Abstract
Electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) into sustainable fuels and base chemicals requires precise control over and understanding of activity, selectivity and stability descriptors of the electrocatalyst under operation. Identification of the active phase under working conditions, but also deactivation factors after prolonged operation, are of the utmost importance to further improve electrocatalysts for electrochemical CO2 conversion. Here, we present a multiscale in situ investigation of activation and deactivation pathways of oxide-derived copper electrocatalysts under CO2 reduction conditions. Using well-defined Cu2O octahedra and cubes, in situ X-ray scattering experiments track morphological changes at small scattering angles and phase transformations at wide angles, with millisecond to second time resolution and ensemble-scale statistics. We find that undercoordinated active sites promote CO2 reduction products directly after Cu2O to Cu activation, whereas less active planar surface sites evolve over time. These multiscale insights highlight the dynamic and intimate relationship between electrocatalyst structure, surface-adsorbed molecules, and catalytic performance, and our in situ X-ray scattering methodology serves as an additional tool to elucidate the factors that govern electrocatalyst (de)stabilization.

Abstract
Cementum, a bone-like tissue, is an essential component of periodontium, and periodontitis can lead to degenerative changes in the cementum, eventually resulting in tooth loss. The therapeutic strategy for advanced periodontitis is to achieve periodontal regeneration, of which cementum regeneration is a key criterion. Cementoblasts are responsible for cementogenesis, and their mineralization counts in cementum regeneration. However, research is still limited. Thus, novel treatment targets are required. The expression levels of lysine (K)-specific demethylase 6B (KDM6B), fatty acid oxidation (FAO), and cementogenic markers were detected by quantitative polymerase chain reaction, Western blot, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemical assays. FAO levels were analyzed by assay kit. In vivo, injection of GSK-J4 into mice detected the influence of KDM6B on cementum formation. Chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing, transcriptomic RNA sequencing, subsequent chromatin immunoprecipitation-quantitative polymerase chain reaction and overexpression of HADHA (hydroxyacyl-coA dehydrogenase trifunctional multienzyme complex subunit alpha) elucidated the KDM6B-Hadha axis. Global lactylation was detected by Western blot. Lactylation proteomics clarified the modified sites of HADHA. Mutating these sites and applying coimmunoprecipitation confirmed their significance. Knockdown of Kdm6b was utilized to assess its regulation on the lactylation of HADHA, FAO, and mineralization levels. FAO and KDM6B expression was elevated during cementoblast mineralization. KDM6B targeted Hadha and activated its transcription, thereby increasing FAO levels and promoting mineralization. Lactylation occurred in the process of mineralization, and KDM6B could regulate the lactylation of HADHA to promote FAO and mineralization. Overexpression of Hadha and the addition of lactate sodium could rescue the inhibition of mineralization by knockdown of Kdm6b. In summary, during cementoblast mineralization, KDM6B regulates HADHA by mediating histone demethylation and lactylation, thereby upregulating FAO and thus promoting mineralization.

