Dopant-free NiOx Nanocrystals: A Low-cost and Stable Hole Transport Material for Commercializing Perovskite Optoelectronics

Advancing inverted (p-i-n) perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is critical for commercial applications given their compatibility with different bottom cells for tandem photovoltaics, low-temperature processability (≤100 °C), and promising operational stability. Although inverted PSCs have achieved an efficiency of over 25% using doped or expensive organic hole transporting materials (HTMs), their fabrication cost and stability still cannot meet the requirements for their commercialization. Recently, dopant-free and low-cost non-stoichiometric nickel oxide nanocrystals (NiOx NCs) have been extensively studied as a low-cost and effective HTM in perovskite optoelectronics. In this minireview, we summarize the synthesis and surface-functionalization methods for NiOx NCs. Then, the applications of NiOx NCs in other perovskite optoelectronics beyond photovoltaics are discussed. Finally, we provide a perspective for the future development of NiOx NCs for the commercialization of perovskite optoelectronics.

The Combined Anti-Tumor Efficacy of Bioactive Hydroxyapatite Nanoparticles Loaded with Altretamine

In the current study, the combined anti-tumor efficacy of bioactive hydroxyapatite nano- particles (HA-NPs) loaded with altretamine (ALT) was evaluated. The well-known fact that HA has great biological compatibility was confirmed through the findings of the hemolytic experiments and a maximum IC₅₀ value seen in the MTT testing. The preparation of HA-NPs was performed using the chemical precipitation process. An in vitro release investigation was conducted, and the results demonstrated the sustained drug release of the altretamine-loaded hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (ALT-HA-NPs). Studies using the JURKAT E6.1 cell lines MTT assay, and cell uptake, as well as in vivo pharmacokinetic tests using Wistar rats demonstrated that the ALT-HA-NPs were easily absorbed by the cells. A putative synergism between the action of the Ca²⁺ ions and the anticancer drug obtained from the carrier was indicated by the fact that the ALT-HA-NPs displayed cytotoxicity comparable to the free ALT at 1/10th of the ALT concentration. It has been suggested that a rise in intracellular Ca²⁺ ions causes cells to undergo apoptosis. Ehrlich's ascites model in Balb/c mice showed comparable synergistic efficacy in a tumor regression trial. While the ALT-HA-NPs were able to shrink the tumor size by six times, the free ALT was only able to reduce the tumor volume by half.

Synthesis and characterization of pristine and strontium-doped zinc oxide nanoparticles for methyl green photo-degradation application

Herein we describe an effective route for the degradation of methyl green (MG) dye under visible light illumination by pristine and strontium (Sr)-doped zinc oxide (ZnO) photocatalysts (synthesized by the simple chemical precipitation method). The x-ray diffraction structural analysis has confirmed that both photocatalysts exhibit the hexagonal wurtzite structure; without any additional phase formation in Sr-doped ZnO, in particular. The optical properties of the synthesized photocatalysts have been investigated using UV-vis absorption spectroscopy in the wavelength range of 250-800 nm. Through Tauc's plot, the slight decrease from 3.3 to 3.2 eV in band gap energy has been elucidated (in the case of Sr-doped ZnO), which has been further confirmed by the quenching in the intensity of Photoluminescence (PL) emission spectrum. This may be due to sub-band level formation between valence and conduction band, caused by the impregnation of Sr²⁺ions into ZnO host. The morphological study has also been performed using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope, which indicates nanoparticles (NPs) based surface texture for both photocatalysts. During the photocatalytic activity study, after 30 min irradiation of visible light, ∼65.7% and ∼84.8% photocatalytic degradation of MG dye has been achieved for pristine and Sr-doped (2 wt%) ZnO photocatalysts, respectively. The rate of photocatalytic reaction (K) has been observed to be ∼0.06399 min^-1for Sr-doped (2 wt%), whereas nearly half magnitude ∼0.03403 min^-1has been observed for pristine ZnO, respectively. The significantly improved photodegradation activity may be ascribed to the relatively broader optical absorption capability, surface defects and the enhanced charge separation efficiency of the Sr-doped ZnO photocatalyst.
