Abstract
Recently, multiparticle-correlation measurements of relativistic p/d/^{3}He+Au, p+Pb, and even p+p collisions show surprising collective signatures. Here, we present beam-energy-scan measurements of two-, four-, and six-particle angular correlations in d+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200, 62.4, 39, and 19.6 GeV. We also present measurements of two- and four-particle angular correlations in p+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV. We find the four-particle cumulant to be real valued for d+Au collisions at all four energies. We also find that the four-particle cumulant in p+Au has the opposite sign as that in d+Au. Further, we find that the six-particle cumulant agrees with the four-particle cumulant in d+Au collisions at 200 GeV, indicating that nonflow effects are subdominant. These observations provide strong evidence that the correlations originate from the initial geometric configuration, which is then translated into the momentum distribution for all particles, commonly referred to as collectivity.

Abstract
During 2015, the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) provided collisions of transversely polarized protons with Au and Al nuclei for the first time, enabling the exploration of transverse-single-spin asymmetries with heavy nuclei. Large single-spin asymmetries in very forward neutron production have been previously observed in transversely polarized p+p collisions at RHIC, and the existing theoretical framework that was successful in describing the single-spin asymmetry in p+p collisions predicts only a moderate atomic-mass-number (A) dependence. In contrast, the asymmetries observed at RHIC in p+A collisions showed a surprisingly strong A dependence in inclusive forward neutron production. The observed asymmetry in p+Al collisions is much smaller, while the asymmetry in p+Au collisions is a factor of 3 larger in absolute value and of opposite sign. The interplay of different neutron production mechanisms is discussed as a possible explanation of the observed A dependence.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
In patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) have been reported to be associated with improved survival. Lehmann et al. identified 6 molecular subtypes of TNBC [basal-like (BL) 1, BL2, mesenchymal (M), mesenchymal stem like (MSL), immunomodulatory (IM), and luminal androgen receptor (LAR)], and we previously reported that TNBC subtype is a predictor of pathologic complete response (pCR). Recently, the IM gene expression signature has been shown to be indicative of the presence of TILs and has been incorporated into TNBC subtyping as a modifier of the other groups rather than a separate subtype. However, the association between TNBC subtype and the presence of TILs is not known. We hypothesized that the BL2 and LAR subtypes, which have low pCR rates, have low rates of immune infiltration. Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is an aggressive cancer that is frequently triple-negative. The association between IBC and the presence of TILs also is not known. In this study, we analyzed the association between TNBC molecular subtype and the IM signature and determined whether the IM signature differed between patients with IBC and non-IBC.
Methods
We retrospectively analyzed 88 patients with TNBC from the World IBC Consortium dataset for whom IBC status was known (IBC, n=39; non-IBC, n=49) and tumor gene expression data were available. TNBC specimens were classified using the TNBCtype algorithm (Insight Genetics, Inc., TN, USA), which uses a 101-gene signature. For each tumor, the TNBCtype algorithm reports the TNBC molecular subtype (BL1, BL2, M, MSL, or LAR) and the IM status, which is described as positive (IM+) or negative (IM-). Recently, Fisher's exact test was used to analyze differences in subtype distribution between the IM+ and IM- tumors.
Results

The majority of IM+ cases occurred in the BL1 and MSL subtypes. No IM+ cases were observed in the BL2 or M subtypes, and only 1 was observed in the LAR subtype. IM+ cases occurred at roughly the same frequency in patients with IBC (33%) and non-IBC (37%, p=0.73).
Conclusions
TNBC molecular subtypes differ in their degree of immune infiltration, and most IM+ TNBCs are of the BL1 and MSL subtypes. Our finding that the proportion of IM+ cases was not different between IBC and non-IBC indicates that TILs are recruited to the tumor microenvironment similarly in IBC and non-IBC tumors. Further, Pietenpol et al recently showed that the MSL signature represents normal stromal cells rather than tumor cells by performing laser-capture microdissection of TNBC specimen. Validation studies are needed to corroborate and further expand upon our findings.

Abstract
AIM Dysfunction of circulating endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) has been shown to affect the development of microvascular diseases in diabetes patients. The aim of this study was to elucidate the development and mechanical dysfunction of EPCs in type 2 diabetes (T2D). METHODS The colony-forming capacity of EPCs and differentiation potential of bone marrow (BM) c-Kit(+)/Sca-I(+) lineage-negative mononuclear cells (KSL) were examined in T2D mice, db/db mice and KKAy mice, using EPC colony-forming assay (EPC-CFA). RESULTS T2D mice had fewer BM stem/progenitor cells, and proliferation of KSL was lowest in the BM of db/db mice. In T2D mice, the frequency of large colony-forming units (CFUs) derived from BM-KSL was highly reduced, indicating dysfunction of differentiation into mature EPCs. Only a small number of BM-derived progenitors [CD34(+) KSL cells], which contribute to the supply of EPCs for postnatal neovascularization, was also found. Furthermore, in terms of their plasticity to transdifferentiate into various cell types, BM-KSL exhibited a greater potential to differentiate into granulocyte macrophages (GMs) than into other cell types. CONCLUSION T2D affected EPC colony formation and differentiation of stem cells to mature EPCs or haematopoietic cells. These data suggest opposing regulatory mechanisms for differentiation into mature EPCs and GMs in T2D mice.

