Abstract
Linker installation is a potent strategy for integrating specific properties and functionalities into metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). This method enhances the structural diversity of frameworks and enables the precise construction of robust structures, complementing the conventional postsynthetic modification approaches, by fully leveraging open metal sites and active organic linkers at targeting locations. Herein, we demonstrated an insertion of a d-camphorate linker into a flexible Zr-based MOF, PCN-700, through linker installation. The resultant homochiral MOF not only exhibits remarkable stability but also functions as a highly efficient luminescent material for enantioselective sensing. Competitive absorption and energy/electron transfer processes contribute to the sensing performance, while the difference in binding affinities dominates the enantioselectivity. This work presents a straightforward route to crafting stable homochiral MOFs for enantioselective sensing.

A Robust Pyrazolate Metal-Organic Framework for Efficient Catalysis of Dehydrogenative C-O Cross Coupling Reaction. J Am Chem Soc 2024; 146:14174-14181. Abstract
Construction of robust heterogeneous catalysts with atomic precision is a long-sought pursuit in the catalysis field due to its fundamental significance in taming chemical transformations. Herein, we present the synthesis of a single-crystalline pyrazolate metal-organic framework (MOF) named PCN-300, bearing a lamellar structure with two distinct Cu centers and one-dimensional (1D) open channels when stacked. PCN-300 exhibits exceptional stability in aqueous solutions across a broad pH range from 1 to 14. In contrast, its monomeric counterpart assembled through hydrogen bonding displays limited stability, emphasizing the role of Cu-pyrazolate coordination bonds in framework robustness. Remarkably, the synergy of the 1D open channels, excellent stability, and the active Cu-porphyrin sites endows PCN-300 with outstanding catalytic activity in the cross dehydrogenative coupling reaction to form the C-O bond without the "compulsory" ortho-position directing groups (yields up to 96%), outperforming homogeneous Cu-porphyrin catalysts. Moreover, PCN-300 exhibits superior recyclability and compatibility with various phenol substrates. Control experiments reveal the synergy between the Cu-porphyrin center and framework in PCN-300 and computations unveil the free radical pathway of the reaction. This study highlights the power of robust pyrazolate MOFs in directly activating C-H bonds and catalyzing challenging chemical transformations in an environmentally friendly manner.

Abstract
Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) is an environmental contaminant ubiquitous in water resources, which as a xenobiotic and carcinogenic agent, severely endangers human health. The development of techniques for its efficient removal is therefore highly sought after. Herein, we demonstrate an unprecedented zirconium-based MOF (PCN-999) possessing Zr6 and biformate-bridged (Zr6)2 clusters simultaneously, which exhibits an exceptional PFOA uptake of 1089 mg/g (2.63 mmol/g), representing a ca. 50% increase over the previous record for MOFs. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies and computational analysis revealed that the (Zr6)2 clusters offer additional open coordination sites for hosting PFOA. The coordinated PFOAs further enhance the interaction between coordinated and free PFOAs for physical adsorption, boosting the adsorption capacity to an unparalleled high standard. Our findings represent a major step forward in the fundamental understanding of the MOF-based PFOA removal mechanism, paving the way toward the rational design of next-generation adsorbents for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) removal.

Abstract
Objectives: To explore the antitumor effects of redox-responsive nanoparticles containing platinum(Ⅳ)-NP@Pt(Ⅳ) in ovarian cancer. Methods: Redox-responsive polymer carriers were synthesized. Polymer carriers and platinum(Ⅳ)-Pt(Ⅳ) can self-assemble into NP@Pt(Ⅳ). Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry was performed to detect the platinum release from NP@Pt(Ⅳ) in reducing environment and the platinum content in ovarian cancer cells ES2 treated with cisplatin, Pt(Ⅳ) and NP@Pt(Ⅳ). The proliferation ability of the ovarian cancer cells were detected by 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Cellular apoptosis was assessed by flow cytometry. Collection of primary ovarian cancer tissues from patients with primary high-grade serous ovarian cancer who were surgically treated at the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences from October to December 2022. The high-grade serous ovarian cancer patient-derived xenograft (PDX) mice were intravenously injected with Cy7.5 labeled NP@Pt(Ⅳ) followed by in vivo imaging system. Mice were treated with PBS, cisplatin and NP@Pt(Ⅳ). Tumor volume and weight were measured in each group. Necrosis, apoptosis and cell proliferation of tumor tissues were detected by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining, TUNEL fluorescence staining and Ki-67 immunohistochemistry staining. Body weight and HE staining of heart, liver, spleen, lung and kidney of mice in each group were measured. Results: The platinum release of NP@Pt(Ⅳ) after 48 hours in reducing environment was 76.29%, which was significantly higher than that of 26.82% in non-reducing environment (P<0.001). The platinum content in ES2 cells after 4 hours and 7 hours of treatment with NP@Pt(Ⅳ) (308.59, 553.15 ng/million cells) were significantly higher than those of Pt(Ⅳ) (100.21, 180.31 ng/million cells) and cisplatin (43.36, 50.36 ng/million cells, P<0.05). The half inhibitory concentrations of NP@Pt(Ⅳ) in ovarian cancer cells ES2, A2780, A2780DDP were 1.39, 1.42 and 4.62 μmol/L, respectively, which were lower than those of Pt(IV) (2.89, 7.27, and 16.74 μmol/L) and cisplatin (5.21, 11.85, and 71.98 μmol/L). The apoptosis rate of ES2 cells treated with NP@Pt(Ⅳ) was (33.91±3.80)%, which was significantly higher than that of Pt(Ⅳ) [(16.28±2.41)%] and cisplatin [(15.01±1.17)%, P<0.05]. In high-grade serous ovarian cancer PDX model, targeted accumulation of Cy7.5 labeled NP@Pt(Ⅳ) at tumor tissue could be observed. After the treatment, the tumor volume of mice in NP@Pt(IV) group was (130±98) mm3, which was significantly lower than those in control group [(1 349±161) mm3, P<0.001] and cisplatin group [(715±293) mm3, P=0.026]. The tumor weight of mice in NP@Pt(IV) group was (0.17±0.09)g, which was significantly lower than those in control group [(1.55±0.11)g, P<0.001] and cisplatin group [(0.82±0.38)g, P=0.029]. The areas of tumor necrosis and apoptosis in mice treated with NP@Pt(Ⅳ) were higher than those in mice treated with cisplatin. Immunohistochemical staining revealed that there were low expressions of Ki-67 at tumor tissues of mice treated with NP@Pt(Ⅳ) compared with cisplatin. The change in body weight of mice in NP@Pt(Ⅳ) group was not significantly different from that of the control group [(18.56±2.04)g vs.(20.87±0.79)g, P=0.063]. Moreover, the major organs of the heart, liver, spleen, lung, and kidney were also normal by HE staining. Conclusion: Redox-responsive NP@Pt(Ⅳ), produced in this study can enhance the accumulation of cisplatin in ovarian cancer cells and improve the efficacy of ovarian cancer chemotherapy.

