Abstract
BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with major portal vein invasion (MPVI) presents very poor outcomes. Hepatic artery infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) and radiation therapy (RT) have both been found to be effective for advanced HCC. In this retrospective study, we compared the therapeutic outcomes of our "new" HAIC regimen with and without concurrent RT, before and after propensity score matching (PSM) in treating HCC patients with MPVI. METHODS One hundred forty patients with MPVI received HAIC alone and 35 patients underwent concurrent HAIC and RT during a 16-year period. The left subclavian artery was adopted as the entry site for a temporary catheter placement for a 5-day chemoinfusion. The Modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (mRECIST) was adopted to assess the objective response rate (ORR). The Kaplan-Meier curve was used to calculate progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) between the two groups. Univariate and multivariate analyses by Cox regression model were used to assess hazard ratios. RESULTS Of the 140 patients with Child-Pugh A liver function, the median OS was 17.0 months. In the initial cohort, higher ORR and PFS were found in the concurrent RT group than in the HAIC alone group (80% vs 66.4% and 9 vs 8 months, respectively) but shorter OS (10.5 vs 14.5 months, p = 0.039) was observed. After PSM, the OS was 10 and 15 months ( p = 0.012), respectively. Multivariable Cox regression analysis revealed that the significant factors for adjusting hazard ratios for OS were Child-Pugh classification, alpha fetal protein (AFP) level, and hepatic vein invasion. CONCLUSION HAIC is an effective treatment for advanced HCC patients with MPVI. Concurrent HAIC and full-dose RT were associated with worse clinical outcomes.

Abstract
Objective: To investigated the safety and efficacy of donor-derived CD19+ or sequential CD19+ CD22+ chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy in patients with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Methods: The data of 22 patients with B-ALL who relapsed after allo-HSCT and who underwent donor-derived CAR-T therapy at the Zhujiang Hospital of Southern Medical University and the 920th Hospital of Joint Logistics Support Force of the People's Liberation Army of China from September 2015 to December 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS), and the secondary endpoints were event-free survival (EFS), complete remission (CR) rate, and Grade 3-4 adverse events. Results: A total of 81.82% (n=18) of the 22 patients achieved minimal residual disease-negative CR after CAR-T infusion. The median follow-up time was 1037 (95% CI 546-1509) days, and the median OS and EFS were 287 (95% CI 132-441) days and 212 (95% CI 120-303) days, respectively. The 6-month OS and EFS rates were 67.90% (95% CI 48.30%-84.50%) and 58.70% (95% CI 37.92%-79.48%), respectively, and the 1-year OS and EFS rates were 41.10% (95% CI 19.15%-63.05%) and 34.30% (95% CI 13.92%-54.68%), respectively. Grade 1-2 cytokine release syndrome occurred in 36.36% (n=8) of the patients, and grade 3-4 occurred in 13.64% of the patients (n=3). Grade 2 and 4 graft-versus-host disease occurred in two patients. Conclusion: Donor-derived CAR-T therapy is safe and effective in patients with relapsed B-ALL after allo-HSCT.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Treatment for antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis (AAV) must deal with immunosuppression, as well as infections associated with a compromised immune system, such as tuberculosis (TB). Our aim was to examine the risk of incidental TB after diagnosis of AAV. Materials and Methods: This retrospective population-based cohort study was based on the data from the National Health Insurance Research Database in Taiwan. Patients with newly diagnosed granulomatous polyangiitis or microscopic polyangiitis were identified between 1 January 2000 and 31 December 2012. The primary outcome was risk of incidental TB. Cox proportional hazard models were used to evaluate the association between AAV and incidental TB. Results: A total of 2257 patients with AAV and a propensity-score matched cohort of 9028 patients were studied. Overall, patients with AAV were at a 1.48× higher risk of contracting incidental TB than the patients in the matched cohort (adjusted HR 1.48; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.02-2.15). Note that the highest risk of contracting incidental TB was in the first two years following a diagnosis of AAV, with a nearly 1-fold increase in risk (adjusted HR, 1.91; 95% CI, 1.01-3.60). Female AAV patients were 3.24× more likely than females without AAV to develop TB (adjusted HR 3.24; 95% CI, 1.85-5.67). Conclusions: Patients with AAV exhibit a 48% elevated TB risk, notably, a 91% increase within the first two years postdiagnosis. Female AAV patients face a 3.24 times higher TB risk compared to females without AAV. This study is limited by potential misclassification and overestimation of AAV cases. Clinicians should closely monitor TB risk in AAV patients, especially in females and the initial two years following diagnosis.