Abstract
Objective: To determine the distributions of serum HBsAg level in treatment-naive or treatment-experienced chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients. Methods: Based on the China Registry of Hepatitis B (CR-HepB), a nationwide hospital-based electronic platform, treatment-naive or treatment-experienced CHB patients who receive nucleos(t)ide analog (NA) therapy were enrolled in our study. We collected patients' clinical characteristics, including demographic, virological and biochemical data. The distributions of HBsAg levels in those two groups were summarized with counts and percentages. Continuous variables were expressed as median (interquartile range, IQR) or mean±SD. Results: A total of 13 505 treatment-naive CHB patients and 6 309 patients with previous NAs therapy were enrolled in the final analysis. The proportion of patients in those two groups with serum HBsAg<100 IU/ml, <500 IU/ml, <1 500 IU/ml or HBsAg level not lower than 1 500 IU/ml, 3 000 IU/ml or 8 000 IU/ml were 10.51% vs. 12.88%, 28.47% vs. 29.84%, 46.85% vs. 52.07%, 53.15% vs. 47.93%, 38.17% vs. 31.77%, 15.62% vs. 10.39%, respectively. HBsAg levels tended to decrease gradually with the duration of antiviral therapy: the percentage of patients with HBsAg levels below 100 IU/ml increased from 12.73% at less than 3 years of treatment to 26.92% at≥10 years of treatment, whereas the percentage of patients with HBsAg levels of 3 000 IU/ml or 8 000 IU/ml and above decreased from 34.66% to 23.08% and from 12.19% to 5.77%, respectively. Conclusions: Our investigation manifested the distribution of the serum HBsAg in treatment-naive CHB patients and patients who received previous NAs treatment. As the duration of antiviral therapy is prolonged, the HBsAg level tends to decrease gradually.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate and compare the clinical efficacy and prognosis of D3 lymphadenectomy/complete mesocolic excision in treatment of right colon cancer with different medial boundaries. Methods: We searched The Cochrane Library, Pubmed, Embase, CBM, VIP, CNKI, and WanFang data bases for superior mesenteric artery (SMA)-oriented and superior mesenteric vein (SMV)-oriented D3 lymphadenectomy/complete mesocolic excision from inception to December, 2023. The resultant data were submitted to meta-analysis using RevMan 5.3 software. Results: In total, we identified nine eligible studies involving 2467 patients. The SMA group had 982 patients and the SMV group had 1 485 patients. Meta-analysis revealed no significant differences in intraoperative bleeding volume, postoperative time to passage of flatus, or postoperative drainage volume between the two studied approaches. The durations of surgery and of postoperative hospital stay were both significantly longer in the SMA than SMV group (weighted mean difference [WMD]=17.70, 95%CI: 6.90-28.50, P=0.001; WMD=0.40, 95%CI: 0.07-0.72, P=0.020, respectively). Furthermore, the rate of postoperative complications was greater in the SMA than SMV group. For example, the incidences of postoperative chyle leakage and diarrhea were significantly higher in the SMA than SMV group, (OR=1.25, 95%CI: 1.01-1.54, P = 0.040; OR=3.60, 95%CI: 2.39-5.41, P < 0.001; OR=2.13, 95%CI: 1.10-4.11, P = 0.020, respectively). In terms of oncological efficacy, the total number of lymph nodes dissected and the number of positive lymph nodes in the SMA group were significantly higher than in the SMV group (WMD=2.76, 95%CI:1.22-4.31, P < 0.001, WMD=0.59, 95%CI: 0.06-1.12, P = 0.030). Conclusion: Laparoscopic surgery for right colon cancer, using the left margin of the SMA as the medial boundary for dissection is associated with a higher risk of postoperative complications, such as chyle leakage and diarrhea, than is using the superior mesenteric vein as the medial boundary. The durations of surgery and postoperative hospital stay are longer. SMA left margin dissection has significant oncological advantages, including a higher total number of harvested lymph nodes and of positive lymph nodes.

