Abstract
To evaluate the anti-HIV-1 activities of 5 benzophenones non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) such as DY1203, DY1204, DY1119, DY1208 and DY1209 in vitro, the cytotoxicity of 5 compounds were tested on C8166, MT-4, H9 and PBMC with the MTT assay. The anti-HIV-1 activities of compounds were evaluated on laboratory-adapted strain, drug-resistant strains and primary isolated strains by p24 antigen expression ELISA. The inhibition of HIV-1 recombinant reverse transcriptase activity was assessed by ELISA assay. Among 5 compounds, DY1203 and DY1204 showed low cytotoxicities with CC(50) greater than 200 μg·m L(-1). DY1119, DY1208 and DY1209 showed strong anti-HIV-1 activities against HIV-1(IIIB,) HIV-1(74V,) HIV-1(RF/V82F/184V,) HIV-1(NL4-3) (gp41(36G)N42S,) HIV-1(KM018,) HIV-1(TC-1) and HIV-1(Wan.) However, NNRTIs drug-resistant strain HIV-1(A17) showed different resistance to these compounds. The 5 compounds proved active against HIV-1 recombinant reverse transcriptase. DY1208 is expected to become a new lead compound for its high therapeutic index. The results can provide new information for HIV-1 drug research and promote the development of new HIV-1 drugs.

Abstract
With the advance of continuous intraoperative neural monitoring (C-IONM), surgeons pay more attention to the distributing characteristics and operating approaches of vagus nerve (VN) in thyroid surgery. According to the adjacent relations with common carotid artery and internal jugular vein, the distributing location of VN can be divided into 4 types. And type P, among them, accounts for 73%. Three surgical approaches are applied in carotid sheath exposure. In order to place the probe of C-IONM, carotid sheath sharply dissection and a 10 to 15 mm long "pocket" would be performed before 360° separating the VN. Along with the clear recognition of VN anatomical distribution, the operation of VN place and remove would be more and more secure in thyroid surgeries. C-IONM is helpful in identifying the injury of laryngeal recurrent nerve and making surgical decisions. So it might gain wider acceptance in the near future.

Abstract
Objective:This experiment proposed to complicate BMMSCs and PLLA/SF scaffolds, to study its repairing ability for rabbit oral mucosa wound, and try to evaluate the most potential mixed proportion of PLLA and SF for tissue engineering. Method:Separating,cultivating and identifying BMMSCs. Observing cell phenotype of BMMSCs after cultivating BMMSCs in P70S30 PLLA/SF scaffold for one week.Observing the structure change of BMMSCs and P70S30PLLA/SF scaffold complexes after oral mucosa transplantation experiment for a week;Comparing the wound healing rate of composite of BMMSCs and PLLA/SF scafold,PLLA/SF scaffold and nature repair. Result:①There wasn't a significant effect of PLLA/SF scaffold on cell phenotype of BMMSCs.②The wounds fused well with the oral mucosa transplanted composite of BMMSCs and P70S30 PLLA/SF scaffold after a week.③The healing rate of composite of BMMSCs and P70S30 scaffold was the highest.The average healing rate of composite of BMMSCs and P70S30 scaffold was 94.8%,whose difference was statistically significant compared with natural healing and pure scaffold(P<0.01). Conclusion:①The complex composed of BMMSCs and PLLA/SF scaffolds has the potential as an ideal scaffold for tissue engineering oral mucosa.②The complex composed of BMMSCs and P70S30 PLLA/SF scaffolds is the most beneficial to wound healing of oral mucosa,and has the greatest potential for constructing tissue engineering oral mucosa.

