Abstract
The study was designed to explore the effect of a commercial yeast cell wall product (YP) on chicken intestinal IgA response and cecum microbiome after oral vaccination. Chickens were fed with YP during the experiments and orally immunized with live Newcastle disease virus (NDV) vaccine at 2 wk of age. Then, the animals were sacrificed, and samples were collected to measure the indicators of hemagglutination inhibition (HI), IgA response, IgA + cells, and cecum microbiome populations. The results showed that supplement of YP significantly enhanced serum NDV HI titer, intestinal NDV-specific secretory IgA, and intestinal IgA + cells. The sequencing results revealed that obviously increased relative abundance of Ruminococcaceae and decreased population of Bacteroidaceae in cecum were found in YP group. In summary, YP supplementation in diet enhanced intestinal IgA response to NDV vaccination by oral route and modulated the cecum microbiota to the advantage of the host in chickens.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of miR-146a gene silencing on brain tissue and related drug-resistance proteins in rats and explore its resistance mechanism. MATERIALS AND METHODS A rat model of chronic refractory epilepsy was established. The rats were divided into four groups: Normal group, Model group, Negative control group and AntagomiR-146a group. Hematoxylin and eosin (HE) stain was used to detect brain histopathological changes. We examined the expression of mRNA of miR-146a, multidrug resistance (MDR1) and multidrug-resistant associated protein (MRP1) by RT-PCR. The expressions of protein of High motility group box 1 (HMGB1)/Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/nuclear transcription factor-κB (NF-κB) pathway and P-glycoprotein (P-gp), MRP1 were detected by Western-blotting. RESULTS We demonstrated that the pathological lesion was lighter in antagomiR-146a group compared with the model group. The mRNA expression of miR-146a in AntagomiR-146a group was significantly decreased compared to the model group. Furthermore, the mRNA expression of MDR1 and MRP1 in AntagomiR-146a group was lower than that in the model group. In addition, the protein expression of HMGB1, TLR4, NF-κB and P-gp, MRP1 in AntagomiR-146a group was lower than that in model group. CONCLUSIONS These results demonstrated that miR-146a gene silencing can attenuate pathological changes and improve drug resistance in refractory epilepsy. Also, it is closely related to the HMGB1/TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway regulation.

Background
CMR based tissue tracking (CMR-TT), considered as a novel modality, provides additional insight into left and right ventricular (LV/RV) mechanical function and deformation. The vendor-specific reference values of global and regional strains for volunteers without history of cardiovascular disease are necessary as an important step in clinical routine to help detect early abnormality.
Purpose
To determine the reference value of LV/RV multi-dimensional global and segmental strains and diagnostic specificity of global longitudinal peak strain (GLS). Biventricular global and segmental radial, circumferential and longitudinal systolic peak strains (GRS, GCS, GLS and SRS, SCS, SLS) of 150 healthy adults in three age subgroups (G20–40, G41–60 and G61–80) were derived by post-hoc imaging software in standard steady-state free precession cine images acquired at 1.5T. LV strains were calculated with three-dimensional (3D) CMR-TT in the modified AHA 16-segment model via a short-axis stack and long axis 2-, 3-, 4-chamber cine images, and RV strains were generated with 2D CMR-TT via 4-chamber cine images.
Results
The reference values of LV global peak strains resulted as 44.4±13.0% for GRS, −17.0±2.7% for GCS, and −15.4±2.3% for GLS, respectively. RV-GLS was measured as −24.9±5.1%. Global and segmental strains might differ between males and females. Females showed significant age-associated difference of LV global peak strains (P<0.05) as the opposite of males (Figure 1). Females also presented higher magnitude of LV global peak strains than males in the eldest group G61–80 (P<0.05). Unlike LV, no age-associated difference of RV-GLS was detected in both gender groups. However, females showed less negative RV-GLS than males in G20–40 and more negative RV-GLS than males older than 40 years old (P<0.05). The local discrepancy of biventricular SRS, SCS and SLS was observed. It seemed that LV mid-cavity played a more essential role on LV shortening (more negative SCS and SLS) than wall thickening (smaller SRS) compared with base and apex. RV basal and mid SLS, derived from segment 1–4, was more negative than apical SLS derived from segment 5–6. The specificity of LV- and RV-GLS cut-off value (mean value+1.96*standard deviation) generated from the vendor-, age- and gender-specific reference value in evaluating heart contractile function reached 97.3% and 94.7%, respectively.