Abstract
One of the hallmarks of multicomponent metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is to finely tune their active centers to achieve product selectivity. In particular, obtaining bimetallic MOF hollow structures with precisely tailored redox centers under the same topology is still challenging despite a recent surge of such efforts. Herein, we present an engineering strategy named "cluster labilization" to generate hierarchically porous MOF composites with hollow structures and tunable active centers. By partially replacing zirconium with cerium in the hexanuclear clusters of UiO-66, unevenly distributed yolk-shell structures (YSS) were formed. Through acid treatment or annealing of the YSS precursor, single-shell hollow structures (SSHS) or double-shell hollow structures (DSHS) can be obtained, respectively. The active centers in SSHS and DSHS differ in their species, valence, and spatial locations. More importantly, YSS, SSHS, and DSHS with distinct active centers and microenvironments exhibit tunable catalytic activity, reversed selectivity, and high stability in the tandem reaction and the photoreaction.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the mechanism of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) and cancer associated fibroblasts (CAF) jointly generate chemo-resistance in epithelial-ovarian cancer and their effect on prognosis. Methods: A total of 119 patients with high-grade ovarian serous cancer who received surgery in Cancer Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences from September 2009 to October 2017 were collected. The clinico-pathological data and follow-up data were complete. Multivariate Cox regression model was used to analyze the prognostic factors. Ovarian cancer tissue chips of patients in our hospital were prepared. EnVision two-step method immunohistochemistry was used to detect the protein expression levels of STAT3, the specific markers of CAF activation, fibroblast activating protein (FAP), and type Ⅰ collagen (COL1A1) secreted by CAF. The relationship between the expression of STAT3, FAP, COL1A1 protein and drug resistance and prognosis of ovarian cancer patients was analyzed, and the correlation between the expression of three proteins was analyzed. These results were verified through the gene expression and prognostic information of human ovarian cancer tissues collected in the GSE26712 dataset of gene expression omnibus (GEO) database. Results: (1) Multivariate Cox regression model analysis showed that chemotherapy resistance was an independent risk factor for overall survival (OS) of ovarian cancer (P<0.001). (2) The expression levels of STAT3, FAP, and COL1A1 proteins in chemotherapy resistant patients were significantly higher than those in chemotherapy sensitive patients (all P<0.05). Patients with high expression of STAT3, FAP, and COL1A1 had significantly shorter OS than those with low expression (all P<0.05). According to the human ovarian cancer GSE26712 dataset of GEO database, patients with high expression of STAT3, FAP, and COL1A1 also showed shorter OS than patients with low expression (all P<0.05), the verification results were consistent with the detection results of ovarian cancer patients in our hospital. (3) Correlation analysis showed that the protein level of STAT3 was positively correlated with FAP and COL1A1 in our hospital's ovarian cancer tissue chips (r=0.47, P<0.001; r=0.30, P=0.006), the analysis of GEO database GSE26712 dataset showed that the expression of STAT3 gene and FAP, COL1A1 gene were also significantly positively correlated (r=0.31, P<0.001; r=0.52, P<0.001). Conclusion: STAT3 and CAF could promote chemotherapy resistance of ovarian cancer and lead to poor prognosis.

Abstract
A linker design strategy is developed to attain novel polynuclear rare-earth (RE) metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with unprecedented topologies. We uncover the critical role of ortho-functionalized tricarboxylate ligands in directing the construction of highly connected RE MOFs. The acidity and conformation of the tricarboxylate linkers were altered by substituting with diverse functional groups at the ortho position of the carboxyl groups. For instance, the acidity difference between carboxylate moieties resulted in forming three hexanuclear RE MOFs with novel (3,3,3,10,10)-c wxl, (3,12)-c gmx, and (3,3,3,12)-c joe topologies, respectively. In addition, when a bulky methyl group was introduced, the incompatibility between the net topology and ligand conformation guided the co-appearance of hexanuclear and tetranuclear clusters, generating a novel 3-periodic MOF with a (3,3,8,10)-c kyw net. Interestingly, a fluoro-functionalized linker prompted the formation of two unusual trinuclear clusters and produced a MOF with a fascinating (3,8,10)-c lfg topology, which could be gradually replaced by a more stable tetranuclear MOF with a new (3,12)-c lee topology with extended reaction time. This work enriches the polynuclear clusters library of RE MOFs and unveils new opportunities to construct MOFs with unprecedented structural complexity and vast application potential.

