Prognostic value of serial coronary computed tomography angiography-derived perivascular fat-attenuation index and plaque volume in patients with suspected coronary artery disease. Clin Radiol 2024:S0009-9260(24)00198-3. [PMID: 38755080 DOI: 10.1016/j.crad.2024.04.007] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 12/28/2023] [Revised: 04/04/2024] [Accepted: 04/16/2024] [Indexed: 05/18/2024]
Abstract
AIMS To investigate the prognostic value of serial coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) derived plaque information, fractional flow reserve (CT-FFR), and perivascular fat-attenuation index (FAI) on major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in patients with suspected coronary artery disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 252 patients who underwent serial CCTA between January 2018 and December 2021 and were followed until June 2022. MACE were recorded. The analysis indexes included percent diameter stenosis (%DS), lesion length, plaque volume, CT-FFR, and FAI, with an emphasis on their changes between the baseline and follow-up CCTAs. Multivariate regression analysis were employed to identify independent risk factors for MACE. RESULTS After a median follow-up of 48-month, MACE occurred in 32 patients (12.7%). Patients with MACE displayed more severe stenosis, longer lesions, and larger plaque volumes in both baseline and follow-up CCTAs compared with no-MACE patients (all P<0.05). Patients with MACE displayed more severe stenosis, longer lesion, and larger plaque volume in both baseline and follow-up CCTAs compared with no-MACE patients. In addition, MACE patients also showed lower CT-FFR and higher △CT-FFR. Although FAI was significantly higher in MACE patients at baseline CCTA, FAI was notably increased in MACE patients, and decreased in the no-MACE patients (all P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that ΔFAI, %DS, and plaque volume were independent predictors of MACE, with ΔFAI being the most significant (OR: 16.725, P<0.000). A multivariable model showed a significantly improved C-index of 0.903 (95% confidence interval: 0.836-0.970) for MACE prediction, when compared with single index alone. CONCLUSIONS Serial CCTA-derived ΔFAI, %DS, and plaque volume are crucial independent predictors of MACE in patients with suspected coronary artery disease, highlighting the importance of CCTA in patient risk stratification and prognostic assessment.

Abstract
This Letter presents the first study of Higgs boson production in association with a vector boson (V=W or Z) in the fully hadronic qqbb final state using data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb^{-1}. The vector bosons and Higgs bosons are each reconstructed as large-radius jets and tagged using jet substructure techniques. Dedicated tagging algorithms exploiting b-tagging properties are used to identify jets consistent with Higgs bosons decaying into bb[over ¯]. Dominant backgrounds from multijet production are determined directly from the data, and a likelihood fit to the jet mass distribution of Higgs boson candidates is used to extract the number of signal events. The VH production cross section is measured inclusively and differentially in several ranges of Higgs boson transverse momentum: 250-450, 450-650, and greater than 650 GeV. The inclusive signal yield relative to the standard model expectation is observed to be μ=1.4_{-0.9}^{+1.0} and the corresponding cross section is 3.1±1.3(stat)_{-1.4}^{+1.8}(syst) pb.

Measurement of the Centrality Dependence of the Dijet Yield in p+Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=8.16 TeV with the ATLAS Detector. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2024; 132:102301. Abstract
ATLAS measured the centrality dependence of the dijet yield using 165 nb^{-1} of p+Pb data collected at sqrt[s_{NN}]=8.16 TeV in 2016. The event centrality, which reflects the p+Pb impact parameter, is characterized by the total transverse energy registered in the Pb-going side of the forward calorimeter. The central-to-peripheral ratio of the scaled dijet yields, R_{CP}, is evaluated, and the results are presented as a function of variables that reflect the kinematics of the initial hard parton scattering process. The R_{CP} shows a scaling with the Bjorken x of the parton originating from the proton, x_{p}, while no such trend is observed as a function of x_{Pb}. This analysis provides unique input to understanding the role of small proton spatial configurations in p+Pb collisions by covering parton momentum fractions from the valence region down to x_{p}∼10^{-3} and x_{Pb}∼4×10^{-4}.

Abstract
Searches for new resonances are performed using an unsupervised anomaly-detection technique. Events with at least one electron or muon are selected from 140 fb^{-1} of pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV recorded by ATLAS at the Large Hadron Collider. The approach involves training an autoencoder on data, and subsequently defining anomalous regions based on the reconstruction loss of the decoder. Studies focus on nine invariant mass spectra that contain pairs of objects consisting of one light jet or b jet and either one lepton (e,μ), photon, or second light jet or b jet in the anomalous regions. No significant deviations from the background hypotheses are observed. Limits on contributions from generic Gaussian signals with various widths of the resonance mass are obtained for nine invariant masses in the anomalous regions.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of WZγ production and a measurement of its cross section using 140.1±1.2 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The WZγ production cross section, with both the W and Z bosons decaying leptonically, pp→WZγ→ℓ^{'}^{±}νℓ^{+}ℓ^{-}γ (ℓ^{(^{'})}=e, μ), is measured in a fiducial phase-space region defined such that the leptons and the photon have high transverse momentum and the photon is isolated. The cross section is found to be 2.01±0.30(stat)±0.16(syst) fb. The corresponding standard model predicted cross section calculated at next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics and at leading order in the electroweak coupling constant is 1.50±0.06 fb. The observed significance of the WZγ signal is 6.3σ, compared with an expected significance of 5.0σ.

Abstract
A search for events with a dark photon produced in association with a dark Higgs boson via rare decays of the standard model Z boson is presented, using 139 fb^{-1} of sqrt[s]=13 TeV proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The dark boson decays into a pair of dark photons, and at least two of the three dark photons must each decay into a pair of electrons or muons, resulting in at least two same-flavor opposite-charge lepton pairs in the final state. The data are found to be consistent with the background prediction, and upper limits are set on the dark photon's coupling to the dark Higgs boson times the kinetic mixing between the standard model photon and the dark photon, α_{D}ϵ^{2}, in the dark photon mass range of [5, 40] GeV except for the ϒ mass window [8.8, 11.1] GeV. This search explores new parameter space not previously excluded by other experiments.

