Abstract
The study aims to evaluate the effects of pineapples waste on the growth, texture quality and flesh colour of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fingerlings. Fingerlings were fed with four different levels of pineapple waste diets throughout 56 days, which contain a control group (Diet 1) and experimental diets that formulated with 10% (Diet 2), 20% (Diet 3) and 30% (Diet 4) of pineapple waste. The experimental diet was formulated with rice bran, fish meal, soybean meal, vitamin and mineral premix, vegetable oil and binder to attain 32% dietary protein. The results revealed that the formulated fish diet with pineapple waste given the optimum weight gain, weight gain percentage, specific growth rate than the control group, where Diet 4 has shown the highest value (p < 0.05). There were no effects of the pineapple waste diet on the texture quality of the fillet, while only red chromaticity (a*) showed a significant difference (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the addition of pineapple waste can improve the growth rate of Nile tilapia, and the supplementation level of the pineapple waste in the diet was 30% of the total feed formulation.

Abstract
Wheat flour is one of the principal ingredients in extruded wheat products. Wheat-based extruded products have relatively low protein and high gluten contents as well as a high glycemic index. Incorporation of nutrient-rich supplements could overcome those limitations. A D-optimal statistical experimental design was used to develop high-value and nutrient-rich extruded products by supplementing wheat flour (WF), with tef flour (TF), sesame protein concentrate (SPC) and tomato powder (TM). Effects of feed compositions on physical and functional properties of the extruded products were evaluated and modeled using an artificial neural network (ANN). SPC contributed to elevate the protein and simultaneously lower the carbohydrate content of the extruded products while TF and TM contributed to improving crude fiber and antioxidant properties. Evaluated physicochemical properties were adequately predicted by the ANN models (R2 = 0.979-0.998) with root mean square error of less than 0.008. Physical properties and sensorial evaluation correlated well and revealed that TF, SPC and TP addition to wheat flour produced distinct extruded products rich in protein and antioxidants with lowered carbohydrate and gluten contents.

Abstract
The role of transportation vehicles, pig movement between farms, proximity to infected premises, and feed deliveries has not been fully considered in the dissemination dynamics of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV). This has limited efforts for disease prevention, control and elimination restricting the development of risk-based resource allocation to the most relevant modes of PEDV dissemination. Here, we modeled nine pathways of between-farm transmission represented by a contact network of pig movements between sites, farm-to-farm proximity (local transmission), four distinct contact networks of transportation vehicles (trucks that transport pigs from farm-to-farm and farm-to-markets, as well as trucks transporting feed and staff), the volume of animal by-products in feed diets (e.g., fat and meat-and-bone-meal) to reproduce PEDV transmission dynamics. The model was calibrated in space and time with weekly PEDV outbreaks. We investigated the model performance to identify outbreak locations and the contribution of each route in the dissemination of PEDV. The model estimated that 42.7% of the infections in sow farms were related to vehicles transporting feed, 34.5% of infected nurseries were associated with vehicles transporting pigs between farms, and for both farm types, local transmission or pig movements were the next most relevant transmission routes. On the other hand, finishers were most often (31.4%) infected via local transmission, followed by the vehicles transporting feed and pigs between farms. Feed ingredients did not significantly improve model calibration metrics, sensitivity, and specificity; therefore, it was considered to have a negligible contribution in the dissemination of PEDV. The proposed modeling framework provides an evaluation of PEDV transmission dynamics, ranking the most important routes of PEDV dissemination and granting the swine industry valuable information to focus efforts and resources on the most important transmission routes.

