Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the association between the intake of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and the risk of dental implant failure. MATERIALS AND METHODS The present retrospective cohort study is based on patients consecutively treated between 1980 and 2014 with implant-supported/retained prostheses at one specialist clinic. Modern endosseous dental implants with cylindrical or conical design were included, and only complete cases were considered; ie, only those implants with information available for all variables measured were included in the regression model analysis. Zygomatic implants and implants detected in radiographies but without basic information about them in the patients' files were excluded from the study. Implant- and patient-related data were collected. Multilevel mixed-effects parametric survival analysis was used to test the association between PPI exposure (predictor variable) and risk of implant failure (outcome variable), adjusting for several potential confounders. RESULTS A total of 3,559 implants were placed in 999 patients, with 178 implants reported as failures. The implant failure rates were 12.0% (30/250) for PPI users and 4.5% (148/3,309) for nonusers. A total of 45 out of 178 (25.3%) failed implants were lost up to abutment connection (6 in PPI users, 39 in nonusers), with an early-to-late failure ratio of 0.34:1. The intake of PPIs was shown to have a statistically significant negative effect for implant survival rate (HR 2.811; 95% CI: 1.139 to 6.937; P = .025). Bruxism, smoking, implant length, prophylactic antibiotic regimen, and implant location were also identified as factors with a statistically significant effect on the implant survival rate. CONCLUSION This study suggests that the intake of PPIs may be associated with an increased risk of dental implant failure.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The purpose of the present review was to test the null hypothesis of no difference in the implant failure rates, postoperative infection, and marginal bone loss for patients being rehabilitated using dental implants with immediate nonfunctional loading (INFL) compared to immediate functional loading (IFL), against the alternative hypothesis of a difference. METHODS An electronic search without time or language restrictions was undertaken in March 2014. Eligibility criteria included clinical human studies, either randomized or not. The estimates of relative effect were expressed in risk ratio (RR) and mean difference (MD) in millimeters. RESULTS 1059 studies were identified and 11 studies were included, of which 7 were of high risk of bias, whereas four studies were of low risk of bias. The results showed that the procedure used (nonfunctional vs. functional) did not significantly affect the implant failure rates (P=0.70), with a RR of 0.87 (95% CI 0.44-1.75). The wide CI demonstrates uncertainty about the effect size. The analysis of postoperative infection was not possible due to lack of data. No apparent significant effects of non-occlusal loading on the marginal bone loss (MD 0.01mm, 95% CI -0.04-0.06; P=0.74) were observed. CONCLUSIONS The results of this study suggest that the differences in occlusal loading between INFL and IFL might not affect the survival of these dental implants and that there is no apparent significant effect on the marginal bone loss. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE There has been a controversy concerning whether dental implants should be subjected to immediate functional or nonfunctional loading. As the philosophies of treatment may alter over time, a periodic review of the different concepts is necessary to refine techniques and eliminate unnecessary procedures. This would form a basis for optimum treatment.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of the study was to examine the different morphometric variations of the human mandibles, comparing between males and females in dentate and edentulous mandibles. METHODS Eighty adult human dry mandibles were studied. Thirty-two variations were evaluated according to the presence and absence of teeth. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was performed to evaluate the normal distribution of the morphometric variables. Levene test evaluated homoscedasticity. Student t tests and Mann-Whitney U tests, when indicated, were performed to compare each of the morphometric variables between dentate and edentulous mandibles. Statistical differences were considered when the P value was less than 0.05. RESULTS Considerable numbers of measurements were statistically significantly different when comparing the influence of dental status on the anatomical measurements; the position and anatomical relations of the mental foramen and overall dimensions of the mandible are especially influenced. Only a few measurements were statistically significantly different in the comparison between males and females. CONCLUSIONS The results of this research showed that the presence or absence of the teeth can alter mandibular shape and that mandibular edentulism may be associated with specific shape changes in the mandible. The dental status has a higher influence on the mandibular anatomy than the difference in gender.

