Abstract
PURPOSE Remnant cholesterol (RC) is the cholesterol content of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins. This study aimed to investigate the association between RC levels and kidney stones in U.S. adults. METHODS Data were obtained from the 2007 to 2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). A total of 10,551 participants with complete data were included and analyzed in this study. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis, restricted cubic spline function, subgroup analysis and mediation analysis were preformed to estimate the independent relationship between RC levels and kidney stones. RESULTS Participants with stone formation had higher levels of RC than those with without stone formation (25.78 ± 13.83 vs 23.27 ± 13.04, p< 0.001). The results of logistic regression analysis and dose-response risk curves revealed a positive nonlinear association between RC levels and risk of kidney stones [univariate: adjusted odds ratio (aOR) =2.388, 95% CI: 1.797-3.173, p< 0.001; multivariate: aOR = 1.424, 95% CI: 1.050-1.929, p = 0.023]. Compared with the discordantly low RC group, the discordantly high RC group was associated with increased risk of kidney stones (aOR = 1.185, 95% CI: 1.013-1.386, p= 0.034). Similar results were demonstrated according to the discordance of different clinical cut points. And metabolic syndrome parameters and vitamin D levels parallelly mediated the association between RC and kidney stone risk. CONCLUSIONS Higher RC levels were independently associated with an increased risk of kidney stone incidence.

Abstract
Introduction This study aimed to investigate the effects of lipemia on clinical chemistry and coagulation parameters in native ultralipemic (NULM) and intravenous lipid emulsion (IVLE) spiked samples. Materials and methods The evaluation of biochemistry (photometric, ion-selective electrode, immunoturbidimetric method), cardiac (electrochemiluminescence immunoassay method) and coagulation (the viscosity-based mechanical method for prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), fibrinogen and the immunoturbidimetric method for D-dimer) parameters were conducted. In addition to the main pools, five pools were prepared for both types of lipemia, each with triglyceride (TG) concentrations of approximately 2.8, 5.7, 11.3, 17.0 and 22.6 mmol/L. All parameters' mean differences (MD%) were presented as interferographs and compared with the desirable specification for the inaccuracy (bias%). Data were also evaluated by repeated measures of ANOVA. Results Prothrombin time and APTT showed no clinically relevant interference in IVLE-added pools but were negatively affected in NULM pools(P < 0.001 in both parameters). For biochemistry, the most striking difference was seen for CRP; it is up to 134 MD% value with NULM (P < 0.001) at the highest TG concentration, whereas it was up to - 2.49 MD% value with IVLE (P = 0.009). Albumin was affected negatively upward of 5.7 mmol/L TG with IVLE, while there was no effect for NULM. Creatinine displayed significant positive interferences with NULM starting at the lowest TG concentration (P = 0.028). There was no clinically relevant interference in cardiac markers for both lipemia types. Conclusions Significant differences were scrutinized in interference patterns of lipemia types, emphasizing the need for careful consideration of lipemia interferences in clinical laboratories. It is crucial to note that lipid emulsions inadequately replicate lipemic samples.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS Pemafibrate is a selective peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α modulator that improves serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in dyslipidemia patients. We previously reported that pemafibrate significantly improves liver function, serum triglyceride (TG) levels and liver stiffness in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease patients, however the influence of alcohol consumption was not considered. Therefore, we explored pemafibrate efficacy in patients with steatotic liver disease (SLD) and alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD). METHODS We retrospectively evaluated pemafibrate efficacy on liver enzymes and lipids in metabolic dysfunction-associated SLD (MASLD) (n = 93), MASLD plus increased alcohol intake (MetALD; n = 23) and ALD (n = 22) patients who had taken pemafibrate for at least 48 weeks. Liver shear wave velocity (SWV, n = 75) was also evaluated. RESULTS In MASLD group, ALT, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), γ-glutamyl transpeptidase (γ-GTP) and TG values were significantly decreased from baseline to week 24 and week 48 ( P < 0.0001). ALT and TG values in MetALD group and ALT and AST values in ALD group were also significantly decreased from baseline to week 24 and week 48. Study participant SWV values decreased from baseline to week 48. We observed no significant difference in changes to ALT, AST, γ-GTP and TG (value at week 24 or week 48 minus value at baseline) among the three groups. CONCLUSION Pemafibrate improves liver function and liver stiffness thus making it a promising therapeutic agent for SLD, even in patients with excess alcohol consumption (MetALD and ALD groups).

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the effect of macronutrient and micronutrient supplementation on body mass index (BMI), hemoglobin (Hb), CD4 count, triglyceride levels, and morbidity among adolescents with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) living in India. METHODS A prospective, randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial was conducted among 80 adolescents (10-19 y) with HIV on highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) for a minimum of 6 mo using simple randomization. Participants in the intervention arm received 400 kcal and 15 g protein as a powder daily and multivitamin tablets thrice weekly for 3 mo. Those in the placebo arm received a similar-appearing sachet containing 100 kcal and 2 g protein daily and a placebo tablet thrice weekly. Weight, height, BMI, Hb, CD4 count, triglycerides, and number of intercurrent illnesses were measured at 3 and 6 mo. RESULTS At 6 mo, the intervention group showed an increase in weight from 36.4 ± 10.9 kg to 39.7 ± 8.5 kg and a significant increase in BMI from 16.6 ± 2.3 kg/m2 to 17.5 ± 2.3 kg/m2. Increase in CD4 count in the placebo arm was more than that in the intervention arm, but the difference between the arms was not statistically significant. Intervention group showed a pronounced rise in Hb from 9.7 ± 2.3 g/dL to 11.4 ± 1.6 g/dL, significant reduction in triglyceride levels from 99.2 ± 92.7 mg/dL to 81.0 ± 12.8 mg/dL and reduction in intercurrent illnesses from 32.5% to none. CONCLUSIONS Nutritional supplementation of adolescents with HIV on HAART improves BMI, hemoglobin, and reduces triglyceride levels and intercurrent illnesses.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Down syndrome (DS) is the most prevalent chromosomal disorder, being the leading cause of intellectual disability. The increased life expectancy of individuals with DS has led to a shift in the incidence of non-communicable chronic diseases, resulting in new concerns, particularly cardiovascular disease (CVD) and Alzheimer's disease. This study aimed to analyse the blood lipid profile of a large DS cohort to establish a baseline for evaluating health risk parameters. METHODS A comprehensive literature search was conducted on PubMed and Virtual Health Library databases to identify original articles published before July 2022. Selected studies were included in the meta-analysis. RESULTS Fifteen studies reporting serum lipid levels in individuals with DS were incorporated into the analysis. The meta-analysis used the means and standard deviations extracted from the selected studies. The analysis encompassed 671 participants in the DS group and 898 euploid controls. The results indicated significant differences in total cholesterol [C] (mean difference [MD]: -3.34; CI: 95%: -4.94 to -1.73; P < 0.0001), HDL-C (MD: -3.39; CI: 95%: -6.72 to -0.06; P = 0.05) and triglycerides (MD: 21.48; CI: 95%: 9.32 to 33.65; P = 0.0005) levels between individuals with DS and their control counterparts. CONCLUSIONS Individuals with DS have less favourable blood lipid concentrations than their controls, particularly HDL-C, triglycerides, and total-C, even when grouped by age. These findings underscore the importance of closer monitoring of lipid profiles in people with DS and the necessity for specific cut-offs for this population, considering the risk for ischemic heart and Alzheimer's diseases.

Abstract
AIMS/HYPOTHESIS The aim of this study was to examine the dose-response associations of device-measured physical activity types and postures (sitting and standing time) with cardiometabolic health. METHODS We conducted an individual participant harmonised meta-analysis of 12,095 adults (mean ± SD age 54.5±9.6 years; female participants 54.8%) from six cohorts with thigh-worn accelerometry data from the Prospective Physical Activity, Sitting and Sleep (ProPASS) Consortium. Associations of daily walking, stair climbing, running, standing and sitting time with a composite cardiometabolic health score (based on standardised z scores) and individual cardiometabolic markers (BMI, waist circumference, triglycerides, HDL-cholesterol, HbA1c and total cholesterol) were examined cross-sectionally using generalised linear modelling and cubic splines. RESULTS We observed more favourable composite cardiometabolic health (i.e. z score <0) with approximately 64 min/day walking (z score [95% CI] -0.14 [-0.25, -0.02]) and 5 min/day stair climbing (-0.14 [-0.24, -0.03]). We observed an equivalent magnitude of association at 2.6 h/day standing. Any amount of running was associated with better composite cardiometabolic health. We did not observe an upper limit to the magnitude of the dose-response associations for any activity type or standing. There was an inverse dose-response association between sitting time and composite cardiometabolic health that became markedly less favourable when daily durations exceeded 12.1 h/day. Associations for sitting time were no longer significant after excluding participants with prevalent CVD or medication use. The dose-response pattern was generally consistent between activity and posture types and individual cardiometabolic health markers. CONCLUSIONS/INTERPRETATION In this first activity type-specific analysis of device-based physical activity, ~64 min/day of walking and ~5.0 min/day of stair climbing were associated with a favourable cardiometabolic risk profile. The deleterious associations of sitting time were fully attenuated after exclusion of participants with prevalent CVD and medication use. Our findings on cardiometabolic health and durations of different activities of daily living and posture may guide future interventions involving lifestyle modification.