Abstract
Objectives: This study sought to describe our institutional experience of repeated percutaneous stellate ganglion blockade (R-SGB) as a treatment option for drug-refractory electrical storm in patients with nonischemic cardiomyopathy (NICM). Methods: This prospective observational study included 8 consecutive NICM patients who had drug-refractory electrical storm and underwent R-SGB between June 1, 2021 and January 31, 2022. Lidocaine (5 ml, 1%) was injected in the vicinity of the left stellate ganglion under the guidance of ultrasound, once per day for 7 days. Data including clinical characteristics, immediate and long-term outcomes, and procedure related complications were collected. Results: The mean age was (51.5±13.6) years. All patients were male. 5 patients were diagnosed as dilated cardiomyopathy, 2 patients as arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy and 1 patient as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The left ventricular ejection fraction was 37.8%±6.6%. After the treatment of R-SGB, 6 (75%) patients were free of electrical storm. 24 hours Holter monitoring showed significant reduction in ventricular tachycardia (VT) episodes from 43.0 (13.3, 276.3) to 1.0 (0.3, 34.0) on the first day following R-SGB (P<0.05) and 0.5 (0.0, 19.3) after whole R-SGB process (P<0.05). There were no procedure-related major complications. The mean follow-up was (4.8±1.1) months, and the median time of recurrent VT was 2 months. Conclusion: Minimally invasive R-SGB is a safe and effective method to treat electrical storm in patients with NICM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To examine the feasibility of using pulsatility index-adjusted (PI) flow equations to accurately characterize blood volume flow changes using Doppler technique in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) before and after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA). METHODS PTA was performed on 17 PAD patients (23 target vessels treated, 16 anterior tibial arteries, and 7 posterior tibial arteries). Arterial diameter, peak systolic velocity, PI, time-averaged mean velocity, and measured volume flow (MVF) of dorsalis pedis artery (DPA) and common plantar artery (CPA) were measured with duplex Doppler ultrasound before and after PTA. PI-adjusted volume flows (PIVF) were calculated as part of the MVF/PIVF relative percentage metric. RESULTS Significant changes (p < 0.001) of the MVF (mean: 33.0 mL/min, range: -20.9-102.2 mL/min) and MVF/PIVF relative percentages (mean: 51.8, range: 5.1-127.2%) in the DPA existed between before and after PTA, whereas no significant changes could be found in the CPA (mean:10.9 mL/min, p = 0.148 and mean: 21.3%, p = 0.146, respectively). Of the 7 treated posterior tibial arteries, the increments of the MVF/PIVF (mean: 60.4%, p = 0.033) was significant but not in the MVF (mean: 26.5 mL/min, p = 0.125). The ankle-brachial index also showed non-significant changes (p = 0.081). All PI-adjusted results matched clinical observations after blood flow restoration. CONCLUSION No conclusions can be drawn from the comparison of actual measured volume flow between before and after PTA. However, using the MVF/PIVF relative percentage allows for a more objective framework upon which to base clinical observations and provides clarity in situations where direct measurement provides a counter-intuitive or contradictory picture.

Abstract
Social status among group-living mammals can impact access to resources, such as water, food, social support, and mating opportunities, and this differential access to resources can have fitness consequences. Here, we propose that an animal's social status impacts their access to sleep opportunities, as social status may predict when an animal sleeps, where they sleep, who they sleep with, and how well they sleep. Our review of terrestrial mammals examines how sleep architecture and intensity may be impacted by (1) sleeping conditions and (2) the social experience during wakefulness. Sleeping positions vary in thermoregulatory properties, protection from predators, and exposure to parasites. Thus, if dominant individuals have priority of access to sleeping positions, they may benefit from higher quality sleeping conditions and, in turn, better sleep. With respect to waking experiences, we discuss the impacts of stress on sleep, as it has been established that specific social statuses can be characterized by stress-related physiological profiles. While much research has focused on how dominance hierarchies impact access to resources like food and mating opportunities, differential access to sleep opportunities among mammals has been largely ignored despite its potential fitness consequences.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To report the clinical outcomes of vasospasm embolization technique in treating lower gastrointestinal bleeding (LGIB). METHODS Fifty LGIB patients (32 men and 18 women; mean age, 70.4 years) with positive contrast extravasation on multidetector computed tomography were treated with pharmaco-induced vasospasm embolization by semiselective catheterization technique. Distal rectal bleeding was excluded. The bleedings in three patients were considered to be tumor related. Eighteen underwent regular hemodialysis, and 22 showed unstable hemodynamic at intervention. RESULTS Forty-two bleeders were found in superior mesenteric territory and eight in the inferior mesenteric territory. Successful, immediate hemostasis was achieved in 49 (98%) patients. Early recurrent bleeding (<30 days) was found in 13 (26.5%) patients with 6 local rebleeding (12.2%), 5 new-foci bleeding (10.2%), and 2 uncertain foci bleeding (4.1%). Repeated vasospasm embolization therapy was given to five patients, with successful hemostasis in four. All the three tumor-related bleeding patients undergoing vasospasm embolization had ceased bleeding and discharged. Patient-based primary and overall clinical successes were achieved in 73.5% and 83.7%, and lesion-based primary and overall clinical successes were 83.0% and 86.7%, respectively. The 30-day mortality rate was 21.3%, and the 1- and 2-year survival rates were 51.5% and 43.8%. No major procedure-related complications (eg, bowel ischemia) were encountered. CONCLUSION This study confirmed our prior preliminary conclusion that pharmaco-induced vasospasm embolization is easy, safe, and effective for LGIB. This treatment may be considered the first-line alternative approach for LGIB, especially for patients of advanced age with complex medical problems and/or when vasa rectal embolization isn't feasible.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the value of serum mitochondrial ATP synthase C subunit level in the evaluation of cardiac functional status and prognosis in patients with sepsis. Methods: A total of 165 sepsis patients admitted to the Emergency Intensive Care Unit (EICU) of the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2018 were included, there were 103 males (62.4%) and 62 females (37.6%) with an age of (63±14) years. Human ATP synthase lipid binding protein (ATP5G1) ELISA kit was used to detect the level of serum ATP synthase C subunit within 24 h after admission to EICU, and compared with that in 45 healthy subjects. Clinical data of patients were collected and divided into groups according to different left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and clinical outcomes. The differences in clinical indicators among each group were compared to evaluate the value of serum ATP synthase C subunit level in the evaluation of cardiac functional state and prognosis of patients with sepsis, and the independent risk factors for cardiac functional state and prognosis of patients with sepsis were analyzed. Results: Compared with the control group, the level of serum ATP synthase C subunit in the sepsis group was higher ((116±62) μg/L vs (77±34) μg/L, P<0.001). Compared with normal cardiac function group, the level of serum ATP synthase C subunit in septic cardiac dysfunction group was higher (P<0.001). Compared with the survival group, the level of serum ATP synthase C subunit in the death group was higher (P<0.05). The receiver operating curve (ROC) was drawn to analyze the value of ATP synthase C subunit, creatine kinase isoenzyme (CK-MB), B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), troponin I (cTnI), left atrial end diastolic diameter, left ventricular end systolic diameter, left ventricular end diastolic volume, left ventricular end systolic volume in evaluating the cardiac function in patients with sepsis, and the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.928, 0.661, 0.837, 0.814, 0.703, 0.831, 0.794 and 0.765, respectively. The cut-off value, sensitivity and specificity of ATP synthase C subunit in it was 139.44 ng/L, 100% and 75.2%, respectively. ROC was drawn to analyze the prognostic value of age, urea nitrogen (BUN), ATP synthase C subunit, APACHEⅡ score and SAPSⅡ score in patients with sepsis, and the AUC was 0.719, 0.772, 0.656, 0.868 and 0.884, respectively. The cut-off value, sensitivity and specificity of ATP synthase C subunit in it was 131.24 ng/L, 61.9% and 68.7%, respectively. Logistic regression analysis showed that age, BUN, ATP synthase C subunit, cardiac dysfunction, APACHEⅡ score and SAPS Ⅱ score were independent risk factors for the prognosis of patients with sepsis. Conclusion: The level of serum ATP synthase C subunit is closely related to cardiac dysfunction in patients with sepsis, and can effectively predict the prognosis of patients with sepsis.