Abstract
PURPOSE One of the operative complications of the sagittal split osteotomy of the mandible is a bad split, which describes an unfavorable or irregular fracture of the mandible in the course of the osteotomy. The purpose of this study is to identify previous studies which reported incidences of bad split occurrence during sagittal split osteotomy and to discuss its mechanisms and risk factors, based on a literature review, in order to minimize their occurrence. A few illustrative cases are also presented. METHODS An electronic search was undertaken in January 2011. The titles and abstracts from these results (n = 363) were read for identifying studies which reported incidences of bad split occurrence during sagittal split osteotomy procedures. RESULTS Twenty-one studies were identified and assessed. The incidence of bad splits from these studies varied between 0.21% and 22.72%. The buccal plate of the proximal segment and the posterior aspect of the distal segment were the most affected areas. DISCUSSION The surgical patient should be evaluated according to age and the presence of unerupted/impacted third molars. Prevention is focused on adequate osteotomy design, eliminating sharp angle where abnormal stress occurs on bony segments, completion of adequate cuts into the retrolingular depression and through the inferior border, and careful separation of the segments. The SSO is an extremely technical and sensitive procedure, and careful attention will probably prevent most unfavorable splits. If a fracture occurs, the fractured segments should be incorporated into the fixation scheme if possible. The occurrence of bad splits cannot always be avoided. When adequately treated the chances of functional success are good.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of the present study is to identify and describe the different surgical techniques for placement of zygomatic implants reported in the literature and discuss the differences between them. METHODS An electronic search was undertaken in July 2011. The titles and abstracts from these results (n = 130) were read for identifying studies, which reported different surgical techniques for placement of zygomatic implants, which resulted in 41 articles. RESULTS Five different surgical approaches were identified: (1) the classical approach, (2) the sinus slot technique, (3) the exteriorized approach, (4) the minimally invasive approach by the use of custom-made drill guides, and (5) the computer-aided surgical navigation system approach. When the maxilla is severely resorbed, the concavity formed by the ridge crest is small, and the original classical technique should be used. When maxillary resorption generates a large concavity, it would be better to exteriorize the zygomatic implant. The externalized technique has fewer surgical steps than the classical and sinus slot methods, is less invasive, and reduces surgical time. It is recommended that utilization of the sinus slot technique together with the CT-based drilling guide would enhance the final results. Although the technique that uses the computer-aided surgical navigation system approach may produce an improved precision in the clinical procedure, its use is expensive, prolongs the operation time, and is limited to centers that have the necessary equipment for the surgery. CONCLUSIONS Preference for one technique over the other should take into consideration the concavity formed by the ridge crest, maxillary sinus, and region of implant insertion in the zygomatic bone.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To integrate the available data published on glandular odontogenic cyst (GOC) into a comprehensive analysis of its clinical/radiological and histopathological features. METHODS An electronic search was undertaken in May/2017. Eligibility criteria included publications having enough clinical/radiological/histological information to confirm the diagnosis. RESULTS Fifty-eight publications (169 GOCs) were included. The lesion was slightly more prevalent in men than in women. There was a high prevalence in the fifty/sixth decades of life, in the anterior regions, and in mandibles. Lesions were commonly associated with bone expansion (73%) and unilocular radiological appearance (61.5%). GOC was found to be associated with tooth displacement or an unerupted tooth (30.9%), cortical bone perforation (26%), presence of clinical symptoms (24.3%), root resorption (13.9%). Microscopic parameters most commonly were observed in GOCs-in at least 95% of the lesions: presence of hobnail cells, intraepithelial microcysts, epithelial lining with variable thickness. The presence of apocrine snouting was the microscopic parameter less often found (40.4%). CONCLUSION Although the recurrence rate of GOCs is not as high as previously believed, it is a relevant phenomenon (21.6%). Adjunctive procedures after enucleation should be considered. None of the clinical/radiological and histopathological features evaluated had a statistically significant effect on the recurrence rate.

