Abstract
BACKGROUND Thiopurine-related adverse events such as leukopenia, liver dysfunction and pancreatitis are associated with variants in the NUDT15 gene. Loss-of-function (low or no enzyme activity) alleles are more common in Asian and Hispanic populations. The prevalence of these variants in the Australian inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) population has not yet been reported. AIM To evaluate the presence of NUDT15 loss-of-function alleles *2,*3,*9 in the Australian IBD population. METHODS The NUDT15 screening cohort included 423 IBD patients from Brisbane, Australia. Study patients were recruited by: (i) retrospective review of clinical charts for thiopurine-related severe adverse events; (ii) pathology data (white blood cell (WBC) and neutrophil counts). NUDT15 genotyping was performed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-high-resolution melt (HRM), TaqMan genotyping and Sanger sequencing. RESULTS NUDT15 mutation R139C (allele *3) was identified in 8 of 423 (1.9%) IBD patients. Seven of eight patients were R139C heterozygous (C/T) and one patient was R139C homozygous (T/T). One of the C/T group and the T/T patient developed thiopurine-induced myelosuppression (TIM) within 60 days of dosing. One patient in the C/T group developed TIM after 60 days of thiopurine dosing. The remaining five patients in the C/T group did not show TIM; however, other thiopurine-related events could not be ruled out and therefore careful monitoring over a long period is recommended. CONCLUSIONS This is the first study to report the frequency of NUDT15 haplotypes *2,*3,*9 in an Australian IBD population. The most common variant detected was the R139C mutation. PCR and Sanger sequencing are efficient and cost-effective approaches for NUDT15 genotyping.

Abstract
Celebrities, athletes and even politicians are frequently identified as role models for most impressionable students. But the reality is, outside of their own home, one of the greatest role models in a student's life is standing in front of the classroom. Teachers are people to look up to and emulate. This paper attempts to discover some of the essential qualities and skills that would help teachers and the students they teach achieve their full potentials, and also some key characteristics that contribute to teachers and instruction effectiveness. This paper also attempts to highlight the features of 3H (Head, Heart and Hands) model in effective instructional approach and theorizes that the 3H attributes in combination with Bloom's Taxonomy will produce effective 21st century teachers. Hence, this article endeavors to create awareness and contribute to the transformation of teachers toward reflective and visionary; confident and competent teachers. After all, effective teachers will inspire their talented students to live up to their full potentials. Effective 21st century teachers are in the best position to shape and equip students with the desired 21st century skills.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Memory impairment is a serious problem that has a significant negative impact on survival and quality of life. When used for a long time, drugs used to treat memory loss become less effective and have more side effects, making therapy more difficult. Different medicinal plants are now being highlighted because of their valuable applications and low risk of adverse effects. Moringa oleifera is one of these plants that has gained much attention due to its diverse biological functions. The study aimed to determine the effects of Moringa oleifera on working memory in memory-impaired Wistar rats. RESULTS For this experimental study, 30 male Wistar rats having 150-250 g bodyweight were divided equally into three groups: Group-I/normal memory group (treated with oral normal saline 5 ml/kg body weight), Group-II/memory-impaired group (induced by intraperitoneal ketamine 15 mg/kg body weight), and Group-III/experimental group (treated with oral Moringa oleifera 200 mg/kg bodyweight and intraperitoneal ketamine 15 mg/kg body weight). The experimental group showed significantly fewer working memory errors than the memory-impaired group. The experimental group also provides the lowest variability of WMEs among groups. Thus, the study concludes that M. oleifera can prevent ketamine-induced memory impairment in Wistar rats.

Abstract
Viruses that induce pulmonary difficulties and auto-inflammation are more common in people with Down syndrome. They also have a higher number of comorbidities associated with a worse prognosis than the overall population. Adult patients with acute COVID-19 are increasingly being diagnosed with Long COVID. However, patients with Down syndrome with later long COVID-19 are the first example documented in Bangladesh.