Abstract
This study aimed to compare fat accumulation in young and aged mice raised on a high-fat diet and to characterize the obesity-reducing effects of a Kampo medicine, bofutsushosan (BTS; fangfengtongshengsan in Chinese). Aged mice fed a high-fat diet containing 2% BTS extract for 28 days exhibited a significant reduction in weight gain and accumulation of visceral and subcutaneous fat, which were greater degree of reduction than those of the young mice. When the treatment period was extended to two months, the serum aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase levels and the accumulation of fat droplets in the hepatocytes decreased. The mRNA expression of mitochondrial uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) in the brown adipose tissue was significantly reduced in the aged mice compared to the young mice but increased by 2% in the BTS-treated aged mice. Additionally, the effect of BTS extract on oleic acid-albumin-induced triglyceride accumulation in hepatoblastoma-derived HepG2 cells was significantly inhibited in a concentration-dependent manner. Evaluation of the single crude drug extracts revealed that Forsythia Fruit, Schizonepeta Spike, and Rhubarb were the active components in BTS extract. These results suggest that BTS extract is effective against visceral, subcutaneous, and ectopic fats in the liver, which tend to accumulate with aging. Thus, BTS extract is useful in preventing and ameliorating the development of obesity and metabolic syndrome.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) is an independent and casual risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). There is an unmet need for more effective treatments for patients with HTG. Angiopoietin-like protein 3 (ANGPTL3) and apolipoprotein C-III (apoC-III) are key regulators of triglyceride-rich lipoprotein (TRL) metabolism. We review recent clinical trials targeting ANGPTL3 and apoC-III with monoclonal antibody and nucleic acid therapies, including antisense oligonucleotides and small interfering RNA. RECENT FINDINGS ANGPTL3 and apoC-III inhibitors are effective in lowering plasma triglycerides and TRLs, with possibly greater efficacy with the inhibition of apoC-III. By contrast to ANGPTL3 inhibition that has the advantage of greater lowering of plasma low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol and apoB levels, apoC-III inhibition only has a modest or no effect in lowering plasma LDL-cholesterol and apoB concentrations. Therapeutic inhibition of ANGPTL3 and apoC-III can correct HTG possibly by reducing production and increasing catabolism of TRL particles, but this remains to be formally investigated in patients with HTG. SUMMARY Novel agents targeting ANGPTL3 and apoC-III can correct HTG and potentially lower risk of ASCVD in patients with HTG. The long-term safety and cost-effectiveness of these agents await confirmation in ongoing and future studies.

Abstract
This study examined the effects of pemafibrate, a selective peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α agonist, on the serum biochemical parameters of male patients with coronary artery disease and metabolic syndrome (MetS). This was a post hoc analysis of a randomized, crossover study that treated hypertriglyceridemia with pemafibrate or bezafibrate for 24 weeks, followed by a crossover of another 24 weeks. Of the 60 patients enrolled in the study, 55 were male. Forty-one of 55 male patients were found to have MetS. In this sub-analysis, male patients with MetS (MetS group, n = 41) and those without MetS (non-MetS group, n = 14) were compared. The primary endpoint was a change in fasting serum triglyceride (TG) levels during pemafibrate therapy, and the secondary endpoints were changes in insulin resistance-related markers and liver function parameters. Serum TG levels significantly decreased (MetS group, from 266.6 to 148.0 mg/dL, p < 0.001; non-MetS group, from 203.9 to 97.6 mg/dL, p < 0.001); however, a percent change (%Change) was not significantly different between the groups (- 44.1% vs. - 51.6%, p = 0.084). Serum insulin levels and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance significantly decreased in the MetS group but not in the non-MetS group. %Change in liver enzyme levels was markedly decreased in the MetS group compared with that in the non-MetS group (alanine aminotransferase, - 25.1% vs. - 11.3%, p = 0.027; gamma-glutamyl transferase, - 45.8% vs. - 36.2%, p = 0.020). In conclusion, pemafibrate can effectively decrease TG levels in patients with MetS, and it may be a more efficient drug for improving insulin resistance and liver function in such patients.

Abstract
Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) addresses myocardial ischaemia, but a significant subset of patients encounter major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) post-treatment. This meta-analysis investigated the relationship between the post-PCI triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and MACE. Comprehensive searches of the Embase, PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases were conducted up to 3 March 2023, using relevant keywords. The effect size was determined based on I2 statistic using random-effects models. Cluster-robust standard errors crafted the dose-response curve, and the GRADE Evaluation Scale was employed to rate the quality of evidence. The group with the highest TyG index had significantly higher post-PCI MACE rates than the lowest index group, with hazard ratios (HRs) of 2.04 (95% CI 1.65-2.52; I2 = 77%). Each unit increase in TyG index corresponded to HRs of 1.82 for MACE (95% CI 1.34-2.46; I2 = 92%), 2.57 for non-fatal MI (95% CI 1.49-4.41; I2 = 63%), and 2.06 for revascularization (95% CI 1.23-3.50; I2 = 90%). A linear relationship between TyG index and MACE risk was established (R2 = 0.6114). For all-cause mortality, the HR was 1.93 (95% CI 1.35-2.75; I2 = 50%), indicating a higher mortality risk with elevated TyG index. The GRADE assessment yielded high certainty for non-fatal MI but low certainty for all-cause mortality, revascularization, and MACE. The TyG index may predict risks of post-PCI MACE, all-cause mortality, non-fatal MI, and revascularization, with varied levels of certainty. A potential linear association between the TyG index and MACE post-PCI was identified. Future research should validate these findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The relationship between sarcopenia and insulin resistance (IR) has seldom been reported. Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, a new IR indicator, has gained traction as a prognostic tool for many diseases. We aimed to investigate whether the level of TyG index was related to the incidence of sarcopenia. METHOD A total of 1819 participants above 60 without sarcopenia at baseline were included from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). Cox models were applied to evaluate the association between TyG and incident sarcopenia. Mediation analyses were performed to evaluate the contribution of the level of BMI to observed associations. RESULTS During a median follow-up of 4.0 years, 217 (11.9 %) participants developed sarcopenia. The multivariable-adjusted hazard ratios of total sarcopenia in higher quartiles of TyG index versus the lowest quartiles were 0.59, 0.61, and 0.46, respectively. There were significant trends toward a decreasing risk of sarcopenia across the quartiles of TyG index before adjusting for BMI, but no significant association was observed after accounting for BMI. The area under the ROC curve was 0.6281 (0.597-0.660). In subgroup analysis, there was an inverse significant association between TyG index and sarcopenia among male participants. In mediation analyses, BMI explained 88.7 % of the association of TyG index and sarcopenia. CONCLUSIONS Our findings indicated that TyG index was negatively associated with incident sarcopenia in older Chinese without considering BMI adjustment. The association was not more significant after adjusting for BMI. BMI mediated the relationship between sarcopenia and TyG index among older Chinese population. Future study should validate our findings in a larger population.

Abstract
AIMS To examine any potential links between remnant cholesterol (RC) and comorbid chronic kidney disease (CKD) in individuals with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS We used data from 2709 American people aged > 20 years from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) during 2011-2018. Subjects were categorized according to whether they had comorbid CKD. Logistic regression models and smoothed curve fitting methods were employed to assess the association of RC with comorbid CKD in patients with prediabetes and T2DM. RESULTS The 2709 participants included 1473 patients with T2DM and 1236 with prediabetes [impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and impaired fasting glucose (IFG)], of whom 744 (27.46%) had comorbid CKD. In multivariate-adjusted analysis, both RC and triglycerides (TG) were significantly associated with an increased risk of comorbid CKD, and a 1 mmol/L elevation of RC increased the risk by 38.1% [OR (95% CI) 1.636 (1.242, 2.156)], which was higher than the risk associated with a 1 mmol/L increase in TG [1.255 (1.106, 1.424)]. Additionally, those in the highest quartile of RC had a 43.6% higher risk of concomitant renal damage than those in the lowest quartile. RC was linearly and positively associated with the incidence of comorbid CKD in this population. CONCLUSIONS RC is an independent risk factor for comorbid CKD in patients with prediabetes and T2DM. This finding provides a novel insight into the management and early detection of renal disease in patients with impaired glucose metabolism.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Increased waist/hip ratio (WHR) contributes to type 2 diabetes, fatty liver, dyslipidaemia, hypertension and coronary artery disease, with potential sex-differential effects. Postulated mediators include increased lipid flux, branched-chain amino acids, glycine and glycoprotein acetyl, but their relative contributions and sex-specific impact on WHR-associated cardiometabolic disease (CMD) are not established. METHODS We therefore undertook combined and sex-stratified Mendelian randomization (MR) to assess the relative causal contributions of these mediators to WHR-associated CMD using summary statistics from the largest genome-wide association studies in European ancestries. RESULTS In sex-combined MR analyses, increased WHR significantly reduces high-density lipoprotein (beta = -0.416, SE = 0.029, p = 2.87E-47), increases triglyceride (beta = 0.431, SE = 0.029, p = 1.87E-50), type 2 diabetes (odds ratio = 2.747, SE = 0.09, p = 26E-23), coronary artery disease (odds ratio = 1.478, SE = 0.045, p = 6.96E-18), alanine transaminase (beta = 0.062, SE = 0.004, p = 6.88E-67), and systolic (beta = 0.134, SE = 0.022, p = 7.81E-10) and diastolic blood pressure (beta = 0.162, SE = 0.026, p = 5.38E-10). Adjustment for the mediators attenuated WHR's effects, but the associations remained significant with concordant results in females. In males, a similar pattern was seen, except after adjusting for the effect of the ratio of monounsaturated fatty acid to total free fatty acid, the potential causal effect of WHR was no longer significant: high-density lipoprotein (beta = -0.117, SE = 0.069, p = .09) and triglyceride (beta = 0.051, SE = 0.068, p = .459). CONCLUSIONS MR suggests WHR increases the risk of CMD independent of these mediators, with the exception of dyslipidaemia in males, which is largely driven by the monounsaturated fatty acid to total free fatty acid ratio.

