Abstract
Tadalafil (TDF) has low water solubility, high intestinal permeability and belongs to the Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS) Class II. Due to high intestinal permeability, only oral administration (tablets) and oral thin film formulations have been developed. Therefore, it is necessary to develop various formulations, such as external formulations and transdermal absorption formulations requested by patients. The purpose of this study is to improve the solubility and skin permeability of TDF, and to develop a novel transdermal formulation with secured stability over time. The research strategy is to determine solvents that will improve TDF solubility and to screen substances that will enhance TDF permeability. Skin penetration tests were simulated by using a Strat-M® membrane in Franz diffusion cell systems. The optimal formulation (F1, consisting of TDF/HDTMA-Br at a ratio of 1:10 [weight/weight] in DPG) observed the highest permeability compared to all formulations in PBS (pH 7.4). Changes in thermal property of F1 formulation was observed and maintained its stability over 12 months including drug content (μg/mL), appearance, pH, and permeation (μg/cm2). In conclusion, DPG played a supported role in improving both TDF solubilization and permeability, whereas HDTMA-Br played a key role in enhancing permeability. It is thought that these results will be supplemented in the future to conduct research and experiments on humans.

Abstract
Drug solubilization studies are continuously being conducted. Febuxostat (FBX) has a low solubility in water. This study aims to develop a stable FBX-solid dispersion (SD) formulation using a solvent evaporation method. The solubilization strategy of FBX is to develope an optimal FBX-SD formulation by selecting a solubilizer and carrier through the screening method. The final selected solubilizer, macrogol 15 hydroxystearate and polyoxyl 15 hydroxystearate (Kolliphor® HS-15), is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry as a nonionic solubilizing and emulsifying agent and has low toxicity. Especially when commonly used in developing lipophilic drug formulations, it dissolves well in water and ethyl alcohol. The optimal composition ratio of the formulation (SD4) was FBX:HS-15®:granular dicalcium phosphate dehydrate (DCP-D): A synthetic magnesium aluminometasilicate (Neusilin®UFL2):chitosan = 1:3:3:1:1 (w/w) and showed 3.0-, 2.3-, and 1.1-fold higher dissolution (%) of FBX compared to that of the Feburic tab® in pH 1.2 media, distilled water (DW), and pH 6.8 buffer, respectively. Also, in vitro release and in vitro permeability in SD4 formulation showed higher than that of Feburic tab®. Based on its stability over 6 months, it was confirmed that chitosan acted as a stabilizer. Moreover, due to weak intermolecular interactions, FBX in the SD4 formulation was considered to exist in a mixed state of amorphous and crystalline FBX. In conclusion, the improved dissolution (%) and stability of FBX in SD4 formulation were secured through the synergistic effect of excipients.

Abstract
Febuxostat (Febux) is a BCS II drug and has a very low solubility. In order to overcome this shortcoming, the purpose of study is to increase the in vitro dissolution (%) and drug release (%) of Febux by using a screening method. The Febux-SD formulation was prepared by screening solubilizers, pH agents, and carriers using with a solvent evaporation method. The novel Febux SD formulation was successfully developed. The dissolution (%) of Febux of optimal formulation (SD3) was higher than that of Feburic® tab in pH 1.2, distilled water (DW), and pH 6.8 buffer by 6.3-, 2.6-, and 1.1-fold, respectively, at 60 min. The in vitro drug release (%) and permeability (μg/cm2) of SD3 formulation were improved compared to those of Feburic® tab in the pH shifting method and PBS (7.4), respectively. The SD3 formulation was well maintained the stability for 6 months, and that of physicochemical properties were altered. In conclusion, the Febux solubilization study with meglumine was first attempted and successfully performed. Through the improved dissolution (%) of Febux, high bioavailability of SD3 formulation is expected in animal and human studies.

