Abstract
With the aim of gathering temporal trends on bacterial epidemiology and resistance from multiple laboratories in China, the CHINET surveillance system was organized in 2005. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was carried out according to a unified protocol using the Kirby-Bauer method or automated systems. Results were analyzed according to Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) 2014 definitions. Between 2005 and 2014, the number of bacterial isolates ranged between 22,774 and 84,572 annually. Rates of extended-spectrum β-lactamase production among Escherichia coli isolates were stable, between 51.7 and 55.8%. Resistance of E. coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae to amikacin, ciprofloxacin, piperacillin/tazobactam and cefoperazone/sulbactam decreased with time. Carbapenem resistance among K. pneumoniae isolates increased from 2.4 to 13.4%. Resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains against all of antimicrobial agents tested including imipenem and meropenem decreased with time. On the contrary, resistance of Acinetobacter baumannii strains to carbapenems increased from 31 to 66.7%. A marked decrease of methicillin resistance from 69% in 2005 to 44.6% in 2014 was observed for Staphylococcus aureus. Carbapenem resistance rates in K. pneumoniae and A. baumannii in China are high. Our results indicate the importance of bacterial surveillance studies.

Abstract
Genome instability is a hallmark of cancer cells. Chromosome instability (CIN), which is often mutually exclusive from hypermutation genotypes, represents a distinct subtype of genome instability. Hypermutations in cancer cells are due to defects in DNA repair genes, but the cause of CIN is still elusive. However, because of the extensive chromosomal abnormalities associated with CIN, its cause is likely a defect in a network of genes that regulate mitotic checkpoints and chromosomal organization and segregation. Emerging evidence has shown that the chromosomal decatenation checkpoint, which is critical for chromatin untangling and packing during genetic material duplication, is defective in cancer cells with CIN. The decatenation checkpoint is known to be regulated by a family of enzymes called topoisomerases. Among them, the gene encoding topoisomerase IIα (TOP2A) is commonly altered at both gene copy number and gene expression level in cancer cells. Thus, abnormal alterations of TOP2A, its interacting proteins, and its modifications may play a critical role in CIN in human cancers. Clinically, a large arsenal of topoisomerase inhibitors have been used to suppress DNA replication in cancer. However, they often lead to the secondary development of leukemia because of their effect on the chromosomal decatenation checkpoint. Therefore, topoisomerase drugs must be used judiciously and administered on an individual basis. In this review, we highlight the biological function of TOP2A in chromosome segregation and the mechanisms that regulate this enzyme's expression and activity. We also review the roles of TOP2A and related proteins in human cancers, and raise a perspective for how to target TOP2A in personalized cancer therapy.

Abstract
The onset of lactation in dairy cows is characterized by severe negative energy and protein balance. Methionine availability during this time for milk production, hepatic lipid metabolism, and immune function may be limiting. Supplementing Met to peripartal diets with adequate Lys in metabolizable protein (MP) to fine-tune the Lys:Met ratio may be beneficial. Fifty-six multiparous Holstein cows were fed the same basal diet from 50 d before expected calving to 30 d in milk. From -50 to -21 d before expected calving, all cows received the same diet [1.24 Mcal/kg of dry matter (DM), 10.3% rumen-degradable protein, and 4% rumen-undegradable protein] with no Met supplementation. From -21 d to expected calving, the cows received diets (1.54 Mcal/kg of DM, 10% rumen-degradable protein, and 5.1% rumen-undegradable protein) with no added Met (control, CON; n=14), CON plus MetaSmart (MS; Adisseo Inc., Antony, France; n=12), or CON plus Smartamine M (SM; Adisseo Inc.; n=12). From calving through 30 d in milk, the cows received the same postpartum diet (1.75 Mcal/kg of DM and 17.5% CP; CON), or the CON plus MS or CON plus SM. The Met supplements were adjusted daily and top-dressed over the total mixed ration at a rate of 0.19 or 0.07% (DM) of feed for MS or SM. Liver tissue was collected on -10, 7, and 21 d, and blood samples more frequently, from -21 through 21 d. Data were analyzed using the MIXED procedure of SAS (SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC) with the preplanned contrasts CON versus SM + MS and SM versus MS. No differences in prepartal DM intake (DMI) or body condition score were observed. After calving, body condition score was lower (2.6 vs. 2.8), whereas DMI was greater (15.4 vs. 13.3 kg/d) for Met-supplemented cows. Postpartal diet × time interactions were observed for milk fat percentage, milk fat yield, energy-corrected milk:DMI ratio, and energy balance. These were mainly due to changes among time points across all treatments. Cows supplemented with either Met source increased milk yield, milk protein percentage, energy-corrected milk, and milk fat yield by 3.4 kg/d, 0.18% units, 3.9 kg/d, and 0.18 kg/d, respectively. Those responses were associated with greater postpartum concentration of growth hormone but not insulin-like growth factor 1. There was a diet × time effect for nonesterified fatty acid concentration due to greater values on d 7 for MS; however, liver concentration of triacylglycerol was not affected by diet or diet × time but increased postpartum. Blood neutrophil phagocytosis at 21 d was greater with Met supplementation, suggesting better immune function. Supplemental MS or SM resulted in a tendency for lower incidence of ketosis postpartum. Although supplemental MS or SM did not decrease liver triacylglycerol, it improved milk production-related traits by enhancing voluntary DMI.