Abstract
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been the leading cause of death worldwide. As a chronic inflammatory disease, atherosclerosis (AS) acts as the initiating factor for CVD and reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a vital role in its development. Superoxide dismutases (SOD) can alleviate the detrimental effects of ROS and serve as the first line of defense through detoxifying the products derived from oxidative stress in vivo. Considering the potential preventive effects of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) on AS and the close relationship between CuZn superoxide dismutase (CuZnSOD) and HDL, the present work investigated whether CuZnSOD overexpression in swine could improve the function of HDL. Seven CuZnSOD transgenic swine, constructed by sperm and magnetic nanoparticles, demonstrated overexpressed CuZnSOD in the liver (P < 0.01) but comparable level to control in plasma (P > 0.05). CuZnSOD overexpression significantly down-regulated the levels of triglyceride (TG), apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) (P < 0.05), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (P < 0.01) in plasma. In the presence of CuZnSOD overexpression, HDL3 significantly inhibited levels of IL-6 and TNF-α induced by oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) (P < 0.05), indicating enhanced anti-inflammatory activity of HDL. At the same time, HDL-mediated cholesterol efflux did not decrease (P > 0.05). CuZnSOD overexpression improves the anti-inflammatory function of HDL despite decreased levels of HDL-C. In Conclusion, CuZnSOD overexpression improves HDL function in swine.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to determine whether concentrations of testosterone and its main precursor after menopause, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), are associated with lipoproteins and other lipids in community-dwelling older women. METHODS The Sex Hormones in Older Women (SHOW) study was an observational study of 6358 Australian women, aged at least 70 years, with no prior major adverse cardiovascular event who had sex hormones measured by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Associations between hormones and lipids were examined using multilinear regression adjusted for potential confounders. RESULTS The cross-sectional analyses included 3231 participants, median age 74.0 (interquartile range 71.7-77.9) years. Compared with concentrations in the lowest quartile (Q1), testosterone concentrations in the highest quartiles (Q3 and Q4) were positively associated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (p = 0.002 and p < 0.001, respectively) while Q4 testosterone concentrations were positively associated with total cholesterol (p = 0.038). Q2, Q3 and Q4 testosterone concentrations were significantly inversely associated with triglycerides (TG) (p = 0.024, p = 0.003 and p < 0.001, respectively). For DHEA, Q4 concentrations was positively associated with non-HDL-C (p = 0.024). CONCLUSIONS In older women, higher endogenous testosterone concentrations are significantly associated with higher HDL-C and lower TG, indicating a less atherogenic profile. These findings suggest a neutral, or potentially protective, cardiovascular disease effect of testosterone in older women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to assess the response patterns of circulating lipids to exercise and diet interventions in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). METHODS The 8.6-month four-arm randomized controlled study comprised 115 NAFLD patients with prediabetes who were assigned to aerobic exercise (AEx; n = 29), low-carbohydrate diet (Diet; n = 28), AEx plus low-carbohydrate diet (AED; n = 29), and nonintervention (NI, n = 29) groups. Hepatic fat content (HFC) was quantified by proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Serum lipidomic analytes were measured using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. RESULTS After intervention, the total level of phosphatidylcholine (PC) increased significantly in the AEx group ( P = 0.043), whereas phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) and triacylglycerol decreased significantly in the AED group ( P = 0.046 and P = 0.036, respectively), and phosphatidylserine decreased in the NI group ( P = 0.002). Changes of 21 lipid metabolites were significantly associated with changes of HFC, among which half belonged to PC. Most of the molecules related to insulin sensitivity belonged to sphingomyelin (40 of 79). Controlling for the change of visceral fat, the significant associations between lipid metabolites and HFC remained. In addition, baseline serum lipids could predict the response of HFC to exercise and/or diet interventions (PE15:0/18:0 for AED, area under the curve (AUC) = 0.97; PE22:6(4Z,7Z,10Z,13Z,16Z,19Z)/0:0 for AEx, AUC = 0.90; and PC14:1(9Z)/19:1(9Z) for Diet, AUC = 0.92). CONCLUSIONS Changes of lipidome after exercise and/or diet interventions were associated with HFC reductions, which are independent of visceral fat reduction, particularly in metabolites belonging to PC. Importantly, baseline PE could predict the HFC response to exercise, and PC predicted the response to diet. These results indicate that a circulating metabolomics panel can be used to facilitate clinical implementation of lifestyle interventions for NAFLD management.

Abstract
Several models of mice-fed high-fat diets have been used to trigger non-alcoholic steatohepatitis and some chemical substances, such as carbon tetrachloride. The present study aimed to evaluate the joint action of a high-fat diet and CCl4 in developing a short-term non-alcoholic steatohepatitis model. C57BL6/J mice were divided into two groups: standard diet-fed (SD), the high-fat diet-fed (HFD) and HFD + fructose-fed and carbon tetrachloride (HFD+CCl4). The animals fed with HFD+CCl4 presented increased lipid deposition compared with both SD and HFD mice. Plasma cholesterol was increased in animals from the HFD+CCl4 group compared with the SD and HFD groups, without significant differences between the SD and HFD groups. Plasma triglycerides showed no significant difference between the groups. The HFD+CCl4 animals had increased collagen deposition in the liver compared with both SD and HFD groups. Hydroxyproline was also increased in the HFD+CCl4 group. Liver enzymes, alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase, were increased in the HFD+CCl4 group, compared with SD and HFD groups. Also, CCl4 was able to trigger an inflammatory process in the liver of HFD-fed animals by promoting an increase of ∼2 times in macrophage activity, ∼6 times in F4/80 gene expression, and pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1b and TNFa), in addition to an increase in inflammatory pathway protein phosphorylation (IKKbp). HFD e HFD+CCl4 animals increased glucose intolerance compared with SD mice, associated with reduced insulin-stimulated AKT activity in the liver. Therefore, our study has shown that short-term HFD feeding associated with fructose and CCl4 can trigger non-alcoholic steatohepatitis and cause damage to glucose metabolism.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite abundant evidence on the epidemiological risk factors of metabolic diseases related to hyperuricemia, there is still insufficient evidence regarding the nonlinear relationship between triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and hyperuricemia. Thus, the purpose of this research is to clarify the nonlinear connection between TyG and hyperuricemia. METHODS From 2011 to 2018, a cross-sectional study was carried out using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). This study had 8572 participants in all. TyG was computed as Ln [triglycerides (mg/dL) × fasting glucose (mg/dL)/2]. The outcome variable was hyperuricemia. The association between TyG and hyperuricemia was examined using weighted multiple logistic regression, subgroup analysis, generalized additive models, smooth fitting curves, and two-piecewise linear regression models. RESULTS In the regression model adjusting for all confounding variables, the OR (95% CI) for the association between TyG and hyperuricemia was 2.34 (1.70, 3.21). There is a nonlinear and reverse U-shaped association between TyG and hyperuricemia, with a inflection point of 9.69. The OR (95% CI) before the inflection point was 2.64 (2.12, 3.28), and after the inflection point was 0.32 (0.11, 0.98). The interaction in gender, BMI, hypertension, and diabetes analysis was statistically significant. CONCLUSION Additional prospective studies are required to corroborate the current findings, which indicate a strong positive connection between TyG and hyperuricemia among adults in the United States.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although studies have demonstrated the value of the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cardiovascular mortality, however, few studies have shown that the TyG index is associated with all-cause or CVD mortality in young patients with diabetes. This study aimed to investigate the association between the TyG index and all-cause and CVD mortality in young patients with diabetes in the United States. METHODS Our study recruited 2440 young patients with diabetes from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2001-2018. Mortality outcomes were determined by linking to National Death Index (NDI) records up to December 31, 2019. Cox regression modeling was used to investigate the association between TyG index and mortality in young patients with diabetes. The nonlinear association between TyG index and mortality was analyzed using restricted cubic splines (RCS), and a two-segment Cox proportional risk model was constructed for both sides of the inflection point. RESULTS During a median follow-up period of 8.2 years, 332 deaths from all causes and 82 deaths from cardiovascular disease were observed. Based on the RCS, the TyG index was found to have a U-shaped association with all-cause and CVD mortality in young patients with diabetes, with threshold values of 9.18 and 9.16, respectively. When the TyG index was below the threshold value (TyG index < 9.18 in all-cause mortality and < 9.16 in CVD mortality), its association with all-cause and CVD mortality was not significant. When the TyG index was above the threshold (TyG index ≥ 9.18 in all-cause mortality and ≥ 9.16 in CVD mortality), it showed a significant positive association with all-cause mortality and CVD mortality (HR 1.77, 95% CI 1.05-2.96 for all-cause mortality and HR 2.38, 95% CI 1.05-5.38 for CVD mortality). CONCLUSION Our results suggest a U-shaped association between TyG index and all-cause and CVD mortality among young patients with diabetes in the United States, with threshold values of 9.18 and 9.16 for CVD and all-cause mortality, respectively.

