Clinical and immunological features of pemphigus relapse. Br J Dermatol 2019; 180:1498-1505. Abstract
BACKGROUND More than half of patients with pemphigus experience relapse during the disease course. The risk factors and clinical and immunological characteristics of relapse remain largely unclear. OBJECTIVES To elucidate the risk factors and clinical features of pemphigus relapse. METHODS We carried out a retrospective review of the clinical records of 42 cases of pemphigus at a single centre. RESULTS Sixty-two per cent of patients experienced relapse, usually when oral prednisolone was tapered to around 0·1 mg kg-1 . In mucocutaneous pemphigus vulgaris (mcPV), the initial doses (mean ± SD) of prednisolone were significantly lower in patients with relapse (0·78 ± 0·24 mg kg-1 ) than in those without relapse (1·01 ± 0·01 mg kg-1 ). At relapse, mcPV shifted to mucosal dominant PV (mPV; 40%), pemphigus foliaceus (PF) (20%) or 'other' (20%). In contrast, relapsing mPV and PF had the same clinical phenotypes as the initial phenotypes. Patients with both anti-desmoglein (Dsg)1 and anti-Dsg3 antibodies at onset had recurrence with anti-Dsg3 antibodies alone (40%), with both anti-Dsg1 and anti-Dsg3 antibodies (30%), with anti-Dsg1 antibody alone (20%) or were subthreshold (10%). CONCLUSIONS mcPV shows transitions in clinical phenotype and autoantibody profile at relapse. At least 1 mg kg-1 daily of prednisolone, especially for patients with mcPV, and prudent tapering around 0·1 mg kg-1 may lead to better outcomes.

Characteristics of IgG subclasses and complement deposition in BP230-type bullous pemphigoid. J Eur Acad Dermatol Venereol 2019; 33:595-600. Abstract
BACKGROUND Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is the most common autoimmune blistering disease. BP180 is the primary autoantigen of BP, and in a portion of BP cases, BP230 is the only target of autoantibodies. Such BP is called BP230-type BP. BP230-type BP tends to show milder clinical phenotypes than conventional BP, but the reason is unclear. The pathogenic roles of autoantibodies and complement activation have been shown in conventional BP, but the distribution of IgG subclasses and the degree of complement deposition in BP230-type BP remain unclear. OBJECTIVE To compare the distribution of IgG subclasses and the degree of complement deposition in BP230-type BP with those in conventional BP with autoantibodies to BP180 and BP230 (BP180-BP230-type BP). METHODS The diagnosis of BP was confirmed by the histopathology of the lesions, the deposition of IgG and complement in the perilesional skin and the presence of circulating autoantibodies to BP180 and BP230. The disease severity was determined by bullous pemphigoid disease area index. The deposition of IgG subclasses and complement deposition were examined by direct immunofluorescence of the perilesional skin in 6 BP230-type BP cases and 11 BP180-BP230-type BP cases. RESULTS Sixty seven percent of BP230-type BP cases show a mild clinical phenotype. All BP230-type BP cases and 82% of BP180-BP230-type BP cases were found to demonstrate the clear deposition of IgG4 at the basement membrane zone of skin specimens. Notably, the deposition of IgG1 and IgG3 was faint or negative in all of the BP230-type BP cases, whereas they were clearly detected in 91% and 64% of the BP180-BP230-type BP cases, respectively. The deposition of complement C3 tended to be weaker in BP230-type BP than in BP180-BP230-type BP. CONCLUSION The mild clinical phenotype of BP230-type BP may correlate with the weaker deposition of IgG1, IgG3 and complement in the skin lesions.

Radiocesium and 40K distribution of river sediments and floodplain deposits in the Fukushima exclusion zone. JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL RADIOACTIVITY 2018; 195:40-53. Abstract
In this study, radiocesium and 40K analysis were accomplished for samples of riverbed sediments and floodplain deposits collected from five rivers in the vicinity (<20 km) of the damaged Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant after seven years of the accident. Sediment particle size distribution and major oxide content were determined also for six selected samples to understand the retention and migration process of radiocesium in river environments. The radiocesium activity concentration varied from 103 ± 6 Bq·kg-1 to 22,000 ± 500 Bq·kg-1 in riverbed sediments and from 92 ± 5 Bq·kg-1 to 117,000 ± 2000 Bq·kg-1 in floodplain deposits. The 134Cs/137Cs ratio (decay corrected to 15 March 2011) was 1.02 in the both samples. Compared to monitoring results in 2011, it was proved that the radiocesium distribution pattern had been changed remarkably during seven years. The radiocesium was primarily attached to fine clay particles but its sorption on sand and coarse sand particles was also considerable. The sorption process of radiocesium was not affected by the presence of water and moreover, after seven years of the Fukushima accident, a significant radiocesium migration cannot be expected without particle migration. Consequently, radiocesium will remain for a long time in the river environments and its redistribution is mainly affected by the erosion process of the sediments. The average 40K activity concentration of riverbed sediment and floodplain deposit samples was 640 ± 152 Bq·kg-1 changing from 319 ± 18 Bq·kg-1 to 916 ± 41 Bq·kg-1. In the river estuary zones, significant activity concentration decrements were observed for both radionuclides. This suggests that seawater intrusion has a decreasing effect on both natural and artificial radionuclides via wash-out of particulate radiocesium and 40K, and desorption of these radionuclides, but to reveal the detail of this process further investigations are required. The analysis of 40K can help in a simple and easy way to reveal the mineral composition differences of sediment samples.

