Abstract
Rye bran was used as a fat substitute in the production of meatballs. The effect of rye bran addition on the fatty acid composition, trans fatty acids, total fat, some physico-chemical and sensory properties of the samples was studied. Meatballs were produced with four different formulations including 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% rye bran addition. Control samples were formulated with 10% fat addition. Meatballs containing rye bran had lower concentrations of total fat and total trans fatty acids than the control samples. Meatballs made with addition of 20% rye bran had the highest protein, ash contents, L value (lightness), b value (yellowness), and the lowest moisture, salt content and weight losses and a value (redness). There was a significant difference among the meatball samples in respect to sensory properties and 5%, 10% rye bran added meatballs and control samples had high acceptability.

Abstract
Cyclophosphamide (CYC) and doxorubicin (DOX) are among the most effective and widely used anticancer chemotherapeutic drugs. Potential chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic functions have recently been attributed to flavonoids. We hypothesized that Quercetin (QR) would protect against the toxic effects of chemotherapeutic agents applied prior to pregnancy. Rats were treated with the chemotherapeutic drugs CYC (27 mg/kg) and DOX (1.8 mg/kg) applied in a single intraperitoneal dose once every 3 weeks for 10 weeks. QR was administered at a dose of 10 mg/kg/day by oral gavage. 48 h following the experimental chemotherapy exposure, female rats were transferred to cages containing male rat for mating. Fetal brain tissues were removed from fetuses extracted by cesarean section on the 20th day of gestation for evaluation of antioxidant parameters. A significant increase in superoxide dismutase and malondialdehyde activity was observed in CYC and DOX treatment groups relative to the control group (p < 0.05). Similarly, carnitine acylcarnitine translocase and Glutathione activity was significantly reduced in the CYC and DOX groups relative to the control group (p < 0.05). Our results indicate that the use of chemotherapeutic drugs before pregnancy can result in oxidative damage to fetal brain tissue. Therefore, women who have been exposed to chemotherapy and may become pregnant should be treated with antioxidant compounds such as QR to reduce the risk of damage to fetal brain tissues.

Abstract
PURPOSE To reveal the clinical significance of preoperative haematological inflammatory markers in the diagnosis of abdominal wall hernias with strangulation. METHODS The data of 200 patients who underwent surgery for incarcerated hernia were retrospectively analysed. The patients were grouped into three groups; Group 1; only surgical reduction and hernia repair, Group 2; small bowel resection and Group 3; omentum resection. Age, gender, hernia type, the presence of radiological bowel obstruction and preoperative complete blood count data were obtained. Neutrophil-leukocyte ratio (NLR), lymphocyte-monocyte ratio (LMR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), haematological inflammatory index (HII) and systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) values were calculated. RESULTS The study was consisted of; Group 1: 119 patients (59.5%), Group 2: 46 patients (23%) and Group 3: 35 patients (17.5%). Advanced age (p = 0.001), female gender (p = 0.036), incisional hernias (p = < 0.001) and the presence of bowel obstruction (p = < 0.001) were found to be statistically significant in terms of strangulation. NLR, PLR and SII values were significantly higher in Group 2 compared to Group 1, and PLR values were significantly higher in Group 2 compared with Group 3 (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION The preoperative elevated NLR, PLR and SII values may indicate strangulation and possible intestinal resection, in incarcerated abdominal wall hernias.