Application two-dimensional gel electrophoresis coupled with LC-MS/MS to identify candidate serodiagnostic antigens for early detection Psoroptes ovis var. cuniculi infection. Vet Parasitol 2024; 334:110383. Abstract
Currently, the 'gold standard' for diagnosis of Psoroptes ovis infections is detecting Psoroptes mites or eggs in skin scrapings under microscopy, but it is prone to be mis-diagnosed for detecting early infection of P. ovis. Hence, seeking a reliable diagnostic technique for detecting early-stage mite infections is extremely desirable. Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) has proven to be useful for the diagnosis of early-stage P. ovis infection. Thus, the purpose of this study was to screen serodiagnostic candidate antigens that can detect early P. ovis infection. Psoroptes ovis var. cuniculi wash proteins (PsoWA), which contained an enriched source of secretory and excretory antigens, were separated by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) and screened by immunoblot using sera from rabbits with early-stage Psoroptes infection (1 week and 3 weeks). Immunogenic proteins were submitted for sequencing by liquid chromatography tandem-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analyses. Three potential diagnostic antigens were identified (PsoSP3, Pso14-3-3(1) and Pso14-3-3(2)) in this study. These were further expressed in E. coli expression system to evaluate the serodiagnostic potential of these recombinant proteins for detecting early-stage P. ovis infection using an indirect ELISA (iELISA). Western blotting showed that 34 protein spots were recognized by rabbit sera of 1 week post-infection (wpi) and 3 wpi. The 2-DE results showed that a total of 199 proteins were detected with molecular weights varying from 20 to 100 kDa and isoelectric point (pI) from 4.1 to 9.3. Among these, 90 proteins were detected both at 1 wpi sera and 3 wpi sera, and the numbers of the specific identified proteins were 27 for 1 wpi sera and 82 for 3wpi sera. Moreover, rPsoSP3 showed better diagnostic efficacy than rPso14-3-3(1) and rPso14-3-3(2) in detecting early-stage P. ovis infection for its higher values of sensitivity, specificity and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve. Our study describes the first immunoproteomic analysis to identify early diagnostic candidate antigens of P. ovis, and the identified antigens of Psoroptes in our study have significant implications for the development of early-stage diagnostic tests. PsoSP3 is a promising early diagnostic antigen for detecting P. ovis var. cuniculi infection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) inhibitors have significantly improved outcomes for patients with FGFR-altered cholangiocarcinoma, leading to their regulatory approval in multiple countries. However, as with many targeted therapies, acquired resistance limits their efficacy. A comprehensive, multimodal approach is crucial to characterizing resistance patterns to FGFR inhibitors. PATIENTS AND METHODS This study integrated data from six investigative strategies: cell-free DNA, tissue biopsy, rapid autopsy, statistical genomics, in vitro and in vivo studies, and pharmacology. We characterized the diversity, clonality, frequency, and mechanisms of acquired resistance to FGFR inhibitors in patients with FGFR-altered cholangiocarcinoma. Clinical samples were analyzed longitudinally as part of routine care across 10 institutions. RESULTS Among 138 patients evaluated, 77 met eligibility, yielding a total of 486 clinical samples. Patients with clinical benefit exhibited a significantly higher rate of FGFR2 kinase domain mutations compared to those without clinical benefit (65% vs 10%, p<0.0001). We identified 26 distinct FGFR2 kinase domain mutations, with 63% of patients harboring multiple. While IC50 assessments indicated strong potency of pan-FGFR inhibitors against common resistance mutations, pharmacokinetic studies revealed that low clinically achievable drug concentrations may underly polyclonal resistance. Molecular brake and gatekeeper mutations predominated, with 94% of patients with FGFR2 mutations exhibiting one or both, whereas mutations at the cysteine residue targeted by covalent inhibitors were rare. Statistical genomics and functional studies demonstrated that mutation frequencies were driven by their combined effects on drug binding and kinase activity rather than intrinsic mutational processes. CONCLUSION Our multimodal analysis led to a model characterizing the biology of acquired resistance, informing the rational design of next-generation FGFR inhibitors. FGFR inhibitors should be small, high-affinity, and selective for specific FGFR family members. Tinengotinib, a novel small molecule inhibitor with these characteristics, exhibited preclinical and clinical activity against key resistance mutations. This integrated approach offers a blueprint for advancing drug resistance research across cancer types.

Search for CP violation in D 0 → K S 0 K S 0 decays in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 Te V. THE EUROPEAN PHYSICAL JOURNAL. C, PARTICLES AND FIELDS 2024; 84:1264. Abstract
A search is reported for charge-parity CP violation inD 0 → K S 0 K S 0 decays, using data collected in proton-proton collisions ats = 13 Te V recorded by the CMS experiment in 2018. The analysis uses a dedicated data set that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 41.6fb - 1 , which consists of about 10 billion events containing a pair of b hadrons, nearly all of which decay to charm hadrons. The flavor of the neutral D meson is determined by the pion charge in the reconstructed decaysD ∗ + → D 0 π + andD ∗ - → D ¯ 0 π - . The CP asymmetry inD 0 → K S 0 K S 0 is measured to beA CP ( K S 0 K S 0 ) = ( 6.2 ± 3.0 ± 0.2 ± 0.8 ) % , where the three uncertainties represent the statistical uncertainty, the systematic uncertainty, and the uncertainty in the measurement of the CP asymmetry in theD 0 → K S 0 π + π - decay. This is the first CP asymmetry measurement by CMS in the charm sector as well as the first to utilize a fully hadronic final state.

