Abstract
BACKGROUND Digital health provides solutions that capture patient-reported outcomes (PROs) and allows symptom monitoring and patient management. Digital therapeutics is the provision to patients of evidence-based therapeutic interventions through software applications aimed at prevention, monitoring, management, and treatment of symptoms and diseases or for treatment optimization. The digital health solutions collecting PROs address many unmet needs, including access to care and reassurance, increase in adherence and treatment efficacy, and decrease in hospitalizations. With current developments in oncology including increased availability of oral drugs and reduced availability of healthcare professionals, these solutions offer an innovative approach to optimize healthcare resource utilization. DESIGN This scoping review clarifies the role and impact of the digital health solutions in oncology supportive care, with a view of the current segmentation according to their technical features (connection to sensors, PRO collection, remote monitoring, self-management in real time…), and identifies evidence from clinical studies published about their benefits and limitations and drivers and barriers to adoption. A qualitative summary is presented. RESULTS Sixty-six studies were identified and included in the qualitative synthesis. Studies supported the use of 38 digital health solutions collecting ePROs and allowing remote monitoring, with benefits to patients regarding symptom reporting and management, reduction in symptom distress, decrease in unplanned hospitalizations and related costs and improved quality of life and survival. Among those 38 solutions 21 provided patient self-management with impactful symptom support, improvement of QoL, usefulness and reassurance. Principal challenges are in developing and implementing digital solutions to suit most patients, while ensuring patient compliance and adaptability for use in different healthcare systems and living environments. CONCLUSIONS There is growing evidence that digital health collecting ePROs provide benefits to patients related to clinical and health economic endpoints. These digital solutions can be integrated into routine supportive care in oncology practice to provide improved patient-centered care.

Abstract
An application of telemedicine of growing interest and relevance is the use of personal computers and mobile devices to collect patient-reported outcomes (PROs). PROs are self-reports of patients' health status without interpretation by anyone else. The tools developed to assess PROs are known as patient-reported outcomes measures (PROMs). The technological innovations that have led to an increased ownership of electronic devices have also facilitated the development of electronic PROMs (ePROMs). ePROMs are a conduit for telemedicine in the care of patients with chronic diseases. Various studies have demonstrated that the use of ePROMs in routine clinical practice is both acceptable and feasible with patients increasingly expressing a preference for an electronic mode of administration. There is increasing evidence that the use of electronic patient-reported outcome (ePROMs) could have significant impacts on outcomes valued by patients, healthcare providers and researchers. Whilst the development and implementation of these systems may be initially costly and resource-intensive, patient preferences and existing evidence to support their implementation suggests the need for continued research prioritisation in this area. This narrative review summarises and discusses evidence of the impact of ePROMs on clinical parameters and outcomes relevant to chronic diseases. We also explore recently published literature regarding issues that may influence the robust implementation of ePROMs for routine clinical practice.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Effective management of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) relies on timely detection of clinical deterioration towards end stage kidney failure. We aimed to design an electronic Patient-Reported Outcome Measure (ePROM) system, which would allow patients with advanced CKD (pre-dialysis) to: (i) remotely self-report their symptoms using a simple and secure online platform; (ii) share the data with the clinical team in real-time via the electronic patient record to help optimise care. We adopted a staged development process which included: a systematic review of PROMs used in CKD; formation of a co-design team; prototype system design/development, user acceptance testing and refinement; finalisation of the system for testing in a pilot/feasibility trial. RESULTS A co-design team was convened, including patients with lived experience of CKD; clinical team members; IT/Informatics experts; academics; and Birmingham Clinical Trials Unit representatives. A prototype system was developed and iterative changes made before finalisation during a series of operational meetings. The system allows patients to remotely self-report their symptoms; provides tailored self-management advice; allows monitoring of real-time patient ePROM data; sends automated notifications to the patient/clinical team in the advent of a severe symptom report; and incorporates longitudinal ePROM symptom data into the electronic patient record. Feasibility of the system will be evaluated as part of the National Institute for Health Research funded RePROM (Renal electronic Patient-Reported Outcome Measure) pilot trial (ISRCTN12669006). CONCLUSIONS Routine ePROM collection with real-time feedback has the potential to improve outcomes and reduce health service costs. We have successfully developed a trial-ready ePROM system for advanced CKD, the feasibility of which is currently being explored in a pilot trial. Assuming feasibility is demonstrated, formal evaluation of efficacy will take place in a future multi-centre randomised controlled trial.