Abstract
Enzymatic catalysis has fueled considerable interest from chemists due to its high efficiency and selectivity. However, the structural complexity and vulnerability hamper the application potentials of enzymes. Driven by the practical demand for chemical conversion, there is a long-sought quest for bioinspired catalysts reproducing and even surpassing the functions of natural enzymes. As nanoporous materials with high surface areas and crystallinity, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) represent an exquisite case of how natural enzymes and their active sites are integrated into porous solids, affording bioinspired heterogeneous catalysts with superior stability and customizable structures. In this review, we comprehensively summarize the advances of bioinspired MOFs for catalysis, discuss the design principle of various MOF-based catalysts, such as MOF-enzyme composites and MOFs embedded with active sites, and explore the utility of these catalysts in different reactions. The advantages of MOFs as enzyme mimetics are also highlighted, including confinement, templating effects, and functionality, in comparison with homogeneous supramolecular catalysts. A perspective is provided to discuss potential solutions addressing current challenges in MOF catalysis.

Abstract
To precisely evaluate the potential of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for gas separation and purification applications, it is crucial to understand how various molecules competitively adsorb inside MOFs. In this paper, we combine in situ infrared spectroscopy with ab initio calculations to investigate the mechanisms associated with coadsorption of several small molecules, including CO, NO, and CO2 inside the prototypical structure Ni-MOF-74. Surprisingly, we find that the displacement of CO bound inside Ni-MOF-74 (binding energy of 53 kJ/mol) is readily driven by CO2 exposure, even though CO2 has a noticeably weaker binding energy of only 41 kJ/mol; meanwhile, the significantly more strongly binding NO molecule (90 kJ/mol) is not able to easily displace bound CO inside Ni-MOF74. These results show that single-phase binding energies of a molecule inside the MOF cannot completely describe their interaction with the MOF in the presence of other guest molecules. We unveil many crucial factors, such as the kinetic barrier, partial pressure, secondary binding sites, and guest-host/lateral interactions that control the coadsorption process and, combined with the binding energy, are better descriptors of the behavior and adsorption of gas mixtures inside MOFs.

Abstract
Methomyl is a carbamate insecticide widely used in pesticides. Most of the poisoning methods are through digestive tract, respiratory tract and skin contact. At present, there is no report of poisoning caused by intramuscular injection. A case of poisoning caused by intramuscular injection of methomyl was analyzed retrospectively. About 4 minutes later, cholinergic crisis and central inhibition occurred. Venovenous-Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (VV-ECMO) and atropine were given quickly. Finally, the patient was successfully rescued and had a good prognosis. After intramuscular injection of methomyl, cholinergic crisis can occur rapidly, and the onset rate is significantly faster than that of digestive tract, respiratory tract and skin contact.

Abstract
The incidence and mortality of HCC in China account for approximately 50% of all cases worldwide. Low early diagnosis rate and high postoperative recurrence rate are two major causes for poor 5-year survival rate of HCC patients in China. At present, multiple problems such as low performance and compliance of screening technology and lack of effective markers for predicting postoperative recurrence, remain to be resolved. Due to the simplicity and accuracy, new molecular markers, such as liquid biopsy, are expected to serve as supplementary tools to traditional screening and early warning approaches, thereby realizing early detection and accurate treatment of HCC. In this article, research progress upon the clinical application of liquid biopsy in early screening and prediction of postoperative recurrence of HCC was reviewed, and prospects the future research.

Abstract
Efficient enantioselective separation using porous materials requires tailored and diverse pore environments to interact with chiral substrates; yet, current cage materials usually feature uniform pores. Herein, we report two porous assemblies, PCC-60 and PCC-67, using isostructural octahedral cages with intrinsic microporous cavities of 1.5 nm. The PCC-67 adopts a densely packed mode, while the PCC-60 is a hierarchically porous assembly featuring interconnected 2.4 nm mesopores. Compared with PCC-67, the PCC-60 demonstrates excellent enantioselectivity and recyclability in separating racemic diols and amides. This solid adsorbent PCC-60 is further utilized as a chiral stationary phase for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), enabling the complete separation of six valuable pharmaceutical intermediates. According to quantitative dynamic experiments, the hierarchical pores facilitate the mass transfer within the superstructure, shortening the equilibrium time for adsorbing chiral substrates. Notably, this hierarchically porous material PCC-60 indicates remarkably higher enantiomeric excess (ee) values in separating racemates than PCC-67 with uniform microporous cavities. Control experiments confirm that the presence of mesopores enables the PCC-60 to separate bulky substrates. These results uncover the traditionally underestimated role of hierarchical porosity in porous-superstructure-based enantioseparation.

Abstract
Nipah virus disease (NVD) is a newly emerged zoonosis with a case fatality rate of 40%-75%. NVD is a severe threat to human health and the development of livestock farming. NVD has become one of the emerging infectious diseases with great concern globally during more than 20 years. Nipah virus (NiV) is a pathogen for NVD, the natural host of which is Fruit bats of the Pteropodidae family. The clinical spectrum of NiV infection is broad, including asymptomatic infection, acute respiratory infection, fatal encephalitis, and even death. Since NiV was first identified in Malaysia in 1999, it has been prevalent mainly in Southeast Asia and South Asia. NiV is primarily transmitted to humans through bat-pig-human, contaminated food. Currently, there are no specific therapeutic drugs and vaccines for NVD. Although there are no cases of NVD reported in China, which has close personnel and trade exchanges with major NVD-endemic countries, and NiV antibody has also been detected in relevant bats. There is a potential risk of importing NVD and domestic outbreaks in the future in this country. This paper provides a systematic review of the research progress in the prevention and control of NVD etiology, epidemiology, clinical manifestations and laboratory diagnosis to help relevant staff to understand NVD more comprehensively and systematically.

