Abstract
Enteral nutrition (EN) provides critical macro and micronutrients to individuals who cannot maintain sufficient oral intake to meet their nutritional needs. EN is most commonly required for neurological conditions that impair swallow function, such as stroke, amytrophic lateral sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease. An inability to swallow due to mechanical ventilation and altered mental status are also common conditions that necessitate the use of EN. EN can be short or long term and delivered gastrically or post-pylorically. The expected duration and site of feeding determine the type of feeding tube used. Many commercial EN formulas are available. In addition to standard formulations, disease specific, peptide-based, and blenderized formulas are also available. Several other factors should be considered when providing EN, including timing and rate of initiation, advancement regimen, feeding modality, and risk of complications. Careful and comprehensive assessment of the patient will help to ensure that nutritionally complete and clinically appropriate EN is delivered safely.

Toxic metals (Pb and Cd) and their respective antagonists (Ca and Zn) in infant formulas and milk marketed in Brasilia, Brazil. Abstract
In non-ideal scenarios involving partial or non-breastfeeding, cow's milk-based dairy products are mainstream in infant feeding. Therefore, it is important to study the concentrations of potentially neurotoxic contaminants (Pb and Cd) and their respective counteracting elements (Ca and Zn) in infant dairy products. Fifty-five brands of infant formulas and milk sold in Brasilia, Brazil were analyzed. The dairy products came from areas in the central-west (26%), southeast (29%) and south of Brazil (36%) extending as far as Argentina (7%) and the Netherlands (2%). For toxic Pb and Cd, median concentrations in powdered samples were 0.109 mg/kg and 0.033 mg/kg, respectively; in fluid samples median Pb concentration was 0.084 mg/kg, but median Cd concentration was below the limit of detection and overall values were below reference safety levels. However, 62% of these samples presented higher Pb concentration values than those established by FAO/WHO. Although the inverse correlation between Cd and Zn (Spearman r = -0.116; P = 0.590) was not statistically significant, the positive correlation between Ca and Pb was (Spearman r = 0.619; P < 0.0001). Additionally, there was a significant correlation between Pb and Cd. Furthermore, the study also revealed that provision of the essential trace element Zn in infant formulas can provide adequate amounts of the recommended daily requirements. Infant formulas and milk sold for consumption by infants and children can be an efficient tool to monitor neurotoxic metal risk exposure among young children.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Infantile colic is a frequent problem in neonates and infants. This review addresses current management including the results for nutrient modifications; soy-based formulas; and prebiotics, probiotics, and synbiotics. PURPOSE Given the evidence that there is still an unmet clinical need, as current treatments are incompletely efficacious, we have examined the evidence around three hypothetical mechanisms that could potentially be involved in etiopathogenesis of infantile colic: immaturity of bile acid mechanisms that alter intraluminal and absorptive mechanisms, immaturity in motility and alterations in the microbiome. Understanding these potential mechanisms may lead to the introduction of diagnostic procedures that should enhance the selection or individualization of therapy for infantile colic.

Abstract
Red cell indices and formulas have been established as simple, fast, and inexpensive means for discrimination between the β-thalassemia (β-thal) trait and iron deficiency. However, there were no reports of the diagnostic reliability of different red cell indices and formulas in discrimination of β-thal trait from iron deficiency in the Thai population. The aim of this study was to examine the diagnostic accuracy of five red cell indices [red blood cell (RBC) count, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (Hb) (MCH), mean corpuscular Hb concentration (MCHC), and red cell distribution width (RDW)] and eight formulas (Sirdah, Green & King, RDW Index, Menzler, England & Fraser, Ehsani, Srivastava, and Shine & Lal). Their sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative prognostic value and efficiency, were analyzed in 77 Thai school children, 21 with the β-thal trait and 56 with iron deficiency. The Sirdah and Srivastava formulas proved to be the most reliable indexes as they had 100.0% sensitivity and negative predictive value, the highest efficiency (97.4%), and the highest Youden's Index value (96.4%). Therefore, these formulas could be used in initial discrimination of the β-thal trait from iron deficiency in Thai school children.