Abstract
The study was aimed to analyze the seasonal pollen allergen spectrum of patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) in Nanchang city, and to provide evidence for improving the clinical diagnosis, treatment, prevention and epidemiology of seasonal AR. A retrospective analysis was conducted on the results of skin prick test (SPT) among 1 752 patients with AR in outpatient at Department of Otolaryngology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from September 2020 to August 2021 (a total of 1 069 males and 683 females, age ranged from 2 to 84 years old). SPSS 22.0 software was used to analyze the positive rates of main allergens and their differences in gender, age, and month of visit. Differences among groups were compared by student t test, Wilcox rank sum test, or χ2 test. The results showed that among 1 752 SPT-positive patients, the number of simple seasonal AR and the number of perennial combined seasonal AR were 102 (5.82%) and 281 (16.04%), respectively. There was no significant difference between male and female patients in positive seasonal pollen allergens (χ2=2.181, P>0.05), but the positive rate of indoor seasonal pollen allergens in males was higher than that in females (χ2=7.901, P<0.05). The seasonal pollen allergens ranking top 5 of the positive rates were willow (6.62%, 116/1 752), humulus scandens (5.71%, 100/1 752), rape (5.54%, 97/1 752), grey pigweed (4.62%, 81/1 752) and birch (3.60%, 63/1 752). The positive rates of indoor and seasonal pollen allergens increased first and then decreased in different age groups, and the highest positive rates of seasonal pollen allergens were in the age group of 31-40 years old, with statistical significance compared with other groups (χ2=61.269, P<0.05). The seasonal allergen positive rate showed two peaks in time: March to May and September to November. The positive rate of pollen in spring was 60.27% (132/219), which was significantly higher than that in autumn (39.73%,87/219) (χ2=9.247, P<0.05). The positive rate of pollen combination in spring and autumn was 68.29% (112/164), which was significantly higher than that in spring and autumn alone (18.9%,31/164) and (12.8%, 21/164) (χ2=14.731, P<0.05). In summary, pollen allergy in Nanchang City cannot be ignored, accounting for more than 20% of the total number of AR. The incidence of seasonal AR in Nanchang City showed two peaks (March to May and September to November). The common allergens for seasonal AR in Nanchang City were willow, humulus scandens, rape, grey chenopods and birch.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Follow-up studies on auricular reconstruction procedures have reported postoperative complications; some of which can only be reversed with revision surgery. This study aims to provide a feasible surgical strategy based on the Nagata method for patients requiring secondary revision and verify mid-term aesthetic outcomes. METHODS Secondary auricular reconstructions based on the Nagata method were performed on seven patients seeking secondary revision between 2017 and 2021. Scores of a five-point Likert scale and artificial intelligence ratings based on convolutional nerve networks were used as outcome measures. RESULTS Five patients underwent complete two-stage ear reconstruction, and the other two patients underwent the first-stage microtia procedure only. Few complications were observed, except in Case 4; this patient required an additional minor surgery after frame exposure 6 weeks after the first-stage procedure. All revised ears showed clear anatomical structures, and all patients were satisfied with the aesthetic results. Statistical analysis showed a significant increase in postoperative versus preoperative scores by convolutional neural network models (p < 0.05). Cases 5 and 6, which involved projection surgeries only, had decreased artificial intelligence appearance scores postoperatively. CONCLUSION After adequate preoperative evaluation, secondary auricle reconstruction based on the Nagata method can achieve reliable aesthetic outcomes with few complications. Measurement of the Sensitivity of Two-Particle Correlations in pp Collisions to the Presence of Hard Scatterings. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:162301. Abstract
A key open question in the study of multiparticle production in high-energy pp collisions is the relationship between the "ridge"-i.e., the observed azimuthal correlations between particles in the underlying event that extend over all rapidities-and hard or semihard scattering processes. In particular, it is not known whether jets or their soft fragments are correlated with particles in the underlying event. To address this question, two-particle correlations are measured in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV using data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, with an integrated luminosity of 15.8 pb^{-1}, in two different configurations. In the first case, charged particles associated with jets are excluded from the correlation analysis, while in the second case, correlations are measured between particles within jets and charged particles from the underlying event. Second-order flow coefficients, v_{2}, are presented as a function of event multiplicity and transverse momentum. These measurements show that excluding particles associated with jets does not affect the measured correlations. Moreover, particles associated with jets do not exhibit any significant azimuthal correlations with the underlying event, ruling out hard processes contributing to the ridge.

Abstract
A search is made for potential ccc[over ¯]c[over ¯] tetraquarks decaying into a pair of charmonium states in the four muon final state using proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^{-1} recorded by the ATLAS experiment at LHC. Two decay channels, J/ψ+J/ψ→4μ and J/ψ+ψ(2S)→4μ, are studied. Backgrounds are estimated based on a hybrid approach involving Monte Carlo simulations and data-driven methods. Statistically significant excesses with respect to backgrounds dominated by the single parton scattering are seen in the di-J/ψ channel consistent with a narrow resonance at 6.9 GeV and a broader structure at lower mass. A statistically significant excess is also seen in the J/ψ+ψ(2S) channel. The fitted masses and decay widths of the structures are reported.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of τ-lepton-pair production in ultraperipheral lead-lead collisions Pb+Pb→Pb(γγ→ττ)Pb and constraints on the τ-lepton anomalous magnetic moment a_{τ}. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.44 nb^{-1} of LHC Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment in 2018. Selected events contain one muon from a τ-lepton decay, an electron or charged-particle track(s) from the other τ-lepton decay, little additional central-detector activity, and no forward neutrons. The γγ→ττ process is observed in Pb+Pb collisions with a significance exceeding 5 standard deviations and a signal strength of μ_{ττ}=1.03_{-0.05}^{+0.06} assuming the standard model value for a_{τ}. To measure a_{τ}, a template fit to the muon transverse-momentum distribution from τ-lepton candidates is performed, using a dimuon (γγ→μμ) control sample to constrain systematic uncertainties. The observed 95% confidence-level interval for a_{τ} is -0.057

