Contributing Factors of Cyberbullying Behavior among Youths During Covid-19

Introduction: The use of information technology during the Covid-19 period is inevitable and can lead to cyberbullying. Mental and life health conditions can be threatened due to being the victim of cyberbullying. This study aims to determine the factors that contribute to the formation of cyberbullying behavior among youths in South Sumatra, Indonesia.Methods: A cross-sectional study was undertaken. The population was youths in South Sumatra, Indonesia with a total sample of 213 respondents who were determined based on purposive sampling. The data collection was done by distributing questionnaires via Google Forms. The questionnaire was developed based on the concept of cyberbullying behavior inclusive of repetition, power imbalance, deliberation and aggression.  The data was analyzed using ANOVA and MANOVA.Results: In the study, we found that gender contributes the most to shaping cyberbullying behavior (p=0.000), followed by the parent’s occupation (p=0.018).Conclusion: It is necessary to establish an interconnected system between parents, youth groups and the education sector to avoid cyberbullying behavior. The ability of youths to adapt constructively to the increasing advancement of information technology and to use it wisely is something urgent that needs to be observed so then the cyberbullying cycle can be eradicated.

Objective

The qualitative research participants were 15 mothers, had children, and did not work.

Methods

Collecting data through in-depth interviews, observations, and field notes. The data were arranged into transcripts, analyzed through the process of data reduction, triangulation and conclusions.

Results

The resulting themes include: inner family conflicts, the mother of a central family figure, increased family burdens, lack of awareness, fluctuations in family income which are internal causes, while external causes are inconsistencies in implementing regulations, the uncertainty of information validity, lack of role models, restrictions in cultivating culture.

Conclusion

It is necessary to strengthen multisectoral coordination continuously in fostering a culture of awareness of using masks during the Covid-19 period.

Investigating the experiences of family caregivers who shackle people with mental disorders

The mental health literacy gap has resulted in the shackling of people with mental illness by family caregivers. Although shackling violates human rights and impacts physical and psychological health, it still occurs in some countries, such as Indonesia. An in-depth study using the family function approach is needed to distinguish the components behind the application of shackling by families to find solutions to prevent shackling. Thus, this study aims to identify family functions in people with mental disorder (PWMD) care and to create a family care model for PWMD in accordance with the family function approach and recommendations for preventing shackling. This qualitative research used a phenomenological approach, involving eight participants who are family caregivers and live with their patients. Triangulation was conducted by applying interviews with four health cadres to confirm previous information. The process of in-depth interviews and observational data collection methods was carried out until reaching data saturation. The data analysis process used Collaizi's pattern to formulate three main themes, namely confinement as the final solution for the family, the specifics of confinement, and the family's purpose for confinement. The conclusion is that shackling occurs due to a lack of understanding of the impact of shackling and the various limitations experienced, so shackling becomes the last resort when dealing with patients. Peer support is very important for families to prevent the confinement of mentally ill family members. Technological advances are an inherent need in everyday life and must support family caregivers with mental disorders.

Female Nurses’ Experience of Psychological Changes when Caring COVID-19 Patients in Indonesia: A Qualitative Study

BACKGROUND: Nurses as health workers at the frontline have major challenges in dealing with COVID-19. The COVID-19 pandemic can cause the risk of psychological changes in nurses in maintaining the quality of public health services. AIM: This study aims to explore nurses’ experiences through their psychological changes when giving treatment to COVID-19 patients. DESIGN AND METHOD: This qualitative research employed a phenomenological approach. Purposive sampling was applied to determine the participants with criteria of female nurses caring COVID-19 patients and working in hospitals until achieved data saturation. The data were collected by interviewing participants through phone and video calls. In-depth interview recordings were presented in transcriptions, and the contents were analyzed into codes, categories, and themes. RESULTS: Eight nurses participated in this study. This research resulted three themes: Self-surrender during early nursing care for COVID-19 patients, acceptance of the feelings and achievements as COVID-19 nurses, and self-empowerment supported by the environment. CONCLUSIONS: The psychological changes during the nursing care start from self-surrender in the early period of COVID-19 patient care, self-acceptance for any feelings and achievements as COVID-19 nurses, to the forms of self-empowerment and environmental support.

Family resilience in caring for drug addiction

OBJECTIVE

Teenagers are at high risk for drug addiction. Family resilience is important in preventing adolescent involvement in drug abuse. This qualitative study aims to explore the experience of family resilience based on the perspective of parents when their children are addicted to drugs.

METHOD

This qualitative study used a phenomenological method, involving eight participants based on a purposive sampling technique with inclusion criteria of mothers who have experience caring for their teenage children who have been addicted to drugs. Data qualitative was collected through in-depth interviews, field notes and observations. The data collection process was discontinued after reaching data saturation, namely after interviewing eight participants. The process of interpreting meaning is carried out to obtain the significance of the results of in-depth interviews accompanied by triangulation of methods and data using interpretive phenomenological analysis. Researchers strive to ensure the validity and reliability of the study. This research was conducted for six months in mid-2019.

RESULT

This study resulted in five themes that can be categorized into one supporting theme and four inhibiting themes. The supporting themes are acceptance of God's destiny, while the themes of limited financial conditions, lack of time together, the flexibility of a fragile family and harsh environment are categorized as inhibiting themes.

CONCLUSION

Mothers have an important role in optimizing family resilience while caring for and improving the quality of life of their children who have experienced drug addiction.
