Abstract
This evidence- and consensus-based guideline was developed following the methods recommended by Cochrane and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) working group. The conference was held on 1 December 2016. It is a joint initiative of the Dermatology Section of the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), the EU-founded network of excellence, the Global Allergy and Asthma European Network (GA²LEN), the European Dermatology Forum (EDF) and the World Allergy Organization (WAO) with the participation of 48 delegates of 42 national and international societies. This guideline was acknowledged and accepted by the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS). Urticaria is a frequent, mast cell-driven disease, presenting with wheals, angioedema, or both. The lifetime prevalence for acute urticaria is approximately 20%. Chronic spontaneous urticaria and other chronic forms of urticaria are disabling, impair quality of life and affect performance at work and school. This guideline covers the definition and classification of urticaria, taking into account the recent progress in identifying its causes, eliciting factors and pathomechanisms. In addition, it outlines evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for the different subtypes of urticaria.

Abstract
This guideline is the result of a systematic literature review using the 'Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation' (GRADE) methodology and a structured consensus conference held on 28 and 29 November 2012, in Berlin. It is a joint initiative of the Dermatology Section of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), the EU-funded network of excellence, the Global Allergy and Asthma European Network (GA(2) LEN), the European Dermatology Forum (EDF), and the World Allergy Organization (WAO) with the participation of delegates of 21 national and international societies. Urticaria is a frequent, mast cell-driven disease, presenting with wheals, angioedema, or both. The life-time prevalence for acute urticaria is approximately 20%. Chronic spontaneous urticaria and other chronic forms of urticaria do not only cause a decrease in quality of life, but also affect performance at work and school and, as such, are members of the group of severe allergic diseases. This guideline covers the definition and classification of urticaria, taking into account the recent progress in identifying its causes, eliciting factors and pathomechanisms. In addition, it outlines evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for the different subtypes of urticaria. Abstract
We have conducted a genome screen of autism, by linkage analysis in an initial set of 90 multiplex sibships, with parents, containing 97 independent affected sib pairs (ASPs), with follow-up in 49 additional multiplex sibships, containing 50 ASPs. In total, 519 markers were genotyped, including 362 for the initial screen, and an additional 157 were genotyped in the follow-up. As a control, we also included in the analysis unaffected sibs, which provided 51 discordant sib pairs (DSPs) for the initial screen and 29 for the follow-up. In the initial phase of the work, we observed increased identity by descent (IBD) in the ASPs (sharing of 51.6%) compared with the DSPs (sharing of 50.8%). The excess sharing in the ASPs could not be attributed to the effect of a small number of loci but, rather, was due to the modest increase in the entire distribution of IBD. These results are most compatible with a model specifying a large number of loci (perhaps >/=15) and are less compatible with models specifying </=10 loci. The largest LOD score obtained in the initial scan was for a marker on chromosome 1p; this region also showed positive sharing in the replication family set, giving a maximum multipoint LOD score of 2.15 for both sets combined. Thus, there may exist a gene of moderate effect in this region. We had only modestly positive or negative linkage evidence in candidate regions identified in other studies. Our results suggest that positional cloning of susceptibility loci by linkage analysis may be a formidable task and that other approaches may be necessary.

Abstract
Difficulties in distinguishing organisms of the "Streptococcus milleri group" (SMG; Streptococcus intermedius, Streptococcus constellatus, and Streptococcus anginosus), have caused ambiguity in determining their pathogenic potential. We reviewed 118 cases in which SMG isolates had been identified using 16S rDNA sequence. S. constellatus and S. anginosus were isolated far more frequently than was S. intermedius. Nearly all isolates of S. intermedius and most isolates of S. constellatus, but only 19% of those of S. anginosus, were associated with abscess. Our findings suggest that speciation of the SMG may guide diagnostic evaluation, give insight into the possible role of coinfecting organisms, and help assess the need to search for occult abscess.