Improvement of soil acidification and ammonium nitrogen content in tea plantations by long-term use of organic fertilizer. PLANT BIOLOGY (STUTTGART, GERMANY) 2023; 25:994-1008. Abstract
Soil acidification is common in some Chinese tea plantations, which seriously affected growth of tea trees. Hence, it is essential to explore soil remediation in acidified tea plantations for sustainable development of the tea industry. We sought to determine how different fertilizers affect acidified soil and their N transformation in tea plantations. Different fertilizers were used on acidified tea plantation soils for 4 years (2017-2021), and changes in soil pH, indices related to soil N transformation and tea yield were analysed to construct interaction networks of these indices and find which had the largest influence on fertilization. Long-term use of sheep manure reduced soil acidification, increased soil pH, enhanced the number and intensity of N-fixing and ammonifying bacteria, urease, protease, asparaginase and N-acetamide glucose ribosidase activity and nifH gene expression. This treatment reduced the number and intensity of soil nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria, nitrate reductase and nitrite reductase activity, while the expression of amoA-AOA, nirK, nirS, narG and nosZ in turn increased ammonium N content of the soil, reduced nitrate N content, and enhanced tea yield. Topsis index weight analysis showed that ammonium N content in the soil had the largest impact among fertilization effects. Long-term use of sheep manure was beneficial in restoring the balance of the micro-ecosystem in acidified soil. This study provides an important practical basis for soil remediation and fertilizer management in acidified tea plantation soils.

METHODS Ninety-one carbapenem-non-susceptible isolates and an equal number of carbapenem-susceptible isolates and their clinical information were collected from a university teaching hospital in China. The strains were divided into different clusters based on hsp60 analysis. The agar dilution method was used to determine the minimum inhibitory concentrations of common antibiotics. The crystal violet assay was used to measure biofilm-forming ability. The Galleria mellonella infection model and polymerase chain reaction of virulence genes were used to evaluate virulence. RESULTS The isolates were divided into 12 clusters based on hsp60 analysis. Cluster VIII accounted for a greater proportion of carbapenem-non-susceptible isolates than the other clusters. The same clusters exhibited different resistance rates in carbapenem-non-susceptible and carbapenem-susceptible isolates. Moreover, carbapenem-non-susceptible isolates carried fewer virulence genes than carbapenem-susceptible isolates, and carbapenem-non-susceptible isolates in cluster II in did not carry the detected virulence genes. Virulence of carbapenem-non-susceptible and carbapenem-susceptible isolates differed significantly in clusters I, III, VIII and IX, as evaluated using the G. mellonella infection model. Carbapenem-non-susceptible isolates in cluster VIII showed higher prevalence, resistance, biofilm-forming ability and pathogenicity compared with the other clusters. CONCLUSIONS The study findings indicate the need to identify subgroups of ECC, and provide better advice and guidance for the use of carbapenems.

Strong Constraints on Jet Quenching in Centrality-Dependent p+Pb Collisions at 5.02 TeV from ATLAS. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:072301. Abstract
Jet quenching is the process of color-charged partons losing energy via interactions with quark-gluon plasma droplets created in heavy-ion collisions. The collective expansion of such droplets is well described by viscous hydrodynamics. Similar evidence of collectivity is consistently observed in smaller collision systems, including pp and p+Pb collisions. In contrast, while jet quenching is observed in Pb+Pb collisions, no evidence has been found in these small systems to date, raising fundamental questions about the nature of the system created in these collisions. The ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider has measured the yield of charged hadrons correlated with reconstructed jets in 0.36 nb^{-1} of p+Pb and 3.6 pb^{-1} of pp collisions at 5.02 TeV. The yields of charged hadrons with p_{T}^{ch}>0.5 GeV near and opposite in azimuth to jets with p_{T}^{jet}>30 or 60 GeV, and the ratios of these yields between p+Pb and pp collisions, I_{pPb}, are reported. The collision centrality of p+Pb events is categorized by the energy deposited by forward neutrons from the struck nucleus. The I_{pPb} values are consistent with unity within a few percent for hadrons with p_{T}^{ch}>4 GeV at all centralities. These data provide new, strong constraints that preclude almost any parton energy loss in central p+Pb collisions.

Abstract
A test of CP invariance in Higgs boson production via vector-boson fusion has been performed in the H→γγ channel using 139 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The optimal observable method is used to probe the CP structure of interactions between the Higgs boson and electroweak gauge bosons, as described by an effective field theory. No sign of CP violation is observed in the data. Constraints are set on the parameters describing the strength of the CP-odd component in the coupling between the Higgs boson and the electroweak gauge bosons in two effective field theory bases: d[over ˜] in the HISZ basis and c_{HW[over ˜]} in the Warsaw basis. The results presented are the most stringent constraints on CP violation in the coupling between Higgs and weak bosons. The 95% C.L. constraint on d[over ˜] is derived for the first time and the 95% C.L. constraint on c_{HW[over ˜]} has been improved by a factor of 5 compared to the previous measurement.