Abstract
The present study measured the position of the greater palatine foramen relative to adjacent anatomical landmarks in Brazilian skulls. The perpendicular distance of the greater palatine foramen to the midline maxillary suture in Brazilian skulls was about 14 mm and the distance of greater palatine foramen to the incisive foramen was approximately 36 mm. The distance of greater palatine foramen to the posterior border of the hard palate was approximately 3 mm, and the mean angle between the midline maxillary suture and the line from the incisive foramen and the greater palatine foramen was 22.71 degrees . In almost 70% of the cases, the greater palatine foramen opened in an anterior direction. The mean palatine length was approximately 52 mm. In the greater majority of the skulls (93.81%), the greater palatine foramina were opposite or distal to the maxillary third molar. These data will be helpful in comparing these skulls to those from various other regions as well as comparing skulls of different races. It can also provide professionals with anatomical references, in order to block the maxillary division of the trigeminal nerve through the greater palatine foramen. Our results would help clinicians locate the greater palatine foramen in patients with and without upper molars.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To assess the survival of dental implants placed in sites of previously failed implants and to explore the possible factors that might affect the outcome of this reimplantation procedure. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients that had failed dental implants, which were replaced with the same implant type at the same site, were included. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the patients and implants; survival analysis was also performed. The effect of systemic, environmental, and local factors on the survival of the reoperated implants was evaluated. RESULTS 175 of 10,096 implants in 98 patients were replaced by another implant at the same location (159, 14, and 2 implants at second, third, and fourth surgeries, respectively). Newly replaced implants were generally of similar diameter but of shorter length compared to the previously placed fixtures. A statistically significant greater percentage of lost implants were placed in sites with low bone quantity. There was a statistically significant difference (P = 0.032) in the survival rates between implants that were inserted for the first time (94%) and implants that replaced the ones lost (73%). There was a statistically higher failure rate of the reoperated implants for patients taking antidepressants and antithrombotic agents. CONCLUSIONS Dental implants replacing failed implants had lower survival rates than the rates reported for the previous attempts of implant placement. It is suggested that a site-specific negative effect may possibly be associated with this phenomenon, as well as the intake of antidepressants and antithrombotic agents.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the influence of several factors on the prevalence of dental implant failure, with special consideration of the placement of implants by different dental surgeons. MATERIALS AND METHODS This retrospective study is based on 2,670 patients who received 10,096 implants at one specialist clinic. Only the data of patients and implants treated by surgeons who had inserted a minimum of 200 implants at the clinic were included. Kaplan-Meier curves were stratified with respect to the individual surgeon. A generalized estimating equation (GEE) method was used to account for the fact that repeated observations (several implants) were placed in a single patient. The factors bone quantity, bone quality, implant location, implant surface, and implant system were analyzed with descriptive statistics separately for each individual surgeon. RESULTS A total of 10 surgeons were eligible. The differences between the survival curves of each individual were statistically significant. The multivariate GEE model showed the following variables to be statistically significant: surgeon, bruxism, intake of antidepressants, location, implant length, and implant system. The surgeon with the highest absolute number of failures was also the one who inserted the most implants in sites of poor bone and used turned implants in most cases, whereas the surgeon with the lowest absolute number of failures used mainly modern implants. Separate survival analyses of turned and modern implants stratified for the individual surgeon showed statistically significant differences in cumulative survival. CONCLUSION Different levels of failure incidence could be observed between the surgeons, occasionally reaching significant levels. Although a direct causal relationship could not be ascertained, the results of the present study suggest that the surgeons' technique, skills, and/or judgment may negatively influence implant survival rates.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Immediate loading of single implants is generally considered a reliable procedure. PURPOSE The objective of the present prospective randomized clinical study was to compare the overall treatment outcome following immediate loading (IL) and delayed loading (DL) of single implants after 1 year of follow-up. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients with a missing maxillary tooth (15-25) were randomly assigned to IL or DL. The protocol included implant installation in healed sites, immediate loading, delayed loading, temporary screw-retained restoration, and replacement with a permanent single implant crown. Outcome measures were implant survival, marginal bone level, soft tissue changes, papillae index, pink, and white esthetic score (PES and WES), patient judged aesthetics, and oral health impact profile (OHiP-14). RESULTS Implant survival rate was 100% and 96% for IL and DL, respectively. Implant success rate was 96% and 88% for IL and DL, respectively. Statistically significant lower papilla index scores were found in the IL group at temporary crown and definitive crown placement. An overall statistically significant improvement after 12 months for PES, WES and OHIP-14 was found. CONCLUSION This prospective randomized study showed that single implants in the maxilla can present satisfactory results with respect to either immediate loading or delayed loading after 12 months.