Abstract
To make large-scale association studies a reality, automated high-throughput methods for genotyping with single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are needed. We describe PCR conditions that permit the use of the TaqMan or 5' nuclease allelic discrimination assay for typing large numbers of individuals with any SNP and computational methods that allow genotypes to be assigned automatically. To demonstrate the utility of these methods, we typed >1600 individuals for a G-to-T transversion that results in a glutamate-to-aspartate substitution at position 298 in the endothelial nitric oxide synthase gene, and a G/C polymorphism (newly identified in our laboratory) in intron 8 of the 11-beta hydroxylase gene. The genotyping method is accurate-we estimate an error rate of fewer than 1 in 2000 genotypes, rapid-with five 96-well PCR machines, one fluorescent reader, and no automated pipetting, over one thousand genotypes can be generated by one person in one day, and flexible-a new SNP can be tested for association in less than one week. Indeed, large-scale genotyping has been accomplished for 23 other SNPs in 13 different genes using this method. In addition, we identified three "pseudo-SNPs" (WIAF1161, WIAF2566, and WIAF335) that are probably a result of duplication.

Abstract
Five hundred and eighty-five patients with moderate asthma, currently receiving 400-1000 micrograms day-1 of an inhaled corticosteroid, were treated for 6 weeks in a double-blind, randomized, parallel group study with either 500 micrograms day-1 fluticasone propionate as a dry powder via a Diskhaler inhaler, 500 micrograms day-1 fluticasone propionate via a pressurized inhaler or 1000 micrograms day-1 beclomethasone dipropionate via a pressurized inhaler. For all three treatment groups, mean morning and evening peak expiratory flow rates (PEFRs) increased within 1 week of the start of treatment. There were also improvements in clinic lung function, daytime and night-time asthma symptoms and a reduction in daytime and night-time rescue bronchodilator medication in all three groups. There were no statistically significant differences between the two formulations of fluticasone propionate in any of the efficacy parameters. Fluticasone propionate via the Diskhaler was significantly more effective than beclomethasone dipropionate over the 6 week study period in reducing diurnal variation (mean difference--4 l min-1, 95% CI--8 to 0 l min-1: P = 0.03). Fluticasone propionate via the Diskhaler produced a statistically significant improvement in night-time symptoms when compared to beclomethasone dipropionate whereas, beclomethasone dipropionate 1000 micrograms day-1 was statistically significantly more effective than both formulations of fluticasone propionate in improving daytime symptoms (P < 0.05). However, these statistical differences must be viewed together with the fact that very few patients recorded a score of 2 or more for both daytime or night-time symptoms. There was a similarly low incidence of adverse events with all three treatments with no evidence of hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA)-axis suppression. The results of the 6-week comparative study showed that 500 micrograms day-1 fluticasone propionate whether administered via pressurized inhaler or Diskhaler is as effective and as safe as 1000 micrograms day-1 beclomethasone dipropionate administered via a pressurized inhaler in the treatment of moderate asthma. Over 12 months fluticasone propionate 500 micrograms day-1 via a pressurized inhaler was at least as effective and as well tolerated as beclomethasone dipropionate 1000 micrograms day-1.

Abstract
all-trans-Retinoic acid is known to bind to the retinoic acid receptors (RARs) resulting in an increase in their transcriptional activity. In contrast, recently identified 9-cis-retinoic acid (9-cis-RA), which is an additional endogenous RA isomer, is capable of binding to both RARs and retinoid X receptors (RXRs). These distinct properties have raised questions as to the biological role governed by these two retinoic acid isomers and the set of target genes that they regulate. Herein, we report the synthesis of high specific activity [3H]-9-cis-RA and its application to study the ligand-binding properties of the various retinoid receptor subtypes. We examined the binding properties of RARs and RXRs for a series of synthetic retinoids and compared the ligand-binding properties of these arotinoid analogs with their ability to regulate gene expression via the retinoid receptors in a cotransfection assay. The utilization of the [3H]-9-cis-RA competitive binding assay and the cotransfection assay has made it possible to rapidly identify important structural features of retinoids leading to increased selectivity for either the RAR or RXR receptor subtypes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Therapy with intravenous unfractionated heparin improves clinical outcome in patients with active thromboembolic disease, but achieving and maintaining a therapeutic level of anticoagulation remains a major challenge for clinicians. METHODS A total of 113 patients requiring heparin for at least 48 hours were randomly assigned at 7 medical centers to either weight-adjusted or non-weight-adjusted dose titration. They were separately assigned to either laboratory-based or point-of-care (bedside) coagulation monitoring. RESULTS Weight-adjusted heparin dosing yielded a higher mean activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) value 6 hours after treatment initiation than non-weight-adjusted dosing (99.9 vs 78.8 seconds; P =.002) and reduced the time required to exceed a minimum threshold (aPTT >45 seconds) of anticoagulation (10.5 vs 8.6 hours; P =.002). Point-of-care coagulation monitoring significantly reduced the time from blood sample acquisition to a heparin infusion adjustment (0.4 vs 1.6 hours; P <.0001) and to reach the therapeutic aPTT range (51 to 80 seconds) (16.1 vs 19.4 hours; P =.24) compared with laboratory monitoring. Although a majority of patients participating in the study surpassed the minimum threshold of anticoagulation within the first 12 hours and reached the target aPTT within 24 hours, maintaining the aPTT within the therapeutic range was relatively uncommon (on average 30% of the overall study period) and did not differ between treatment or monitoring strategies. CONCLUSIONS Weight-adjusted heparin dosing according to a standardized titration nomogram combined with point-of-care coagulation monitoring using the BMC Coaguchek Plus System represents an effective and widely generalizable strategy for managing patients with thromboembolic disease that fosters the rapid achievement of a desired range of anticoagulation. Additional work is needed, however, to improve on existing patient-specific strategies that can more effectively sustain a therapeutic state of anticoagulation.