Abstract
Field trials contribute practical information towards the development of phytoremediation strategies that cannot be provided by laboratory tests. We conducted field experiments utilizing the Cd hyperaccumulator plant Solanum nigrum L., on farmland contaminated with 1.91 mg kg(-1) Cd in the soil. Our study showed that S. nigrum has a relatively high biomass. Planting density had a significant effect on the plant biomass and thus on overall Cd accumulation. For double harvesting, an optimal cutting position influenced the amount of Cd extracted from soils. Double cropping was found to significantly increase the amount of Cd extracted by S. nigrum. Fertilizing had no significant effect on plant biomass or on the Cd remediation of the soil over the short-term period. Our study indicates that S. nigrum can accumulate Cd from soils where the concentrations are relatively low, and thus has application for use in decontamination of slightly to moderately Cd-contaminated soil.

Abstract
After transplantation of primarily vascularized xenografts (Xgs), T-independent mechanisms may lead to Xg rejection before T-cell activation even takes place. The possibility of achieving T-independent xenotolerance was evaluated in nude rats that normally reject hamster cardiac Xgs within 4 days by non-T cell-mediated mechanisms. After donor antigen infusion, temporary NK-cell depletion and a 4-week administration of Leflunomide, hamster heart grafts survived even after withdrawal of immunosuppression. Tolerant rats accepted second hamster hearts, but promptly rejected mouse heart Xgs. In vivo immunization and in vitro cytotoxicity assays indicated that this species-specific tolerance was based on B-lymphocyte and NK-cell tolerance respectively.

Abstract
Anemia is characteristic of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). The mechanisms of anemia in MDS are unclear. Using a mouse genetic approach, here we show that dual deficiency of mDia1 and miR-146a, encoded on chromosome 5q and commonly deleted in MDS (del(5q) MDS), causes an age-related anemia and ineffective erythropoiesis mimicking human MDS. We demonstrate that the ageing bone marrow microenvironment is important for the development of ineffective erythropoiesis in these mice. Damage-associated molecular pattern molecules (DAMPs), whose levels increase in ageing bone marrow, induced TNFα and IL-6 upregulation in myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) in mDia1/miR-146a double knockout mice. Mechanistically, we reveal that pathologic levels of TNFα and IL-6 inhibit erythroid colony formation and differentially affect terminal erythropoiesis through reactive oxygen species-induced caspase-3 activation and apoptosis. Treatment of the mDia1/miR-146a double knockout mice with all-trans retinoic acid, which promoted the differentiation of MDSCs and ameliorated the inflammatory bone marrow microenvironment, significantly rescued anemia and ineffective erythropoiesis. Our study underscores the dual roles of the ageing microenvironment and genetic abnormalities in the pathogenesis of ineffective erythropoiesis in del(5q) MDS.

