Abstract
Although vitamin D insufficiency has been correlated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), there are few data on the association between 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) and atherogenic indices predictive of CVD. This study investigated the relationship of vitamin D status with lipid profile and atherogenic indices in adult women in Morocco. Three hundred women aged 18 to 50 years from Meknes were included. Fasting 25(OH)D and lipid concentrations were assayed by a one-step electrochemiluminescence-based immunoassay and an enzymatic method, respectively. Atherogenic indices (atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), atherogenic coefficient (AC), non-HDL cholesterol (non-HDL-C), Castelli risk indices I and II (CRI-I and II), and CHOLIndex (CI)) were calculated using conventional lipid parameters. Logistic regression models and operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis were used to assess the relationship of the variables and estimate the threshold of 25(OH)D levels associated with high atherogenic indices. 25(OH) D below 20 ng/mL was significantly associated with an enhanced risk of hypertriglyceridemia and elevated values of AIP, AC, non-HDL-C, and CRI-I with an OR (95% CI) of 4.904 (1.856-12.959), 3.637 (2.149-6.158), 3.589 (1.673-7.700), 2.074 (1.215-3.540), and 2.481 (1.481-4.123), respectively. According to the ROC analysis, the likelihood of hypertriglyceridemia and high values of AIP, AC, non-HDL-C, and CRI-I were associated with 25(OH)D thresholds ≤15.15 ng/mL, ≤17.5 ng/mL, ≤19.8 ng/mL, ≤20.1 ng/mL, and ≤19.5 ng/mL, respectively, all p < 0.01. Based on the atherogenic indices, this study indicates that vitamin D below 20 ng/mL may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease in adult women. Additional health measures are essential to raise awareness among women and health professionals of preventing and controlling cardiovascular risk factors, particularly among young individuals.

Abstract
Background Monitoring noncommunicable diseases is regarded as a critical concern that has to be managed in order to avoid a wide variety of complications such as increasing blood lipid levels known as dyslipidemia. Statin drugs, mostly, Rosuvastatin (RSV) was investigated for its effectiveness in treating dyslipidemia. However, reaching the most efficient treatment is essential and improving the effect of RSV is crucial. Therefore, a combination therapy was a good approach for achieving significant benefit. Although RSV is hydrophobic, which would affect its absorption and bioavailability following oral administration, overcoming this obstacle was important. Purpose To that end, the purpose of the present investigation was to incorporate RSV into certain lipid-based nanocarriers, namely, nanostructured lipid carrier (NLC) prepared with virgin coconut oil (CCO). Methods The optimized RSV-NLC formula was selected, characterized and examined for its in vitro, kinetic, and stability profiles. Eventually, the formula was investigated for its in vivo hypolipidemic action. Results The optimized NLC formulation showed a suitable particle size (279.3±5.03 nm) with PDI 0.237 and displayed good entrapment efficiency (75.6±1.9%). Regarding in vitro release, it was efficiently prolonged for 24 h providing 93.7±1.47%. The optimized formula was established to be stable after 3 months storage at two different conditions; 4°C and 25°C. Importantly, including CCO in the development of RSV-NLC could impressively enhance lowering total cholesterol level in obese rat models, which endorse the potential synergistic action between RSV and CCO. Conclusion The study could elucidate the impact of developing NLC using CCO for improving RSV anti-hyperlipidemic activity.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) pose a significant global health challenge and affect diverse populations. For conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, and stroke prevalence, understanding the multifaceted factors contributing to CVDs is crucial. Hypertension and dyslipidemia, which are established risk factors, require further exploration, particularly in terms of their individual impact on cardiac function. This study aims to uncover associations, elucidate nuanced interplay, and provide insights for personalized interventions. METHODS A cross-sectional analysis, conducted at a Tehran Teaching Hospital, focused on adults admitted for suspected heart disease. The dataset included demographic information, clinical history, medications, and echocardiographic data. Statistical analysis was performed using Pearson's correlation with IBM SPSS Statistics software. RESULTS In this analysis of 95 individuals suspected of heart disease, aged 51 years on average, diverse blood pressure patterns with significant percentages across various hypertension stages were observed. Lipid profile analysis revealed typical lipid levels. Correlations between blood pressure, lipid parameters, and cardiac function indicated significant associations, including a negative correlation between ejection fraction and blood pressure and significant correlations between lipid profiles and adverse cardiac volume changes. Disparities in the prevalence of obesity and diabetes have highlighted potential links to hypertension. CONCLUSIONS This study sheds light on crucial clinical aspects of individuals with suspected heart disease, revealing patterns of obesity, varied blood pressure categories, and nuanced lipid profiles. The correlations between blood pressure, lipid parameters, and cardiac function highlight potential connections, emphasizing the importance of tailored interventions for improved cardiovascular outcomes.

Abstract
Hypercholesterolemia is one of the most important risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. However, it is mostly associated with vascular dysfunction and atherosclerotic lesions, while evidence of direct effects of hypercholesterolemia on cardiomyocytes and heart function is still incomplete and controversial. In this study, we assessed the direct effects of hypercholesterolemia on heart function and the electro-contractile properties of isolated cardiomyocytes. After 5 weeks, male Swiss mice fed with AIN-93 diet added with 1.25% cholesterol (CHO), developed an increase in total serum cholesterol levels and cardiomyocytes cholesterol content. These changes led to altered electrocardiographic records, with a shortening of the QT interval. Isolated cardiomyocytes displayed a shortening of the action potential duration with increased rate of depolarization, which was explained by increased IK, reduced ICa.L and altered INa voltage-dependent inactivation. Also, reduced diastolic [Ca2+]i was found with preserved adrenergic response and cellular contraction function. However, contraction of isolated hearts is impaired in isolated CHO hearts, before and after ischemia/reperfusion, although CHO heart was less susceptible to arrhythmic contractions. Overall, our results demonstrate that early hypercholesterolemia-driven increase in cellular cholesterol content is associated with direct modulation of the heart and cardiomyocytes' excitability, Ca2+ handling, and contraction.