Abstract
Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a lifelong blood disorder affecting approximately 100,000 people in the United States and is one of the most common monogenic diseases. A serious complication of SCD is acute chest syndrome (ACS). ACS is a condition with a high rate of morbidity and mortality. The aim of the study was to assess hemolysis and lipid parameters in a cohort of confirmed SCD patients to predict ACS development in the following year.Standard lipid were performed (triglycerides, total cholesterol, high-density cholesterol, low-density cholesterol) panel to calculate of non-HDL-C, large buoyant LDL cholesterol (lbLDL-C) and small dense LDL cholesterol (sdLDL-C) with Sampson equation. Hemolysis and hematologic parameters were also evaluated.Among 91 patients included between September 2018 and June 2021, thirty-seven patients had history of ACS and 6 patients developed ACS during following year. In unadjusted logistic regression, total bilirubin was associated with ACS occurrence (RR: 1.2 [1.05-1.51] p = 0.013). Concerning lipid profile, non-HDL-C (RR: 0.87 [0.0.67-0.99] p = 0.04) and sdLDL-C (RR: 0.78 [0.49-0.96] p = 0.03) were associated with ACS occurrence decrease. C-reactive protein was associated with ACS occurrence (RR: 1.27 [1.065-1.85] p = 0.011).Based on these findings, this study demonstrated that several biomarker easily available can be used at steady state to predict ACS in the following year. The validation of these results are required to ensure the reproducibility of the findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lipoproteins in cell membranes are related to membrane stability and play a role against microorganisms. Patients with COVID-19 often experience myocyte membrane damage. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to search the relationship of atherogenic indices with myocardial damage and mortality in COVID-19. METHODS This was an observational, single-center, retrospective study. The study population was grouped according to in-hospital mortality. C-reactive protein (CRP), CRP to albumin ratio (CAR), monocyte to high density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (MHR), levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLc), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLc) and cardiac troponin I (cTnI) were recorded. Atherogenic indices (plasma atherogenic index [AIP], atherogenic coefficient [AC], Castelli's risk indices I and II [CRI I and II], triglyceride to HDLc ratio (THR) were calculated. RESULTS A total of 783 patients were included. The mortality rate was 15.45% (n = 121). The median age of non-survivor group (NSG) was higher than survivor group (SG) [66.0 years (Q1 -Q3: 55.0-77.5) vs 54.0 years (Q1 -Q3: 43.0-63.0)] (p < 0.001). Study parameters which were measured significantly higher in the NSG were CRP, cTnI, triglyceride, CRI-I, CRI-II, AC, AIP, ferritin, CAR, MHR and THR. LDLc, HDLc, TC and albumin were significantly lower in NSG (p<0.001). CONCLUSION THR is positively correlated with myocardial damage and strongly predicts in-hospital mortality in COVID-19.

METHOD A total of 986 patients with ACS who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) were included in this analysis. IR was assessed using the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, while coronary artery lesion complexity was evaluated using the SYNTAX score. Pearson's correlation coefficients were utilized to analyze the correlations between variables. The association of the TyG index and SYNTAX score with major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in ACS was investigated using the Kaplan-Meier method, restricted cubic splines (RCS), and adjusted Cox regression. Additionally, a novel 2-stage regression method for survival data was employed in mediation analysis to explore the mediating impact of the SYNTAX score on the association between the TyG index and adverse cardiovascular outcomes, including MACEs and unplanned revascularization. RESULTS During a median follow-up of 30.72 months, 167 cases of MACEs were documented, including 66 all-cause deaths (6.69%), 26 nonfatal myocardial infarctions (MIs) (2.64%), and 99 unplanned revascularizations (10.04%). The incidence of MACEs, all-cause death, and unplanned revascularization increased with elevated TyG index and SYNTAX score. Both the TyG index (non-linear, P = 0.119) and SYNTAX score (non-linear, P = 0.004) displayed a positive dose-response relationship with MACEs, as illustrated by the RCS curve. Following adjustment for multiple factors, both the TyG index and SYNTAX score emerged as significant predictors of MACEs across the total population and various subgroups. Mediation analysis indicated that the SYNTAX score mediated 25.03%, 18.00%, 14.93%, and 11.53% of the correlation between the TyG index and MACEs in different adjusted models, respectively. Similar mediating effects were observed when endpoint was defined as unplanned revascularization. CONCLUSION Elevated baseline TyG index and SYNTAX score were associated with a higher risk of MACEs in ACS. Furthermore, the SYNTAX score partially mediated the relationship between the TyG index and adverse cardiovascular outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a cluster of interconnected risk factors that significantly increase the likelihood of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. Taurine has emerged as a potential therapeutic agent for MetS. This meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) aimed to evaluate the effects of taurine supplementation on MetS-related parameters. METHODS We conducted electronic searches through databases like Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane CENTRAL, and ClinicalTrials.gov, encompassing publications up to December 1, 2023. Our analysis focused on established MetS diagnostic criteria, including systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), fasting blood glucose (FBG), triglyceride (TG), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Meta-regression explored potential dose-dependent relationships based on the total taurine dose administered during the treatment period. We also assessed secondary outcomes like body composition, lipid profile, and glycemic control. RESULTS Our analysis included 1024 participants from 25 RCTs. The daily dosage of taurine in the studies ranged from 0.5 g/day to 6 g/day, with follow-up periods varying between 5 and 365 days. Compared to control groups, taurine supplementation demonstrated statistically significant reductions in SBP (weighted mean difference [WMD] = -3.999 mmHg, 95% confidence interval [CI] = -7.293 to -0.706, p = 0.017), DBP (WMD = -1.509 mmHg, 95% CI = -2.479 to -0.539, p = 0.002), FBG (WMD: -5.882 mg/dL, 95% CI: -10.747 to -1.018, p = 0.018), TG (WMD: -18.315 mg/dL, 95% CI: -25.628 to -11.002, p < 0.001), but not in HDL-C (WMD: 0.644 mg/dl, 95% CI: -0.244 to 1.532, p = 0.155). Meta-regression analysis revealed a dose-dependent reduction in DBP (coefficient = -0.0108 mmHg per g, p = 0.0297) and FBG (coefficient = -0.0445 mg/dL per g, p = 0.0273). No significant adverse effects were observed compared to the control group. CONCLUSION Taurine supplementation exhibits positive effects on multiple MetS-related factors, making it a potential dietary addition for individuals at risk of or already experiencing MetS. Future research may explore dose-optimization strategies and potential long-term benefits of taurine for MetS management.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Although the TyG index is a reliable predictor of insulin resistance (IR) and cardiovascular disease, its effectiveness in predicting major adverse cardiac events in hospitalized acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients has not been validated in large-scale studies. In this study, we aimed to explore the association between the TyG index and the occurrence of MACEs during hospitalization. METHODS We recruited ACS patients from the CCC-ACS (Improving Cardiovascular Care in China-ACS) database and calculated the TyG index using the formula ln(fasting triglyceride [mg/dL] × fasting glucose [mg/dL]/2). These patients were classified into four groups based on quartiles of the TyG index. The primary endpoint was the occurrence of MACEs during hospitalization, encompassing all-cause mortality, cardiac arrest, myocardial infarction (MI), and stroke. We performed Cox proportional hazards regression analysis to clarify the correlation between the TyG index and the risk of in-hospital MACEs among patients diagnosed with ACS. Additionally, we explored this relationship across various subgroups. RESULTS A total of 101,113 patients were ultimately included, and 2759 in-hospital MACEs were recorded, with 1554 (49.1%) cases of all-cause mortality, 601 (21.8%) cases of cardiac arrest, 251 (9.1%) cases of MI, and 353 (12.8%) cases of stroke. After adjusting for confounders, patients in TyG index quartile groups 3 and 4 showed increased risks of in-hospital MACEs compared to those in quartile group 1 [HR = 1.253, 95% CI 1.121-1.400 and HR = 1.604, 95% CI 1.437-1.791, respectively; p value for trend < 0.001], especially in patients with STEMI or renal insufficiency. Moreover, we found interactions between the TyG index and age, sex, diabetes status, renal insufficiency status, and previous PCI (all p values for interactions < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS In patients with ACS, the TyG index was an independent predictor of in-hospital MACEs. Special vigilance should be exercised in females, elderly individuals, and patients with renal insufficiency.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Arterial stiffness (AS) is an important predicting factor for cardiovascular disease. However, no epidemiological studies have ever explored the mediating role of biomarkers in the association between ozone and AS, nor weather fish oil modified such association. METHODS Study participants were drawn from the UK biobank, and a total of 95,699 middle-aged and older adults were included in this study. Ozone was obtained from Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) model matched to residential addresses, fish oil from self-reported intake, and arterial stiffness was based on device measurements. First, we applied a double robust approach to explore the association between ozone or fish oil intake and arterial stiffness, adjusting for potential confounders at the individual and regional levels. Then, how triglycerides, apolipoprotein B (Apo B)/apolipoprotein A (ApoA) and non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (Non-HDL-C) mediate the relationship between ozone and AS. Last, the modifying role of fish oil was further explored by stratified analysis. RESULTS The mean age of participants was 55 years; annual average ozone exposure was associated with ASI (beta:0.189 [95%CI: 0.146 to 0.233], P < 0.001), and compared to participants who did not consume fish oil, fish oil users had a lower ASI (beta: 0.061 [95%CI: -0.111 to -0.010], P = 0.016). The relationship between ozone exposure and AS was mediated by triglycerides, ApoB/ApoA, and Non-HDL-C with mediation proportions ranging from 10.90% to 18.30%. Stratified analysis showed lower estimates on the ozone-AS relationship in fish oil users (P = 0.011). CONCLUSION Ozone exposure was associated with higher levels of arterial stiffness, in contrast to fish oil consumption, which showed a protective association. The association between ozone exposure and arterial stiffness was partially mediated by some biomarkers. In the general population, fish oil consumption might provide protection against ozone-related AS.