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has sparked attention in many countries, especially those that have experienced a steep spike in the number of identified cases. The continued spread of the coronavirus suggests that this situation may be here to stay for a while. Contact tracing is a time-consuming and resource-intensive process, which taps on the already lean healthcare resource in certain countries. Furthermore, the massive infodemic on COVID-19 on the Internet has also resulted in widespread circulation of misinformation online. This outbreak has evoked irrational fear and anxiety from the public, which has resulted in destabilizing of societal norms, such as panic buying and hoarding of daily necessities, and can potentially pose serious health risks to the public. The aim of this paper is to present a COVID-19 Symptom Monitoring and Contact Tracking Record (CoV-SCR) web-app as a bottom-up, proactive approach to supplement the current management strategies for COVID-19. MAIN TEXT The CoV-SCR web-app ( http://bit.ly/covscrapp ) enables individuals to keep a personal record of their close contacts and monitor their symptoms on a daily basis, so that they can provide relevant and accurate details when they see the doctor and during the contact tracing process. Individuals can record their temperature and rate their symptoms on a 5-point severity scale, as well as record details of their travel and contact history for the last 14 days. The recorded information will be sent to their e-mail address for potential symptom monitoring and contact tracing purposes. In addition, this web-app consolidates evidence-based information on the coronavirus from credible sources, such as the World Health Organization, countries' health authorities, and PubMed literature. CONCLUSIONS A COVID-19 Symptom Monitoring and Contact Tracking web-app has been developed to facilitate contact tracing efforts through public engagement. This app serves an additional purpose of providing information about COVID-19 from reliable resources.

Abstract
Chronic pain is a medical condition that severely decreases the quality of life for those who struggle to cope with it. Interactive voice response (IVR) technology has the ability to track symptoms and disease progression, to investigate the relationships between symptom patterns and clinical outcomes, to assess the efficacy of ongoing treatments, and to directly serve as an adjunct to therapeutic treatment for chronic pain. While many approaches exist toward the management of chronic pain, all have their pitfalls and none work universally. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is one approach that has been shown to be fairly effective, and therapeutic interactive voice response technology provides a convenient and easy-to-use means of extending the therapeutic gains of CBT long after patients have discontinued clinical visitations. This review summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of IVR technology, provides evidence for the efficacy of the method in monitoring and managing chronic pain, and addresses potential future directions that the technology may take as a therapeutic intervention in its own right.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Older adults with cancer have complex medical needs and often experience higher rates of treatment-related toxicities compared to their younger counterparts. The advent of health information technologies can address multiple gaps in the care of this population. We review the role of existing and emerging technologies in facilitating the use of comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) in routine clinics, promoting symptom reporting, and monitoring medication adherence. RECENT FINDINGS Increasingly, studies demonstrate the feasibility of implementing electronic CGA in routine oncology practices. Evidence also suggests that electronic symptom reporting can improve outcomes in patients with cancer. In addition, technology devices can be used to promote adherence to cancer therapy. There are many opportunities for information technology to be integrated into the management and treatment of older adults with cancer. However, further evaluation of these technologies is needed to ensure that they meet the needs of the targeted end users.

Abstract
Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT) is a curative treatment option for patients with hematologic conditions but presents many complications that must be managed as a complex, chronic condition. Mobile health applications (mHealth apps) may permit tracking of symptoms in HCT. In seeking strategies to manage the complexities of HCT, our team collaborated with Sicklesoft, Inc., to develop an mHealth app specifically for HCT patients to allow for daily evaluation of patient health, Technology Recordings to better Understand Bone Marrow Transplantation (TRU-BMT). The primary value of this application is that of potentially enhancing the monitoring of symptoms and general health of patients undergoing HCT, with the ultimate goal of allowing earlier detection of adverse events, earlier intervention, and improving outcomes. To first evaluate patient interest in mHealth apps, we designed and administered an interest survey to patients at the 2017 BMT-InfoNet reunion. As a follow-up to the positive feedback received, we began testing the TRU-BMT app in a Phase 1 pilot study. Thirty patients were enrolled in this single-arm study and were given the TRU-BMT mHealth app on a smartphone device in addition to a wearable activity tracker. Patients were followed for up to 180 days, all the while receiving daily app monitoring. Adherence to TRU-BMT was approximately 30% daily and 44% weekly, and greater adherence was associated with increased meal completion, decreased heart rate, and shorter hospital stay. TRU-BMT assessments of symptom severity were significantly associated with duration of hospital stay and development of chronic graft-versus-host disease. Our findings suggest that using TRU-BMT throughout HCT is feasible for patients and established a proof-of-concept for a future randomized control trial of the TRU-BMT application in HCT. © 2021 American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation. Abstract