Abstract
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is more prevalent in individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD) compared to the general population. While a potential inverse correlation between lipid levels and AF has been proposed, it remains unclear if this relationship applies to CKD patients. This study examined the connection between the ratio of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C/HDL-C) and the likelihood of AF in CKD patients. Data was gathered from 21,091 consecutive CKD patients between 2006 and December 31, 2015. We examined the link between the LDL-C/HDL-C ratio and AF in CKD patients through binary logistic regression, as well as various sensitivity and subgroup analyses. The dataset that backs up these analyses is available at: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0230189 . Of the 21,091 CKD patients, 211 (1.00%) were diagnosed with AF. The cohort, predominantly male (79.93%), had a mean age of 60.89 ± 10.05 years. The mean LDL-C/HDL-C ratio was 1.39 ± 0.35. After adjusting for covariates, a significant inverse association was observed between the LDL-C/HDL-C ratio and the incidence of AF in CKD patients (OR = 0.422, 95% CI 0.273-0.652, P = 0.00010). The robustness of these findings was confirmed through sensitivity analysis. Subgroup analysis revealed a strong correlation between the LDL-C/HDL-C ratio and incident AF in patients without hypertension (HR = 0.26, 95% CI 0.15-0.45). Conversely, this association was absent in hypertensive patients (HR = 1.09, 95% CI 0.54-2.17). Our research shows an independent inverse correlation between the LDL-C/HDL-C ratio and the risk of AF in CKD patients. It is advised to refrain from excessively aggressive reduction of LDL levels in CKD patients, as this could elevate the risk of developing AF.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Despite strong and consistent epidemiological evidence linking cigarette smoking to several cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), the association between smoking intensity and CVD risk factors remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the possible effects of cigarette smoking on cardiometabolic risk in healthy individuals. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted between November 2022 and June 2023. Consecutive sampling was performed to include 160 healthy participants: 100 smokers with 60 males and 40 females; and 60 age- and sex-matched non-smokers with 36 males and 24 females. Blood samples were taken from each participant to assess their cardiometabolic function: lipid profile, von Willebrand factor (vWF), high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs-cTnI), and fibrinogen levels; and liver function using an automated enzymatic method. In addition, blood sugar level, body mass index (BMI), and blood pressure were recorded. RESULTS Smokers had significantly higher vWF functional activity and hs-cTnI but significantly lower albumin and total bilirubin levels than non-smokers (65.87 ± 19.07 vs 56.45 ± 6.59, respectively, p<0.001; 0.0382 ± 0.0077 vs 0.0147 ± 0.0105, respectively, p<0.001; and 4.63 ± 0.32 vs 4.74 ± 0.28, respectively, p=0.026). The number of cigarettes consumed daily was associated positively and significantly with plasma levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, vWF functional activity, and hs-cTnI but were negatively associated with total bilirubin. Moreover, heavy smokers had a significantly higher BMI and waist-to-hip ratio among male smokers than non-smokers. CONCLUSIONS Cigarette smoking was associated with increased dyslipidemia, BMI, and central obesity, in addition to higher vWF functional activity. Altogether, increased hs-cTnI levels in smokers indicate a higher susceptibility to CVD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dyslipidemia is an imbalance of lipid profiles. It increases the chance of clogged arteries and may cause heart attacks, strokes, and other circulatory disorders. Dyslipidemia affects the general population, but its severity is higher in diabetic populations. As a result, the chance of dyslipidemia-associated morbidity and mortality is highest in diabetic patients. In Ethiopia, around 2 to 6.5% of the population live with diabetes, but their lipid profiles are inconsistent across the studies. Therefore, this study aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence of diabetic dyslipidemia and its predictors among people with diabetes in Ethiopia. METHOD A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted. The searches were carried out in MEDLINE via PubMed and OVID, EBSCO, Embase, and other supplementary gateways such as Google and Google Scholar, for articles published up to June 2023. The articles were searched and screened by title (ti), abstract (ab), and full text (ft). The quality of the eligible studies was assessed by the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. The heterogeneity was detected by the Cochrane Q statistic test and the I-squared (I2) test. Then subgroup analysis and meta-regression analysis were used to identify the source of the variations. A random or fixed-effect meta-analysis model was used to estimate the overall pooled prevalence and average effects. The publication bias was assessed by the funnel plot asymmetry test and/or Begg and Mazumdar's test for rank correlation (p-value < 0.05). The protocol has been registered in an international database, the prospective register of systematic reviews (PROSPERO), with reference number CRD42023441572. RESULT A total of 14 articles with 3662 participants were included in this review. The pooled prevalence of diabetic dyslipidemia in Ethiopia was found to be 65.7% (95% confidence interval (CI): 57.5, 73.9), I2 = 97%, and p-value < 0.001. The overall prevalence of triglycerides (TG) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) were found to be 51.8% (95% CI: 45.1, 58.6) and 44.2% (95% CI: 32.8, 55.7), respectively, among lipid profiles. In meta-regression analysis, the sample size (p value = 0.01) is the covariate for the variation of the included studies. Being female (adjusted odds ratio (AOR): 3.9, 95% CI: 1.5, 10.1), physical inactivity (AOR: 2.6, 95% CI: 1.5, 4.3), and uncontrolled blood glucose (AOR: 4.2, 95% CI: 1.9, 9.4) were found to be the determinants of dyslipidemia among diabetic patients. CONCLUSION This review revealed that the prevalence of diabetic dyslipidemia is high among people with diabetes in Ethiopia. Being female, having physical inactivity, and having uncontrolled blood glucose were found to be predictors of dyslipidemia among people with diabetes. Therefore, regular screening of lipid profiles and the provision of lipid-lowering agents should be strengthened to reduce life-threatening cardiovascular complications. Furthermore, interventions based on lifestyle modifications, such as regular physical activity and adequate blood glucose control, need to be encouraged.

Abstract
Background Recent evidence has linked changes in plasma lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) and paraoxonase-1 (PON-1) levels with increased risk for development of premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in different populations. However, studies on this in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa are scarce. Objective This study assessed the association between reduced plasma LCAT and PON-1 levels and an increased risk of ASCVD, and their potential as biomarkers for ASCVD. Methods Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease patients and healthy controls were randomly selected for this cross-sectional case-control study from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria, between March 2022 and March 2023. Plasma LCAT and PON-1 were determined by sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, while the lipid profile was measured by spectrophotometry. Results A total of 153 ASCVD patients (mean age: 52.92 ± 10.24 years) and 50 healthy controls (mean age: 46.96 ± 11.05 years) were included in the analyses. Stastistically significant increases were observed in the mean body weight, hip circumference, waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, body mass index, diastolic and systolic blood pressure (all p ≤ 0.001), and pulse rate (p = 0.003) compared to the control values. Statistically significant increases were also observed in the mean plasma total cholesterol, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (all p ≤ 0.001). In contrast, the mean plasma high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, LCAT, and PON-1 (p ≤ 0.001) were notably reduced compared to the control values. Conclusion The present study provides supportive evidence that changes in plasma LCAT and PON-1 could predispose individuals to risk of premature ASCVD. What this study adds Plasma LCAT and PON-1 may serve as independent markers or complement other established cardiovascular disease markers to discriminate the risk of ASCVD when it is unclear.

Abstract
Background Although evidence-based guidelines and effective treatments exist for dyslipidemia, a significant disparity remains between guidelines and clinical practice. In this study, we investigated adherence to statin therapy per the 2018 ACC/AHA Guideline recommendations. Methods This is a retrospective, descriptive-analytical study involving 1,224 individuals who presented to the laboratories located in Birjand, Eastern Iran, from June 2022 to March 2023. Analyses were conducted on 700 patients. Data collection utilized a checklist and serum value measurements of laboratory factors deemed necessary for the study. Results Treatment was administered per the guidelines for 348 out of the 700 patients (49.7%). With 60.7%, the diabetes group exhibited the highest level of adherence to guidelines. In the atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) group, 31.7% followed the recommendations. The lowest adherence rates were in groups with a 10-year ASCVD risk score of ≥20% and severe hypercholesterolemia, respectively (0% and 2.8%). In our study, atorvastatin was the most frequently prescribed statin, with the majority of patients consuming a moderate-intensity statin. None of the severely hypercholesterolemic patients achieved the LDL goal. Moreover, LDL-C goal achievement was low among the ASCVD group and those with an ASCVD risk score of ≥20%. Conclusion Patients with hypercholesterolemia adhere inadequately to the AHA Guideline. Consequently, training courses are needed to inform medical doctors, particularly general practitioners, of the latest dyslipidemia treatment recommendations as the AHA advises.

Abstract
Non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality, occurring when the heart's need for oxygen cannot be met. It is defined by elevated cardiac biomarkers without ST-segment elevation and often carries a poorer prognosis than most ST-segment elevation events. NSTEMI usually results from severe coronary artery narrowing, transient occlusion, or microembolization of thrombus/atheromatous material. Patients with NSTEMI often have multiple comorbidities, which can worsen their prognosis and complicate treatment. This study aims to investigate the impact of comorbidities such as hypertension (HTN), diabetes mellitus (DM), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), obesity, dyslipidemia, and smoking on patients with NSTEMI. The prevalence of each comorbidity is examined individually within the NSTEMI population to provide a clearer picture of how frequently these conditions co-occur with NSTEMI and how they affect the established NSTEMI treatment protocols. This paper sheds light on the interaction between NSTEMI and commonly associated comorbidities through a comprehensive literature review and data analysis. This is critical for optimizing clinical decision-making and enhancing patient care, ultimately improving outcomes in this high-risk patient population.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Obesity is associated with concomitant chronic conditions. An early metabolic consequence of obesity is disruption of glucose and insulin homeostasis. One of the consequences is impaired fasting glucose (IFG). Visceral fat is metabolically more harmful than subcutaneous fat, but few information is available regarding the association between the risk of abnormal glucose in increased waist circumference. METHODS This study is based on a cross sectional of 1,381 population-based from Palembang, Indonesia. The eligibility requirements subject were to be older than 18 and consent to taking fasting glucose and lipid profile tests as well as physical exams measuring their body weight, height, blood pressure, abdominal circumference, and waist circumference. RESULTS The number of subjects consisting of 798 noncentral obesity with normoglycemia, 376 central obesity with normoglycemia, and 207 central obesity with concomitant IFG. The prevalence central obesity with concomitant IFG was 35.51%. In subjects with central obesity, there were significant differences in proportions based on sex, age, marital status, education, and occupation. In multivariate analysis show that the risk factors that contribute to having a significant association with central obesity with concomitant IFG are sex (female), age (>40 years), blood pressure (hypertension), and HDL-C <50 mg/dL (p<0.001). The analysis also founded that there was a significant difference in the dietary pattern of sweet foods (p = 0.018), sweet drinks (p = 0.002), soft drinks (p = 0.001) and smoking habit (p<0.001) between subjects with obesity central and concomitant IFG compared to subjects with noncentral obesity. The majority of subjects with obesity central and concomitant IFG had consuming these risky foods >6 times/week. CONCLUSION The prevalence of central obesity with IFG is quite high. There are significant differences in the characteristics, lipid profile, blood pressure, dietary pattern, and smoking habit of central obesity with concomitant IFG was confirmed in this population-based observational study.