Abstract
The presented study aimed to assess the survival rate of porcelain laminate veneers (PLV) based on a systematic review of the literature. An electronic search was last updated in February 2021. Eligibility criteria included clinical series of patients rehabilitated with PLVs published in the last 25 years, with a minimum follow-up of 3 years. Survival analysis methods were applied. Twenty-five studies were included, with 6500 PLVs. The 10-year estimated cumulative survival rate (CSR) of PLVs was 95.5%. The 10-year CSR of PLVs when fracture, debonding, occurrence of secondary caries, and need of endodontic treatment were considered as isolated reasons for failure were 96.3%, 99.2%, 99.3%, and 99.0%, respectively. PLVs without incisal coverage had a higher failure rate than PLVs with incisal coverage. Non-feldspathic PLVs performed better than feldspathic PLVs. As a conclusion, the 10-year CSR of PLVs was 95.5%, when fracture, debonding, occurrence of secondary caries, and need of endodontic treatment were considered as reasons for restoration failure. Fracture seems to be most common complication of PLVs, followed by debonding, with both more commonly happening within the first years after PLV cementation. PLVs with incisal coverage and non-feldspathic PLVs presented lower failure rates than PLVs without incisal coverage and feldspathic PLVs.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of the study was to review the literature regarding the evolution of current thoughts on management of comminuted mandibular fractures (CMFs). METHODS An electronic search in PubMed was undertaken in May 2012. The titles and abstracts from these results were read to identify studies within the selection criteria. Eligibility criteria included studies published in English or German reporting clinical series of CMFs. RESULTS The search strategy initially identified 409 studies. Fifteen studies were identified without repetition within the selection criteria. One case report article showing significance in the development of treatment techniques was included. Additional hand-searching yielded five additional papers. Thus, a total of 21 studies were included. CONCLUSIONS Open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) in cases of CMFs are indicated in (a) severe injuries with significant displacement to allow restoration of pretraumatic anatomic relationships, (b) in the edentulous and semi-dentate patient, who may benefit from ORIF of CMFs when stable occlusal relationships are absent, and (c) in cases with multiple fractures of the midface, in which the mandible has to serve as a guide to reposition the midfacial bones. However, there is still a place for closed reduction/conservative treatment (CTR). ORIF in CMFs is not indicated in cases of minimally displaced comminuted fractures that could easily and adequately be treated with CTR. If the surgical team is not well versed in the nuances of rigid internal fixation, or the necessary equipment is not available, it is far better to do simple CTR. However, it would be more reasonable to refer the patient to a hospital that can provide means of ORIF in cases of clear indication of its use in CMFs. In cases where ORIF is indicated, stabilization by compression or any other form of load-sharing osteosynthesis is obviously contraindicated because small fragments cannot be compressed and are not capable of sharing loads. Thus, the ORIF of CMFs is best performed using load-bearing osteosynthesis; most experience has been gained with 2.7-mm reconstruction plates. External pin fixation could be used in cases when there is so much comminution, soft tissue disruption (mostly gunshot wounds), and there are inadequate teeth on either side of the comminuted fracture to control the spatial relationship of the remaining mandibular fragments with maxillomandibular fixation (MMF).