Abstract
The emerging concept of planetary health needs to be discussed in a more organized and sustainable way within the global public health and healthcare disciplines. Therefore, planetary health should be considered a cardinal component of the global academic framework for healthcare professionals. The availability of related curricula and courses is crucial to equip health professionals in this relatively new discipline of planetary health. In this review article, we aimed to explore published articles and online databases of courses to summarize the available planetary health education opportunities and discussions for health professionals, to identify the gaps in resource allocation and to suggest future recommendations. We observed a visible resource inequity in the global south with the lack of a universal planetary health module for healthcare professionals. Additionally, there is minimal inclusion of allied health disciplines in this learning process. We therefore recommend a dedicated network of motivated healthcare professionals and regional hubs with an agenda to ensure a comprehensive, uniform, and inclusive planetary health education curriculum and practice.

Abstract
Microplastic pollution is a global concern, mainly due to its adverse effects on organisms and ecosystems. However, our knowledge of its impact on humans, in particular, is still very limited. Thus, while we have not gathered definitive information on their consequences, studies that aim to identify the MP's sources constitute subsidies to better understand the various exposure pathways to these pollutants. Thus, we investigated the possible presence of MP-like particles in teabag samples (of different brands) obtained in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Surprisingly, all analyzed samples (five brands) were contaminated with MPs. Fragments and fibers were identified in a higher percentage, and a wide variety of colors was identified, with a predominance of brown, blue, and red colors. Scanning electron microscope images of teabags exhibited net-like structures of fiber particles with a smooth surface. Furthermore, we observed irregularly shaped MPs and rougher surfaces and fragments in the process of detachment from the main fiber, oxidation flakes, and fracture-like. The average size of these pollutants was between 200.6 and 220.7 μm, and the polymer types identified via Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) were polytetrafluoroethylene, high-density polyethylene, polycarbonate, nylon, polyvinyl chloride, polytetrafluoroethylene, ethylene-vinyl acetate, cellulose acetate, and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, the last three being the most frequent in the analyzed samples. Finally, we noticed that MPs from tea bags in Dhaka could cause an average emission of 10.9 million grams of MPs/year. Although the teabags analyzed in our study are not "complemented with the appealing flavor of MPs", it is very likely that tea ingestion in Dhaka is accompanied by the concomitant ingestion of plastic particles making teabags an important route of human exposure to these micropollutants.

Abstract
Although several studies are confirming the ubiquity of microplastics (MPs) in environments, our knowledge about their effects on human health is still very limited. Therefore, while we have not gathered definitive information on their consequences, studies that aim to identify the MPs sources constitute subsidies to better understand the various exposure pathways to these pollutants. Thus, we investigated the possible presence of MP-like particles in five brands of commercial sugars and two unpacked, unbranded, and unlabeled sugars (hereinafter referred to as "non-branded"), obtained from different supermarkets in Dhaka (Bangladesh). Surprisingly, MPs-like particles were identified in all analyzed samples and taken together, our data demonstrated similar variations (between branded and non-branded samples) in terms of number, size, shape, color, and polymer composition. The number of plastic particles/kg sugar was, on average, 343.7 ± 32.08 (mean ± SEM), having been observed a tendency for a higher frequency of MPs < 300 μm. Overall, microfibers and spherules were the most and the predominant colors of MPs (in general) were black, pink, blue, and brown. The FT-IR analysis confirmed the chemical nature of MPs (in branded and non-branded), having identified nine polymeric types (ABS, PCV, PET, EVA, CA, PTFE, HDPE, PC, and nylon), being ABS and PVC the most frequent. Furthermore, we estimate that sugar consumption in Dhaka City can cause the ingestion of millions of tons of MPs annually (2.4 to 25.6 tons) (with an average of 10.2 tons). Our study is the most comprehensive report on the MP's occurrence in sugar, confirming that the ingestion of this food constitutes an important route of human exposure to these micropollutants and, therefore, serves as a baseline for future assessments and useful for generating efficient strategies to control MPs.