Abstract
Jingzhi Guanxin Oral Liquids (JZGX), a traditional Chinese medicine formulation prepared from the decoction of five herbs, has been utilized to relieve chest pain with coronary artery disease (CAD). However, the chemical composition and therapeutic mechanisms of JZGX remain obscured. In this research, the potential targets and pathways of JZGX against CAD were anticipated through network pharmacology based on analyzing its chemical constituents using UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS. One hundred seven ingredients in JZGX were identified. The 39 active chemicals and 37 key targets were screened, and CAD-related signaling pathways were clustered, mainly associated with lipid metabolism. Subsequently, the atherosclerotic CAD animal model employing 24 weeks of high-fat diet (HFD) ApoE-/- mice was constructed to investigate the JZGX efficacy and underlying mechanisms validating network forecasts. The histological staining examination and cardiovascular biomarker tests confirmed that JZGX reduced plaque formation in the aorta and decreased blood lipids in vivo. It featured anti-inflammatory, anti-thrombotic, and myocardial protective effects. JZGX prevented excessive lipid deposits and inflammation within the liver and exhibited hepatoprotective properties. Serum untargeted metabolomics analysis indicated that JZGX ameliorated metabolic abnormalities in atherosclerotic CAD mice and prompted lipid metabolism, especially linoleic acid. The PPARs and attached critical targets (SREBP1, FASN, PTGS2, and CYP3A), filtered from the networks and connected with lipid metabolism, were dramatically modulated through JZGX administration, as revealed by western blotting. The molecular docking outcomes showed that all 39 active ingredients in JZGX had good binding activity with PPARα and PPARγ. These findings illustrate that JZGX alleviates atherosclerotic CAD progression by remodeling the lipid metabolism and regulating PPAR-related proteins.

Abstract
Introduction People with type 2 diabetes (T2D) are highly susceptible to the development of cardiovascular diseases. Previous studies have suggested that the application of vitamin D may offer potential benefits in improving lipid profiles, but these effects remain controversial. Methods This systematic review and meta-analysis focused on the effects of vitamin D supplementation on serum lipid profiles in people with T2D. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the effects of vitamin D supplementation on lipid profiles and published before September 19th, 2023, were identified in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library. This review protocol was registered in the PROSPERO (CRD42023461136). The random-effects model was employed to estimate unstandardized mean differences (MD) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The quality of studies was assessed by the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool 2. Results Overall, 20 RCTs involving 1711 participants were included. Results indicated that vitamin D supplementation significantly improves serum high-density lipoprotein (HDL) (MD: 1.63 mg/dL, 95% CI: 0.19 to 3.08, P = 0.03), and triglyceride (TG) levels (MD: -8.56 mg/dL, 95% CI: -15.23 to -1.89, P = 0.01). However, vitamin D supplementation failed to improve low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels and total cholesterol (TC) levels. Subgroup analyses and meta-regressions suggested that higher doses of vitamin D supplementation and shorter duration of intervention were more likely to have favorable effects on lipid profiles. Moreover, participants with lower baseline BMI and higher serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D levels exhibited greater improvements in lipid profiles following vitamin D supplementation. Conclusions This meta-analysis highlighted the effects of vitamin D supplementation on improving serum HDL and TG levels while not exhibiting significant improvements in LDL and TC levels. Abstract
Background The prevalence of chronic diseases is high among the older population. Awareness of these conditions is a crucial prerequisite to initiate treatment, control and prevent further complications. This study evaluates sociodemographic disparities in awareness of chronic diseases among people 40 years and over in rural South Africa. Methods Data from the baseline survey of the Health and Aging in Africa: A Longitudinal Study of an INDEPTH Community in South Africa were analysed to estimate the level of awareness of chronic conditions such as HIV, hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidaemia among the population 40+ years. We compare self-reported awareness with objective measurements and conduct logistic regressions to evaluate sociodemographic determinants of awareness of chronic conditions. Results We find that 80% of individuals have at least one chronic condition-HIV, diabetes, hypertension and/or dyslipidaemia. Awareness rates were relatively high among those with at least one chronic condition but varied across conditions and genders: HIV (83% for women, 84% for men), hypertension (88% of women, 81% of men); diabetes (76% for women, 75% for men); dyslipidaemia (10% for both women and men). We observe differences across individual, household and community factors. Generally, women are more aware of their condition; awareness increases with age except for HIV; persons from high consumption per capita households, living with one or more persons and living closer to a health facility are more likely to be aware of their conditions. Conclusions Older adults in rural South Africa are generally aware of their chronic conditions, though there are important differences by age, gender and socioeconomic status. However, there is still a fraction unaware of their conditions and, therefore, lacking the necessary information to initiate treatment and implement behavioural changes to control them. Our findings may guide policy-makers directing the required efforts to promote targeted awareness campaigns by sociodemographic/socioeconomic subgroups.

Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of death globally. In recent years, follistatin-like protein 1 (FSTL1) has been proposed as an emerging potential clinical biomarker of CVD, since its concentration is upregulated in heart failure. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the association of FSTL1 levels and classic biomarkers with the risk of CVD in Mexican population. A case-control study was carried out in patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVD), arterial hypertension, but not CVD (cardiovascular risk factor-CRF), and healthy controls (control group) from the Mexican Institute of Social Security. Lipid profile, homocysteine (Hcys), serum amyloid A (SAA), FSTL1 concentration, PON1 concentration and activities [Arylesterase (ARE), and Lactonase (LAC)] were evaluated. High levels of FSTL1 were found in the CRF group and a positive association of FSTL1 (OR = 4.55; 95% CI 1.29-16.04, p = 0.02) with the presence of arterial hypertension, as well as Hcys (OR, 3.09; 95% CI 1.23-7.76, p = 0.02) and SAA (OR, 1.03; 95% CI 1.01-1.05, p < 0.01) with the presence of CVD. LAC activity (OR, 0.26; 95% CI 0.07-0.94, p = 0.04) and PON1 concentration (OR, 0.17; 95% CI 0.05-0.62, p = 0.01) were associated with a decrease in OR belonging to the group with CVD. Our results suggest that FSTL1 may be a useful biomarker for monitoring cardiovascular risk in clinical settings. However, longitudinal studies are needed to evaluate how FSTL1 could influence the association of PON1 activity and Hcys with CVD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The World Health Organization (WHO) updated its cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk prediction charts in 2019 to cover 21 global regions. We aimed to assess the performance of an updated non-lab-based risk chart for people with normoglycaemia, impaired fasting glucose (IFG), and diabetes in Eastern Sub-Saharan Africa. METHODS AND RESULTS We used data from six WHO STEPS surveys conducted in Eastern Sub-Saharan Africa between 2012 and 2017. We included 9857 participants aged 40-69 years with no CVD history. The agreement between lab- and non-lab-based charts was assessed using Bland-Altman plots and Cohen's kappa. The median age of the participants was 50 years (25-75th percentile: 44-57). The pooled median 10-year CVD risk was 3 % (25-75th percentile: 2-5) using either chart. According to the estimation, 7.5 % and 8.4 % of the participants showed an estimated CVD risk ≥10 % using the non-lab-based chart or the lab-based chart, respectively. The concordance between the two charts was 91.3 %. The non-lab-based chart underestimated the CVD risk in 57.6 % of people with diabetes. In the Bland-Altman plots, the limits of agreement between the two charts were widest among people with diabetes (-0.57-7.54) compared to IFG (-1.75-1.22) and normoglycaemia (-1.74-1.06). Kappa values of 0.79 (substantial agreement), 0.78 (substantial agreement), and 0.43 (moderate agreement) were obtained among people with normoglycaemia, IFG, and diabetes, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Given limited healthcare resources, the updated non-lab-based chart is suitable for CVD risk estimation in the general population without diabetes. Lab-based risk estimation is suitable for individuals with diabetes to avoid risk underestimation.

Abstract
The relationship between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and early onset atherosclerosis is well depicted, each with an important inflammatory component. Glycoprotein acetyls (GlycA), a novel biomarker of inflammation, may play a role in the manifestation of these two inflammatory conditions. The present study examined a potential mediating role of GlycA within the RA-atherosclerosis relationship to determine whether it accounts for the excess risk of cardiovascular disease over that posed by lipid risk factors. The UK Biobank dataset was acquired to establish associations among RA, atherosclerosis, GlycA, and major lipid factors: total cholesterol (TC), high- and low-density lipoprotein (HDL, LDL) cholesterol, and triglycerides (TGs). Genome-wide association study summary statistics were collected from various resources to perform genetic analyses. Causality among variables was tested using Mendelian Randomization (MR) analysis. Genes of interest were identified using colocalization analysis and gene enrichment analysis. MR results appeared to indicate that the genetic relationship between GlycA and RA and also between RA and atherosclerosis was explained by horizontal pleiotropy (p-value = 0.001 and <0.001, respectively), while GlycA may causally predict atherosclerosis (p-value = 0.017). Colocalization analysis revealed several functionally relevant genes shared between GlycA and all the variables assessed. Two loci were apparent in all relationships tested and included the HLA region as well as SLC22A1. GlycA appears to mediate the RA-atherosclerosis relationship through several possible pathways. GlycA, although pleiotropically related to RA, appears to causally predict atherosclerosis. Thus, GlycA is suggested as a significant factor in the etiology of atherosclerosis development in RA.