Abstract
Despite many efforts to improve the transdermal permeability of drugs, most of them are blocked by the skin barrier. Niacinamide (NAC) is a Biopharmaceutics Classification System class I drug with high aqueous solubility and intestinal permeability. Due to the high solubility and intestinal permeability of NAC, the development of new formulations is insufficient as transdermal, injection etc. Thus, this study aimed to develop the novel NAC formulation with improved skin permeability and secured stability. The NAC formulation approach is to first select a solvent that improves skin permeability, and then select a second penetration enhancer to determine the final formulation. All formulations were evaluated for skin permeability using an artificial membrane (Strat-M®). The optimal formulation (non-ionic formulations (NF1) consisted of NAC/Tween®80 = 1:1 wt ratio in dipropylene glycol [DPG]) showed the highest permeability in all formulations in PBS buffer (pH 7.4). The thermal properties of NF1 were altered. Moreover, NF1 maintained a stable drug content, appearance, and pH value for 12 months. In conclusion, DPG had an excellent effect in increasing the NAC permeation, and Tween®80 played a boosting role. Through this study, an innovative NAC formulation was developed, and good results are expected for human transdermal research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Healthcare workers (HCWs) have an increased risk of blood-borne pathogen (BBP) infection due to occupational blood exposures (OBEs). Early reporting, detection, and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) allows for prevention of infections. AIM To investigate the incidence of OBEs, related epidemiological characteristics, PEP completion rate, time and reason for PEP discontinuation, and seroconversion rate reported over 10 years. METHODS We retrospectively analysed 1,086 OBE cases and staff PEP management from January 2012 to December 2021 in a South Korean tertiary hospital. FINDINGS The mean incidence of OBE was 7.82 per 100 beds and 3.0 per 100 HCWs. Among 1,086 cases, 633 (58.3%) required PEP, and 453 (41.7%) did not. After OBEs, 70.1% (444/633) of those subject to PEP completed tracking, and 29.9% (189/633) stopped PEP tracking (p < 0.001). The PEP completion rate showed a significant difference according to gender (p = 0.024), occupation (p < 0.001), and exposure frequency (p < 0.001). None of the 444 HCWs who completed PEP seroconverted to hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus, human immunodeficiency virus, or Treponema pallidum (syphilis). CONCLUSION Our findings demonstrate the need to improve follow-up care among HCWs following OBEs. There is a need for education in healthcare facilities; moreover, establishing a national surveillance system is necessary to ensure that HCWs proactively undergo PEP and complete their follow-up visits.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The global increase in the prevalence of vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) and carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) among multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) has necessitated contact precaution and isolation in medical institutions. Contact isolation has a negative effect on the mental health of patients, but few interventions have addressed this issue. AIM This study evaluated an isolation-coping programme developed for patients colonized or infected with VRE or CRE. METHODS To mitigate the negative effects of isolation due to having MDRO, an infection control nurse in the present study 1) developed an isolation-coping programme and 2) validated the programme's effect on the uncertainty, anxiety, depression, and knowledge of patients isolated because of MDRO (VRE or CRE) using a pre-post quasi-experimental design. FINDINGS The experimental group (n=56) received education and emotional support via the isolation-coping programme, while the control group (n=55) received only verbal isolation guidelines provided by the medical institution. Compared with the control group, the experimental group showed a reduction in uncertainty (t=-8.925), anxiety (Z=-6.131), and depression (Z=-5.379), and better knowledge (Z=-8.372) (p<.001 for all). CONCLUSION The novel isolation-coping programme is an effective intervention to improve uncertainty, anxiety, depression, and knowledge in patients isolated with VRE or CRE.

Abstract
We propose an interface-engineered oxide-supported Pt nanoparticle-based catalyst with improved low-temperature activity toward CO oxidation. By wet-impregnating 1 wt % Ce on TiO2, we synthesized hybrid oxide support of CeOx-TiO2, in which dense CeOx clusters formed on the surface of TiO2. Then, the Pt/CeOx-TiO2 catalyst was synthesized by impregnating 2 wt % Pt on the CeOx-TiO2 supporting oxide. Pt-CeOx-TiO2 triphase interfaces were eventually formed upon impregnation of Pt on CeOx-TiO2. The Pt-CeOx-TiO2 interfaces open up the interface-mediated Mars-van Krevelen CO oxidation pathway, thus providing additional interfacial reaction sites for CO oxidation. Consequently, the specific reaction rate of Pt/CeOx-TiO2 for CO oxidation was increased by 3.2 times compared with that of Pt/TiO2 at 140 °C. Our results demonstrate a widely applicable and straightforward method of catalytic activation of the interfaces between metal nanoparticles and supporting oxides, which enabled fine-tuning of the catalytic performance of oxide-supported metal nanoparticle classes of heterogeneous catalysts.