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of the study was to examine the different morphometric variations of the supraorbital and infraorbital foramina of the facial skeleton on human skulls. METHODS Eighty adult human dry skulls were studied. Measurements were made to analyze the degree of variability in the location of the supraorbital and infraorbital foramina. All measurements were done bilaterally. Variations were evaluated according to gender and side. RESULTS There were 54 female and 26 male crania. Almost all mean measurements were longer in males than in females. A statistically significant difference was observed between the left and the right sides in 4 of 10 measurements. When comparing the morphometric measurements between left and right sides of male and female crania, 6 of 22 measurements were statistically higher in men than in women. CONCLUSIONS The findings suggest that gender should be taken into account when the foramina studied here are to be located. The mean location of the infraorbital nerve was about 6.5 mm inferior to the inferior orbital rim (at the point where one can palpate the zygomatico-maxillary suture), about 25 mm from the midline, and about 43 mm below the supraorbital foramen in the same vertical line. Extra care should be taken during surgical dissection in the superior orbital region especially in the middle aspect of the superior orbital rim. In general, there were changes in measurements between the genders, but the ratios of these measurements with the horizontal and vertical measurements chosen remained the same between the genders.

Abstract
The purpose of the present meta-analysis was to test the null hypothesis of no difference in the implant failure rate, postoperative infection, and marginal bone loss for patients being rehabilitated with immediately loaded non-submerged dental implants or delayed loaded submerged implants, against the alternative hypothesis of a difference. An electronic search without time or language restrictions was undertaken in March 2014. Eligibility criteria included clinical human studies, either randomized or not. The search strategy resulted in 28 publications. The inverse variance method was used for a random- or fixed-effects model, depending on the heterogeneity. The estimates of an intervention were expressed as the risk ratio (RR) and mean difference (MD) in millimetres. Twenty-three studies were judged to be at high risk of bias, one at moderate risk of bias, and four studies were considered at low risk of bias. The difference between procedures (submerged vs. non-submerged implants) significantly affected the implant failure rate (P = 0.02), with a RR of 1.78 (95% confidence interval (CI) 1.12-2.83). There was no apparent significant effect of non-submerged dental implants on the occurrence of postoperative infection (P = 0.29; RR 2.13, CI 0.52-8.65) or on marginal bone loss (P = 0.77; MD -0.03, 95% CI -0.23 to 0.17).

Abstract
PURPOSE To review the clinical and radiographic features of the available data published on adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT) with special emphasis on the comparison of its variants. METHODS An electronic search was undertaken in July 2018. Eligibility criteria included publications having enough clinical/radiological/histological information to confirm the diagnosis. RESULTS A total of 436 publications reporting 1558 cases were included, of which 739 follicular, 247 extrafollicular, and 30 peripheral AOTs. Impacted canine is associated with follicular AOTs in almost 70% of the cases. AOTs were more prevalent in females, in the second decade of life, in maxillae, in anterior region of the jaws, and most are asymptomatic, with a considerable number of lesions presenting cortical bone perforation. Most of the lesions were treated by enucleation. Some cases of recurrence were reported in the literature, but only one was well documented. No difference was found when comparing the clinical/radiological features of the follicular, extrafollicular, and peripheral variants. CONCLUSIONS Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor variants do not show distinctive clinical radiological features. Recurrence of AOT is very rare, which justify its conservative management.