Abstract
Venous thromboembolism is uncommon after knee arthroscopy, and there are no guidelines for thromboprophylaxis in elective routine knee arthroscopy. Preoperative evaluation of common thrombophilias should provide guidance for postarthroscopy thromboprophylaxis in otherwise healthy patients who are at high risk for venous thromboembolism. This study assessed 10 patients with venous thromboembolism after total hip or knee arthroplasty. Patients were assessed if venous thromboembolism occurred within 6 months after knee arthroscopy (n=10) or total hip or knee arthroplasty (n=21). This study assessed gene mutations (factor V Leiden, prothrombin G20210A, plasminogen activator inhibitor, methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase) and serologic thrombophilias (high levels of factors VIII and XI, homocysteine, anticardiolipin immunoglobulin G and immunoglobulin M antibodies, and lupus anticoagulant; low antigenic protein C, S, and free S; and antithrombin III deficiency). The same coagulation data were obtained for normal subjects (n=110). The major thrombophilias in the arthroscopy group were factor V Leiden heterozygosity (40%), high factor VIII level (50%), and high homocysteine (30%). The respective values in control subjects were 2% (P=.0004), 7% (P=.0011), and 5% (P=.02). When the arthroscopy group was compared with the 21 patients who had venous thromboembolism after total hip or knee arthroplasty, the sole difference was factor V Leiden heterozygosity, which was 40% vs 0%, respectively (P=.007). Although venous thromboembolism after knee arthroscopy is uncommon, to identify high-risk patients and guide postoperative thromboprophylaxis, the authors suggest routine preoperative measurement of 3 common familial thrombophilias: factor V Leiden, factor VIII, and homocysteine. Abstract
Some studies investigated the association of antisense non-coding RNA in the INK4 locus (ANRIL) rs2383207 polymorphism with coronary artery disease (CAD) risk. However, the result was still inconsistent. The aim of this study was to investigate whether there is an association between the ANRIL rs2383207 polymorphism and CAD risk. We carried out a PubMed (Medline), EMBASE database search covering all published articles. The strength of association between ANRIL rs2383207 polymorphism and CAD risk was assessed by calculating OR with 95% CI. A total of 13 case-control studies involving 6796 cases and 9956 controls were included in this meta-analysis. ANRIL rs2383207polymorphism was associated with a significantly an increased risk of CAD (OR=1.47; 95%CI, 1.33-1.62). We also found that this polymorphism increased CAD risk in Caucasians (OR=1.51; 95%CI, 1.28-1.77) and Asians (OR=1.42; 95%CI, 1.26-1.61). In the subgroup analysis according to gender, both women and men were significantly associated with the increased risk of CAD (OR=1.36; 95%CI, 1.03-1.79 and OR=1.58; 95%CI, 1.20-2.09). In the subgroup analysis by age, ANRIL rs2383207 polymorphism showed significant results in old CAD patients and young CAD patients (OR=1.32; 95%CI, 1.20-1.44 and OR=1.53; 95%CI, 1.32-1.77). Furthermore, this polymorphism also influenced myocardial infarction risk (OR=1.75; 95%CI, 1.24-2.47). Even the studies with adjustment for age, gender, smoking were included, the significant association was also observed (OR=1.43; 95%CI, 1.26-1.62). In conclusion, this meta-analysis suggested that ANRIL rs2383207 polymorphism is associated with CAD risk.

Abstract
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a very common neurological disorder. However, effective therapy is lacking. Although the blood-brain-barrier (BBB) protects the brain, it prevents the delivery of about 90% of drugs and nucleotides into the brain, thereby hindering the development of gene therapy for PD. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided focused ultrasound delivery of microbubbles enhances the delivery of gene therapy vectors across the BBB and improves transfection efficiency. In the present study, we delivered nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2, NFE2L2) contained in nanomicrobubbles into the substantia nigra of PD rats by MRI-guided focused ultrasound, and we examined the effect of Nrf2 over-expression in this animal model of PD. The rat model of PD was established by injecting 6-OHDA in the right substantia nigra stereotactically. Plasmids (pDC315 or pDC315/Nrf2) were loaded onto nanomicrobubbles, and then injected through the tail vein with the assistance of MRI-guided focused ultrasound. MRI-guided focused ultrasound delivery of nanomicrobubbles increased gene transfection efficiency. Furthermore, Nrf2 gene transfection reduced reactive oxygen species levels, thereby protecting neurons in the target region.