Abstract
Uterine leiomyomas are complex tumours with limited medical treatment options. Simvastatin is used to treat hypercholesterolaemia and has shown promising effects as a treatment option for leiomyomas. Previously, our group demonstrated a promising effect of simvastatin treatment in a patient-derived xenograft mouse model. Here, we tested the efficacy of simvastatin liposomal nanoparticles (NPs). After bilateral leiomyoma xenograft implantation, mice (N = 12) were divided into three treatment arms: control, simvastatin and simvastatin-loaded liposome NPs (simvastatin-NPs). Treatment with simvastatin significantly reduced tumour volume and inhibited the Ki67 expression when compared to the control group. There was a trend of reduced tumour volume and Ki67 expression after treatment with simvastatin-NP; however, the results were not significant. Due to low bioavailability and short half-life of simvastatin, liposomal NPs have the potential to enhance drug delivery, however, in this study NP did not provide improvement over simvastatin, but did demonstrate their potential for the delivery of simvastatin.Impact statementWhat is already known on this subject? Simvastatin treatment in a patient-derived xenograft mouse model reduced tumour growth and decreased proliferation.What do the results of this study add? Treatment with simvastatin significantly reduced tumour volume and inhibited the Ki67 expression when compared to the control group. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Environmental toxicants such as chemical pollution have an enormous impact on the health of people and the planet. Emerging findings suggest that non-communicable diseases are linked to early and chronic environmental exposures. However, the rapid globalisation in developing countries, environmental change and the emergence, spread, persistence and severity of infectious diseases are not yet well understood. The aim of this study is to understand which environmental toxicants are commonly associated with infectious diseases in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs). METHODS AND ANALYSIS A total of four electronic databases, MEDLINE through PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and CENTRAL (the Cochrane Library) be searched to identify relevant studies and will be screened by two independent reviewers. The Cochrane risk of bias (ROB) tool for randomised control trials (RCTs) and ROB assessment tool for non-randomised studies for non-RCTs will be used to assess the ROB. A meta-analysis will be used to determine the pooled effect if we find out the included articles have similar environmental exposure, participant groups, study design and outcome measures. A narrative synthesis of the findings will be provided, along with summaries of the intervention effect. Heterogeneity between the studies will be assessed, and sensitivity analysis will be conducted based on study quality. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Findings will be summarised in a single manuscript. This review attempts to explore the pivotal role of environmental toxicants in predisposing, developing, persistent and severity of infectious diseases in LMICs. Findings from this study will highlight the effects of individual environmental toxicants' role on infectious disease outcomes for the early prevention and limit toxic exposure to guide individual, community, and occupational health policy for future strategies. Abstract
AIMS Uterine leiomyomas, or fibroids, are estrogen dependent benign tumor in women, however, they have limited treatment options. Simvastatin, a drug commonly used to treat high cholesterol. Recently we demonstrated that simvastatin alters estrogen signaling by reducing the expression and trafficking of the estrogen receptor-α (ER-α) in human uterine leiomyoma cells. Caveolae are invaginations of the plasma membrane where ER-α is known to localize and directly interacts with the caveolar protein caveolin-1 (CAV1). This study examines the effects of simvastatin on plasma membrane caveolae and the expression and palmitoylation of CAV1 in human leiomyomas which may influence ER-α signaling. MAIN METHODS We performed in vitro experiments using primary and immortalized human uterine leiomyoma cells. The caveolae were quantified using transmission electron microscopy. Additionally, we examined the impact of simvastatin treatment (40 mg orally per day for 12 weeks) on human leiomyoma tissue obtained from a randomized controlled trial. The CAV1 protein and mRNA levels were determined using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reactions, western blotting, and immunofluorescence analyses. KEY FINDINGS Simvastatin decreased the number of caveolae in primary leiomyoma cells and reduced CAV1 abundance in whole cells and remarkably the plasma protein fraction. It also decreased CAV1 palmitoylation, a post-translational modification associated with CAV1 activation. The effects of simvastatin on CAV1 were recapitulated in human leiomyoma tissue samples. SIGNIFICANCE Our results identify caveolae and CAV1 as novel targets of simvastatin which may contribute to the recently described effects of simvastatin on ER-α signaling and plasma membrane trafficking.

