Abstract
Relaxor ferroelectric perovskites are highly polarizable and can exhibit giant coupling between elastic strain and an applied electric field. Here, we report an in situ extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) study of a PbZn1/3Nb2/3O3 (PZN) single crystal as a function of the electric field. We show that the strong dipoles in the NbO6 octahedra bonds are aligned along the four ⟨011⟩ directions close to the orientation of the electric field, while a small reversible polar shift occurs for Zn in the direction of the electric field, i.e., positive or negative. This reversible Zn-O polar shift is proposed to play an important role in both the "easy" switching of the ferroelectric polarization and the giant piezoelectric effect in PZN.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Caregivers are a vital resource in the care of transplant candidates or recipients. However, few strategies have been tested that attempt to decrease the stress and anxiety they commonly encounter. OBJECTIVE To test the feasibility of using mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) techniques to decrease stress and anxiety in caregivers of lung transplant candidates/recipients who required admission to an acute care facility. METHODS 30 caregivers of lung transplant candidates/recipients were recruited during hospitalization of their significant other. Each completed the perceived stress scale (PSS) and state trait anxiety inventory (STAI) before and 4 weeks after receiving a DVD that demonstrated MBSR techniques. Participants were asked to practice MBSR techniques for 5-15 min a day for 4 weeks. RESULTS The participants had a mean±SD age of 55.6±13.6 years; 77% of participants were female and 93% Caucasian. The mean PSS and STAI (trait and anxiety) scores of caregivers were higher than population norms pre- and post-intervention. Scores for caregivers who stated they watched the entire DVD and practiced MBSR techniques as requested (n=15) decreased significantly from pre- to post-testing for perceived stress (p=0.001), state anxiety (p=0.003) and trait anxiety (p=0.006). Scores for those who watched some or none of the DVD (n=15) did not change significantly. CONCLUSION Caregivers can benefit from stress reduction techniques using MBSR.

Abstract
Freezing of water in hydrophilic nanopores (D=1.2 nm) is probed at the microscopic scale using x-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and molecular simulation. A freezing scenario, which has not been observed previously, is reported; while the pore surface induces orientational order of water in contact with it, water does not crystallize at temperatures as low as 173 K. Crystallization at the surface is suppressed as the number of hydrogen bonds formed is insufficient (even when including hydrogen bonds with the surface), while crystallization in the pore center is hindered as the curvature prevents the formation of a network of tetrahedrally coordinated molecules. This sheds light on the concept of an ubiquitous unfreezable water layer by showing that the latter has a rigid (i.e., glassy) liquidlike structure, but can exhibit orientational order.

Abstract
Objective To examine if body satisfaction is associated with body mass index (BMI) change and whether it protects against the development of frequent binge eating among overweight and obese adolescent girls. Methods We used prospective data from 9 waves of an ongoing cohort study of adolescents, the Growing Up Today Study. At enrollment in 1996, participants were 9 to 14 years old. Questionnaires were mailed to participants annually until 2001, then biennially through 2007. Girls who were overweight or obese in 1996 were included in the analysis (n=1 559). Our outcomes were annual change in BMI and incident frequent binge eating, defined as binge eating at least weekly and no use of compensatory behaviors. Results At baseline, 57.2% of the overweight and obese girls were at least somewhat satisfied with their bodies. During 11 years of follow-up, 9.5% (95% confidence interval (CI) [7.8, 10.8]) of the girls started to binge eat frequently. Controlling for BMI and other confounders, overweight and obese girls who reported being at least somewhat satisfied with their bodies made smaller BMI gains (β=−0.10 kg/m2, 95% CI [−0.19, −0.02]) and had 61% lower odds of starting to binge eat frequently (odds ratio (OR)=0.39, 95% CI [0.24, 0.64]) than their less satisfied peers. Compared to girls who were the least satisfied with their bodies, girls who were the most satisfied had 85% lower odds of starting to binge eat frequently (OR=0.15, 95% CI [0.06, 0.37]). The association between body satisfaction and starting to binge eat frequently was stronger for younger adolescents than older adolescents. Conclusions While body dissatisfaction is common among overweight and obese girls, body satisfaction may protect against excessive weight gain and binge eating. Prevention of body dissatisfaction must begin early and should be considered as a component of both obesity and eating disorder prevention programs.

Abstract
SUMMARY
The purpose of this study was to determine the reliability of the data acquisition and modeling process of laser and white light scanners by evaluating the reproducibility of digitized simulated crowns with different convergences. A secondary purpose was to analyze the influence of die preparation by testing this hypothesis with a set of dies without ditching compared with a set with well-defined margins. Ditching or trimming the die defines the position of the margin and acts as a guide to gingival contour when the restoration is being waxed. Two light scanners (a white light optical scanner [Steinbichler Gmbh, Neubeuern, Germany] and red laser light scanner [TurboDent System, Taichung, Taiwan]) were evaluated. Two sets of simulated crowns were fabricated as cone frustrum models with a total occlusal convergence (TOC) of 0°, 5°, 10°, 15°, 20°, and 25° and a 9-mm base and 3-mm height using a precision milling machine and computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technique. One set of the dies was ditched immediately below the finish line to enhance marginal definition. Each die was optically digitized five times directly with the two different measuring systems. The area of each triangle in the scan that is occlusal to the margin line was calculated and summed to produce the final surface area measurement provided. The digitizing error was compared with the computed surface area of the original master die sets and compared with a paired t-test (df=4; 95% CI). There was no difference in accuracy of the untrimmed dies between the two systems evaluated. We also did not find any difference in the 0° (p=0.12) and 5° degree (p=0.21) groups among the ditched dies. However, when the TOC exceeded 5°, there was a significant difference between the two groups, with the laser groups having a smaller error percentage. Three-dimensional light scanning was not affected by the convergence angle except in the 0°-5° range. Trimming the dies greatly affected the accuracy of scanning.

Abstract
An in situ structural description of the origin of the ferroelectric properties as a function of the applied electric field E was obtained by synchrotron x-ray diffraction. A setup was used to average the effects of the preferred orientation induced by the strong piezoelectric strain and solve in situ the crystal structure as a function of the applied electric field. Hence, we were able to describe the microscopic origin of the macroscopic ferro- and piezoelectric properties of the most widely used ferroelectric material, lead zirconate titanate.

Abstract
The electronic ferroelectric lutetium ferrite (LuFe(2)O(4)) was studied by x-ray diffraction as a function of pressure. Pressure is shown to induce an irreversible rhombohedral to orthorhombic transition leading to a supercell determined by the combination of electron and synchrotron x-ray diffraction. This new configuration is proposed to be charge ordered in agreement with the results of resistivity measurements.

Abstract
Several single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have been completed in multiple sclerosis (MS). Follow-up studies of the variants with the most promising rankings, especially when supplemented by informed candidate gene selection, have proven to be extremely successful. In this study we report the results of a multi-stage replication analysis of the putatively associated SNPs identified in the Wellcome Trust Case Control Consortium non-synonymous SNP (nsSNP) screen. In total, the replication sample consisted of 3444 patients and 2595 controls. A combined analysis of the nsSNP screen and replication data provides evidence implicating a novel additional locus, rs3748816 in membrane metalloendopeptidase-like 1 (MMEL1; odds ratio=1.16, P=3.54 × 10⁻⁶) in MS susceptibility.