Abstract
PURPOSE The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) which obtain from diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI), is a quantitative parameter representing the renal function and parenchymal damage in some renal disorders. The primary aim of this study was to investigate whether renal tissue alterations associated with vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) can be displayed by DWI. The secondary aim was to assess how ADC values change with age in kidneys with and without VUR. MATERIALS AND METHODS This prospective study included 46 patients (8 boys, 38 girls; mean age 7.3 ± 4.2; range 1-15 years) with VUR and 54 control subjects (21 boys, 33 girls; mean age 7.7 ± 5.2; range 1-17 years). All subjects underwent DWI of the kidneys using b value of 600s/mm(2) in addition to MR urography. The ADC values of 71 kidneys with VUR were compared with those of 81 kidneys without VUR. RESULTS The mean ADC values were (1.93 ± 0.36)×10(-3)mm(2)/s, (1.97 ± 0.24)× 10(-3)mm(2)/s, (1.83 ± 0.37)× 10(-3)mm(2)/s, (1.98 ± 0.20)×10(-3)mm(2)/s and (2.08 ± 0.42)× 10(-3)mm(2)/s in normal kidneys, and in those with grade 1, grade 2, grade 3 and grade 4 VUR, respectively. There was no significant difference in ADC values between kidneys with and without VUR. There was a significant positive correlation between the age and ADC values both in kidneys with and without VUR (r=0.79, p<0.001 and r=0.82; p<0.001, respectively). CONCLUSION DWI does not reveal probable parenchymal alterations in reflux nephropathy. ADC values increase with age during childhood not only in normal kidneys but also in kidneys with VUR.

Abstract
A new mononuclear cationic platinum(II) coordination compound with 6,6'-bis(NH-benzimidazol-2-yl)-2,2'-bipyridine (L) ligand having N4-tetradentate binding pocket [Pt(L)]Cl2·2H2O (Complex 1) was synthesized and characterized by FT-IR(ATR), UV-vis, 1H NMR, APCI and MALDI MS, and CHN analysis. The antigrowth effect of Complex 1 was tested in breast cancer (MDA-MB-231), lung cancer (A549), colorectal cancer (HCT-116), prostate cancer (PC-3) cell lines, and bronchial epithelial cell line (BEAS-2B) by the SRB and ATP cell viability assays. Apoptosis was detected with Annexin V, mitopotential, BCL-2 inactivation, and γH2AX assays by flow cytometry. Complex 1 was found to have cytotoxic activity of MDA-MB-231, A549, HCT-116, and PC-3 cancer cell lines in a dose-dependent manner for 48 h. Complex 1 has been found to cause cell death through different mechanisms depending on the type of cancer. The findings indicated that complex induced intrinsic apoptosis with the increased mitochondrial membrane depolarization level, Bcl-2 inactivation, and DNA damage in PC-3 and A549 cell lines.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Studies about the pathogenesis of bronchial hyperreactivity (BHR) in patients with persistent allergic rhinitis (PAR) and its relationship with lower airway remodeling are extremely limited. OBJECTIVE This study evaluated bronchial vascular remodeling via the measurement of angiogenic factor, vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A), and anti-angiogenic factor, Endostatin, and evaluated their relationship with BHR in patients with PAR. METHODS The study group consisted of 30 patients with PAR monosensitized to house dust mites and 14 non-allergic healthy controls. All subjects underwent induced sputum and methacholine (M) bronchial provocation tests. VEGF-A and Endostatin levels were measured by ELISA in induced sputum supernatants. RESULTS The percentages of eosinophils in induced sputum were significantly increased in patients with PAR compared with healthy controls. There were no significant differences between patients with PAR and healthy controls in terms of levels of VEGF (37.9pg/ml, min-max: 5-373pg/ml vs. 24.9, min-max: 8-67pg/ml, p=0.8 respectively), Endostatin (532.5pg/ml, min-max: 150-2125pg/ml vs. 644, min-max: 223-1123pg/ml, p=0.2 respectively) and VEGF/Endostatin ratio (0.057 vs. 0.045, p=0.8 respectively). In addition, there were no significant differences between patients who are BHR positive (n=8), or negative to M (n=22) in terms of levels of VEGF, Endostatin and VEGF/Endostatin ratio and no correlations among value of PD20 to M and levels of VEGF, Endostatin and VEGF/Endostatin ratio. CONCLUSION We conclude that VEGF-A and Endostatin did not differ between patients with PAR and healthy controls regardless of BHR to M.