Abstract
Background The population's mental and physical health worldwide are currently at risk due to the coronavirus pandemic. We evaluated the mental health status of the adolescents trapped indoors because of the precautionary restrictions and prolonged closure of the educational institutions. Method A cross-sectional study was conducted on adolescents from multiple urban and semi-urban areas of Bangladesh from 22 January to 3 February 2021. A self-reported online questionnaire containing questions regarding sociodemographic factors, home quarantine-related factors and mental health symptoms was distributed to collect data. Descriptive analysis, bivariate and multivariable logistic regressions were performed to measure the association of the variables. Cronbach's alpha was estimated to present the internal consistency of the scales. Results A total of 322 adolescents (aged 12–19) with a mean age of 16.00 years (SD = 1.84) responded to the invitation. 54.97% (n = 177) of them were male, and the participants were predominantly urban residents (87.27%, n = 281). We observed varying degrees of depression in 67.08%, anxiety in 49.38% and stress in 40.68% of the participants according to DASS-21. Age, sex, education, mother's occupation, total monthly income, playing sports, doing household chores, going out of home, watching television, using the internet, attending online classes, changing food habits, and communicating with friends had a positive significant association with mental health burdens. Conclusion Home quarantine has a noticeable adverse impact on the mental health of teenagers. Psychological evaluations and counselling via online and offline programs are essential to improve adolescents' declining mental health conditions.

Abstract
Almost all low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) have instated a program to control and manage non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Population screening is an integral component of this strategy and requires a substantial chunk of investment. Therefore, testing the screening program for economic along with clinical effectiveness is essential. There is significant proof of the benefits of incorporating economic evidence in health decision-making globally, although evidence from LMICs in NCD prevention is scanty. This systematic review aims to consolidate and synthesize economic evidence of screening programs for cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and diabetes from LMICs. The study protocol is registered on PROSPERO (CRD42021275806). The review includes articles from English and Chinese languages. An initial search retrieved a total of 2,644 potentially relevant publications. Finally, 15 articles (13 English and 2 Chinese reports) were included and scrutinized in detail. We found 6 economic evaluations of interventions targeting cardiovascular diseases, 5 evaluations of diabetes interventions, and 4 were combined interventions, i.e., screening of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. The study showcases numerous innovative screening programs that have been piloted, such as using mobile technology for screening, integrating non-communicable disease screening with existing communicable disease screening programs, and using community health workers for screening. Our review reveals that context is of utmost importance while considering any intervention, i.e., depending on the available resources, cost-effectiveness may vary—screening programs can be made universal or targeted just for the high-risk population.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a frequently diagnosed infection in women and children. Treatments are often initiated with broad-spectrum antibiotics without performing any culture and sensitivity test. Inappropriate and empirical antimicrobial regimens and poor adherence to the drugs lead to the recurrence of the disease. Moreover, resistance against antibiotics in the urinary tract bacteria due to inadequate therapies is a more significant cause of concern. This systematic review will explore the different antimicrobial options for treating UTIs in children and compare their effectiveness. METHODS AND ANALYSIS Four electronic databases MEDLINE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Scopus and Web of Science will be searched in February 2022 to find relevant studies. After the initial screening by two independent review authors, the selected articles will go through the full-text evaluation to filter the inclusion criteria. Using an appropriate tool, the risk of bias will also be assessed by two independent review authors. The review results showing the treatment effects of different antimicrobials will be presented as a narrative synthesis, and a meta-analysis will be conducted if applicable. Assessment of heterogeneity between studies, assessment of publication bias, and sensitivity analysis will also be performed. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The study protocol of this systematic review has been approved by the institutional review board of North South University. The dissemination of the results will be conducted in the form of scientific publication in a peer-reviewed journal and presentations in different regional and international conferences. Abstract
Uterine leiomyoma (UL) is the most common gynaecologic tumour, affecting an estimated 70 to 80% of women. Leiomyomas develop from the transformation of myometrial stem cells into leiomyoma stem (or tumour-initiating) cells. These cells undergo self-renewal and differentiation to mature cells, both are necessary for the maintenance of tumour stem cell niche and tumour growth, respectively. Wnt/β-catenin and TGF-β/SMAD pathways, both overactive in UL, promote stem cell self-renewal, crosstalk between stem and mature cells, cellular proliferation, extracellular matrix (ECM) accumulation and drive overall UL growth. Recent evidence suggests that simvastatin, an antihyperlipidemic drug, may have anti-leiomyoma properties. Herein, we investigated the effects of simvastatin on UL stem cells. We isolated leiomyoma stem cells by flow cytometry using DyeCycle Violet staining and Stro-1/CD44 surface markers. We found that simvastatin inhibits proliferation and induces apoptosis in UL stem cells. In addition, it also suppressed the expression of the stemness markers Nanog, Oct4 and Sox2. Simvastatin significantly decreased the production of the key ECM proteins, collagen 1 and fibronectin. Finally, it inhibited genes and/or proteins expression of TGF-β1, 2 and 3, SMAD2, SMAD4, Wnt4, β-Catenin, LRP6, AXIN2 and Cyclin D1 in UL stem cells, all are key drivers of the TGF-β3/SMAD2 and Wnt4/β-Catenin pathways. Thus, we have identified a novel stem cell-targeting anti-leiomyoma simvastatin effect. Further studies are needed to replicate these findings in vivo.