Abstract
Current methods for feed formulation are based on minimizing costs, not maximizing profits. Complex models of bird growth and reproduction as functions of genetic, feed and other environmental variables are being developed, but their adaptation has been slow. The development of profit maximizing models will evolve to center on the production functions of broilers and layers. The production functions are the relationship between the value of products (mainly meat and eggs) and the cost of feed. The production function is the tool used to maximize profits subject to all the various inputs, not just feed or nutrition. The production function is subject to the law of diminishing returns. The most profitable output levels are those where the marginal value (price) of the meat or eggs is just equal to the marginal cost of the inputs including feed, housing, processing and all other costs. Anything that affects the production function, bird genetics, feed quality, housing and environment, will be considered to maximize profits for the poultry firm. The profit maximizing models of poultry firms will improve as various technical improvements are made: metabolizable energy to describe ingredients will evolve to net energy systems that consider that the heat production (and therefore energetic efficiency) of broilers is different depending on the ingredients used to formulate the feed and the environmental temperatures under which they are reared. Amino acid needs will include a method to find the birds' needs for the non-essential amino acids. "Digestible" amino acid assays will differentiate between digestion and absorption to best balance various sources. The carbohydrate fractions of feed ingredients will be determined to optimize the use of exogenous enzymes. The value of meat and egg co-products will reduce overall costs (e.g., organic fertilizer for crop enhancement). Future profit maximizing production models will be ever evolving processes where field conditions and results are continually being utilized to re-calibrate the technical models so that the management team can use them with cost and return projections to decide on the best choices of inputs and outputs.

Abstract
The present study was conducted to investigate the regulatory mechanism of liver injury in largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides (LMB) fed low protein high starch diets. Two isolipidic and isoenergetic diets were formulated with different protein and starch ratios, being named as diets P49S9 (48.8 % protein and 9.06 % starch) and P42S18 (42.4 % protein and 18.2 % starch). Each diet was fed to triplicate replicates of LMB (initial body weight, 4.65 ± 0.01 g) juveniles. Fish were fed to visual satiation for 8 weeks. The results indicated that though the P42S18 fish up-regulated the feeding ratio to meet their protein requirements, feeding efficiency ratio and growth performance were impaired in treatment P42S18 as compared to treatment P49S9. Periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) staining showed glycogen accumulated in the liver of LMB fed low protein high starch diets, and the reason should be attributed to down-regulated expression of the glycogenolytic glycogen debranching enzyme. Lower liver lipid level was associated with feeding low protein high starch diets in LMB, which should be resulted from the changes in hepatic glycerolipid metabolism regulated by lipoprotein lipase (representative of triglyceride synthesis, up-regulated) and diacylglycerol acyltransferase (representative of triglyceride breakdown, down-regulated). Though fasting plasma glucose level was comparable, treatment P42S18 performed inferior glucose tolerance to treatment P49S9. Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) and TdT-mediated dUTP Nick-End Labeling (TUNEL) staining suggested that feeding low protein high starch diets induced disruption of structural integrity, inflammation and apoptosis in the hepatocytes of LMB. As expected, KEGG pathways analysis indicated that many of the up-regulated differentially expressed genes were enriched in AGE (advanced glycation end product)/RAGE (receptor for AGE), Toll-like receptor and apoptosis signaling pathways. Our transcriptome data revealed that feeding low protein high starch diets might promote the accumulation of AGEs in LMB, which bound to RAGE and subsequently induced PI3K/Akt signal pathway. The activation of Akt induced NF-κB translocation into the nucleus thus releasing proinflammatory factors including tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-8. The release of these inflammatory factors concomitantly induced T cell stimulation and natural killer cells chemotactic effects through Toll-like receptor signaling pathway. Besides mediating inflammation and immune response, TNF-α signal transduction participated in mediating apoptosis through the receptor of TNF (TNF-R1) pathway by up-regulating the expression of caspase 8 and cytochrome c. In conclusion, our results demonstrated that feeding low protein and high starch diets induced hepatocytes inflammation and apoptosis in LMB through the PI3K/Akt/NF-κB signaling pathway.