PURPOSE Electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePROs) are increasingly being used for symptom monitoring during routine cancer care, but have rarely been evaluated in diverse patient populations. We assessed ePRO user experiences and perceived value among Black and White cancer patients. METHODS We recruited 30 Black and 49 White bladder and prostate cancer patients from a single institution. Participants reported symptoms using either a web-based or automated telephone interface over 3 months and completed satisfaction surveys and qualitative interviews focused on user experiences and value. Using a narrative mixed methods approach, we evaluated overall and race-specific differences in ePRO user experiences and perceived value. RESULTS Most participants selected the web-based system, but Blacks were more likely to use the automated telephone-based system than Whites. In satisfaction surveys, Whites more commonly reported ease in understanding and reporting symptoms compared with Blacks. Blacks more often reported that the ePRO system was helpful in facilitating symptom-related discussions with clinicians. During interviews, Blacks described how the ePRO helped them recognize symptoms, while Whites found value in better understanding and tracking symptoms longitudinally. Blacks also expressed preferences for paper-based ePRO options due to perceived ease in better understanding of symptom items. CONCLUSION Electronic patient-reported outcomes are perceived as valuable for variable reasons by Black and White cancer populations, with greater perceived value for communicating with clinicians reported among Blacks. To optimize equitable uptake of ePROs, oncology practices should offer several ePRO options (e.g., web-based, phone-based), as well as paper-based options, and consider the e-health literacy needs of patients during implementation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES "PRO-cision Medicine," using patients' reports of their symptoms, functioning, and well-being to personalize their care, is becoming more prevalent. Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are assessed using standardized, validated measures. Research shows that clinicians' and patients' understanding of what the PRO scores mean and how to act on them is often suboptimal. Methods to improve interpretation of PRO scores and action based on PRO results can promote more effective use of PROs in practice. STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING A recent supplement to Medical Care describes various approaches to address challenges in interpreting and acting on PROs in practice and therefore serves as a "PRO-cision Medicine Methods Tool kit." This commentary provides an overview of the supplement and identifies cross-cutting themes guided by a theoretical framework. RESULTS Six papers describe methods for interpreting PROs, and eight papers describe how different PRO systems address interpreting PRO scores and/or acting on PRO results. Based on the theoretical framework, cross-cutting themes are described in terms of (1) providing PRO information, (2) using PRO data, (3) screening for problems and monitoring for changes, and (4) changing management and behavior. CONCLUSIONS The PRO-cision Medicine Methods Tool kit provides a useful resource for interpreting and acting on PRO scores to personalize patient care.

Abstract
PURPOSE Cancer survivors experience high rates of physical inactivity that often go unaddressed. The My Wellness Check program (MWC) is an EHR-integrated screening and referral system that includes surveillance of physical activity and triage to cancer rehabilitation medicine services. This study examined assessment of physical activity and subsequent referrals to cancer rehabilitation medicine. METHODS A secondary analysis was performed for survivors who completed the MWC between April 2021 and January 2022. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression modeled determinants of qualification for a physical activity referral and provider completion of referral to cancer rehabilitation medicine. Referral was based on responses to the Moving Through Cancer questionnaire. Adjusted odds ratios (aOR) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were calculated. RESULTS There were 1,174 survivors who completed the assessment, of which 46% (n = 540) reported physical inactivity. After controlling for group differences, individuals with moderate-severe physical dysfunction (aOR: 1.750; 95% CI: 1.137, 2.693) had higher odds, and self-reporting Hispanic or Latino ethnicity (aOR: 0.720; CI: 0.556, 0.932) had lower odds of physical inactivity. Only 31% (n = 168) received a completed physician referral to cancer rehabilitation medicine following identification of physical inactivity. No patient-level factors were associated with receiving a physician referral. Following referral, 8% (n = 13) utilized cancer rehabilitation medicine services. CONCLUSIONS Patient-level and clinical factors may predict qualification for physical activity referrals; however, they don't appear to predict referral completion to cancer rehabilitation medicine. Future research should focus on potential provider- and organization-level factors that interact and influence access to cancer rehabilitation medicine services.