Abstract
We fabricated and characterized AlGaN/GaN high-electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) with a nano-sized in situ cap layer (one is a silicon carbon nitride (SiCN) layer, and the other is a silicon nitride (SiN) layer) comparing to the conventional device without an in situ cap layer. The pulse characteristics and noise behaviors for two devices with in situ cap layers are much superior to those of the reference device without a cap layer, which means that the in situ cap layer effectively passivates the AlGaN surface. On the other hand, the device with an in situ SiCN cap layer showed the excellent device characteristics and noise performances compared to the other devices because of the reduced positive ionic charges and enhanced surface morphology caused by carbon (C) surfactant atoms during the growth of the SiCN cap layer. These results indicate that the AlGaN/GaN HEMT with the in situ SiCN cap layer is very promising for the next high-power device by replacing the conventional HEMT.

Abstract
Following the fourth Industrial Revolution, electronic and data-based technology is becoming increasingly developed. However, current research on enhancing electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and the physical protection performance of structures incorporating these technologies is insufficient. Therefore, in this study aiming for the improvement of EMI shielding and structural performance of structures, twelve concrete walls were fabricated and tested to determine their shielding effectiveness and drop-weight impact resistance. Concrete walls strengthened by three thickness types of high-strength, high-ductility concrete (HSDC) have been considered. The test results showed that the shielding effectiveness with strengthening thickness increased by approximately 35.6-46.2%. Specimens strengthened by more than 40% and 10% of the strengthening area ratio of single- and double-layer, respectively, exhibited more than 20 dB of shielding effectiveness. Moreover, the relationship between the damaged area ratio and shielding effectiveness was evaluated by means of the drop-weight impact test. The structural performance and EMI shielding effectiveness improved as the HSDC thickness increased.

Abstract
There is a continued global effort to prevent the spread of prescription drug abuse. In particular, chemical structure of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride (PSE), an over-the-counter medication, is very similar to that of methamphetamine (MET). The aim of this study was to develop abuse-deterrent formulations (ADF) of PSE by using thermal modified starch (TMR). PSE is a water-soluble drug, but it is intended to inhibit extraction from the extraction medium in excess tablets. Starch-based formulations were successfully developed using cross-linking agent and lipid. The extraction (%) of PSE from TMR7-L5 formulation (equivalent to 5 tablets) were 75.3% in DW, 2.7% in ethyl alcohol, and 63.0% in 40% ethyl alcohol (v/v) at 60 °C for 30 min. Moreover, TMR7-L5 formulation delayed drug release compared to the commercial product in in vitro release. In conclusion, the development of ADFs using a starch-based formulation shows novelty and has potential to prevent drug abuse.

Evaluation on the Microstructure and Durability of High-Strength Concrete Containing Electric Arc Furnace Oxidizing Slag. MATERIALS (BASEL, SWITZERLAND) 2021; 14:1304. Abstract
The application of electric arc furnace oxidizing slag (EAS) in high strength concrete (HSC) as the cementitious material is investigated in this study. The microstructure and mechanical properties of HSC with four different replacement ratios of EAS were evaluated and HSC with two replacement ratios of ground granulated blast furnace slag (GBS) was used for performance comparison. The results show that the HSC with EAS replacement ratios smaller than 15% undergo similar hydration processes and result in a similar final product when compared with those of NC-NN. Increases in EAS replacement ratio cause a reduction in Ca(OH)2 content; this, in turn, leads to an increase in porosity and a reduction in compressive strength. In terms of shrinkage behavior under free conditions, mixtures with increasing replacement ratios of cementitious materials saw increasing shrinkage, with the HSC containing EAS being similar to the other specimens. The mixtures containing EAS saw a quite gradual decrease in their freezing and thawing resistance properties as the number of freeze-thaw cycles they underwent increased. However, the efficacy of HSC with less than 15% of EAS is similar to GBS; hence, EAS could replace cement in concrete for certain applications, which would lead to more environmental benefits.