Abstract
The 26S proteasome is a negative regulator of type I interferon (IFN-α/β) signaling. Inhibition of the 26S proteasome by small molecules may be a new strategy to enhance the efficacy of type I IFNs and reduce their side effects. Using cell-based screening assay for new 26S proteasome inhibitors, we found that emodin, a natural anthraquinone, was a potent inhibitor of the human 26S proteasome. Emodin preferably inhibited the caspase-like and chymotrypsin-like activities of the human 26S proteasome and increased the ubiquitination of endogenous proteins in cells. Computational modeling showed that emodin exhibited an orientation/conformation favorable to nucleophilic attack in the active pocket of the β1, β2, and β5 subunits of the 26S proteasome. Emodin increased phosphorylation of STAT1, decreased phosphorylation of STAT3 and increased endogenous gene expression stimulated by IFN-α. Emodin inhibited IFN-α-stimulated ubiquitination and degradation of type I interferon receptor 1 (IFNAR1). Emodin also sensitized the antiproliferative effect of IFN-α in HeLa cervical carcinoma cells and reduced tumor growth in Huh7 hepatocellular carcinoma-bearing mice. These results suggest that emodin potentiates the antiproliferative effect of IFN-α by activation of JAK/STAT pathway signaling through inhibition of 26S proteasome-stimulated IFNAR1 degradation. Therefore, emodin warrants further investigation as a new means to enhance the efficacy of IFN-α/β.

Abstract
The perception of sour taste in mammals is important for its basic modality properties and avoiding toxic substances. We explore a biomimetic bioelectronic tongue, which integrate MEA (microelectrode array) and taste receptor cell for acid detection as a switch. However, the acid-sensing mechanism and coding of the taste receptor cells in the periphery is not well understood, with long-standing debate. Therefore, we firstly construct a Hodgkin-Huxley type mathematical model of whole-cell acid-sensing taste receptor cells based on the electrophysiologic patch clamp recordings with different acid sensitive receptor expressing and different acidic stimulations. ASICs and PKDL channels are two most promising candidates for acidic sensation. ASICs channels contribute to the On response, and PKDL channels coding the Offset stimulations respectively, which function as a pair for switch. Therefore, with the advantage of effective and noninvasive detection for MEA, a sour taste biosensor based on MEA and taste receptor cells was designed and established to detect sour response from the elementary acid sensitive taste receptor cells during and after stimulus. From simulation and extracelluar potential recordings, we found the biomimetic bioelectronic tongue was acid-sensitive, as acid stimulation pH decrease, the firing frequency significantly increase. Furthermore, this reliable and effective MEA based bioelectronic tongue functioned as a switch for stimulation On and Off. This study provided a powerful platform to recognize sour stimulation and help elucidate the sour taste sensation and coding mechanism.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to observe the histological changes in the peripheral auditory system in rats at different time-points after relocating from low altitude to high altitude (3,600 m). The general physical condition of the rats was observed and cochlear tissue samples were obtained every month. The morphology and survival of the cochlear hair cells (HCs) were observed using cochlear surface preparation at 1, 30, 90, 120, 150 and 180 days after moving to the plateau area. Changes in spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs) were detected at different time-points using immunofluorescence technology on frozen sections. No obvious morphological changes were observed in the cochlear HCs within 1–3 months of the rats moving to the plateau area, and there was little loss of outer HCs (OHCs) at 3 months. Cell swelling, dislocation and loss of cochlear OHCs were apparent at 4 months, and the losses of cochlear OHCs and inner HCs (IHCs) were 54 and 39%, respectively at 6 months. The loss of SGNs was observed at 3 months, and there was a loss of 28–35% of SGNs during 3–6 months. Thus, a high-altitude hypoxic environment influenced the cochlear HCs in rats after moving to the plateau area in a time-dependent manner. The damage to SGNs occurred earlier than the HCs, although SGN damage was not aggravated with time. Furthermore, compared with cochlear HCs, cochlear SGNs were identified to be markedly more sensitive to hypoxia, and exerted an adaptive mechanism to protect neurons from hypoxia.