Conclusions
Considering the vendor-, gender- and age-associated difference of biventricular global strains, specific reference values need to be established to facilitate the wide application of strain in clinical routine. Meanwhile, segmental strains are also fundamental for detecting local abnormality of myocardial deformation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND
TMZ, is the first line chemotherapeutic drug for glioma, and drug resistance is one of the most important reasons for glioma treatment failure. Our previous studies have found that: 1) Type I interferon (IFN) could reverse the resistance of TMZ by inhibiting NF-κB activity, and down-regulating the expression of MGMT in vivo and in vitro; 2) IFN-α could significantly improve chemtherapeautic effect of TMZ for GBM patients. We aim to investigate the therapeutic effect of a cocktail chemotherapy regimen combining temozolomide (TMZ)- Levetiracetam(LEV) - interferon (IFN) on human glioma U138 and U251 subcutaneous xenograft tumor.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
30 xenograft tumors were established by subcutaneously injecting 1×106 glioma cells into the right flank of 4-week-old female BALB/C nude mice and then randomly divided into 5 groups (n=6/group): Control group; TMZ group; TMZ+IFN group; TMZ+LEV group; TMZ+LEV+IFN group. Anti-tumor efficacy of five regimens for tumor-bearing mice was tested after treatment with TMZ (50 mg/kg, i.p.), IFN (2×105 IU, s.c.), LEV (150 mg/kg, i.p.), while TMZ dose were reduced to 12.5 mg/kg for U251 tumors. All drugs are given once a day for five consecutive days. After therapy, the size of tumor was measured every day until the control tumors reached 2000 mm3. Mice bearing U138 tumors were sacrificed at 40 days after therapy, and mice bearing U251 tumors were killed at 26 days after therapy.
RESULTS
We identified that both U138 and U251 tumor growth among TMZ group, TMZ+IFN group, TMZ+LEV group and TMZ+LEV+IFN group were significantly inhibited (P<0.05), compared with the control group. Tumor weight of all treating group was lower than that of the control group (P<0.05). The tumor weight of TMZ+LEV+IFN group was the lowest and significantly lower than that of TMZ+LEV group and TMZ group (P<0.05, respectively). No significant difference was found between TMZ+LEV+IFN group and TMZ+IFN group in U251 subcutaneous xenograft tumors, although the tumor weight was lower in TMZ+LEV+IFN group (P>0.05). In the treatment of mice bearing U138 glioma, TMZ+LEV+IFN regimen was significantly superior to TMZ+IFN regimen.
CONCLUSION
Our data demonstrate that both IFN and LEV can sensitize TMZ effect on glioma. TMZ-LEV-IFN cocktail appears the best regimen.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of genioglossus (GG) activation at sleep onset on the outcome of velopharyngeal surgery in obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) patients. Methods: Thirty-five patients between April 2014 and February 2015 in Beijing Tongren Hospital with OSAHS underwent overnight polysomnography with synchronous genioglossus electromyography (GGEMG) using intraoral electrodes. The upper airway (UA) anatomy was evaluated by three-dimensional computer tomography (3D-CT) in OSAHS patients. Then, all of the patients received velopharyngeal surgery, including revised uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) with uvula preservation or UPPP combined transpalatal advancement pharyngoplasty. All patients were followed-up using polysomnography 3-6 months after surgery. T-test or Wilcoxon test were used to compare the variables between groups, and Spearman correlation analysis was used to test the correlation between parameters. Results: Thirty-five patients received velopharyngeal surgery. Twenty-two patients (62.86%) were responders, and 13 patients (37.14%) were non-responders. Responders had a higher mean GGEMG during sleep onset (15.31±3.74 vs. 9.92±2.93, t=4.504, P=0.001). The decreased AHI was significantly positively related to the sleep onset mean GGEMG (r=0.541, P=0.004) and the change in GGEMG (r=0.422, P=0.028). The decreased AHI was significantly negatively related to the minimal cross sectional airway area (mCSA,ρ=0.629,P=0.000) and the minimal lateral airway dimension (mLAT, ρ=0.484, P=0.009) at velopharynx. Conclusions: The outcome of velopharyngeal surgery was affected by the mean GGEMG during sleep onset. We speculated that the patient with higher GGEMG at sleep onset and narrower velopharynx were more suitable candidates for velopharyngeal surgery.

Abstract
This study aimed to identify novel microRNAs (miRNAs) that play crucial regulatory roles in the pathogenesis of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma by retrieving and analyzing the miRNA expression profile GSE23877. Differentially expressed miRNAs between gastric MALT lymphoma samples and human tonsil tissue samples as well as their target genes were identified. The transcriptional regulatory relationships between miRNAs and target genes were analyzed, and the regulatory network between them was constructed. Target genes annotated as transcription factors (TFs) were screened, and an miRNA-target gene regulatory network was established. Moreover, the expression levels of miRNAs and target genes as well as the correlation between them were verified. In total, 53 upregulated and 25 downregulated miRNAs were obtained, for which 35 and 25 experimentally validated miRNA-target interactions, respectively, were screened. Some miRNAs were significantly enriched in certain pathways; for example, miR-320a was enriched in systemic lupus erythematosus and ribosome, miR-622 in the p53 signaling pathway and chronic myeloid leukemia, and miR-429 in cancer-related pathways. In addition, upregulated miRNAs, including miR-320a, miR-940, and miR-622, and downregulated miRNAs, including miR-331-3p and miR-429, were hub nodes in the miRNA-target gene regulatory network, and the TF MYC was a co-target of miR-320a, miR-622, and miR-429. The expression trends of miR-320a and miR-429 as well as of some of their target genes were consistent with those in the results of microarray analysis. In conclusion, miR-320a, miR-622, and miR-429 are possibly novel miRNAs participating in the pathomechanism of gastric MALT lymphoma.