Abstract
Naftopidil (NAF), an α1-adrenoceptor antagonist, is administered as a treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia; however, according to the Biopharmaceutical Classification System (BCS IV), it is a poorly-soluble drug that exhibits poor permeability. We aimed to increase the dissolution (%) of NAF by adding chitosan to a polymer-free formulation. Compared to the formulation prepared using Flivas®, at 60 min, the solid dispersion (SD) formulation containing NAF, fumaric acid, chitosan, and US2® in a 1:1:2:1 weight ratio improved the dissolution (%) of NAF in distilled water, pH 1.2 media, pH 4.0 and pH 6.8 buffers by 27.2-, 1.2-, 1.1- and 6.5-fold, respectively. The physicochemical properties of the SD1 formulation were also found to be altered, including its thermal properties, crystal intensity, and chemical interaction. As a result, the hydrogen bonding that occurs between NAF and fumaric acid was identified as a major factor in the increase in NAF dissolution (%). Further, chitosan was observed to contribute to the stability of NAF and SD1, which was assessed over a 3-month period. To our knowledge, this is the first study to employ a polymer-free system to improve the solubilization of NAF.

Abstract
Background Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a rare but feared complication in hand surgery. Although multimodal therapy concepts are recommended, there is only low evidence on efficacy of such approaches. Furthermore, recommendations regarding therapy duration are lacking. Aim of this study was to validate the efficacy of an International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF)-based multidisciplinary rehabilitation concept for treatment of CRPS of the hand and to find correlations between therapy duration and outcome measures. Methods Patients with CRPS of the hand after occupational trauma that underwent an ICF-based rehabilitation program between 2010 and 2014 were included in this retrospective study. Besides demographic data, outcomes included pain (VAS), range of motion assessed by fingertip-to-palm-distance (PTPD) and fingernail-to-table-distance (FTTD) as well as strength in grip, 3-point pinch and lateral pinch. All measures were gathered at admission to and discharge from inpatient rehabilitation therapy as well as at follow-up. Statistical analysis included paired t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation analysis. Results Eighty-nine patients with a mean age of 45 years were included in this study. Duration of rehabilitation therapy was 53 days on average. All outcomes improved significantly during rehabilitation therapy. Pain decreased from 6.4 to 2.2. PTPD of digit 2 to 5 improved from 2.5, 2.8, 2.6, and 2.3 cm to 1.3, 1.4, 1.2, and 1.1 cm, respectively. FTTD of digit 2 to 5 decreased from 1.5, 1.7, 1.5, and 1.6 cm to 0.6, 0.8, 0.7, and 0.7 cm, respectively. Strength ameliorated from 9.5, 3.7, 2.7 kg to 17.9, 5.6, 5.0 kg in grip, lateral pinch, and 3-point pinch, respectively. Improvement in range of motion significantly correlated with therapy duration. 54% of patients participated at follow-up after a mean of 7.5 months. Outcome measures at follow-up remained stable compared to discharge values without significant differences. Conclusion The ICF-based rehabilitation concept is a reliable and durable treatment option for CRPS of the hand. Range of motion improved continuously with therapy duration and thus may serve as an indicator for optimum length of therapy.

Abstract
Solubilization studies of tadalafil (TDF) have recently improved the dissolution (%) using weak acids and bases in our group. However, the weak acid formulations have a low dissolution (%) of TDF as limitation. Thus, the purpose of this study was to improve the dissolution (%) of TDF over 90% in distilled water (DW) by weak acid-chitosan based multi-system. The SD formulation (SD11: TDF, tartaric acid, chitosan, Aerosil®200, and PVP/VA S-630 in a 1:2:1:1:2 weight ratio) showed higher dissolution (%) of TDF by 5.0-, 6.0-, and 5.8-fold at 60 min than that of Cialis® in DW and pH 1.2 and pH 6.8 buffers, respectively. The physical properties of the SD11 formulation were changed. Moreover, the SD11 formulation maintained stability for 3 months. In conclusion, the solubilization of TDF using chitosan was successfully performed for the first time.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the anticancer activity of paclitaxel-loaded poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles (PNPs) based on their shapes and surface modifications in breast cancer cells. We hypothesized that anisotropic-PNPs (AT-PNPs) with PEGylated chitosan (CP) surface modifications and high aspect ratios exhibit higher anticancer activity than PNPs and AT-PNPs with CP surface modifications and low aspect ratios. Six types of PNPs and AT-PNPs with different shapes and surface modifications were successfully prepared. The cellular uptake and cytotoxicity of the AT-PNPs were higher than those of the PNPs, while the cellular uptake and cytotoxicity of the PNPs and AT-PNPs with CP were higher than those of the uncoated PNPs and AT-PNPs. Moreover, all the particles remained stable for 4 months. In conclusion, this study primarily described the preparation of CP-AT-PNPs, and the CP-AT-PNPs2 developed herein are expected to demonstrate promising anticancer effects in animal experiments and clinical studies.