Abstract
The need for superior vena cava (SVC) or inferior vena cava (IVC) recon struction is not uncommon: lung cancer, mediastinal tumors, or retroperitoneal neoplasms are the most frequent indications for caval replacement. Since auto genous veins, which represent the most satisfactory venous substitute, have not been applicable to caval replacement, because of the lack of suitable length and caliber, many types of materials have been tested in the venous system. The present study was planned to compare the potential of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (e-PTFE) and glutaraldehyde-tanned human umbilical vein (HUV) grafts as caval substitutes. Patch (4 x 5 cm) reconstruction of the SVC was carried out in 10 dogs, tubu lar (3 x 10 mm) reconstruction of the SVC in 5 dogs, and patch (1 x 2 cm) recon struction of the IVC in 8 dogs. In the patch reconstruction groups, HUV grafts were used in half of the cases and 30 μm pore sizes e-PTFE grafts in the other half, while in the tubular SVC replacement group, only e-PTFE grafts were employed. The grafts were removed fifteen to thirty days after IVC patch re construction, thirty to two hundred seventy days after SVC patch reconstruc tion, and thirty-three to forty-one months after SVC tubular replacement. In every instance, specimens were obtained for light microscopy (LM) and scan ning electron microscopy (SEM). HUV patches implanted in the SVC showed hemorrhagic foci at their central portion and marked constriction at the anastomotic regions. On the contrary, the inner surface of e-PTFE patch grafts was covered with a uniform and glis tening neointima. By LM, e-PTFE patches showed a smooth and regular lumi nal surface, while the inner surface of HUV patches was irregular, with hemorrhagic areas in the underlying layers. By SEM, e-PTFE patches revealed a more rapid and orderly endothelialization of their inner surface than HUV patches did. Tubular SVC reconstruction showed the good long-term viability of the e-PTFE neointima (as long as forty-one months after grafting). Only spotty areas revealed neointima alterations, such as fibrinoid degeneration, fo cal necrosis, or minor thrombotic foci. In the IVC patch reconstruction model, HUV grafts showed an exuberant fibrin deposition on their inner surface and delayed endothelialization patterns, as compared with e-PTFE grafts. Since rapid healing with rapid endothelialization is accepted as the most important factor providing the graft luminal surface with the best antithrombotic proper ties, the present study demonstrated that e-PTFE is a more suitable material than HUV for SVC and IVC reconstruction.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the role of diffusion-weighted MRI (DW-MRI) as an imaging biomarker for upper urinary tract cancer (UUTC) that has already metastasized or will metastasize soon. METHODS 61 patients clinically diagnosed with UUTC were prospectively enrolled in this study. All the patients underwent MRI, including DW-MRI, prior to any interventions. Correlations between apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and other clinicopathological variables, including metastasis-free survival, were analysed. RESULTS Median follow-up period was 938 days. Of the 61 patients, 12 had any metastases at the initial diagnosis. 11 patients developed metastases during the follow-up period. These 23 patients were categorized as "Metastatic". Of the remaining 38 patients, 35 with a follow-up period longer than 400 days were categorized as "Localized". ADC was significantly lower in the Metastatic category than in the Localized (p = 0.0002) category. Multivariate analysis of pre-operative variables identified ADC (cut-off value, 1.08 × 10(-3) mm(2) s(-1)) and clinical T stage based on T2 weighted MRI as an independent predictive factor of metastatic UUTC. 46 patients without any metastases during the initial diagnosis were stratified into a high-risk group (16 patients with low ADC and clinical T3-4) and a low-risk group (30 patients with high ADC or clinical Ta-2). The 3-year metastasis-free survivals were 45% and 93%, respectively. CONCLUSION In the current study, UUTC with lower ADC value is more likely to have metastatic potential. Incorporating ADC with clinical T stage helps to differentiate metastatic UUTC at the initial diagnosis. ADVANCES IN KNOWLEDGE DW-MRI is a potential imaging biomarker reflecting metastatic propensity of UUTC.

Abstract
Thyroid hormones play crucial roles in the development and functional maintenance of the central nervous system. Despite extensive studies of the neural function of thyroid hormones, little is known about the effects of hypothyroidism on behavioural traits and the mechanisms underlying such effects. In the present study, we report an investigation of congenitally hypothyroid mutant rdw rats, revealing a novel function of thyroid hormones in the central nervous system. The rdw rats were subjected to behavioural analyses such as the rotarod test, open field test and circadian activity measurement. To determine the cause of behavioural disorders, cerebellar morphogenesis was examined by immunohistochemical analysis, and the axonal transport of dopamine in the nigrostriatal pathway was analysed by high-performance liquid chromatography and western blotting. The effects of thyroxine administration to the rdw rats were examined by behavioural analysis. The rdw rats showed severe impairment of motor coordination and balance. This could be explained by the fact that the rats showed severe retardation of cerebellar morphogenesis, which correlates with the small somata and poor dendritic arborisation of Purkinje cells and retarded migration of granule cells particularly during the first two postnatal weeks. Moreover, the rdw rats showed hypoactivity, characterised by decreased circadian locomotor activity. After weaning, thyroxine administration improved the dwarfism in rdw rats but had no effect on cerebellar function. In addition, the rdw rats showed anxiety and depression intrinsically to novel surroundings. Interestingly, the rdw rats showed high levels of dopamine in the substantia nigra and low levels in the striatum, an important centre for the coordination of behaviour. Furthermore, low levels of tubulin in the striatum were detected, indicating the aberrant axonal transport of dopamine in the nigrostriatal pathway as a result of the reduced delivery of microtubules. These findings indicate an important function of thyroid hormones in cerebellar formation and in the regulation of axonal transport of dopamine. Moreover, rdw rats will be useful for studies of brain function and behavioural disorders in congenital hypothyroidism.
