Abstract
This study was conducted to compare the association between depression and cardiovascular disease risk factors among Korean adults. This study was based on the data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted in 2012-2014. Using a multivariable logistic regression model, we calculated odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). A total of 10,359 subjects aged 19-64 years were selected, and 432 subjects (74 men, 358 women) were included in the physician-diagnosed depression group. Several cardiovascular risk factors were associated with higher odds of clinical depression. For men, high waist circumference (≥91.3 cm) and body mass index (≥25.0 kg/m2) were significantly associated with increased odds of depression, and high physical activity (≥50 MET h/week) was associated with decreased odds of depression. Men with dyslipidemia and metabolic syndrome had 2.43-fold and 2.0-fold higher odds of depression than those without the diseases. For women, current smokers had 2.25-fold higher odds of depression than nonsmokers, and frequent alcohol drinkers (≥4 times/week) also had 2.88-fold higher odds of depression than nondrinkers. Korean adults with clinical depression had a higher prevalence of some risk factors for cardiovascular diseases than those without depression.

Abstract
Intradialytic hypotension during dialysis adversely affects a patient’s prognosis and increases mortality. We report a case in which intradialytic hypotension that persisted after the administration of midodrine was relieved after the use of fludrocortisone. Administration of 0.2 mg of fludrocortisone occurred 30 minutes before dialysis. We compared 45 sessions of dialysis without fludrocortisone administration and 45 sessions of dialysis with fludrocortisone administration in one patient. The number of times in which systolic blood pressure became lower than 80 mmHg and the number of early terminations of dialysis due to a decrease in systolic blood pressure were higher in the sessions without fludrocortisone administration than in the sessions with fludrocortisone administration (P < 0.05). Fludrocortisone may be helpful for the treatment of intradialytic hypotension that does not respond to midodrine administration.

Abstract
PurposeTo assess tear cytokine levels and clinical outcomes in meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) in the blind eye of patients wearing an ocular prosthesis after 2 months of treatment with topical loteprednol etabonate and eyelid scrubs with warm compresses.Patients and methodsThis study included patients with MGD wearing a unilateral ocular prosthesis for more than 1 year. All patients topically received 0.5% loteprednol etabonate and were instructed to scrub their eyelids with warm compresses on the prosthetic eye for 2 months. We evaluated tear cytokine levels using Multiplex Bead Immunoassays, performed biomicroscopic examination of the lid margins and meibomian gland, conducted meibography imaging, and assessed MGD-related ocular symptoms using a questionnaire for the prosthetic eye before and 2 months after treatment.ResultsThirty consecutive patients were included. There were significant reductions in the levels of interleukin (IL)-6, interferon-γ, monocyte chemotactic protein-1, IL-8, tumor necrosis factor-α, and IL-1β (P<0.001 for each cytokine). Moreover, there were improvements in ocular symptoms (P=0.001), lid margin abnormalities (P<0.001), meibomian gland expressibility (P<0.001) and meibography findings (P=0.037).ConclusionTopical loteprednol etabonate in conjunction with eyelid scrubs and warm compresses were effective in treating MGD in prosthetic eye wearers. Furthermore, tear cytokine measurements may serve as an additional approach for evaluating the efficacy of anti-inflammatory treatment for MGD in prosthetic eye wearers.

Abstract
Inflammatory damage of mucosal surface of the eye is a hallmark of dry eye disease (DED) and, in severe cases, can lead to significant discomfort, visual impairment, and blindness. DED is a multifactorial autoimmune disorder with a largely unknown pathogenesis. Using a cross-sectional patient study and a well-characterized murine model of DED, herein we investigated the immunoregulatory function of interleukin-22 (IL-22) in the pathogenesis of DED. We found that IL-22 levels were elevated in lacrimal fluids of DED patients and inversely correlated with severity of disease. Acinar cells of the lacrimal glands (LGs), not inflammatory immune cells, are the primary source of IL-22, which suppresses inflammation in ocular surface epithelial cells upon desiccating stress. Moreover, loss of function analyses using IL-22 knockout mice demonstrated that IL-22 is essential for suppression of ocular surface infiltration of Th17 cells and inhibition of DED induction. Our novel findings elucidate immunoregulatory function of LG-derived IL-22 in inhibiting IL-17-mediated ocular surface epitheliopathy in DED thus making IL-22 a new relevant therapeutic target.