Abstract
Objective: To study the effect of trefoil factor family (TFF) 3 on the expression of tight junctions (TJs) in the nasal mucosa epithelium of eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (eCRS) and its mechanism. Methods: From September to December 2020, eligible patients from the Department of Otorhinolaryngology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University were recruited, including 11 control patients and 37 patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP), from whom nasal mucosa and nasal polyp tissue samples were collected. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was used to detect the localization and expression intensity of TFFs (TFF1, TFF2 and TFF3) and TJs (occudin, claudin-1 and ZO-1) in nasal mucosa. Real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blot (WB) were used to detect the mRNA and protein expression. A cell model of tight junction injury in human nasal epithelial cells (HNECs) through stimulation with interleukin (IL)-13 was also established. The optimal modeling concentration and time for HNECs were determined, which were subsequently treated with TFF3 and/or a phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)-specific inhibitor (LY294002). Finally, RT-qPCR and WB were used to assess the effects of TFF3 on tight junctions and the PI3K/serine/threonine kinase (Akt) signaling pathway. Data were analyzed statistically using GraphPad Prism 7 software. Results: IHC results showed that the expression of TFF1 and TFF3 in nasal mucosa of eCRS group was significantly higher than that of control group (t=4.62, P=0.002; t=5.89, P<0.001), respectively, mainly expressed in goblet cell. The expression of occludin, claudin-1 and ZO-1 in the nasal mucosa of the eCRS group was lower than that of the control group (occludin t=3.98, P=0.019; claudin-1 t=5.15, P=0.002; ZO-1 t=5.42, P=0.001), respectively. WB results showed that the expression of TFF3 in non-eosinophilic chronic sinusitis (Non-eCRS) group and eCRS group was higher than that in the control group (t=3.62, P=0.036; t=5.93, P<0.001). The expression of occludin, claudin-1 and ZO-1 in eCRS group was lower than that in the control group (occludin t=5.14, P=0.002; claudin-1 t=6.35, P<0.001; ZO-1 t=6.64, P<0.001), respectively. The RT-qPCR results showed that compared with the control group, the levels of TFF1 and TFF3 mRNA were increased in the nasal mucosal epithelium of the Non-eCRS and eCRS groups (TFF1 t=3.98, P=0.046, t=4.89, P=0.002; TFF3 t=3.50, P=0.044, t=6.78, P<0.001). There was no statistically significant difference in TFF2 mRNA levels between the Non-eCRS and eCRS groups (t=1.34, P=0.061; t=3.37, P=0.055). Compared with the control group, Non-eCRS and eCRS groups showed a decrease in the mRNA levels of occludin, claudin-1 and ZO-1 (occludin t=4.27, P=0.011, t=5.61, P=0.007; claudin-1 t=3.62, P=0.036, t=6.80, P<0.001; ZO-1 t=3.47, P=0.047, t=7.86, P<0.001). The mRNA levels of TFF3 and TJs in eCRS nasal mucosa tissue showed a moderate positive correlation (occludin r=0.661, claudin-1 r=0.614, ZO-1 r=0.548, all P<0.001); TFF1 showed a low degree of positive correlation with the expression of occludin, claudin-1 and ZO-1 (occludin r=0.467, P=0.040; claudin-1 r=0.362, P=0.012; ZO-1 r=0.425, P=0.025). The establishment of cell models showed that compared with normal HNECs, the mRNA expression of TFF3 was most significantly increased at a concentration of 50 ng/ml stimulated by IL-13 (t=3.72, P=0.013); The mRNA expression of occludin, claudin-1 and ZO-1 decreased (occludin t=3.18, P=0.031; claudin-1 t=3.86, P=0.010; ZO-1 t=5.16, P=0.002). The expression of TFF3 mRNA increased most significantly after 15 hours of IL-13 stimulation (t=3.14, P=0.034); The mRNA expression of occludin, claudin-1 and ZO-1 decreased (occludin t=3.97, P=0.010; claudin-1 t=4.78, P=0.004; ZO-1 t=5.16, P=0.004). TJs damage model could be established by treating HNECs with 50 ng/ml IL-13 for 15 hours. Intervention experiments showed that compared with the IL-13 group, the IL-13+TFF3 group showed an increase in TJs mRNA expression (occludin t=6.10, P=0.009; claudin-1 t=5.90, P=0.013; ZO-1 t=9.44, P=0.007). Compared with the IL-13 group, the expression of TJs protein in the IL-13+TFF3 group increased (occludin t=3.23, P=0.013; claudin-1 t=9.40, P=0.017; ZO-1 t=2.23, P=0.032); The expression of TJs protein decreased in the IL-13+TFF3+LY294002 group (occludin t=4.73, claudin-1 t=8.77, ZO-1 t=3.51, all P<0.001). Compared with the IL-13+TFF3 group, the IL-3+TFF3+LY294002 group showed a decrease in PI3K and p-Akt/Akt protein expression (PI3K t=13.29, p-Akt/Akt t=10.30, all P<0.001). The increased mRNA and protein expression of occludin, claudin-1 and ZO-1 induced by TFF3 were also inhibited by LY294002. Conclusion: TFF3 can up-regulate the expression of occludin, claudin-1, and ZO-1 through PI3K/Akt pathway, and has a certain protective effect on the nasal mucosal epithelial barrier, providing a new idea for treating eCRS.