Abstract
Platelets express a single low affinity receptor for immunoglobulin, FcgammaRII, that triggers multiple cellular responses upon interaction with multivalent immune complexes. In this study we show that immobilized IgG is also a potent stimulant of platelet activation triggering adhesion, aggregation, massive dense granule secretion, and thromboxane production. Platelet adhesion to IgG was blocked by the FcgammaRII receptor-specific monoclonal antibody, IV. 3. Pretreatment of the platelets with cytochalasin D to inhibit actin polymerization similarly prevented cell binding to IgG having no effect on platelet binding to fibrinogen. Platelet adhesion to IgG also led to the induction of tyrosine phosphorylation of multiple proteins including pp125(FAK) and p72(SYK). These proteins were also tyrosine-phosphorylated in alphaIIbbeta3-deficient IgG-adherent platelets from patients with Glanzmann's thrombasthenia. These data demonstrate that FcgammaRII mediates pp125(FAK) phosphorylation and platelet adhesion to IgG independent of the integrin alphaIIbbeta3. Treatment of the platelets with bisindolylmaleimide to inhibit protein kinase C prevented phosphorylation of pp125(FAK) as well as several other proteins, but not p72(SYK) phosphorylation. This study establishes that the FcgammaRII receptor mediates pp125(FAK) phosphorylation via protein kinase C.

Abstract
Modified fly ash was prepared through low-temperature roasting method using NaOH as activator. The techniques of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and the X-ray diffraction (XRD) were introduced to analyze the chemical and physical performance of samples, respectively. It was found that a significant improvements in activity and specific surface area of adsorbent. This work systematically reported the uptake performances of modified materials for single and two mixed toxic cations Pb(II) and Cd(II). The results unveiled that pseudo-second-order model was suitable to analyze the adsorption process. The adsorption process were better fitted by Langmuir model and the maximum uptake capacities were 126.55 and 56.31 mg g-1 for Pb(II) and Cd(II) in single system at 298 K, respectively. Additionally, in mixed solution, the maximum uptake capacity reduced to 120.48 and 36.10 mg g-1 under the same adsorption conditions. Competitive adsorption results demonstrated that adsorption ability was restricted by other metal ions, as while as, the binding affinity of two cations followed the order of Pb(II)>Cd(II). Meanwhile, the co-existed cations as Ca(II), Mg(II) Na(I) and K(I) had antagonistic effects on the uptake of Cd(II) and Pb(II). The results indicate that the modified fly ash was a low-cost and effective adsorbent for the cleaning up metal ions in wastewater, which has a promising application prospect.

Abstract
Volatile plant essential oils thymol and palmarosa oil, used at a concentration of 0.7%, were evaluated under field conditions for control of bacterial wilt of tomato caused by Ralstonia solanacearum. The experimental fields were artificially infested with the bacterial pathogen. Two hours after infestation, the plant essential oils were applied, then the plots were sealed with plastic mulch for 3 or 6 days. Tomato seedlings were transplanted into the field 7 days later. In fall of 2002, 92.5% of tomato plants (cv. Equinox) wilted in the untreated control plots. Both thymol and palmarosa oil soil treatments reduced bacterial wilt incidence significantly. Thymol was more effective than palmarosa oil based on the final assessment, when 33.1 and 48.1% of the plants had wilted in plots treated with thymol and palmarosa oil, respectively. Soil treatment with either thymol or palmarosa oil produced significantly higher yield of tomato than the untreated control. In 2003, only thymol was evaluated. Thymol application significantly reduced bacterial wilt incidence on the susceptible cultivar Solar Set. Disease incidence in untreated plots reached 65.5%, while in thymol treated plots only 12% of plants wilted. Thymol treatment also increased yield of Solar Set significantly compared with the untreated control. This is the first report on the use of thymol for controlling a plant disease under field conditions, which indicated that this compound provided effective control of bacterial wilt on susceptible tomato cultivars when used as preplant treatment of soils. Because of its volatile property and broad-spectrum functions, thymol shows potential to be used as a soil biofumigant for the management of various plant pathogens.