Abstract
AIMS Recent evidence suggests that repetitive hypoxia occurs during menstrual cycles due to vasoconstriction and myometrial contraction. It is unknown if hypoxia contributes to the development of uterine leiomyoma, the most common tumor of the female reproductive system. This study aims to characterize the response to hypoxia in leiomyoma and myometrial cells; and determine if an aberrant leiomyoma response to hypoxia may contribute to leiomyomatogenesis. MAIN METHODS Primary and immortalized leiomyoma and myometrial cells were cultured under normoxic and hypoxic conditions. Expression levels of vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A), adrenomedullin (ADM), endothelin-1 (ET-1), and hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1α) were measured by qRT-PCR, western blotting and ELISA. Cell proliferation was assessed using MTT assay and proliferating-cell-nuclear-antigen (PCNA) expression. KC7F2 (HIF-1α inhibitor) was used to examine the regulating mechanisms. KEY FINDINGS As expected, hypoxia induced HIF-1α expression in both leiomyoma and myometrial cells. However, hypoxia induced VEGF-A, ET-1 and ADM expression and VEGF-A secretion into the culture media in leiomyoma but not myometrial cells. MTT assay and PCNA expression showed that hypoxia induces proliferation in leiomyoma, but not myometrial cells. HIF-1α inhibitor abrogated the hypoxia-induced VEGF-A, ET-1, ADM, and PCNA expression in leiomyoma cells. SIGNIFICANCE This study suggests an aberrant leiomyoma cellular response to hypoxia compared to myometrium. This differential response to menstruation-related repetitive hypoxia episodes may lead to selective proliferation of hypoxia-adaptive leiomyoma cells and contribute to leiomyoma growth. Thus, in addition to adding to our understanding of leiomyoma pathobiology, the study proposes angiogenic factors as a potential leiomyoma therapeutic target.

Abstract
Uterine leiomyomas, the most common tumors of the female reproductive system, are known to have a hypoxic microenvironment. However, the role of such environment in leiomyoma pathobiology remains unknown. The objective was to determine the effects of hypoxia on leiomyoma cells, and the mechanisms. We found that hypoxia induces proliferation and inhibits apoptosis in human leiomyoma cells. This pro-proliferative effect was accompanied by an increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and the expression of NADPH oxidase 4 (NOX4). The specific NOX4 inhibitor GLX351322 abrogated this hypoxia-induced ROS generation, cellular proliferation, and apoptosis inhibition. To further investigate the mechanism of NOX4-mediated proliferation, we treated leiomyoma cells grown in normoxia with media from leiomyoma cells cultured under hypoxia. This resulted in increased ROS generation and NOX4 expression, suggesting the hypoxia-induced effects are mediated by an autocrine mechanism. We worked to identify the nature of this autocrine factor. We found that the expression of TGF-β3 and its downstream signaling target pSmad3, are increased in hypoxic leiomyoma cells. To examine the hypothesis that TGF-β3 is, at least, a part of this autocrine mechanism, we treated hypoxic leiomyoma cells with the HIF-1α inhibitor KC7F2 which we discovered to ameliorate the hypoxia-induced TGF-β3 expression. Furthermore, pharmacologic inhibition with the TGF-β/Smad inhibitor SB431542 reduced hypoxia-induced NOX4 expression and ROS generation and attenuated cell proliferation. Thus, we have identified a novel mechanism by which hypoxia induces proliferation in leiomyoma cells. This finding adds to our understanding of leiomyoma pathobiology and can help in identifying new therapeutic targets.