First Dark Matter Search with Nuclear Recoils from the XENONnT Experiment. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:041003. Abstract
We report on the first search for nuclear recoils from dark matter in the form of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) with the XENONnT experiment, which is based on a two-phase time projection chamber with a sensitive liquid xenon mass of 5.9 ton. During the (1.09±0.03) ton yr exposure used for this search, the intrinsic ^{85}Kr and ^{222}Rn concentrations in the liquid target are reduced to unprecedentedly low levels, giving an electronic recoil background rate of (15.8±1.3) events/ton yr keV in the region of interest. A blind analysis of nuclear recoil events with energies between 3.3 and 60.5 keV finds no significant excess. This leads to a minimum upper limit on the spin-independent WIMP-nucleon cross section of 2.58×10^{-47} cm^{2} for a WIMP mass of 28 GeV/c^{2} at 90% confidence level. Limits for spin-dependent interactions are also provided. Both the limit and the sensitivity for the full range of WIMP masses analyzed here improve on previous results obtained with the XENON1T experiment for the same exposure.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of lactic acid-induced upregulation of PLEKHA4 expression on biological behaviors of glioma cells and the possible molecular mechanism. METHODS GEO database and GEPIA2 website were used to analyze the relationship between PLEKHA4 expression level and the pathological grade of glioma. A specific PLEKHA4 siRNA was transfected in glioma U251 and T98G cells, and the changes in cell proliferation ability were assessed by real-time cell analysis technology and Edu experiment. The colony-forming ability of the cells was evaluated using plate cloning assay, and cell cycle changes and cell apoptosis were analyzed with flow cytometry. The mRNA expression of PLEKHA4 was detected by PCR in glioma samples and controls and in glioma cells treated with lactic acid and glucose. Xenograft mice in vivo was used to detect tumor formation in nude mice; Western blotting was used to detect the expressions of cyclinD1, CDK2, Bcl2, β-catenin and phosphorylation of the key proteins in the MAPK signaling pathway. RESULTS The results of GEO database and online website analysis showed that PLEKHA4 was highly expressed in glioma tissues and was associated with poor prognosis; PLEKHA4 knockdown obviously inhibited the proliferation and attenuated the clone-forming ability of the glioma cells (P < 0.05). Flow cytometry showed that PLEKHA4 knockdown caused cell cycle arrest in G1 phase and promoted apoptosis of the cells (P < 0.01). PLEKHA4 gene mRNA expression was increased in glioma samples and glioma cells after lactate and glucose treatment (P < 0.01). PLEKHA4 knockdown, tumor formation ability of nude mice decreased; PLEKHA4 knockdown obviously lowered the expression of cyclinD1, CDK2, Bcl2 and other functional proteins, inhibited the phosphorylation of ERK and p38 and reduced the expression of β-catenin protein (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION PLEKHA4 knockdown inhibited the proliferation of glioma cells and promoted apoptosis by inhibiting the activation of the MAPK signaling pathway and expression of β-catenin. Lactic acid produced by glycolysis upregulates the expression of PLEKHA4 in glioma cells.

Abstract
Blepharoptosis in children is one of the common pediatric eye diseases. It is not only a matter of aesthetics, but also affects visual and psychological development. How to choose the right time to operate has been controversial in clinical practice. Based on the domestic and foreign research progress and clinical experience, we propose that factors, such as the etiology of blepharoptosis, visual and psychological development characteristics of children, developmental characteristics of eyelid-related muscles, and types of blepharoptosis, should be considered for selection of the timing of surgery in a personalized and standardized manner, so as to provide reference and guidance for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of blepharoptosis in children.

Abstract
Multiple viable theoretical models predict heavy dark matter particles with a mass close to the Planck mass, a range relatively unexplored by current experimental measurements. We use 219.4 days of data collected with the XENON1T experiment to conduct a blind search for signals from multiply interacting massive particles (MIMPs). Their unique track signature allows a targeted analysis with only 0.05 expected background events from muons. Following unblinding, we observe no signal candidate events. This Letter places strong constraints on spin-independent interactions of dark matter particles with a mass between 1×10^{12} and 2×10^{17} GeV/c^{2}. In addition, we present the first exclusion limits on spin-dependent MIMP-neutron and MIMP-proton cross sections for dark matter particles with masses close to the Planck scale.