Abstract
Strain sensors can indicate the conditions of concrete structures, but these sensors are only capable of measuring local behaviors of materials. To solve this problem, researchers have introduced conductive materials that can monitor the overall behavior of concrete structures. Steelmaking slag, which contains large amounts of iron oxide (Fe2O3), is conductive, and researchers have considered the addition of this material to improve concrete monitoring. In this study, mechanical and electrical properties of concrete containing steelmaking slag as a binder were evaluated. As the incorporation of steelmaking slag increased, the setting times were delayed, but the compressive strengths were similar within the replacement ratio of 15%. It was found that the addition of steelmaking slag with Fe2O3, the main ingredient of magnetite (Fe3O4), improved the electrical resistivity, piezoresistivity, and sensitivity of the concrete. Drying of the concretes resulted in an increase in electrical resistance and fractional change in resistivity (FCR). Expansion of steelmaking slag, due to contacting of free CaO and moisture under repeated loads, resulted in cracks in the concrete and affected the gauge factor (GF). This study demonstrates the possibility that the addition of steelmaking slag as a binder may provide an economical and environmentally-friendly solution to concrete strain monitoring.

Abstract
To develop proliposome formulations to improve the oral bioavailability of l-glutathione (GSH), GSH-loaded proliposomes were prepared using the granule method. Mannitol was selected as an effective excipient to achieve the desired particle size, entrapment efficiency (EE), and solubility for oral delivery of the final formulation. To evaluate the effect of surface charge of proliposomes on the oral bioavailability of GSH, negative (F1-F4) and positive proliposomes (F5-F9) were prepared. Particle size of F1 and F5 was 167.8 ± 0.9 and 175.9 ± 2.0 nm, and zeta potential of F1 and F5 was -8.1 ± 0.7 and 21.1 ± 2.0 mV, respectively. Encapsulation efficiency of F1 and F5 was 58.6% and 54.7%, respectively. Considering their particle size, zeta potential, and EE, the proliposomes F1 and F5 were adopted as the optimal formulations for further experiments. Solid state characterization of the proliposomes confirmed lipid coating on the surface of mannitol. The release of GSH from F1 and F5 formulations was prolonged until 24 h and pH independent. The total antioxidant capacity of GSH was concentration-dependent and maintained after formulation of GSH proliposomes. Circular dichroism spectroscopy confirmed that the molecular structure of GSH was maintained in the proliposome formulations. GSH proliposomes exhibited no significant changes in particle size and zeta potential for 4 weeks. An oral bioavailability study in rats revealed that F5 exhibited 1.05-, 1.08-, and 1.11-fold higher bioavailability than F1, commercial capsule formulation, and pure GSH, respectively. In conclusion, the prepared GSH proliposomes enhanced the poor bioavailability of GSH and prolonged its duration of action.

