Fluorescent Microarrays of in Situ Crystallized Perovskite Nanocomposites Fabricated for Patterned Applications by Using Inkjet Printing

Perovskite materials have exhibited promising potential for universal applications including backlighting, color conversion, and anticounterfeiting labels fabricated using solution processes. However, owing to the tendency of those materials to have uncontrollable morphologies and to form large crystals, they cannot be utilized in discontinuous microminiaturization, which is crucial for practical optoelectronic applications. In this research, combining the effects of adding polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), precisely controlling the inkjet printing technique, and using a postprocessing procedure, we were able to fabricate in situ crystallized perovskite-PVP nanocomposite microarrays with perfect morphologies. The viscosity of the perovskite precursor increased with the addition of PVP, eliminating the outward capillary flow that induces the coffee-ring effect. In addition, because of the presence of metallic bonds with the C═O groups in PVP and the spatial confinement of such a polymer, we were able to fabricate regulated CsPbBr₃ nanocrystals capped with PVP and with a uniform size distribution. The as-printed patterns showed excellent homogeneity on a macroscale and high reproducibility on a microscale; furthermore, those patterns were invisible in the ambient environment, compatible with flexible substrates, and cost-efficient to produce, indicating that this technique holds promising potential for applications such as anticounterfeiting labels.

Control of Luminescence by Tuning of Crystal Symmetry and Local Structure in Mn4+ -Activated Narrow Band Fluoride Phosphors

Mn⁴⁺ -doped fluoride phosphors have been widely used in wide-gamut backlighting devices because of their extremely narrow emission band. Solid solutions of Na₂ (Si_x Ge_1-x )F₆ :Mn⁴⁺ and Na₂ (Ge_y Ti_1-y )F₆ :Mn⁴⁺ were successfully synthesized to elucidate the behavior of the zero-phonon line (ZPL) in different structures. The ratio between ZPL and the highest emission intensity υ₆ phonon sideband exhibits a strong relationship with luminescent decay rate. First-principles calculations are conducted to model the variation in the structural and electronic properties of the prepared solid solutions as a function of the composition. To compensate for the limitations of the Rietveld refinement, electron paramagnetic resonance and high-resolution steady-state emission spectra are used to confirm the diverse local environment for Mn⁴⁺ in the structure. Finally, the spectral luminous efficacy of radiation (LER) is used to reveal the important role of ZPL in practical applications.

Experimental Techniques for Bubble Dynamics Analysis in Microchannels: A Review

Experimental studies employing advanced measurement techniques have played an important role in the advancement of two-phase microfluidic systems. In particular, flow visualization is very helpful in understanding the physics of two-phase phenomenon in microdevices. The objective of this article is to provide a brief but inclusive review of the available methods for studying bubble dynamics in microchannels and to introduce prior studies, which developed these techniques or utilized them for a particular microchannel application. The majority of experimental techniques used for characterizing two-phase flow in microchannels employs high-speed imaging and requires direct optical access to the flow. Such methods include conventional brightfield microscopy, fluorescent microscopy, confocal scanning laser microscopy, and micro particle image velocimetry (micro-PIV). The application of these methods, as well as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and some novel techniques employing nonintrusive sensors, to multiphase microfluidic systems is presented in this review.