Abstract
Since the early 1900s, the scope of burn resuscitation has evolved dramatically. Due to various advances in pre-hospital care and training, under-resuscitation of patients with severe burns is now relatively uncommon. Over-resuscitation, otherwise known as “fluid creep”, has emerged as one of the most important problems during the initial phases of burn care over the past decade. To avoid the complications of over-resuscitation, careful hourly titration of fluid rates based on compilation of various clinical end points by a bedside provider is vital. The aim of this review is to provide a practical approach to the resuscitation of severely burned patients.

Abstract
In order to fully understand the progresses and achievements in Chinese medicines for the treatment of prostate cancer, we summarize all the available reports on formulas, extracts, and compounds of Chinese medicines against prostate cancer. A number of clinical trials verified that traditional Chinese formulas had some unique advantages in the treatment of prostate cancer. Many Chinese medicine extracts could protect against prostate cancer, and many compounds isolated from Chinese traditional medicines showed a clear anti-prostate cancer effect. However, Chinese medicines are facing many problems regarding their multicomponent nature, complicated mechanisms of action, and high doses required for therapy. Herein, we review the functions of Chinese medicines in prostate cancer and focus on their mechanisms. The review will deepen the understanding of Chinese medicines potential in the anti-prostate cancer field. In addition, we put forward a question concerning the current research on Chinese medicines: in order to better illustrate that Chinese medicines can be used in the clinical treatment of prostate cancer, should our research focus on formulas, extracts, or compounds?

Abstract
PURPOSE To analyze the accuracy of 18 intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation formulas in eyes with axial length (AL) ≤ 22 mm. METHODS We analyzed 241 eyes of 241 patients. Eighteen formulas were evaluated: Barrett Universal II (BUII), EVO 2.0, Haigis, Hoffer Q, Holladay 1 and 2, Cooke K6, Kane, LadasSuperFormula AI, Naeser 2, Olsen, Panacea, Pearl-DGS, RBF 2.0, SRK/T, T2, VRF and VRF-G. Optical biometry was performed with an IOLMaster 700 (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Jena, Germany). With lens constants optimized for the whole range of AL, the mean prediction error (PE) and its standard deviation (SD), the median absolute error (MedAE), the mean absolute error (MAE) and the percentage of eyes with PEs within ±0.25 D, ±0.50 D and <±1.00 D were calculated. RESULTS Post-hoc analysis of the absolute PE revealed statistically significant differences (P < .05) between some of the newer formulas (K6, Kane, Naeser 2, Olsen and VRF-G), which obtained the lowest MedAE (respectively, 0.308, 0.300, 0.277, 0.310 and 0.276 D) and the remaining ones. These formulas yielded also the highest percentage of eyes with a PE within ±0.50 D (70.54%, 72.20%, 71.37%, 70.95% and 73.03%, respectively), whereas Panacea and SRK/T yielded the lowest percentage (62.24%), with a stastically significant difference (P < .05) with respect to most formulas. CONCLUSION In eyes with AL ≤22.0 mm, new formulas (K6, Kane, Naeser 2, Olsen and VRF-G) offer the most accurate predictions of postoperative refraction.