Abstract
To avoid the need for a mask and polarisation-adjusting devices, and to solve the problem of low fringe contrast caused by the reflected light along with 0th-order diffraction beam, this paper presents an illumination method using three nonzero-order diffraction beams in liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS)-based structured illumination microscopy. Here, a LCOS-based spatial light modulator (SLM) is used to diffract the collimated light and a rotating frosted film is used to reduce the spatial coherence of the laser; then, the fringe is produced by adjusting the SLM angle to allow three nonzero-order diffraction beams to interfere on the sample surface. Interference fringes with high contrast in all directions can be obtained without considering polarisation control and the removal of the 0th-order diffraction beam, which demonstrates that the optical setup is simple and easy to control. We carried out experiments on a photolithographic pattern on a silicon chip, and the resolution after reconstruction is 210 nm, reaching the theoretical resolution at our experiment condition and nearly half of the Rayleigh resolution limit (100× objective, NA = 0.8), which is 406 nm. LAY DESCRIPTION: SIM has been widely applied in imaging of biological sample owing to its advantage of super-resolution. Commonly the structured illumination is produced by interfering two or three diffractive beams and the fringe contrast affects the reconstruction result directly. In this study about liquid-crystal-on-silicon based structured illumination microscopy (LCOS-based SIM), we presents an illumination method using three nonzero-order diffractive beams. Our method can avoid the need for a mask and the polarisation-adjusting devices, because three-beam interference can reduce the influence of polarisation on the fringe contrast. Besides, 0th-order beam is not used, because reflected light still exists even the grey level of the picture-pixels uploaded to spatial light modulator are all 0, which means the 0th-order beam will bring obvious noise. Using our method, interference fringe with high contrast in all directions can be obtained at a relatively high utilisation rate of laser intensity without considering the control of polarisation. Our setup is simple and easy to control, because the adjustment of the deflection angle of the spatial light modulator can realise the removal of the zero diffraction order. We have analysed and discussed the reasons why the interference of three nonzero-order beams can avoid the influence of polarisation and amplitude. The experiments carried out on a photolithographic pattern on silicon chip showed that the resolution after reconstruction is 210 nm, reaching the half of the Rayleigh resolution limit (100× objective, NA=0.8), which is 406 nm.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the predictive value of umbilical arterial cord pH on complications of hospitalized neonates after cesarean section. METHODS This was a retrospective cohort study and carried out in Peking University First Hospital from January 1, 2017 to June 30, 2017. Neonates who were delivered by cesarean section were enrolled. The primary endpoint was the incidence of complications during in-hospital stay (including infection, aspiration pneumonia, myocardial damage, etc.). The subjects were divided into two groups:with or without complication. The umbilical arterial cord pH values were compared between the two groups. Perinatal baseline characteristics of maternal and neonatal data were recorded. The ROC curve was used to analyze the value of umbilical arterial cord pH in predicting neonatal complications during hospitalization. Multivariate Logistic regression was employed to analyze the potential risk factors of neonatal complications. RESULTS In the study, 872 neonates were included in the final analysis (541 in elective surgery and 331 in emergency surgery). The overall incidence of neonatal complications during hospitalization was 14.1%. The first three higher incidences were infection, aspiration pneumonia and myocardial damage. The average pH value in neonates without complication was 7.31 while 7.29 in neonates with complication. There was statistical significance between the two groups (P<0.001). The overall incidence of pH≤7.20 was 3.1% (27/872). The patients in neonates without complication had higher incidence of pH≤7.20 than those in neonates with complication (1.6% vs. 12.2%, P<0.001). Multivariate Logistic regression showed 6 risk factors of neonatal hospitalized complications including preterm delivery (OR=8.224, 95%CI: 4.910-13.777, P<0.001), pregnancy-induced hypertension (OR=1.886, 95%CI: 1.004-3.546, P=0.049), intrauterine growth restriction (OR=4.429, 95%CI: 1.280-15.330, P=0.019), emergency cesarean section (OR=2.711, 95%CI: 1.682-4.369, P<0.001), umbilical arterial blood gas pH≤7.20 (OR=7.420, 95%CI: 2.951-18.655, P<0.001) and 5-minute Apgar score <10 scores (OR=11.849, 95%CI: 3.977-35.128, P<0.001). The areas under the ROC curve of umbilical arterial blood gas pH in all neonatal, elective and emergency cesarean section were 0.570 (95%CI: 0.508-0.633, P=0.012), 0.559 (95%CI: 0.465-0.652, P=0.189) and 0.617 (95%CI: 0.538-0.697, P=0.002), respectively. CONCLUSION Umbilical arterial cord pH≤7.20 was related with increased incidence of neonatal complications after cesarean section,but ROC curve analysis showed a lower predictive value.