Abstract
Objectives This study aims to compare HRV variables across three cohorts: normotensive (NT), prehypertensive (pre-HT), and hypertensive (HT) and to assess the relationship between the blood pressure (BP) and HRV parameters. Methods Employing a cross-sectional design, 64 older participants were categorized based on the Joint National Committee's criteria into NT (n = 10), pre-HT (n = 33), and HT (n = 21) groups. Anthropometric data, lipid profiles, and HRV indices were evaluated. HRV data were obtained from the Polar V800 chest strap device using HRV Kubios software for data analysis of short-term recordings lasting 10 minutes. This analysis encompasses both time and frequency domain assessments. The time domain includes the standard deviation of NN intervals (SDNN), the root mean square of successive RR interval differences (RMSSD), and the percentage of successive RR intervals differing by over 50 ms (pNN50). The frequency domain includes low frequency (LF), high frequency (HF), and the ratio of LF-to-HF power (LF/HF). Data were statistically analyzed via one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Pearson correlation. Results The HT group exhibited significantly lower values in SDNN, pNN50, LF power, and HF power in comparison to the NT group (P < 0.05). Moreover, the HT group had a significantly lower SDNN value compared to the pre-HT group (P < 0.05). Inverse associations were uncovered between systolic and diastolic blood pressure and SDNN, pNN50, and HF power (P < 0.05). Multiple regression further highlighted the significance of systolic and pulse pressure concerning HF power (P < 0.05). Conclusions HRV indices are reduced in Thai older adults with HT compared with those with NT. Monitoring HRV in older adults can provide valuable insights into autonomic function and cardiovascular disease risk.

Abstract
Dietary interventions are receiving increasing attention for maintaining host health and diminishing disease risk. This study endeavored to elucidate the intervention effect of chlorogenic acid coupled with extruded rice starch (CGA-ES) in mitigating lipid metabolism disorders induced by a high-fat diet (HFD) in rats. First, a significant increase in resistant starch (RS) and a decrease in the predicted glycemic index (pGI) were observed in CGA-ES owing to the formation of an ordered structure (Dm, single helix, and V-type crystalline structure) and partly released CGA. Compared to a physical mixture of starch and chlorogenic acid (CGA + S), CGA-ES showed a more potent effect in alleviating lipid metabolism disorders, manifesting as reduced levels of blood glucose, serum total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT) and alkaline phosphatase (AKP), as well as body weight. It is correlated with an improvement in the gut microecology, featuring bacteria known for cholesterol reduction and butyrate production (Butyricicoccus, Bifidobacterium, Fusicatenibacter, Turicibacter, and Enterorhabdus), along with bile acid, butyrate and PG (PG (17:0/16:0) and PG (18:1/16:0)). The RS fraction of CGA-ES was found to be the main contributor. These findings would provide evidence for future studies to regulate lipid metabolism disorders, and even obesity using CGA-ES.

Abstract
The relationship between phthalate exposure and coronary heart disease (CHD) is still unclear. This study aimed to investigate the association between phthalate exposure and CHD and determine the possible atherogenic mechanisms of phthalates by assessing oxidative stress and altering miRNA expression. This case-control study included 110 participants (55 CHD patients and 55 healthy controls). The levels of oxidative stress markers, malondialdehyde (MDA), and superoxide dismutase (SOD), and the expression of miRNA-155 (miR-155) and miRNA-208a (miR-208a), were measured and correlated with the urinary mono-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (MEHP). Highly significant differences were detected between the CHD cases and the control group regarding MEHP, MDA, SOD, miR-155, and miR-208a (p-value < 0.001). Spearman correlations revealed a significant positive correlation between MDA and MEHP in urine (P = 0.001 and rs = 0.316) and a significant negative correlation between SOD and MEHP in urine (P < 0.001 and rs = -0.345). Furthermore, significant positive correlations were observed between miR-155 and urinary MEHP (P = 0.001 and rs = 0.318) and miR-208a and urinary MEHP (P < 0.001 and rs = -0.352). This study revealed an association between phthalate exposure, as indicated by urinary MEHP and CHD; altered expression of miR-155 and miR-208a and oxidative stress could be the fundamental mechanisms.

Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a field of study that strives to replicate aspects of human intelligence into machines. Preventive cardiology, a subspeciality of cardiovascular (CV) medicine, aims to target and mitigate known risk factors for CV disease (CVD). AI's integration into preventive cardiology may introduce novel treatment interventions and AI-centered clinician assistive tools to reduce the risk of CVD. AI's role in nutrition, weight loss, physical activity, sleep hygiene, blood pressure, dyslipidemia, smoking, alcohol, recreational drugs, and mental health has been investigated. AI has immense potential to be used for the screening, detection, and monitoring of the mentioned risk factors. However, the current literature must be supplemented with future clinical trials to evaluate the capabilities of AI interventions for preventive cardiology. This review discusses present examples, potentials, and limitations of AI's role for the primary and secondary prevention of CVD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Atherosclerotic vascular diseases are a leading global cause of morbidity and mortality. Dyslipidemia, a major modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease, remains poorly understood among adult cardiac patients in in the study area. This study aims to determine the prevalence of dyslipidemia and identify associated factors in this population. METHODS Hospital-based comparative cross-sectional study was conducted from May to August 2021. A total of 319 participants (153 cardiac cases, 166 healthy controls, aged ≥ 18) were included in the study. Socio-demographic, anthropometric, behavioral, and clinical data were collected using the WHO STEPS survey instrument through systematic sampling. Overnight fasting blood samples were obtained, and serum lipid profiles were analyzed using a COBAS 6000 analyzer. Data were analyzed with SPSS version 20.0, employing bivariable and multivariable logistic regression. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. RESULTS The overall prevalence of dyslipidemia, encompassing at least one lipid abnormality, was 80.3% among 256 participants. Among cardiac cases, the prevalence rates were as follows: 72.5% for low HDL-cholesterol, 12.4% for hypercholesterolemia, 9.8% for elevated LDL-cholesterol, and 30.1% for hypertriglyceridemia. In controls, corresponding rates were 69.9%, 9.6%, 7.2%, and 32.5%. Significant factors linked to low HDL- cholesterol were female gender (AOR: 2.8, 95% CI 1.7-4.7) and obesity (AOR: 2.8, 95% CI 1.1-7.5). Abdominal obesity was associated with hypercholesterolemia (AOR: 5.2, 95% CI 1.9-14.3) and elevated LDL-cholesterol (AOR: 5.1, 95% CI 1.6-15.8). High blood pressure, overweight, and abdominal obesity were significantly linked to hypertriglyceridemia (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION Dyslipidemia was high among the study participants. Overweight, obesity, central adiposity, and high blood pressure were significantly associated with dyslipidemia in cardiac patients. This alarms the need for lipid profile assessment for patients periodically, with treatment follow-up to monitor any rising patterns and cardiovascular-related risks.

Abstract
Chronic coronary syndrome (CCS) has a high mortality rate, and dyslipidemia is a major risk factor. Atherosclerosis, a cause of CCS, is influenced by gut microbiota dysbiosis and its metabolites. The objective of this study was to study the diversity and composition of gut microbiota and related clinical parameters among CCS patients undergoing coronary angiography and dyslipidemia patients in comparison to healthy volunteers in Thailand. CCS patients had more risk factors and higher inflammatory markers, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) than others. The alpha diversity was lower in dyslipidemia and CCS patients than in the healthy group. A significant difference in the composition of gut microbiota was observed among the three groups. The relative abundance of Proteobacteria, Fusobacteria, Enterobacteriaceae, Prevotella, and Streptococcus was significantly increased while Roseburia, Ruminococcus, and Faecalibacterium were lower in CCS patients. In CCS patients, Lachnospiraceae, Peptostreptococcaceae, and Pediococcus were positively correlated with hs-CRP. In dyslipidemia patients, Megasphaera was strongly positively correlated with triglyceride (TG) level and negatively correlated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). The modification of gut microbiota was associated with changes in clinical parameters involved in the development of coronary artery disease (CAD) in CCS patients.

