 and December 21, 2021 were collected from the Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. Data for air pollution variables, including the air quality index (AQI), particulate matter ≤ 10 μm (PM10), PM2.5, SO2, CO, NO2 and O3 from 17 monitoring sites were collected. Data for meteorological factors as confounding variables also were collected. Conditional logistic regression was used to analyze the data with single-pollutant models, multi-pollutant models, and stratified analyses. Results Increases in AQI, PM10, PM2.5, SO2, CO and NO2 were positively associated with emergency visits for AOM among children in single-pollutant models and stratified analyses. Increases in PM10, SO2, CO and NO2 were positively associated with emergency visits for AOM among children in multi-pollutant models. NO2 had the most statistically significant OR values in all models, whereas significant effects of O3 were observed only in seasonal stratification. In single-pollutant models, we found that the best lag periods were lag 0-7 for air pollution variables except for O3 and the largest OR values were 1.185 (95%CI: 1.129-1.245) for SO2 in single-pollutant models. In stratified analyses, there were no difference between groups in these statistically significant OR values through gender and age stratification, while the differences between seasons in these OR values of PM10, SO2, CO, NO2 and O3 were statistically significant. Children aged 0 years and 3-5 years represented the most susceptible population, and among the seasons, susceptibility was greater during Winter and Spring. Conclusion Short-term exposure to air pollution can increase emergency visits for AOM among children in Chongqing, China.

Abstract
Objective: To understand the incubation periods of infections of Omicron variants BA.2 and BF.7 in two COVID-19 epidemics and related factors in Beijing and provide basic parameters for the establishment of 2019-nCoV dynamic transmission model. Methods: The COVID-19 cases with specific exposure time and onset time in the Omicron variant BA.2 infection epidemic in April 2022 and in the Omicron variant BF.7 infection epidemic in October 2022 in Beijing were included in the analysis. The rank-sum test was conducted to estimate the differences in the incubation period between two types of infections. The incubation period distribution of the Omicron variant infection was fitted by using Weibull, Gamma and lognormal distributions. Multivariate analysis of variance was conducted to assess the effects of age, sex, variant type and vaccination status on the incubation periods. Results: A total of 64 cases of variant BA.2 infection and 58 cases of variant BF.7 infection were included. The M(Q1,Q3) of the incubation period was 3.00 (3.00, 4.00) days for BA.2 infection and 3.00 (2.00, 3.25) days for BF.7 infection. The lognormal distribution was the best fit. Multivariate analysis of variance showed that there were some differences in the incubation periods between two types of infections of Omicron variants, and the incubation period of variant BF.7 infection was shorter than that of variant BA.2 infection. Conclusion: Omicron variant BF.7 infection had shorter incubation period compared with Omicron variant BA.2 infection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic infection with Clonorchis sinensis can cause hepatobiliary fibrosis and even lead to hepatobiliary carcinoma. Epstein-Barr virus-induced gene 3 protein (EBI3) is a subunit of interleukin 35, which can regulate inflammatory response and the occurrence of fibrotic diseases. Previous studies have reported that the expression of EBI3 in the serum of patients with liver cirrhosis is reduced. The present study aims to investigate the biological effects of EBI3 on liver fibrosis caused by C. sinensis and the underlying molecular mechanisms. METHODS We first established a mouse model of liver fibrosis induced by C. sinensis infection and then measured the serum expression of EBI3 during the inflammatory and fibrotic phase. GO (Gene Ontology) and KEGG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes) pathway analyses were performed to investigate the potential role of EBI3 in liver fibrosis by regulating the extracellular matrix structural constituent and collagen catabolic process. Recombinant protein EBI3 (rEBI3) was added to hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) in vitro with C. sinensis antigen to explore its function. Finally, the therapeutic effect of rEBI3 was verified by intravenous injection into C. sinensis-infected mice. RESULTS The results showed that the serum expression of EBI3 increased in the inflammatory response phase but decreased in the fibrotic phase. The excretory-secretory products of C. sinensis (Cs.ESP) were able to stimulate HSC activation, while rEBI3 reduced the activation of HSCs induced by Cs.ESP. Also, the protein expression of gp130 and downstream protein expressions of JAK1, p-JAK1, STAT3 and p-STAT3 in HSCs were increased after rEBI3 incubation. Finally, intravenously injected rEBI3 inhibited hepatic epithelial-mesenchymal transition in C. sinensis-infected mice by inhibiting HSC activation and reducing liver injury. CONCLUSION This study confirms that rEBI3 can attenuate C. sinensis-induced liver fibrosis by inhibiting HSC activation and may be one of the potential treatments for liver fibrosis.

