The effect of nasal surgery on snoring

Patients with nasal obstruction often have associated snoring. It is uncertain whether surgery, which relieves the nasal obstruction, will also relieve the snoring. We have reviewed 96 patients who complain of both nasal obstruction and snoring and who underwent nasal surgery. Snoring was completely relieved in 48 patients (50%), was less loud in a further 38 patients (40%), unchanged in 8 patients, and louder in 2. Patients who had nasal polypectomy as part of their nasal surgery obtained the greatest snoring relief. The relationship between nasal obstruction and snoring is complex and the alteration of airflow patterns after nasal surgery is postulated to be important in influencing snoring relief. This study suggests that, when snoring and nasal obstruction coexist, nasal surgery should be considered as the first line of surgical treatment.

Tonsil and Adenoid Surgery for Upper Airway Obstruction in Children

We studied the outcomes of 76 children, aged 3 to 12 years, with large tonsils and/or large adenoids who underwent surgery to relieve upper airway obstruction over a 1-year period. Following surgery, nearly all patients experienced an alleviation of all symptoms, except for enuresis. We suggest that children who have large tonsils and/or adenoids will gain substantial benefit if they are removed, even children who do not have a history of severe sleep apnea or objective evidence from polysomnography.

The Arab Diabetes Forum (ADF) has established localized recommendations to tackle the region's rising diabetes prevalence. The recommendations, which incorporate worldwide best practices, seek to enhance the quality of treatment for people with diabetes by raising knowledge and adherence among healthcare providers. The guidelines include comprehensive recommendations for screening, diagnosing, and treating type 1 and type 2 diabetes in children and adults for better overall health results.