Abstract
The preparation of o-nitrophenylethylene glycol is described along with its application as a photolabile protective group for aldehydes and ketones. Formation of the acetals and ketals is achieved in good to high yields in the usual manner and deprotection is carried out in fair to high yield, by photolysis at 350 nm in an inert solvent such as benzene. Because of the particular nature of the present protective group, its stability to basic and acidic conditions has been examined and is reported to complete the scope and limitations aspect. From a mechanistic point of view, the isolation and characterization of o-nitroso-α-hydroxyacetophenone as the spent reagent demonstrates a mechanistic link with the known o-nitrobenzaldehyde to o-nitrosobenzoic acid photorearrangement.

Abstract
The objective of the present study was to compare the incorporation of different types of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids into thigh muscle lipids of poultry. Nine groups of broiler chicks were fed diets supplemented with three levels (1.0, 2.5, and 5.0%) of either corn, linseed, or menhaden oil. Birds supplemented with linseed oil, rich in linolenic acid (C18:3n-3), had significantly higher levels of n-3 fatty acids and higher n-3:n-6 ratios than those supplemented with the same level of menhaden oil, primarily due to an accumulation of C18:3n-3. Levels of eicosapentaenoic acid (C20:5n-3) were increased (P less than .05), compared with the controls fed the same level of corn oil, in the groups fed the two higher levels of linseed oil, and in all the groups fed menhaden oil. Linolenic acid is less susceptible to auto-oxidation, and is less likely to impart an off-flavor to the muscle. Thus, if it is desirable to increase the n-3:n-6 ratio in poultry, seed meals or oils with a high content of C18:3n-3 could be used in poultry feeds.

Abstract
Mometasone furoate (MF) administered by dry powder inhaler (DPI) was composed with budesonide (BUD) Turbuhaler in the treatment of moderate persistent asthma. The patients were randomized to one of four treatment groups: MF DPI (100, 200, 400 microg b.i.d) or BUD Turbuhaler. 400 microg b.i.d in a 12-week, active-controlled, evaluator-blind, multicentre international trial. The primary efficacy variable was the mean change from baseline to endpoint (last treatment visit) in forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1). Changes in FEV1 showed a statistically significant superiority (p<0.05) of MF DPI 200 and 400 microg b.i.d compared with the BUD Turbuhaler 400 microg b.i.d treatment. Significant superiority (p<0.05) was also seen in scores for several secondary efficacy variables when MF DPI was compared with BUD Turbuhaler treatment. MF DPI 200 microg b.i.d was comparable to MF DPI 400 microg b.i.d in therapeutic benefit. The incidence of oral candidiasis was no more than 3% in any group. All treatments were well tolerated. A total daily dose of 400 microg of mometasone furoate administered by dry powder inhaler provides a well-tolerated treatment for patients with moderate persistent asthma and results in a significantly greater improvement, when compared to a daily dose of 800 microg BUD Turbuhaler in the parameters measured in this study.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to determine the mechanistic basis for thrombin generation and increased prothrombotic potential after the abrupt cessation of intravenous (i.v.) unfractionated heparin among patients with acute coronary syndromes. BACKGROUND A "rebound" increase in prothrombotic potential has been observed biochemically and clinically after the abrupt cessation of unfractionated heparin (UFH) among patients with acute coronary syndromes. Although the mechanism is unknown, tissue factor and the extrinsic coagulation cascade, both operative in atherosclerotic vascular disease and arterial thrombosis, are thought to be centrally involved. METHODS In a single-center, pilot study, 30 patients with either unstable angina or non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction who had received a continuous i.v. infusion of UFH for 48 h were randomly assigned to: 1) abrupt cessation, 2) i.v. weaning over 12 h or 3) subcutaneous weaning over 12 h. RESULTS Thrombin generation (prothrombin fragment 1.2) was evident within 1 h of UFH cessation, increased progressively (by nearly two-fold) at 24 h (p = 0.002) and correlated inversely with tissue factor pathway inhibitor concentration (r = -0.61). Thrombin generation was greatest among patients randomized to abrupt cessation (1.6-fold increase at 24 h) and least in those with i.v. weaning. CONCLUSIONS Thrombin generation after the abrupt cessation of UFH may represent a drug-induced impairment of physiologic vascular thromboresistance in response to locally generated tissue factor. A dosing strategy of abbreviated i.v. weaning attenuates but does not prevent heparin rebound among patients with acute coronary syndromes.

