Abstract
Objectives: To explore the clinical characteristics of children with adenoid hypertrophy (AH) and laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) by detecting the expression of pepsin in adenoids as a standard for AH with LPR. Methods: A total of 190 children who were admitted for surgical treatment due to AH were included in the study. The main clinical symptoms of the patients were recorded, and the degree of adenoid hypertrophy was evaluated. Before the surgery, Reflux Symptom Index (RSI) and Reflux Finding Score (RFS) were used to evaluate the reflux symptoms. After the surgery, pepsin immunohistochemical staining was performed on the adenoid tissue, and according to the staining results, the patients were divided into study group (pepsin staining positive) and control group (pepsin staining negative). SPSS 19.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Quantitative data conforming to normal distribution between the two groups were tested by two-independent sample t test, and quantitative data with skewed distribution were tested by Mann-Whitney U test. Results: The positive rate of pepsin staining in the 190 AH patients was 78.4% (149/190). The study group had higher levels of preoperative symptoms such as erythema and/or congestion of the pharynx(2.1±0.7 vs. 1.8±0.6,t=2.23), vocal cord edema[1.0(0, 1.0) vs. 1.0(0, 1.0), Z=2.00], diffuse laryngeal edema[0(0, 1.0) vs. 0(0, 0), Z=2.48], posterior commissure hypertrophy[(1.4±0.6 vs. 1.1±0.5), t=2.63], and a higher total score on the RFS scale than the control group(6.2±2.7 vs. 5.0±2.6, t=2.47), with statistical differences (P<0.05). The sensitivity and specificity of RFS score in diagnosing AH with LPR were 24.8% and 80.5%, respectively. When RFS>5 was used as the positive threshold, the sensitivity and specificity of RFS score in diagnosing AH with LPR were 61.1% and 58.5%, respectively. There was a statistical difference in the number of positive cases of RFS score between the study group and the control group(91 vs. 17,χ2=5.04,P=0.032). Conclusions: LPR is common in AH children. Children with AH and LPR have specific performance in electronic laryngoscopy, such as erythema with edema in the pharynx, posterior commissure hypertrophy, and vocal cord edema.

Abstract
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep disorder with a high incidence and severe impact on the human body, which can induce systemic chronic inflammatory responses. Chronic inflammation is an important cause of exacerbation of OSA and its associated complications. Nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor 3 (NLRP3) is an inflammasome that is widely found in epithelial cells and immune cells and plays an important role in inflammatory diseases as an important component of innate immunity. Research evidence suggests that the activation of NLRP3 inflammasomes can exacerbate the damage to neurons, endothelial cells, lung and kidney caused by OSA, and these effects can be eliminated by genetic or pharmacological deletion of NLRP3. Targeting inhibition of NLRP3 inflammasome may serve as a co-therapeutic strategy for OSA-induced related complications. This article reviews NLRP3 inflammasome and its mechanism in OSA-related concurrent diseases, which can provide scientific basis for prevention and intervention of OSA and its related complications.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the characteristics of acute otitis media(AOM) in children in Beijing and its correlation with meteorological factors. Methods: Data were collected in 2011-2013 in the Otolaryngology Department of Capital Institute of Pediatrics. AOM in children with relevant information, such as age, sex and season, with the same period of the Beijing municipal meteorological data (the average temperature, average pressure, average wind speed, humidity and PM2.5) were compared to analysis the relationship of meteorological environmental parameters and the onset of AOM in children. Results: Annual morbidity of AOM was 7 589, 8 245, 7 242 respectively, no obvious difference(P=0.761). It was noted that one peak could be seen in December, and a valley in February, followed by August. Summer was less than the other three seasons (P<0.05). The morbidity of AOM had a small peak within one year after birth, then reached peak at the age of about 4, and then reduced gradually. In different age groups, male patients were higher than those of female. The incidence of AOM was positively correlation tendency with air pressure and PM2.5 (r=0.333, 0.093, P=0.000, 0.002), which was negatively correlation tendency with daily temperature or humidity (r=-0.327, -0.195, P=0.000, 0.000). Conclusions: The incidence of AOM of children in Beijing changes with age, and has obvious seasonal variation. There may be some correlation between the meteorological factors and the incidence of AOM in children.