Abstract
High-throughput through-focus scanning optical microscopy (TSOM) involves defocusing along the optical axis and capturing a series of defocus images and is useful in optical nanoscale measurement. However, TSOM is usually affected by its optical and mechanical noises. In this study, the issue of sensitivity and application in three-dimensional (3D) multiple parameter measurement of TSOM is investigated. First, a TSOM system with objective scanning and its relative simulation algorithm are proposed. Second, based upon the system and algorithm, an experiment on an isolated Au line is performed and the corresponding matching library is established. Comparing the experimental TSOM image and simulated TSOM images of the library, 3D multiple parameter results of the Au line are extracted. Third, the precision of the system is analysed through a fidelity test particular for through-focus images. According to this study, the system is robust to the optical and mechanical noises and hence could be useful in 3D multiple parametric measurement and high-volume nanomanufacturing.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Effective diagnostic methods for detecting latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) are important for its eradication. A number of studies have evaluated the use of interferon-γ-induced protein 10 (IP-10), which is elevated after tuberculosis infection, as a biomarker for LTBI, but conclusive results regarding its effectiveness have not been reported. OBJECTIVES Our objective was to assess the diagnostic value of IP-10 for LTBI. DATA SOURCES We searched the PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library and Web of Science databases to find eligible studies. STUDY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA We included cohort, case-control and cross-sectional studies that evaluated IP-10 in LTBI participants in comparison with tuberculin skin tests (TST) and interferon-γ release assays (IGRA). PARTICIPANTS Individuals with LTBI and uninfected participants. INTERVENTIONS IP-10 (index test) compared with TST and IGRA (reference standard) for diagnosing LTBI. METHODS PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases were searched up to June 2018. A hierarchical summary receiver operating characteristic (HSROC) model was used to evaluate the pooled sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio (PLR), negative likelihood ratio (NLR), diagnostic odds ratio (DOR), and HSROC curve for the diagnostic efficiency of IP-10. RESULTS Twelve studies including 1023 participants and 1122 samples were included. The overall pooled sensitivity was 0.85 (95% CI 0.80-0.88), specificity was 0.89 (95% CI 0.84-0.92), PLR was 7.55 (95% CI 5.20-10.97), NLR was 0.17 (95% CI 0.13-0.22) and DOR was 44.23 (95% CI 28.86-67.79), indicating a high accuracy for diagnosing LTBI. Based on a meta-regression analysis, high-burden countries, study design, IP-10 method, reference standard and the IP-10 cut-off could not explain the heterogeneity (p >0.05). CONCLUSIONS Our results suggested that IP-10 is a promising biomarker for the diagnosis of LTBI.

Abstract
Objective: To study the cytotoxicity of Robo1-CAR-NK92 cells against U87-MG and SH-SY5Y cells, to explore the effects of IL-15, IL-21 and dexamethasone on the proliferation, survival and cytotoxicity of Robo1-CAR-NK92 cells and to optimize the culture protocol. Methods: Robo1-CAR-NK92 cells were constructed by lentivirus transfection.The Robo1 car positive cells were sorted, expanded and detected by flow cytometry.The levels of Robo1 expression in SH-SY5Y and U87-MG cells were examined by flow cytometry.The cytotoxicity of Robo1-CAR-NK92 or NK92 cells against target cells was tested by CCK-8 and live cell imaging. The levels of cytokines in the supernatant of cultured cells during the cytotoxicity assay were quantified by the multiplex bead-array assay.NK92 and Robo1-CAR-NK92 cells (4×10(4)/ml) were treated with 25 ng/ml of IL-15, 25 ng/ml of IL-21 and/or 50 nmol/L dexamethasone for 3 days and were stained with trypan blue to acquire the viable cell numbers and survival rates. Results: Robo1-CAR-NK92 cells were constructed and tested 98.89% positive after sorting and expansion. While 88.14% of U87-MG cells were Robo1 positive, there were 99.75% of Robo1 positive SH-SY5Y cells.The specific lysis of Robo1-CAR-NK92 cells against target cells was significantly higher than that of NK92 cells (P<0.05). Robo1-CAR-NK92 cells obviously secreted more cytokines including IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α and IFN-γ than parental NK92 cells during cytotoxic activity against U87-MG cells (P<0.05). IL-15 significantly increased the proliferation and survival of Robo1-CAR-NK92 cells, but IL-21 played the opposite role.Remarkably, IL-21 and IL-15+ IL-21 enhanced the cytotoxicity of NK92 and Robo1-CAR-NK92 cells.The combination of dexamethasone and interleukins dramatically promoted the proliferation and survival but obviously impaired the cytotoxicity of NK92 and Robo1-CAR-NK92 cells (except that IL+ 15 and dexamethasone have no effect on the cytotoxicity of Robo1-CAR-NK92 cells). Conclusions: Compared to parental NK92 cells, Robo1-CAR-NK92 cells exhibited more potent targeted killing against glioma and neuroblastoma cells.Collectively, treatment of IL-15 and dexamethasone was the optimized protocol for culture of Robo1 CAR NK cells during our experimental time.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate a novel apical U-shape splitting technique for horizontal bone augmentation in undercut areas and to compare its efficacy with that of guided bone regeneration (GBR). This was a prospective non-randomized controlled clinical trial. A total of 36 patients, who presented with a labial undercut that was not able to house a normally inclined implant, underwent the new technique or GBR. Radiographic and clinical data were obtained preoperatively, immediately after surgery, and 12 months after surgery. Pairwise comparisons of changes in ridge width gain, marginal bone loss, and pink aesthetic score were performed; correlations with pristine ridge morphology were investigated. The results showed similar marginal bone loss in the two groups. The overall ridge width gains in the new technique group (2.56±1.92mm) and GBR group (0.73±1.21mm) differed significantly (P<0.05). The pink aesthetic score was higher for the new technique group (11.75±1.22) than for the GBR group (9.25±1.86) (P<0.01). The morphology of the concavity had different impacts on regeneration in the two groups. The apical U-shape splitting technique, as a safe and effective alternative to GBR, provided a significant increase in bone volume gain where labial fenestration was inevitable during implant placement.