Abstract
Asprosin, an adipokine, was recently discovered in 2016. Here, the correlation between asprosin and metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) was examined by quantitatively assessing hepatic steatosis using transient elastography and controlled attenuation parameter (CAP). According to body mass index (BMI), 1276 adult participants were enrolled and categorized into three groups: normal, overweight, and obese. The study collected and evaluated serum asprosin levels, general biochemical indices, liver stiffness measure, and CAP via statistical analysis. In both overweight and obese groups, serum asprosin and CAP were greater than in the normal group (p < 0.01). Each group showed a positive correlation of CAP with asprosin (p < 0.01). The normal group demonstrated a significant and independent positive relationship of CAP with BMI, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), asprosin, waist circumference (WC), and triglycerides (TG; p < 0.05). CAP showed an independent positive association (p < 0.05) with BMI, WC, asprosin, fasting blood glucose (FBG), and TG in the overweight group, and with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) showed an independent negative link (p < 0.01). CAP showed an independent positive relationship (p < 0.05) with BMI, WC, asprosin, TG, LDL-C, FBG, glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), and alanine transferase in the obese group. CAP also showed an independent positive link (p < 0.01) with BMI, WC, asprosin, TG, LDL-C, and FBG in all participants while independently and negatively correlated (p < 0.01) with HDL-C. Since asprosin and MAFLD are closely related and asprosin is an independent CAP effector, it may offer a novel treatment option for metabolic diseases and MAFLD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The influence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) on postpartum cardiometabolic indicators is primarily restricted to glucose and lipid metabolism, however the indicators for liver and kidney function have been rarely explored, and the role of the third-trimester inflammatory factors in these associations has never been investigated. METHODS Based on the Ma'anshan birth cohort (MABC), women with or without GDM history were selected and invited to participate in a 6-year postpartum follow-up. The fasting blood samples were collected to measure 16 comprehensive metabolic indicators during a 6-year postpartum follow-up: fasting plasma glucose (FPG), glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), uric acid (UA), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum creatinine (SCR), etc. Seven inflammatory factors, including TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-10, IL-12p70, and IL-17 A, were measured with serum samples collected during the third trimester of pregnancy. Linear regression models were used to analyze the associations between GDM and 6-year postpartum metabolic indicators, GDM and third-trimester inflammatory factors, and the third-trimester inflammatory factors and 6-year postpartum metabolic indicators. Mediating and moderating effect analyses were further performed to explore if the third-trimester inflammatory factors mediate or modify the association between GDM and postpartum cardiometabolic indicators. RESULTS From July 2021 to August 2022, 307 participants have been followed up, with 99 women with a prior GDM history. Compared with those without GDM, individuals with a prior history of GDM had significantly elevated levels of FPG (β = 0.40, 95% CI: 0.18 to 0.62, PFDR < 0.001), HbA1c (β = 0.22, 95% CI: 0.09 to 0.34, PFDR = 0.009), TyG (β = 0.22, 95% CI: 0.07 to 0.37, PFDR = 0.024) at 6 years postpartum, and the association between GDM and SCR (β = 2.43, 95% CI: 0.02 to 4.85, PFDR = 0.144) reached nominal significance level. GDM history was associated with a decreased level of third-trimester IL-17 A (β = -0.58, 95% CI: -0.99 to -0.18, PFDR = 0.035). No significant association between third-trimester inflammatory factors and 6-year postpartum metabolic indicators was observed. And no mediating or moderating effect of third-trimester inflammatory factors was observed in those associations. CONCLUSION A prior history of GDM was significantly associated with elevated FPG, HbA1c, and TyG in women at 6 years postpartum, whereas third-trimester inflammatory factors had no role in mediating or moderating these associations.

Abstract
Secreted phospholipase A2s are involved in the development of obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and cardiovascular disease, which have become serious and growing health concerns worldwide. Integration of genome-wide association study and gene co-expression networks analysis showed that the secreted phospholipase A2 group XIIA (PLA2G12A) may participate in hepatic lipids metabolism. Nevertheless, the role of PLA2G12A in lipid metabolism and its potential mechanism remain elusive. Here, we used AAV9 vector carrying human PLA2G12A gene to exogenously express hPLA2G12A in the liver of mice. We demonstrated that the overexpression of hPLA2G12A resulted in a significant decrease in serum lipid levels in wild-type mice fed with chow diet or high-fat diet (HFD). Moreover, hPLA2G12A treatment protected against diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance in mice fed a HFD. Notably, we found that hPLA2G12A treatment confers protection against obesity and hyperlipidemia independent of its enzymatic activity, but rather by increasing physical activity and energy expenditure. Furthermore, we demonstrated that hPLA2G12A treatment induced upregulation of ApoC2 and Cd36 and downregulation of Angptl8, which contributed to the increase in clearance of circulating triglycerides and hepatic uptake of fatty acids without affecting hepatic de novo lipogenesis, very low-density lipoprotein secretion, or intestinal lipid absorption. Our study highlights the potential of PLA2G12A gene therapy as a promising approach for treating obesity, insulin resistance and T2DM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS Lipid profiles have been changed in numerous chronic conditions. The impact of uveitis on lipid metabolism remains unclear. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study included 416 patients with non-infectious uveitis (NIU) and 416 healthy subjects. Standard techniques were used to measure total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDLc), low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDLc) levels. Quantitative optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) parameters were obtained from 500 eyes in each group. Correlation analysis examined the relationship between lipid profile and OCTA parameters. RESULTS Patients with NIU exhibited significantly elevated TC, TG and LDLc levels compared with controls (p=0.003; p<0.001; p<0.001, respectively). Subgroup analysis revealed that HDLc was significantly lower in Behçet's disease (p=0.024) compared with controls. Vascular density (VD) in the superficial capillary plexus (SCP), deep capillary plexus (DCP), choriocapillaris and optic disk were significantly decreased in NIU eyes (p<0.05, respectively) compared with controls. HDLc exhibited a significant negative correlation with VDs in the whole and parafovea SCP (r=-0.489, p=0.008; r=-0.480, p=0.0026, respectively), while LDLc showed a significant positive correlation with VDs in the whole and parafovea DCP in NIU patients (r=0.576, p=0.032; r=0.267, p=0.034, respectively). CONCLUSIONS The lipid profile is altered in NIU, and there are correlations between HDLc and LDLc levels and VD as measured by OCTA. Lipid profile analysis may offer valuable insights into evaluating vascular and metabolic aspects of NIU.

Abstract
There is a phenotype of obese individuals termed metabolically healthy obese that present a reduced cardiometabolic risk. This phenotype offers a valuable model for investigating the mechanisms connecting obesity and metabolic alterations such as Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Previously, in an untargeted metabolomics analysis in a cohort of morbidly obese women, we observed a different lipid metabolite pattern between metabolically healthy morbid obese individuals and those with associated T2DM. To validate these findings, we have performed a complementary study of lipidomics. In this study, we assessed a liquid chromatography coupled to a mass spectrometer untargeted lipidomic analysis on serum samples from 209 women, 73 normal-weight women (control group) and 136 morbid obese women. From those, 65 metabolically healthy morbid obese and 71 with associated T2DM. In this work, we find elevated levels of ceramides, sphingomyelins, diacyl and triacylglycerols, fatty acids, and phosphoethanolamines in morbid obese vs normal weight. Conversely, decreased levels of acylcarnitines, bile acids, lyso-phosphatidylcholines, phosphatidylcholines (PC), phosphatidylinositols, and phosphoethanolamine PE (O-38:4) were noted. Furthermore, comparing morbid obese women with T2DM vs metabolically healthy MO, a distinct lipid profile emerged, featuring increased levels of metabolites: deoxycholic acid, diacylglycerol DG (36:2), triacylglycerols, phosphatidylcholines, phosphoethanolamines, phosphatidylinositols, and lyso-phosphatidylinositol LPI (16:0). To conclude, analysing both comparatives, we observed decreased levels of deoxycholic acid, PC (34:3), and PE (O-38:4) in morbid obese women vs normal-weight. Conversely, we found elevated levels of these lipids in morbid obese women with T2DM vs metabolically healthy MO. These profiles of metabolites could be explored for the research as potential markers of metabolic risk of T2DM in morbid obese women.

Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of phytosterols (PS) and phytosterol esters (PSE) on C57BL/6 mice. Three groups of 34 six-week-old C57BL/6 mice of specific pathogen free (SPF) grade, with an average initial body weight (IBW) of 17.7g, were fed for 24 days either natural-ingredient diets without supplements or diets supplemented with 89 mg/kg PS or diets supplemented with 400 mg/kg PSE. Growth performance, blood biochemistry, liver and colon morphology as well as intestinal flora status were evaluated. Both PS and PSE exhibited growth promotion and feed digestibility in mice. In blood biochemistry, the addition of both PS and PSE to the diet resulted in a significant decrease in Total Cholesterol (TC) and Triglyceride (TG) levels and an increase in Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) activity. No significant changes in liver and intestinal morphology were observed. Both increased the level of Akkermansia in the intestinal tract of mice. There was no significant difference between the effects of PS and PSE. It was concluded that dietary PS and PSE supplementation could improve growth performance, immune performance and gut microbiome structure in mice, providing insights into its application as a potential feed additive in animals production.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The relationship between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the U.S. population under 65 years of age with diabetes or prediabetes is unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between baseline TyG index and CVD risk in U.S. patients under 65 years of age with diabetes or prediabetes. METHODS We used data from the 2003-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Multivariate regression analysis models were constructed to explore the relationship between baseline TyG index and CVD risk. Nonlinear correlations were explored using restricted cubic splines. Subgroup analysis and interaction tests were also conducted. RESULTS The study enrolled a total of 4340 participants with diabetes or pre-diabetes, with a mean TyG index of 9.02 ± 0.02. The overall average prevalence of CVD was 10.38%. Participants in the higher TyG quartiles showed high rates of CVD (Quartile 1: 7.35%; Quartile 2: 10.04%; Quartile 3: 10.71%; Quartile 4: 13.65%). For CVD, a possible association between the TyG index and the risk of CVD was observed. Our findings suggested a linear association between the TyG index and the risk of CVD. The results revealed a U-shaped relationship between the TyG index and both the risk of CVD (P nonlinear = 0.02583) and CHF (P nonlinear = 0.0208) in individuals with diabetes. Subgroup analysis and the interaction term indicated that there was no significant difference among different stratifications. Our study also revealed a positive association between the TyG index and comorbid MetS in the U.S. population under 65 years of age with prediabetes or diabetes. CONCLUSIONS A higher TyG index was linked to an increased likelihood of CVD in the U.S. population aged ≤ 65 years with prediabetes and diabetes. Besides, TyG index assessment will contribute to more convenient and effective screening of high-risk individuals in patients with MetS. Future studies should explore whether interventions targeting the TyG index may improve clinical outcomes in these patients.

Abstract
This study evaluated the association of atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) with platelet reactivity and clinical outcomes according to acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The composite of 3-year adverse outcomes of all-cause death, myocardial infarction, and cerebrovascular accident was evaluated in 10,735 patients after successful percutaneous coronary intervention with drug-eluting stents. AIP was defined as the base 10 logarithm of the ratio of triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentration. High platelet reactivity (HPR) was defined as ≥ 252 P2Y12 reactivity unit. An increase of AIP (per-0.1 unit) was related to the decreased risk of HPR [odds ratio (OR) 0.97, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.96-0.99; P = 0.001] in non-AMI patients, not in AMI patients (OR 0.98, 95% CI 0.96-1.01; P = 0.138). The HPR was associated with the increased risk of composite outcomes in both non-AMI and AMI patients (all-P < 0.05). AIP levels were not independently associated with the risk of composite outcomes in both patients with non-AMI and AMI. In conclusion, an inverse association between AIP and the risk of HPR was observed in patients with non-AMI. This suggests that the association between plasma atherogenicity and platelet reactivity may play a substantial role in the development of AMI.Trial registration: NCT04734028.

BACKGROUND A number of biomarkers denoting various pathophysiological pathways have been implicated in the aetiology and risk of age-related diseases. Hence, the combined impact of multiple biomarkers in relation to ageing free of major chronic diseases, such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes, has not been sufficiently explored. METHODS We measured concentrations of 13 biomarkers in a random subcohort of 2,500 participants in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition Potsdam study. Chronic disease-free ageing was defined as reaching the age of 70 years within study follow-up without major chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes or cancer. Using a novel machine-learning technique, we aimed to identify biomarker clusters and explore their association with chronic disease-free ageing in multivariable-adjusted logistic regression analysis taking socio-demographic, lifestyle and anthropometric factors into account. RESULTS Of the participants who reached the age of 70 years, 321 met our criteria for chronic-disease free ageing. Machine learning analysis identified three distinct biomarker clusters, among which a signature characterised by high concentrations of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, adiponectin and insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 2 and low concentrations of triglycerides was associated with highest odds for ageing free of major chronic diseases. After multivariable adjustment, the association was attenuated by socio-demographic, lifestyle and adiposity indicators, pointing to the relative importance of these factors as determinants of healthy ageing. CONCLUSION These data underline the importance of exploring combinations of biomarkers rather than single molecules in understanding complex biological pathways underpinning healthy ageing.

Abstract
Lanifibranor, a pan-PPAR agonist, improves liver histology in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), who have poor cardiometabolic health (CMH) and cardiovascular events as major mortality cause. NATIVE trial secondary and exploratory outcomes (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT03008070) were analyzed for the effect of lanifibranor on IR, lipid and glucose metabolism, systemic inflammation, blood pressure (BP), hepatic steatosis (imaging and histological grading) for all patients of the original analysis. With lanifibranor, triglycerides, HDL-C, apolipoproteins, insulin, HOMA-IR, HbA1c, fasting glucose (FG), hs-CRP, ferritin, diastolic BP and steatosis improved significantly, independent of diabetes status: most patients with prediabetes returned to normal FG levels. Significant adiponectin increases correlated with hepatic and CMH marker improvement; patients had an average weight gain of 2.5 kg, with 49% gaining ≥2.5% weight. Therapeutic benefits were similar regardless of weight change. Here, we show that effects of lanifibranor on liver histology in MASH are accompanied with CMH improvement, indicative of potential cardiovascular clinical benefits.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Body mass index (BMI) and lipid disorders are both known to be strongly associated with the development of diabetes, however, the indirect effect of lipid parameters in the BMI-related diabetes risk is currently unknown. This study aimed to investigate the mediating role of lipid parameters in the association of BMI with diabetes risk. METHODS We assessed the association of diabetes risk with BMI, as well as lipid parameters including high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-CF and LDL-CS), triglycerides(TG), total cholesterol(TC), remnant cholesterol(RC), non-HDL-C, and combined indices of lipid parameters with HDL-C (RC/HDL-C ratio, TG/HDL-C ratio, TC/HDL-C ratio, non-HDL/HDL-C ratio, LDL/HDL-C ratio) using data from 15,453 subjects in the NAGALA project. Mediation models were used to explore the mediating role of lipid parameters in the association of BMI with diabetes risk, and mediation percentages were calculated for quantifying the strength of the indirect effects. Finally, receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis was used to compare the accuracy of BMI and BMI combined with lipid parameters in predicting incident diabetes. RESULTS Multivariate regression models, adjusted for confounding factors, demonstrated robust associations of lipid parameters, BMI, with diabetes risk, with the exception of TC, LDL-CF, LDL-CS, and non-HDL-C. Mediation analysis showed that lipid parameters except TC, LDL-CF, LDL-CS, and Non-HDL-C were involved in and mediated the association of BMI with diabetes risk, with the largest mediation percentage being the RC/HDL-C ratio, which was as high as 40%; it is worth mentioning that HDL-C and HDL-C-related lipid ratio parameters also play an important mediating role in the association between BMI and diabetes, with the mediator proportion being greater than 30%. Finally, based on the ROC results, we found that the prediction performance of all lipid parameters in the current study except TC was significantly improved when combined with BMI. CONCLUSION Our fresh findings suggested that lipid parameters partially mediated the association of BMI with diabetes risk; this result indicated that in the context of diabetes risk screening and disease management, it is important to not only monitor BMI but also pay attention to lipid parameters, particularly HDL-C and HDL-C-related lipid ratio parameters.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Alcohol consumption by children and adolescents is receiving increasing attention. It may cause dyslipidemia, a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. However, the association between alcohol consumption and blood lipids in children and adolescents is unclear, and so we aimed to characterize this association. METHODS Data from the China Health and Nutrition Survey were extracted from children and adolescents aged 7-18 years for whom information was available on alcohol consumption. The population was divided into drinking and nondrinking groups. The χ2, Student's t, or Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare groups. Univariate and multivariate linear regression and propensity score matching (PSM) analysis were used to identify the association between alcohol consumption and blood lipids. RESULTS This study included 408 children and adolescents with 35 drinkers and 373 nondrinkers. The drinkers had significantly lower values of total cholesterol (TC) (3.8 mmol/L for nondrinkers versus 3.5 mmol/L for drinkers, p = 0.002) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (1.3 mmol/L for nondrinkers versus 1.2 mmol/L for drinkers, p = 0.007), but not for low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (2.1 mmol/L for nondrinkers versus 2.0 mmol/L for drinkers, p = 0.092) or triglyceride (TG) (0.9 mmol/L for nondrinkers versus 0.8 mmol/L for drinkers, p = 0.21). The univariate and multivariate analyses led to the same conclusions. After PSM there was still a significant negative association between alcohol consumption and TC or HDL-C. CONCLUSION Alcohol consumption in children and adolescents exhibited significant negative associated with TC and HDL-C, but not with LDL-C or TG. These findings need to be confirmed in future prospective research, and the health effects of blood lipid changes caused by drinking in children and adolescents need to be clarified.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI) is recognized as a reliable surrogate for evaluating insulin resistance and an effective predictor of cardiovascular disease. However, the link between TyG-BMI index and adverse outcomes in heart failure (HF) patients remains unclear. This study examines the correlation of the TyG-BMI index with long-term adverse outcomes in HF patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). METHODS This single-center, prospective cohort study included 823 HF patients with CHD. The TyG-BMI index was calculated as follows: ln [fasting triglyceride (mg/dL) × fasting blood glucose (mg/dL)/2] × BMI. To explore the association between the TyG-BMI index and the occurrences of all-cause mortality and HF rehospitalization, we utilized multivariate Cox regression models and restricted cubic splines with threshold analysis. RESULTS Over a follow-up period of 9.4 years, 425 patients died, and 484 were rehospitalized due to HF. Threshold analysis revealed a significant reverse "J"-shaped relationship between the TyG-BMI index and all-cause mortality, indicating a decreased risk of all-cause mortality with higher TyG-BMI index values below 240.0 (adjusted model: HR 0.90, 95% CI 0.86-0.93; Log-likelihood ratio p = 0.003). A distinct "U"-shaped nonlinear relationship was observed with HF rehospitalization, with the inflection point at 228.56 (adjusted model: below: HR 0.95, 95% CI 0.91-0.98; above: HR 1.08, 95% CI 1.03-1.13; Log-likelihood ratio p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS This study reveals a nonlinear association between the TyG-BMI index and both all-cause mortality and HF rehospitalization in HF patients with CHD, positioning the TyG-BMI index as a significant prognostic marker in this population.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study investigated the changes in the fasting blood glucose (FBG), fasting triglyceride (FTG), and fasting total cholesterol (FTC) levels during neoadjuvant therapy (NAT) for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive breast cancer (BC) and the association with pathologic complete response (pCR). METHODS Relevant data from Sichuan Cancer Hospital from June 2019 to June 2022 were collected and analyzed, and FBG, FTG, and FTC were divided into baseline, change, and process groups, which were grouped to analyze the changes after receiving NAT and the association with pCR. RESULTS In the estrogen receptor (ER)-negative subgroup, patients with low levels of FTG in the process group were more likely to achieve pCR compared to high levels, and in the progesterone receptor (PR)-negative subgroup, patients with lower FTG compared to higher FTG after receiving NAT was more likely to achieve pCR. CONCLUSIONS Patients with HER2-positive BC undergoing NAT develop varying degrees of abnormalities (elevated or decreased) in FBG, FTG, and FTC; moreover, the status of FTG levels during NAT may predict pCR in ER-negative or PR-negative HER2-positive BC.Early monitoring and timely intervention for FTG abnormalities may enable this subset of patients to increase the likelihood of obtaining a pCR along with management of abnormal markers.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Dyslipidemia is a common public health problem in people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) who are receiving antiretroviral therapy and increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. Although evidence indicates that the prevalence of dyslipidemia is high, estimated pooled data are not well documented. Therefore, we aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence of dyslipidemia in adult people living with HIV receiving antiretroviral therapy in Ethiopia. METHOD We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature. The following databases and grey literature were searched: PubMed, WorldCat, ScienceDirect, DOAG, African Journals Online, Google Scholar, and African Index Medicine. We included all comparative epidemiological studies that reported the prevalence of high concentration of total cholesterol, triglycerides, and low density lipoprotein, and low concentration of high density lipoprotein cholesterol that were published between January 2003 and July 2023. The random effects model was used to pool the outcome of interest. Additionally, subgrouping, sensitivity analyses, and funnel plots were performed. R software Version 4.2.1 was used for statistical analysis. RESULT Seventeen studies with a total of 3929 participants were included in the meta-analysis. The pooled prevalence of dyslipidemia, high total cholesterol, high triglyceride, elevated level of low density lipoprotein and low level of high density lipoprotein cholesterol were 69.32% (95% CI: 63.33, 74.72), 39.78% (95%CI: 32.12, 47.96), 40.32% (95%CI: 34.56, 46.36), 28.58% (95%CI: 21.81, 36.46), and 36.17% (95%CI: 28.82, 44.24), respectively. Age and body mass index were associated with high total cholesterol, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. CONCLUSION The authors concluded that the prevalence of dyslipidemia in Ethiopia is high in people living with HIV receiving antiretroviral therapy. Early detection of dyslipidemia and its integration into treatment are essential for preventing cardiovascular disease. TRIAL REGISTRATION Protocol registered with PROSPERO (CRD42023440125).