Integrated transcriptomics and metabolites at different growth stages reveals the regulation mechanism of bolting and flowering of Angelica sinensis. PLANT BIOLOGY (STUTTGART, GERMANY) 2021; 23:574-582. Abstract
The root of Angelica sinensis is one of the most widely used traditional Chinese medicines. In commercial planting, early bolting and flowering (EBF) of ca. 40% of 2-year-old plants reduces root yield and quality. Although changes in physiology in bolted plants have been investigated, the mechanism activating EBF has not been identified. Here, transcriptomics profiles at four different growth stages (S1 to S4) were performed, gene expression was validated by qRT-PCR and the accumulation of endogenous hormones quantified by HPLC. A total of 60,282 unigenes were generated, with 2,282, 1,359 and 2,246 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) observed at S2 versus S1, S3 versus S2 and S4 versus S3, respectively; 558 genes that co-exist in at least three stages from S1 to S4 were obtained. Functional annotation classified 38 DEGs linked to flowering pathways: photoperiodism, hormone signalling, carbohydrate metabolism and floral development. The levels of gene expression, hormones (GA1 , GA4 and IAA) and soluble sugars were consistent with the EBF. It can be concluded that the EBF of A. sinensis is controlled by multiple genes. This integrated analysis of transcriptomics, together with targeted hormones and soluble sugars, provides new insights into the regulation of EBF of A. sinensis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Bypass grafting is the standard of care for chronic aorto-iliac occlusive disease (AIOD, aka Leriche Syndrome) but is associated with mortality rates of up to 25% if surgical re-intervention is necessary. Despite a recent shift towards an endovascular-first strategy for TransAtlantic InterSociety Consensus II ("TASC II") C and D lesions, reports from Leriche Syndrome are still limited. PATIENTS AND METHODS 15 high-risk patients (11 male, 4 female), mean age of 60.6 years, with chronic aorto-iliac occlusive disease were retrospectively reviewed. Retrograde approaches via the bilateral femoral arteries for aortic occlusion less than 4 cm in length and/or antegrade fashion from the brachial artery for juxtarenal type lesions were made. For the latter, thrombolysis prior to angioplasty was also performed. Intraluminal or if necessary, subintimal angioplasty was performed with deployment of either bare metal stents or stentgrafts in a kissing-stent fashion. RESULTS A total of 28 iliac arteries and 14 occluded abdominal aorta were treated with 100% technical success, of which 25% success were achieved by using subintimal technique. Two minor complications occurred, including vascular rupture and distal emboli in one patient apiece, which were successfully managed via endovascular fashion. There were no complications of renal artery emboli. Primary and secondary patency rates at 1, 3 and 5 years were 92.3% and 100%; 83.9% and 100%; and 83.9% and 100%, respectively. CONCLUSION Endovascular therapy for chronic aorto-iliac occlusion has a high technical success rate, with good short- and mid-term primary and secondary patency rates and may provide a valid alternative to surgery for high-risk patients.

Undersized stent graft for treatment of cephalic arch stenosis in arteriovenous hemodialysis access. Sci Rep 2020; 10:12501. Abstract
Cephalic arch stenosis (CAS) is a common cause of AV dialysis access failure and is notoriously difficult to treat with conventional venoplasty. Although stent graft (SG) placement has improved patency rate, they are prone to stent failure caused by edge stenosis. We investigate the effect of SG diameter relative to cephalic vein on patency rate among hemodialysis patients with dysfunctional arteriovenous access caused by CAS. We identified 22 patients with recalcitrant cephalic arch stenosis or post-venoplasty vessel rupture and received SG placement. Patients were divided into two groups based on the stent-to-vessel diameter (S/V) ratio: undersized group, < 1; and apposed group, 1–1.2. Outcomes were assessed through follow-up angiography. S/V ratio was significant smaller in the undersized patient group (p < 0.001). Placement of undersized SG demonstrated higher primary stent (p = 0.001) and access patency rates (p = 0.021) and a reduced number of post-treatment reinterventions per access year (p = 0.021). A decreased number of lateral edge stenosis was noted in undersized SG (p = 0.005). Increased S/V ratio was significantly associated with lateral edge stenosis (OR = 5.19; p = 0.027). Undersized SG is associated with higher primary stent and access patency rate, and decreased number of post-SG interventions, and are suggested in the treatment of cephalic arch stenosis.