β-Thalassemia (β-thal) and iron deficiency cause most microcytic anemias. Red cell indices and formulas have been established as simple, fast, and inexpensive in discrimination between these two hematological disorders in school children. However, whether these formulas could be applied to diagnose β-thal trait and iron deficiency in adult Thai subjects is unclear. The aim of this study was to examine the diagnostic accuracy of five red cell indices [red blood cell (RBC) counts, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (Hb) (MCH), mean corpuscular Hb concentration (MCHC), and red cell distribution width (RDW)] and nine formulas (RDW/RBC, RDW Index, Sirdah, Green and King, Mentzer, England and Fraser, Ehsani, Srivastava and Shine and Lal). Their sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive values (NPV), efficiency, and Youden's Index were analyzed in 102 β-thal trait and 64 iron deficiency adult Thai subjects. The RDW/RBC formula proved to be the most reliable index as they had 100.0% specificity and PPV and the highest efficiency (94.58%) and Youden's Index (91.18%), as well as high sensitivity (91.18%) and NPV (87.67%). Therefore, this formula could be used in initial discrimination of β-thal trait from iron deficiency in adult Thai subjects.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE There is no clear consensus on which intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation formula provides the best refractive prediction in the paediatric population. BACKGROUND To evaluate the predictability of desired postoperative refractive outcomes by using six IOL formulas in paediatric cataract cases. DESIGN Retrospective case series. PARTICIPANTS A total of 377 eyes in 377 paediatric patients (<13 years of age) who received primary IOL implants in the capsular bag. METHODS This study utilized formulas, namely, SRK II, SRK/T, Hoffer Q, Holladay 1, T2 and Super formula. Prediction errors were calculated based on the difference between the postoperative refraction and the refraction predicted by each formula. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES The mean prediction error, mean absolute error, median absolute error, percentages of eyes within the prediction errors of ±0.50 D, ±1.00 D and ± 2.00 D. RESULTS The mean axial length was 22.48 ± 1.91 mm (<22.0 mm for 161 eyes). The average age at surgery was 55.21 ± 28.01 months (<24 months for 37 eyes). The mean prediction error was positive (hyperopic error) with all formulas. Compared to the other IOL power formulas, SRK II showed significantly higher absolute errors (P < .001). Hoffer Q and Holladay 1 generated the least absolute error, followed closely by Super formula. Multiple logistic analyses indicated that age at time of surgery was an independent factor significantly contributing to the refractive surprise using all formulas. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE SRK II was the least predictable formula in this study. HofferQ and Holladay 1 yielded the best predictive values.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The precision of refractive outcomes after uneventful cataract surgery largely depends on the biometry and intraocular lens (IOL) formula used for selecting the IOL. To improve the accuracy of post-op refractive outcomes, several new IOL power calculation formulae have come up. This review would aim to summarise the differences among the new formulae in their performance among normal and variable ocular biometry conditions like short and long axial lengths. METHODS A literature review was performed by searching the PubMed and Cochrane databases from 2016 to 2021, identified 483 articles, of which 51 were included in the review. RESULTS We identified 15 new IOL formulas (including updates on older formulas) of which, only 8 newer formulas (BUII, Hill-RBF 2.0, Kane, Pearl DGS, LSF AI, Naesar 2, EVO 2.0 and VRF) met the eligibility criteria. They were compared according to the reported median absolute error, mean absolute error and percentage of eyes within 0.5D. CONCLUSION The Kane formula and Barrett Universal-II formula performed better than other formulas over the entire axial length (AL) spectrum. In the long eye (AL > 26.0 mm) sub-group, the Kane formula was the most accurate, while in the short eye (AL < 22.0 mm) sub-group, both Kane and EVO 2.0 formulas fared better than other formulas.