Abstract
The clinical data of 47 patients [41 males, 6 females, aged (62±7) years] treated at the Department of Neurology of the Sixth Medical Center of PLA General Hospital from October 2018 to October 2020 who were diagnosed with severe bilateral vertebral artery stenosis/occlusion through Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) were retrospectively collected, and the characteristics of the compensatory pathways of collateral circulation were determined. Results showed that there were 8 intracranial and extracranial compensatory pathways, with posterior communicating artery as the major type (21 cases) for intracranial ones and deep carotid artery as the major type (16 cases) for extracranial ones. As the establishment of the compensatory pathway is closely related to the lesion site, DSA assessment for patients with severe bilateral vertebral artery stenosis/occlusion is helpful for clinicians to make judgement on prognosis of patients and choose individualized treatment plans.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the cost-effectiveness of anti-tumor associated antigen autoantibody (TAAb) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) screening in cirrhosis population with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). Methods: A simulated cohort of 40-year-old patients with CHB cirrhosis was established with a sample size of 10 000. Using TAAb screening alone or TAAb and AFP screening in parallel (TAAb + AFP) as the research strategy, and liver ultrasound and AFP screening in parallel (liver ultrasound + AFP) as the control strategy, the decision analysis Markov model was constructed and the model validity was evaluated. The 6-month cycle was simulated using TreeAge Pro 2020 software. Cost and quality-adjusted life years (QALY) were calculated. Incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) was used to compare the two strategies, and sensitivity analysis was used to evaluate the uncertainty of results. Results: The Markov model had a total of 11 outcomes, of which 7 were natural outcomes and 4 wereclinical intervention outcomes, and the goodness of fit was 0.969. The lifetime screening cost of TAAb+AFP strategy for HCC screening was 249 612 yuan/case, and the QALY per capita was 7.704 years. Compared with liver ultrasound +AFP strategy (247 805 yuan/case), the total health cost increased by 1 807 yuan/case, and the QALY obtained was 0.014. The ICER was 127 635 yuan /QALY. When the TAAb screening fee was higher than 889.552 yuan, or the discount rate was higher than 0.068, or the antiviral treatment compliance was lower than 45.1%, ICER > 212 676 yuan /QALY. When the single TAAb screening fee was 400-600 yuan, the TAAB+AFP strategy had cost effective value. When the willingness to pay was 70 892, 141 784 and 212 676 yuan /QALY, the probability of cost-effectiveness of TAAb+AFP strategy was 70.6%, 75.3% and 77.8%, respectively. Abstract
Porcelain tooth technology is widely used in the treatment of oral diseases, but there are few reports on the possible occupational hazard factors in the process of porcelain tooth production. Porcelain teeth production will produced a large amount of silica dust and metal dust during the grinding process. The technical workers who have been engaged in this work for a long time are very prone to pneumoconiosis due to their poor personal protection awareness. This paper analyzed the clinical data of a pneumoconiosis patient engaged in porcelain tooth making, and analyzed the possible occupational hazard factors in the process of porcelain teeth production, so as to improve the understanding of relevant enterprises, technical workers and medical personnel on the disease and reduce the risk of porcelain teeth production workers suffering from pneumoconiosis.

Homochiral Dodecanuclear Lanthanide "Cage in Cage" for Enantioselective Separation. J Am Chem Soc 2021; 143:12560-12566. Abstract
It is extremely difficult to anticipate the structure and the stereochemistry of a complex, particularly when the ligand is flexible and the metal node adopts diverse coordination numbers. When trivalent lanthanides (LnIII) and enantiopure amino acid ligands are utilized as building blocks, self-assembly sometimes yields rare chiral polynuclear structures. In this study, an enantiopure carboxyl-functionalized amino acid-based ligand with C3 symmetry reacts with lanthanum cations to give a homochiral porous coordination cage, (Δ/Λ)12-PCC-57. The dodecanuclear lanthanide cage has an unprecedented octahedral "cage-in-cage" framework. During the self-assembly, the chirality is transferred from the enantiopure ligand and fixed by the binuclear lanthanide cluster to give 12 metal centers that have either Δ or Λ homochiral stereochemistry. The cage exhibits excellent enantioselective separation of racemic alcohols, 2,3-dihydroquinazolinones, and multiple commercially available drugs. This finding exhibits a rare example of a multinuclear lanthanide complex with a dual-walled topology and homochirality. The highly ordered self-assembly and self-sorting of flexible amino acids and lanthanides shed light on the chiral transformation between different complicated artificial systems that mimic natural enzymes.

Defect Termination in the UiO-66 Family of Metal-Organic Frameworks: The Role of Water and Modulator. J Am Chem Soc 2021; 143:6328-6332. Abstract
The defect concentration in the prototypical metal-organic framework UiO-66 can be well controlled during synthesis, leading to precisely tunable physicochemical properties for this structure. However, there has been a long-standing debate regarding the nature of the compensating species present at the defective sites. Here, we present unambiguous spectroscopic evidence that the missing-linker defect sites in an ambient environment are compensated with both carboxylate and water (bound through intermolecular hydrogen bonding), which is further supported by ab initio calculations. In contrast to the prevailing assumption that the monocarboxylate groups (COO-) of the modulators form bidentate bonding with two Zr4+ sites, COO- is found to coordinate to an open Zr4+ site in an unidentate mode. The neighboring Zr4+ site is terminated by a coordinating H2O molecule, which helps to stabilize the COO- group. This finding not only provides a new understanding of defect termination in UiO-66, but also sheds light on the origin of its catalytic activity.