Cavitation Erosion Prevention Using Laser Shock Peening: Development of a Predictive Evaluation System. MATERIALS (BASEL, SWITZERLAND) 2023; 16:5096. Abstract
Marine flow-passing components are susceptible to cavitation erosion (CE), and researchers have worked to find ways to reduce its effects. Laser Shock Peening (LSP), a material strengthening method, has been widely used in aerospace and other cutting-edge fields. In recent years, LSP has been used in cavitation resistance research. However, the current LSP research does not realize a comprehensive predictive assessment of the material's CE resistance. This paper uses m stresses to develop a comprehensive set of strengthening effect prediction models from LSP to CE using finite element analysis (FEA). Results show that the LSP-1 sample (4 mm spot, 10 J energy) introduced a compressive residual stress value of 37.4 MPa, better than that of 16.6 MPa with the LSP-2 sample (6 mm spot, 10 J energy), which is generally consistent with the experimental findings; the model predicts a 16.35% improvement in the resistance of LSP-1 sample to water jet damage, which is comparable to the experimental result of 14.02%; additionally, interactions between micro-jets do not predominate the cavitation erosion process and the final CE effect of the material is mainly due to the accumulation of jet-material interaction.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Tibetan group is one of the oldest Sino-Tibetan ethnic groups. The origin, migration as well as the genetic background of Tibetans have become the research hotspots in the field of forensic genetics. The use of ancestry informative markers (AIMs) allows the investigation of the genetic background of the Gannan Tibetan group. METHODS In this study, the 165 ancestry informative single nucleotide polymorphism (AI-SNP) loci included in the Precision ID Ancestry Panel were used to genotype 101 Gannan Tibetans using the Ion S5 XL system. The forensic statistical parameters of 165 AI-SNP in the Gannan Tibetan group were calculated. Population genetic analyses including Nei's genetic distances, phylogenetic analyses, pairwise fixation index, principal component analyses and population ancestry composition analyses were also conducted to evaluate the genetic relationships between the Gannan Tibetan group and other reference populations. RESULTS Forensic parameters of the 165 AI-SNP loci indicated that not all of the SNPs showed high genetic polymorphisms in the Gannan Tibetan group. Population genetic analyses indicated that the Gannan Tibetan group had close genetic affinities with East Asian populations, especially with the groups residing in its neighboring geographical regions. CONCLUSIONS The 165 AI-SNP loci in the Precision ID Ancestry Panel showed high ancestral prediction powers for different continental populations. When trying to predict the ancestral information of East Asian subpopulations using this panel, the prediction results are not particularly accurate. The 165 AI-SNP loci showed varying degrees of genetic polymorphisms in the Gannan Tibetan group, and the combined use of these loci could be an effective tool in the forensic individual identification and parentage testing of this group. The Gannan Tibetan group has close genetic affinities with East Asian populations compared with other reference populations, especially tighter genetic relationships with the groups residing in its neighboring geographical regions.

Abstract
Although the design of graphene-based tunable broadband terahertz (THz) absorbers has attracted much attention, improving the functionality of the absorbers to adapt to different scenarios is still worth studying. This paper presents an innovative design of a quad-functional metasurface absorber (QMA) in the THz region, which can switch the absorption frequency/band by means of dual voltage/thermal manipulation. By electrically manipulating the chemical potential of graphene, the QMA can switch freely between the narrowband absorption mode ("NAM") and the broadband absorption mode ("BAM"), while thermally manipulating the phase transition of VO2 allows switching between the low-frequency absorption mode ("LAM") and the high-frequency absorption mode ("HAM"). Detailed mechanistic analysis shows that the "NAM" and "BAM" are due to the switching of the fundamental and second order graphene surface plasmon polariton (SPP) resonances, respectively, and the switching between "LAM" and "HAM" is due to the phase transformation of VO2. Furthermore, the QMA is polarization insensitive in all absorption modes and maintains excellent absorption performance at large angular incidence of TE- and TM-polarized waves. All the results indicate that the proposed QMA has great potential for stealth, sensing, switching, and filtering applications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular events. The cardiovascular risk assessment is performed using specific algorithms, particularly SCORE2 and SCORE2-OP developed by the European Society of Cardiology. PATIENTS AND METHODS Prospective cohort study from February 1, 2022, to July 31, 2022, enrolling 410 hypertensive patients. Epidemiological, paraclinical, therapeutic, and follow-up data were analyzed. Cardiovascular risk stratification of patients was performed using SCORE2 and SCORE2-OP algorithms. We compared the initial and 6-month cardiovascular risks. RESULTS The mean age of the patients was 60.88 ± 12.35 years with a female predominance (sex ratio = 0.66). In addition to hypertension, dyslipidemia (45.4%) was the most frequently associated risk factor. A high