Abstract
Ainuovirine (ANV), a novel non-nucleoside reverse-transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI), was approved in China in 2021. In a previous randomized phase 3 trial, ANV demonstrated non-inferior efficacy relative to efavirenz (EFV) and was associated with lower rates of dyslipidemia. In this study, we aimed to explore lipid changes in treatment-experienced people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 (PWH) switching to ANV from EFV in real world. At week 24, 96.65% of patients in the ANV group and 93.25% in the EFV group had HIV-1 RNA levels below the limit of quantification (LOQ). Median changes from baseline in CD4 +T cell counts (37.0 vs 36.0 cells/µL, P = 0.886) and CD4+/CD8 +ratio (0.03 vs 0.10, P = 0.360) were similar between the two groups. The ANV group was superior to the EFV group in mean changes in total cholesterol (TC, -0.06 vs 0.26 mmol/L, P = 0.006), triglyceride (TG, -0.6 vs 0.14 mmol/L, P < 0.001), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C, 0.09 vs 0.08 mmol/L, P = 0.006), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C, -0.18 vs 0.29 mmol/L, P < 0.001) at week 24. We also observed that a higher proportion of patients demonstrated improved TC (13.55% vs 4.45%, P = 0.015) or LDL-C (12.93% vs 6.89%, P = 0.017), and a lower proportion of patients showed worsened LDL-C (5.57% vs 13.52%, P = 0.017) with ANV than with EFV at week 24. In conclusion, we observed good efficacy and favorable changes in lipids in switching to ANV from EFV in treatment-experienced PWH in real world, indicating a promising switching option for PWH who may be more prone to metabolic or cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract
Background The use of nontraditional lipid parameters for assessing clinical conditions is emerging; however, no study has identified thresholds for those parameters for the identification of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. The present study aimed to establish the thresholds of nontraditional lipid parameters and test its ability to identify CVD risk factors. Methodology A cross-sectional study in women (n = 369, age: 46 ± 13 years, body mass index (BMI): 26.31 ± 2.54 kg/m2) was conducted. Blood samples were collected and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, total cholesterol (TC), and triglycerides (TGs) were estimated. Subsequently, nontraditional lipid parameters were calculated, namely non-HDL-C, Castelli's Risk Index II (CRI-II), CRI-I, lipoprotein combined index (LCI), atherogenic index (AI), and AI of plasma (AIP). Results Based on TC (≥200 mg/dL), the derived thresholds for non-HDL-C, CRI-II, CRI-I, LCI, AI, and AIP were 139 mg/dL, 2.29, 3.689, 58,066, 2.687, and 0.487, respectively. Similarly, based on the threshold of TG (≥150 mg/dL), the derived thresholds for non-HDL-C, CRI-II, CRI-I, LCI, AI, and AIP were 127 mg/dL, 2.3, 3.959, 58,251, 2.959, and 0.467, respectively. Out of considered five risk factors, non-HDL-C, CRI-II, CRI-I, LCI, and AI thresholds were capable in identifying four risk factors (physical activity, blood pressure, BMI, and age) and AIP was able to associate with two risk factors at most (blood pressure and BMI). Conclusion The derived thresholds of nontraditional lipid parameters were capable of differentiating between CVD risk and nonrisk groups suggesting the possible use of these thresholds for studying CVD risk.

Abstract
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) continues to impose a significant global health burden, necessitating the exploration of innovative treatment strategies. Ribonucleic acid (RNA)-based therapeutics have emerged as a promising avenue to address the complex molecular mechanisms underlying CVD pathogenesis. We present a comprehensive review of the current state of RNA therapeutics in the context of CVD, focusing on the diverse modalities that bring about transient or permanent modifications by targeting the different stages of the molecular biology central dogma. Considering the immense potential of RNA therapeutics, we have identified common gene targets that could serve as potential interventions for prevalent Mendelian CVD caused by single gene mutations, as well as acquired CVDs developed over time due to various factors. These gene targets offer opportunities to develop RNA-based treatments tailored to specific genetic and molecular pathways, presenting a novel and precise approach to address the complex pathogenesis of both types of cardiovascular conditions. Additionally, we discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with delivery strategies to achieve targeted delivery of RNA therapeutics to the cardiovascular system. This review highlights the immense potential of RNA-based interventions as a novel and precise approach to combat CVD, paving the way for future advancements in cardiovascular therapeutics.

Abstract
The cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) is an important parameter assessing arterial function. It reflects arterial stiffness from the origin of the aorta to the ankle, and the algorithm is blood pressure independent. Recent data have suggested that a high CAVI score can predict future cardiovascular disease (CVD) events; however, to date, no study has been done in Malaysia. We conducted a prospective study on 2,168 The Malaysian Cohort (TMC) CVD-free participants (971 men and 1,197 women; mean age 51.64 ± 8.38 years old) recruited from November 2011 to March 2012. This participants were followed-up until the emergence of CVD incidence and mortality (endpoint between May to September 2019; duration of 7.5 years). Eligible participants were assessed based on CAVI baseline measurement which categorised them into low (CAVI <9.0) and high (CAVI ≥ 9.0) scores. The CVD events in the group with high CAVI (6.5 %) were significantly higher than in the low CAVI (2.6 %) group (p < 0.05). CAVI with cut-off point ≥ 9.0 was a significant independent predictor for CVD event even after adjustment for male, ethnicity, age, and intermediate atherogenic index of plasma (AIP). Those who have higher CAVI have 78 % significantly higher risk of developing CVD compared to those with the low CAVI (adjusted OR [95 % CI] = 1.78 [1.04 - 3.05], p =0.035). In addition, the participants with higher CAVI have significantly lower survival probability than those who have lower CAVI values. Thus, this study indicated that the CAVI can predict CVD event independently among the TMC participants.

Abstract
This study investigated the effects of fish oil (FO), soybean oil (SO), rapeseed oil (RO), peanut oil (PO) and lard oil (LO) on growth, immunity and muscle quality in juvenile largemouth bass. After 8 weeks, the results showed that FO and RO could increase weight gain and serum alkaline phosphatase and apelin values compared with LO (p < 0.05). Except lower crude lipid contents, higher amounts of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (15.83% and 14.64%) were present in the dorsal muscle of the FO and RO groups. Meanwhile, FO and RO could heighten mRNA levels of immune defense molecules (lysozyme, hepcidin, and transforming growth factor β1) compared with PO (p < 0.05). While SO could increase potential inflammatory risk via rising counts of white blood cells, platelets, neutrophils and monocytes, and mRNA levels of interleukins (IL-1β, IL-8, IL-12 and IL-15), FO and RO could improve hardness, chewiness and springiness through increasing amounts of hydroxyproline, collagen and lysyl oxidase, and mRNA levels of collagen 1α2 and prolyl hydroxylase in the fish dorsal muscle. Moreover, FO and RO could improve firmness through increasing glycogen and glycogen synthase 1 levels when compared with LO (p < 0.05). Therefore, these results could provide dietary lipid source references during the feeding process of adult largemouth bass.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The novel sex-specific anthropometric equation relative fat mass (RFM) is a new estimator of whole-body fat %. The study aimed to investigate the predictive role of RFM in cardiometabolic abnormalities, cardiovascular disease (CVD), all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, and explored potential sex differences. METHODS AND RESULTS The study analyzed data from 26,754 adults in NHANES 1999-2010, with a median follow-up of 13.8 years. The correlation between RFM and body composition as well as fat distribution assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry was investigated. Weighted multivariable generalized linear models, Cox proportional hazards models and restricted cubic spline were applied to investigate the predictive role of RFM in metabolic markers, cardiovascular risk factors, CVD, all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. RFM exhibited a robust correlation with both whole-body fat % and trunk fat %. Higher RFM exhibited a stronger association with impaired glucose homeostasis, serum lipids, the incidence of hypertension, and coronary heart disease in males, while a stronger association with C-reactive protein in females. A U-shaped association between RFM and all-cause mortality was observed only in males. The hazard ratio (HR) of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in males increased rapidly when RFM exceeded 30. However, in females, the HR of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality fluctuated until RFM exceeded 45, after which it increased rapidly. CONCLUSION RFM was a sex-specific estimator for both general and central obesity, sex-specific differences in predicting cardiometabolic abnormalities and adverse events using RFM might be partially attributed to differences in body composition and fat distribution between sexes.

