A Multimodality Treatment Approach for the Management of Recurrent Cervical Cancer in an Elderly Female Patient: A Case Report

Squamous cells in the cervix can develop into a type of cervical cancer. Cervical squamous cells are the cells that line the outside of the cervix. These thin, flat cells have a striking resemblance to fish scales under a microscope. Squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) are the most common type of cervical cancer. We report the case of a 60-year-old woman with SCC devoid of a family history of cancer or related diseases. Following a biopsy confirming SCC, the patient's contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan revealed a somewhat enlarged cervix along with a white discharge per vagina. The patient underwent a Wertheim hysterectomy and was diagnosed with microinvasive SCC, adenomyosis, and negative lymph nodes. Two years after being free from disease, the issue reappeared even with routine follow-ups. The patient underwent six rounds of chemotherapy, followed by chemoradiation and interstitial brachytherapy. The multimodality therapy method applied to an aged female patient experiencing recurrent SCC of the cervix is demonstrated in this case study. It underlines how crucial regular follow-ups and multimodal therapy are to control recurrent cervical cancer.

Surviving the Unthinkable: A Case of Post-obstructive Pulmonary Edema and Cerebral Edema in a Suicidal Hanging Survivor

Hanging, ligature strangulation, and manual methods can all result in fatal injuries such as fractures, dislocations, and brain swelling. This case involves a 30-year-old woman who survived a hanging incident but subsequently developed pulmonary and brain swelling. Post-obstructive pulmonary edema (POPE) is characterized by sudden onset non-neurogenic, non-cardiogenic fluid accumulation in the lungs following the removal of an acute upper respiratory tract obstruction. This report explores the patient's clinical presentation, disease progression, management strategies, and potential complications that clinicians may encounter during treatment, thereby enriching their understanding of possible outcomes and challenges in patient care.

Locally Advanced Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of the Right Submandibular Gland With Tuberculosis: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is an aggressive form of salivary gland cancer that mostly affects the accessory, parotid, and submandibular salivary glands. This tumor is characterized by slower development, perineural invasion, and possible local recurrence in clinical and pathological findings. A male patient, aged 71, who was from a remote area, appeared with a lesion affecting the right submandibular gland and had been experiencing discomfort in the same region for four months. Following a biopsy and the histological confirmation of ACC in the right submandibular gland, the tumor was widely excised locally.

Recurrent pineal tumor in a young adult male: Challenges in diagnosis and multimodal treatment management

Pineoblastomas are rare, severe primary brain tumors originating in the pineal gland. They might be challenging to detect and cure. This article recounts the example of a 23-year-old man who suffered from regular headaches and visual issues. During the first MRI, a solid cystic tumor in the pineal area was identified, creating obstructive hydrocephalus by squeezing surrounding brain regions. A low-grade glial tumor was discovered during the operation, which included partial tumor excision and an endoscopic third ventriculostomy. However, follow up imaging revealed a rapid recurrence requiring external ventricular drainage and a second craniotomy. Following the second surgery, histopathology confirmed pineoblastoma, demonstrating the aggressive character of the tumor. Postoperative imaging showed persistent illness despite these measures, requiring the implementation of a comprehensive treatment strategy. The multidisciplinary team suggested craniospinal irradiation (35 Gy in 21 fractions) followed by lesion boost (19.8 Gy in 11 fractions), using VMAT (Volumetric modulated Arc therapy) technique, along with concurrent chemotherapy followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. This case illustrates the difficulties in identifying and managing recurrent pineal tumors, including the need for appropriate adjuvant treatment, surgical constraints, and recurrence concerns. It provides crucial information regarding the challenges of treating aggressive brain tumors and emphasizes the need for interdisciplinary care to achieve the best results. This is a rare case of Central Nervous system recurrent tumor, which was earlier thought to be a low grade pineal tumor but later turns out to be high grade, Pineoblastoma in a young adult male. The case emphasizes the challenges in correct diagnosis of CNS tumors, importance of Immunohistochemistry and prompt management for complete cure of the disease.