proportion of patients were classified as high (48.6%) and very high (46.3%) cardiovascular risk, with a significant difference between men and women. Reassessment of cardiovascular risk after 6 months of treatment found significant differences compared with the initial cardiovascular risk (p < 0.001). The rate of patients at low to moderate cardiovascular risk (49.5%) increased substantially, whereas the proportion of patients at very high risk decreased (6.8%). CONCLUSION Our study conducted at Abidjan Heart Institute in a young population of patients with hypertension revealed a severe cardiovascular risk profile. Almost half of the patients are classified at very high cardiovascular risk, based on the SCORE2 and SCORE2-OP. The widespread use of these new algorithms for risk stratification should lead to more aggressive management and prevention strategies for hypertension and associated risk factors.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To characterize the correlative factors for types of tracheobronchial foreign bodies (TFBs) encountered in children. METHODS All included patients diagnosed with TFB underwent rigid bronchoscopy as the first surgery in the Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. The data of 1026 patients aged 0-18 years were retrospectively collected between February 2019 and January 2022. RESULTS About 94.44% of the children with TFB had organic FBs, among which, peanuts were the most common FBs, followed by melon seeds and walnuts. The most common inorganic FBs included pen points or caps, plastic toys, and plastic papers. As compared to the children with organic FBs, those with inorganic FBs consisted of a higher proportion of children aged ≥3 years old, a time before surgery of >7 days, dyspnea, FBs size of >10 mm, longer operation time, more than two operation procedures, and atelectasis. On the other hand, the proportion of children with aspiration history, cough, and obstructive emphysema in the inorganic FB group was lower as compared to the organic FBs (P< .05). CONCLUSIONS The related factors related to the patient's characteristics, symptoms, operation situations, and preoperative complications can be predicted based on the identification of FB type.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To characterize the risk factors for difficult removal of tracheobronchial foreign body (FB) by rigid bronchoscopy in children. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed clinical data of 1026 pediatric patients (age: 0-18 years) diagnosed with tracheobronchial FB between September 2018 and August 2021. All patients underwent rigid bronchoscopy as the first intervention at our hospital. RESULTS Children aged 1-3 years accounted for 83.7% cases in our cohort. The most common symptoms were cough and wheeze. FBs were more frequently found in the right bronchus, and trachea FBs accounted for only 8.19% cases. The success rate of rigid bronchoscopy in a single attempt was 97.27%. 12.18% of the cases were defined as difficult removal of FB. On univariate analysis, age, CT findings (pneumonia), type of FB, diameter of FB, FB location, granulation tissue formation, and the seniority of the surgeon were identified as risk factors for difficult removal of tracheobronchial FBs. On multivariate analysis, age ≥3 years, FB diameter ≥10 mm, FBs located in left bronchus, multiple FBs, granulation tissue, and the seniority of surgeon (<3 years, ≥5 years) were independent risk factors for difficult removal. CONCLUSIONS Age, FB diameter, location of FB, granulation tissue formation, and the seniority of the surgeon were risk factors for difficult removal of FBs by rigid bronchoscopy.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
A new classification of type 1 and 2 myocardial infarction (MI) derived from the fourth universal definition of MI (UDMI) has been recently proposed, based on pathophysiology of coronary artery disease (CAD),. We assessed the impact of this new MI categorization on epidemiology and outcomes.
Methods
Retrospective study including all consecutive patients hospitalized for an acute MI in a multicenter database (RICO). MI was defined according to current UDMI. Rates and outcomes of T1MI and T2MI were addressed according to the new classification.
Results
Among the 4573 patients included on our study, 3710 patients (81.1%) were initially diagnosed with T1M1 and 863 (18.9%) with T2MI. After reclassification, 96 T2MI patients were moved into the T1MI category. Out of the remaining 767 patients with T2MI, 567 underwent coronary angiography, and were adjudicated as type 2A MI (68.6%) with obstructive CAD, and type 2B MI (31.4%) without obstructive CAD.
When compared with T1MI and T2BMI, T2AMI patients had worse in-hospital outcomes, including heart failure (p<0.001), recurrent infarction (p<0.048) and mechanical complications such as mitral insufficiency (p=0.001). The 3 groups (T1AMI, T2AMI and T2BMI) had similar all-cause and cardiovascular death rates, with a trend for a higher all-cause mortality in T2AMI patients.
Kaplan-Meier one-year survival curves showed higher all-cause and cardiovascular causes mortality in T2AMI patients compared to T1MI and T2BMI (p<0.001). In multivariate Cox regression, type of MI was independent predictor of death.
Conclusion
Our large observational multicenter study shows major disparities in mortality according to type of MI and support the relevance of the new MI classification to improve risk classification. Our findings may will help identifying specific phenotypes and considering personalized diagnostic and management strategies.

