Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the short-term outcomes of surgery for colorectal cancer(CRC)in the elderly aged over 90 years old. We retrospectively analyzed 1,043 patients with stage Ⅰ-Ⅳ CRC who underwent curative surgery in our institutions between 2013 and 2022. The patients were divided into the super older(aged ≥90 years, 20 patients) and non-super older groups(aged 80-89 years, 243 patients). The short-term outcomes were compared between the 2 groups. There were no significant differences in tumor location, stage, surgical approach, duration of operation and blood loss. The incidence of severe postoperative complications did not differ between the 2 groups. In conclusion, our study suggested that surgery for colorectal cancer could be as safely performed in super elderly patients as in non-super elderly patients.

Abstract
Chylous ascites is a rare post operative complication after gastrectomy, which commonly occurs in early postoperative period. Here, we successfully treated a patient with unresectable gastric cancer who occurred chylous ascites 9 months after first surgery and underwent laparoscopic surgery for chylous ascites. Since prolonged chylous ascites may cause malnutrition, surgical treatment should be considered for refractory chylous ascites.

Abstract
We reported a case of an advanced gastric cancer patient with gastric outlet obstruction and malnutrition who successfully underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy with enteral feeding. The patient is a 72-year-old man. The diagnosis was advanced gastric cancer with pyloric stenosis. Both decompression and enteral nutrition was performed with a W-ED®. Chemotherapy was markedly effective and nutritional status improved. He underwent robot-assisted distal gastrectomy(D2)and Billroth Ⅱ reconstruction under good nutritional status after neoadjuvant chemotherapy with intragastric decompression and nutritional management using a W-ED® tube. W-ED® tube is a useful tool for the proper nutritional management of patients with advanced gastric cancer who have pyloric stenosis by adequate decompression and enteral feeding.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM To evaluate the safety of colorectomy in elderly colorectal cancer patients with high American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) scores compared to those with low scores. PATIENTS AND METHODS Two hundred patients with stage I-IV colorectal cancer aged ≥80 years were retrospectively analyzed. Short- and long-term outcomes were compared between 136 patients with ASA scores ≤2 (low ASA group) and 64 patients with scores ≥3 (high ASA group). RESULTS The incidence of postoperative complications, duration of postoperative hospital stay, and 5-year overall and cancer-specific survival rates did not differ significantly between the groups. Laparoscopic surgery was significantly associated with a lower incidence of postoperative complications than open surgery in the high ASA score group (p=0.041), whereas no difference was observed in the low ASA score group (p=0.639). In the high ASA group, open surgery (p=0.024) and higher body mass index (p=0.040) were independent risk factors for postoperative complications. CONCLUSION Colorectal cancer resection can be safely performed in elderly patients with high ASA scores. Moreover, laparoscopic surgery may have a stronger contribution to the reduction of postoperative complications in elderly patients with colorectal cancer with high ASA scores than in those with low ASA scores.

Abstract
We have developed a low threshold detector consisting of Bragg curve counter (BCC), two siliconsurface barrier detectors (SSDs) and BGO scintillator to obtain experimental double-differential cross section (DDX) data for low energy proton production. Since the BCC offers advantage of self particle identification capability and a few μm-thick entrance window, protons produced by nuclear reactions down to 1 MeV have been identified. The capability of the detector is demonstrated in measurements using 70-MeV protons. Measured spectra are compared with calculation results of intra-nuclear cascade (INC) plus evaporation models and nuclear data library.

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to propose an automatic segmentation about each bone (the femur, the tibia, the patellar, and fibular) of the knee in MDCT image. The proposed method was applied for six patients (Age 33 ± 13, four males/tew females). The proposed method segmented the knee joint into each bone by using anatomical structure for the knee joint. The experiments calculate matching rate of the manual and the proposed method for evaluating it. As a result, The matching rate of the femur, the tibia, the patellar, and fibula were 95.84 ± 0.57%, 94.12 ± 1.01%, 94.49 ± 0.83%, 86.37 ± 4.28%, respectively. This study concluded that the proposed method is enough to segment the knee bones.