Abstract
Objective To systematically compare and rank the accuracy of AI-based intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation formulas and traditional IOL formulas in highly myopic eyes. Methods We screened PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases for studies published from inception to April 2023. The following outcome data were collected: mean absolute error (MAE), percentage of eyes with a refractive prediction error (PE) within ±0.25, ±0.50, and ±1.00 diopters (D), and median absolute error (MedAE). The network meta-analysis was conducted by R 4.3.0 and STATA 17.0. Results Twelve studies involving 2,430 adult myopic eyes (with axial lengths >26.0 mm) that underwent uncomplicated cataract surgery with mono-focal IOL implantation were included. The network meta-analysis of 21 formulas showed that the top three AI-based formulas, as per the surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) values, were XGBoost, Hill-RBF, and Kane. The three formulas had the lowest MedAE and were more accurate than traditional vergence formulas, such as SRK/T, Holladay 1, Holladay 2, Haigis, and Hoffer Q regarding MAE, percentage of eyes with PE within ±0.25, ±0.50, and ±1.00 D. Conclusions The top AI-based formulas for calculating IOL power in highly myopic eyes were XGBoost, Hill-RBF, and Kane. They were significantly more accurate than traditional vergence formulas and ranked better than formulas with Wang-Koch AL modifications or newer generations of formulas such as Barrett and Olsen. Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the influence of lens thickness (LT) on accuracy of Kane, Hill-RBF 3.0 Barrett Universal II (BUII), Emmetropia Verifying Optical (EVO), and Pearl-DGS formulas in eyes with different axial lengths (AL). METHODS The prospective cohort study was conducted at Eye and ENT Hospital of Fudan University. Patients who had uneventful cataract surgery between March 2021 and July 2023 were recruited. Manifest refraction was conducted two-month post-surgery. Eyes were divided into 4 groups based on AL: short (<22mm), medium (22-24.5 mm), medium long (24.5-26mm) and very long (≥26mm). In each AL group, eyes were then divided into 3 subgroups based on the LT measured with IOLmaster700: thin (<4.5 mm), medium (4.5-5.0 mm), and thick (≥ 5 mm). The influence of LT on accuracy of Kane, Hill-RBF 3.0, BUII, EVO, and Pearl-DGS formulas were investigated in each AL group. RESULTS A total of 327 eyes from 327 patients were analyzed, with 64, 102, 73 and 88 eyes in each AL group, respectively. In eyes with AL < 24.5 mm, myopic PE was significantly associated with greater LT using all the 5 formulas (all p < 0.05). Backward stepwise multivariate regression analyses revealed that LT was an important influencing factor for PE in all 5 formulas, particularly in eyes with AL <24.5 mm. In eyes with AL <24.5 mm and LT > 5.0 mm, PE of all 5 formulas calculated with the optional parameter LT were more myopic than those calculated without LT. CONCLUSIONS Thicker LT was associated with more myopic PE among eyes with AL <24.5 mm when using all 5 formulas. Further optimization of current formulas is necessary, especially for eyes with short AL and thick LT.