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION As the population is ageing, the number of older patients with multimorbidity including cancer continues to increase. To improve care for these patients, the European Union-funded project "Streamlined Geriatric and Oncological evaluation based on IC Technology" (GERONTE) was initiated to develop a new, patient-centred, holistic care pathway. The aim of this paper is to analyse what challenges are encountered in everyday clinical practice according to patients, their informal caregivers, and healthcare professionals as a starting point for the development of the care pathway. MATERIALS AND METHODS An expert panel of cancer and geriatrics specialists participated in an online survey to answer what challenges they experience in caring for older patients with multimorbidity including cancer and what treatment outcomes could be improved. Furthermore, in-depth interviews with older patients and their informal caregivers were organised to assess what challenges they experience. RESULTS Healthcare professionals (n = 36) most frequently mentioned the challenge of choosing the best treatment in light of the lack of evidence in this population and how to handle interactions between the (cancer) treatment and multimorbidities. Twelve patients and caregivers participated, and they most frequently mentioned challenges related to treatment outcomes, such as how to deal with symptoms of disease or treatment and how to maintain quality of life. From the challenges, five main themes emerged that should be taken into account when developing a new care pathway for older patients with multimorbidity including cancer. Two themes focus on decision making aspects such as personalized treatment recommendations and inclusion of non-oncologic information, two focus on patient support and monitoring to maintain quality of life and functioning, and one overarching theme addresses care coordination to prevent fragmentation of care. DISCUSSION In conclusion, the management of older patients with multimorbidity including cancer is complex and although progress has been made on improving aspects of their care, challenges remain and patients are at risk of receiving inappropriate, unnecessary, and potentially harmful treatment. A patient-centred care pathway that integrates solutions to the five main themes and that moves away from a single-disease centred approach is needed.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION In cancer care, symptom monitoring during treatment results in improved clinical outcomes such as improved quality of life, longer survival, and fewer hospital admissions. However, as the majority of patients with cancer are older and have multimorbidity, they may benefit from monitoring of additional symptoms. The aim of this study was to identify a core set of symptoms to monitor in older patients with multimorbidity treated for cancer, including symptoms caused by treatment side effects, destabilization of comorbidities, and functional decline. MATERIALS AND METHODS During a scoping literature search, 17 quality of life questionnaires were used to select 53 possible symptoms to monitor. An expert panel of cancer and geriatrics specialists was asked to participate in multiple online surveys to indicate whether these symptoms were not relevant to monitor, only relevant to monitor in a specific patient group, or relevant to monitor in all patients. In a subsequent round the list was reduced and the panel indicated how frequently these symptoms should be monitored during cancer treatment and after cancer treatment completion. Finally, a digital consensus meeting was organised to decide when symptoms had to trigger a recommendation to the patient to get in touch with their medical team. RESULTS In total, 30 healthcare professionals participated in the online surveys. After two rounds, a dataset of 19 symptoms related to cancer, cancer treatment, functional decline, and destabilization of comorbidities was agreed upon for monitoring. Five symptoms were selected for daily monitoring during treatment, seven for weekly, and seven for monthly. After treatment completion, the panel agreed upon less frequent reporting. Additionally, nine symptoms to be monitored only in patients with specific cancer types or treatment types were chosen, such as "cough up blood" in lung cancer. DISCUSSION This study is the first to identify a core set of symptoms to monitor in older patients with multimorbidity treated for cancer. Future research is needed to investigate whether the monitoring of these symptoms is feasible and improves clinical outcomes in older patients with multimorbidity treated for cancer.

Abstract
AIMS Patients with heart failure (HF) experience various signs and symptoms and have difficulties in perceiving them. Integrating insights from patients who have engaged in the process of symptom perception is crucial for enhancing our understanding of the theoretical concept of symptom perception. This study aimed to describe how patients with HF perceive symptoms through the processes of monitoring, awareness, and evaluation and what influences the process. METHODS AND RESULTS Using a qualitative descriptive design, we conducted in-person semi-structured interviews with a purposeful sample of 40 adults experiencing an unplanned hospitalization for a HF symptom exacerbation. We elicited how patients monitor, become aware of, and evaluate symptoms prior to hospitalization. Data were analysed using directed qualitative content analysis. One overarching theme and three major themes emerged. Patients demonstrated Body