[Mineral Characteristics of Arsenic in the Active Area of the Banbishan Gold Mine and Its Effect on Arsenic Accumulation in Farmland Soil]. HUAN JING KE XUE= HUANJING KEXUE 2019; 40:5090-5097. Abstract
To explore the source and pollution characteristics of soil arsenic, mineralogy and chemical analysis methods were used to analyze the ore, waste rock, sediment, and river and soil samples around the mining area. Under a polarized light microscope, As-bearing mineral-arsenopyrite was found in the soil, ore, and waste rock around the Banbishan gold mine. Moreover, arsenopyrite in the waste rock has already experienced weathering and oxidation, and the oxidized arsenopyrite easily migrates and is released in the soil, which is potentially harmful. Because of the effect of mining transportation activities and indigenous smelting, arsenic was mainly distributed in the topsoil, at a depth of 0-20 cm, in the farmland on both sides of the road and in the places where villagers were gathered. The soil arsenic content in Xiaowulan Village and Gaozhangzi Village ranged from 7.2 to 196.2 mg·kg-1 and exceeded the rate of arsenic by 45.9% and 82.1%. According to the assessment by the RAC method, the farmland soil in Xiaowulan Village and Gaozhangzi Village were mainly at low to medium risk, although some soil points in Xiaowulan Village were at high risk. In general, the effects of the mining activities of the surrounding environment were not optimistic. As-bearing minerals in the oxidation of long-term weathering can cause much arsenic to be activated, which in turn, affects the local crops and long-term residents living around the mining area. It is suggested to carry out risk assessments for arsenic in the soil-crop-atmospheric-human system, and further study the conversion rules and mechanisms of arsenopyrite during weathering, to provide scientific guidance for the environmental protection of cultivated land.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the protective effect of Baicalin on apoptosis induced by lipopolysaccharide in H9C2 cardiomyocytes and its possible mechanism. Methods: In order to establish apoptosis model of H9C2 cardiomyocytes, H9C2 cardiomyocytes were cultured and divided into four groups: the control group; the baicalin group was treated with baicalin at the final concentration of 10μmol/L for 12 hours; the LPS group was stimulated with LPS at the final concentration of 1 μg/ml for 6 hours; The LPS+baicalin group was stimulated with LPS at the final concentration of 1 μg/ml for 6 hours within treated with baicalin at the final concentration of 10μmol/L for 12 hours. Collecting cell samples, CCK-8 (The Cell Counting Kit-8) was used to detect cell activity, and Terminal-deoxynucleoitidyl Transferase Mediated Nick End Labeling (TUNEL) was used to detect the expression levels of apoptosis. Laser Scanning Confocal Microscopy was used to detect the expression levels of store-operated calcium entry in H9C2 cardiomyocytes. Western blot was used to detect the protein expression levels of STIM1, cleaved-caspase3, Bax and Bcl-2. Fluorogenic quantitative PCR was used to detect the mRNA expression level of STIM1. Results: Compared with the control group, LPS-induced H9C2 cardiomyocyte survival rate decreased (P<0.05), the expression level of apoptosis increased (P<0.05), the internal flow of calcium increased (P<0.05), the expression levels of cleaved-caspase3, Bax protein levels increased (P<0.05), Bcl-2 protein level decreased (P<0.05), the expression of STIM1 mRNA and protein level increased (P<0.05). Compared with LPS group, the survival rate of H9C2 cardiomyocytes in baicalin intervention group increased (P<0.05), the expression level of apoptosis decreased (P<0.05), the internal flow of calcium decreased (P<0.05), the expression levels of cleaved-caspase3, Bax protein decreased (P<0.05), and the level of Bcl-2 protein increased (P<0.05), the expression of STIM1 mRNA and protein level decreased (P<0.05). Conclusion: Baicalin may alleviate LPS-induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis by alleviating calcium overload, and improve cell survival.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the effect of NLRP1 on the liver dysfunction following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(allo-HSCT). METHODS The mouse model of allo-HSCT was established by using C57BL/6 and NLRP-/- mice were used as the recipients: BABL/c mice were used as donors). The chimera rates of donor's bone marrow cells were assayed by flow cytometry. ALT and AST levels were measured by automatic biochemical analyzer. Western blot was used to detect the expressions of NLRP1, the precursor of Caspase-1 and its active segment p20,IL-1β,IL-18 and MPO in livers. RESULTS The chimera rate was over 96% on the day 14 after allo-HSCT, and showed that the hematopoietic stem cells of donors had been transplanted into recipients. ALT and AST levels were increased from (173.9±12.39)U/L and (283.7±28.00)U/L on day 7 to (3902±1745)U/L and (5316±924)U/L on the day 14 and decreased to (3153±564.4) U/L and (4350±957.7) U/L on the day 28, respectively. Western blot showed that the expression of NLRP1 was increased after allo-HSCT, which displayed a similar trend with the changes of ALT and AST. When knocking out NLRP1, the contents of ALT and AST in the knocked group were significantly decreased in comparison with the group without knocking out. And the expression levels of NLRP1 related inflammatory proteins, precursor of Caspase-1,p20,Mature-IL-1β,Mature-IL-18 and MPO were lower than those in groups without knocking out NLRP1 gene. CONCLUSION Allo-HSCT can cause the damage of liver function and increase the expression of NLRP1, while knocking out NLRP1 can reduce the damage of liver function, so NLRP1 may be one of the important factors leading to liver dysfunction.