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Exposure to cigarette smoke introduces a large amount of nicotine into the bloodstream through the lungs. So, smoking can be a risk factor for many diseases. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of active and passive cigarette smoke on the blood lipid profile and dyslipidemia. METHODS This cross-sectional study was performed on 5052 individuals who participated in the recruitment phase of the Shahedieh cohort study. A logistic regression model was used to investigate the relationship between smoking exposure status and lipid profiles. RESULTS The prevalence of abnormal low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), abnormal HDL-C, abnormal total cholesterol (TC), abnormal triglyceride (TG), and dyslipidemia were 254 (5.00%), 562 (11.10%), 470 (9.30%), 1008 (20.00%), and 1527 (30.20%), respectively. Adjusting for confounders, it was observed that current smokers had higher odds of having abnormal HDL-C [OR (95% CI), 2.90 (2.28-3.69)], abnormal TG [OR (95% CI), 1.71 (1.38-2.13)] and dyslipidemia [OR (95% CI), 1.86 (1.53-2.25)]. Ex-smokers also had greater odds of abnormal HDL-C [OR (95% CI), 1.51 (1.06-2.16)] compared to non-smokers who were not exposed to cigarette smoke. CONCLUSIONS The findings indicated that current smokers had higher TG and lower HDL. So, necessary measures should be taken to reduce smoking. The findings also showed that the prevalence of abnormal TG and HDL in ex-smokers was lower than in current smokers. Therefore, the existence of incentive policies to quit smoking seems necessary.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Both the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, as a surrogate marker of insulin resistance, and systemic inflammation are predictors of cardiovascular diseases; however, little is known about the coexposures and relative contributions of TyG index and inflammation to cardiovascular diseases. Using the nationally representative data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), we conducted longitudinal analyses to evaluate the joint and mutual associations of the TyG index and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) with cardiovascular events in middle-aged and older Chinese population. METHODS This study comprised 8 658 participants aged at least 45 years from the CHARLS 2011 who are free of cardiovascular diseases at baseline. The TyG index was calculated as Ln [fasting triglyceride (mg/dL) × fasting glucose (mg/dL)/2]. Cardiovascular events were defined as the presence of physician-diagnosed heart disease and/or stroke followed until 2018.We performed adjusted Cox proportional hazards regression and mediation analyses. RESULTS The mean age of the participants was 58.6 ± 9.0 years, and 3988 (46.1%) were females. During a maximum follow-up of 7.0 years, 2606 (30.1%) people developed cardiovascular diseases, including 2012 (23.2%) cases of heart diseases and 848 (9.8%) cases of stroke. Compared with people with a lower TyG index (< 8.6 [median level]) and hsCRP < 1 mg/L, those concurrently with a higher TyG and hsCRP had the highest risk of overall cardiovascular disease (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR], 1.300; 95% CI 1.155-1.462), coronary heart disease (aHR, 1.294; 95% CI 1.130-1.481) and stroke (aHR, 1.333; 95% CI 1.093-1.628), which were predominant among those aged 70 years or below. High hsCRP significantly mediated 13.4% of the association between the TyG index and cardiovascular disease, while TyG simultaneously mediated 7.9% of the association between hsCRP and cardiovascular risk. CONCLUSIONS The findings highlight the coexposure effects and mutual mediation between the TyG index and hsCRP on cardiovascular diseases. Joint assessments of the TyG index and hsCRP should be underlined for the residual risk stratification and primary prevention of cardiovascular diseases, especially for middle-aged adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Remnant cholesterol (RC) and nonhigh-density lipoprotein cholesterol (nonHDL-C) are key risk factors for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), with apolipoprotein B (apoB) and lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] also contributing to its residual risk. However, real-world population-based evidence regarding the impact of current clinical LDL-C-centric lipid-lowering therapy (LLT) on achieving RC and nonHDL-C goals, as well as on modifying residual CVD risk factors is limited. METHODS This prospective observational study enrolled 897 CVD patients from September, 2020 to July, 2021. All participants had previously received low-/moderate-intensity LLT and were discharged with either low-/moderate-intensity LLT or high-intensity LLT. After a median follow-up of 3 months, changes in RC, nonHDL-C, and other biomarkers were assessed. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to analyze the impact of the LLT on goal attainment. RESULTS Among all patients, 83.50% transitioned to high-intensity LLT from low or moderate. After follow-up, the high-intensity group saw significantly greater reductions in RC (-20.51% vs. -3.90%, P = 0.025), nonHDL-C (-25.12% vs. 0.00%, P < 0.001), apoB (-19.35% vs. -3.17%, P < 0.001), triglycerides (-17.82% vs. -6.62%, P < 0.001), and LDL-C and total cholesterol. Spearman correlation analysis revealed that LDL-C reduction from current LLT was strongly correlated with nonHDL-C reduction (r = 0.87, P < 0.001). Patients who received high-intensity LLT had significant improvements in attainment of RC (from 44.2% to 60.7%, χ² = 39.23, P < 0.001) and nonHDL-C (from 19.4% to 56.9%, χ² = 226.06, P < 0.001) goals. Furthermore, multivariate logistic regression showed that high-intensity LLT was a protective factor for RC [odds ratio (OR) = 0.66; 95% confidence intervals (CI), 0.45-0.97; P = 0.033] and nonHDL-C goal attainment (OR = 0.51; 95% CI, 0.34-0.75; P < 0.001), without a significant increase of adverse reactions. CONCLUSION Current levels of clinically prescribed LDL-C-centric treatment can reduce RC and other lipid-related residual risk factors, but high-intensity LLT is better at achieving nonHDL-C and RC goals than low-/moderate-intensity LLT, with a good safety profile. More targeted RC treatments are still needed to reduce residual lipid risk further.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The association between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and subclinical left ventricular (LV) systolic dysfunction in obese patients remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the TyG index and LV global longitudinal strain (GLS) in obese patients. METHODS A total of 1028 obese patients from January 2019 to January 2024 were included in the present study. Clinical parameters and biochemical and echocardiographic data were obtained from the participants. LV GLS was obtained from the GE EchoPAC workstation for evaluating subclinical LV function. The TyG index was calculated as Ln (fasting TG [mg/dL] × fasting glucose [mg/dL]/2). LV GLS was compared between obese patients with a high TyG index and those with a low TyG index. RESULTS Obese patients with a high TyG index had greater incidences of hypertension, diabetes mellitus and hyperlipidaemia. The LV GLS was significantly lower in the high TyG index group than in the low TyG index group (P = 0.01). After adjusting for sex, age, body mass index, heart rate, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidaemia, blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine, LV mass and LV hypertrophy, the TyG index remained an independent risk indicator related to an LV GLS < 20% (OR: 1.520, 95% CI: 1.040 to 2.221; P = 0.031). CONCLUSIONS We concluded that an increase in the TyG index is independently associated with subclinical LV systolic dysfunction in obese patients.