Abstract
Objective: To understand the effect of treating obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) on chronic cough in children. Methods: A total of 100 consecutive children with OSAHS diagnosed by polysomnography(PSG) and chronic cough were included in this study. All children underwent cough condition assessment, OSA-18 scales and MS-IOS before and after surgery, and all children were followed-up for 3 months. Children were separated into three groups according to the severity of OSAHS. Related parameters like Zr, Rf, R5, R20, X5, X35, Rc, Rp obtained from MS-IOS, OSA-18 scores and cough scores were compared between different groups using paired t-test or Wilcoxon sum test. Results: There existed significantly positive correlations between AHI and scores of OSA-18(r=0.653, P<0.01). AHI positively related to cough scores including diurnal(r=0.470, P<0.01)and nocturnal cough scores(r=0.459, P<0.01). Scores of OSA-18 had similarity in correlations with diurnal(r=0.527, P<0.01)and nocturnal cough scores(r=0.532, P<0.01). All children got improved in OSA-18 scales and cough scores after treatment. In details, the three groups were mild group(n=34), moderate group(n=37), severe group(n=29). OSA-18 scales decreased dramatically in each group after surgery, Z values were -5.014, -5.035, -4.624 respectively(P=0.000). Cough scores in day and night got reduced after treatment, Z values were -5.112, -5.102, -5.394, -5.374, -4.777, -4.770 in three groups. Rp in all children got alleviated after surgical management, Z were -3.150, -5.035, -5.374(P=0.000). Other parameters were analyzed using paired t test. Z5, R5, R20, R35 got reduced in all three groups.X5 got reduced in mild and moderate groups. Rc reduced only in the moderate group. Conclusions: OSAHS may be a trigger or inducer of chronic cough. Active treatment of OSAHS via surgery can improve the quality of children's life and alleviate the symptoms of cough in day and night.

Abstract
The Wnt signaling pathway plays a key role in insurgence and progression of many different forms of cancer. Some crucial components of the Wnt pathway have been proposed to be novel targets for cancer therapy. To date, the Wnt signaling pathway has not been studied in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC). This study was designed to investigate the expression of Wnt1 and SFRP1 from the Wnt pathway in CSCC. Tissue samples were obtained from 35 patients with CSCC and 30 controls admitted to the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region People's Hospital at Urumchi City, China. Gene and protein expressions of Wnt1 and SFRP1 were quantified by immunohistochemistry and western blotting. Wnt1 expression was significantly higher (P < 0.05) in CSCC samples than in normal skin cells of the control subjects; in contrast, SFRP1 expression was significantly lower in CSCC tissues than that in tissues of control subjects (P < 0.05). Moreover, Wnt1 expression (P < 0.05) was found to be correlated with histopathological differentiation in CSCC, and negatively correlated with SFRP1 expression in CSCC (rs = -0.473, P = 0.015). Therefore, we concluded that Wnt1 and SFRP1 play important roles in the development of CSCC and could be potent markers for diagnosis, prevention, and therapy of CSCC.

Association of variants in renal salt reabsorption-related gene SLC12A3 with essential hypertension in a Mongolian population. GENETICS AND MOLECULAR RESEARCH 2015; 14:10026-36. Abstract
Mounting evidence has implicated the SLC12A3 gene in essential hypertension. Here, we examined the potential associations of common variants of the SLC12A3 gene with blood pressure traits in Mongolians in China. Genomic DNA was extracted from 508 unrelated Mongolian patients with essential hypertension and 246 normotensive Mongolian subjects for genotyping. The genotype distributions of all selected polymorphisms were consistent with Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The presence of the G allele in the rs7187932 polymorphism was found to be associated with an increased risk of hypertension (OR: 1.30; 95%CI = 1.00-1.38; P = 0.048), whereas the rs2399594 G allele was associated with a reduced risk for hypertension (OR: 0.76; 95%CI = 0.60-0.97; P = 0.030). No significant difference was observed for other alleles. Haplotype analysis revealed an association of the rs2399594 and rs711746 GG haplotype with a reduced risk for hypertension (OR: 0.76; 95%CI = 0.60-0.97; P = 0.029). No significant association was observed between other haplotypes and hypertension. These results suggest that the SLC12A3 gene is a susceptibility gene for hypertension in the Mongolian population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy and safety of deferasirox in heavily iron-overloaded patients with beta-thalassemia major. METHODS A single arm, open-label clinical trial was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of deferasirox in the treatment for 23 patients with beta-thalassemia major and heavily iron-overloaded in 3 years follow-up. RESULTS The 23 patients never received regular chelation before enrolling this trial [the mean baseline of serum ferritin was (5433.96 ± 2873.90) µg/L]. In this trial, a deferasirox dose of 20 mg×kg(-1)×d(-1) could stabilize serum ferritin levels, while of ≥ 30 mg×kg(-1)×d(-1) reduced the levels and achieved negative iron balance. There were no serious adverse events related to the drug. Most common adverse events were mild increases of liver enzyme and serum creatinine levels. Overall, 23 patients could tolerate the drug on schedule and all completed the trial. CONCLUSION As a new oral iron chelator, deferasirox has a significant efficacy for the treatment of iron overload. The effectiveness is dependent on the courses of treatment and the dose of deferasirox. The single-dose used is safe and tolerated, so deferasirox can remarkably improve life quality of patients.