Abstract
Purpose We assessed the efficacy and safety of different modalities using the network meta-analysis for inoperable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with portal vein invasion. The interested modalities included stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) combined with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), three-dimensional radiotherapy (3D-RT) combined with hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) or TACE, TACE plus sorafenib, and use of SBRT, HAIC, sorafenib, and TACE alone. Methods PubMed and Cochrane Library electronic databases were systematically searched for eligible studies published up to June 2017. We used network meta-analysis to compare the disease control rate (DCR) and severe adverse events for the eight interested regimens included in this analysis. Study quality was assessed following the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations method. Results Fifteen studies published between 2010 and 2016 involving a total of 2,359 patients were enrolled in this network meta-analysis. With indirect comparison of DCR and overall safety, the pooled results showed that RT plus HAIC was the most effective regimen in treating advanced HCC with portal vein tumor thrombosis, followed by RT plus TACE. HAIC alone and sorafenib combined with HAIC appeared least effective intervention regimens. The incidence of treatment-related adverse events of grade 3 or 4 occurred less in the patients who received SBRT alone compared with other interested regimens. Conclusion 3D-RT combined with HAIC or TACE showed more favorable treatment responses compared with other regimens in advanced HCC patients with portal vein tumor thrombosis.

The use of a Colapinto TIPS Needle under cone-beam computed tomography guidance for true lumen re-entry in subintimal recanalization of chronic iliac artery occlusion. J Chin Med Assoc 2017; 80:371-375. Abstract
BACKGROUND To report the technique and clinical outcome of subintimal re-entry in chronic iliac artery occlusion by using a Colapinto transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) needle under rotational angiography (cone-beam computed tomography; CT) imaging guidance. METHODS Patients with chronic iliac artery occlusion with earlier failed attempts at conventional percutaneous recanalization during the past 5 years were enrolled in our study. In these patients, an ipsilateral femoral access route was routinely utilized in a retrograde fashion. A Colapinto TIPS Needle was used to aid the true lumen re-entry after failed conventional intraluminal or subintimal guidewire and catheter-based techniques. The puncture was directed under rotational angiography cone-beam CT guidance to re-enter the abdominal aorta. Bare metallic stents 8-10 mm in diameter were deployed in the common iliac artery, and followed by balloon dilation. RESULTS Ten patients (9 male; median age, 75 years) were included in our investigation. The average occlusion length was 10.2 cm (range, 4-15 cm). According to the Trans-Atlantic Inter-Society Consensus (TASC) II classification, there were five patients each with Class B and D lesions. Successful re-entry was achieved in all patients without procedure-related complications. The ankle-brachial index (ABI) values increased from 0.38-0.79 to 0.75-1.28 after the procedure. Imaging follow-up (> 6 months) was available in six patients with patency of all stented iliac artery. Thereafter, no complaints of recurrent clinical symptoms occurred during the follow-up period. CONCLUSION The use of Colapinto TIPS needle, especially under cone-beam CT image guidance, appears to be safe and effective to re-enter the true lumen in a subintimal angioplasty for a difficult chronic total iliac occlusion.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the risk factors influencing the prognosis of elderly patients with acute poisoning. Methods: We retrospected 177 elderly patients with Acute Poisoning who were treated in the emergency department of the first affiliated hospital of wenzhou medical university from July 2009 to May 2015. According to the outcome of patients, we distributed the patients to death group (31 cases) and survival group (146 cases) , compared the clinic data and using multivariate analysis with Logistic regression to prognosis factors. Results: There were 177 cases in total, with 146 survivors (82.5%) and 31 deaths (17.5%) . In which 102 cases (57.6%) had chronic underlying diseases. There were 28 cases of pesticide poisoning in the death group, and the fatality rate of pesticide poisoning was 23.5%. The mortality rate was 12.8% in the 60-69 years-old group (11/86) , 20% (13/65) in the 70-79 years-old group, 26.9% (7/26) in the 80-89 years-old group. The most common reason of poisoning was intentional ingestion, with 100 cases (56.5%) . The tract of the poisoning was mainly in digestive system, including 148 cases (83.6%) . The PSS score and APACHE-II score were 2.97±0.18 and 19.8±2.8 in the death group, 2.27±0.81 and 12.8±5.3 in the survival group. Compared with the survival group, poison (pesticides or non) 、poisoning route、cause of poisoning、PSS score、APACHEⅡ score have significant difference in death group (P<0.05) . Poison (pesticides or non) 、PSS score、APACHEⅡ, were the independent risk factors of poor prognosis. Conclusion: Most of the elderly patients with acute poisoning have one or more chronic underlying diseases, the digestive tract ingestion and pesticide poisoning are more common. The fatality rate of the old patients is significantly higher than that of non elderly poisoning. Type of toxications, PSS score and APACHE-II score are the prognostic factors in elderly patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE To determine frequency of and assess risk factors for hepatic artery (HA) injury during percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) and to discuss the technique and report the clinical outcome of embolization for HA injury. MATERIALS AND METHODS Over a 14-year period (2002-2016), 1,304 PTBD procedures in 920 patients were recorded. The incidence of HA injury was determined, and possible associated risk factors were analyzed. When injury occurred, HA embolization was performed at the site as close to the bleeding point as possible. Clinical outcomes of these patients after embolization were reported. RESULTS Of 1,304 PTBD procedures, a left-sided approach was used in 722 procedures (55.4%), and intrahepatic duct (IHD) puncture under ultrasound guidance was used in 1,161 procedures (90.1%). The IHD was nondilated in 124 (9.5%) patients. The punctured ductal entry site was peripheral in 1,181 (90.6%) patients. In this series, 8 procedures (0.61%) were complicated by HA injury. IHD dilatation status was the only risk factor (P = .017) for HA injury. Embolization was performed with technical and clinical success in all 8 patients. No recurrent hemobilia, intraabdominal bleeding, or other sequelae of HA injury after embolization was noted during 1 week to 84 months of follow-up. CONCLUSIONS HA injury is a relatively rare complication of PTBD. IHD dilatation status was the only risk factor for HA injury in this study. When HA injury occurred, embolization therapy was effective in managing this complication.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the efficacy of locally endoscopic cytoreductive surgery in the treatment of advanced gastric cancer in elderly patients as well as its influence on prognosis.
METHODS Elderly patients with advanced gastric cancer were assigned to either a treatment group to receive locally endoscopic cytoreductive surgery or a control group to receive best supportive care. The primary endpoints were response rate (RR) and overall survival (OS). The efficacy and safety were evaluated after four complete courses of locally endoscopic cytoreductive surgery. Multivariate Cox-regression analysis was performed to determine survival trends adjusted for clinical and demographic factors. Kaplan-Meier curves were used to assess the differences in survival time.
RESULTS A total of 106 elderly patients treated from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2015 were enrolled, including 51 in the treatment group and 55 in the control group. The overall response rates of the two groups were 76.5% and 27.3%, respectively (P < 0.05). Cox-regression analysis suggested that endoscopic cytoreductive surgery (P = 0.000) and tumor size (P = 0.000) were independent prognostic factors. Survival in the control group and treatment group showed a significant increase in median OS from 8.384 mo to 12.496 mo (P = 0.000). The hazard ratio of endoscopic cytoreductive surgery was 0.430 (95%CI: 0.274-0.675). One- and two-year survival rates were 52.8% and 22.9% in the treatment group and 29.1% and 2.8% in the control group, respectively.
CONCLUSION Locally endoscopic cytoreductive surgery has important value in improving the prognosis of elderly patients with advanced gastric cancer, and it shows survival benefit for advanced gastric cancer and prolongs the OS.