Abstract
For the majority of fish species, regardless of being gastric or agastric, trypsin and chymotrypsin are known as the two main alkaline proteases responsible for the initial stage of protein hydrolysis in the fish intestine. Although the critical role of these proteases for protein hydrolysis in fish intestine is without doubt, the relative input of each enzyme in protein hydrolysis is still unclear. Data used in the present study has been retrieved from a bibliographic search using the Dimensions application (https://app.dimensions.ai/discover/publication tool). Retrieved articles were carefully inspected to identify whether they contained the description of the development of ontogenetic activities for trypsin, chymotrypsin, and total alkaline proteases in fish intestine. From the list of consulted articles, 21 studies were chosen based on correlation coefficients (Pearson correlation test), and four groups of fish were identified with high significant correlation between 1) the activity of chymotrypsin and total alkaline proteases; 2) the activity of trypsin, chymotrypsin, and total alkaline proteases; 3) the activity of trypsin and total alkaline proteases, and 4) mainly negative correlation between trypsin, chymotrypsin, and total alkaline proteases. These results indicated that the relative inputs of trypsin and chymotrypsin in protein hydrolysis may vary significantly among different fish species, which is a crucial point for proper understanding of species-specific digestive traits in both natural and aquaculture scenarios.

Abstract
The world tilapia production faces seasonal variations. However, very few nutritional studies have addressed suboptimal temperature. We evaluated the effect of two temperatures (20 or 30 °C) and two vegetable oil blends (one rich in corn oil (COR) and one rich linseed oil (LIN)) on tilapia growth, body composition, and blood parameters using a 2×2 factorial design with the following treatments: COR-20; LIN-20; COR-30; LIN-30 (Trial 1). In addition, we also evaluated the effect of postingestive signals of dietary oils when the organoleptic properties of diets were isolated (Trial 2). In the Trial 1, 256 fish (15.36 ± 0.14 g) were placed in 16 aquariums and submitted during 30 days to the 2×2 factorial designs: COR-20; LIN-20; COR-30; LIN-30. The temperatures were established in two independent water recirculation systems. In the Trial 2, 96 fish (34.02 ± 0.79 g) were placed in 12 aquariums and subjected to the same experimental design of Trial 1, but to evaluate fish feeding behavior. They were allowed to select the encapsulated diets provided in different feeding halls to evaluate if diet preferences are influenced by postingestive signals. As the Trial 1 results show, diets had no significant effects on growth, dietary protein use, and body centesimal composition, but 30 °C induced the best performance and protein deposition (P < 0.05). LIN-20 showed lower very-low-density lipoprotein and cortisol, but higher high-density lipoprotein (HDL), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and triglycerides (TG) than COR-20 (P < 0.05). COR-30 presented higher HDL, AST, ALT, TG, and cortisol than LIN-30. The fish fed COR showed lower C20:5n-3 (EPA) and higher n-6 than fish fed LIN (P < 0.05). The fish fed LIN had high n-3 highly unsaturated fatty acid. ∑ polyunsaturated fatty acid was higher at 30 °C. Finally, the tilapia in Trial 2 showed clear diet intake regulation and preference for LIN (P < 0.05), regardless of temperature. In short, lipid sources had no influence on tilapia performance; however, temperature affects carcass lipid deposition as well as fatty acids profile. Notably, the preference for linseed oil can suggest nutritional metabolic issues, contributing to animal behavior knowledge.

Abstract
The data collection was initiated to evaluate the effects of supplementary phospholipid to non-fishmeal based diet in order to make functional diets for the Malaysian Mahseer, Tor tambroides. Four iso-nitrogenous and iso-lipidic diets were formulated to consist 100% fishmeal (FM100), 0% fishmeal or full fishmeal replacement (FM0), and 0% fishmeal supplemented with 4% phospholipids (FM0+4%PL), 6% phospholipids (FM0+6%PL). A 60-day feeding trial was conducted and data collection was carried out for the following parameters; growth indices, somatic parameters, whole body nutrient composition, muscle fatty acid composition, haematocrit value and serum lysozyme activity. Fish fed FM0 diets showed significantly poor performance (P < 0.05) for all parameters. Fish showed improved growth, better whole body protein content and higher lysozyme activity when fed FM100 and phospholipid supplemented diets. In general, the current study validated that dietary PL supplementation may possibly improve the growth and survival of juvenile T. tambroides fed non-fishmeal based diets. Findings of this research could contribute in the aquaculture development of T. tambroides.