Abstract
Recent studies have found the tryptophan allele of a glycine to tryptophan polymorphism at position 460 (G460W) of the alpha-adducin protein to be associated with essential hypertension in European populations. We examined whether the tryptophan allele is associated with hypertension in a different population, comprised of subjects of Chinese origin from Taiwan, and Chinese and Japanese origin from the San Francisco Bay area and Hawaii. We adapted the 5' allelic discrimination assay or TaqMan to type individuals for the G460W polymorphism, and using this method we typed more than 1000 individuals. The frequency of the W allele was slightly increased in the treated subjects in the Chinese population (0.458 v 0.423) but not the Japanese population (0.549 v 0.558). We considered dominant, recessive, and additive models in our analysis. There was a significant result for a recessive model for systolic blood pressure in the Chinese population (chi2 6.84, df = 2, P < .05), but only suggestive evidence for diastolic blood pressure (chi2 3.30). In contrast, in the Japanese population, there was no evidence for a positive association under any model. For the combined Chinese and Japanese samples, the evidence for association with alpha-adducin was not significant.

Abstract
A total of 317 patients received loratadine, 10 mg once daily, terfenadine 60 mg twice daily, or placebo in a 14-day, double-blind, randomized study in seasonal allergic rhinitis. Four nasal and four nonnasal symptoms were evaluated. At the end point evaluation, mean total scores of combined nasal and nonnasal symptoms decreased from baseline (improved) 46%, 44%, and 35%, respectively, for loratadine, terfenadine, and placebo. The difference between loratadine and placebo treatment was significant (p = 0.03). Loratadine was particularly effective compared with placebo in relieving nasal discharge, sneezing, and itching/burning eyes. Therapeutic response to treatment was good or excellent in 66 (64%) of 103 loratadine-treated patients, 58 (56%) of 104 terfenadine-treated patients, and 48 (47%) of 102 placebo-treated patients. Adverse experiences reported during the study were usually mild or moderate and were not significantly different among the three treatment groups. Sedation (somnolence) was reported by 10 loratadine-treated patients, seven terfenadine-treated patients, and eight placebo-treated patients. Loratadine, 10 mg once daily, was comparable to terfenadine, 60 mg twice daily, and significantly superior to placebo in the symptomatic relief of seasonal allergic rhinitis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Several studies implicate polymorphisms in the human beta-adrenergic receptor gene (ADRB2) in the susceptibility to hypertension. We sought to replicate these results in a population of Chinese origin primarily from Taiwan and the San Francisco Bay area. METHODS We genotyped >800 hypertensive subjects and individuals with low-normal blood pressure that were derived largely from the same families as the hypertensive patients for three polymorphisms in the ADRB2 gene: a C/T transition at position 47 (C-47T) in the 5' leader cistron; another C/T transition that results in a glycine/ arginine substitution at codon 16 (Gly16Arg), and a G/C transversion that causes a glutamate/glutamine substitution at codon 27 (Glu27Gln). RESULTS The Gly16Arg was significantly associated with hypertension (P < .03). Under a dominant model, for hypertension the relative risk for the Gly/Gly and Gly/Arg genotypes versus the Arg/Arg genotype was 1.35 (95% confidence limits [CL] 1.08, 1.70); for low-normal blood pressure the relative risk was 0.79 (95% CL 0.66, 0.94). This polymorphism explained approximately 1% of the variance in systolic and diastolic blood pressures in our study population. There was no evidence of association between the C-47T and Glu27Gln polymorphisms and hypertension in this population. CONCLUSIONS The Glyl6 allele in the beta2-adrenergic receptor gene is a susceptibility allele for essential hypertension in a population of Chinese origin.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Targeted health promotion requires an identifiable subpopulation which is accessible, at increased risk, receptive to input, and receptive to change. Relatives of recently diagnosed cancer patients may meet these criteria and have not previously been investigated as recipients of preventive education regarding smoking and diet. METHODS This study investigates these factors, beliefs regarding perceived susceptibility to cancer, and attitudes toward behavior change in 101 relatives of 50 patients with smoking-related cancers, breast cancer, and other diet-related cancers. Congruence of attitudes between patients and relatives, another possible factor in changing health behaviors, also was assessed. RESULTS Access to relatives of patients was very high, as was their willingness to discuss these issues (99% of relatives contacted participated in the survey). Relatives' ratings of relevant risk factors were generally higher than those of patients; ratings of their own vulnerability were moderate. Within diagnostic groups, there was high concordance of belief between patients and relatives for certain types of risk, such as heredity for breast cancer (r = 0.81) and smoking for smoking-related cancers (r = 0.52), but not for dietary factors. CONCLUSIONS The high level of access suggests that relatives may be receptive to discussing issues of behavior risk and change. They are at least as aware as patients of cancer risk factors. Spontaneous behavior change was very low. They may therefore be good candidates for targeted health promotion regarding cancer risk.