Abstract
The grazed grasslands of Inner Mongolia offer a critical research setting for studying the impacts of long-term grazing on soil, hydraulic, vegetative, and meteorological variables, and potentially contribute to examine threshold responses to grazing activity or climate dynamics in colder Eurasian temperate grasslands. The dataset consists of long-term observations of soil temperature and moisture, as well as other related parameters across three scales: pedon, field, and catchment scale. This includes: i) At the pedon scale, data collection was conducted on five sites: long-term grazing exclusion since 1979 (UG79), short-term grazing exclusion since 1999 (UG99), continuous grazing (CG), heavy year-round grazing (HG), and moderate winter grazing (WG), from May 2004 to August 2008. Profiled soil moisture at depths of 5, 20, and 40 cm was continuously monitored using theta-probes, while soil temperature at depths of 2, 8, 20, 40, and 100 cm was monitored using Platinum ground temperature probes. Since 2016, newly automated monitoring instruments were also used for continuous monitoring of soil temperature and moisture at depths of 10, 30, 50, 70, and 100 cm at the UG79, UG99, and CG sites. ii) At the field scale, during the growth period from 2004 to 2008, a regular sampling grid (about 100 points) was established in all five sites using differential GPS and UTM systems. Soil water content, water drop penetration time, shear strength, and hydraulic conductivity were measured once per week/month. At the beginning, soil organic carbon concentration, bulk density, soil texture, and plant parameters were also taken at each grid point. iii) At the catchment scale, a field sampling scheme was designed, using land use and soil type as stratification variables. A total of 30 sampling points were selected. At each sampling point, detailed soil surveys were conducted to measure soil profile characteristics, including soil colour, texture, structure, and chemical elements. Additionally, some soil hydrological properties were recorded on site. This dataset offers critical insights into the factors influencing livestock carrying capacity in Mongolian grasslands. The integration of these data types can substantially enhance our understanding and management of these ecosystems.

Computational analysis and expression profiling of NAC transcription factor family involved in biotic stress response in Manihot esculenta. PLANT BIOLOGY (STUTTGART, GERMANY) 2024; 26:1247-1259. Abstract
The Nascent polypeptide-Associated Complex (NAC) family is among the largest plant-specific TF families and plays an important role in plant growth, development, and stress responses. NAC TFs have been extensively studied in plants such as rice and Arabidopsis; however, their characterization, functions, evolution, and expression patterns in Manihot esculenta (cassava) under environmental stress remain largely unexplored. Here, we used bioinformatic analyses and biotic stress responses to investigate the physicochemical properties, chromosome location, phylogeny, gene structure, expression patterns, and cis-elements in promoter regions of the NAC TFs in cassava. We identified 119 M. esculenta NAC (MeNAC) gene families, unevenly distributed on 16 chromosomes. We investigated expression patterns of all identified MeNAC TFs under Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. manihotis (Xam) infection, strain CHN11, at different time points. Only 20 MeNAC TFs showed expression of significant bacterial resistance. Six MeNACs (MeNAC7, 26, 63, 65, 77, and 113) were selected for functional analysis. qRT-PCR assays revealed that MeNAC7, 26, 63, 65, 77, and 113 were induced in response to XamCHN11 infection and may participate in the molecular interaction of cassava and bacterial blight. Interestingly, MeNAC26, MeNAC63, MeNAC65, and MeNAC113 responded to XamCHN11 infection at 3 h post-inoculation. Furthermore, we identified 13 stress-related cis-elements in promoter regions of the MeNAC genes that are involved in diverse environmental stress responses. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that MeNAC genes with similar structures and motif distributions were grouped. This study provides valuable insights into the evolution, diversity, and characterization of MeNAC TFs. It lays the groundwork for a better understanding of their biological roles and molecular mechanisms in cassava.