Abstract
The avian family Ardeidae comprises long-legged freshwater and coastal birds. There has been considerable disagreement concerning the intrafamilial relationships of Ardeidae. Mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) was used as a marker for the identification and phylogenetic analysis of avian species. In the present study, we analyzed the COI barcodes of 32 species from 17 genera belonging to the family Ardeidae. Each bird species possessed a barcode distinct from that of other bird species except for Egretta thula and E. garzetta, which shared one barcoding sequence. Kimura two-parameter distances were calculated between barcodes. The average genetic distance between species was 34-fold higher than the average genetic distance within species. Neighbor-joining and maximum likelihood methods were used to construct phylogenetic trees. Most species could be discriminated by their distinct clades in the phylogenetic tree. Both methods of phylogenetic reconstruction suggested that Zebrilus, Tigrisoma, and Cochlearius were an offshoot of the primitive herons. COI gene analysis suggested that the other herons could be divided into two clades: Botaurinae and Ardeinae. Our results support the Great Egret and Intermediate Egret being in separate genera, Casmerodius and Mesophoyx, respectively.

Effect of overexpression of PTEN on apoptosis of liver cancer cells. GENETICS AND MOLECULAR RESEARCH 2016; 15:gmr8120. [PMID: 27173355 DOI: 10.4238/gmr.15028120] [Citation(s) in RCA: 11] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.4] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/03/2022]
Abstract
Liver cancer is a common malignant tumor associated with a short-survival period and high-mortality rate, and its prevalence in China is particularly high. This study aimed to investigate the effect of overexpressing the phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN) gene on liver cancer cell apoptosis and provide new insight into the treatment of this disease. The experimental design included four treatment groups, consisting of HHCC and H22 cells transfected with PTEN recombinant plasmids (HHCC+PTEN, H22+PTEN), and those transfected with control plasmids (HHCC+NC, H22+NC). The expression of PTEN mRNA was determined by quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and protein levels were examined by western blot. Cell apoptosis was measured using flow cytometry and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated deoxyuridine triphosphate nick-end labeling. PTEN mRNA expression in cells transfected with pcDNA3.1-PTEN was significantly increased compared to the control groups (P < 0.05). In addition, western blotting revealed PTEN protein expression in the treatment groups to be significantly elevated in comparison to control cells (P < 0.05). Flow cytometry showed that apoptosis rates of both HHCC+PTEN (approximately 21.9%) and H22+PTEN (approximately 41.0%) cells were significantly higher than those of the control groups (P < 0.05). Moreover, the difference in apoptosis rate between experimental and control groups was significant (P < 0.05). In this study, HHCC and H22 cells were successfully transfected with pcDNA3.1-PTEN in vitro. We conclude that overexpression of PTEN can effectively inhibit proliferation of these cells and promote their apoptosis.

Abstract
Paris polyphylla var. yunnanensis is a traditional Chinese medicinal plant and is listed as vulnerable by the IUCN. This medicinal herb is well known for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, most notably as an ingredient of the hemostatic compound "Yunnan Baiyao". However, over-exploitation of the plant for economic purposes is pushing the species to the brink of extinction. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop conservation strategies for this endangered species, for example, through assessment of its genetic structure and diversity. Here, we developed ten novel polymorphic microsatellite loci. The characteristics of these markers were assessed in 60 individuals from South China. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 4 to 12, Observed and expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.303 to 0.969 and from 0.790 to 0.976, respectively. These markers will therefore be useful tools for future population genetic studies and for the conservation of genetic resources of P. polyphylla var. yunnanensis.