Abstract
Objective To compare the concentration of Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL-c) obtained using the Friedewald formula with those obtained directly with the RAYTO CHEMRAY 120 autoanalyzer. Methods Cross-sectional study. We evaluated outpatients with a medical request for a lipid profile study (total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, and HDL). The analyses were carried out in a RAYTO CHEMRAY 120 autoanalyzer under the principle of spectrophotometry. We obtained LDL-c using the Friedewald and Vujovic formulas. Results We evaluated 199 individuals whose direct LDL concentration averages were measured by the RAYTO CHEMRAY 120 equipment. Those calculated by the Friedewald and Vujovic formulas were 129.97 ± 32.66, 119.28 ± 30.44, and 127.01 ± 32.01, respectively, and in all cases, significant differences (P < 0.001) were observed with the RAYTO analyzer. In both cases a low positive bias was found with the RAYTO analyzer.. The Passing-Bablok and Deming's regressions showed a linear correlation between both methods (Friedewald and Vujovic) with the LDL values obtained with the Rayto autoanalyzer. Conclusions Our study found that the Friedewald and Vujovic methods are good predictors of LDL cholesterol levels and have a low level of bias. Therefore, they could be used as potential predictors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study investigates the causal relationship between lipid traits and GDM in an effort to better understand the aetiology of GDM. METHODS Employing a two-sample Mendelian Randomization (MR) framework, we used Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) as instrumental variables to examine the impact of lipids and apolipoproteins on GDM. The research comprised univariable and multivariable MR analyses, with a prime focus on individual and combined effects of lipid-related traits. Statistical techniques included the fixed-effect inverse variance weighted (IVW) method and supplementary methods such as MR-Egger for comprehensive assessment. RESULTS Our findings revealed the following significant associations: apoA-I and HDL cholesterol were inversely correlated with GDM risk, while triglycerides showed a positive correlation. In multivariable analysis, apoA-I consistently exhibited a strong causal link with GDM, even after adjusting for other lipids and Body Mass Index (BMI). CONCLUSION The study demonstrates a significant causal relationship between apoA-I and GDM risk.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Certain studies have indicated a link between obstructive sleep apnea and insulin resistance in specific populations. To gain more clarity, extensive research involving a broad sample of the overall population is essential. The primary objective of this study was to investigate this correlation by utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey database. METHODS The analysis incorporated data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey database spanning the time periods from 2005 to 2008 and from 2015 to 2018, with a focus on American adults aged 18 years and older after applying weight adjustments. Key variables such as obstructive sleep apnea, triglyceride glucose index, and various confounding factors were considered. A generalized linear logistic regression model was used to investigate the association between obstructive sleep apnea and the triglyceride glucose index, with additional exploration of the consistency of the results through hierarchical analysis and other techniques. RESULTS The study included participants aged between 18 and 90 years, with an average age of 46.75 years. Among the total sample, 50.76% were male. The triglyceride glucose index demonstrated a diagnostic capability for obstructive sleep apnea, with an AUC of 0.701 (95% CI: 0.6619-0.688). According to the fully adjusted model, individuals in the fourth quartile of the triglyceride glucose index showed an increased likelihood of having obstructive sleep apnea compared to those in the first quartile (OR: 1.45; 95% CI: 1.02-2.06; P < 0.05). Subgroup analysis indicated that male sex (OR: 2.09; 95% CI: 1.76-2.45; P < 0.05), younger age (OR: 2.83; 95% CI: 2.02-3.96; P < 0.05), white ethnicity (OR: 2.29; 95% CI: 1.93-2.73; P < 0.05), and obesity (OR: 1.54; 95% CI: 1.28-1.85; P < 0.05) were correlated with an elevated risk of OSA. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated a strong association between an elevated TG index and OSA. Additionally, the triglyceride glucose index could serve as an independent predictor of obstructive sleep apnea.

Abstract
Diabetic individuals with diabetic cardiomyopathy (DbCM) present with abnormal myocardial structure and function. DbCM cannot be accurately diagnosed due to the lack of suitable diagnostic biomarkers. In this study, 171 eligible participants were divided into a healthy control (HC), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients without DbCM (T2DM), or DbCM group. Serum fibrinogen-like protein 1 (FGL-1) and other biochemical parameters were determined for all participants. Serum FGL-1 levels were significantly higher in patients with DbCM compared with those in the T2DM group and HCs. Serum FGL-1 levels were negatively correlated with left ventricular fractional shortening and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and positively correlated with left ventricular mass index in patients with DbCM after adjusting for age, sex and body mass index. Interaction of serum FGL-1 and triglyceride levels on LVEF was noted in patients with DbCM. A composite marker including serum FGL-1 and triglycerides could differentiate patients with DbCM from those with T2DM and HCs with an area under the curve of 0.773 and 0.789, respectively. Composite marker levels were negatively correlated with N-terminal B-type natriuretic peptide levels in patients with DbCM. Circulating FGL-1 may therefore be a valuable index reflecting cardiac functions in DbCM and to diagnose DbCM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Inflammation and obesity are the risk factors for hyperlipidaemia. Nonetheless, research regarding the association between dietary live microbes intake and hyperlipidaemia is lacking. Therefore, this study focused on revealing the relationship between them and mediating roles of inflammation and obesity. METHODS Totally 16,677 subjects were enrolled from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) (1999-2010 and 2015-2020). To explore the correlation between live microbes and hyperlipidaemia as well as blood lipid levels, respectively, multiple logistic regression and linear regression were employed. Furthermore, the mediating roles of body mass index (BMI), C-reactive protein (Crp) and their chain effect were explored through mediating analysis. RESULTS High dietary live microbes intake was the protective factor for hyperlipidaemia. In addition, high dietary live microbes intake exhibited a positive relationship to the high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) among males (β = 2.52, 95% CI: 1.29, 3.76, P < 0.0001) and females (β = 2.22, 95% CI: 1.05, 3.38, P < 0.001), but exhibited a negative correlation with triglyceride (TG) levels in males (β = -7.37, 95% CI: -13.16, -1.59, P = 0.02) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels in females (β = -2.75, 95% CI: -5.28, -0.21, P = 0.02). Crp, BMI and their chain effect mediated the relationship between live microbes with HDL-C levels. Moreover, BMI and the chain effect mediated the relationship between live microbes with LDL-C levels. CONCLUSION Dietary live microbes intake is related to a lower hyperlipidaemia risk. Crp, BMI and their chain effect make a mediating impact on the relationship.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Insulin resistance (IR) can lead to cellular metabolic disorders, activation of oxidative stress, and endothelial dysfunction, contributing to in-stent restenosis (ISR). The triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index), a new indicator reflecting IR, is extensively researched in the cardiovascular field. This study, through a meta-analysis, aimed to utilize a larger combined sample size and thereby enhance the overall test efficacy to explore the TyG index-ISR relationship. METHODS A thorough search was conducted in the PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases to find original papers and their references published between 1990 and January 2024. This search included both prospective and retrospective studies detailing the correlation between the TyG index and ISR in individuals with coronary heart disease (CHD). OUTCOMES The five included articles comprised 3,912 participants, and the odds ratio (OR) extracted from each study was combined using the Inverse Variance method. Results showed that, in the context of CHD patients, each incremental unit in the TyG index, when treated as a continuous variable, corresponded to a 42% elevation in ISR risk (95% CI 1.26-1.59, I²=13%, p < 0.005). When analyzing the TyG index categorically, the results revealed a higher ISR risk in the highest TyG index group compared to the lowest group (OR: 1.69, 95% CI 1.32-2.17, I²=0). Additionally, in patients with chronic coronary syndrome (CCS), each unit increase in the TyG index, the risk of ISR in patients increased by 37% (95% CI 1.19-1.57, I²=0%, p < 0.005). This correlation was also observable in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients (OR:1.48, 95% CI 1.19-1.85, I²=0, p < 0.005). CONCLUSIONS The TyG index, an economical and precise surrogate for IR, is significantly linked with ISR. Furthermore, this correlation is unaffected by the type of coronary heart disease.