Abstract
This work focused on preparation a novel adsorbent from coal fly ash (CFA) and solid alkali (NaOH) by low temperature roasting method. The modification parameters (mass ratio, calcination time and temperature) were specifically studied and optimized. The adsorption experiment results indicated that, the adsorption amounts of Cd2+ were enhanced with the decreasing mass ratio of CFA and NaOH, and the adsorption amounts of Cd2+ were 32.44, 31.66, 38.5 and 79.85 mg/g at the mass ratio (CFA/NaOH) of 5:5, 5:6, 5:7 and 5:8, respectively. The higher modification temperature was not conducive to the removal of Cd2+, as the adsorption capacities of Cd2+ calculated were 62.42, 69.53 and 41.73 mg/g at the reaction temperature of 250, 300 and 400 ℃. Interestingly, the modification time slightly effects on the adsorption ability of materials. According to the results, the optimum modification condition for preparing adsorbents were CFA/NaOH mass ratio of 5:8 and calcined at 300 ℃ for 3 h. Moreover, the influence of pH, ionic strength and Glycine concentration on Cd2+ uptake were also investigated. The kinetic, adsorption isotherm and thermodynamics models were applied to investigate the adsorption mechanism, which indicated that the adsorption process was better fitted by Langmuir and pseudo-second-order models.

Eighteen cows were randomly assigned to either a controlled energy [LE, net energy for lactation (NE(L)) = 1.35 Mcal/kg of dry matter (DM)] or moderate energy-overfed group (HE, NE(L) = 1.62 Mcal/kg of DM) for 8 wk. Cows were then euthanized and subsamples of MAT, OAT, and SAT were harvested for transcript profiling via quantitative PCR of 34 genes involved in lipogenesis, triacylglycerol (TAG) synthesis, lactate signaling, hepatokine signaling, lipolysis, transcription regulation, and inflammation. The interaction of dietary energy and adipose depot was not significant for any gene analyzed except LPL, which indicated a consistent response to diet. Expression of ACACA and FASN was greater in SAT than MAT, whereas expression of SCD and ADFP were greatest in SAT, intermediate in OAT, and lowest in MAT. However, the 2 visceral depots had greater expression of THRSP, ACLY, LPL, FABP4, GPAM, and LPIN1 compared with SAT. The transcription factor SREBF1 was more highly expressed in MAT and SAT than in OAT. The expression of PNPLA2 was greater in visceral AT sites than in SAT, but other lipolysis-related genes were not differentially expressed among AT depots. Visceral AT depots had greater expression of LEP, ADIPOQ, and SAA3 compared with SAT. Moreover, MAT had greater expression than SAT of proinflammatory cytokines (IL1B and IL6), IL6 receptor (IL6R), and chemokines (CCL2 and CCL5). However, TNF expression was greatest in SAT, lowest in OAT, and intermediate in MAT. Overall, results indicated that visceral AT might be more active in uptake of preformed long-chain fatty acids than SAT, whereas de novo fatty acid synthesis could make a greater contribution to the intracellular pool of fatty acids in SAT than in visceral AT. The visceral AT compared with SAT seem to have a greater capacity for expression (and potentially for secretion) of proinflammatory cytokines; thus, excessive accumulation of visceral lipid due to a long-term overfeeding energy may be detrimental to liver function and overall health of dairy cows, particularly during the transition period.

Abstract
The integrin alpha(IIb)beta(3) mediates tyrosine phosphorylation of a 105-kDa protein (pp105) in activated platelets. We have partially purified a 105-kDa tyrosine-phosphorylated protein from platelets stimulated with phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate and obtained the sequence of an internal 12-mer peptide derived from this protein. The sequence was identical to human alpha-actinin sequences deposited in the Swiss Protein Database. alpha-Actinin, a 105-kDa protein in platelets, was subsequently purified from activated platelets by four sequential chromatographic steps. Fractions were analyzed by Western blotting and probed with alpha-actinin and anti-phosphotyrosine antibodies. The distribution of alpha-actinin and pp105 overlapped throughout the purification. Furthermore, in the course of this purification, a 105-kDa tyrosine-phosphorylated protein was only detected in fractions that contained alpha-actinin. The purified alpha-actinin protein was immunoprecipitated with antibodies to phosphotyrosine in the absence but not in the presence of phenyl phosphate. alpha-Actinin resolved by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis of activated platelet lysates was recognized by the antibodies to phosphotyrosine, whereas pretreatment of the platelets with bisindolylmaleimide, a protein kinase C inhibitor that prevents tyrosine phosphorylation of pp105, inhibited the reactivity of the antibodies to phosphotyrosine with alpha-actinin. Taken together, these data demonstrate that a fraction of alpha-actinin is tyrosine-phosphorylated in activated platelets.