Abstract
For sustainable development in the construction industry, blast furnace slag has been used as a substitute for cement in concrete. In contrast, steel-making slag, the second largest by-product in the steel industry, is mostly used as a filler material in embankment construction. This is because steel-making slag has relatively low hydraulicity and a problem with volumetric expansion. However, as the quenching process of slag has improved recently and the steel making process is specifically separated, the properties of steel-making slag has also improved. In this context, there is a need to find a method for recycling steel-making slag as a more highly valued material, such as its potential use as an admixture in concrete. Therefore, in order to confirm the possibility of using electric arc furnace (EAF) oxidizing slag as a binder, a comparative assessment of the mechanical properties of concrete containing electric arc furnace oxidizing slag, steel-making slag, and granulated blast furnace (GBF) slag was performed. The initial and final setting, shrinkage, compressive and split-cylinder tensile strength of the slag concretes were measured. It was found that replacing cement with EAF oxidizing slag delayed the hydration reaction at early ages, with no significant problems in setting time, shrinkage or strength development found.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) can lead to life-threatening outcomes with rapid spread of the carbapenemase gene in solid organ transplantation (SOT) recipients because of limitations of available antibiotics. We examined the characteristics and importance of CPE acquisition in SOT recipients with large numbers of CPE isolates. METHODS Between November 2015 and October 2016, 584 CPE isolates were found in 37 recipients and verified by carbapenemase gene multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR). One hundred recipients with at least 2 negative results in carbapenemase PCR for stool surveillance and no CPE isolates in clinical samples were retrospectively included. RESULTS Most CPE isolates were Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-producing K. pneumoniae (546, 93.5%). The most frequent transplantation organ was lung (43.3%), and the most common sample with CPE isolates other than stool was respiratory tract (22.6%). The median time between SOT and first CPE acquisition was 7 days. All-cause mortality was significantly higher in recipients with CPE than in those without CPE (24.3% vs 10.0%; P = .03). In multivariate regression analysis, stool colonization of vancomycin-resistant Enterococci and/or Clostridium difficile during 30 days before SOT (odds ratio [OR], 3.28; 95% CI, 1.24-8.68; P = .02), lung transplantation (OR, 4.50; 95% CI, 1.19-17.03; P = .03), and intensive care unit stay ≥2 weeks (OR, 6.21; 95% CI, 1.72-22.45; P = .005) were associated with acquisition of CPE. CONCLUSIONS Early posttransplantation CPE acquisition may affect the clinical outcome of SOT recipients. Careful screening for CPE during the early posttransplantation period would be meaningful in recipients with risk factors.

Abstract
Particle shape has been recognized as one of the key properties of nanoparticles in biomedical applications including targeted drug delivery. Targeting ability of shape-engineered particles depends largely on targeting ligands conjugated on the particle surface. However, poor capacity for surface ligand conjugation remains a problem in anisotropic nanoparticles made with biodegradable polymers such as PLGA. In this study, we prepared anisotropic PLGA nanoparticles with abundant conjugatable surface functional groups by a film stretching-based fabrication method with poly (ethylene-alt-maleic acid) (PEMA). Scanning electron microscopy images showed that microrods and nanorods were successfully fabricated by the PEMA-based film stretching method. The presence of surface carboxylic acid groups was confirmed by confocal microscopy and zeta potential measurements. Using the improved film-stretching method, the amount of protein conjugated to the surface of nanorods was increased three-fold. Transferrin-conjugated, nanorods fabricated by the improved method exhibited higher binding and internalization than unmodified counterparts. Therefore, the PEMA-based film-stretching system presented in this study would be a promising fabrication method for non-spherical biodegradable polymeric micro- and nanoparticles with high capacity of surface modifications for enhanced targeted delivery.

Abstract
Sn-aminoclay (SnAC)-templated Fe3O4 nanocomposites (SnAC–Fe3O4) were prepared through a facile approach. The morphology and macro-architecture of the fabricated SnAC–Fe3O4 nanocomposites were characterized by different techniques. A constructed meso/macro-porous structure arising from the homogeneous dispersion of Fe3O4 NPs on the SnAC surface owing to inherent NH3+ functional groups provides new conductive channels for high-efficiency electron transport and ion diffusion. After annealing under argon (Ar) gas, most of SnAC layered structure can be converted to SnO2; this carbonization allows for formation of a protective shell preventing direct interaction of the inner SnO2 and Fe3O4 NPs with the electrolyte. Additionally, the post-annealing formation of Fe–O–C and Sn–O–C bonds enhances the connection of Fe3O4 NPs and SnAC, resulting in improved electrical conductivity, specific capacities, capacity retention, and long-term stability of the nanocomposites. Resultantly, electrochemical measurement exhibits high initial discharge/charge capacities of 980 mA h g−1 and 830 mA h g−1 at 100 mA g−1 in the first cycle and maintains 710 mA h g−1 after 100 cycles, which corresponds to a capacity retention of ∼89%. The cycling performance at 100 mA g−1 is remarkably improved when compared with control SnAC. These outstanding results represent a new direction for development of anode materials without any binder or additive. Sn-aminoclay (SnAC)/Fe3O4 NPs – a promising hybrid electrode to offer great electrochemical performance with a high initial discharge of 980 mA h g−1 and good capacity retention of 89% after 100 cycles.![]()