Abstract
The present review aimed to evaluate the impact of diabetes mellitus on dental implant failure rates and marginal bone loss (MBL). An electronic search was undertaken in three databases, plus a manual search of journals. Meta-analyses were performed as well as meta-regressions in order to verify how the odds ratio (OR) and MBL were associated with follow-up time. The review included 89 publications. Altogether, there were 5510 and 62,780 implants placed in diabetic and non-diabetic patients, respectively. Pairwise meta-analysis showed that implants in diabetic patients had a higher failure risk in comparison to non-diabetic patients (OR 1.777, p < 0.001). Implant failures were more likely to occur in type 1 diabetes patients than in type 2 (OR 4.477, p = 0.032). The difference in implant failure between the groups was statistically significant in the maxilla but not in the mandible. The MBL mean difference (MD) between the groups was 0.776 mm (p = 0.027), with an estimated increase of 0.032 mm in the MBL MD between groups for every additional month of follow-up (p < 0.001). There was an estimated decrease of 0.007 in OR for every additional month of follow-up (p = 0.048). In conclusion, implants in diabetic patients showed a 77.7% higher risk of failure than in non-diabetic patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to assess the evidence of a correlation between the expertise of surgeons and the survival rate of dental implants. MATERIALS AND METHODS An electronic search in four databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, SCOPUS, and the Cochrane Library) was performed for publications from their inception to May 2016 and was supplemented by manual searches. Prospective and retrospective cohorts were included if they met the following criteria: (1) the presence of an exposed group (inexperienced surgeons); and (2) the presence of a control group (experienced surgeons). Meta-analyses were performed to evaluate the effect of expertise on implant failure. RESULTS Of 609 potentially eligible articles, 8 were included in the qualitative analysis and 6 in the quantitative synthesis. Two meta-analyses were performed for different definitions of experienced surgeons. In the first meta-analysis, which included four retrospective comparative studies that defined experienced professionals as specialists, the experience of the surgeon did not significantly affect the implant failure rate (P = .54), with an odds ratio (OR) of 1.24 (95% CI, 0.62-2.48). In the second meta-analysis, which included two retrospective studies that defined experienced surgeons as professionals that had placed more than 50 implants, the expertise of the surgeon did significantly affect the implant failure rates (P = .0005), with an OR of 2.18 (95% CI, 1.40-3.39). CONCLUSION The data from the included publications suggest that surgical experience did not significantly affect implant failure when considering experience based on specialty but were significantly affected when considering experience based on the number of implants placed. Further standardized prospective studies with a control of confounding factors are needed to clarify the role of surgical expertise on implant survival rates.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to present, compare, and discuss the techniques for rapid maxillary expansion. DISCUSSION The isolated transverse maxillary deficiency can be treated either orthodontically or surgically with rapid palatal expansion. In children and adolescents, conventional orthodontic rapid maxillary expansion has been successful when used before sutural closure. On the other hand, in skeletally mature patients, the possibility of successful maxillary expansion decreases as sutures close and the resistance to mechanical forces increases. CONCLUSIONS The selection of an expansion technique depends on a number of factors. It is more likely to advocate surgery as the patient's age, transverse needs, or acceptance of the idea of surgery increases.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aims to review the literature regarding the evolution of current thoughts on the management of teeth in the line of mandibular fractures (MFs). METHODS An electronic search in PubMed was undertaken in June 2012. The titles and abstracts from these results were read to identify studies within the selection criteria-studies reporting clinical series of MFs in which the management of teeth in the fracture line was analyzed. RESULTS The search strategy initially yielded 731 references. Twenty-seven studies were identified without repetition within the selection criteria. Additional hand searching yielded 12 additional papers. CONCLUSIONS It is suggested that rigid fixation systems and the use of antimicrobial agents have reduced the incidence of infection in cases of teeth in the line of MFs. Tooth buds in the line of MFs should not be removed or replaced in the (alleged) proper position despite the degree of displacement, since studies showed that even tooth buds in the early stage of calcification and those involved in widely displaced fracture sites continued development and erupted. Its removal should be considered in cases of infection, which is a predictive factor of abnormality and/or impaction. Intact teeth in the fracture line should be left in situ if they show no evidence of severe loosening or inflammatory change. Permanent teeth maintained in the line of fracture should be followed up clinically and radiographically for at least 1 year to ensure that any unnecessary endodontic treatment is avoided. Teeth in the line of fracture that prevents reduction of fractures, teeth with fractured roots, a partially impacted wisdom tooth with pericoronitis, and a tooth with extensive periapical lesion should be removed. Teeth in the line of MFs should also be removed when located in sites where there is extensive periodontal damage, with broken alveolar walls, resulting in the formation of a deep pocket (making optimal healing doubtful).