Abstract
Due to the large slope and complex geometry, it is difficult to measure the three-dimensional parameters of cutting tools and drill bits by using general optical measurement method. A method that combines the multiview rotation scanning and nonmechanical focus variation by using a liquid lens is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the workpiece is rotated by using a rotation unit, and in every rotation position, a sequence of images of the workpiece are captured in the axial direction. Secondly, the relative degree of focus is measured for all pixels by using focus measure operators to obtain the depth value corresponding to each pixel. Thirdly, a multiview registration algorithm is designed to combine all the individual data sets at each rotation position into a whole three-dimensional point cloud. Finally, the three-dimensional parameters of the rake angle and clearance angle of the gear, screw tap and drills are measured. The proposed method is lateral shift-free and no light intensity variation, so it can obtain better accuracy. The experimental results show that the accuracy of the axial measurement reaches 2.4 μm (2σ, Nikon 5×/0.1). Abstract
Emerging evidence indicates a link between the increased proportion of regulatory T cells (Tregs ) and reduced survival in patients who have been diagnosed with cancer. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) have been indicated to play a vital role in tumour initiation, drug resistance and recurrence. However, the relationship between Tregs and CSCs remains largely unknown. Here, we sorted out ovarian cancer stem-like side population (SP) cells and CD133+ cells to investigate the influence of ovarian CSCs on Tregs . Among the various immune-related molecules that we assessed, C-C motif chemokine ligand 5 (CCL5) was the most elevated in ovarian CSCs relative to that in the non-CSCs. The expression of its receptor, C-C motif chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5), was also increased on the surface of Tregs in ovarian cancer patients. This receptor-ligand expression profile indicated that ovarian CSCs recruit Tregs via CCL5-CCR5 interactions. We further assessed the expression of interleukin (IL)-10 in Tregs cultured with different cancer cells. Tregs cultured in conditioned medium (CM) from ovarian CD133+ cells expressed a higher level of IL-10 than Tregs cultured in CM from CD133- cells, indicating that Tregs exert pronounced immune-inhibitory functions in CSC-rich environments. Furthermore, co-culture with ovarian cancer cell lines induced the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP9) in Tregs which, in turn, enhanced the degradation of the extracellular matrix and enabled the invasion of tumour cells, thereby facilitating tumour metastasis. For the first time, to our knowledge, our findings describe the relationship between ovarian CSCs and Tregs , and demonstrated that these two cell populations co-operate to promote tumour immune tolerance and enhance tumour progression.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of perioperational management of gynecological cancer patients with severe internal medical complications. Methods: We collected 37 cases of gynecological cancer patients with severe internal medical complications who were hospitalized in Peking University First Hospital from Jan. 2010 to Nov. 2014. All of the cases were planned to move to ICU right after operation based on the preoperational assessment of anesthetist and physician. The median age was 69.4 years, and 25 cases (68%,25/37) of them were over 70 years old. The pathological types, preoperational complications, preoperational preparation, process of anesthesia and surgery, post-operational short-term morbidity were retrospectively analyzed. Results: (1) Pathological type: among 37 cases of gynecological cancer patients, 16 cases of endometrial cancer, 12 cases of ovarian cancer, 5 cases of vulvar cancer, 3 cases of uterine sarcoma and 1 case of fallopian cancer. (2) Preoperational complication: all the patients had more than 2 types of internal complications, 34 cases (92%, 34/37)of them had no less than 3 types of internal complications. The preoperational complications mainly included 25 cases of hypertension, 13 cases of coronary heart disease and 5 cases of arrhythmia, 5 cases of history of cerebral infarction or hemorrhage, 19 cases of diabetes and 1 case of obesity, 6 cases of allergic asthma and history of pulmonary embolism. (3) Preoperational preparation: medication were taken according to internal physicians to make blood pressure lower than 140/90 mmHg(1 mmHg=0.133 kPa), fasting blood glucose lower than 8.0 mmol/L, postprandial blood glucose lower than 10.0 mmol/L and cardiac function return to a generally normal status. (4) Process of anesthesia and surgery: 37 cases completed operation successfully after preoperational anesthetic assessment and internal medication. No perioperational death was observed. (5) Post-operational morbidity: 17 cases of post-operational short-term morbidity were observed before discharge, including 9 cases of poor wound healing, 5 cases of gastro-intestinal dysfunction and 3 cases of pulmonary infection. All of them were improved or cured. Conclusion: Surgery is safe and applicable to gynecological cancer patients with severe internal medical complications on the compressive management of anesthesia assessment, perioperational internal adjustment and post-operational multi-discipline treatment.