Abstract
The Wnt/β-catenin pathway is upregulated in uterine leiomyomas, the most common benign tumors in the female reproductive tract. Simvastatin is an antihyperlipidemic drug, and previous in vitro and in vivo reports showed that it may have therapeutic effects in treating leiomyomas. The objective of this study was to examine the effects of simvastatin on the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in leiomyoma. We treated primary and immortalized human leiomyoma cells with simvastatin and examined its effects using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, Western blotting, and immunocytochemistry. We also examined the effects using human leiomyoma tissues from an ongoing randomized controlled trial in which women with symptomatic leiomyoma received simvastatin (40 mg) or placebo for 3 months prior to their surgery. The results of this study revealed that simvastatin significantly reduced the expression of Wnt4 and its co-receptor LRP5. After simvastatin treatment, levels of total β-catenin and its active form, nonphosphorylated β-catenin, were reduced in both cell types. Additionally, simvastatin reduced the expression of Wnt4 and total β-catenin, as well as nonphosphorylated β-catenin protein expression in response to estrogen and progesterone. Simvastatin also inhibited the expression of c-Myc, a downstream target of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway. The effect of simvastatin on nonphosphorylated-β-catenin, the key regulator of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, was recapitulated in human leiomyoma tissue. These results suggest that simvastatin may have a beneficial effect on uterine leiomyoma through suppressing the overactive Wnt/β-catenin pathway.

Abstract
Herbal remedies have been used in many cultures for decades to treat illnesses. These medicinal plants have been found to contain various phytochemical compounds that can help to cure mild to severe illnesses. The inadequacies of conventional medicines and their unusual side effects sparked a determined search for alternative natural therapeutic agents. Another reason for this hunt could be the availability and fewer side effects of natural products. T. arjuna is widely used in traditional medicine to alleviate various diseases like relieving pain, ameliorating diabetes, mitigating inflammation, and back-pedaling of depression. In this study, the ethanolic extract of T. arjuna possesses a promising effect on the animal model (p < 0.05/p < 0.01) as an antihyperglycemic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antidepressant agent, but in a dose-dependent manner. The lower dose of T. arjuna was found to be capable of reversing the disturbed physiological state at a significant level (p < 0.05). However, a higher dose of T. arjuna exerts better therapeutic effects for those diseases. This animal study aims to evaluate the anti-diabetic, anti-depressant, and anti-inflammatory properties of T. arjuna compared to conventional marketed drugs. We will perform an in-silico study for active constituents of T. arjuna against their proposed targets and look for the molecular cascade on their claimed pharmacological properties. This study shows that different doses of T. arjuna bark extracts give similar therapeutic responses compared with established marketed drugs in managing hyperglycemia, stress-induced depression, and inflammation. Besides, our docking study reveals that flavonoids and triterpenoid active constituents of T. arjuna play an important role in its usefulness. This study, therefore, scientifically confirmed the traditional use of this medicinal plant in the management of several diseased conditions.