Abstract
AIM: To investigate the efficacy and safety of endoscopic self-expandable metal stent implantation with argon plasma coagulation in the treatment of malignant gastric outlet obstruction.
METHODS: Clinical data for 54 patients with malignant gastric outlet obstruction diagnosed from February 2010 to November 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided two groups: a control group (n = 27) and a treatment group (n = 27). The control group was treated by implantation of simple metal stents, while the treatment group was treated by implantation of self-expandable metal stents with argon plasma coagulation.
RESULTS: Self-expandable metal stent placement was successful in all patients. Fifty-four patients were able to take liquid food and soft food within 24 h after the procedure. Pain developed in 4 cases in the control group, and 2 cases in the treatment group. Three cases in the control group developed restenosis 2 mo after surgery, while only one case in the treatment group had restenosis 4.3 mo after surgery. No bleeding or perforation occurred. Two cases in the control group died after 6 mo. The treatment group was superior to the control group in terms of symptoms, food intake, survival and quality of life.
CONCLUSION: Placement of a self-expandable metal stent combined with argon plasma coagulation in patients with malignant gastric outlet obstruction is safe and effective for resolving obstruction symptoms.

Abstract
AIM: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of locally endoscopic cytoreductive surgery combined with inner diathermy in the treatment of advanced gastric cancer.
METHODS: Clinical data for 102 patients with inoperable advanced gastric cancer were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were classified into three groups by their treatments: endoscopic cytoreductive surgery combined with inner diathermy (group A), endoscopic cytoreductive surgery alone (group B) and best supportive care (group C). Clinical parameters, efficacy and long term survival were compared between the three groups.
RESULTS: Of 102 patients, 34 were in group A, 35 in group B, and 33 in group C. Response rates in the three groups were 62%, 60% and 0, respectively. Rates of shrinkage square by endoscopic view were 67.6%, 57.5% and -36.1%, respectively. Median overall survival were 15.6, 12.9 and 4.8 mo (P < 0.05). The most common adverse effects related to endoscopic treatment were bleeding and constipation, which were mild to moderate in severity and easily manageable.
CONCLUSION: Endoscopic cytoreductive surgery is effective and safe in patients with advanced gastric cancer. This procedure is well tolerated and can be efficiently combined with other methods.

Abstract
We developed a new approach to test the single-photon emissions of semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) in the optical communication band. A diamond-anvil cell pressure device was used for blue-shifting the 1.3 μm emissions of InAs/GaAs QDs to 0.9 μm for detection by silicon avalanche photodiodes. The obtained g(2)(0) values from the second-order autocorrelation function measurements of several QD emissions at 6.58 GPa were less than 0.3, indicating that this approach provides a convenient and efficient method of characterizing 1.3 μm single-photon source based on semiconductor materials.

Abstract
China is now the largest potato producing country worldwide. The establishment of efficient conservation techniques for potato germplasm is a prerequisite for breeding of elite cultivars. Potato viral diseases have been a great threat for sustainable potato production in China. Use of virus-free seed tubers is an effective and practical means to control viral diseases. In the present study, three vitrification-based cryopreservation techniques, i.e. droplet-vitrification, encapsulation-vitrification and vitrification were successfully developed for the first time for China's potato. Cultivar 'Zihuabai' was used to optimize key parameters involved in the three vitrification-based procedures. With the optimized parameters, shoot regrowth percentages of 71%, 76% and 43% were obtained for droplet-vitrification, encapsulation-vitrification and vitrification, respectively. The three protocols developed were further tested with eight China's major cultivars, with average shoot regrowth of 61%, 38% and 28% for droplet-vitrification, encapsulation-vitrification and vitrification, respectively. Successful development of the three cryopreservation procedures using a single cultivar will facilitate a number of comparative studies such as cryo-injury, regrowth pattern, genetic stability and efficiency of virus elimination. Testing these three cryogenic procedures for potato major cultivars representing a wide range of genetic background, will help the establishment of potato cryobanking in China and the production of virus-free plants.

Abstract
We report the measurement of field-field and photon-photon correlations of light scattered by two InAs quantum dots separated by ≈40 μm. Near 4 K a large fraction of photons can be scattered coherently by each quantum dot leading to one-photon interference at a beam splitter (visibility ≈20%). Simultaneously, two-photon interference is also observed (visibility ≈40%) due to the indistinguishability of photons scattered by the two different quantum emitters. We show how spectral diffusion accounts for the reduction in interference visibility through variations in photon flux.

Abstract
Primary actinomycosis in urachal remnant is documented rarely in the English literature. The disease is usually misdiagnosed as urachal carcinoma because of its infiltrating and enhancing natures. We illustrate a case of urachal actinomycosis with ultrasound, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance images. The clinical, radiological, and pathological findings are reviewed. Some imaging findings may help us to differentiate an inflammatory process from malignancy.

Molecular analysis of two Chinese pear (Pyrus bretschneideri Rehd.) spontaneous self-compatible mutants, Yan Zhuang and Jin Zhui. PLANT BIOLOGY (STUTTGART, GERMANY) 2009; 11:774-783. Abstract
Yan Zhuang and Jin Zhui are spontaneous bud mutants of Chinese pear (Pyrus bretschneideri Rehd.) from Ya Li. Both fruit set rate and seed number after self-pollination, together with pollen tube growth, prove that Yan Zhuang and Jin Zhui are self-compatible. The fruit set rate and seed number after cross-pollination suggest that the self-compatibility of Yan Zhuang and Jin Zhui may be due to natural mutations of the stylar S allele and pollen S allele, respectively. PCR amplification of the S-RNase gene in self-pollinated progeny of Yan Zhuang and Jin Zhui show that they contain point mutations in the stylar S(21) allele and pollen S(34) allele, respectively. The cDNA sequence of the Yan Zhuang stylar S-RNase gene revealed that the 182nd nucleotide of the S(21)-RNase (cDNA) sequence had been substituted resulting in a Gly to Val mutation, and this might affect the stability of the S-RNase. In addition, Western blotting showed that one Yan Zhuang stylar S-RNase was absent and the expression level of another S-RNase protein was decreased compared to Ya Li. Therefore, we suggest that the self-compatibility of Yan Zhuang is caused by a point mutation in an S(21)-RNase nucleotide.