Abstract
Non-equilibrium quantum transport is crucial to technological advances ranging from nanoelectronics to thermal management. In essence, it deals with the coherent transfer of energy and (quasi-)particles through quantum channels between thermodynamic baths. A complete understanding of quantum transport thus requires the ability to simulate and probe macroscopic and microscopic physics on equal footing. Using a superconducting quantum processor, we demonstrate the emergence of non-equilibrium steady quantum transport by emulating the baths with qubit ladders and realising steady particle currents between the baths. We experimentally show that the currents are independent of the microscopic details of bath initialisation, and their temporal fluctuations decrease rapidly with the size of the baths, emulating those predicted by thermodynamic baths. The above characteristics are experimental evidence of pure-state statistical mechanics and prethermalisation in non-equilibrium many-body quantum systems. Furthermore, by utilising precise controls and measurements with single-site resolution, we demonstrate the capability to tune steady currents by manipulating the macroscopic properties of the baths, including filling and spectral properties. Our investigation paves the way for a new generation of experimental exploration of non-equilibrium quantum transport in strongly correlated quantum matter.

Clin Radiol 2024; 80:106749. [PMID: 39642430 DOI: 10.1016/j.crad.2024.106749] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 12/15/2023] [Revised: 11/07/2024] [Accepted: 11/12/2024] [Indexed: 12/08/2024]
Abstract
AIM To develop a larynx preservation (LP) score model to predict laryngectomy-free survival (LFS) in advanced laryngeal squamous-cell carcinoma (LSCC) with morphological response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). MATERIALS AND METHODS In this retrospective study, patients with advanced LSCC were included. All patients were classified into NAC response and non-response groups according RECIST. Arterial and venous phases of standardized iodine concentrations of dual-energy CT were measured in the response group, and the rate of iodine concentration change (ΔNIC%) was calculated by (NICpost-NICpre)/NICpre ×100%. Clinical outcomes between the two groups were analyzed using chi-square test. Univariable and multivariable cox regression analyses were performed to evaluate the independent predictors of LFS in the response group. A risk score was developed based on the hazard ratios from the multivariable analysis. RESULTS A total of 146 patients were included. 86 patients achieved a response. T stage, N status, and ΔNAIC% were independent predictors of LFS for LSCC patients with NAC morphological response (all, p<0.001). Based on these factors, the established LP risk score model demonstrated an AUC of 0.877 for the 1-year LFS rate and 0.950 for the 2-year LFS rate. Patients with a score ≥6 had a worse LFS (p<0.001) and OS (p=0.001). CONCLUSION A prediction risk score incorporating T stage, N status, and ΔNAIC% shows good predictive effectiveness for LFS in advanced LSCC with morphological response to NAC. It can prevent high-risk patients in the NAC response group from undergoing salvage laryngectomy and improve patient prognosis.

Search for Soft Unclustered Energy Patterns in Proton-Proton Collisions at 13 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2024; 133:191902. Abstract
The first search for soft unclustered energy patterns (SUEPs) is performed using an integrated luminosity of 138 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, collected in 2016-2018 by the CMS detector at the LHC. Such SUEPs are predicted by hidden valley models with a new, confining force with a large 't Hooft coupling. In events with boosted topologies, selected by high-threshold hadronic triggers, the multiplicity and sphericity of clustered tracks are used to reject the background from standard model quantum chromodynamics. With no observed excess of events over the standard model expectation, limits are set on the cross section for production via gluon fusion of a scalar mediator with SUEP-like decays.