Abstract
Cytoglobin (CYGB), a member of the globin family, is thought to protect cells from reactive oxygen and nitrogen species and deal with hypoxic conditions and oxidative stress. However, its molecular mechanisms of action are not clearly understood. Through immunoprecipitation combined with a two-dimensional electrophoresis–mass spectrometry assay, we identified a CYGB interactor: aldo-keto reductase family 7 member A2 (AKR7A2). The interaction was further confirmed using yeast two-hybrid and co-immunoprecipitation assays. Our results show that AKR7A2 physically interacts with CYGB.

Abstract
Web-based-remote (WBR) intervention is a new approach that incorporates smart control technology and modern medicine to monitor patient compliance. It is based on computer control and communication technology. This study is to explore the benefits of WBR psychological intervention for cancer treatment. 128 patients diagnosed with cancer by Pathology Department of our hospital between 1 February 2013 and 1 August 2013 were included. Patients were randomly assigned to intervention and control group (n = 64). The Questionnaire-Core 30 (QLQ-C30) was used for the survey. Intervention group received WBR psychological intervention in addition to regular clinical follow-up care. Control group only received regular clinical follow-up care. The QLQ-C30 score was significantly better in the intervention group than the control group when the intervention and control groups were followed for three months. In conclusion, WBR psychological intervention substantially improves the quality of life in patients during cancer treatment.

Abstract
Cisplatin has been used effectively in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) were recently reported to contribute to the pathogenesis and progression of HCC. Their molecular mechanism related to cisplatin treatment remains unclear. The purpose of this study is to identify specific lncRNAs and to clarify their functions in HCC after cisplatin exposure. Reannotation and identification of differentially expressed lncRNAs were performed using the microarray data set GSE38122 in the Gene Expression Omnibus database. Four significantly differentially expressed lncRNAs (RP11-134G8.8, RP11-612B6.2, RP11-363E7.4 and RP1-193H18.2) were identified in HepG2 cells exposed to cisplatin by bioinformatics methods. The upregulated RP11-134G8.8 and RP11-363E7.4 and the downregulated RP1-193H18.2 were confirmed by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Furthermore, 57 significant co-expressing genes and their corresponding pathways were annotated and identified. The p53 signaling pathway showed the most significant difference among all pathways. Based on these results, the cell cycle and three key genes, cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 1A (CDKN1A, also known as p21), tumor protein p53 inducible protein 3 (TP53I3) and wild-type p53-induced phosphatase 1 (Wip1, also known as PPM1D), were examined. CDKN1A, TP53I3 and PPM1D were all downregulated by RP1-193H18.2 but upregulated by RP11-134G8.8 and RP11-363E7.4. And obvious S phase arrest was induced by cisplatin treatment for 24 h in HepG2 cells. Finally, the immunofluorescence results showed upregulation of TP53I3 and Wip1 and downregulation of p21 at the protein level. The results suggested that the lncRNAs RP11-134G8.8, RP11-363E7.4 and RP1-193H18.2, and their co-expression genes, which annotated into the p53 signaling pathway, could be potential targets for cisplatin treatment.

