Cicatricial Ectropion of Lower Eyelid: A Report of Two Cases

Cicatricial lower lid ectropion is characterized by vertical shortening and/or scarring of the anterior lamella of eyelid and can be the result of thermal or chemical burns, mechanical or surgical trauma/scars, medications, sun damage, chronic inflammation, and involutional changes.

Ectropion repair presents a challenge to the surgeon. The surgical management of cicatricial ectropion depends on the situation after the release of the scar traction in the lower lid area. Various techniques have been described for correcting cicatricial ectropion by lengthening the anterior lamella with transposition flaps or with full-thickness free skin grafts.

We would like to describe two cases of lower lid cicatrical ectropion with two different causes, which were managed in two different ways.

Benign cementoblastoma involving left deciduous first molar: A case report and review of literature

Cementoblastoma, a benign mesenchymal odontogenic neoplasm is derived from ectomesenchymal cells of the periodontium. Cementoblastomas associated with primary teeth are extremely rare as permanent mandibular first molars are mostly affected. Only 17 cases of those associated with deciduous dentition have been reported so far. The present case report describes a true cementoblastoma of an 8-year-old male child in relation to the left first primary mandibular molar along with emphasis on differential diagnosis.

Extended nasolabial flap in oral submucous fibrosis - our modification

Nasolabial Flaps are the most popular and commonly used flap in reconstructing mucosal defect left by fibrous band excision in developing countries like India where free flap expertise is not easily available and affordable by poor patients. Extended nasolabial flaps have been used in oral sub mucous fibrosis to cover mucosal defect. Normally these flaps are not wide enough to cover the mucosal defect left by fibrous band excision. Our modification utilises the extended nasolabilal flap to cover the wide mucosal defect in young patients by modified insetting of these flaps. I hope this technical modification will be useful to surgeons managing oral sub mucous fibrosis in developing countries or when free flap is not possible.

Gingival Fibromatosis with Distinctive Facies - A Three Generation Case Report

Hereditary gingival fibromatosis (HGF) is a rare disorder characterized by progressive and varying degrees of gingival overgrowth. Oral manifestations may vary from minimal involvement of only tuberosity area and the buccal gingiva around the lower molars to a generalized gingival enlargement. It can occur as an isolated disorder but can be one feature of a syndrome. Although the clinical and histopathological characteristics of HGF are well known and described, the pathogenic mechanism remains unknown. The goal of this article is to describe a family with three generations afflicted with a syndromic form of HGF known as gingival fibromatosis with distinctive facies, and discuss the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