listening, which involved active and individualized symptom monitoring tactics to observe bodily changes outside one's usual range. Trajectory of bodily change involved the patterns or characteristics of bodily changes that became apparent to patients. Three subthemes-sudden and alarming change, gradual change, and fluctuating change emerged. Patients evaluated symptoms through an Exclusionary process, sequentially attributing symptoms to a cause through a cognitive process of excluding possible causes until the most plausible cause remained. Facilitators and barriers to symptom monitoring, awareness, and evaluation were identified. CONCLUSION This study elaborates the comprehensive symptom perception process used by adults with HF. Tailored nursing interventions should be developed based on the factors identified in each phase of the process to improve symptom perception in HF.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aims to identify factors associated with the adoption and compliance of electronic patient-reported outcome measure (ePROM) use among cancer patients in a real-world setting. METHODS This prospective cohort study was conducted at the Samsung Medical Center in Seoul, Korea, from September 2018 to January 2019. Cancer patients aged 18 years or older who owned smartphones and who were receiving chemotherapy or radiation therapy were eligible for this study. Patients were asked to use the app to report their symptoms every 7 days for a total of 21 days (3 weeks). Logistic regression was performed to identify the factors associated with the adoption and compliance. RESULTS Among 580 patients, 417 (71.9%) adopted the ePROM app and 159 (27.4%) out of 417 had good compliance. Patients who had greater expectations regarding the ease of use (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 2.67, 95% CI: 1.28-5.57) and usefulness (aOR 1.69, 95% CI: 1.05-2.72) of the ePROM app were more likely to adopt the app than those who did not. Patients who had greater satisfaction with usefulness (aOR 1.89, 95% CI 1.10-3.25) were more likely to comply with using the app, but satisfaction with ease of use was not related to the compliance. CONCLUSION While expectation regarding the ease of use and usefulness of the ePROM app was associated with the adoption of the app, satisfaction with ease of use was not related to compliance with the ePROM app. Satisfaction with usefulness was associated with the compliance of ePROM app use.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) can be used to monitor patients during treatment. Healthcare provider preferences for individualized vs. standardized PROs have been understudied. METHODS This study surveyed oncology and mental health providers to compare attitudes towards individualized and standardized PROs. We have developed a method for individualizing PROs, called precision PROs, and the survey specifically assessed preferences for this method. We compared attitudes and preferences by provider type and by whether respondents were current or never users of PROs. RESULTS Oncology providers expressed more positive attitudes for standardized PROs in treatment planning compared to mental health providers (F(1,440) = 5.978, p = 0.015). The interaction between provider type (oncology vs. mental health) and type of PRO (individualized vs. standardized) was not significant for the attitudes about the clinical utility of PROs (p = 0.709). When directly asked about the precision PRO approach, oncologists were less likely to prefer standardized items (OR = 0.478, p = 0.001) or have no preference (OR = 0.445, p = 0.007) to the precision PRO approach when compared to mental health providers. Qualitative analyses suggested standardized PROs may be simpler or easier to understand whereas individualized PROs better capture patient variability and the unique aspects of each patient's condition. Some mental health providers expressed reticence about letting patients choose how to tailor PROs. Never users of PROs reported more positive attitudes towards individualized measures than standardized measures whereas current users of PROs did not have a difference in attitudes (p = 0.010). User status was mostly unrelated to preferences. CONCLUSION Results suggest that healthcare provider preference for individualized PROs may differ by medical specialty. How PROs are tailored may need to differ by discipline. This is particularly important given that previous research showing a preference for individualized PROs over standardized was conducted with psychotherapists. Further research on patient preferences for individualized and standardized PROs is warranted as is research on the clinical utility of individualized PROs such as the precision PRO approach.

Abstract
PURPOSE The benefit of patient-reported outcomes (PRO) in routine oncology practice is increasingly recognized. This study aimed to develop a team-based monitoring and intervention system using electronic PRO (ePRO) and to evaluate its impact at an outpatient oncology clinic. METHODS Patients receiving chemotherapy at our department were eligible for this study. Those who had access to a smartphone or tablet (Bring Your Own Device [BYOD]) and consented participated, and reported 28 symptoms weekly via 3H P-guardian downloaded on their BYOD. E-mail alerts were sent to attending healthcare providers when participants reported at least grade 3 severity for any of nine symptoms (decreased appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, shortness of breath, pain, insomnia, fatigue, and sadness), which prompted interventions. Comparisons of overall survival (OS), emergency room visits, and hospitalizations were conducted using propensity scores. RESULTS Among 203 patients who received chemotherapy from September 2021 