Abstract
We reported that in a 29-year-old male patient with hyperthyroidism, bilateral breast swelling appeared in three days after starting methimazole and gradually aggravated. Several days later, a small amount of transparent liquid could be squeezed out from bilateral mammary glands. Breast ultrasound confirmed gynaecomastia. The level of testosterone, estradiol and luteinizing hormone increased. After the patient continued taking methimazole for a while, gynaecomastia relieved. Testosterone, luteinizing hormone and thyroid functions restored to normal. The possible mechanisms included increased levels of serum total cholesterol and relatively decreased T3 after initiating methimazole.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To assess the evolution of the epidemiology and management of patients hospitalized to Abidjan Heart Institute for acute coronary syndrome (ACS). METHODS Cross-sectional study comparing two periods: from January 2002 to December 2009 (period 1) and from January 2010 to December 2016 (period 2), including all patients aged 18 years old, admitted to Intensive Care Unit of Abidjan Heart Institute for ACS. RESULTS One thousand eleven (1011) patients were included among the 6784 patients admitted to Intensive Care Unit of Abidjan Heart Institute for a cardiovascular disease. The overall prevalence of ACS was 14.9%. The prevalence in period 2 was significantly higher than in period 1 (22.6% and 7.3% respectively, p < 0.001). Diabetes (33.5%, p < 0.001) significantly, and smoking (30.7%, p = 0.30) had the largest rises from period 1 to period 2. ST-segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction was the main clinical presentation during both periods. The median time to treatment (p = 0.46) and length of hospital stay (p <0.001) decreased during period 2. Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) was performed in 173 patients (22.6%) during the period 2 and 42 patients (5.5%) underwent primary PCI. The rate of fibrinolysis increased significantly between the two periods (9.5%, p <0.001). In-hospital death increased during period 2 (10.4%, p = 0.07). CONCLUSION The burden of ACS and its related mortality have risen alarmingly past years in Côte d'Ivoire. Healthcare policies should help improve the management and outcomes of patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Zinc finger C3H1 domain-containing protein (ZFC3H1) is differentially expressed between primary tumor and the normal in most cancers. Additionally, a recent study has suggested that ZFC3H1 could serve as a novel marker for the prognosis of prostate adenocarcinoma (PRAD). However, the relationship between ZFC3H1 expression and the prognostic values in most tumors remains unclear. Our study is mainly for exploring the prognosis of ZFC3H1 in pan-cancer and for further discovering a potential therapeutics target. METHODS Based on the clinical big data, we performed a pan-cancer analysis of ZFC3H1, including gene expression, survival prognosis, genetic alteration, protein phosphorylation, immune infiltration and enrichment analysis. In addition, Real-Time PCR and Western Blot were used to further confirm the role of ZFC3H1 in the colorectal cancer. RESULTS We found that ZFC3H1 expression was connected with the prognosis of multiple malignant tumors. Furthermore, we also observed that ZFC3H1 was highly expressed in colorectal cancer through Real-Time PCR and Western Blot. The primary tumors presented higher phosphorylation level of the S655 site in lung adenocarcinoma, colon adenocarcinoma and uterine corpus endometrial carcinoma. ZFC3H1 expression was positively correlated with the immune infiltration of Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in some tumors, such as liver hepatocellular carcinoma. And RNA surveillance pathways may be closely associated with the occurrence of tumors. CONCLUSIONS Our study first reveals that ZFC3H1 could serve as a novel prognostic biomarker of pan-cancer, especially colorectal cancer.

Abstract
The MPS technology has expanded the potential applications of DNA markers and increased the discrimination power of the targeted loci by taking variations in their flanking regions into consideration. Here, a collection of nuclear and extranuclear DNA markers (totally six kinds of nuclear genetic markers and mtDNA hypervariable region variations) were comprehensively and systematically assessed for polymorphism detections, further employed to dissect the population backgrounds in the Yugu ethnic group from Gansu province (Yugu) and Han population from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (NMH) of China. The elevated efficiencies of the marker set in separating full sibling and challenging half sibling determination cases in parentage tests (iiSNPs), as well as predicting ancestry origins of unknown individuals from at least four continental populations (aiSNPs) and providing informative characteristic-related clues for Chinese populations (piSNPs) are highlighted in the present study. To sum up, different sets of DNA markers revealed sufficient effciencies to serve as promising tools in forensic applications. Genetic insights from the perspectives of autosomal DNA, Y chromosomal DNA, and mtDNA variations yielded that the Yugu ethnic group was genetically close related to the Han populations of the northern region. But we admit that more reference populations (like Mongolian, Tibetan, Hui, and Tu) should be incorporated to gain a refined genetic background landscape of the Yugu group in future studies.