Abstract
Objective: This cross-sectional investigation aimed to determine the incidence, clinical characteristics, prognosis, and related risk factors of olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions related to infection with the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron strain in mainland China. Methods: Data of patients with SARS-CoV-2 from December 28, 2022, to February 21, 2023, were collected through online and offline questionnaires from 45 tertiary hospitals and one center for disease control and prevention in mainland China. The questionnaire included demographic information, previous health history, smoking and alcohol drinking, SARS-CoV-2 vaccination, olfactory and gustatory function before and after infection, other symptoms after infection, as well as the duration and improvement of olfactory and gustatory dysfunction. The self-reported olfactory and gustatory functions of patients were evaluated using the Olfactory VAS scale and Gustatory VAS scale. Results: A total of 35 566 valid questionnaires were obtained, revealing a high incidence of olfactory and taste dysfunctions related to infection with the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron strain (67.75%). Females(χ2=367.013, P<0.001) and young people(χ2=120.210, P<0.001) were more likely to develop these dysfunctions. Gender(OR=1.564, 95%CI: 1.487-1.645), SARS-CoV-2 vaccination status (OR=1.334, 95%CI: 1.164-1.530), oral health status (OR=0.881, 95%CI: 0.839-0.926), smoking history (OR=1.152, 95%CI=1.080-1.229), and drinking history (OR=0.854, 95%CI: 0.785-0.928) were correlated with the occurrence of olfactory and taste dysfunctions related to SARS-CoV-2(above P<0.001). 44.62% (4 391/9 840) of the patients who had not recovered their sense of smell and taste also suffered from nasal congestion, runny nose, and 32.62% (3 210/9 840) suffered from dry mouth and sore throat. The improvement of olfactory and taste functions was correlated with the persistence of accompanying symptoms(χ2=10.873, P=0.001). The average score of olfactory and taste VAS scale was 8.41 and 8.51 respectively before SARS-CoV-2 infection, but decreased to3.69 and 4.29 respectively after SARS-CoV-2 infection, and recovered to 5.83and 6.55 respectively at the time of the survey. The median duration of olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions was 15 days and 12 days, respectively, with 0.5% (121/24 096) of patients experiencing these dysfunctions for more than 28 days. The overall self-reported improvement rate of smell and taste dysfunctions was 59.16% (14 256/24 096). Gender(OR=0.893, 95%CI: 0.839-0.951), SARS-CoV-2 vaccination status (OR=1.334, 95%CI: 1.164-1.530), history of head and facial trauma(OR=1.180, 95%CI: 1.036-1.344, P=0.013), nose (OR=1.104, 95%CI: 1.042-1.171, P=0.001) and oral (OR=1.162, 95%CI: 1.096-1.233) health status, smoking history(OR=0.765, 95%CI: 0.709-0.825), and the persistence of accompanying symptoms (OR=0.359, 95%CI: 0.332-0.388) were correlated with the recovery of olfactory and taste dysfunctions related to SARS-CoV-2 (above P<0.001 except for the indicated values). Conclusion: The incidence of olfactory and taste dysfunctions related to infection with the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron strain is high in mainland China, with females and young people more likely to develop these dysfunctions. Active and effective intervention measures may be required for cases that persist for a long time. The recovery of olfactory and taste functions is influenced by several factors, including gender, SARS-CoV-2 vaccination status, history of head and facial trauma, nasal and oral health status, smoking history, and persistence of accompanying symptoms.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Anaemia during pregnancy is a significant public health problem that adversely impacts both the mother and foetus. However, the factors influencing maternal anaemia in deprived areas of Northwestern China have not yet been thoroughly investigated. This study aimed to describe the prevalence and potential influencing factors of anaemia among expectant mothers in rural areas of Northwestern China. STUDY DESIGN This was a cross-sectional survey. METHODS A cross-sectional survey of 586 expectant mothers was conducted to investigate the prevalence of anaemia, prenatal healthcare coverage, dietary diversity and nutrient supplementation intake. The study population was selected from the sample areas using a random sampling method. Data were collected through a questionnaire, and haemoglobin concentrations were measured by a capillary blood test. RESULTS The results show that 34.8% of the study population were anaemic, with 13% having moderate-to-severe anaemia. The results of the regression analysis showed that diet was not significantly associated with haemoglobin concentrations or the prevalence of anaemia. However, regular prenatal healthcare attendance was found to be an important influencing factor for both haemoglobin concentration (β = 3.67, P = 0.002) and the prevalence of anaemia (odds ratio = 0.59, P = 0.011). CONCLUSIONS Pregnant women receiving regular prenatal care were less likely to be anaemic; thus, it is essential to implement strategies to improve attendance at maternal public health services to reduce the prevalence of maternal anaemia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the growth-inhibitory and pro-apoptotic effects of piroctone olamine (PO) on glioma cells and explore the underlying mechanism. METHODS Human glioma cell lines U251 and U373 were treated with PO and the changes in cell proliferation were detected using CCK-8 assay and EdU assay. Clone formation assay and flow cytometry were used to examine the changes in clone formation ability and apoptosis of the treated cells. Mitochondrial membrane potential of the cells and morphological changes of the mitochondria were detected using JC-1 staining and a fluorescence probe, respectively. The expressions of mitochondrial fission protein DRP1 and the fusion protein OPA1 were determined with Western blotting. Transcriptome sequencing and differential gene enrichment analysis was performed, and the expression levels of PI3K, AKT and p-AKT in the treated cells were verified using Western blotting. RESULTS CCK-8 assay showed that PO significantly inhibited the proliferation of U251 and U373 cells in a time- and dose-dependent manner (P < 0.001). EdU test showed that the proliferative activity of PO-treated cells was significantly decreased, and the number of cell colonies also decreased significantly (P < 0.01). PO treatment significantly increased apoptotic rates (P < 0.01), decreased mitochondrial membrane potential and caused obvious changes in mitochondrial morphology of the cells. Pathway enrichment analysis showed that the down-regulated genes were significantly enriched in the PI3K/AKT pathway, which was verified by Western blotting showing significantly down-regulated expression levels of PI3K, AKT and p-AKT in PO-treated cells (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION PO interferes with mitochondrial fusion and fission function through the PI3K/AKT pathway, thereby inhibiting the proliferation and increasing apoptosis of glioma cells.

Robotic versus laparoscopic left colectomy with complete mesocolic excision for left-sided colon cancer: a multicentre study with propensity score matching analysis. Tech Coloproctol 2023:10.1007/s10151-023-02781-7. [PMID: 36964884 DOI: 10.1007/s10151-023-02781-7] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 01/17/2023] [Accepted: 02/28/2023] [Indexed: 03/26/2023]
Abstract
BACKGROUND Robotic surgery for right-sided colon and rectal cancer has rapidly increased; however, there is limited evidence in the literature of advantages of robotic left colectomy (RLC) for left-sided colon cancer. The purpose of this study was to compare the outcomes of RLC versus laparoscopic left colectomy (LLC) with complete mesocolic excision (CME) for left-sided colon cancer. METHODS Patients who had RLC or LLC with CME for left-sided colon cancer at 5 hospitals in China between January 2014 and April 2022 were included. A one-to-one propensity score matched analysis was performed to decrease confounding. The primary outcome was postoperative complications occurring within 30 days of surgery. Secondary outcomes were disease-free survival, overall survival and the number of harvested lymph nodes. RESULTS A total of 292 patients (187 males; median age 61.0 [20.0-85.0] years) were eligible for this study, and propensity score matching yielded 102 patients in each group. The clinical-pathological characteristics were well-matched between groups. The two groups did not differ in estimated blood loss, conversion to open rate, time to first flatus, reoperation rate, or postoperative length of hospital stay (p > 0.05). RLC was associated with a longer operation time (192.9 ± 53.2 vs. 168.9 ± 52.8 minutes, p=0.001). The incidence of postoperative complications did not differ between the RLC and LLC groups (18.6% vs. 17.6%, p = 0.856). The total number of lymph nodes harvested in the RLC group was higher than that in the LLC group (15.7 ± 8.3 vs. 12.1 ± 5.9, p< 0.001). There were no significant differences in 3-year and 5-year overall survival or 3-year and 5-year disease-free survival. CONCLUSIONS Compared to laparoscopic surgery, RLC with CME for left-sided colon cancer was found to be associated with higher numbers of lymph nodes harvested and similar postoperative complications and long-term survival outcomes.

