Hedyocoronins A and B: two new oleanane saponins from the aerial parts of Hedyotis coronaria

Two new oleanane saponins, hedyocoronin A (1) and hedyocoronin B (2), were isolated from the aerial parts of Hedyotis coronaria (Kurz) Craib, Rubiaceae, collected at Da Oai district, Lam Dong province in Vietnam. Their chemical structures were elucidated by HR-MS, 1D and 2D-NMR spectra, along with the comparison with those reported in the literature. Compounds 1 and 2 showed weak cytotoxicity against KB and HeLa-S3 cancer cell lines with IC₅₀ values of more than 54 µM.

Oleanane-type triterpene saponins from Aralia armata leaves and their cytotoxic activity

Two new, aramatosides A and B (1 and 2), together with seven known oleanane-type triterpene saponins (3-9) were isolated from the leaves of Aralia armata. Their structures were determined by combination of HR-ESI-MS, 1 D and 2 D NMR spectral data as well as comparison with the previous literature. Compounds 6-9 exhibited cytotoxic effects towards three human cancer cell lines (HT29, A2058, and A549) with IC₅₀ values ranging from 2.01 ± 0.17 to 18.8 ± 1.17 µM. Especially, compound 7 (narcissiflorin) showed significant cytotoxic activity against HT29 and A549 cell lines with IC₅₀ values of 2.02 ± 1.65 and 2.01 ± 0.17 µM, respectively, which are smaller than those of positive control irinotecan hydrochloride (IC₅₀ values of 10.3 ± 1.32 and 9.89 ± 0.19 µM).

Anti-Proliferative Effect of Triterpenoidal Glycosides from the Roots of Anemone vitifolia through a Pro-Apoptotic Way

A cytotoxicity-guided phytochemical investigation of Anemone vitifolia roots led to the isolation of six oleanane saponins (1-6), which were reported from the species for the first time. Their structures were determined by comparing its MS and NMR data with those in literature. Compounds 1-4 showed significant inhibitory effects on the proliferation of hepatocellular carcinoma HepG2 cells with IC₅₀ values ranging from 2.0 to 8.5 μM, compared to positive control methotrexate with IC₅₀ value of 15.8 μM. Flow cytometry analysis revealed that compounds 1-4 exerted anti-proliferative effects through a pro-apoptotic way of hepatocellular carcinoma cells.