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and sexual development in Chinese children. Methods: A nationwide multicenter and population-based large cross-sectional study was conducted in 13 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities of China from January 2017 to December 2018. Data on sex, age, height, weight were collected, BMI was calculated and sexual characteristics were analyzed. The subjects were divided into four groups based on age, including ages 3-<6 years, 6-<10 years, 10-<15 years and 15-<18 years. Multiple Logistic regression models were used for evaluating the associations of BMI with sexual development in children. Dichotomous Logistic regression was used to compare the differences in the distribution of early and non-early puberty among normal weight, overweight and obese groups. Curves were drawn to analyze the relationship between the percentage of early puberty and BMI distribution in girls and boys at different Tanner stages. Results: A total of 208 179 healthy children (96 471 girls and 111 708 boys) were enrolled in this study. The OR values of B2, B3 and B4+ in overweight girls were 1.72 (95%CI: 1.56-1.89), 3.19 (95%CI: 2.86-3.57), 7.14 (95%CI: 6.33-8.05) and in obese girls were 2.05 (95%CI: 1.88-2.24), 4.98 (95%CI: 4.49-5.53), 11.21 (95%CI: 9.98-12.59), respectively; while the OR values of G2, G3, G4+ in overweight boys were 1.27 (95%CI: 1.17-1.38), 1.52 (95%CI: 1.36-1.70), 1.88 (95%CI: 1.66-2.14) and in obese boys were 1.27 (95%CI: 1.17-1.37), 1.59 (95%CI: 1.43-1.78), and 1.93 (95%CI: 1.70-2.18) (compared with normal weight Tanner 1 group, all P<0.01). Analysis in different age groups found that OR values of obese girls at B2 stage and boys at G2 stage were 2.02 (95%CI: 1.06-3.86) and 2.32 (95%CI:1.05-5.12) in preschool children aged 3-<6 years, respectively (both P<0.05). And in the age group of 6-10 years, overweight girls had a 5.45-fold risk and obese girls had a 12.54-fold risk of B3 stage compared to girls with normal BMI. Compared with normal weight children, the risk of early puberty was 2.67 times higher in overweight girls, 3.63 times higher in obese girls, and 1.22 times higher in overweight boys, 1.35 times higher in obese boys (all P<0.01). Among the children at each Tanner stages, the percentage of early puberty increased with the increase of BMI, from 5.7% (80/1 397), 16.1% (48/299), 13.8% (27/195) to 25.7% (198/769), 65.1% (209/321), 65.4% (157/240) in girls aged 8-<9, 10-<11 and 11-<12 years, and 6.6% (34/513), 18.7% (51/273), 21.6% (57/264) to 13.3% (96/722), 46.4% (140/302), 47.5% (105/221) in boys aged 9-<10, 12-<13 and 13-<14 years, respectively. Conclusions: BMI is positively correlated with sexual development in both Chinese boys and girls, and the correlation is stronger in girls. Obesity is a risk factor for precocious puberty in preschool children aged 3-<6 years, and 6-<10 years of age is a high risk period for early development in obese girls.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The literature on orofacial myofunctional therapy (OMT) in children and adults with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) was systematically reviewed to investigate the effects of OMT on patients with OSA by age and disease severity to verify the effect of OMT on OSA. DATA SOURCES All the comparative literature was retrieved from the PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane libraries. METHOD We searched the articles published up to February 12, 2022 and followed the preferred reporting project for systematic review and meta-analysis of reports. The quality of the studies was evaluated using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. RESULTS Of the primary indicators for evaluating OSA, 13 studies reported on the apnea index (AHI), showing a decrease in the mean standard deviation of AHI from before OMT to after OMT (P < 0.00001). The lowest oxygen saturation was reported in nine studies, and the mean standard deviation of the lowest oxygen saturation increased from before to after OMT (P = 0.0009). Ten studies reported the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), indicating that the mean standard deviation of the ESS decreased from before to after OMT (P < 0.00001). The subgroup analysis showed that the AHI scores indicating mild and moderate OSA were significantly reduced, and the AHI scores indicating severe OSA also decreased, but this was not statistically significant. The lowest oxygen saturation increased obviously in patients with both mild and moderate and severe OSA. Of the secondary indicators of OSA, there was a statistically significant improvement in snoring intensity (P = 0.0002). CONCLUSION Oral and facial muscular function therapy can be used as a simple and non-invasive new technique to improve the AHI, minimum oxygen saturation, ESS, and snoring intensity in patients with mild and moderate OSA and the lowest oxygen saturation in patients with severe OSA.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the clinical characteristics of tracheobronchial foreign body (FB) cases in a pediatric Chinese population. METHODS The clinical data of pediatric patients aged 0-18 years old diagnosed with a tracheobronchial FB in the Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University between September 2018 and August 2021 were analyzed retrospectively. RESULTS Among 1,328 included cases, 92.09% of patients were <3 years old, the male to female ratio was 1.86:1. The prevalence of tracheobronchial FB was similar between patients living in rural and urban areas and tracheobronchial FBs were more common in winter. The most common presenting symptoms were cough and wheezing. The most common CT findings was local obstruction or tracheobronchial narrowing, followed by obstructive emphysema of lung and pneumonia. The 11.3% of cases that did not report FB aspiration on admission had a longer time to hospital admission and longer hospitalization time than cases reporting FB aspiration (P < 0.05). The most common FB type was nuts (81.17%). FBs were more frequently located in the right bronchus, and 64 (4.82%) cases involved multiple FBs. FBs were expelled by coughing in only 4.07% of cases. For the other cases, FB removal by first bronchoscopy in our hospital was successful and complete in 96.86% of cases. 1.51% of patients had hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) and the location of FBs was a possible risk factor for HIE (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Tracheobronchial FBs occurred most commonly in children <3 years old. If asphyxia occurs in children which FBs aspirated, emergency treatment is needed to reduce the occurrence of HIE. Rigid bronchoscopy remains the first-line method for FB removal in children.