Screw-pitch effect and velocity oscillation of a domain wall in a ferromagnetic nanowire driven by spin-polarized current. JOURNAL OF PHYSICS. Abstract
We investigate the dynamics of a domain wall in a ferromagnetic nanowire with spin-transfer torque. The critical current condition is obtained analytically. Below the critical current, we get the static domain wall solution, which shows that the spin-polarized current cannot drive a domain wall moving continuously. In this case, the spin-transfer torque plays both the anti-precession and anti-damping roles, which counteracts not only the spin precession driven by the effective field but also Gilbert damping of the moment. Above the critical value, the dynamics of the domain wall exhibits the novel screw-pitch effect characterized by the temporal oscillation of domain wall velocity and width, respectively. Both the theoretical analysis and numerical simulation demonstrate that this novel phenomenon arises from the conjunctive action of Gilbert damping and spin-transfer torque. We also find that the roles of spin-transfer torque are completely opposite for the cases below and above the critical current.

hsBAFF-upregulated intracellular free Ca(2+) homeostasis regulates ERK1/2 activity and cell proliferation in B cells in vitro. Physiol Res 2008; 58:411-418. Abstract
We studied hsBAFF activity in in vitro mouse splenic B cells. hsBAFF effects on intracellular free Ca(2+) concentration ([Ca(2+)](i)) were assayed, using a laser scanning confocal microscope with fluorescent probe, Fluo-3/AM. We showed that treatment of B cells with 0.5-5 microg/ml hsBAFF resulted in significantly higher [Ca(2+)](i) levels in a dose-dependent fashion at 12 and 24 h, respectively (p<0.05 or p<0.01 vs. control). Furthermore, we noticed that 2.5 microg/ml hsBAFF-treated cells were significantly resistant to decrease of cellular viability induced by thapsigargin (Tg), an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) Ca(2+)-ATPase inhibitor (p<0.05 hsBAFF plus Tg group vs. Tg group). Thus hsBAFF may promote B cell survival by direct upregulation of [Ca(2+)](i) physiological homeostasis contributing to prevention of [Ca(2+)](i) dysfunction. Using immunocytochemistry and Western blot analysis, we found that the activation of ERK1/2 due to hsBAFF was triggered by a [Ca(2+)](i) -dependent pathway, leading to elevation of B cell proliferation. This is supported by the findings that intracellular Ca(2+) chelator BAPTA/AM attenuated phosphorylated ERK1/2 expression and cell proliferation in hsBAFF-stimulated B cells. hsBAFF-stimulated B cell proliferation was obviously reduced by mitogen extracellular kinase 1/2 (MEK1/2, upstream of ERK1/2) inhibitor U0126. Taken together, the main finding of this study is that hsBAFF elicits higher but homeostatic [Ca(2+)](i) levels, which regulates ERK1/2 activity and cell proliferation in in vitro B cells.

Abstract
We investigate the quantum tunneling of Bose-Einstein condensates in optical lattices under gravity in the "Wannier-Stark localization" regime and "Landau-Zener tunneling" regime. Our results agree with experimental data [B. P. Anderson et al., Science 282, 1686 (1998); F. S. Cataliotti et al., Science 293, 843 (2001)]. We obtain the total decay rate which is valid over the entire range of temperatures, and show how it reduces to the appropriate results for the classical thermal activation at high temperatures, the thermally assisted tunneling at intermediate temperatures, and the pure quantum tunneling at low temperatures. We design an experimental protocol to observe this new phenomenon in further experiments.

Abstract
Parametric Raman sideband generation is investigated using strongly driven Raman coherence in solid hydrogen. We show that the Raman coherence prepared with two coaxial single-mode lasers beats with multimode laser radiation with very broad bandwidth and efficiently replicates the broadband nature to the Raman sidebands without the restriction of phase matching. We demonstrate that this efficient replication occurs mainly on the negative side of Raman detuning, where the medium adiabatically follows the antiphased state.

Abstract
By employing the pUC19 as a backbone, the regulatory and signal sequences which encode kanamycin resistance, and mycobacterial plasmid origin of replication (oriM) were cloned into the pUC19. The recombinant E. Coli-mycobacteria shuttle expression plasmid pBCG-8000 was constructed. The pBCG-8000 was able to replicate in both E. Coli and mycobacteria (including BCG) systems, and to confer stable kanamycin resistance upon transformants. The study should facilitate the development of BCG and other mycobacteria into multivalent vaccine vectors.

Abstract
To observe the effect of Re-Du-Qing on the toxic effect of endotoxin, the rabbit model of general Shwartzman reaction was made by injection of endotoxin into ear vein and the H(+)-ATP synthase activities of rabbit liver mitochondria were measured. The results showed that the H(+)-ATP synthase activity of endotoxin group was significantly lower than that of the normal group and group which had been simultaneously injected Re-Du-Qing (P less than 0.05). The level of H(+)-ATP synthase activity was almost raised to normal value, when Re-Du-Qing or dexamethasone was injected simultaneously with endotoxin respectively. It suggested that Re-Du-Qing was able to alleviate the nocuous effect of endotoxin on H(+)-ATP synthase activity in the mitochondria of rabbit liver cells.

Changes in tidal and minute volume and respiratory flow rates were determined by capacitance respirometry, a noninvasive method of monitoring respiration. The presence of an endotracheal tube of 7.5 to 8.5 mm ID had no significant effect on ventilation, respiratory flow rates, or intrapulmonary shunting. Laboratory and clinical evidence showed that in postoperative patients, an endotracheal tube of 8 mm ID substitutes a relatively low, predictable resistance for a potentially excessive and variable upper airway resistance.