Microarray profiling identifies hsa_circ_0082003 as a novel tumor promoter for papillary thyroid carcinoma. J Endocrinol Invest 2023; 46:509-522. [PMID: 36115894 DOI: 10.1007/s40618-022-01922-3] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 06/07/2022] [Accepted: 09/11/2022] [Indexed: 11/30/2022]
Abstract
BACKGROUND Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are non-coding RNAs that have essential regulatory roles in the development of various tumors. This study explored whether circRNAs are involved in the progression of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). METHODS Differentially expressed circRNAs (DECs) in four pairs of PTC and matched normal thyroid tissues were screened using a circRNA microarray. The potential functions of dysregulated circRNAs were predicted by bioinformatic analyses. Reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was used to determine hsa_circ_0082003 expression in 80 pairs of PTC and matched normal thyroid tissues. Cell counting kit-8, colony formation, wound healing, and Transwell assays were performed to evaluate the biological functions of hsa_circ_0082003 in PTC cells. The role of hsa_circ_0082003 in PTC tumorigenesis in vivo was validated in nude mice. RESULTS In total, 3150 DECs (2317 upregulated and 833 downregulated) were identified. Pathway enrichment analyses indicated that the dysregulated circRNAs may play roles in PTC development. RT-qPCR validation demonstrated that hsa_circ_0082003 expression was significantly increased in PTC tissues and correlated with poor clinicopathological parameters. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed that hsa_circ_0082003 had good performance for diagnosing PTC and judging whether it was accompanied by lymph node metastasis. Knockdown of hsa_circ_0082003 inhibited PTC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Tumor formation assays in vivo showed that downregulation of hsa_circ_0082003 significantly suppressed the growth of PTC. CONCLUSION Hsa_circ_0082003 may serve as a novel diagnostic biomarker and potential therapeutic target for PTC.

Abstract
Objective: To compare the effects of femtosecond laser-assisted astigmatic keratotomy (FSAK) with and without a manual opening for correction of low to moderate corneal astigmatism at the time of cataract surgery. Methods: It was a prospective cohort study. Patients undergoing cataract surgery from June 2021 to June 2022 at the Army Specialty Medical Center were consecutively enrolled. To correct low to moderate astigmatism, they had combined FSAK with the corneal epithelium manually opened or not according to their own decisions. Pentacam HR corneal topography was performed at 3 months after surgery. The main indicators were target induced astigmatism, surgically induced astigmatism, difference vector, correction index and angle of error. The independent samples t-test was used for continuous variables conforming to a normal distribution, the Mann-Whitney U-test for those not conforming to a normal distribution, and the Chi-square test for categorical variables. Results: There were 51 patients (61 eyes), including 27 patients (31 eyes) receiving combined open FSAK and 24 patients (30 eyes) with non-open keratotomy. No statistical difference was found between the two groups of patients in terms of age, gender and mean follow-up time (P>0.05). The target induced astigmatism was 1.10(0.80, 1.50) D in patients with open keratotomy and 1.30(0.98, 1.73) D in patients with non-open keratotomy (Z=1.729, P=0.084). The surgically induced astigmatism was 0.70 (0.59, 1.25) D and 0.42 (0.20, 0.66) D (Z=-3.571, P<0.001), the difference vector was (0.51±0.31) D and (1.21±0.44) D (t=-7.238, P<0.001), the correction index was 0.78±0.32 and 0.38±0.25 (t=5.386, P<0.001), and the angle of error was -1.08°±10.76° and 5.93°±46.98° (t=0.809, P=0.422) in the two groups, respectively. Conclusion: Open FSAK can achieve better astigmatism correction and less postoperative residual astigmatism than non-open FSAK in cataract surgery.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to investigate whether integrin levels are associated with axon regeneration after central nervous system (CNS) injury. MATERIALS AND METHODS By using immunohistochemistry, we performed a detailed investigation of the changes in and colocalization of integrins αv and α5, with Nogo-A in the retina after optic nerve injury. RESULTS We confirmed that integrins αv and α5 were expressed in the rat retina and colocalized with Nogo-A. After optic nerve transection, we found that integrin α5 levels increased over 7 days, but integrin αv levels remained unchanged, while Nogo-A levels increased. CONCLUSIONS It seems that the inhibition of axonal regeneration by the Amino-Nogo-integrin signaling pathway may not occur via changes in integrin levels.

Abstract
NAC (NAM, ATAF, CUC2) transcription factors constitute one of the largest families of plant-specific transcription factors with important roles in plant growth and development and in biotic and abiotic stresses. The physicochemical properties, gene structure, cis-acting elements and expression patterns of NAC transcription factors in Ginkgo biloba were analysed using bioinformatics, and expression of this gene family was analysed via quantitative reverse transcription PCR. The family of G. biloba NAC transcription factors had 50 members, distributed on 12 chromosomes and divided into 11 groups. Members in the same group share a similar gene structure and motif distribution. Transcriptome data analysis of G. biloba showed that 35 genes were expressed in eight tissues. Correlation analysis suggested that GbNAC007 and GNAC008 might be involved in flavonoid biosynthesis. Expression levels of 12 GbNACs under cold, het, and salt stresses were analysed. Results indicate that NAC transcription factors play an important role in response to abiotic stresses. This study provides a reference for the functional analysis of the G. biloba family of NAC transcription factors, as well as a resource for studies on the involvement of this family in responses to abiotic stresses and flavonoid biosynthesis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lateral lymph node metastasis (LLNM) has been considered a risk factor of recurrence in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). Preoperative detecting LLNM accurately is difficult. Solitary lateral lymph node metastasis is a special type of LLNM. We aimed to develop nomograms for predicting LLNM and multiple lateral lymph node metastasis (MLLNM). METHODS We retrospectively retrieved 528 classic PTC patients that underwent surgery between March 2019 and May 2020. Sonographic and clinicopathological features were collected. Risk factors of LLNM and MLLNM were determined by univariate and multivariate analysis. Nomograms for predicting LLNM and MLLNM were developed. RESULTS LLNM was independently associated with tumor size, the number of foci, location, margin, central lymph node metastasis, and lymph node ratio. Independent predictors of MLLNM were age, margin, and the number of metastatic lymph nodes in central compartment. By using above variables, we constructed nomograms for predicting LLNM and MLLNM, with area under curves of 0.864 and 0.748, respectively. CONCLUSION Through these accurate and easy-to-use nomograms, we can detect the risk of residual LLNM postoperatively for classic PTC patients who did not receive lateral neck dissection and provide an individualized plan for postoperative management of classic PTC patients.