Abstract
Through a case study of Zhao Xianke's One Principle through Medicine (Yiguan ) (1617?) and Xu Dachun's (1693-1771) denouncements of this text, my article zooms in on divergent discourses on the safety and efficacy of medicinal substances and compounds in late imperial China. Although Xu Dachun's fierce attacks on the popular 'warming and replenishing' (wenbu ) therapies can be situated in an epistemic shift from the cosmology of 'Song learning' (songxue ) towards the philology of 'Han learning' (hanxue ) and 'evidential research' (kaozheng ), I argue that more complex issues were at stake as well. Changed political, social, ethical, and economic realities shaped new and multifaceted perceptions of the nature of medicine, the medical profession, and the usage of medicinals in the aftermath of the Ming to Qing transition.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Head hair is a symbol of vitality, and hair loss by alopecia areata (AA) presents a burden on patients. Although traditional Japanese Kampo medicine (JKM) formulas, acupuncture, and moxibustion have historically been used for treating AA, no studies have utilized a combination of these modalities. PATIENT CONCERNS A 34-year-old male with a history of childhood asthma presented with a sudden hair loss at the top of his head without any preceding symptoms. Except for a hairless patch of 5 cm × 6 cm, his general appearance was otherwise good. The patient underwent topical immunotherapy on visiting a dermatologist. However, the patient noticed an exacerbation of his hairless lesion. DIAGNOSIS The AA diagnosis was established based on clinical appearance and dermatological findings. The Severity of Alopecia Tool (SALT) score for alopecia was 19% at diagnosis. INTERVENTIONS The patient received 2 JKM formulas (saikokaryukotsuboreito and shichimotsukokato) in combination with acupuncture. When relapse occurred, a novel self-administration of pine-needle acupuncture was initiated in combination with the JKM formulas. OUTCOMES A 50% recovery from the baseline SALT score was achieved using JKM formulas in combination with acupuncture for 4 months. The patient achieved complete remission for 5 months. However, another stressful event induced an AA relapse with multiple lesions harboring a SALT score of 13%. Pine-needle acupuncture was initiated, resulting in faster resolution than the first treatment. Recoveries of 50% and 75% were achieved 3 and 4 months after relapse, respectively, and a long-lasting response without relapse was obtained for at least 3 years. CONCLUSION A combination of multimodal traditional therapies, including JKM formulas, acupuncture, and self-administered pine-needle stimulation, represents an effective integrative treatment for patients with AA.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to develop new formulas for the expected fetal lung area-to-head circumference ratio in normal singleton pregnancies between 20 and 40 weeks' gestation. METHODS The lung-to-head ratio and complete fetal biometric parameters of 126 fetuses between 20 and 40 weeks' gestation were prospectively measured. The lung-to-head ratio was measured by 3 different methods (longest diameter, anteroposterior diameter, and tracing). Formulas for predicting right and left lung-to-head ratios with regard to gestational age and biometric parameters were derived by stepwise regression analysis. RESULTS New formulas for calculating right and left lung-to-head ratios by each measurement method were derived. The formulas included gestational age only and no biometric parameters. CONCLUSIONS The new formulas for estimating the expected lung-to-head ratio by the 3 different methods in normal singleton pregnancies up to 40 weeks' gestation may help improve the prognostic power of observed-to-expected lung-to-head ratio assessment in fetuses with congenital diaphragmatic hernias.

