Abstract
Follow-up data were obtained for 96 cases of thymoma. The one-year survival rate was 84.3%, the three-year 77.1%, the five-year 74.1%, and the ten-year 57.1%. The five-year survival rate of total resection group was 88.9%; that of non-radically treated group was 44.4%. Clinical stages were defined: Stage I--macroscopically encapsulated and microscopically no capsular invasion; Stage II--1. macroscopic invasion into surrounding fatty tissue of mediastinal pleura, or 2. microscopic invasion into capsule; Stage III--macroscopic invasion into neighboring organ; Stage IVa--pleural or pericardial dissemination; Stage IVb--lymphogenous or hematogenous metastasis. Five-year survival rates of each clinical stage were 92.6% in Stage I, 85.7% in Stage II, 69.6% in Stage III, and 50% in Stage IV. Recurrence after total resection was found in six of 69 cases. Seven of 13 patients treated by subtotal resection survived more than five years with postoperative radiotherapy.

Abstract
Among 137 thymectomized patients with nonthymomatous myasthenia gravis (MG), six were reoperations. Thymectomy had initially been performed by the transcervical approach, but was ineffective. Extended thymectomy was then performed by median sternotomy. The reoperations revealed residual thymus (average weight, 19 gm) in all cases. Postoperative courses were favorable in three patients and unfavorable in three others. The latter had received high-dose steroid therapy before the second operation. We conclude that total thymectomy by the transcervical approach is almost impossible, and that reoperation may accelerate improvement in some cases.

Abstract
Purified mumps virus (Urabe strain) was given mainly by intravenous injection to a total of 200 patients with cancer. The only adverse clinical reaction was transient mild fever in about half the patients. The beneficial clinical effects were as follows; decrease or disappearance of ascites and edema of the lower limbs at high rates (26/37 and 4/4, respectively), usually within a week after treatment: decrease or stoppage of cancerous bleeding in 30 of 35 patients: decrease or disappearance of pain in most of the patients: and tumor regression in 26 patients with cancer of the breast, rectum, ileocaecum, thyroid gland, uterus, skin, etc. Histologically, the virus-treatment caused shrinkage of nuclei and vacuolization of the cytoplasma of tumor cells, but the degenerative changes of tumor cells were not so great as those after chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Infiltration of lymphocytes, fibrosis and collagenesis occurred around tumor tissues, where necrosis or exfoliation of tumor cells was frequently observed.