Abstract
Interacting nature between impurity hydrogen atoms and vacancy-type defects in single crystal ZnO was investigated by means of positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy. In order to clarify the observation of their thermal behavior, the sample was implanted with 1H+ using an electrostatic accelerator. After the implantation, the positron lifetime became shorter, which suggests that the hydrogen atoms were captured by zinc vacancies (VZn) to form vacancy-hydrogen complexes (VZn + nH). The complexes decompose by heat treatment: most of the hydrogen atoms gradually dissociate from VZn + nH in the temperature range 393-773 K. It was also suggested that large vacancy clusters were formed by the agglomeration of smaller clusters during the process of stepwise isochronal annealings at temperatures from 773 to 1073 K, and their decomposition took place at 1173-1373 K. Temperature-dependent thermal behaviors of hydrogen atoms and vacancy-type defects in ZnO are discussed.

Abstract
Acquired dermal melanocytosis of the face and extremities (ADMFE) is an unusual form of acquired dermal melanocytosis (ADM). In this paper, we report a case of ADMFE and review the published literature. Our review highlights several clinical differences between ADMFE and ADM: (i) more frequent involvement of the nasal alae in ADMFE than in ADM, (ii) less frequent involvement of the cheeks in ADMFE than in ADM, (iii) limbs affected in all cases of ADMFE but in few cases of ADM, and (iv) frequent involvement of conjunctiva and/or gingiva in ADMFE but very rare involvement in ADM. These findings strongly support the hypothesis that ADMFE is clinically distinct from the classic form of ADM, and gaining an understanding of its phenotype will enable accurate diagnosis and early intervention by Q-switched laser therapy, which should benefit those patients with disease-related cosmetic issues.

Abstract
Differential cross sections and photon-beam asymmetries for the γ[over →]p→π^{-}Δ^{++}(1232) reaction have been measured for 0.7<cosθ_{π}^{c.m.}<1 and E_{γ}=1.5-2.95 GeV at SPring-8/LEPS. The first-ever high statistics cross-section data are obtained in this kinematical region, and the asymmetry data for 1.5<E_{γ}(GeV)<2.8 are obtained for the first time. This reaction has a unique feature for studying the production mechanisms of a pure uu[over ¯] quark pair in the final state from the proton. Although there is no distinct peak structure in the cross sections, a non-negligible excess over the theoretical predictions is observed at E_{γ}=1.5-1.8 GeV. The asymmetries are found to be negative in most of the present kinematical regions, suggesting the dominance of π exchange in the t channel. The negative asymmetries at forward meson production angles are different from the asymmetries previously measured for the photoproduction reactions producing a dd[over ¯] or an ss[over ¯] quark pair in the final state. Advanced theoretical models introducing nucleon resonances and additional unnatural-parity exchanges are needed to reproduce the present data.

Abstract
Liver endothelial cells are important components of the tissue along the hepatic sinusoid. They are responsible for microcirculation in the liver and scavenger functions. It would therefore be important to include these cells in any hybrid type of artificial liver in addition to hepatocytes. However, it is difficult to culture these cells in vitro. The development of a liver endothelial cell line, which maintains the characteristics of the primary culture, would thus be of great benefit in the development of an artificial liver. In the present study we established immortalized liver endothelial cells from the liver of an H-2Kb-tsA58 transgenic mouse, which harbors the SV40 TAg gene. Hepatic sinusoidal cells isolated from H-2Kd-tsA58 mouse proliferated In the presence of γ-interferon at 33°C. Four clones were established, out of which clone M1 had the highest amounts of PGI2 production, as well as plasminogen activator activity and internalized acetylated low density lipoprotein. On culture dishes the M1 cells grew individually and spread. Sieve plates on the cell surface were not readily visible, but small pores were detected under electron microscopic observation. These results suggest that M1 clone cells originated from liver endothelial cells. Moreover it was possible to culture the immortalized liver endothelial cells in a radial-flow bioreactor for 5 days, with a maximum 6-keto prostaglandin F1α production of 25 μg per day. This suggests that immortalized liver endothelial cells and a radial-flow bioreactor can prove useful tools in the development an artificial liver.

Abstract
Our research goal is to measure the 7Be(d, p) reaction to shed light on the 7Li problem in the Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis. We are developing an unstable 7Be target for a high-resolution measurement of the 7Be(d, p)8Be reaction. We plan to compare two methods to producethe 7Be target: (1) Activation method, and (2) Implantation method. We performed an activation methodexperiment at the Van de Graaff at Osaka University, and obtained the cross-section data. A second experiment to obtain more accurate data will take place at the Tandem Electrostatic Accelerator, Kobe University. We have also made a 7Be target with implantation method at CRIB, Center for Nuclear Study, Univer-sity of Tokyo. An experiment to measure the (d, p) reaction with the implanted target is scheduled for 2018 at Japan Atomic Energy Agency, tandem facility.

Astrophysical reactions involving radioactive isotopes (RI) are of importance for the stellar energy generation and nucleosynthesis especially in high-temperature astrophysical sites, such as X-ray bursts, core-collapse supernovae, and supermassive metalpoor stars. In spite of the essential diffculties in the experimental evaluation of those reaction rates, there are several successful approaches to study them, owing to the recent technical developments in the beam production, measurement method, and detectors. Among them, the measurements of α resonant scattering and (α, p) reactions using the thick-target method in inverse kinematics are discussed. The experiments at the low-energy RI beam separator CRIB, operated by Center for Nuclear Study (CNS), the University of Tokyo, are introduced as examples for such studies.