to August 2023, 77 participated in ePRO monitoring. The overall response rate was 55% (1991 valid responses out of a total of 3597 expected time points), and the median individual response rate was 66% (range, 0-100%). Of 1991 valid responses, 250 (13%) prompted alerts, and most interventions were initiated by making telephone calls. OS and other clinical outcomes were better in ePRO participants compared with non-participants, but these outcomes did not differ significantly between the ePRO and pre-ePRO eras. CONCLUSIONS It was feasible to develop a multi-professional team-based monitoring and intervention system using ePRO at a single-center outpatient oncology clinic. Our results indicate that weekly monitoring of ePRO, along with corresponding interventions, may benefit patients receiving chemotherapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Citizen science as an approach to merge society and science is not a new paradigm. Yet it is not common in public health, epidemiology, or medical sciences. SMARAGD (Sensors for Measuring Aerosols and ReActive Gases to Deduce health effects) assesses air pollution at participants' homes or workplaces in Cologne, Germany, as feasibility study with a citizen science approach. Personal exposure to air pollutants is difficult to study, because the distribution of pollutants is heterogeneous, especially in urban areas. Targeted data collection allows to establish connections between air pollutant concentration and the health of the study population. Air pollution is among the most urgent health risks worldwide. Yet links of individualized pollution levels and respiratory infections remain to be validated, which also applies for the feasibility of the citizen science approach for epidemiological studies. METHODS We co-designed a prospective feasibility study with two groups of volunteers from Cologne, Germany. These citizen scientists and researchers determined that low-cost air-quality sensors (hereafter low-cost sensors) were to be mounted at participants' homes/workplaces to acquire stationary data. The advantage of deploying low-cost sensors is the achievable physical proximity to the participants providing health data. Recruitment started in March 2021 and is currently ongoing (as of 09/22). Sensor units specifically developed for this study using commercially available electronic sensor components will measure particulate matter and trace gases such as ozone, nitrogen oxides, and carbon monoxide. Health data are collected using the eResearch system "Prospective Management and Monitoring-App" (PIA). Due to the ongoing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, we also focus on COVID-19 as respiratory infection. DISCUSSION Citizen science offers many benefits for science in general but also for epidemiological studies. It provides scientific information to society, enables scientific thinking in critical discourses, can counter anti-scientific ideologies, and takes into account the interests of society. However, it poses many challenges, as it requires extensive resources from researchers and society and can raise concerns regarding data protection and methodological challenges such as selection bias.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Monitoring for the side effects of novel therapies using patient-reported outcomes (PROs) is critical for ensuring patient safety. Existing static patient-reported outcome measures may not provide adequate coverage of novel side effects. Item libraries provide a flexible approach to monitoring for side effects using customized item lists, but the ideal process for matching side effects to items sourced from multiple item libraries is yet to be established. We sought to develop a pragmatic process for mapping side effects to items from three major item libraries using immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) side effects as an example. METHODS Using a consumer- and clinician-driven list of 36 ICI side effects, two authors independently mapped side effects to Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Event (CTCAE) terms, and then to three item libraries: the Patient-Reported Outcome version of the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (PRO-CTCAE), the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Item Library, and the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy (FACIT) searchable library. The rates of inter-rater agreement were recorded. Following item collation from the item libraries, we devised criteria for selecting the optimal item for each side effect for inclusion in a future electronic PRO system based on guidance from the above groups. RESULTS All 36 side effects mapped to at least one CTCAE term, with eight mapping to more than one term. Twenty-three side effects mapped to at least one PRO-CTCAE term, 35 side effects mapped to at least one EORTC item, and 31 side effects mapped to at least one FACIT item. The inter-rater agreement rate was 100% (PRO-CTCAE), 83% (EORTC) and 75% (FACIT). Pre-determined criteria were applied to select the optimal item for each side effect from the three item libraries, producing a final 61-item list. CONCLUSION Using ICI side effects as an example, we developed a pragmatic approach to creating customized item lists from three major item libraries to monitor for side effects of novel therapies in routine care. This process highlighted the challenges of using item libraries and priorities for future work to improve their usability.