Abstract
The present study aimed to investigate the proteomic difference between melanosis coli (MC) alone and melanosis coli with colon cancer (MCCC). Protein expression in patients with different diseases was analyzed using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF/TOF-MS). A total of 14 protein differences with a confidence level of >95% were found. There were six differences between MC and normal tissues, in which two proteins exhibited upregulated expression levels and four proteins exhibited downregulated expression levels in MC. Furthermore, one protein was expressed only in MC (P<0.05). In addition, there were differences in the expression of eight proteins between MC and MCCC tissues, in which one protein had an upregulated expression in MC tissues and seven proteins had an upregulated expression in MCCC tissues. Furthermore, two proteins were only expressed in MCCC tissues (P<0.05). Eight proteins were identified using mass spectrometry and database search. In conclusion, comparative proteomics accurately displayed the expression differences in eight proteins between MC, MCCC and normal colon tissues.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Noninvasive assessment of liver fibrosis has important clinical significance. Different techniques including two-dimensional shear-wave elastography (2D SWE) and real-time tissue elastography (RTE) are reported to be useful for the noninvasive diagnosis of hepatic fibrosis. All these techniques are affected by many factors. How to choose a reasonable method needs further studies. PURPOSE This study was conducted to comparatively assess the diagnostic performance of 2D SWE and RTE in patients with Chronic Hepatitis B (CHB) and influence of inflammation on the stiffness values obtained by both techniques, so as to objectively assess the reasonable choice between these 2 elastography techniques for noninvasive assessment of hepatic fibrosis in clinical practice. MATERIALS AND METHODS Four-hundred and thirty-seven patients with CHB meeting the inclusion criteria were enrolled in the study. All patients underwent liver stiffness measurements by using 2D SWE and RTE on the same day. Histologic fibrosis was staged and inflammation activity was graded based on the METAVIR scoring system on liver biopsy specimens. RESULTS The liver stiffness values by using 2D SWE and RTE both increased in parallel with the degree of liver fibrosis and the grade of inflammation. However, the diagnostic efficacy of significant fibrosis and cirrhosis using 2D SWE was significantly higher than that of RTE. The 2D SWE measurement values were statistically different in different alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels and METAVIR activity grades; however, no statistically significant differences were observed by using RTE. The diagnostic efficacy of 2D SWE significantly varied with elevated ALT levels compared with RTE. CONCLUSION 2D SWE was more accurate than RTE in the assessment of significant fibrosis and cirrhosis in patients with CHB. Compared with RTE, the measurement values and diagnostic performance obtained by 2D SWE were prone to be more easily affected by the inflammation fluctuations.

Abstract
Lafora disease is a fatal genetic disorder characterised by neurotoxic deposits of malformed insoluble glycogen. In humans it is caused by mutation in the EPM2A or NHLRC1 genes. There is a known mutation in miniature wirehaired dachshunds which has not been documented in other dog breeds, including beagles, in which the disease is relatively commonly reported. This case report describes the causative defect in two affected beagles, namely the same massive expansion as in miniature wirehaired dachshunds of a 12-nucleotide repeat sequence that is unique to the canine NHLRC1 gene. This is the first mutation described in beagles with Lafora disease, and so far the only Lafora disease genetic variant in dogs.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the potential roles that p16 (CDKN2A) and RB activation have in sensitization to MEK inhibitor in resistant KRAS-mutant non-small cell lung cancer cells (NSCLC) in vitro and in vivo. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN Cell viability was measured with MTS assays. Effects of administration of radiation and combination drug treatments were evaluated by clonogenic assay, flow cytometry, and Western blots. DNA repair was assessed using immunofluorescent analysis. Finally, lung cancer xenografts were used to examine in vivo effects of drug treatment and radiation therapy. RESULTS In this study, we showed that sensitivity to MEK inhibitor correlated to the RB/p16/CDK4 pathway and knockdown of RB induced resistance in cell lines sensitive to MEK inhibitor. Also, overexpression of p16 and inhibition of CDK4 had the ability to sensitize normally resistant cell lines. Our data indicated that the MEK inhibitor (trametinib, GSK112012) cooperated with the CDK4/6 inhibitor (palbociclib, PD0332991) to strongly reduce cell viability of KRAS-mutant NSCLCs that were resistant to the MEK inhibitor in vitro and in vivo. In addition, we report for the first time that resistance of KRAS-mutant NSCLCs to MEK inhibitor is, at least partly, due to p16 mutation status, and we described a drug combination that efficiently reactivates the RB tumor suppressor pathway to trigger radiosensitizing effects, apoptosis, and cell-cycle arrest. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that MEK inhibitor in combination with CDK4/6 inhibitor has significant anti-KRAS-mutant NSCLC activity and radiosensitizing effect in preclinical models, potentially providing a novel therapeutic strategy for patients with advanced KRAS-mutant NSCLCs.

Abstract
Polybenzoxazine is used as a novel carbon and nitrogen source for coating LiFePO4 to obtain LiFePO4@nitrogen-doped carbon (LFP@NC) nanocomposites. The nitrogen-doped graphene-like carbon that is in situ coated on nanometer-sized LiFePO4 particles can effectively enhance the electrical conductivity and provide fast Li+ transport paths. When used as a cathode material for lithium-ion batteries, the LFP@NC nanocomposite (88.4 wt % of LiFePO4) exhibits a favorable rate performance and stable cycling performance.