Abstract
During early lactation, glucose availability is low and the effect of glucose supply on bovine polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMNL) function is poorly understood. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of glucose supplementation on the function and transcriptomic inflammatory response of PMNL from cows in early and mid-lactation in vitro. Twenty Holstein cows in early (n=10; days in milk=17±3.1) and mid-lactation (n=10; days in milk=168±14.8) were used for this study. Jugular blood was analyzed for serum concentrations of nonesterified fatty acids, β-hydroxybutyrate, and glucose. Polymorphonuclear leukocytes were isolated and diluted using RPMI (basal glucose concentration was 7.2 mM) to different concentrations of PMNL/mL for phagocytosis, chemotaxis, gene expression, and medium analyses. Working solutions of glucose (0 or 4 mM of d-glucose) and lipopolysaccharide (0 or 50μg/mL) were added and tubes were incubated for 120 min at 37°C. Media were analyzed for concentrations of glucose and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Data were analyzed in a randomized block (stage of lactation) design. Challenge with lipopolysaccharide increased the expression of the genes encoding for nuclear factor kappa B (NFKB1), IL-10 (IL10), IL1B, IL6, IL8, TNF-α (TNFA), glucose transporter 3 (SLC2A3), and the concentration of TNF-α in medium (147.3 vs. 72.5 pg/mL for lipopolysaccharide and control, respectively). Main effect of stage of lactation was minimal where the expression of IL10 increased for cows in early compared with cows in mid-lactation. After lipopolysaccharide challenge, cows in early lactation experienced more marked increases in the expression of IL6, TNFA, and IL8 when compared with cows in mid-lactation. Glucose supplementation had minimal effects on gene expression where glucose supplementation increased the expression of lysozyme (LYZ). Glucose supplementation increased PMNL phagocytosis but did not alter chemotaxis, morphology, or concentration of TNF-α in the medium. Under the conditions of the experiment, stage of lactation had minimal effects on PMNL response to glucose supply where only the expression of NFKB1 and the production of TNF-α were greater for cows in mid-lactation when compared with early lactation. Metabolic profiles for cows in early lactation did not parallel those for cows during the early postpartum period and may partly explain results for this study. Future studies investigating the effect of glucose supply on bovine PMNL function in vivo and how this may be altered by stage of lactation are warranted.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The fractional laser and topical retinoic acid treatment have been applied for skin rejuvenation; however, the possible molecular mechanism of promoting remodeling of dermis is not clearly. Here we aimed to compare the effects of 10600 nm CO2 fractional laser and topical retinoic acid formulation on the skin collagen proliferation of Wistar rats, and to further explore the possible molecular mechanism of promoting remodeling of dermis. MATERIALS AND METHODS The hair on the back of Wistar rats was removed, and the back was divided equally into four regions with the cross-streaking method: A (the control group), B (the retinoic acid group), C (retinoic acid and fractional laser combination treatment group), and D (the fractional laser group). Specimens were collected at 3rd day and in 1-8 weeks after CO2 fractional laser irradiation; then they were used for detection of the changes of dermis thickness and content of hydroxyproline in the four regions of the rats' back. Real-time PCR method was used to detect the dynamic changes of the expression level of type III procollagen mRNA and the expression levels of miR-29a, Akt and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) mRNA at 3rd week in the skin tissue of Wistar rats. RESULTS The thickness of dermis, content of hydroxyproline and expression level of type III procollagen mRNA in the treatment groups (B, C, and D) were found all significantly increased compared with those in the control group (A) (p<0.05); at 3rd week, up-regulation of Akt and TGF-β mRNA expression and down-regulation of miR-29a mRNA expression were observed in the treatment groups (B, C, and D). The difference in the combination treatment group (C) was the most significant (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS These results demonstrate that retinoic acid formulation and CO2 fractional laser both can promote collagen proliferation and reconstruction, with the skin rejuvenation efficacy in group C > group D > group B. miR-29a/Akt/TGF-β signal pathways may play a certain role in the promotion of collagen synthesis and proliferation.

Abstract
The Forkhead box C1 (FOXC1) transcription factor is involved in normal embryonic development and regulates the development and function of many organs. Most recently, a large body of literature has shown that FOXC1 plays a critical role in tumor development and metastasis. Clinical studies have demonstrated that elevated FOXC1 expression is associated with poor prognosis in many cancer subtypes, such as basal-like breast cancer (BLBC). FOXC1 is highly and specifically expressed in BLBC as opposed to other breast cancer subtypes. Its functions in breast cancer have been extensively explored. This review will summarize current knowledge on the function and regulation of FOXC1 in tumor development and progression with a focus on BLBC as well as the implications of these new findings in cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to study the effects of arachidonic acid (ARA) in a rat brain ischemia/reperfusion model induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). A total of 50 rats were randomly divided into five groups: control group, MCAO group, MCAO + ARA 0.3 g/kg group, MCAO + ARA 1 g/kg group, and MCAO + ARA 3 g/kg group. The MCAO + ARA groups received ARA by intraperitoneal injection daily for 14 consecutive days, while the rats in the control and MCAO groups were given equivalent volume of saline. We detected the Morris water maze test and pathological changes to investigate the ischemia/reperfusion injury. The protein levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha and interleukin-6 in the hippocampus were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits. In addition, the activities of superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and malondialdehyde were assayed in hippocampus homogenates to evaluate the oxidative stress after ischemia/reperfusion. The results indicated that ARA administration decreased biochemical parameters of inflammation and oxidative stress. Morris water maze test and histopathological examination further verified the protective effects of ARA on ischemia/reperfusion injury rats. These findings demonstrated that ARA could protect MCAO-induced brain injury rats by inhibition of inflammation and oxidative stress, suggesting that it may have potential as a therapy for cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.