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study analyzed the acceptability of an electronic patient-reported outcomes measures-based model of care (IePRO MoC) and the usability of its complementary ePROM mobile app to monitor and manage symptoms related to immune checkpoint inhibitors. In this MoC, symptoms reported by patients treated at an outpatient clinic were reviewed by oncology triage nurses who provided symptom management interventions by telephone. METHODS As part of a larger intervention trial (ClinicalTrials.gov.NCT05530187) we conducted an abductive, semantic thematic analysis through semistructured interviews of patients participating in the intervention arm. Acceptability was deduced from Sekhon et al's (2017) Theoretical Framework of Acceptability completed with inductively generated themes. Usability analysis was guided by the mHealth App Usability Questionnaire's domains by Zhoul et al (2019). RESULTS A total of 17 interviews were performed. The IePRO MoC was reported to be an acceptable intervention. Patients expressed feeling safe and empowered due to continuous monitoring and timely support from nurses. Personalized support motivated patients to use the MoC throughout treatment. Some questioned the predefined response options of the app, and the standardized approach regarding notifications and monitoring requirements. Despite high app usability, some expressed discomfort from being frequently reminded of their illness and being confronted with questions about their sexuality and other intimate themes. CONCLUSIONS The feedback loop between patients and nurses facilitated the acceptability of the IePRO MoC. The app's usability further facilitated adherence to the MoC. A more personalized approach regarding the frequency of assessments and the way symptoms are conveyed is recommended to decrease discomfort and support the implementation of similar MoCs in the future.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Remote monitoring using electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePROs) may help identify immune-related adverse events (irAEs) and direct self-management. There is no consensus regarding thresholds to alert providers about potentially severe irAEs or when to instigate evidence-based self-management. We aimed to develop consensus around alert thresholds and self-management advice for side-effects suggestive of an irAE which can be deployed as part of remote monitoring systems. METHODS A two-round international modified Delphi survey including co-authors of major international irAE guidelines and selected immuno-oncology experts was conducted. Round 1 (R1): participants reviewed alert thresholds graded as per the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) and self-management statements for 36 side-effects. Participants stated whether they agreed or disagreed with the proposed thresholds and self-management statements. If ≥ 75% of participants agreed, consensus was reached. Prior to Round 2 (R2), thresholds and self-management statements that did not reach consensus in R1 were modified. In R2, participants were asked whether they agreed or disagreed with the modifications. RESULTS In R1, 34 participants responded (North America: 18, 52.9%; Europe: 12, 35.3%; Asia-Pacific: 4, 11.8%; median duration of experience in current role, 13.5 years (range, 3-46 years)), with 33 complete responses received. Twenty-nine alert thresholds and 33 self-management statements reached consensus. For R2, seven alert thresholds were increased from CTCAE Grade 1 to 2 based on participant comments, and three self-management statements were amended. Six self-management statements which achieved consensus were amended and re-presented in R2. In R2, 31 participants responded (North America: 18, 58.1%; Europe: 9, 29%; Asia-Pacific: 4, 12.9%; median duration of experience in current role, 13 years (range, 3-40 years)), with 30 complete responses received. All seven alert thresholds and nine self-management statements achieved consensus. CONCLUSION This survey developed international consensus regarding alert thresholds and self-management advice for common, clinically relevant side-effects suggestive of an irAE for ePRO monitoring systems with international applicability. Self-management statements will inform written materials for patients.

Abstract
The development of the first European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Group (QLG) health-related quality of life (HRQoL) questionnaires contributed to the systematic uptake of HRQoL as an endpoint in cancer clinical trials, and to the measurement of HRQoL for individual assessment in routine care. Following a modular approach, these patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures (PROMs) ensure that both generic and disease-specific issues are assessed, enabling comparison of PROs across groups and studies. The application of a comprehensive and continually refined methodology for developing and updating these PROMs has been crucial in supporting their psychometric and cross-cultural validity, and their continued implementation in clinical research. However, the advancement of measurement science, the more widespread implementation of PROMs, and the significant evolution of anti-cancer therapies over the last decades have highlighted the need to adopt more flexible approaches to PRO assessment to ensure that PROMs remain relevant and fit-for-purpose. The QLG has responded to this call by implementing more tailored PRO measurement approaches through the development and release of the computerised adaptive test (CAT) version of the EORTC QLQ-C30 (i.e., the EORTC CAT Core) and the EORTC Item Library. The EORTC Item Library is an interactive online platform that allows for the creation of customised questionnaires (item lists) from the pool of available items derived from established EORTC QLG PROMs. The aim of this article is to describe the current EORTC QLG approach to PRO measurement in oncology, covering important historical developments and best practice recommendations.