ZHONGHUA ER BI YAN HOU TOU JING WAI KE ZA ZHI = CHINESE JOURNAL OF OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY HEAD AND NECK SURGERY 2024; 59:1210-1215. [PMID: 39631802 DOI: 10.3760/cma.j.cn115330-20240326-00173] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 12/07/2024]
Abstract
Objective: To investigate the pathogenesis, clinical signs and diagnosing procedures of relapsing polychondritis(RP) in children with airway involvement. Methods: The medical history, clinical symptoms, physical examination, electronic laryngoscopy and imaging findings of six patients were retrospectively analyzed. The patients diagnosed as relapsing polychondritis with involving the airway from January 2018 to December 2021 were in our hospital. The clinical features of the 6 cases were summarized. Results: All 6 patients were male, ranging in age from 8 years 1 month to 14 years 1 month, with a median age of 12.04 years. Stridor and dyspnea were observed in all patients, with hoarseness in 2 patients and frequently nocturnal dyspnea during sleep in 2 patients. Initially, all children were diagnosed as laryngitis or laryngotracheitis, and were treated symptomatically with glucocorticoids and aerosol inhalation. Immunosuppressants and targeted therapy with biologics were given after patients diagnosed as RP. All patients were ultimately required tracheostomy. The time from the onset of airway symptoms to tracheostomy ranged from 1 month to 27 months. Two children had a history of endotracheal intubation prior to tracheostomy. All 6 patients underwent electronic laryngoscopy, revealing involvement of the laryngeal and subglottic mucosa and cartilage structures, which showed gradual improvement with medical therapy. Computed tomography (CT) of the trachea with three-dimensional reconstruction was performed in all patients, demonstrating moderate to severe subglottic stenosis. Two patients exhibited complete airway obstruction at the C4-C6 cervical level. Three children underwent suspension laryngoscopy under general anesthesia and endotracheal mucosal biopsy.Of the 6 children, 3 presented with nasal tip collapse or saddle nose, 2 had auricular cartilage changed, and 1 had scleralinvolvement. One patient underwent PET-CT scanning, which revealed tracheal collapse, diffuse increase in FDG(Flurodeoxyglucose)metabolism with increased FDG uptake in the nasal alar regions. All children were followed up for 2-3 years, 1 child died, while the remaining five continued to receive medical treatment. Conclusions: Relapsing polychondritis with airway involvement has an insidious onset and is difficult to diagnose. The airway stenosisresulting from RP is always severe and necessitating tracheotomy to maintain airway patency in the majority of cases. The treatment coursef or RP is prolonged, requiring long-term tracheostomy tube placement.

Abstract
Information on patients with rifampicin-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis (RR-PTB) in Yangzhou City from 2012 to 2020 was obtained from the Information System of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The epidemic characteristics of RR-PTB patients were analyzed by using χ2 test. The average annual registered incidence rate of RR-PTB patients in Yangzhou City from 2012 to 2020 was 0.57/100 000, and the difference between the registered incidence rates in each year was statistically significant (χ2=29.326, P<0.001). The proportion of re-treated patients (64.8%) was higher than that of newly treated patients (35.2%, χ2=50.593, P<0.001). The registered incidence rate in males (0.91/100 000) was higher than that in females (0.24/100 000, χ2=80.566, P<0.001). The age distribution showed that the highest incidence rate was in the age group≥60 years (0.96/100 000) and the lowest was in the age group 0-<45 years (0.31/100 000, χ2=55.853, P<0.001). From 2012 to 2020, Baoying County had the largest number of registered RR-PTB patients (44 cases), and its registered incidence rate (0.64/100 000) was only lower than that of Guangling District (0.98/100 000). The registered incidence rate of RR-PTB patients in Baoying County during 2016-2020 also increased significantly compared to 2012-2015 (P=0.001). Logistic regression was used to analyze the factors related to the treatment outcome of RR-PTB patients. The results showed that patients aged≥60 years and those classified as the re-treatment were risk factors for successful treatment of RR-PTB patients (P<0.05). In summary, males, people aged≥60 years, patients classified as the re-treatment, and residents of Baoying County should be the key populations for RR-PTB epidemic prevention and control in Yangzhou City.