Abstract
WHAT IS KNOWN AND OBJECTIVE Hyperthermia is an effective treatment modality that augments the anticancer effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Hyperthermia-chemo-radiotherapy (HCRT) is a combination therapy that can strengthen anticancer effects through a synergistic interaction between heat, chemotherapy and radiation. Here, we carried out a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of chemoradiation combined with regional hyperthermia (HCRT) for oesophageal carcinoma. METHODS We conducted computer searches of foreign databases, including Cochrane Library, PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and Chinese databases, including CBM, CNKI and WanFang; we also retrieved other sources as supplement. All relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were collected to compare HCRT and other therapies, including chemotherapy combined with radiotherapy (CRT) and radiotherapy alone (RT). After literature screening, data extraction and quality evaluation performed by appropriate criteria, the meta-analyses were conducted using RevMan 5.1 software (The Nordic Cochrane Centre, The Cochrane Collaboration, Copenhagen, Denmark). RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Nineteen RCTs were included, comprising 1519 patients. Meta-analysis showed that the 1-, 3-, 5- and 7-year survival, complete response and total effective rates of the HCRT group were higher than those of the CRT group; the rates of gastrointestinal reaction, leucocytopenia and radiation oesophagitis in the HCRT group were lower than those of the CRT group, indicating significant differences (P < 0·05). The 1-, 2-, 3- and 5-year survival, complete response and total effective rates of the HCRT group were higher than those of the RT group, the recurrence and distant metastasis rates of the HCRT group were lower than those of the RT group, and there were significant differences in all of the indicators (P < 0·05). WHAT IS NEW AND CONCLUSIONS This is the first systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate HCRT for oesophageal carcinoma. Compared with CRT or RT, HCRT can improve long-term and short-term curative effects; it is also safe and feasible. Additional high-quality and large sample size RCTs will be necessary to further demonstrate the long-term survival benefits and comprehensive safety profile of HCRT.

Abstract
Esophageal cancer is the sixth leading cause of cancer-associated death worldwide. Phospholipase C epsilon 1 (PLCE1) gene was found to be associated with the risk of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) by three large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in Chinese populations. To evaluate the association between the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in PLCE1 gene and ESCC risk, a case-control study including 550 patients with ESCC and 550 age, gender-matched controls was carried out to investigate the genetic susceptibility of three SNPs (rs3765524 C/T and two unreported potentially functional SNPs rs10882379 G/A and rs829232 G/A) as well as the interactions of gene-gene and gene-environment in the development of ESCC. And the results showed that GA genotype of rs10882379 was significantly associated with reduced ESCC risk compared with GG genotype (adjusted OR [95% CI]: 0.66 [0.51, 0.86]), while AA genotype of rs829232 was significantly associated with increased ESCC risk compared with GG genotype (adjusted OR [95% CI]: 1.37 [1.12, 1.67]). The haplotype analysis showed increased ESCC risk in Grs10882379Crs3765524Ars829232 and Grs10882379Trs3765524Ars829232 haplotypes with OR (95% CI) of 1.40 (1.13, 1.73) and 1.66 (1.18, 2.34), respectively and inversely reduced ESCC risk in Ars10882379Crs3765524Grs829232 haplotype with OR (95% CI) of 0.74 (0.61, 0.91). The gene-environment interaction analysis emerged a best model consisted of four factors (rs10882379, rs3765524, rs829232 and family history of ESCC) that could increase the ESCC risk in the 'high risk group' with 4.45-fold (OR [95% CI]: 5.45 [4.13, 7.19]), compared to the 'low risk group.' Our results further validate that the SNPs in PLCE1 gene may contribute to the ESCC susceptibility in Chinese Han population. Also the gene-gene and gene-environment interactions play a certain crucial role in the ESCC progression.

Abstract
AIMS To compare, in an open-label, randomized, crossover phase II substudy, the glucodynamics of insulin glargine and those of basal insulin peglispro (BIL) in patients with type 1 diabetes. METHODS Patients (n = 23) underwent 24-h euglycaemic clamps after 8 weeks of treatment with glargine or with BIL. Clinically-titrated basal insulin doses (BIL group 16-64 U; glargine group 19-60 U) were administered on the morning of the clamp. RESULTS At baseline, the patients' mean ± standard deviation (s.d.) body mass index was 26.78 ± 4.20 kg/m2 and glycated haemoglobin was 7.69 ± 0.99%. The mean ± s.d. endpoint dose for the BIL group was 0.42 ± 0.13 U/kg and for the glargine group was 0.42 ± 0.10. The daily mean ± s.d. blood glucose concentration was 7.7 ± 1.2 in the BIL group and 7.9 ± 1.2 mmol/l in the glargine group (p = 0.641). The mean ± s.d. total and nocturnal hypoglycaemia rates/30 days were 2.7 ± 2.3 and 0.5 ± 0.8, respectively, for the BIL group, and 3.0 ± 2.4 and 0.7 ± 1.1, respectively, for the glargine group (p = 0.112 and 0.428). The mean glucose infusion rate (GIR) normalized to insulin unit was lower for BIL than for glargine. One patient in the glargine group and eight patients in the BIL group had minimal (<0.8 g/kg) GIRs over 24 h. The mean ± s.d. total glucose infused over 24 h (GTOT(0-24) ) was 1.22 ± 0.82 g/kg in the BIL group and 1.90 ± 1.01 g/kg in the glargine group (p = 0.002). The mean ± s.d. total glucose infused during hours 0-6 (GTOT(0-6) ) was 0.21 ± 0.22 in the BIL group and 0.41 ± 0.22 g/kg in the glargine group (p < 0.001), while the mean total glucose infused during hours 18-24 (GTOT(18-24) ) in the BIL group was 0.28 ± 0.18 g/kg and in the glargine group was 0.35 ± 0.23 g/kg (p = 0.198). The peak-to-trough ratio was 1.41 for BIL versus 2.22 for glargine. CONCLUSIONS BIL has a flatter profile than glargine, with potentially more stable metabolic control. The lower GTOT(0-24) observed in the BIL group is consistent with BIL's reduced peripheral action.