Abstract
We report on a blinded analysis of low-energy electronic recoil data from the first science run of the XENONnT dark matter experiment. Novel subsystems and the increased 5.9 ton liquid xenon target reduced the background in the (1, 30) keV search region to (15.8±1.3) events/(ton×year×keV), the lowest ever achieved in a dark matter detector and ∼5 times lower than in XENON1T. With an exposure of 1.16 ton-years, we observe no excess above background and set stringent new limits on solar axions, an enhanced neutrino magnetic moment, and bosonic dark matter.

Abstract
Selenium (Se) is a metalloid mineral nutrient for human and animal health. Plants are the main foodstuff source of the Se intake of humans. For plants, the addition of an appropriate amount of Se could promotes growth and development, and improves the tolerance to environmental stress, especially stress from some of heavy metals (HM) stress, such as cadmium (Cd) and mercury (Hg). This paper mainly reviews and summarizes the physiological mechanism of Se in enhancing HM stress tolerance in plants. The antagonistic effect of Se on HM is a comprehensive effect that includes many physiological mechanisms. Se can promote the removal of excessive reactive oxygen species and reduce the oxidative damage of plant cells under HM elements stress. Se participates in the regulation of the transportation and distribution of HM ions in plants, and alleviates the damage caused by of HM stress. Moreover, Se combine with HM elements to form Se-HM complexes and promote the production of phytochelatins (PCs), thereby reducing the accumulation of HM ions in plants. Overall, Se plays an important role in plant response to HM stress, but current studies mainly focus on physiological mechanism, and further in-depth study on the molecular mechanism is essential to confirm the participation of Se in plant response to environmental stress. This review helps to comprehensively understand the physiological mechanism of Se in plant tolerance against to HM stress of plants, and provides important theoretical support for the practical application of Se in environmental remediation and agricultural development.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of WWW production and a measurement of its cross section using 139 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events with two same-sign leptons (electrons or muons) and at least two jets, as well as events with three charged leptons, are selected. A multivariate technique is then used to discriminate between signal and background events. Events from WWW production are observed with a significance of 8.0 standard deviations, where the expectation is 5.4 standard deviations. The inclusive WWW production cross section is measured to be 820±100 (stat)±80 (syst) fb, approximately 2.6 standard deviations from the predicted cross section of 511±18 fb calculated at next-to-leading-order QCD and leading-order electroweak accuracy.

Abstract
The standard model of particle physics1-4 describes the known fundamental particles and forces that make up our Universe, with the exception of gravity. One of the central features of the standard model is a field that permeates all of space and interacts with fundamental particles5-9. The quantum excitation of this field, known as the Higgs field, manifests itself as the Higgs boson, the only fundamental particle with no spin. In 2012, a particle with properties consistent with the Higgs boson of the standard model was observed by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN10,11. Since then, more than 30 times as many Higgs bosons have been recorded by the ATLAS experiment, enabling much more precise measurements and new tests of the theory. Here, on the basis of this larger dataset, we combine an unprecedented number of production and decay processes of the Higgs boson to scrutinize its interactions with elementary particles. Interactions with gluons, photons, and W and Z bosons-the carriers of the strong, electromagnetic and weak forces-are studied in detail. Interactions with three third-generation matter particles (bottom (b) and top (t) quarks, and tau leptons (τ)) are well measured and indications of interactions with a second-generation particle (muons, μ) are emerging. These tests reveal that the Higgs boson discovered ten years ago is remarkably consistent with the predictions of the theory and provide stringent constraints on many models of new phenomena beyond the standard model.

Abstract
Satellites associated begomoviruses are the most diverse group of plant viruses in tropical and subtropical regions. In Pakistan, during field surveys in 2019-2020, Sonchus palustris (a weed plant) was observed showing begomovirus symptoms i.e., vein yellowing and mosaic patterns on leaves. Rolling circle amplification from total isolated DNA of symptomatic leaves was performed to amplify circular viral genomes. Subsequent cloning and sequencing showed that a new strain of Alternanthera yellow vein virus (AlYVV) is associated with vein yellowing disease of S. palustris. The identity percentage analysis through BLAST search and SDT analysis showed that the new strain is 94-98% identical to AlYVV isolates reported from Pakistan, India and China. In phylogenetic tree, it clustered with AlYVV-[PK:E prostrata:15-KX710155], AlYVV-[PK:E prostrata:13]-KX906697] and AlYVV-[PK:E prostrata:11]-KX906694] previously reported from Pakistan. There was no detectable level of betasatellite or any other satellite molecule in the samples studied here. Phylogenetic analysis of Rep and CP genes of AlYVV with corresponding genes of closely related viruses circulating in Southeast Asia showed intra-specific recombination involving both complementary and virion sense region of virus. Relaxed clock and Bayesian Skyline Plot analysis based on CP gene sequences indicated slight higher substitution rates (4.75 x 10-3 substitutions/nucleotide/year). In the Indian subcontinent satellite-associated monopartite begomoviruses predominately infect crops and non-crop plants. But AlYVV is found infecting mostly non-crop plants independent of satellite molecules. We hypothesize here that AlYVV evolved as a true monopartite begomovirus in the Indian sub-continent and could be a great threat to introduced crops under suitable conditions. Such studies are crucial to understand probable future epidemics of begomoviruses in the region.