Comparison of predictive ability of single-trait and multitrait genomic selection models for body growth traits in Maiwa yaks. Animal 2024; 18:101350. Abstract
Yaks are grazed extensively on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, which has a long history of semi-domestication. The predicted weight of yaks over consecutive years helps make strategic decisions when selecting yak calves for breeding. To achieve more accurate predictions of genomic estimated breeding values, we used a dataset comprising the genotype and weight records of 396 Maiwa yaks collected from 2015 to 2020. We compared the predictive accuracy of the genome best linear unbiased prediction (GBLUP) model with that of six other models. Based on the GBLUP model, we applied two prediction strategies. In the first strategy, the year was treated as a fixed effect in the GBLUP model, and the kinship from all individuals and the markers were treated as random effects. In the second strategy, all individuals were divided into six age groups, with GBLUP performed for each group, and the phenotypes of the closest age groups were treated as fixed effects. Although the GBLUP model provided better prediction accuracy than other single-trait models, most of the predictive capacity was derived from the best linear unbiased estimation. Additionally, incorporating the phenotype of the closest age group as a factor in multitrait prediction enhanced the accuracy of the model. Our findings provide a robust and credible strategy for predicting continuous economic traits in the presence of strong correlations.

Abstract
Although rare overall, salivary gland carcinomas (SGCs) are among the most common oral and maxillofacial malignancies. The aim of this study was to develop a machine learning-based model to predict the survival of patients with SGC. Patients in whom SGC was confirmed by histological testing and who underwent primary extirpation at the authors' institution between 1963 and 2014 were identified. Demographic and clinicopathological data with complete follow-up information were collected for analysis. Feature selection methods were used to determine the correlation between prognosis-related factors and survival in the collected patient data. The collected clinicopathological data and multiple machine learning algorithms were used to develop a survival prediction model. Three machine learning algorithms were applied to construct the prediction models. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and accuracy were used to measure model performance. The best classification performance was achieved with a LightGBM algorithm (AUC = 0.83, accuracy = 0.91). This model enabled prognostic prediction of patient survival. The model may be useful in developing personalized diagnostic and treatment strategies and formulating individualized follow-up plans, as well as assisting in the communication between doctors and patients, facilitating a better understanding of and compliance with treatment.

Clin Radiol 2024; 79:e1304-e1311. [PMID: 39191561 DOI: 10.1016/j.crad.2024.07.016] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 12/12/2023] [Revised: 06/24/2024] [Accepted: 07/22/2024] [Indexed: 08/29/2024]
Abstract
AIMS To investigate the predictive value of myocardial strain derived from cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) combined with clinical indicators for in-hospital heart failure (HF) in STEMI patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS In all, 139 STEMI patients were included, with 28 in the heart failure group and 111 in the non-HF group, and clinical and laboratory data were collected. Left ventricular (LV) global radial strain (GRS), global longitudinal strain (GLS), global circumferential strain (GCS), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), stroke volume (SV), and infarct size (IS) were assessed by CMR. RESULTS The HF group had worse GRS, GLS, GCS, LVEF, SV, larger IS, longer symptom to balloon time (SBT) and higher levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and neutrophil percentage (N%) than the non-HF group (P<0.05). There was a strong correlation between GRS and LVEF (r=0.741, P<0.001). After adjustment for CMR and clinical risk factors, GRS<15.6%, LVEF<37.7%, SBT>350 min, hs-CRP>11.45 mg/L, and N%>74% were independently associated with HF. Clinical model (SBT>350 min + hs-CRP>11.45 mg/L + N%>74%) were associated with a lower diagnostic accuracy for predicting in-hospital HF than GRS + clinical co-model and LVEF + clinical co-model (P<0.05), respectively. There was no significant difference in the area under the curve (AUC) between GRS + clinical co-model and LVEF + clinical co-model (P=0.620): AUC for clinical model = 0.824, AUC for GRS + clinical co-model = 0.895, and AUC for LVEF + clinical co-model = 0.907. CONCLUSIONS GRS may be effective in predicting in-hospital heart failure after STEMI compared to LVEF, a classical cardiac function parameter, and its combination with clinical risk factors, especially SBT, hs-CRP, and N%, may provide further evidence for early prognostic assessment.