Abstract
Epidemiologic studies have demonstrated that diabetes amplifies the effects of dyslipidemia as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). A better understanding of lipid profiles is important for lipid-lowering treatment and reducing cardiovascular risk in populations with diabetes. To describe the dyslipidemia patterns in patient with and without diabetes in the adult US population. Data from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011 to 2016 was analyzed. Surprisingly, 49.9% of the people with diabetes have both normal triglycerides (TGs) and normal high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). 33.4% of the people with diabetes have elevated TGs and 36.1% of them have low HDL-C. Only 19.3% of them have both elevated TGs and low HDL-C. Among people without diabetes, 67.5% have normal TGs and normal HDL-C, 28.0% have elevated TGs, 23.9% have low HDL-C and 8.8% have both elevated TGs and low HDL-C. The differences in the proportions of individuals with both elevated TGs and low HDL-C between the diabetic group and the nondiabetic group were more obvious in females: 7.7% in women without diabetes and 22.7% in women with diabetes. The proportion of individuals in the TG↑HDL-C↓group in the population with diabetes exhibited a decreasing trend in age groups > 30 years old, and the 30 to 40 years group of individuals with diabetes had the highest proportion of atherogenic dyslipidemia. The low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) to apoB ratio is generally lower in people with diabetes, with the lowest level in the TG↑HDL-C↓group. Dyslipidemia patterns in diabetes patients are highly heterogeneous. Deep phenotyping sub-groups of dyslipidemia is warranted to identify higher-risk patients for evaluation of non-LDL-C therapies. This explained at least partially of the difficult search for novel therapies in the post-LDL-C era.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dyslipidemia is among the leading risk factors for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), with an increasing global burden, especially in developing countries. We investigated the prevalence of dyslipidemia and abnormal lipid profiles in Tehran. METHODS We used data from 8072 individuals aged≥35 from the Tehran Cohort Study (TeCS) recruitment phase. Fasting serum total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C), and triglyceride were measured. Dyslipidemia was defined according to the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III criteria, and high LDL/HDL was defined as a ratio>2.5. The age-sex standardized prevalence rates were calculated based on the 2016 national census. Furthermore, the geographical distribution of dyslipidemia and lipid abnormalities was investigated across Tehran's zip code districts. RESULTS The age-sex standardized prevalence was 82.7% (95% CI: 80.1%, 85.0%) for dyslipidemia, 36.9% (95% CI: 33.8%, 40.1%) for hypertriglyceridemia, 22.5% (95% CI: 19.9%, 25.4%) for hypercholesterolemia, 29.0% (95% CI: 26.1%, 32.1%) for high LDL-C, 55.9% (95% CI: 52.6%, 59.2%) for low HDL-C, and 54.1% (95% CI: 50.9%, 57.3%) for high LDL/HDL ratio in the Tehran adult population. The prevalence of dyslipidemia, low HDL-C, and high LDL/HDL ratio was higher in the northern regions, hypercholesterolemia was higher in the southern half, and high LDL-C was more prevalent in the middle-northern and southern areas of Tehran. CONCLUSION We found a high prevalence of dyslipidemia, mainly high LDL/HDL in the Tehran adult population. This dyslipidemia profiling provides important information for public health policy to improve preventive interventions and reduce dyslipidemiarelated morbidity and mortality in the future.

Abstract
Hyperlipidemia accounts for about 17 million deaths worldwide each year. High cost and side effects have limited the use of conventional anti-lipidaemic agents in some cases, majority of whom resort to traditional medicine. The current research focused on validating the safety and efficacy of a herbal product, 'LIPO A' used in the management of hyperlipidaemia. Induction of hyperlipidaemia was achieved by oral administration of 3 mL of cholesterol in coconut oil for 4 weeks in male Sprague Dawley rats with water available as 40 % sucrose. Subsequently, the animals were treated with 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg of the product 'LIPO A' for 4 additional weeks with atorvastatin as reference drug (at 2 mg/kg body weight). Blood samples were taken for serum biochemistry and atherogenic ratios were then calculated. 2,2-Diphenyl-1-Picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging assay, total antioxidant capacity, physicochemical and phytochemical analysis were also carried out using standard methods. Treatment resulted in a dose-dependent reduction in total cholesterol with maximum reduction of 46.01 % at 400 mg/kg compared to atorvastatin with 49.30 %. There were significant changes in the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c/HDL-c) and Total Cholesterol (TC/HDL-c) ratios which measures the atherogenic and coronary risk indices respectively. Acute and subacute toxicity studies did not reveal any signs of toxicity. High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) fingerprint revealed six well resolved peaks with two prominent compounds with retention times 24.88 and 23.95 min, which could serve as quality control markers for the product. The herbal product showed considerable antihyperlipidemic and antioxidant actions in rodent models and lend credence to its use in traditional medicine for hyperlipidaemia.

Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) encompass various conditions affecting the heart and its blood vessels and are often linked with oral microbes. Our data analysis aimed to identify oral bacteria from other non-oral sites (i.e., gut, arterial plaque and cultured blood) that could be linked with CVDs. Taxonomic profiling identified bacteria to the species level and compared with the Human Oral Microbiome Database (HOMD). The oral bacteria in the gut, cultured blood and arterial plaque samples were catalogued, with their average frequency calculated for each sample. Additionally, data were filtered by comparison with the Human Microbiome Project (HMP) database. We identified 17,243 microbial species, of which 410 were present in the HOMD database and further denominated as "oral", and were found in at least one gut sample, but only 221 and 169 species were identified in the cultured blood and plaque samples, respectively. Of the 410 species, 153 were present solely in oral-associated environments after comparison with the HMP database, irrespective of their presence in other body sites. Our results suggest a potential connection between the presence of specific species of oral bacterial and occurrence of CVDs. Detecting these oral bacterial species in non-oral sites of patients with CVDs could help uncover the link between oral health and general health, including cardiovascular conditions via bacterial translocation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a leading cause of global mortality, motivating research into novel approaches for their management. Lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)), a unique lipoprotein particle, has been implicated in atherosclerosis and thrombosis, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic target for CVDs. AIM This study aimed to investigate the association of Lp(a) levels with various cardiovascular parameters and events among patients with confirmed cardiovascular disease. METHODOLOGY A prospective study was conducted, enrolling 600 participants, predominantly comprising males (79%), with a mean age of 52.78 ± 0.412 years diagnosed with cardiovascular disease. The follow-up was done for 18 months. Patient demographics, blood investigations, and occurrence of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) were collected. SPSS version 21 was used to statistically analyze the relationships between elevated Lp(a) levels and factors such as age, glycated hemoglobin, mortality, MACE, cardiac death, target vessel revascularization, and stroke. RESULTS The study revealed significant (P < 0.05) associations between elevated Lp(a) levels and advanced age, increased glycated hemoglobin levels, as well as occurrences of all-cause mortality, MACE, cardiac death, target vessel revascularization, and stroke. Notably, a significant (P < 0.05), association between high Lp(a) levels and acute coronary syndrome (ACS) emerged, suggesting Lp(a)'s role in advanced cardiac events. CONCLUSION The findings highlight the potential significance of Lp(a) as a notable risk factor in cardiovascular health. The observed associations between elevated Lp(a) and adverse cardiovascular events, including ACS, underscore its pathogenic role. Consequently, this study supports the rationale for further research into Lp(a)-specific therapeutic interventions, offering substantial promise in refining the management strategies for cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract
Objective To investigate the effects of anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) treatment on lipid profiles and identify risk factors for an increase in total cholesterol (TC) after the anti-TNF treatment in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients. Methods This retrospective cohort study analyzed AS patients who received the first-line anti-TNF treatment. Patients with at least nine months of follow-up were included; those who were under 18 years or on any lipid-lowering agent were excluded. A linear mixed model was used to assess the impact of anti-TNF inhibitors on disease activity and lipid profile (TC, low-density lipoprotein [LDL], high-density lipoprotein [HDL], and triglycerides [TG]). Univariable and multivariable linear regression were used to identify risk factors for an increase in TC after 3 months of anti-TNF treatment. Results A total of 315 AS patients were enrolled (78.1% male, median age 32.0 [26.0~41.0]). TC, HDL, and TG levels significantly increased particularly within the first 3 months of anti-TNF treatment, while LDL level did not show significant changes. Changes in inflammatory markers and lipid particles (TC, LDL, TG) were correlated over time, but HDL showed no significant correlation. Older age, higher baseline erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and lower baseline LDL level were related to an increase in TC after 3 months of the anti-TNF treatment. Conclusion In AS patients, anti-TNF treatment has been found to increase lipid particles, potentially due to its anti-inflammatory effects. Future research should explore the underlying mechanism and the clinical implications of dyslipidemia, particularly the occurrence of cardiovascular events, following anti-TNF treatment in AS patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Growing evidence shows the undisputable role of non-HDL-C and remnant cholesterol (remnant-C) in cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk assessment and treatment. However, the reference interval (RI) for these lipid parameters is not readily available. The aim of the present investigation was to determine the age and sex-specific RIs for non-HDL-C and remnant-C as well as other lipid parameters among a healthy population in southern Iran. We also report the RI of lipid parameters in rural and urban residents, smokers and post-menopausal women. METHODS Among 14063 participants of Bandare Kong and Fasa cohort studies, 792 healthy subjects (205 men and 578 women) aged 35-70 years were selected. Fasting blood samples were used for determination of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG) and HDL-C using colorimetric methods. Non-HDL-C and remnant-C were calculated using the valid formula. The 2.5th and 97.5th percentiles were calculated and considered as RI. RESULTS In the total population (n=792, age 35-70), RIs for non-HDL-C and remnant-C was 74.0-206.8 and 8.0-52.7 mg/dL, respectively. Age (35-44 and≥45 years) and gender-specific RIs for serum non-HDL-C and remnant-C were determined. Remnant-C and non-HDL-C level were different between sex and age categories. The mean value of all lipid parameters except HDL-C was higher in men, urban residents, subject with age≥45 years and smokers. CONCLUSION This is the first study in which the RIs for non-HDL-C and remnant-C in southern Iran are reported. This may help physicians to conveniently use these lipid parameters for patient care and better cardiovascular risk assessment.

