Uptake, Translocation, and Subcellular Distribution of Oxathiapiprolin and Famoxadone in Tomato Plants (Lycopersicon esculentum Miller)

The uptake, translocation, and subcellular distribution of oxathiapiprolin and famoxadone in tomato plants were investigated using hydroponic experiments. Oxathiapiprolin and famoxadone mainly accumulated in the tomato roots with limited translocation capacity from the roots to the upper part. The root absorption and inhibitor results noted the dominance of the apoplastic and symplastic pathways in the oxathiapiprolin and famoxadone uptake by the tomato roots, respectively. Furthermore, the uptake process for the two fungicides followed passive and aquaporin-dependent transport. Insoluble cell components (cell organelles and walls) were the dominant storage compartments for oxathiapiprolin and famoxadone. In the protoplast, oxathiapiprolin in the soluble fraction had a higher proportion than that of famoxadone. Finally, the uptake and distribution of the two fungicides by the tomato plants was accurately predicted using a partition-limited model. Thus, this study provides an in-depth understanding of the transfer of oxathiapiprolin and famoxadone from the environment to tomato plants.

[Concentration-dependent Accumulation and Translocation of PFASs by Wetland Plant Alisma orientale]

This study investigated the concentration-dependent accumulation and translocation of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) by wetland plant Alisma orientale. The concentrations of PFASs in nutrient solution were 0, 5, 10, 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1000 μg·L^-1. The electrolytic leakage of roots, Cu concentration in roots and stems, and Ca concentration in stems and leaves decreased with an increase in PFASs concentration in external solution, while the plants were growing well. The removal mass of PFASs by plants increased (0.87-116.50 μg) with an increase in PFASs concentration, while the removal efficiency decreased (20.1%-2.9%). The PFASs concentration in plant roots, stems, and leaves increased linearly with that in nutrient solution, and fitted the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and Michaelis-Menten equation well, which indicated PFASs were uptaken through passive diffusion. The root concentration factor, stem concentration factor, transpiration stream concentration factor, and partition limited quasi-equilibrium factor α_pt decreased with that of PFASs in nutrient solution, probably due to the increase in the volume of transpiration water and the longer time to reach equilibrium.

Uptake, Translocation, and Subcellular Distribution of Azoxystrobin in Wheat Plant ( Triticum aestivum L.)

The uptake mechanism, translocation, and subcellular distribution of azoxystrobin (5 mg kg^-1) in wheat plants was investigated under laboratory conditions. The wheat-water system reached equilibrium after 96 h. Azoxystrobin concentrations in roots were much higher than those in stems and leaves under different exposure times. Azoxystrobin uptake by roots was highly linear at different exposure concentrations, while the bioconcentration factors and translocation factors were independent of the exposed concentration at the equilibrium state. Dead roots adsorbed a larger amount of azoxystrobin than fresh roots, which was measured at different concentrations. Azoxystrobin preferentially accumulated in organelles, and the highest distribution proportion was detected in the soluble cell fractions. This study elucidated that the passive transport and apoplastic pathway dominated the uptake of azoxystrobin by wheat roots. Azoxystrobin primarily accumulated in roots and could be acropetally translocated, but its translocation capacity from roots to stems was limited. Additionally, the uptake and distribution of azoxystrobin by wheat plants could be predicted well by a partition-limited model.