Abstract
Fragments of human lung parenchyma or bronchi were studied by high performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and bioassay for the biosynthesis of 5-lipoxygenase metabolites of arachidonic acid, and by radioenzymatic assay for the release of histamine, upon immunologic and nonimmunologic stimulation. Human lung parenchyma were passively sensitized with serum from timothy-positive allergic patients (radioallergosorbent test, 30-40%) and challenged with 0.5 microgram/ml of timothy allergen. Analysis of the incubation media showed the presence of LTB4, LTC4, LTD4, LTE4, and histamine. Maximum release of LTB4 and LTD4 was observed after 15 min of challenge (92.8 +/- 21, and 67.8 +/- 14 pmol/g tissue wet weight, respectively; mean +/- SEM) whereas maximum release of LTC4 was observed after 5 min of challenge (25 +/- 7.1 pmol). In parallel to leukotriene formation, histamine was released rapidly and reached a maximum after approximately 15 min of challenge (2.85 +/- 0.76 nmol/g tissue). When fragments of human lung parenchyma were stimulated with ionophore A23187 (4 microM), we observed a profile of leukotriene and histamine release similar to that seen in response to the allergen. Ionophore A23187 stimulated the release of two- to fivefold greater amounts of leukotrienes and histamine than did the allergen. Release of LTC4 and histamine was maximal after 5 min of stimulation (83 +/- 22.2 and 5.2 +/- 0.95 nmol/g tissue, respectively), whereas LTB4 and LTD4 release reached a maximum after 15 min (438 +/- 66.6 and 205 +/- 68 nmol/g tissue, respectively). In addition, human lung parenchyma metabolized LTB4 into omega-OH-LTB4 and omega-COOH-LTB4. This tissue also released 5-hydroxy-eicosatetraenoic acid (5-Hete), 12-Hete, and 15-Hete. Fragments of human lung bronchi also released a similar profile of leukotrienes (except LTC4) and histamine when challenged with the allergen or ionophore A23187. Maximum release of LTB4 and LTD4 by allergen or ionophore stimulation was observed after approximately 15 min (40 +/- 7.5 and 21 +/- 8 pmol/g tissue, respectively, upon allergen challenge; 100 +/- 13 and 47 +/- 10.6 pmol/g tissue, respectively, upon ionophore stimulation). The maximum release of histamine by bronchi was observed after approximately 15 min of allergen challenge and 5 min of ionophore stimulation (2.25 +/- 0.65 and 3.15 +/- 0.9 nmol/g tissue, respectively). The release of leukotrienes but not of histamine by human lung parenchyma upon both allergen and ionophore challenge was inhibited by nordihydroguaiaretic acid (NDGA) (ID50, 2 X 10(-6)M).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 400 WORDS)