Abstract
PURPOSE To integrate the available data published on peripheral calcifying cystic odontogenic tumour (CCOT) and peripheral dentinogenic ghost cell tumour (DGCT) into a comprehensive analysis of its clinical and radiologic features. METHODS An electronic search was undertaken in May, 2016. Eligibility criteria included publications reporting cases of peripheral CCOTs/DGCTs having enough clinical, radiological and histological information to confirm a definite diagnosis. Demographic data, lesion site and size, treatment approach and recurrence were analyzed. RESULTS Hundred and thirty-eight lesions were found (65 publications), and 117 lesions (63 publications) with enough information were analyzed (55 CCOTs, 50 DGCTs, 12 unknown). Mean age of patients was 51.3 ± 23.4 (min-max, 1-92), with higher mean age for the DGCTs variant. The lesions were more prevalent in the mandible, anterior region of the jaws, and in the second, sixth and eighth decades, with an equal sexual distribution. About 20% of all lesions showed signs of erosion of the underlying bone, with a higher rate for DGCTs. The mean lesion size was 1.3 ± 0.8 (min-max, 0.4-3.0). Time of follow-up was informed for 37 lesions, with a mean ± SD of 30.2 ± 21.0 months (min-max, 6-84). Almost all lesions were treated by conservative surgery; only three recurrences were reported. CONCLUSIONS Peripheral CCOTs/DGCTs are rare lesions. Most of the lesions were treated by simple excision with or without curettage of the underlying bone. As the recurrence rate is very low, a conservative approach seems to be enough for the great majority of cases.

Abstract
PURPOSE We determined the outcomes of 18 inferior alveolar nerve lateral transposition procedures in 15 consecutive patients. The advantages and disadvantages of this technique are discussed. RESULTS The surgical protocol for inferior alveolar nerve transposition, followed by implant placement, presented excellent results, with complete recovery of the sensitivity within 6 months after the surgical procedure. DISCUSSION Inferior alveolar nerve transposition is an option for prosthetic rehabilitation in cases of moderate or even severe bone reabsorption for patients that do not tolerate removable dentures. CONCLUSIONS It is concluded that inferior alveolar nerve transposition can be safely and predictably performed with low risk to the mental nerve sensibility. Each patient should be advised of the chance of permanent nerve deficit throughout the distribution of the mental nerve. Alternative restorative solutions should also be considered.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study sought to assess the clinical outcome and survival rate of oral implants placed in individuals with ectodermal dysplasia (ED), based on previously published studies. METHODS An electronic search without time restrictions was undertaken in 5 databases (PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, J-Stage, Lilacs). Descriptive statistics, Kaplan Meier estimator and implant failure probability were calculated. RESULTS 90 publications were included, reporting 228 ED patients that received 1472 implants (1392 conventional, 47 zygomatic, 33 mini-implants). Mean age of the patients was 20.2 ± 6.8 years (2-56). Patients had a mean of 3.2 ± 2.5 maxillary and 2.1 ± 2.6 mandibular permanent teeth (min-max, 0-14). Patients received a mean of 8.2 ± 3.8 implants (1-20). Most implants were placed in the third decade of life, 24.6% of the implants were placed in children (0-17 years of age). 1391 implants had information on follow-up (72 failures, 5.2%). The 20-year CSR was 84.6%. The probability of failure was 4.5% (95%CI 3.5%-5.6%, p < 0.001). Additional treatments performed were Le Fort I (99 implants, 20 patients, 3.5% failed), grafting (497 implants, 77 patients, 5.2% failed), distraction osteogenesis (79 implants, 16 patients, 10.1% failed). Mean follow-up was 42.9 ± 41.9 months (min-max, 2-240). CONCLUSIONS Dental implants placed in ED patients, either infants or adults, present a high survival rate (20-year CSR 84.6%).