Abstract
Patients with heart failure have difficulty recognizing and identifying changes in bodily sensations, despite the importance of symptom monitoring. The way patients with heart failure experience their bodies from exacerbation to recovery is poorly understood. We aimed to describe the lived bodily experience of heart failure from exacerbation to recovery. Participatory observations and interviews were conducted in seven patients admitted to the intensive care unit with worsening heart failure. Benner's interpretive phenomenology was used for analysis. Four major themes were identified: a non-functional body becomes the central concern and an object; being conscious of bodily changes before hospitalization when asked; the central concern shifted to daily life and the body becomes the background; and having a feeling of death in the body that no longer functions or a weakened body after recovery. This study found that patients with heart failure were conscious and concerned about their bodies changing as they underwent rapid changes during exacerbations and recovery. In addition, immediately after their bodies recovered and until they were discharged from the hospital, they looked toward their daily lives through their bodily experiences during heart failure exacerbation. The lived bodily experience of heart failure, which is less conscious in daily life, is made conscious through storytelling in the period immediately following recovery from an acute exacerbation and can be the basis for subsequent self-care exploration.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The app "MinDag" (MyDay) was developed as a tool for monitoring mood, symptoms and illness-relevant behaviour in the initial treatment of bipolar disorder. Digital self-monitoring may provide patients and clinicians with valuable data for tailoring treatment interventions. This study aims to evaluate the practical use and clinical implications of integrating MinDag in the early treatment of bipolar disorder from the perspectives of both patients and clinicians. METHODS The MinDag app includes six content modules covering mood, sleep, functioning/activities, substance use, emotional reactivity, and psychotic symptoms. Patients were asked to use the app for six months, and automated feedback based on the app registrations was delivered to the patients' clinicians biweekly. The study involved quantitative evaluations completed by patients (n = 20), as well as interviews with patients (n = 7) and clinicians (n = 2). RESULTS Overall, the patients reported that they felt that MinDag was safe, relevant and easy to use, although technical difficulties such as too many automated reminders and need for reinstallations were reported. The patients appreciated the potential for increased awareness of their mental health, but expressed a desire for direct access to their data. Clinicians found the visual reports and feedback useful for tailoring treatment, even though the alert system for high-risk variables needed refinement. The quantitative evaluations indicated a positive general reception, with suggestions for improvement in usability and accessibility. CONCLUSION The MinDag app shows promise as a tool for enhancing the treatment of bipolar disorder by facilitating self-monitoring and providing actionable data to clinicians. However, technical issues and the need for direct patient access to data must be addressed. Development of digital tools to support the treatment of bipolar disorder and other mental health conditions is resource demanding, and there is a need to clarify criteria to establish proof of concept to guide the selection of tools for upscaling and implementation.

Abstract
Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) require lifelong and personalized care by a multidisciplinary healthcare team. However, the traditional medical model is not ideal for patients who require continuous close monitoring and whose symptoms may dramatically worsen between regularly scheduled visits. Additionally, close dietary follow-up and monitoring of IBD in a traditional setting are challenging because of the disease complexity, high pressure on outpatient clinics with a small number of IBD specialist dietitians, and rising incidence. Given the significant burden of IBD, there is a need to develop effective dietary management strategies. The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic caused an unprecedented shift from in-person care to delivering health care via technological remote devices. Traditional nutrition therapy and consultation can be provided by telenutrition through remote electronic communication applications that could greatly benefit patient care. Telenutrition might be useful, safe, and cost-effective compared with standard care. It is likely that virtual care for chronic diseases including IBD will continue in some form into the future. This review article summarizes the evidence about telenutrition applications in the management of IBD patients, and we gave an overview of the acceptance and impact of these interventions on health outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Electronic patient-reported outcome (ePRO) systems can be used to engage patients in remote symptom monitoring to support postoperative care. We interviewed thoracic surgery patients with ePRO experience to identify factors that influenced use of ePROs to report their symptoms post-discharge. METHOD This qualitative study used semi-structured telephone interviews with adults who underwent major thoracic surgery at an academic medical center in North Carolina. Individuals who enrolled in symptom monitoring, completed at least one ePRO survey, and were reachable by phone for the interview were included. The ePRO surveys assessed 10 symptoms, including validated Patient-Reported Outcome Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (PRO-CTCAE) measures and thoracic surgery-specific questions. Surveys, offered via web-based and automated telephone options, were administered for four weeks post-discharge with alerts sent to clinicians for concerning symptoms. The interviews were guided by the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation model for behavior change (COM-B) and examined factors that influenced patients' completion of ePRO surveys post-discharge. Team members independently coded interviews and identified themes, informed by COM-B. We report descriptive statistics (demographics, number of surveys completed) and themes organized by COM-B components. RESULTS Of 28 patients invited, 25 (89%) completed interviews from July to October 2022. Participants were a median 58 years, 56% female, 80% White, and 56% had a history of malignancy. They completed 131/150 (87%) possible ePRO surveys. For capability, participants reported building ePROs into their routine and having the skills and knowledge, but lacking physical and emotional energy, to complete ePROs. For opportunity, participants identified the ease and convenience of accessing ePROs and providers' validation of ePROs. Motivators were perceived benefits of a deepening connection to their clinical team, improved symptom management for themselves and others, and self-reflection about their recovery. Factors limiting motivation included lack of clarity about the purpose of ePROs and a disconnect between symptom items and individual recovery experience. CONCLUSIONS Patients described being motivated to complete ePROs when reinforced by clinicians and considered ePROs as valuable to their post-discharge experience. Future work should enhance ePRO patient education, improve provider alerts and communications about ePROs, and integrate options to capture patients' complex health journeys.