Abstract
Because of its high Cd uptake and translocation, lettuce is often used in Cd contamination studies. However, there is a lack of information on Cd accumulation in the above-ground parts of lettuce during the entire growing season. In this study, a field experiment was carried out in a Cd-contaminated area. Above-ground lettuce parts were sampled, and the Cd content was measured using a flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). The results showed that the Cd concentration in the above-ground parts of lettuce increased from 2.70 to 3.62mgkg(-1) during the seedling stage, but decreased from 3.62 to 2.40mgkg(-1) during organogenesis and from 2.40 to 1.64mgkg(-1) during bolting. The mean Cd concentration during the seedling stage was significantly higher than that during organogenesis (a=0.05) and bolting (a=0.01). The Cd accumulation in the above-ground parts of an individual lettuce plant could be described by a sigmoidal curve. Cadmium uptake during organogenesis was highest (80% of the total), whereas that during bolting was only 4.34%. This research further reveals that for Rome lettuce: (1) the highest Cd content of above-ground parts occurred at the end of the seedling phase; (2) the best harvest time with respect to Cd phytoaccumulation is at the end of the organogenesis stage; and (3) the organogenesis stage is the most suitable time to enhance phytoaccumulation efficiency by adjusting the root:shoot ratio.

Abstract
The chemical elicitor acibenzolar-S-methyl (ASM; Actigard 50 WG), which induces systemic acquired resistance (SAR), was investigated to determine the effect on bacterial wilt of tomato caused by Ralstonia solanacearum on moderately resistant cultivars under greenhouse and field conditions. In greenhouse experiments, ASM was applied as foliar spray and/or soil drench (3 μg/ml) before and as foliar spray (30 μg/ml) after transplanting. The chemical elicitor was ineffective in reducing bacterial wilt incidence on susceptible tomato cultivars Equinox and FL 47 when plants were inoculated with R. solanacearum. However, greenhouse studies indicated that ASM significantly enhanced resistance in cultivars with moderate resistance to bacterial wilt such as Neptune and BHN 466. It appeared that ASM-mediated resistance was partially due to prevention of internal spread of R. solanacearum toward upper stem tissues of tomato plants. The effect of ASM on moderately resistant cultivars was consistent in field experiments conducted in 2002 and 2003 in Quincy, FL, where bacterial wilt incidence was significantly reduced in ASM-treated BHN 466 (in 2002), FL 7514 (in 2003), and Neptune (both years) plants. ASM-treated BHN 466 and FL 7514 produced significantly higher tomato yield than the untreated controls. This is the first report of ASM-mediated control of bacterial wilt under field conditions, which suggests that use of this treatment for moderately resistant genotypes may be effective for control of bacterial wilt of tomato.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Common bile duct injuries occur in 0.2% to 0.8% of laparoscopic cholecystectomies (LC). Intraoperative cholangiograms (IOCG) are a useful means of detecting common bile duct injuries in the operating room. METHODS Data were retrospectively reviewed for patients referred for management of common duct injuries from 1996 to 2000. Cost data were obtained from hospital records. Legal settlements were obtained from published sources. RESULTS Twenty-one patients (0.133%) were found to have bile duct injuries and incurred median hospital stays of 11.5 days at an average cost of $587,491. The average cost of those requiring reoperation was $669,134. The 21 cases in our sample had total charges of $10,819,767. Performing IOCG during each LC in Orange County would have cost $10,669,725. If extrapolated to state and nationwide levels, the savings is far greater. CONCLUSIONS IOCG during LC is a cost-effective means of preventing the costs of delayed recognition of bile duct injuries.

Abstract
In this study, the effects of heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn) on EROD and CYP3A4 activities in the earthworm Eisenia fetida were evaluated to find out their possible induction and potential as biomarkers for soil heavy metal contamination. The earthworms were exposed to increasing concentrations of Cd (0.1-8 mg L(-1)), Cu (10-200 mg L(-1)), Pb (20-400 mg L(-1)) or Zn (50-400 mg L(-1)) in filter papers for 48 h. EROD activity was significantly changed in dose-dependent manners after exposure to each of the four metals. CYP3A4 activity was significantly induced by Cd and Pb, rather by Cu and Zn. This is the first report on heavy metal-induced changes of CYP3A4 activity in earthworms. Among the four heavy metals, Cd was the most potent inducing EROD and CYP3A4. While EROD and CYP3A4 activities showed a similar trend, EROD is more sensitive than CYP3A4 activity in E. fetida as a biomarker for heavy metals pollution.