Occurrence of Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus on Cucurbitaceous Plants in China. PLANT DISEASE 2009; 93:200. Abstract
Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus (CGMMV) was first discovered in 2003 in China (2) and developed an epidemic during 2005 (1). To know the occurrence scale and damage level of CGMMV, a survey was carried out in the main areas of cucurbitaceous plant production and seed trading in 2006 and 2007 in Mainland China. Samples of 739 plants of 16 types (seed samples from Cucurbita moschata, Cucumis melo, Lagenaria siceraria, Cucumis sativus, Momordica charantia, L. siceraria var. clavata, and C. pepo, leaf samples from C. moschata, Cucumis melo, L. siceraria, Cucumis sativus, and M. charantia, fruit samples from C. moschata, Citrullus lanatus, and L. siceraria, and seedling samples from Citrullus lanatus) were collected from 13 regions and analyzed by a double antibody sandwich (DAS)-ELISA. CGMMV was detected in Citrullus lanatus, L. siceraria, Cucumis melo, and C. moschata from six regions in 2006. Citrullus vulgaris, Cucumis melo, and C. moschata were infected most frequently; in 76, 60, and 30 of the leaf samples, respectively. CGMMV was tested positive in the samples of 8 seedlings, 23 seeds, and 1 fruit. In contrast, all samples tested negative in 2007. To confirm CGMMV identification, ELISA-positive samples were detected by reverse transcription-PCR assay using virus-specific primers that amplified a 524-bp fragment in the coat protein coding region. The nucleotide sequence of the PCR product (GenBank Accession No. DQ997778) isolated form L. siceraria in Liaoning Province (LHP) showed 100% identity with the Japanese watermelon strain (Japan W) and 91% identity with the Greece GR5 strain. On the basis of the symptoms of indicator plants (chlorotic spot and systemic mosaic were observed in L. siceraria, Chenopodium amaranticolor, and Cucumis sativus; no infection was observed in Datura stramonium, Nicotiana tabacum, and Chenopodium quinoa) and coat protein nucleotide sequence comparisons, the two CGMMV isolates of Wcn (1) and LHP from China should be grouped into the watermelon strain. The results showed that the government should establish effective quarantine strategy and the growers take proper planting measures to avoid further spreading of this virus. References: (1) H. Y. Melatonin ameliorates hippocampal nitric oxide production and large conductance calcium-activated potassium channel activity in chronic intermittent hypoxia. J Pineal Res 2008; 44:234-43. Abstract
Melatonin protects against hippocampal injury induced by intermittent hypoxia (IH). IH-induced oxidative stress is associated with decreases in constitutive production of nitric oxide (NO) and in the activity of large conductance calcium-activated potassium (BK) channels in hippocampal neurons. We tested the hypothesis that administration of melatonin alleviates the NO deficit and impaired BK channel activity in the hippocampus of IH rats. Sprague-Dawley rats were injected with melatonin (10 mg/kg, i.p.) or vehicle before daily IH exposure for 8 hr for 7 days. The NO and intracellular calcium ([Ca2+]i) levels in the CA1 region of hippocampal slices were measured by electrochemical microsenor and spectrofluorometry, respectively. The activity of BK channels was recorded by patch-clamping electrophysiology in dissociated CA1 neurons. Malondialdehyde levels were increased in the hippocampus of hypoxic rats and were lowered by the melatonin treatment. Levels of NO under resting and hypoxic conditions, and the protein expression of neuronal NO synthase (nNOS) were significantly reduced in the CA1 neurons of hypoxic animals compared with the normoxic controls. These deficits were mitigated in the melatonin-treated hypoxic rats with an improved [Ca2+]i response to acute hypoxia. The open probability of BK channels was decreased in the hypoxic rats and was partially restored in the melatonin-treated animals, without alterations in the expression of channel subunits and unitary conductance. Acute treatment of melatonin had no significant effects on the BK channel activity or on the [Ca2+]i response to hypoxia. Collectively, these results suggest that melatonin ameliorates the constitutive NO production and BK channel activity via an antioxidant mechanism against an IH-induced down-regulation of nNOS expression in hippocampal neurons.

Abstract
Soft X-rays at carbon, nitrogen, oxygen K-shell edges have special radiobiological effects. Using Aspergillus oryzae spores as sample, the radiation effects of soft X-rays near the K-shell edges of C, N and O elements from synchrotron radiation were investigated. Also the dose depositions of different X-ray energies in spore were discussed. At the same time, the spores were irradiated by gamma rays from 60Co and relative biological effects were compared with those produced by soft X-rays. The results showed that soft X-rays near K-shell edges of O element had higher ability of radiation damage than that of X-rays near K-shell edges of C and N elements as compared with one another. But they all had higher killing abilities per unit dose than that of gamma rays from 60Co. The relative biological effects (RBEs), the comparison of dose to gamma rays at 10% survival level, of the three soft X-rays were 1.65, 1.73 and 1.91, respectively.