Abstract
The kidney, by regulating the volume of fluid in the body, plays a key role in regulating blood pressure (BP). The kidney uses primarily sodium and, to a lesser extent, urea to maintain the appropriate volume of fluid. Genetic variation in proteins that determine sodium reabsorption and excretion is known to significantly influence BP. However, the influence of genetic variation in urea transporters on BP has not been examined. We determined therefore whether nucleotide variation in the kidney-specific human urea transporter, HUT2, is associated with variation in BP. After determining the genomic structure of the coding sequence, seven single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified. Two of the SNPs result in Val/Ile and Ala/Thr amino acid substitutions at positions 227 and 357 in the HUT2 open reading frame, respectively. Another SNP is silent and four others are in introns or the 3' untranslated region. Over 1000 hypertensive and low-normotensive individuals of Chinese origin were typed for five of these SNPs using a high-throughput genotyping method. The Ile227 and Ala357 alleles were associated with low diastolic BP in men but not women, with odds ratios 2.1 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.5-2.7, P < 0.001] and 1.5 (95% CI 1.2-1.8, P < 0.001), respectively. There was a similar trend for systolic BP, and odds ratios for the Ile227 and Ala357 alleles were 1.7 (95% CI 1.2-2.3, P = 0.002) and 1.3 (95% CI 1.1-1.6, P = 0.007), respectively, in men.

Abstract
The GATA2 gene encodes a zinc-finger transcription factor that acts as a master regulator of normal hematopoiesis. Mutations in GATA2 have been implicated in the development of myelodysplastic syndrome and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Using RNA sequencing we now report that GATA2 is either mutated with a functional consequence, or expressed at low levels in the majority of normal karyotype AML (NK-AML). We also show that low-GATA2-expressing specimens (GATA2(low)) exhibit allele-specific expression (ASE) (skewing) in more than half of AML patients examined. We demonstrate that the hypermethylation of the silenced allele can be reversed by exposure to demethylating agents, which also restores biallelic expression of GATA2. We show that GATA2(low) AML lack the prototypical R882 mutation in DNMT3A frequently observed in NK-AML patients and that The Cancer Genome Atlas AML specimens with DNMT3A R882 mutations are characterized by CpG hypomethylation of GATA2. Finally, we validate that several known missense single-nucleotide polymorphisms in GATA2 are actually loss-of-function variants, which, when combined with ASE, represent the equivalent of homozygous GATA2 mutations. From a broader perspective, this work suggests for the first time that determinants of ASE likely have a key role in human leukemia.

Abstract
The National Cancer Institute's '5-a-Day for Better Health Campaign is examining the efficacy of interventions in increasing the consumption of fruits and vegetables to five or more servings a day. This paper presents the study design, intervention and baseline survey results of the Treatwell 5-a-Day project, a randomized, controlled worksite-based intervention study. Twenty-two community health centers were randomly assigned to either a Minimal Intervention, Worksite Intervention or Worksite Plus Family Intervention. The Worksite Intervention included participation of employee advisory boards, programs aimed at individual behavior change and programs aimed at changes in the worksite environment. The Worksite Plus Family Intervention incorporated family-focused interventions into the worksite program, including a learn-at-home program, family newsletter, family festival and materials mailings. A self-administered survey was conducted prior to randomization (mean response rate: 87%, n = 1359). Twenty-three percent reported consuming five or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Consumption of fruits and vegetables was directly associated with level of household support for healthy eating. The Treatwell 5-a-Day intervention model has the potential to enhance existing worksite-based intervention through incorporation of its family focus, especially given the association of household support with individual eating habits.

Abstract
This study was designed to assess the possible immunological responses in mice against polyester prostheses coated with albumin and previously stabilized either with cross-linked glutaraldehyde (GA), at different concentrations, or with carbodiimide (CDI). Prosthetic discs were first implanted in the peritoneal cavities of mice, and T cells and T cell subsets (helper, suppressor, la-bearing T lymphocytes) were then quantified before implantation and at 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks post-implantation. The percentages of T cells, subsets, and the helper/suppressor cell ratio, as well as the percentage of T cells with la receptors, were similar to the control in all experimental groups. No significant difference and no correlation were observed between the groups wherever tested. Virgin and albumin-coated grafts did not induce any quantitative changes in T cell subpopulations in mice.
