Resumption of professional football during the COVID-19 pandemic. Study findings from Iran

Due to concerns of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2) transmission, professional football (soccer) was terminated almost everywhere in the world in early 2020. These are the results from a prospective cohort study conducted in Iran to analyze the resumption of professional football during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic under assigned protocols and regulations. Sixteen teams consisting of 805 individuals formally agreed to follow the rules assigned by the ministry of health and CORONA headquarters in sport, and were subject to study monitoring. The resumption process was implemented over a 5-month period, beginning with a training phase followed by 14 match weeks of professional football. A self-declaration form was provided for the subjects to report any suspicious symptoms immediately and serial PCR testing was performed every 10 days using nasal swab samples. Those with positive tests were to be isolated until the symptoms were resolved or a negative test was returned. Of the 805 individuals included, 17.89% subjects were infected by the SARS-CoV‑2 virus (85 players and 59 staff members and officials). Only two matches were canceled in accordance with the regulations, and no severe cases were found. Case-tracing suggested that most transmissions occurred off the pitch. In conclusion, applying strict hygiene protocols and early case identification by performing repetitive PCR testing could benefit the resumption of professional football competitions.

The Relationship Between COVID-19-induced Death and Chronic Diseases

Background: Morbidity and mortality due to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) are mainly related to age and comorbidity diseases (hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, malignancies, etc.). These conditions are associated with poorer clinical outcomes and sometimes lead to long-term hospitalization. The current study aimed to investigate the relationship between COVID-19-induced mortality and various chronic diseases in patients admitted to Ali Ibn Abitaleb Hospital in Rafsanjan City, Iran, in 2020. Methods: In this retrospective, descriptive, and cross-sectional study, patients with COVID-19 referring to Ali Ibn Abitaleb Hospital in Rafsanjan City, Iran, from March 2020 to September 2020 were assessed. The required data were collected using patients’ records and telephone calls by a researcher-made checklist and analyzed by Independent Samples t-test, Chi-squared test, Fisher’s Exact test, Kaplan-Meier plots, and multivariate regression analysis in SPSS v. 20. Results: This study assessed 238 hospitalized patients with COVID-19. The risk of death was significantly higher in patients aged over 75 years; they were 5.5 times more prone to expire, compared to the youngest age group (P<0.001). Chronic diseases, such as hypertension, heart disease, lung disease, and various cancers were more prevalent in patients who expired, compared to those who survived (P≤0.05). Of the patients who died, 73.8% were transferred to the Intensive U (ICU), while only 7.5% of surviving patients were transferred to the ICU (P<0.001). Longer hospitalization was associated with an increased risk of death among patients with underlying diseases and hypertension (P<0.05). Conclusion: This study identified the role of chronic diseases and other important indicators in the survival of patients with COVID-19 who were admitted to a hospital in Rafsanjan. It is recommended that nurses and healthcare staff consider these findings in the care of patients with COVID-19.

The effects of fish oil capsules and vitamin B1 tablets on duration and severity of dysmenorrhea in students of high school in Urmia-Iran

Aims:

The purpose of this study is the comparison of the effect of vitamin B1 and fish oil with together on severity and duration of dysmenorrhea, and if it is effective, we can administrate both of them with less complication to compare with other chemical drugs which has many disadvantages.

Study Design:

High school of Urmia city, between March 2008 and June 2008.

Methodology:

This study has a double-blind clinical trial design.240 high school female students with dysmenorrhea by a randomized Method were followed up in a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study by dividing into four groups with 60 members. The daily supplement was vit B1 (100 mg/day and fish oil pearl 500 mg/day), taken as a single dose starting at the beginning of the menstrual cycle and continued for 2 consecutive months.

Results:

Intensity of pain in three experimental groups (Vit B1, fish oil and both of them) had significant difference comparing placebo group and intensity of pain had reduced. (p<0.001), (p=0.018), (p<0.001) VS in placebo group (p=0.79). Duration of pain had significantly reduced in all three experimental groups compared with placebo group. (p=0.004), (p=0.008), (p<0.001) VS in placebo group (p=0.32). In all of drugs, results (mean) was better at the end of the second month than the first month.

Conclusion:

Fish oil and vit B1 effects on treatment of primary dysmenorrhea were similar, but vit B1 has less complications and it was more acceptable. We mixed them and compared its results with vit B1, fish oil and placebo separately. Pain duration is the least in Vitamin B1 tablets compare with the others, but its duration was minimum in complex of Vitamin B1 tablets and fish oil capsules. Due to good effects of vitamin B1 and fish oil on symptoms of dysmenorrhea, using of them is suggested.

Investigation of long- and short-term relationships between cesarean delivery and its effective factors in Malayer

Introduction:

Recently, there has been significant increase in the number of operated cesarean compared to the overall number of birth giving. There are several factors affecting the operated cesarean in Iran compared to the birth giving which are to be reviewed in this study.

Procedure:

The data of the study has been obtained from the registered information in Assistance Section of Health at Hamedan Faculty of Medicine which includes the seasonal data having to do with giving birth of Malayer since the beginning of Winter 2006 to the end of Fall 2013. The assimilation techniques, namely ARDL method and Error Correction Method (ECM) are the main methods to be used in this study.

Results:

The short-term and long-term coefficients of abnormal view, incongruent status of fetus and pelvis, lack of progression, and the lengthy status are considered significant statistically. The ecm coefficient is -1.3456 in short-term. Also, his coefficient is significant which shows the short-term balance trend to the long-term one.

Conclusion:

The most indispensable affective factor on demanding to run the cesarean operation in short-term and long-term in Malayer are the lengthy-status, lack of progression, abnormal view, and incongruent status of fetus and pelvis, respectively.