Abstract
AIMS To compare the efficacy and safety of basal insulin peglispro (BIL), which has a flat pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profile and a long duration of action, with insulin glargine (GL) in patients with type 1 diabetes. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this phase III, 52-week, blinded study, we randomized 1114 adults with type 1 diabetes in a 3 : 2 distribution to receive either BIL (n = 664) or GL (n = 450) at bedtime, with preprandial insulin lispro, using intensive insulin management. The primary objective was to compare glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) in the groups at 52 weeks, with a non-inferiority margin of 0.4%. RESULTS At 52 weeks, mean (standard error) HbA1c was 7.38 (0.03)% with BIL and 7.61 (0.04)% with GL {difference -0.22% [95% confidence interval (CI) -0.32, -0.12]; p < 0.001}. At 52 weeks more BIL-treated patients reached HbA1c <7% (35% vs 26%; p < 0.001), the nocturnal hypoglycaemia rate was 47% lower (p < 0.001) and the total hypoglycaemia rate was 11% higher (p = 0.002) than in GL-treated patients, and there was no difference in severe hypoglycaemia rate. Patients receiving BIL lost weight, while those receiving GL gained weight [difference -1.8 kg (95% CI -2.3, -1.3); p < 0.001]. Treatment with BIL compared with GL at 52 weeks was associated with greater increases from baseline in levels of serum triglyceride [difference 0.19 mmol/l (95% CI 0.11, 0.26); p < 0.001] and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels [difference 6.5 IU/l (95% CI 4.1, 8.9), p < 0.001], and more frequent injection site reactions. CONCLUSIONS In patients with type 1 diabetes, treatment with BIL compared with GL for 52 weeks resulted in a lower HbA1c, more patients with HbA1c levels <7%, and reduced nocturnal hypoglycaemia, but more total hypoglycaemia and injection site reactions and higher triglyceride and ALT levels.

Abstract
RIZ1 is a tumor suppressor gene. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the inhibitory effect of RIZ1 gene therapy on the growth of SiHa cervical cancer cells and its synergism with paclitaxel. The expression levels of RIZ1 were examined by real-time PCR and western blotting before and after transfection of RIZ1. The effects of paclitaxel or pcDNA3.1(+)-RIZ1 alone or in combination, on the proliferation of SiHa cells were evaluated by MTT method. The inhibitory effect on the proliferation of SiHa cells was more significant in the pcDNA3.1(+)-RIZ1 combined with paclitaxel group than in the pcDNA3.1(+)-RIZ1 or paclitaxel groups (P<0.05). The expression level of RIZ1 in SiHa cells increased after treatment with paclitaxel, which indicated a synergism between them. RIZ1 gene therapy combined with paclitaxel showed stronger cell inhibition than paclitaxel alone, which indicated a synergism between them.

Abstract
Physicochemical properties of coordination compounds can be exploited for molecular recognition of biomolecules. The inherent π-π stacking properties of [Pt(chelate)(N-donor)]2+ ([PtN4]) complexes were modulated by systematic variation of the chelate (diethylenetriamine and substituted derivatives) and N-donor (nucleobase or nucleoside) in the formally substitution-inert PtN4 coordination sphere. Approaches to target the HIV nucleocapsid protein HIVNCp7 are summarized building on (i) assessment of stacking interactions with simple tryptophan or tryptophan derivatives to (ii) the tryptophan-containing C-terminal zinc finger and (iii) to the full two-zinc finger peptide and its interactions with RNA and DNA. The xanthosine nucleoside was identified as having significantly enhanced stacking capability over guanosine. Correlation of the LUMO energies of the modified nucleobases with the DFT π-stacking energies shows that frontier orbital energies of the individual monomers can be used as a first estimate of the π-stacking strength to Trp. Cellular accumulation studies showed no significant correlation with lipophilicity of the compounds, but all compounds had very low cytotoxicity suggesting the potential for antiviral selectivity. The conceptual similarities between nucleobase alkylation and platination validates the design of formally substitution-inert coordination complexes as weak Lewis acid electrophiles for selective peptide targeting.