Abstract
Globally, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most highly morbid, fatal, and malignant tumors, with a poor prognosis in advanced stage. In the past decade, new advances have been emerged in the field of HCC therapy, including surgery, ablation, transvascular intervention, external radiotherapy, and systemic therapy. Among them, systemic treatments, particularly targeted and immune checkpoint drugs have made outstanding progress, significantly improving the five-year survival rate of liver cancer patients. In addition, the management of liver cancer patients, especially the screening management and multidisciplinary collaborative diagnosis and treatment of high-risk populations, has significantly increased the early diagnosis rate and improved the overall treatment efficacy. Considering our country's condition and the development of existing treatment, the most effective strategy to reduce HCC mortality in the future is to accurately identify high-risk populations, increase the early diagnosis rate, and formulate personalized treatment strategies.

Abstract
Further development of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) requires an establishment of hierarchical interaction within the framework. Herein, we report a series of mesoporous rare-earth (RE) MOFs that are constructed from an unusual 12-connected π-stacked pyrene secondary building unit (SBU) and a typical 12-connected RE6 cluster (RE=Eu, Y, Yb, Tb, Ce). The judicious design of a butterfly-shape pyrene ligand with a tert-butyl substituent enables the formation of the disordered 12-connected organic SBUs on its strong intermolecular π-π interactions. The assembly of 12-connected inorganic cuboctahedron SBUs and 12-connected organic distorted hexagonal prism SBUs generates an unprecedented network that can be further simplified into a 4,4-connected pts net linked from planar square and tetrahedra. This work provides fresh insights into the design and synthesis of frameworks constructed from coordinatively, covalently, and noncovalently linked building units.

Abstract
The exploration of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) through the rational design of building units with specific sizes, geometries, and symmetries is essential for enriching the structural diversity of porous solids for applications including storage, separation, and conversion. However, it is still a challenge to directly synthesize rare-earth (RE) MOFs with less connected clusters as a thermodynamically favored product. Herein, we report a systematic investigation on the influence of size, rigidity, and symmetry of linkers over the formation of RE-tetracarboxylate MOFs and uncover the critical role of linker desymmetrization in constructing RE-MOFs with eight-connected hexanuclear clusters. Our results on nine new RE-MOFs, PCN-50X (X = 1-9), indicate that utilization of trapezoidal or tetrahedral linkers provides accesses to traditionally unattainable RE-tetracarboxylate MOFs with 8-c hexanuclear nodes, while the introduction of square or rectangular linkers during the assembly of RE-MOFs based on polynuclear clusters typically leads to the MOFs constructed from 12-c nodes with underlying shp topology. By rational linker design, MOFs with two unprecedented (4, 8)-c nets, lxl and jun, can also be obtained. This work highlights linker desymmetrization as a powerful strategy to enhance MOFs' structural complexity and access MOF materials with nondefault topologies that can be potentially used for separation and catalysis.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), constructed from organic linkers and inorganic building blocks, are well-known for their high crystallinity, high surface areas, and high component tunability. The stability of MOFs is a key prerequisite for their potential practical applications in areas including storage, separation, catalysis, and biomedicine since it is essential to guarantee the framework integrity during utilization. However, MOFs are prone to destruction under external stimuli, considerably hampering their commercialization. In this Review, we provide an overview of the situations where MOFs undergo destruction due to external stimuli such as chemical, thermal, photolytic, radiolytic, electronic, and mechanical factors and offer guidelines to avoid unwanted degradation happened to the framework. Furthermore, we discuss possible destruction mechanisms and their varying derived products. In particular, we highlight cases that utilize MOF instability to fabricate varying materials including hierarchically porous MOFs, monolayer MOF nanosheets, amorphous MOF liquids and glasses, polymers, metal nanoparticles, metal carbide nanoparticles, and carbon materials. Finally, we provide a perspective on the utilization of MOF destruction to develop advanced materials with a superior hierarchy for various applications.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of 6% hydroxyethyl starch 130/0.4(HES) on protein in severe trauma orthopedic patients after acute hemodilution. Methods: Fourty-eight severe trauma patients who met the inclusion criteria were selected from June 2018 to December 2018 in Yantaishan Hospital, and were randomly divided into two groups (n=24): group A and group B. Group A was ringer's sodium lactate control group, and group B was HES treatment group. After the tracheal intubation, the patients of group A were infused with 10% blood volume of sodium lactate ringer at 0.5 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1), and the patients in group B were infused with 10% blood volume of HES at 0.5 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1). Total protein (TP), human serum albumin (HSA), numbers of circulating endothelium cells (CEC), C-reactive protein (CRP), and serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-10 and IL-6 were measured immediately after acute hemodilution (T(0)), 24 hours (T(1)) and 48 hours (T(2)) after acute hemodilution. After infusion into human body, HES bond to HSA, and fluorescence spectroscopy was used to analyze the binding relationship between HES and HSA in order to further study the effects of HES on HSA. Results: The HSA, TP, CEC, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-10, CRP at T(0) of group A were (38±5) g/L, (66±5) g/L, (5.5±0.4)/0.9 μl, (24±5) μg/L, (8.9±0.8) μg/L, (44±6) μg/L, (13.6±1.4) mg/L; While at T(1) were (33±5) g/L, (60±6) g/L, (10.2±0.7)/0.9 μl, (87±9) μg/L, (38.8±2.3) μg/L, (57±7) μg/L, (23.4±2.4) mg/L. The HSA, TP, CEC, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-10, CRP at T(0) of group B were(38±4)g/L, (66±5) g/L, (5.4±0.6)/0.9 μl, (24±6) μg/L, (9.1±0.9) μg/L, (45±6) μg/L, (13.4±1.8) mg/L; While at T(1) were (35±5)g/L, (62±5)g/L, (7.4±0.6)/0.9 μl, (70±8) μg/L, (29.5±3.1) μg/L, (72±6) μg/L, (19.7±2.2) mg/L. HSA and TP decreased at T(1) in group A as compared with T(0) (P<0.05), contrarily CEC increased significantly at T(1), TNF-ɑ, IL-6, IL-10 and CRP augmented at T(1) and T(2) in two groups (P<0.05). In comparison with the patients of group A, CEC decreased significantly at T(1) (P<0.05). TNF-ɑ, IL-6, CRP reduced significantly at T(1) and T(2) (P<0.05), but IL-10 increased at T(1) and T(2) in group B (P<0.05). The secondary structure of HSA changed after HES was added in the HES solution. The fluorescence intensity of HSA decreased with the increase of HES concentration, which suggested that HES induced HSA fluorescence quenching. HES could bind to Trp-214 residue in HSA at a molecular ration of 1∶1. Conclusions: 6% HES reduces the occurrence of low protein level in severe trauma patients after operation. HES could bind to Trp-214 amino acid residue in HSA and form the complex at a molecular ratio of 1∶1. The formation of HES-HSA complex increases the volume of HES, avoids the vascular leakage, protects the vascular endothelial cells, and induces anti-inflammatory immunity in the patients with capillary syndrome.