Abstract
Direct graphene synthesis on substrates via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is an attractive approach for manufacturing flexible electronic devices. The temperature for graphene synthesis must be below ∼200 °C to prevent substrate deformation while fabricating flexible devices on plastic substrates. Herein, we report a process whereby defect-free graphene is directly synthesized on a variety of substrates via the introduction of an ultrathin Ti catalytic layer, due to the strong affinity of Ti to carbon. Ti with a thickness of 10 nm was naturally oxidized by exposure to air before and after the graphene synthesis, and the various functions of neither the substrates nor the graphene were influenced. This report offers experimental evidence of high-quality graphene synthesis on Ti-coated substrates at 150 °C via CVD. The proposed methodology was applied to the fabrication of flexible and transparent thin-film capacitors with top electrodes of high-quality graphene.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Poor oral health is associated with a reduced quality of life and serious illnesses. Consequently, nurses need to be more aware of oral health to improve the general health of residents in care. AIM To evaluate and compare oral health behaviours and levels of salivary haemoglobin and dental biofilm acidogenicity, which can be used to evaluate oral disease activity, between residents and community dwellers in South Korea. METHODS This cross-sectional study included 133 participants: 64 residents and 69 community dwellers. All participants completed a questionnaire and tests to measure their salivary haemoglobin and dental biofilm acidogenicity. RESULTS A higher percentage of community dwellers than of residents brushed their teeth three times a day, cleaned their tongue, used interdental cleaning devices and had visited a dental clinic within 1 year. The levels of salivary haemoglobin and dental biofilm acidogenicity tended to be higher in residents than in community dwellers. CONCLUSION Residents showed poorer oral health behaviours and higher levels of gingival bleeding and acid production by oral bacteria than did community dwellers. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE Nursing staff should enhance their monitoring of oral hygiene status and provide quality oral care to residents through cooperation with dental professionals. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING AND HEALTH POLICY Policymakers should be aware that oral health is an essential component of improving general health and well-being and therefore strive to develop policies to promote oral care services provided to residents. Nursing policies, such as mandating oral care and hands-on training in oral care for nursing staff, are important. We also suggest that factors related to oral care be added to the establishment or accreditation standards of care facilities.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to develop docetaxel-incorporated lipid nanoparticles (DTX-NPs) to improve the pharmacokinetic behaviour of docetaxel (DTX) after oral and parenteral administration via sustained release. DTX-NPs were prepared by nanotemplate engineering technique with palmityl alcohol as a solid lipid and Tween-40/Span-40/Myrj S40 as a surfactants mixture. Spherical DTX-NPs below 100 nm were successfully prepared with a narrow particle size distribution, 96% of incorporation efficiency and 686 times increase in DTX solubility. DTX-NPs showed a sustained release over 24 h in phosphate-buffered saline and simulated gastric and intestinal fluids, while DTX-micelles released DTX completely within 12 h. The half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of DTX-NPs against human breast cancer MCF-7 cells was 1.9 times lower than that of DTX-micelles and DTX solution. DTX-NPs demonstrated 3.7- and 2.8-fold increase in the area under the plasma concentration-time curve compared with DTX-micelles after oral and parenteral administration, respectively.