Abstract
The use of enteral nutrition (EN) continues to increase given benefits. However, with this increase in use, it is also becoming evident that enteral feeding intolerance (EFI) is also quite prevalent, leading to the inability to meet nutrition needs in many patients. Given the wide variability in the EN population as well as the number of formulas available, there is not a clear consensus regarding the best approach to EFI management. One approach that is emerging to improve EN tolerance is the use of peptide-based formulas (PBFs). PBFs refer to enteral formulas containing proteins that have been enzymatically hydrolyzed to dipeptides and tripeptides. These hydrolyzed proteins are often combined with higher medium-chain triglyceride content to generate an enteral formula that is essentially easier to absorb and utilize. Emerging data demonstrate that the use of PBF in patients with EFI may improve clinical outcomes along with a corresponding reduction in healthcare utilization and potentially the cost of care. This review aims to navigate through key clinical applications and benefits of PBF and to discuss relevant data shared in the literature.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of various formulas and the ability of breastfeeding with the exclusion of cow milk protein to reduce the Scoring Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) index and promote growth in infants with cow milk protein allergy. METHODS We conducted a systematic search of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), ClinicalTrials.gov, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, WanFang Data, Weipu, and the China Biomedical Literature Database. The search period ranged from the inception of each database to December 2023 (with an update until January 15, 2025). We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing formulas and breastfeeding for cow's milk protein allergy in infants. Two independent reviewers extracted data via standardized methods and assessed the risk of bias via the revised Cochrane risk-of-bias 2.0 tool. We performed a network meta-analysis (NMA) via a Bayesian fixed-effects model in RStudio and assessed the certainty of the evidence via the Confidence in Network Meta-Analysis (CINeMA) online application. The protocol for this NMA was preregistered in PROSPERO (No. CRD42024504707). RESULTS This analysis included 23 RCTs involving 1997 children and assessed 12 interventions. Compared with the regular formula, the pectin-thickened amino acid formula (TAAF) might reduce the SCORAD index (-12.49, 95% confidence interval [CI] -20.38 to -4.48, low certainty). At ≤6 months of follow-up, compared with rice-hydrolyzed formula (RHF), breastfeeding might improve the length-for-age Z score (LAZ) (0.47, 95% CI 0.13-0.81, moderate certainty), and breastfeeding (0.39, 95% CI 0.02-0.77, low certainty) and extensively hydrolyzed formula (EHF) with probiotics (0.38, 95% CI 0.00-0.77, low certainty) might respectively improve the weight-for-age Z score (WAZ) and weight-for-length Z score (WLZ). At the 12-month follow-up, EHF might improve the LAZ (0.41, 95% CI 0.11-0.71, low certainty) and WLZ (0.37, 95% CI 0.18-0.56, low certainty) compared with RHF, whereas the amino acid formula (AAF) may improve the WAZ (0.33, 95% CI 0.02-0.63, low certainty). CONCLUSIONS Low-certainty evidence suggested that TAAF might reduce the SCORAD index. Moderate or low certainty evidence indicated that, at ≤6 months of follow-up, breastfeeding might improve the LAZ and WAZ, whereas EHF with probiotics might improve the WLZ. At the 12-month follow-up, EHF might improve the LAZ and WLZ, whereas AAF might improve the WAZ. However, further high-quality studies would be needed to confirm these findings and assess their safety and cost-effectiveness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to investigate the accuracy of the published prediction equations for determining level overground walking energy cost in young adults. METHODS In total, 148 healthy young adults volunteered to participate in this study. Resting metabolic rate and energy expenditure variables at speeds of 4, 5, and 6 km/h were measured by indirect calorimetry, walking energy expenditure was estimated by 3 published equations. RESULTS The gross and net metabolic rate per mile of level overground walking increased with increased speed (all P < .01). Females were less economical than males. The present findings revealed that the American College of Sports Medicine and Pandolf et al equations significantly underestimated the energy cost of overground walking at all speeds (all P < .01) in young adults. The percentage mean bias for American College of Sports Medicine, Pandolf et al, and Weyand et al was 12.4%, 16.8%, 1.4% (4 km/h); 21.6%, 15.8%, 7.1% (5 km/h); and 27.6%, 12%, 6.6% (6 km/h). Bland-Altman plots and prediction error analysis showed that the Weyand et al was the most accurate in 3 existing equations. CONCLUSIONS The Weyand et al equation appears to be the most suitable for the prediction of overground walking energy expenditure in young adults.

Abstract
Predictive equations are widely employed for estimating the volume of oxygen consumption (VO2) while walking, which is ultimately employed to determine energy expenditure and tailor exercise prescription. This study aimed to test the agreement between the measured VO2 and estimated VO2 during a walking protocol on a treadmill at 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, and 6.5 km/h. Thirty-eight young adults (50% women) participated in this cross-sectional study. The Omnical (Maastricht Instruments, Maastricht, The Netherlands) and K5 (Cosmed, Rome, Italy) metabolic systems were used to measure VO2. To determine the predictive equations, a comprehensive literature search was conducted using the MEDLINE database from May 2022 to July 2023. Seven predictive equations were found and included for estimating VO2 values. We calculated the mean bias (mean difference between measured VO2 and estimated VO2) obtained at each speed using one-sample t-tests. We compared the VO2 measured and estimated values using repeated measures analysis of variance and the Bland-Altman method. One-sample t-tests showed that all score errors were different from zero (ranging from 1.1 to 5.4 mL/kg/min). Thus, no predictive equation estimated similar VO2 values in comparison with the Omnical and K5 metabolic systems at all intensities. However, the Weyand equation showed the lowest bias across all intensities (score error of 1.1 mL/kg/min). This study showed a lack of agreement between the Omnical and K5 systems compared to diverse predictive equations specially designed to estimate VO2 during walking. Nevertheless, based on our results, the Weyand equation should be the preferred option.