Abstract
Sequence-defined nucleic acids and proteins with internal monomer sequences and arrangement are vital components in the living world, as a result of billions of years of molecular evolution. These natural hierarchical systems have inspired researchers to develop artificial hierarchical materials that can mimic similar functions such as replication, recognition, and information storage. In this Outlook, we describe the conceptual introduction of hierarchy into the design of metal-organic framework (MOF) materials. Starting with a history and background of hierarchical MOF synthesis and applications, we discuss further mesoscopic assembly strategies of MOF crystallites into hierarchical primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary architectures. This is followed by a highlight of the utilization of modular total synthesis for crafting MOFs with hierarchical compositions. The multiscale control over hierarchical MOF architecture formation can be rationally achieved by designing stepwise synthetic routes based on the knowledge from various fields including coordination chemistry, organic chemistry, reticular chemistry, and nanoscience. Altogether, this outlook is expected to shed light on these essential but embryonic materials and might offer inspiration for the development of the next generation of smart MOF materials with controllable heterogeneity and tailorable architectures.

Abstract
The idea of modularity in organic total synthesis has promoted the construction of diverse targeted natural products by varying the building blocks and assembly sequences. Yet its utilization has been mainly limited to the synthesis of molecular compounds based on covalent bonds. In this work, we expand the conceptual scope of modular synthesis into framework materials, which bridges metal- and covalent organic frameworks (MOFs and COFs) hierarchically in reticular chemistry. While the assembly sequences are determined by the coordination or the covalent bond strengths, a modular synthesis strategy which progressively links simple building blocks into increasingly sophisticated superstructures was reported. As a result, a series of hierarchical COF-on-MOF structures with architectural intricacy were obtained through sequence-defined reactions of diverse building blocks. The tunability of spatial apportionment, compositions, and functionality was successfully managed in these framework materials. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the synthesis of COF@MOF composites and also the first discovery of controlled COF alignment. This generalizable modularity strategy will not only accelerate the discovery of multicomponent framework materials by the hierarchical assembly of MOFs and COFs but also offer a predictable retrosynthetic route to smart materials with unusual tunability owing to the diverse inorganic or organic building units.

Abstract
Varying levels of hierarchy in metal–organic framework (MOF) superstructures are achieved through seed-mediated evolution of multiple MOF modules.
The idea of hierarchy, widely observed in natural and artificial worlds, has been extensively explored in chemistry and materials science. Similar to proteins which contain primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary structures, varying levels of hierarchy in metal–organic framework (MOF) superstructures can also be achieved. In this work, we initiate a systematic study on the morphological evolution of hierarchical superstructures with the assistance of seeded growth and explore the assembly of multiple modular MOFs into superstructures with enhanced hierarchy and diversity. By utilizing MOF-74-III spherulite superstructures as seeds, multiple quaternary architectures were obtained depending on the lengths of organic linker precursors. The resulting superstructures with superior hierarchy represent a unique porous material which contains multiple modules with diverse morphologies. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report that utilizes tertiary superstructures as seeds in MOF synthesis, which leads to unusual and diverse behaviors during secondary growth. This synthetic approach not only provides a facile method to establish hierarchy in porous materials, but also enables the fabrication of multiscale heterostructures through secondary growth on MOF seeds.

Abstract
Abstract
Despite numerous advantages, applications of conventional microporous metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are hampered by their limited pore sizes, such as in heterogeneous catalysis and guest delivery, which usually involve large molecules. Construction of hierarchically porous MOFs (HP-MOFs) is vital to achieve the controllable augmentation of MOF pore size to mesopores or even macropores, which can enhance the diffusion kinetics of guests and improve the storage capacity. This review article focuses on recent advances in the methodology of HP-MOF synthesis, covering preparation of HP-MOFs with intrinsic hierarchical pores, and modulated, templated and template-free synthetic strategies for HP-MOFs. The key factors which affect the formation of HP-MOF architectures are summarized and discussed, followed by a brief review of their applications in heterogeneous catalysis and guest encapsulation. Overall, this review presents a roadmap that will guide the future design and development of HP-MOF materials with molecular precision and mesoscopic complexity.