Abstract
Atherosclerosis remains the leading cause of coronary heart disease (CHD) with enormous health and societal tolls. Traditional drug development approaches have been focused on small molecule-based compounds that aim to lower plasma lipids and reduce systemic inflammation, two primary causes of atherosclerosis. However, despite the widely available lipid-lowering and anti-inflammatory small compounds and biologic agents, CHD prevalence still remains high. Based on recent advances revealing disrupted immune homeostasis during atherosclerosis pathogenesis, novel strategies aimed at rejuvenating immune homeostasis with engineered immune leukocytes are being developed. This chapter aims to assess basic and translational efforts on these emerging strategies for the effective development of atherosclerosis treatment, as well as key challenges in this important translational field.

Abstract
Objective to determine the lipid profile levels and association with anthropometric measurements and atherogenic index of plasma values in females from Taibah University. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted from January 2019 to January 2020 at the female section of Taibah University, located in Madinah, Saudi Arabia. The study sample consisted of 240 females ranging from 19 to 50 years. Measurements related to anthropometry such as height, weight, waist, and hip circumference, were calculated. Body Mass Index, Lipid profiles, and Atherogenic Index of Plasma were also measured. Results Almost 73.4% of the participants were obese and overweight, with a mean BMI of 28.79±5.7 kg/m2. Overweight and obese women were observed to have high total cholesterol and triglyceride levels (P≤0.05). Out of 244 participants, 120 (49.2%) and 44 (18%) were at intermediate and high risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), respectively, as determined by the atherogenic index of plasma AIP. Intermediate and high-risk CVD groups had higher lipid profile levels and high waist-to-hip ratio compared to those in females at low risk (P≤0.05). AIP was positively and significantly associated with total cholesterol and triglyceride but negatively correlated with HDL concentration. Furthermore, the BMI had significantly positive correlation with triglyceride and waist to hip ratio (P≤0.05). Conclusion The majority of the participants were overweight and obese, with high levels of triglycerides and total cholesterol and high waist to hip ratio, placing them at intermediate or high risk of CVD based on AIP values. Additional CVD risk screenings, targeted specifically at overweight and obese women, are needed.

Abstract
Mediterranean diet is frequently associated with longevity and a lower incidence of adverse cardiovascular events because of the biological activities and health effects of olives - its key component. Olive oil, olive leaf extract, fruits and different by-products contain many bioactive components that exert anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic activities. In this review, we focus on the recent studies exploring molecular mechanisms underlying the cardioprotective properties of different olive oils, olive leave extracts, and specific micro-constituents (such as oleuropein, tyrosol, hydroxytyrosol and others) in vitro on rodent models and in clinical trials on human subjects. Particularly, hydroxytyrosol and oleuropein were identified as the major bioactive compounds responsible for the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-platelet aggregation and anti-atherogenic activities of olive oil. In total, the discussed results demonstrated a positive association between the consumption of olive oil and improvement in outcomes in atherosclerosis, diabetes, myocardial infarction, heart failure, hypertension and obesity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Despite considerable evidence that lipid-lowering therapies (LLTs) afford clinical benefit, the control of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is suboptimal, and available LLTs are underused, especially in patients at high and very high cardiovascular (CV) risk. This study assesses the real-world LDL-C target attainment rate in patients on LLT before experiencing a first major acute cardiovascular event (MACE). METHODS AND RESULTS The HEARTBEAT was a retrospective, multicentre observational study. From March to June 2021 a total of 334 patients on LLT who had a first MACE while being on statins were included in the study. Of these patients, 83.2 % had a high (40.7 %) or very high CV risk (29.0 %) prior to MACE. Overall, 87.5 % and 89.7 % of the patients at high and very high CV risk, respectively, failed to reach the LDL-C target. Regarding LLTs, only 11.8 % and 19.6 % of the patients at high and very high risk had received high-intensity LLTs prior to MACE. It was estimated that if these patients had reached their recommended LDL-C targets, the risk of MACE may have been reduced by a median of 24.5 % and 23.2 % in patients at high and very high risk respectively. CONCLUSIONS Patients who suffer a first MACE while on statin therapy often were at high/very high CV risk. Despite their risk, LDL-levels and being on statins they are undertreated, and too far from lipid targets. A proper use of high-intensity LLTs led to an increase attainment of LDL targets and lower CV events.

Abstract
Dyslipidemia and altered lipid metabolism are closely involved in the pathogenesis and clinical manifestation of many metabolic and non-metabolic diseases. Therefore, mitigation of pharmacological and nutritional factors together with lifestyle modifications is paramount. One potential nutraceutical exhibiting cell signaling and lipid-modulating properties implicated in dyslipidemias is curcumin. Specifically, recent evidence suggest that curcumin may improve lipid metabolism and prevent dyslipidemia-induced cardiovascular complications via several pathways. Although the exact molecular mechanisms involved are not well understood, the evidence presented in this review suggests that curcumin can provide significant lipid benefits via modulation of adipogenesis and lipolysis, and prevention or reduction of lipid peroxidation and lipotoxicity via different molecular pathways. Curcumin can also improve the lipid profile and reduce dyslipidemia- dependent cardiovascular problems by impacting important mechanisms of fatty acid oxidation, lipid absorption, and cholesterol metabolism. Although only limited direct supporting evidence is available, in this review we assess the available knowledge regarding the possible nutraceutical effects of curcumin on lipid homeostasis and its possible impacts on dyslipidemic cardiovascular events from a mechanistic viewpoint.

Abstract
The primary prevention, early detection, and treatment of cardiovascular disease (CVD) have been long-standing scientific research goals worldwide. In the past decades, traditional blood lipid profiles have been routinely used in clinical practice to estimate the risk of CVDs such as atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and as treatment targets for the primary prevention of adverse cardiac events. These blood lipid panel tests often fail to fully predict all CVD risks and thus need to be improved. A comprehensive analysis of molecular species of lipids and metabolites (defined as lipidomics and metabolomics, respectively) can provide molecular insights into the pathophysiology of the disease and could serve as diagnostic and prognostic indicators of disease. Mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)-based lipidomics and metabolomics analysis have been increasingly used to study the metabolic changes that occur during CVD pathogenesis. In this review, we provide an overview of various MS-based platforms and approaches that are commonly used in lipidomics and metabolomics workflows. This review summarizes the lipids and metabolites in human plasma/serum that have recently (from 2018 to December 2022) been identified as promising CVD biomarkers. In addition, this review describes the potential pathophysiological mechanisms associated with candidate CVD biomarkers. Future studies focused on these potential biomarkers and pathways will provide mechanistic clues of CVD pathogenesis and thus help with the risk assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of CVD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Injectable medicines are increasingly used to manage abnormal levels of lipids, which is a major risk factor for cardiovascular events. Enhancing our understanding of patients' perceptions of these injectables, can inform practice with the aim of increasing uptake and medication adherence. AIM To explore patient's experiences of using injectables and to identify potential facilitators and barriers to using injectable therapies in dyslipidaemia. DESIGN A qualitative descriptive study using semi-structured interviews was conducted with patients who were using injectables to manage their cardiovascular conditions. METHODS A total of 56 patients, 30 from the United Kingdom and 26 from Italy, were interviewed online from November 2020 to June 2021. Interviews were transcribed and schematic content analysis performed. RESULTS Four distinct themes emerged from interviews with patients and caregivers: (i) Their behaviours and personal beliefs; (ii) Knowledge and education about injectable medication; (iii) Clinical skills and previous experiences and (iv) Organizational and governance. Participants expressed initial fears such as needle phobia, and their concerns about commencing therapy were compounded by a lack of accessible information. However, patients' pre-existing knowledge of lipid lowering medication, previous experience with statins and history of adverse side effects informed their decision-making regarding using injectables. Organization and governance-related issues were primarily around the distribution and management of medication supply within primary care, and the lack of a standardized clinical support monitoring system. CONCLUSION Changes are needed in clinical practice to better educate and support patients to improve the uptake of injectables and optimize their use of these medications in the management of dyslipidaemia. IMPACT This study suggests that injectable therapies were acceptable to people with cardiovascular disease. However, healthcare professionals need to play a key role in improving education and providing support to aid patients' decision-making regarding commencing and adhering to injectable therapies. REPORTING METHOD The study adhered to the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION There was no patient or public contribution.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Dyslipidemia causes metabolic disorders such as atherosclerosis and fatty liver syndrome due to abnormally high blood lipids. Purple perilla frutescens extract (PPE) possesses various bioactive compounds such as α-asarone, chlorogenic acid and rosmarinic acid. This study examined whether PPE and α-asarone improved dyslipidemia-associated inflammation and inhibited atheroma formation in apolipoprotein E (apoE)-deficient mice, an experimental animal model of atherosclerosis. MATERIALS/METHODS ApoE-deficient mice were fed on high cholesterol-diet (Paigen's diet) and orally administrated with 10-20 mg/kg PPE and α-asarone for 10 wk. RESULTS The Paigen's diet reduced body weight gain in apoE-deficient mice, which was not restored by PPE or α-asarone. PPE or α-asarone improved the plasma lipid profiles in Paigen's diet-fed apoE-deficient mice, and despite a small increase in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol, and very LDL were significantly reduced. Paigen's diet-induced systemic inflammation was reduced in PPE or α-asarone-treated apoE-deficient mice. Supplying PPE or α-asarone to mice lacking apoE suppressed aorta atherogenesis induced by atherogenic diet. PPE or α-asarone diminished aorta accumulation of CD68- and/or F4/80-positive macrophages induced by atherogenic diet in apoE-deficient mice. Treatment of apoE-deficient mice with PPE and α-asarone resulted in a significant decrease in plasma cholesteryl ester transfer protein level and an increase in lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase reduced by supply of Paigen's diet. Supplementation of PPE and α-asarone enhanced the transcription of hepatic apoA1 and SR-B1 reduced by Paigen's diet in apoE-deficient mice. CONCLUSIONS α-Asarone in PPE inhibited inflammation-associated atheroma formation and promoted hepatic HDL-C trafficking in dyslipidemic mice.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS It is currently unclear whether the nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) fibrosis score, when compared to major anthropometric indices, is useful in estimating the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). METHODS AND RESULTS This study included 3886 adults undergoing a health checkup. An elevated risk of ASCVD was determined as a 10-year ASCVD risk ≥7.5% using Pooled Cohort Equations. NAFLD was diagnosed with abdominal ultrasonography. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to evaluate the performance of estimating an elevated ASCVD risk. Among study participants, 521 (13.4%) had an elevated ASCVD risk and 1473 (37.9%) had NAFLD. Subjects with NAFLD had a significantly higher rate of ASCVD risk ≥7.5% (p < 0.001) compared to those without NAFLD. After adjusting for cardiometabolic risk factors, NAFLD (OR = 1.49, 95% CI: 1.10-2.00, p = 0.009) in all participants and NAFLD fibrosis score >0.676 (OR = 1.95, 95% CI: 1.30-2.92, p = 0.001) in individuals with NAFLD were significantly associated with an elevated risk of ASCVD. When compared to different anthropometric indices, NAFLD fibrosis score exhibited the largest area under the curve (AUC) in individuals with NAFLD (AUC = 0.750) in estimating an elevated ASCVD risk. Furthermore, NAFLD fibrosis score displayed the best predictive performance for identifying an elevated ASCVD risk in male participants with NAFLD (AUC = 0.737). CONCLUSION NAFLD was a significant risk factor for elevated ASCVD risk. NAFLD fibrosis score >0.676 was associated with increased ASCVD risk in individuals with NAFLD. Compared with anthropometric indices, NAFLD fibrosis score demonstrated the best performance in estimating elevated ASCVD risk among those with NAFLD.