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Although squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) originating from different anatomic localizations display a similar histological appearance under light microscopy, they may differ in terms of epigenetic and genetic features. The aim of this study was to analyze mir-126, mir-182, and mir-486-5p expression levels in head and neck SCCs and lung SCCs, and to identify localization-specific miRNA expression profiles. MATERIAL AND METHOD The expression levels of mir-126, mir-182, and mir-486-5p were analyzed in lung, oral cavity, laryngeal, and hypopharyngeal SCCs in 40 patients, using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS The findings showed that lung, oral cavity, laryngeal, and hypopharyngeal SCCs have distinct mir-126 and mir-486-5p expression profiles. It was also observed that mir-126 and mir-486-5p expression levels were highly specific to the tumor localization. CONCLUSION These findings highlighted that SCCs originating from different anatomic localizations have different miRNA expression profiles. miRNA expression analysis can be used to predict the primary localizations of those SCCs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Esophagojejunostomy (EJ) is frequently performed after total gastrectomy for proximal gastric tumors. Despite evolving surgical techniques and improving perioperative care, the EJ leak is one of the most severe life-threatening complications. This study investigated the preventability of postoperative anastomotic complications by performing intraoperative endoscopy. METHODS We included 86 patients who underwent total gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y esophagojejunostomy anastomosis in the study. Patients were divided into two groups and analyzed retrospectively. Group 1 consisted of 43 patients who did not undergo intraoperative endoscopy between 2017 and 2019, and Group 2 included 43 patients who underwent intraoperative endoscopy between 2019 and 2020. RESULTS Esophagojejunostomy anastomotic leak (EAL) was observed in 2.3 % of patients in Group 1 but not in Group 2. Anastomosis-related abnormal findings (anastomotic defect, bleeding, air leak, mucosal separation) were recorded in seven patients of Group 2 during endoscopy. When such findings were observed, additional full-thickness sutures were placed on the anastomosis line and strengthened. Complication related to anastomosis was not observed in the postoperative period in Group 2. DISCUSSION After a total gastrectomy, the most severe complication affecting mortality, morbidity, and consequently the cost of the disease is esophagojejunal anastomotic leakage. Most of these complications are induced by technical errors not noticed during surgery. The crucial advantage of performing intraoperative endoscopy is the technically detailed evaluation of anastomosis. CONCLUSION Intraoperative endoscopy is a safe method to evaluate the strength of anastomosis. This procedure provides detailed information regarding anastomotic integrity. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Primary anorectal melanomas (AMs) are uncommon neoplasms with aggressive behavior. Molecular profile and clinicopathologic features of AMs are still not well established. In this study, we aimed to investigate BRAF, NRAS, KIT, TERT, and GNAQ/GNA11 mutation status and clinicopathologic features of AMs. MATERIAL AND METHOD All diagnostic slides of 15 AMs were reviewed. Histopathological and follow-up information were documented. Mutations in exon 15 of the BRAF gene; exons 2 and 3 of the NRAS gene; exons 9, 11, 13, 17, and 18 of the KIT gene; and exons 4 and 5 of the GNAQ/GNA11 genes and mutations in the promoter region of the TERT gene (chr.5, 1,295,228C > T and 1,295,250C > T) were analyzed. RESULTS BRAF(V600E) and KIT(V555I and K642E) mutations were observed in one (7%) and two cases (14%), respectively. NRAS, TERT and GNAQ/GNA11 mutations were not detected. The mean age was 65. Patients presented with rectal mass, rectal bleeding, pain, and weight loss. 73% of the lesions were macroscopically polypoid. The most common tumor cell type was epithelioid. Mean tumor thickness was 10.4 mm. One third of the cases lacked pigmentation. In situ melanoma was present in one third of the cases. Among 14 patients with follow-up data, 12 succumbed to disease. The mean overall survival was 36 months. CONCLUSION AMs are uncommon tumors with dismal survival, usually occurring in the elderly in various gross and microscopic appearances. In terms of molecular profile, BRAF and KIT mutations are rarely detected. Profiling of larger cohorts is required to elucidate the pathogenesis and to identify potential molecular indicators that may contribute to the development of individualized targeted therapies.
