Técnica simplificada de cirurgia do freio labial, abolindo o uso de tesouras cirúrgicas, suturas e do cautério durante o ato operatório. A técnica empregada em 20 pacientes de diversas idades de 5 a 14 anos deu ótimos resultados, obtendo-se às vezes, redução expontânea dos diastemas.

Dual Diagnosis and Treatment: The Experience of a Multiprofessional Team in Mental Health

Introduction

The work was developed with the people hospitalized in the period of 1 year in a psychiatric clinic in Rio de Janeiro city, Brazil. 175 patients who presented dual diagnosis were evaluated.

Objectives

The research aims to know the distribution of the most frequent psychiatric diagnosis associated with the disorders for the use of psychoactive substances. The work also has as objective to assess the treatment of patients carrying these disorders so that there is a better efficiency of the individual treatment plan.

Methods

The work consisted of the evaluation of all patients who were admitted to the clinic in the period of 1 year, using the ICD-10 for the diagnosis of dual pathologies. All the patients were assessed by the multiprofessional team, composed by general practicioner, psychiatrist, psychologist, pharmaceutic, therapist in chemical dependence, family therapist and physiotherapist. The patients were treated with the use of psychopharms, cognitive behavioral psychotherapy, 12-step program, art therapy and moderate physical activity. Family members of all patients were also interviewed.

Results

In the evaluation conducted by the team, it was found the following distribution of the most frequent diagnosis associated to disorder for the use of psychoactive substances: depression (26.3%), personality disorder (22.9%), bipolar disorder (22.3%), non-schizophrenic psychosis (12.6%), schizophrenia (9.1%), and other diagnosis (6.8%).

Conclusions

The formulation of the dual diagnosis provided a better approach of the patients on the part of the team, promoting the strengthening of the therapeutic bond and causing positive impact on the evolution of these disorders.

Patterns and Universals of Adult Romantic Attachment Across 62 Cultural Regions

As part of the International Sexuality Description Project, a total of 17,804 participants from 62 cultural regions completedthe RelationshipQuestionnaire(RQ), a self-reportmeasure of adult romanticattachment. Correlational analyses within each culture suggested that the Model of Self and the Model of Other scales of the RQ were psychometrically valid within most cultures. Contrary to expectations, the Model of Self and Model of Other dimensions of the RQ did not underlie the four-category model of attachment in the same way across all cultures. Analyses of specific attachment styles revealed that secure romantic attachment was normative in 79% of cultures and that preoccupied romantic attachment was particularly prevalent in East Asian cultures. Finally, the romantic attachment profiles of individual nations were correlated with sociocultural indicators in ways that supported evolutionary theories of romantic attachment and basic human mating strategies.

HLA antigens and lymphocytes in proliferative vitreoretinopathy

An immunohistopathological study was performed on 33 epiretinal membrane specimens obtained during vitreoretinal surgery from patients with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment complicated with proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR). Immunofluorescence and immunoperoxidase methods were used to detect major histocompatibility complex or HLA antigens and immunocompetent cells, and to identify the cellular and the extracellular component of the proliferative tissue. The following antigens were detected in epiretinal membranes: cytokeratin in 18 (of 18 cases studied for this antigen), glial fibrillary acidic protein in 20 (of 20), vimentin in 20 (of 20), actin in 16 (of 18), fibronectin in 20 (of 20), macrophage CD68 in 16 (of 18), leukocyte common antigen in 12 (of 18), T-cell CD45R in 13 (of 22), HLA-ABC in 27 (of 33), HLA-DR in all the 33 membranes and HLA-DR alpha chain in 32 of 33 membranes. We observed the presence of macrophages and of an activated T-cell population in PVR membranes. HLA-DR antigen expression was found on pigmented and nonpigmented epithelial cells and on mononuclear cells in all epiretinal membranes. The HLA-DR expression on retinal pigmented epithelial cells could play a role in triggering a local immune response in PVR. These findings suggest the involvement of immunological phenomena and probable interactions between the immune system and peptide growth factors.