Abstract
Recent studies have suggested a significant increase in corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH) in maternal plasma and placenta during the course of maternal infection. The aim of this study was to examine the possible role of CRH in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced pro-inflammatory cytokine expression using the well-established human extravillous trophoblast cell line HTR-8/SVneo. Exposure of the HTR-8/SVneo cells to LPS resulted in increased secretion of tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin (IL)-8. Pre-treatment of the cells with CRH prior to LPS exposure significantly enhanced LPS induced TNF-alpha and IL-8 secretion. This effect was inhibited by the CRH antagonist astressin. Stimulation of the cells with CRH caused a rapid and transient phosphorylation of p38/MAPK while CRH had no effect on ERK1/2 activation. The effect of CRH on p38/MAPK activation was suppressed by astressin and by the p38/MAPK inhibitor SB203580. Exposure of the cells to CRH resulted in increased expression of TLR-4 and this effect was also inhibited by astressin. Taken together, these findings suggest that CRH augments LPS induced cytokine secretion in human trophoblast cells. Modulation of LPS induced immune responses by CRH may be mediated through regulation of TLR-4 and selective activation of the p38/MAPK signalling pathway.

Abstract
A microcosm experiment with artificially contaminated soils was conducted in a greenhouse to evaluate the effect of gibberellic acid 3 (GA3) on phytoremediation efficiency of Solanum nigrum L. The GA3 was applied at three different concentrations (10, 100, 1000 mg L(-1)) to S. nigrum. Results indicated that GA3 can significantly (p < 0.05) increase the biomass of S. nigrum by 56 % at 1000 mg L(-1). Concurrently, GA3 application increased Cd concentrations in the shoot of S. nigrum by 16 %. The combined effects resulted in an increase in the amount of Cd extracted by a single plant by up to 124 %. Therefore, it is possible to use GA3 to promote the Cd phytoremediation efficiency of S. nigrum.

Abstract
Phytophthora blight, caused by Phytophthora capsici, is a serious disease in vegetable production, and selective use of fungicides continues to be a significant component of disease management programs. The effect of three chemical compounds-mandipropamid, dimethomorph, and cyazofamid-on asexual stages of P. capsici collected from bell pepper and cucurbits in Georgia was assessed in this study. Forty isolates of P. capsici were determined to be sensitive to mandipropamid and dimethomorph based on mycelial growth, zoospore germination, and sporangial production. Concentrations that were 50% effective (EC50 values) of mandipropamid that inhibited mycelial growth, zoospore germination, and sporangial production of the isolates averaged 0.03, 5.70, and 0.02 μg/ml, respectively. EC50 values of dimethomorph in inhibiting mycelial growth, zoospore germination, and sporangial production averaged 0.24, 0.10, and 0.46 μg/ml, respectively. The majority of isolates were either resistant or intermediately sensitive to cyazofamid at 500 μg/ml or lower concentrations based on mycelial growth or sporangial production, although all the isolates were sensitive to this compound based on zoospore germination, with an average EC50 of 0.04 μg/ml. The results indicated that P. capsici populations in Georgia have not developed resistance to mandipropamid and dimethomorph whereas, for the majority of the isolates, certain asexual stages were resistant to cyazofamid.

Abstract
In this study, Solanum nigrum L. was used as a hyperaccumulator for remediation of cadmium contaminated soil, and 3 different cultivation protocols were investigated. The results showed that a double cropping treatment enhanced the phytoremediation efficiency significantly, since it increased the amount of Cd extracted in one growing season by a factor of 1.62 compared to single cropping. However, the labor cost for double cropping was twice that of single cropping. If the time consumed is considered as a cost of phytoremediation, the double cropping treatment might be considered as an effective and economic cultivation protocol by reducing the overall time required to reach the targeted soil quality.
