Living on the Edge: Paradoxical Experiences With Ethics

Paradox is living phenomenon that provides insights into straight thinking and diverse human experiences important to the discipline of nursing from a nursing philosophical theory-based approach. Here, the author delves into the metaphorical experience of living on the edge and the paradoxical concepts that assist the discipline in its thinking about artificial intelligence. Possible ethical implications of utilizing artificial intelligence from a humanbecoming ethos of understanding are discussed. The metaphorical implications for future disciplinary priorities are presented.

Living on the edge: a parse method study

Living on the edge was explored employing the Parse research method. Ten participants living in the frontier of the American West were asked, "What is the experience of living on the edge?" The findings showed the structure of living on the edge as: Living on the edge is persevering with pioneering ventures amid perilous remoteness, as vacillating sentiments arise with diverse affiliations. Understanding the experience of living on the edge as it relates to health and quality of life is important for nursing practice and advances nursing science.

Living on the edge: a review of the literature

A comprehensive review of the literature of the universal experience of living on the edge is discussed. Literature was reviewed from biology, criminology, ecology, economics, ethics, finance, fine arts, historical biography, medicine, nursing, philosophy, physiology, psychology, sociology, and theology. Three themes emerged with this literature review: living on the edge as a sacred place one travels to or where one lives, living on the edge as a choice in taking risks and surviving danger, and living on the edge as engaging with health experiences in which persons and nurses coparticipate. Living on the edge is a visionary quest into a new frontier that holds illimitable possibilities that transform the world. The literature is discussed according to theoretical and research findings.