Abstract
Objective The use of postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) remains controversial for Stage IIIA-N2 non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients, a possible reason is that IIIA-pN2 NSCLC diseases are a heterogeneous group with different clinicopathologic features. The aim of this research was to prove whether the mediastinal lymph nodes’ (LNs) skipping status could indicate the necessity of the PORT for the pN2 NSCLC patients. Methods The skip metastasis was defined as pN0N2 (no N1 LN involved), and nonskip metastasis was pN1N2 (one or more N1 LNs involved). Patients were divided into two groups: LNs nonskip and LNs skip, and postoperative chemoradiotherapy (POCRT) and postoperative chemotherapy. Then, the LN nonskip and LN skip groups were further divided into subgroups: POCRT and point of care testing (POCT) for subgroup analysis. Results There were 220 cases included in the analysis, and 43 of them received PORT. On univariate analysis, the median 3-year progression-free survival (PFS) was, respectively, 16 months (27.7%) for the LN skip group and 11 months (15.3%) for the LN nonskip group (P=0.001). The median 3-year overall survival (OS) was, respectively, 35 months (47.0%) for the LN skip group and 27 months (38.7%) for the LN nonskip group (P=0.025). The median 3-year local recurrence-free survival (LRFS) was, respectively, 25 months (41.0%) for the LN skip group and19 months (29.9%) for the LN nonskip group (P=0.014). The median 3-year distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) was, respectively, 22 months (32.5%) for the LN skip group and 15 months (20.4%) for the LN nonskip group (P=0.013). The median 3-year PFS was, respectively, 17 months (25.6%) for the POCRT group and 12 months (18.6%) for the POCT group (P=0.037). Although the POCRT group showed better OS, LRFS, and DMFS than the POCT group, the results showed no statistical significance. In subgroup analysis, there was no statistical significance in the Kaplan–Meier analysis between subgroups, but it showed that POCRT resulted in better PFS, OS, and DMFS in both LN skip and LN nonskip subgroups; this advantage was more obvious in the LN skip subgroup. Conclusion The LN skip status is closely related to the survival of the IIIA-N2 NSCLC disease, and the LN skip patients may get more benefit in PFS and LRFS than the LN nonskip patients from PORT.

Abstract
Multiple myeloma (MM) is a fatal hematological cancer characterized by clonal plasma cell proliferation in the bone marrow. MM has an increasing global incidence and a poor prognosis. There are limited treatment options available for MM, and this is further compounded by the development of drug resistance. The present study demonstrated that 7-{4-[Bis-(2-hydroxyethyl)-amino]-butoxy}-5-hydroxy-8-methoxy-2-phenylchromen-4-one (V8), a novel synthetic flavonoid, induced apoptosis in human MM RPMI 8226 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner, using cell viability assays and flow cytometry. Subsequently, V8-induced apoptosis in RPMI 8226 cells was revealed to occur via mitochondria-mediated pathways. The activity of caspase-3, -8 and -9, and the mRNA level of B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) and B-cell lymphoma-extra large were greatly increased, while the expression of Bcl-2-like protein 4 and BH3 interacting domain death agonist was significantly decreased in RPMI 8226 cells following V8 treatment, as observed using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). In addition, western blotting revealed that the release of mitochondrial cytochrome c into the cytosol was promoted by V8. Furthermore, a clear alteration in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress was observed in cells treated with V8; upregulation of glucose-regulated protein (GRP) 78, GRP94, C/EBP homologous protein, cleavage of caspase-12, phosphorylated protein kinase RNA-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase (p-PERK), phosphorylated eukaryotic initiation factor 2α (p-eIF2α) and activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4) was observed with qPCR and western blotting, suggesting that V8-induced apoptosis is involved in the ER stress response. Overall, the present results demonstrated that V8 induced apoptosis in human MM RPMI 8226 cells via the PERK-eIF2α-ATF4 ER stress response pathway, which may provide novel directions for exploiting this compound as a potential anti-neoplastic drug for MM therapy.