Objective: To analyze the prognostic factors on multidisciplinary team patients for diagnosis, and treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods: This retrospective study enrolled 132 HBsAg positive patients with HCC. MDT diagnostic approach was conducted at our hospital between 1 January 2015 and 31 December 2015, and all patients were followed up to 31 December 2017. Groups were arranged according to variables such as Barcelona stage, MDT compliance, and multidisciplinary combination therapy. TTP and OS were statistically analyzed. Results: The survival of the MDT compliance group was better than the non-compliance group. The difference in survival curves was statistically significant (χ(2) = 4.062, P < 0.05). The 1- and 2-year survival rates of the former group were 72.0%, 60.9%, and the latter was 64.3%, 40.3%. The survival of the combined treatment group was better than the non-combination group. The survival curves of the two groups were statistically significant (χ(2) = 9.502, P < 0.05), and they were independent influencing factors of survival (HR = 0.451, 95% CI, 0.210-0.968). The 1- and 2-year survival rates of the former group were 82.2% and 75.4%, and the latter was 63.1% and 44.6%. The median survival time of the follow-up group was 29.4 months, and the non-compliance and the uncombined group were 17.0 months. The difference was statistically significant (χ(2) = 13.336, P < 0.001). The median tumor progression time was 15.7 months in the combination group and 10.1 months in the non-compliance group (χ(2) = 7.263, P < 0.05). Conclusion: An advanced MDT compliance with implementation of multidisciplinary combination therapy may help to improve the prognosis of MDT patients with liver cancer.

Uncovering Two Principles of Multivariate Hierarchical Metal-Organic Framework Synthesis via Retrosynthetic Design. ACS CENTRAL SCIENCE 2018; 4:1719-1726. Abstract
Multivariate (MTV) hierarchical metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), which contain multiple regions arranged in ordered structures, show promise for applications such as gas separation, size-selective catalysis, and controlled drug delivery. However, the complexity of these hierarchical MOFs is limited by a lack of control during framework assembly. Herein, we report the controlled generation of hierarchical MOF-on-MOF structural formation under the guidance of two design principles, surface functionalization and retrosynthetic techniques for stability control. Accordingly, the tunability of spatial distributions, compositions, and crystal sizes has been achieved in these hierarchical systems. The resulting MOF-on-MOF hierarchical structures represent a unique crystalline porous material which contains a controllable distribution of functional groups and metal clusters that are associated together within a framework composite. This general synthetic approach not only expands the scope and tunability of the traditional MTV strategy to multicomponent materials, but also offers a facile route to introduce variants and sequences to sophisticated three-dimensional hierarchical and cooperative systems. As a proof of concept, the photothermal effects of a porphyrinic core-MOF are exploited to trigger the controlled guest release from a shell-MOF with high guest capacity, highlighting the integrated cooperative behaviors in multivariate hierarchical systems.

Effect of night light regimen on growth performance, antioxidant status and health of broiler chickens from 1 to 21 days of age. ASIAN-AUSTRALASIAN JOURNAL OF ANIMAL SCIENCES 2018; 32:904-911. [PMID: 30381741 PMCID: PMC6498082 DOI: 10.5713/ajas.18.0525] [Citation(s) in RCA: 5] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.8] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Download PDF] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 07/10/2018] [Accepted: 10/05/2018] [Indexed: 11/27/2022]
Abstract
Objective The study was conducted to evaluate the effects of night light regimen on growth performance, antioxidant status and health of Lingnan Yellow broiler chickens from 1 to 21 days of age. Methods A completely randomized factorial design involved 2 photoperiods (constant lighting [CL], 24 L:0 D and intermittent lighting [INL], 17 L:3 D:1 L:3 D)×2 light intensities (10 lx and 30 lx). A total of one thousand six hundred and eighty 1-d-old Lingnan Yellow broiler chicks were randomly divided into 4 treatments with 6 replicates (70 birds per replicate). The experiment lasted for 21 d. Results Photoperiods and light intensities had no effect on average daily gain, feed conversion ratio, and mortality of the broiler chickens (p>0.05). The INL had a significant effect on average daily feed intake (p<0.05) of broiler chickens compared with CL. Photoperiod and light intensity had an interactive effect on melatonin (MT) concentration (p<0.05). At CL, reducing light intensity increased MT concentration; INL birds had higher MT but MT concentration was not affected by light intensity. There was an interactive effect on glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and catalase (CAT) in serum and total antioxidant capability (T-AOC) in liver between photoperiod and light intensity. With the decrease of light intensity, the activities of GPx and CAT in serum and T-AOC in liver increased in CL group (p<0.05). Broiler chickens reared under INL had better antioxidant status and 10 lx treatments had higher activities of CAT in serum than 30 lx (p<0.05). Different photoperiods and light intensities had no effect on malondialdehyde. There was an interaction between photoperiod and light intensity on serum creatine kinase (CK) concentration (p<0.05). At CL, the elevated light intensity resulted in an increase in CK content; INL birds had lower CK concentration especially in low light intensity group. Besides, INL and low light intensity significantly reduced the concentration of serum corticosterone and heat shock protein 70 (p<0.05). Serum immunoglobulin M contents were increased in broiler chickens reared under the INL compared with CL group (p<0.05). Conclusion Results above suggest that the night light regimen of INL and 10 lx could be beneficial to the broiler chickens from 1 to 21 days of age due to the better health status and electricity savings.