Abstract
Lysine, often referred to as the 'first limiting amino acid' in pig nutrition, plays a pivotal role in growth performance. Variability in lysine requirements arises due to factors such as age, sex and environmental conditions. Optimising pig health and production efficiency and minimising nitrogen excretion require accurate knowledge of estimated lysine requirements accounting for factors such as genetics, feeding practices, scientific advancements, and environmental considerations. This study aimed to determine standardised ileal digestible (SID) lysine requirements of weaned piglets (5-30 kg) based on a literature review using meta-analytical approaches. The literature review yielded 344 studies that were screened for title and abstract. In total, 41 experiments met the inclusion criteria, resulting in a dataset of 206 treatment means. Linear, quadratic and linear-plateau models were used to gain insight into the effect of SID lysine addition on average daily gain and feed efficiency for the combined dataset and separately for the individual experiments. Regression analysis showed a predominant linear increase in average daily gain and feed efficiency as an overall response to increasing lysine levels across both the combined dataset and individual experiments. Breakpoint estimation from the linear-plateau models was inconclusive, indicating that the optimal SID lysine requirement to maximise piglet growth performance likely exceeded the upper lysine levels tested in most studies, thus surpassing 1.3 g SID lysine per MJ net energy. This review indicates high values for the lysine requirement to achieve maximum growth performance. Results may suggest that piglet feed formulation should focus on an optimal dietary SID lysine to CP ratio, rather than SID lysine per kg of diet or unit of net energy. However, more research is needed to investigate this suggestion.

Abstract
Today, EU is largely (∼92%) dependent on the import of phosphates as most mines are located outside Europe. Because of the limited availability, phosphorus (P) is included on the list of Critical Raw Materials. Precipitated calcium phosphate (PCP) recovered from sewage sludge ash is a novel and sustainable option to replace mined P as raw material in feed phosphates, e.g. monocalcium phosphate (MCP) or dicalcium phosphate, but the digestibility has not yet been tested in vivo. The aim was therefore to determine PCP and MCP apparent ileal digestibility (AID) of P in broiler chickens and apparent (ATTD) and true (TTTD) total tract digestibility of P in growing pigs. A chicken study comprised 240 Ross 308 chickens that were housed in groups of eight from day 21 to day 28. Five diets were used, a basal diet and two test diets, which contributed either 0.075% (low) or 0.150% (high) additional P for each of the test sources (MCP and PCP). The basal and test diets were composed to achieve increasing levels of P and AID was calculated with regression analysis. In the pig study, eight individually housed pigs were used in a change-over study with two experimental periods. The pigs were fed a basal P-free diet in a preperiod to be able to estimate endogenous P losses and then two different diets in two periods using a change-over design, where MCP and PCP were the only P source, providing in total 0.33 (basal diet), 4.42 (MCP) and 3.53 (PCP) g kg-1P, respectively. The AID of P in PCP and MCP for chickens was 58.4 and 75.1% (P = 0.166). The ATTD and TTTD of P in PCP for pigs were 58.4 and 67.2%, respectively, which was lower (P < 0.001) than the corresponding values for MCP (82.1 and 89.1%), respectively. The digestibility of calcium (Ca) did not differ in the chicken diets with high inclusion levels of PCP and MCP (54.7 and 55.3%, respectively, P = 0.535), but was lower for PCP than MCP in the pig study (57.8 and 70.8% respectively, P = 0.001). In conclusion, the digestibility of P in PCP for chickens did not differ from conventional MCP, whereas for pigs, it was lower, but could be a viable alternative to other common sources of P.