Abstract
PURPOSE To ascertain the refractive accuracy of 36 intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation formulas in unoperated eyes. DESIGN Retrospective accuracy and validity analysis. PARTICIPANTS Six hundred fifty-five patients undergoing phacoemulsification and implantation of the Tecnis 1 ZCB00 IOL (Johnson & Johnson Vision, Jacksonville, FL, USA). METHODS Thirty-six formulas were evaluated including some that have never been tested, such as 3C 2.0, Eom, Hoffer H, Hoffer H-5, Fam adjusted methods, Norrby Regression Formula (Norrby RF), Norrby thin lens paraxial Ray-Tracing (Norrby RT), and VRF Cooke modified axial length (VRF CMAL). Optical biometry with the IOLMaster 700 (Carl Zeiss Meditec AG) was performed preoperatively. All descriptive statistics and the percentage of eyes within prediction error thresholds were evaluated with optimized lens constants. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES The Formula Performance Index (FPI) and Formula Performance Index for subgroup (FPI sub) were used as the primary formula outcomes. RESULTS The highest FPI indexes were yielded by the VRF-G (0.590), Hoffer QST (0.575), VRF CMAL (0.574), Eom (0.572), EVO 2.0 (0.569), and Kane (0.568) formulas. The heteroscedastic test revealed statistically significant differences (P < 0.05) among formulas. The standard deviation (SD) of VRF-G (0.353 D), EVO 2.0 (0.362 D), Kane (0.366 D), Hoffer QST (0.371 D), and Eom (0.372 D) were lower than other methods (P < 0.05). The highest percentage of eyes with a PE within ±0.50 D was achieved by VRF-G (87.48%), Kane (86.41%), Hoffer QST (86.26%), and PEARL-DGS (86.26%). CONCLUSION Contemporary IOL power calculation formulas (Eom, EVO 2.0, Hoffer QST, VRF CMAL, and VRF-G) improved accuracy in all axial length ranges compared to traditional and updated methods. The CMAL method raised the accuracy of the VRF formula.

Abstract
PURPOSE Our article aims to assess the accuracy of modified and commonly used formulas of intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation after excimer laser corneal refractive surgery. METHODS This is a retrospective study, with data retrieved for 50 eyes of 32 patients who underwent uncomplicated cataract surgery after excimer laser corneal refractive surgery. The expected spherical equivalent was calculated using the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS) IOL power calculator for Shammas and Barrett True-K, using three-fourth generation formulas (Haigis-L, Barrett True-K no history, and Holladay 2), and using three-third generation formulas (SRKT, Holladay 1, and Hoffer Q) with single k, as a reference, and adjusting these formulas by calculating the keratometry readings by two methods (Jarade's index and formula). The mean refractive error and mean absolute refractive error (MARE) were calculated at the 1 postoperative month. RESULTS When all data was available (eight eyes), 13 formulas were compared. Holladay 1 as modified by Jarade's index and formula, and Hoffer Q as modified by Jarade's formula resulted in MARE <0.75D (P < 0.05). In the group of 25 eyes with only ablation available, the formulas with MARE <0.75D were Haigis L, Barrett TK (from ASCRS), Hoffer Q, and the three conventional formulas in Jarade's index (P < 0.001). In the group of 17 eyes with no available prerefractive data, only Haigis-L and Barret TK (no history) had a MARE <0.75 D. CONCLUSION The use of Hoffer Q or Holladay 1, when prerefractive data are available, gives reliable results with Jarade's index.