Abstract
Radiation treatment often leads to irreversible damage to normal salivary glands (SGs) because of their proximity to head and neck cancers. Optimization of the in vitro model of irradiation (IR)-induced SG damage is warranted to investigate pathophysiology and monitor treatment outcome. Here, we present an organotypic spheroid culture model to investigate the impact of IR on SGs and the mechanisms underlying IR-induced structural and functional changes. Human parotid epithelial cells were obtained from human parotid glands and plated on either plastic plates or Matrigel. A number of 3-dimensional (3D) spheroids were assembled on Matrigel. After IR at 10 and 20 Gy, morphologic changes in cells in 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids were observed. As the structural integrity of the 3D spheroids was destroyed by IR, the expression levels of salivary epithelial and structural proteins and genes decreased proportionally with radiation dosage. Furthermore, the spheroid culture allowed better measurement of functional alterations following IR relative to the monolayer culture, in which IR-inflicted spheroids exhibited a loss of acinar-specific cellular functions that enable Ca2+ influx or secretion of α-amylase in response to cholinergic or β-adrenergic agonists. p53-mediated apoptotic cell death was observed under both culture conditions, and its downstream signals increased, such as p53 upregulated modulator of apoptosis (PUMA), Bax, cytochrome c, caspase 9, and caspase 3. These results suggest that the organotypic spheroid culture could provide a useful alternative model for exploration of radiobiology and mode of action of new therapies for prevention of radiation-induced salivary hypofunction.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develop the surface modification of docetaxel nanocrystals (DTX-NCs) with apo-Transferrin human (Tf) for improving the cellular uptake and cytotoxicity of DTX. DTX-NCs were prepared by a nanoprecipitation method, and the surface modified with Tf by an adsorption method (Tf-DTX-NCs). The morphology and particle size of DTX-NCs and Tf-DTX-NCs were characterized using a field emission scanning electron microscope and zetasizer. An in vitro drug release study was performed in phosphate-buffered saline containing 0.5% (w/v) Tween 80 for 24 hours. Cellular uptake was studied at 0.5, 1, and 2 hours. A cytotoxicity study was performed using the A549 (human lung cancer) cell line after 24-, 48-, and 72-hour treatments. The mean sizes were 295±97 and 398±102 nm for DTX-NCs and Tf-DTX-NCs, respectively. Tf-DTX-NCs and DTX-NCs exhibited rapid drug release, whereas DTX (pure) was slowly released. Tf-DTX-NCs showed higher cellular uptake than DTX-NCs in confocal microscopic and quantitative studies. Moreover, at DTX concentration of 100 µg/mL, Tf-DTX-NCs (82.6%±0.8%) showed higher cytotoxicity than DTX-NCs (77.4%±4.1%) and DTX (pure; 20.1%±4.6%) for 72-hour treatment. In conclusion, Tf-DTX-NCs significantly improved the cellular uptake and cytotoxicity of DTX in the A549 cell line.

Abstract
To overcome the toxicity of excipient or blank nanoparticles for drug delivery nano-system, the surface modified paclitaxel nanocrystals (PTX-NC) have been developed. PTX-NCs were prepared by nano-precipitation method. The surface of PTX-NCs were modified by grafting with apo-transferrin (Tf) or hyaluronic acid (HA). The physical properties of PTX-NCs were evaluated by field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), zeta-sizer, zeta-potential, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometry. In vitro drug release study was performed in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) with or without 0.5% (w/v) Tween 80 for 24h. Cellular uptake was studied at time intervals of 0.5, 1, and 2h in MCF-7 cells, and cell growth inhibition study was performed for 24h using MCF-7 cells (cancer cells), and HaCaT cells (normal cells). Three different types of PTX-NCs with a mean size of 236.0±100.6nm (PTX-NC), 302.0±152.0nm (Tf-PTX-NC) and 339±180.6nm (HA-PTX-NC) were successfully prepared. The drug release profiles showed 29.1%/6.9% (PTX (pure)), 40.7%/23.9% (PTX-NC), 50.5%/25.1% (Tf-PTX-NC) and 46.8/24.8% (HA-PTX-NC) in PBS with/without 0.5% (w/v) Tween 80 for 24h, respectively. As per the results, the drug release of PTX-NCs showed the faster release as compared to that of PTX (pure). Surface modified PTX-NCs exhibited higher values for cell permeability than unmodified PTX-NC in the cellular uptake study. Surface modified PTX-NCs inhibited the cell growth approximately to 60% in MCF-7 cells, however effect of surface modified PTX-NCs on normal cell line was lower than the PTX-NC and PTX (pure). In conclusion, biological macromolecules (Tf or HA) surface modified PTX-NC enhanced the cellular uptake and the cell growth inhibition.