Enhancing Brain Lesions during Acute Optic Neuritis and/or Longitudinally Extensive Transverse Myelitis May Portend a Higher Relapse Rate in Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorders. AJNR Am J Neuroradiol 2017; 38:949-953. [PMID: 28302609 DOI: 10.3174/ajnr.a5141] [Citation(s) in RCA: 7] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 12/22/2016] [Accepted: 01/14/2017] [Indexed: 11/07/2022]
Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders are inflammatory demyelinating disorders with optic neuritis and/or longitudinally extensive transverse myelitis episodes. We now know that neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders are associated with antibodies to aquaporin-4, which are highly concentrated on astrocytic end-feet at the blood-brain barrier. Immune-mediated disruption of the blood-brain barrier may manifest as contrast enhancement on brain MR imaging. We aimed to delineate the extent and frequency of contrast enhancement on brain MR imaging within 1 month of optic neuritis and/or longitudinally extensive transverse myelitis attacks and to correlate contrast enhancement with outcome measures. MATERIALS AND METHODS Brain MRIs of patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders were evaluated for patterns of contrast enhancement (periependymal, cloudlike, leptomeningeal, and so forth). The Fisher exact test was used to evaluate differences between the proportion of contrast enhancement in patients who were seropositive and seronegative for aquaporin-4 antibodies. The Mann-Whitney test was used to compare the annualized relapse rate and disease duration between patients with and without contrast enhancement and with and without seropositivity. RESULTS Brain MRIs of 77 patients were evaluated; 59 patients (10 males, 49 females) were scanned within 1 month of optic neuritis and/or longitudinally extensive transverse myelitis attacks and were included in the analysis. Forty-eight patients were seropositive, 9 were seronegative, and 2 were not tested for aquaporin-4 antibodies. Having brain contrast enhancement of any type during an acute attack was significantly associated with higher annualized relapse rates (P = .03) and marginally associated with shorter disease duration (P = .05). Having periependymal contrast enhancement was significantly associated with higher annualized relapse rates (P = .03). CONCLUSIONS Brain MRIs of patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders with contrast enhancement during an acute relapse of optic neuritis and/or longitudinally extensive transverse myelitis are associated with increased annual relapse rates.

Abstract
The study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary manganese (Mn) on reproductive performance of female Ussuri raccoon dogs (Nyctereutes procyonoides) during the breeding season. Healthy female Ussuri raccoon dogs (n=72) were randomly divided into six groups of twelve each. The six experimental diets were formulated to contain graded amounts of Mn (0, 40, 80, 120, 200 and 400mg/kg of diet; Groups A through F, respectively). Litter size of Group D was greater than that of Groups A, B, C and E (P<0.05), with Group E having the smallest litter size. Values of number born alive were affected by different amounts of organic Mn. Number of pups born alive in Group D was greater than that of Groups B, C, E and F (P<0.05). Number of pups weaned alive for Group D was greater than that of Groups A, B, C and E (P<0.05). Mn supplementation of the control diet (containing 24.32 mg/kg from raw materials) with 120 mg/kg of Mn was adequate for female Ussuri raccoon dogs during the breeding season, based on positive effects of reproduction performance.

Abstract
Attenuated Salmonella typhimurium SL7207 was used as a carrier for a reconstructed DNA vaccine against Streptococcus agalactiae. A 1.02 kb DNA fragment, encoding for a portion of the surface immunogenic protein (Sip) of S. agalactiae was inserted into pVAX1. The recombinant plasmid pVAX1-sip was transfected in EPC cells to detect the transient expression by an indirect immunofluorescence assay, together with Western blot analysis. The pVAX1-sip was transformed by electroporation into SL7207. The stability of pVAX1-sip into Salmonella was over 90% after 50 generations with antibiotic selection in vitro while remained stable over 80% during 35 generations under antibiotic-free conditions. The LD50 of SL/pVAX1-sip was 1.7 × 10(11) CFU/fish by intragastric administration which indicated a quite low virulence. Tilapias were inoculated orally at 10(8) CFU/fish, the recombinant bacteria were found present in intestinal tract, spleens and livers and eventually eliminated from the tissues 4 weeks after immunization. Fish immunized at 10(7), 10(8) and 10(9) CFU/fish with different immunization times caused various levels of serum antibody and an effective protection against lethal challenge with the wild-type strain S. agalactiae. Integration studies showed that the pVAX1-sip did not integrate with tilapia chromosomes. The DNA vaccine SL/pVAX1-sip was proved to be safe and effective in protecting tilapias against S. agalactiae infection.

Abstract
Selenium is essential for the normal life processes, and all animals, including fish, need this inorganic element. In order to research the pathology of selenium deficiency in common carp, Cyprinus carpio L., 360 juvenile carp were allocated to three treatments. Each treatment containing 120 fish was randomly divided into four groups, fed with purified diets containing selenium at 0, 0.15, 0.30 and 0.45 mg kg(-1). The results indicated that the morbidity and mortality rates of the test groups were negatively correlated with the level of selenium in the diets. The morbidity and mortality rates were, respectively, 46.7%, 33.3%, 13.3%, 0 and 26.7% 16.7%, 6.7%, 0. The affected fish exhibited pathological changes, such as 'thin back disease' and lordosis. Histologically, there was no abnormality observed in muscles, liver and pancreas. Ultrastructurally, there was swelling of the mitochondria of the cardiac muscle cells, the liver cells and renal tubular epithelial cells, with disintegration and lysis of the cristae of the mitochondria which vesiculated. Serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase and glutamic pyruvic transaminase levels were increased and the activity of the serum glutathione peroxidase and the serum superoxide dismutase was decreased; in contrast, the serum malonaldehyde concentration was increased.

Abstract
Patients' health-care needs are an important issue, but have not been studied in the burn field. The aims of this study were to explore discharged burn patients' health-care needs and related factors. This cross-sectional study used convenience sampling and four questionnaires, including basic information, Mental Status Inventory, Burn Patients' Social Support and Burn Patients' Healthcare Needs for data collection. There were 93 adults, injured on average 45% of total body surface area, who completed the study. Results indicated that the level of psychosocial care needs were higher than physiological needs. The level of physiological care needs changed over time, but psychosocial needs did not change. Self-reported psychosocial needs and physiological care needs correlated with each other. The multiple regressions showed that the most important predictors of overall health-care needs were numbers of visible scarred areas, time since discharge and previous psychiatric history. The findings revealed the burn patients provided clinically useful information and supported further evaluation in the area of care needs for burn patients.