Abstract
Repair and preservation of the injured meniscus has become paramount in clinical practice. However, the complexities of various clinic stitching techniques for meniscus repair pose challenges for grassroots doctors. Hence, there is a compelling interest in innovative therapeutic strategies such as bioadhesives. An ideal bioadhesive must cure quickly in aqueous and blood environments, bind strongly, endure arthroscopic washing pressures, and degrade appropriately for tissue regeneration. Here, we present a tetra-poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG)-based hydrogel bioadhesive, boasting high biocompatibility, ultrafast gelation, facile injectable operation, and favorable mechanical strength. In view of the synergistic effects of chemical anchor and physical chain entanglement to tightly bind the meniscus, a seamless interface was formed between the surrounding meniscal tissues and hydrogels, enabling the longitudinal tear of the meniscus fused in situ to withstand large tensile force with the adhesive strength of 541.5 ± 31.4 kPa and arthroscopic washout resistance of 29.4 kPa. Superior to existing commercial adhesives, ours allows sutureless application and arthroscopic assistance, without requiring specialized clinical skills. This research is expected to significantly impact our understanding of meniscal healing and ultimately promote a simpler process for achieving functional and structural recovery in torn menisci.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the 5-year relative survival rate of cancer in Henan province based on cancer registration data. Methods: Cancer survival data were extracted from the cancer registration database of Henan province with the diagnosis date between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2019 were included. The closing date of follow-up was set as December 31, 2019. The 5-year relative survival rate of cancer was calculated using the period survival analysis method and the Ederer II method in the R package "periodR", and the interest period was between 2015 and 2019. Results: During the period of 2015-2019, the overall 5-year relative survival rate of cancer patients in Henan province was 43.6%, and after age-standardization, it was 40.2%. The overall 5-year relative survival rate showed the characteristics of higher survival rate in females than males (45.9% vs 34.7%, Z=39.60, P<0.001) and higher survival rate in urban areas than rural areas (44.9% vs 39.1%, Z=12.97, P<0.001). The 5-year relative survival rate for cancer patients among children aged 0-14 was 60.2%, and for adults aged 15 and above, it was 43.5%, which was standardized to 40.2% after age adjustment. There are two types of cancers with a standardized 5-year relative survival rate exceeding 70% (thyroid cancer at 82.2% and breast cancer at 71.6%), and four cancers with a rate below 30% (pancreatic cancer at 18.2%, liver cancer at 19.6%, lung cancer at 24.0%, and gallbladder cancer at 26.6%). Conclusion: The cancer 5-year survival rate in Henan Province is lower than that of the national average, indicating the need for continued enhancement of cancer prevention and control measures.

Search for the Z Boson Decay to ττμμ in Proton-Proton Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2024; 133:161805. [PMID: 39485967 DOI: 10.1103/physrevlett.133.161805] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 04/28/2024] [Accepted: 08/14/2024] [Indexed: 11/03/2024]
Abstract
The first search for the Z boson decay to ττμμ at the CERN LHC is presented, based on data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb^{-1}. The data are compatible with the predicted background. For the first time, an upper limit at the 95% confidence level of 6.9 times the standard model expectation is placed on the ratio of the Z→ττμμ to Z→4μ branching fractions. Limits are also placed on the six flavor-conserving four-lepton effective-field-theory operators involving two muons and two tau leptons, for the first time testing all such operators.

Abstract
A search for long-lived particles (LLPs) using 140 fb^{-1} of pp collision data with sqrt[s]=13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC is presented. The search targets LLPs with masses between 5 and 55 GeV that decay hadronically in the ATLAS inner detector. Benchmark models with LLP pair production from exotic decays of the Higgs boson and models featuring long-lived axionlike particles (ALPs) are considered. No significant excess above the expected background is observed. Upper limits are placed on the branching ratio of the Higgs boson to pairs of LLPs, the cross section for ALPs produced in association with a vector boson, and, for the first time, on the branching ratio of the top quark to an ALP and a u/c quark.