Abstract
Purpose To compare the accuracy of 16 intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation formulas in pediatric cataract eyes. Patients and Methods The data records of pediatric patients who had been implanted with three IOL models (SA60AT, MA60AC, and enVista-MX60) between 2012 and 2018 were analyzed. The accuracy of 16 IOL power calculation methods was evaluated: Barrett Universal II (BUII), Castrop, EVO 2.0, Haigis, Hill-RBF 3.0, Hoffer Q, Hoffer QST, Holladay 1, Kane, LSF AI, Naeser 2, Pearl-DGS, SRK/T, T2, VRF, and VRF-G. The non-optimized (ULIB/IOLcon) and optimized constants were used for IOL power calculation. The mean prediction error (PE), Performance Index (FPI), and all descriptive statistics were calculated. Results Ninety-seven eyes of 97 pediatric patients aged 13.2 (IQR 11.2-17.1) were included. No statistically significant difference (HS-test) was observed (p > 0.818) except for the Hoffer Q, and Naeser 2 (P = 0.014). With optimized lens constants, the best FPI indices were obtained by Hoffer Q (0.256) and VRF-G (0.251) formulas, followed by Hill-RBF 3.0 and BUII, with an index of 0.248. The highest FPI indices with non-optimized constants showed SRK/T and T2 formulas (0.246 and 0.245, respectively), followed by VRF-G and Holladay 1, with an index of 0.244. The best median absolute error values (MedAE) were achieved by Hoffer Q (0.50 D), VRF-G (0.53 D), and Hill-RBF 3.0 (0.54 D), all P ≥ 0.074. Conclusion Our results place the Hoffer Q, VRF-G, Hill-RBF 3.0, and BUII formulas as more accurate predictors of postoperative refraction in pediatric cataract surgery.

Abstract
Purpose To collate the accuracy of two recently introduced intraocular lens (IOL) formulas (VRF and VRF-G) in cataract patients using a swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) biometry (IOL Master 700, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Jena, Germany). Patients and Methods Data records of 295 eyes from 295 patients were included in this scrutiny. The IOLMaster 700 SS-OCT biometer was used for biometric measurements. The VRF and VRF-G formulas were compared with seven 3rd and 4th generation thin and thick-lens formulas: Haigis, Hoffer Q, Holladay 1, Holladay 2, SRK/T, T2, and Barrett Universal II. With optimized lens constants, the mean prediction error (PE) and its standard deviation (SD), the median absolute error (MedAE), the mean absolute error (MAE), and the percentage of eyes with PEs within ±0.25 D, ±0.50 D, ±0.75 D, ±1.00 D, and <±2.00 D were analyzed. Results Statistically significant differences were found between formulas in the whole group (Friedman test, P = 0.000). The VRF-G and Haigis formulas showed the lowest SD values (0.464 D and 0.466 D respectively). The VRF and Barrett Universal II formulas were less predictable (SD 0.471 D and SD 0.474 D respectively). The biggest proportion of eyes within ±0.50 D was found with VRF-G (76.27%), Haigis (75.59%), VRF (74.92%), and Barrett Universal II (74.92%) formulas. Conclusion Based on data achieved from the SS-OCT biometry, the VRF-G and Haigis methods were the more precise predictors of postoperative refraction with the biggest proportion of eyes within ±0.50 D.

Abstract
The authentication of ingredients in formulas is crucial yet challenging, particularly for constituents with comparable compositions but vastly divergent efficacy. Rehmanniae Radix and its derivatives are extensively utilized in food supplements, which contain analogous compositions but very distinct effects. Rehmanniae Radix, also a difficult-to-detect herbal ingredient, was chosen as a case to explore a novel HPTLC-QDa MS technique for the identification of herbal ingredients in commercial products. Through systematic condition optimization, including thin layer and mass spectrometry, a stable and reproducible HPTLC-QDa MS method was established, which can simultaneously detect oligosaccharides and iridoids. Rehmannia Radix and its processed products were then analyzed to screen five markers that could distinguish between raw and prepared Rehmannia Radix. An HPTLC-QDa-SIM method was further established for formula detection by using the five markers and validated using homemade prescriptions and negative controls. Finally, this method was applied to detect raw and prepared Rehmannia Radix in 12 commercial functional products and supplements.