Abstract
A profile preferentially partial occlusion removal method for integral imaging is presented. The profile of the occlusion always contains details with significant texture structure, and regions with significant texture structure often lead to reliable depth estimation. Taking the advantage of the significant texture structure, the profile of occlusion is preferentially dealt with, and then the entire occlusion region is determined via regional spreading according to the accurate profile. The details of occlusion can be accurately removed and the occluded scene is also retained to the maximum degree. In our method, elemental images are integrated into a four-dimensional light field to provide consistently reliable depth estimation and occlusion decisions among all elemental images. Experimental results show that the proposed method is efficient to deal with the details of the occlusion, and it is robust for the occlusions with different kinds of texture structure.

Abstract
Background Lipopeptides are known as promising microbial surfactants and have been successfully used in enhancing oil recovery in extreme environmental conditions. A biosurfactant-producing strain, Bacillus atrophaeus 5-2a, was recently isolated from an oil-contaminated soil in the Ansai oilfield, Northwest China. In this study, we evaluated the crude oil removal efficiency of lipopeptide biosurfactants produced by B. atrophaeus 5-2a and their feasibility for use in microbial enhanced oil recovery. Results The production of biosurfactants by B. atrophaeus 5-2a was tested in culture media containing eight carbon sources and nitrogen sources. The production of a crude biosurfactant was 0.77 g L−1 and its surface tension was 26.52 ± 0.057 mN m−1 in a basal medium containing brown sugar (carbon source) and urea (nitrogen source). The biosurfactants produced by the strain 5-2a demonstrated excellent oil spreading activity and created a stable emulsion with paraffin oil. The stability of the biosurfactants was assessed under a wide range of environmental conditions, including temperature (up to 120 °C), pH (2–13), and salinity (0–50 %, w/v). The biosurfactants were found to retain surface-active properties under the extreme conditions. Additionally, the biosurfactants were successful in a test to simulate microbial enhanced oil recovery, removing 90.0 and 93.9 % of crude oil adsorbed on sand and filter paper, respectively. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed that the biosurfactants were a mixture of lipopeptides, which are powerful biosurfactants commonly produced by Bacillus species. Conclusions The study highlights the usefulness of optimization of carbon and nitrogen sources and their effects on the biosurfactants production and further emphasizes on the potential of lipopeptide biosurfactants produced by B. atrophaeus 5-2a for crude oil removal. The favorable properties of the lipopeptide biosurfactants make them good candidates for application in the bioremediation of oil-contaminated sites and microbial enhanced oil recovery process.

Abstract
Background and Aims Aluminium (Al) toxicity is a limiting factor for plant growth and crop production in acidic soils. Citrate exudation and activation of the plasma membrane H+-ATPase are involved in soybean responses to Al stress. Auxin has crucial functions in plant growth and stress responses. However, little is known about possible interactions between auxin and citrate exudation under Al stress. In this study, we elucidated the regulatory roles of IAA in Al-induced citrate exudation in soybean roots. Methods We measured IAA content, Al concentration, citrate exudation, plasma membrane H+-ATPase activity, expression of the relevant genes and phosphorylation of the plasma membrane H+-ATPase by integrating physiological characterization and molecular analysis using hydroponically grown soybean. Key Results The concentration of IAA was increased by 25 and 50 μm Al, but decreased to the control level at 200 μm Al. External addition of 50 μm IAA to the root medium containing 25, 50 or 200 μm Al decreased root Al concentration and stimulated Al-induced citrate exudation and the plasma membrane H+-ATPase activity. Reverse transcription-PCR analysis showed that exogenous IAA enhanced the expression of citrate exudation transporter (GmMATE) but not the plasma membrane H+-ATPase gene. The western blot results suggested that IAA enhanced phosphorylation of the plasma membrane H+-ATPase under Al stress. Conclusions Auxin enhanced Al-induced citrate exudation through upregulation of GmMATE and an increase in phosphorylation of the plasma membrane H+-ATPase in soybean roots.