Abstract
Prescribed fire is an essential tool for wildfire risk mitigation and ecosystem restoration in the Southeastern United States. It is also one of the region's largest sources of atmospheric emissions. The public health impacts of prescribed fire smoke, however, remain uncertain. Here, we use digital burn permit records, reduced-complexity air quality modeling, and epidemiological associations between fine particulate matter concentrations and multiple health endpoints to assess the impacts of prescribed burning on public health across Georgia. Additionally, we examine the social vulnerability of populations near high prescribed burning activity using a demographic- and socioeconomic-based index. The analysis identifies spatial clusters of burning activity in the state and finds that areas with intense prescribed fire have levels of social vulnerability that are over 25% higher than the state average. The results also suggest that the impacts of burning in Georgia can potentially include hundreds of annual morbidity and mortality cases associated with smoke pollution. These health impacts are concentrated in areas with higher fractions of low socioeconomic status, elderly, and disabled residents, particularly vulnerable to air pollution. Estimated smoke-related health incidence rates are over 3 times larger than the state average in spatial clusters of intense burning activity, and over 40% larger in spatial clusters of high social vulnerability. Spatial clusters of low social vulnerability experience substantially lower negative health effects from prescribed burning relative to the rest of the state. The health burden of smoke from prescribed burns in the state is comparable to that estimated for other major emission sectors, such as vehicles and industrial combustion. Within spatial clusters of socially-vulnerable populations, the impacts of prescribed fire considerably outweigh those of other emission sectors. These findings call for greater attention to the air quality impacts of prescribed burning in the Southeastern U.S. and the communities most exposed to fire-related smoke.

Abstract
The effluents from textile industries without proper treatment contains a remarkable amount of synthetic dyes which are harmful to the environment and a big challenge globally to degrade it with a eco-friendly way. Conventional methods are extremely energy-consuming, non-effective and generate a toxic sludge impacting the environment. Several microorganisms can be utilized to treat these effluents. The research deals with five bacteria isolated from textile effluent and their consortium for the biodegradation ability of Novacron dyes. The isolates were identified through the Biolog™ identification system and molecular technique. Biodegradation was confirmed by measuring optical density (OD) optimizing conditions (pH 7.0, temperature 37 °C, 10 % inoculums and 100 mg/L dye) under static condition. The isolates started decolourization at 24 h whereas, the consortium started decolourization at 18 h and exhibited a maximum after 72 h. The presence of low molecular weight protein as metabolite supported the biodegradation and non hazardous to environment. This study revealed that these bacteria might have degradation potentials, and research results will help to set up dye removal eco-friendly methods to expose the dye effulents to environment in future.

Abstract
Uterine leiomyomas or fibroids are the most common tumors of the female reproductive tract. Estrogen (E2), a steroid-derived hormone, and its receptors (ERs), particularly ER-α, are important drivers for the development and growth of leiomyomas. We previously demonstrated that simvastatin, a drug used for hyperlipidemia, also possesses anti-leiomyoma properties. The aim of this work is to investigate the impact of simvastatin on ER-α signaling in leiomyoma cells, including its expression, downstream signaling, transcriptional activity, post-translational modification, trafficking and degradation. Primary and immortalized human uterine leiomyoma (HuLM) cells were used for in vitro experiments. Immunodeficient mice xenografted with human leiomyoma tissue explants were used for in vivo studies. Leiomyoma samples were obtained from patients enrolled in an ongoing double-blinded, phase II, randomized controlled trial. Here, we found that simvastatin significantly reduced E2-induced proliferation and PCNA expression. In addition, simvastatin reduced total ER-α expression in leiomyoma cells and altered its subcellular localization by inhibiting its trafficking to the plasma membrane and nucleus. Simvastatin also inhibited E2 downstream signaling, including ERK and AKT pathways, E2/ER transcriptional activity and E2-responsive genes. To explain simvastatin effects on ER-α level and trafficking, we examined its effects on ER-α post-translational processing. We noticed that simvastatin reduced ER-α palmitoylation; a required modification for its stability, trafficking to plasma membrane, and signaling. We also observed an increase in ubiquitin-mediated ER-α degradation. Importantly, we found that the effects of simvastatin on ER-α expression were recapitulated in the xenograft leiomyoma mouse model and human tissues. Thus, our data suggest that simvastatin modulates several E2/ER signaling targets with potential implications in leiomyoma therapy and beyond.