Abstract
hine Muscat, with its excellent quality and unique Muscat aroma, is emerging as one of the most profitable table grape cultivars in Asia. However, in-depth analysis of the cultivar’s aroma profile before berries are harvest-ready is lacking. The aroma components and their concentrations undergo substantial changes during berry ripening, which provides an opportunity for producing some juice/wine products with special flavour. In this study, the evolution of free and bound aroma compounds in Shine Muscat grapes was analysed from EL-35 to EL-38. The main aroma attributes of harvest-ready berries were: ‘green’, ‘sweet’, ‘floral’ and ‘fruity’. The headspace SPME-GC-MS analysis revealed that alcohols were the most abundant free and bound compounds in Shine Muscat. Furthermore, the free forms of hexanal, β-damascenone, and (E, Z)-2,6-nonadienal determined the aroma characteristics of the grapes directly, while the bound forms of β-damascenone, (E, Z)-2,6-nonadienal, and 2-hexanol determined the aroma of Shine Muscat that cannot to be smelled directly. Taking all indicators together, we believe that picking Shine Muscat grapes at EL-37 (when a minimum TSS of 17% has been reached) maintains its fine aroma characteristics. These results lay the foundation for the further development, utilisation and study of the aroma characteristics of Shine Muscat grapes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the clinical features and factors affecting the prognosis of children with profound sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL). METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 147 children with profound SSNHL who received inpatient treatment at our department from January 2016 to January 2021. All children were administered with systemic steroid therapy and/or intratympanic steroid (ITS) treatment for 2 weeks. Statistical analyses were performed for the clinical features, treatment effectiveness, and factors affecting the prognosis using SPSS 23.0. RESULTS The median age of the study population was 8 (6-10) years. The median treatment onset time was 8 (4-20) days. The most common concomitant symptom was tinnitus (45.58%). Laboratory findings showed that the percentages of children with abnormal leukocytes was 25.85%, abnormal platelet counts was 17.01%, abnormal cytomegalovirus IgG antibodies was 36.73% and abnormal Epstein-Barr (EB) virus IgG antibodies was 41.50%. The overall recovery rate of the treatment was 20.04%. The univariate analysis showed that age, treatment onset time, tinnitus, and ITS treatment were associated with the prognosis (p < 0.05). Regarding laboratory findings, the neutrophil count, lymphocyte count, and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio differed significantly between the effective and invalid treatment effect groups (p < 0.05). The multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that treatment onset time [odds ratio (OR) = 0.936, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.881-0.994] and ITS treatment (OR = 0.174, 95% CI: 0.044-0.0687) correlated with hearing recovery (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION In this study, the earlier the treatment start time of children with profound SSNHL, the better was the prognosis. Further, ITS could be an effective treatment option.

Exosomal miR-500 Derived From Lipopolysaccharide-Treated Macrophage Accelerates Liver Fibrosis by Suppressing MFN2. Front Cell Dev Biol 2021; 9:716209. Abstract
Liver fibrosis is an outcome of chronic hepatic injury, which can eventually result in cirrhosis, liver failure, and even liver cancer. The activation of hepatic stellate cell (HSC) is a prominent driver of liver fibrosis. Recently, it has been found that the crosstalk between HSCs and immune cells, including hepatic macrophages, plays an important role in the initiation and development of liver fibrosis. As a vital vehicle of intercellular communication, exosomes transfer specific cargos into HSCs from macrophages. Here, we show that exosomes derived from lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-treated macrophages has higher expression level of miR-500. And overexpression or inhibition of miR-500 in macrophage exosomes could promote or suppress HSC proliferation and activation. Treatment of exosomes with miR-500 overexpression can accelerate liver fibrosis in CCl4-induced liver fibrosis mouse model. miR-500 promotes HSC activation and liver fibrosis via suppressing MFN2. Moreover, miR-500 in serum exosomes could be a biomarker for liver fibrosis. Taken together, exosomal miR-500 derived from LPS-activated macrophages promotes HSC proliferation and activation by targeting MFN2 in liver fibrosis.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF) often coexist and are closely intertwined, each condition worsening the other. The temporal relationships between these two disorders have not yet been fully explored. We assessed, on a nationwide scale, the prognosis of patients hospitalized with HF and AF, based on the timing of AF and HF development.
Methods
From the administrative database covering hospital care for the whole French population, we identified 1,349,638 patients diagnosed with both AF and HF between 2010 and 2018: 956,086 of these AF patients developed HF first (prevalent HF) and 393,552 developed HF after AF (incident HF). The outcome analysis (all-cause death, cardiovascular [CV] death, ischemic stroke or hospitalization for HF) was performed with follow-up starting at the time of last event between AF or HF in the whole cohort and in 427,848 propensity-score-matched patients (213,924 with incident HF and 213,924 with prevalent HF).
Results
During follow-up (mean follow-up 1.6±1.9 year), matched patients with prevalent HF had a higher risk of all-cause death (21.6 vs 19.2%/year), CV death (7.6 vs 6.5%/year) as well as non-cardiovascular death (13.9 vs 12.7%/year) than those with incident HF. The risk for ischemic stroke was lower in the prevalent HF group (1.2 vs 2.4%/year).
Conclusion
In patients hospitalized with both AF and HF, we identified two distinct clinical entities based on the chronological sequence of the two disorders. Patients in whom HF preceded AF (prevalent HF) had higher mortality and higher risk of rehospitalization for HF.

Abstract
Objective We report in this work the efficacy of highly active antiretrovirals (ARVs) alone in the treatment of diffuse infiltrative lymphocytosis syndrome (DILS) without the use of corticosteroids, which appears risky in patients living with HIV. Observation This is a 60-year-old HIV-positive patient, discovered during the etiological workup of renal failure, which revealed a non-nephrotic glomerular profile. The renal biopsy found an interstitial infiltrate of CD8 suggestive of DILS. Management consisted in starting ARV treatment alone (lamuvidine, abacavir and raltegravir) without associated corticosteroid therapy. The clinical evolution under treatment was marked by a recovery of the renal function with a creatininemia at 99 μmol/l, a regression of the proteinuria, a CD4 rate at 293/mm3 and an HIV viral load at 533.3 copies or 1.6 log in the space of 3 months. Conclusion DILS is a diffuse systemic disease in HIV patients who are usually under poor virological control. In view of the strong immunosuppression and the absence of other infiltrative diseases, it appeared to us to be risky and unjustified to add a corticosteroid therapy.