Abstract
Traditionally, xenobiotic receptors are known for their role in chemical sensing and detoxification, as receptor activation regulates the expression of various key enzymes and receptors. However, recent studies have highlighted that xenobiotic receptors also play a key role in the regulation of lipid metabolism and therefore function also as metabolic sensors. Since dyslipidemia is a major risk factor for various cardiometabolic diseases, like atherosclerosis and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, it is of major importance to understand the molecular mechanisms that are regulated by xenobiotic receptors. In this review, three major xenobiotic receptors will be discussed, being the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), pregnane X receptor (PXR) and the constitutive androstane receptor (CAR). Specifically, this review will focus on recent insights into the metabolic functions of these receptors, especially in the field of lipid metabolism and the associated dyslipidemia.

Abstract
Plukenetia volubilis Linneo or Sacha Inchi (SI), a traditional natural remedy indigenous to Peru and Brazil, has garnered global attention due to its exceptional nutritional composition. Its protective effects against various non-communicable diseases, notably cardiovascular disease (CVD), have become a subject of interest in recent research. This comprehensive review summarizes the existing evidence from 15 relevant articles concerning the impact of SI on common CVD risk factors, including dyslipidemia, obesity, diabetes, and hypertension. The relevant articles were derived from comprehensive searches on PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science using predefined criteria and keywords related to the topic. Overall, SI demonstrated positive effects in attenuating dyslipidemia, obesity, diabetes, and hypertension. The multifaceted mechanisms responsible for the protective effects of SI against these CVD risk factors are primarily attributed to its antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties. While preclinical studies dominate the current scientific literature on SI, there are limited clinical trials to corroborate these findings. Therefore, future well-designed, large-scale randomized clinical trials are highly recommended to establish the efficacy of SI and determine its optimal dosage, potential drug and food interactions, and practical integration into preventive strategies and dietary interventions for the high-risk populations.

Abstract
The widespread use of immunosuppressive drugs makes it possible to reduce inflammation in autoimmune diseases, as well as prevent transplant rejection in organ recipients. Despite their key action in blocking the body's immune response, these drugs have many side effects. These actions primarily affect the cardiovascular system, and the incidence of complications in patients using immunosuppressive drugs is significant, being associated with a higher incidence of cardiovascular incidents such as myocardial infarction and stroke. This paper analyzes the mechanisms of action of commonly used immunosuppressive drugs and their impact on the cardiovascular system. The adverse effect of immunosuppressive drugs is associated with toxicity within the cardiovascular system, which may be a problem in the clinical management of patients after transplantation. Immunosuppressants act on the cardiovascular system in a variety of ways, including fibrosis and myocardial remodeling, endothelium disfunction, hypertension, atherosclerosis, dyslipidemia or hyperglycaemia, metabolic syndrome, and hyperuricemia. The use of multidrug protocols makes it possible to develop regimens that can reduce the incidence of cardiovascular events. A better understanding of their mechanism of action and the range of complications could enable physicians to select the appropriate therapy for a given patient, as well as to reduce complications and prolong life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Dyslipidemia is a known main risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, and it can be controlled to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular diseases. This meta-analysis aimed to estimate the prevalence of dyslipidemias in the Middle East. METHODS The relevant published articles between 2000 and 2021 that investigated the prevalence of dyslipidaemias in the Middle East were found through international data sources such as Medline, PubMed, and Google Scholar. The random-effects model was used to estimate the pooled prevalence with 95% confidence intervals. RESULTS The pooled prevalence of dyslipidemias, hypertriglyceridemia, hypercholesterolemia, high levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in the Middle East were 54.08% (95% CI: 43.83-66.71), 32.51% (95% CI: 28.59-36.43), 29.44% (95% CI: 18.74-40.13), 32.09% (95% CI: 22.17-42.01), 44.71% (95% CI: 37.86-51.57), respectively. During the last two decades, an increasing trend in the prevalence of dyslipidemias was observed overall and in both sexes. Also, the age groups over 30 significantly had the highest prevalence of hypercholesterolemia, high levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The increasing trend in the prevalence of dyslipidemias during the last two decades is an alarming and significant concern in the Middle East. Therefore, special measures are needed to deal with dyslipidemias as a health priority in the Middle East.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Dyslipidemia is a modifiable major risk factor for coronary heart disease. Although, the prevalence of dyslipidemia in high-income countries has been well documented, there is dearth of information about the dyslipidemia among working adults in sub-Saharan African countries including Ethiopia. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the magnitude of dyslipidemia and its associated factors among Haramaya University employees, in Eastern Ethiopia. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted among 1,200 university employees aged 20 to 60 years. Study participants were selected using a simple random sampling method. Data were collected face-to-face interview using a semi-structured questionnaire. Dyslipidemia was defined as unhealthy levels of one or more lipid profile such as high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, triglycerides or total cholesterol. Data were entered into Epidata version 3.1 and analyzed using STATA version 16.1 software. Modified Poisson regression with robust variance was used to estimate adjusted prevalence ratios (APR) with its 95% confidence intervals. Statistical significance was declared at P-value < 0.05. RESULTS Of 1,164 participants, 59.6% participants had at least one lipid abnormality (i.e., 57.9% among men and 61.5% among women). Of which, 36.8% had high total cholesterol (TC), 21.6% had low high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c), 22.4% had high low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), and 32.6% had high triglyceride (TG). We found that overweight/obesity, sedentary behavior, alcohol consumption, having hypertension and age 45 and above years were significant predictors of dyslipidemia. However, those who served fruit and vegetables more than five per day had significantly reduced prevalence ratio of dyslipidemia. CONCLUSIONS The high prevalent dyslipidemia among university employees is an important public health problem. Hence, tailored interventions to reduce overweight/obesity, hypertension, alcohol consumption and low fruit and vegetable intake have paramount importance to tackle dyslipidemia particularly among older age.