Abstract
In this study, the composite magnetic nanoparticles of coated SiO nano film with about 8 nm size and high saturation magnetization value, were synthesized by liquid phase precipitation method. The magnetic nanoparticles can be dispersed in various liquid media, widely known as magnetic fluids or ferrofluids with both magnetic and liquid properties. The materials been collected great interests and more and more attentions to focus into Drug Delivery System (DDS) as a new technology in this paper. We use the composite nanoparticles to disperse H2O and inject the solutions into rat's in-vivo organs. And, in the experiments by using a strong photon beam of SPring-8 Synchrotron Radiation facility, the distribution stat and the effects of magnetic field as well as drug delivery behaviour of nanoparticles in the rat' kidney are verified by the in-vivo observations.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To describe early perihemorrhagic changes after lobar intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) using multiparametric neuromonitoring [intracranial pressure (ICP), cerebral blood flow (CBF), tissue oxygenation (PbrO2), microdialysis (MD)]. METHODS Seven anaesthetized male swine were examined over 12 h. Four cerebral probes were inserted around the ICH (ICP, MD, CBF and PbrO2). A right frontal autologous arterial ICH (1.5 mL) was induced in all animals. RESULTS Initial ICH creation was hampered by using a soft 22-G cannula. A modified injection technique with a 90° bent steel cannula (20 G) allowed for an 87.5% success rate in ICH formation. After induction of ICH, ICP significantly increased from 2 mmHg to 9 mmHg. No significant PbrO2 or CBF reduction occurred during the monitoring period. Consequently, microdialysis did not indicate overall mean deterioration in the hematoma group over time. The indicator of ischemia (extracellular lactate) did not increase significantly during the monitoring period. Individual monitoring episodes demonstrated hypoxic episodes with consecutive metabolic derangement. These effects were reversible by optimizing CPP and FiO2. CONCLUSION We established a reproducible cortical ICH model using multiparametric neuromonitoring. Subtle changes in ICP were observed. No evidence for the existence of a perihemorrhagic ischemic area was found, hypothetically because of the small hematoma size. Individual animals underwent critical PbrO2 and CBF decreases with consecutive metabolic derangement. The effect of larger hematoma volumes should be evaluated with this setup in future studies to study volume-dependent deterioration.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To describe an endoscopic technique to evacuate acute intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) using the balanced suction-irrigation method in patients with intrinsic or iatrogenic coagulopathies. METHODS We report on our early experience with four patients with atypical ICH related to intrinsic and iatrogenic coagulopathies. In all patients, an endoscopic hematoma evacuation was performed using a navigated burrhole approach. The entry site and trajectory were planned according to the long axis of the hematoma. RESULTS Every operation was carried out with the aid of neuronavigation. Gross total removal of the hematoma was not intended as first line, especially if eloquent areas could be avoided. Intra-hematomal evacuation leaving minimal hematoma remnants was performed in three of four patients. We report hematoma removal rates of approximately 90%. In all patients, a significant hematoma reduction was achieved, although residues were tolerated to limit neurological damage. No re-hemorrhage was observed. CONCLUSION The endoscopic technique with the aid of neuronavigation may be an appropriate method to safely evacuate ICH in the acute stage in patients with intrinsic or iatrogenic coagulopathies.

Abstract
In the palladium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrosilylation of styrene (3a) with trichlorosilane, several chiral monophosphine ligands, (R)-2-diarylphosphino-1,1'-binaphthyls (2a-g), were examined for their enantioselectivity. The highest enantioselectivity was observed in the reaction with (R)-2-bis[3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]phosphino-1,1'-binaphthyl (2g), which gave (S)-1-phenylethanol (5a) of 98% ee after oxidation of the hydrosilylation product, 1-phenyl-1-(trichlorosilyl)ethane (4a). The palladium complex of 2g also efficiently catalyzed the asymmetric hydrosilylation of substituted styrenes on the phenyl ring or at the beta position to give the corresponding chiral benzylic alcohols of over 96% ee. Deuterium-labeling studies on the hydrosilylation of regiospecifically deuterated styrene revealed that beta-hydrogen elimination from 1-phenylethyl(silyl)palladium intermediate is very fast compared with reductive elimination giving hydrosilylation product when ligand 2g is used. The reaction of o-allylstyrene (9) with trichlorosilane catalyzed by (R)-2g/Pd gave (1S,2R)-1-methyl-2-(trichlorosilylmethyl)indan (10) (91% ee) and (S)-1-(2-(propenyl)phenyl)-1-trichlorosilylethanes (11a and 11b) (95% ee). On the basis of their opposite configurations at the benzylic position, a rationale for the high enantioselectivity of ligand 2g is proposed.

Developmental transitions and dynamics of the cortical ER of Arabidopsis cells seen with green fluorescent protein. PLANT & CELL PHYSIOLOGY 1999; 40:1253-61. Abstract
Arabidopsis thaliana plants were stably transformed with DNA encoding green fluorescent protein and with sequences ensuring retention in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Confocal laser scanning microscopy shows fluorescent ER in many cells of seedlings so allowing developmental changes to be documented. The arrangement of the cortical ER changes as cells mature in the hypocotyl and root epidermis. In the root, cells that have completed expansion have reticulate cortical ER resembling the ER described in many previous studies. Expanding cells, however, show extensive perforated sheets of cortical ER which transform quite abruptly into a loose reticulum at the basipetal end of the elongation zone. The reticulum compacts in trichoblasts beginning at sites where root hairs are about to emerge. The compacted form is maintained throughout the hair until growth ceases and the open reticulate form returns. All forms of cortical ER are dynamic and we use a color overlay method to distinguish stable and moving structures in a single composite image. Reticulate ER continuously rearranges its polygonal layout and perforations move and change their shape in the ER sheets of younger cells. ER deeper in the cell (i.e. not close to the plasma membrane) moves more actively so that almost no tubules remain stable even over short periods of less than one minute. The function of the perforated sheets of cortical ER present in growing cells is unknown.

Abstract
A solid phase carbohydrate library was synthesized and screened against Bauhinia purpurea lectin. The library, which contains approximately 1300 di- and trisaccharides, was synthesized with chemical encoding on TentaGel resin so that each bead contained a single carbohydrate. Two ligands that bind more tightly to the lectin than Gal-beta-1,3-GalNAc (the known ligand) have been identified. The strategy outlined can be used to identify carbohydrate-based ligands for any receptor; however, because the derivatized beads mimic the polyvalent presentation of cell surface carbohydrates, the screen may prove especially valuable for discovering new compounds that bind to proteins participating in cell adhesion.