Abstract
Abstract
Study question
Does follicular extracellular vesicles of women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS-EVs) interfere with the quality of oocytes?
Summary answer
PCOS-EVs induced oxidative stress in the oocytes and inhibited oocyte maturation by increasing the abnormal mitochondria distribution and abnormal spindle rates.
What is known already
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age, with a prevalence up to 10%. Women with PCOS are characterized by a clustering of features, including hyperandrogenism, polycystic ovarian morphology, and notably, anovulation. Although international guidelines recommend assisted reproduction techniques to be an effective resort for PCOS patients to conceive. However, even after overcoming ovulatory dysfunction via ovulation induction, the pregnancy outcomes of patients with PCOS were far from satisfying with lower fertilization, cleavage, and implantation rates, implicating that theoocyte quality of these patients are affected. Whereas the mechanisms have not been elucidated yet.
Study design, size, duration
Follicular fluid of PCOS patients (n = 10) and healthy controls (n = 10) were collected and used for extracellular vesicles (EVs) isolation via ultracentrifugation. Germinal vesicle (GV) oocytes collected from female ICR mice were cocultured with RIF-EVs or FER-EVs, respectively, and PBS served as a blank control. GV breakdown (GVBD) rate and maturation rate were calculated at two-hour and fourteen-hour of co-culture, respectively. Besides, oocyte mitochondria distribution, meiosis spindle morphology, and oxidative status were assessed in different groups.
Participants/materials, setting, methods
EVs were determined by western blotting, nanoparticle tracking analysis, and transmission electron microscopy. Fluorescence labeled EVs were used to visualize internalization by oocytes. Oocytes mitochondria and mitosis spindles were stained with fluorescence, and abnormal mitochondria rate or abnormal spindle rate was calculated. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) level was detected in the differently treated oocytes. Moreover, the expression of CAT, GSS, and SOD was determined in the oocytes using quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction.
Main results and the role of chance
Both PCOS-EVs and CTRL-EVs are bilayered vesicles, ranging from 100 to 150 nm, and enriched in Alix, TSG101, and CD9. EVs could be internalized by oocytes within one hour. After coculture, the GVBD rate was similar among the three groups; whereas the maturation rate was significantly decreased in the PCOS-EV group compared with CTRL-EV group or PBS group. In addition, the abnormal mitochondria distribution rate or abnormal spindle rate were significantly increased in the PCOS-EV group compared with PBS or CTRL-EV group. The ROS level was increased in the PCOS-EV group compared with CTRL-EV group, and the expression of CAT, GSS, and SOD was increased in the PCOS-EV-treated oocytes.
Limitations, reasons for caution
Our study did not identify the contents of PCOS-EVs and CTRL-EVs, and the molecular mechanisms of dysregulations induced by PCOS-EVs need further researches to investigate.
Wider implications of the findings: This work confirmed that EV-conducted cellular communication played an important role in oocyte development in women with PCOS. The dysregulation of oocytes induced by PCOS-EVs might be related to the poor oocyte quality of women with PCOS, which may provide a novel target to improve pregnancy outcomes of these patients.

Abstract
A sighting system based on the Galileo telescope structure generally suffers from the lack of a reticle, which poses great challenges to target aiming. In this work, a hybrid Galilean sighting system integrated with an augmented reality (AR) component is proposed, which produces an image of the reticle to serve as a reticle. The depth of the reticle can be adjusted flexibly to superpose with the image of the observed object. The designed system features a fourfold magnification, a large modulation transfer function (MTF)>0.3 at 40 lp/mm, and a small distortion less than 0.3% in the full field of view. The superb imaging performance combined with the targeting function of the AR reticle renders the proposed design a powerful tool in the applications of target tracking.

Abstract
This investigation studied the effect of concentrated growth factor and nanofat on aging skin of nude mice induced by D-galactose. BALB/c mice were randomly divided into five groups: 5 mice in the control group were fed normally without any intervention, 9 mice were treated with concentrated growth factor (CGF), 9 mice were treated with nanofat (NF), 9 mice were treated with CGF+NF, and 9 mice in the model group (no treatment after subcutaneous injection of D-galactose). Relevant indicators are measured and recorded. In skin and serum, SOD and GSH content in the model group were significantly lower than those in other groups (P<0.05), and the MDA of the three treatment groups was significantly lower than that of the model group (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the contents of total collagen, type I collagen and type III collagen in the NF group and model group were decreased in different degrees (P<0.05); the contents of elastin and elastic fiber in the skin of nude mice in the model group and NF group were significantly decreased. Compared with the model group, he number of CD31 and VEGF in the treatment group was significantly increased (P<0.01); the skin AGE content of three treatment groups was significantly lower (P<0.05). These findings suggest that concentrated growth factor and nanofat may have a significant effect on delaying aging skin induced by D-galactose in nude mice.

Characterizing the air pollution of the cities in the closure of corona virus disease 2019 in China. INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY : IJEST 2021; 18:2053-2062. Abstract
With the rapid development of industrialization and urbanization in China, energy and vehicle consumption have continued to increase in recent years and air pollution has become serious. In early 2020, Corona Virus Disease 2019 broke out in Wuhan, China. From January 29, 2020, several sources of the air pollution almost all stopped working, including gasoline burning vehicles, dust producing building sites, coal-fired factories, etc. Five indicators of the atmospheric environmental quality were observed from December 19, 2019 to April 30, 2020 in nine cities and 1-h average concentrations, 24-h average concentrations and Air Quality Index were assessed. The 1-h average concentrations of the nitrogen dioxide, the ozone and the sulfur dioxide showed obvious difference though the closure did not change the sequence of the five pollutants' concentrations in the air at diverse sampling moments. The changing of the 24-h average concentrations of the five pollutants indicated the amount of pollutants in the air were greatly affected by human activities. The nitrogen dioxide, the sulfur dioxide and the particulate matters decreased obviously in the closure. The air in the metropolis and the south-east cities were relatively clean and the pollutants' concentrations decreased slightly during the closure period. The northern and the heavy industrial cities showed significant drop on air pollution indicators and the air quality of the two city groups could be greatly improved if some effective measures could be taken of environmental management and regional development.

Abstract
The deep population history of East Asia remains poorly understood owing to a lack of ancient DNA data and sparse sampling of present-day people1,2. Here we report genome-wide data from 166 East Asian individuals dating to between 6000 BC and AD 1000 and 46 present-day groups. Hunter-gatherers from Japan, the Amur River Basin, and people of Neolithic and Iron Age Taiwan and the Tibetan Plateau are linked by a deeply splitting lineage that probably reflects a coastal migration during the Late Pleistocene epoch. We also follow expansions during the subsequent Holocene epoch from four regions. First, hunter-gatherers from Mongolia and the Amur River Basin have ancestry shared by individuals who speak Mongolic and Tungusic languages, but do not carry ancestry characteristic of farmers from the West Liao River region (around 3000 BC), which contradicts theories that the expansion of these farmers spread the Mongolic and Tungusic proto-languages. Second, farmers from the Yellow River Basin (around 3000 BC) probably spread Sino-Tibetan languages, as their ancestry dispersed both to Tibet-where it forms approximately 84% of the gene pool in some groups-and to the Central Plain, where it has contributed around 59-84% to modern Han Chinese groups. Third, people from Taiwan from around 1300 BC to AD 800 derived approximately 75% of their ancestry from a lineage that is widespread in modern individuals who speak Austronesian, Tai-Kadai and Austroasiatic languages, and that we hypothesize derives from farmers of the Yangtze River Valley. Ancient people from Taiwan also derived about 25% of their ancestry from a northern lineage that is related to, but different from, farmers of the Yellow River Basin, which suggests an additional north-to-south expansion. Fourth, ancestry from Yamnaya Steppe pastoralists arrived in western Mongolia after around 3000 BC but was displaced by previously established lineages even while it persisted in western China, as would be expected if this ancestry was associated with the spread of proto-Tocharian Indo-European languages. Two later gene flows affected western Mongolia: migrants after around 2000 BC with Yamnaya and European farmer ancestry, and episodic influences of later groups with ancestry from Turan.

Regulatory mechanism of lncRNA NORAD on proliferation and invasion of ovarian cancer cells through miR-199a-3p. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2021; 24:1672-1681. [PMID: 32141533 DOI: 10.26355/eurrev_202002_20341] [Citation(s) in RCA: 10] [Impact Index Per Article: 3.3] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/12/2022]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the regulatory mechanism of lncRNA NORAD on proliferation and invasion of ovarian cancer cells through miR-199a-3p. PATIENTS AND METHODS Eighty-six ovarian cancer tissues and 86 tissues adjacent to cancer, human ovarian cancer cell lines SKOV3, HO-8910, A2780, OVCAR-3, and human normal ovarian epithelial cell line IOSE80 were collected. MiR-199a-3p-mimics, miR-199a-3p-inhibitor, miR-NC, si-NORAD, Sh-NORAD, and NC were transfected into HO-8910 and A2780 cells, the expression levels of lncRNA NORAD and miR-199a-3p in ovarian cancer tissues and cells were detected by qRT-PCR, and the expression levels of N-cadherin, E-cadherin, and vimentin in cells were detected by WB. Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), transwell, and cell scratch tests were used to detect proliferation, invasion, and migration of cells, and the relationship between lncRNA NORAD and miR-199a-3p was confirmed by the Dual-Luciferase reporter assay. RESULTS LncRNA NORAD was highly expressed and miR-199a-3p was lowly expressed in ovarian cancer, and the expression levels of LNCRNARAD and miR-199a-3p were negatively correlated. Cell experiments showed that inhibiting the expression of lncRNA NORAD or up-regulating the expression of miR-199a-3p could inhibit the proliferation, invasion, migration, and EMT of ovarian cancer cells, while up-regulating the expression of lncRNA NORAD or inhibiting the expression of miR-199a-3p could promote their proliferation, invasion, migration, and EMT. Dual-Luciferase reporter assay confirmed that there was a regulatory relationship between lncRNA NORAD and miR-199a-3p. CONCLUSIONS LncRNA NORAD was highly expressed in ovarian cancer tissues, while silencing lncRNA NORAD expression could inhibit the proliferation, invasion, migration, and EMT of ovarian cancer cells by regulating miR-199a-3p, which might be a new target for the diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer.