Abstract
Our aim was to prospectively evaluate the relationship between low back pain-related disability and quantitative measures from [18F]-sodium fluoride ([18F]-NaF) MR imaging. Six patients with facetogenic low back pain underwent dynamic [18F]-NaF PET/MR imaging. PET metrics were correlated with clinical measures and MR imaging grading of lumbar facet arthropathy. A significant positive correlation was observed between maximum facet joint uptake rate and clinical disability (P < .05). These data suggest that dynamic [18F]-NaF PET may serve as a useful biomarker for facetogenic disability.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the clinical implications of cysteine-rich angiogenic inducer 61 (CYR61) in Graves' orbitopathy (GO). METHODS Sera from 52 GO patients, 23 Graves' disease (GD) patients, and 20 healthy controls, and orbital fat tissue samples from 12 of 52 GO patients and 8 control subjects were included for analysis. Concentrations of CYR61 were measured from sera with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and CYR61 mRNA expression levels were evaluated from orbital fat tissue with polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS Serum CYR61 levels were higher in GO patients than in controls (p = 0.001). Patients with active GO showed higher CYR61 levels than those with inactive GO (p < 0.001) or GD (p = 0.004). Expression of CYR61 mRNA was 7.4-fold higher in patients with GO than in healthy controls (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS CYR61 could be an adjuvant biomarker associated with the inflammatory activity of GO.

Abstract
Cell proliferation represents one of the most fundamental processes in biological systems, thus the quantitative analysis of cell proliferation is important in many biological applications such as drug screening, production of biologics, and assessment of cytotoxicity. Conventional proliferation assays mainly quantify cell number based on a calibration curve of a homogeneous cell population, and therefore are not applicable for the analysis of cocultured cells. Moreover, these assays measure cell proliferation indirectly, based on cellular metabolic activity or DNA content. To overcome these shortcomings, a dye dilution assay employing fluorescent cell tracking dyes that are retained within cells was applied and was diluted proportionally by subsequent cell divisions. Here, it was demonstrated that this assay could be implemented to quantitatively analyze the cell proliferation of different types of cell lines, and to concurrently analyze the proliferation of two types of cell lines in coculture by utilizing cell tracking dyes with different spectral characteristics. The mean division time estimated by the dye dilution assay is compared with the population doubling time obtained from conventional methods and values from literature. Additionally, dye transfer between cocultured cells was investigated and it was found that it is a characteristic of the cells rather than a characteristic of the dye. It was suggested that this method can be easily combined with other flow cytometric analyses of cellular properties, providing valuable information on cell status under diverse conditions. © 2017 International Society for Advancement of Cytometry.

Abstract
A new low-power application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) for Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CZT) detectors for single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) application is being developed at BNL. As the first step, a 32-channel prototype ASIC was designed and tested recently. Each channel has a preamplifier followed by CR-RC3 shaping circuits and three independent energy bins with comparators and 16-bit counters. The ASIC was fabricated with TSMC 0.35-μm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) process and tested in laboratories. The power consumption is around 1 mW/ch with a 2.5-V supply. With a gain of 400 mV/fC and the peaking time of 500 ns, the equivalent noise charge (ENC) of 360 e- has been measured in room temperature while the crosstalk rate is less than 0.3%. The 10-bit DACs for global thresholds have an integral nonlinearity (INL) less than 0.56% and differential nonlinearity (DNL) less than 0.33%. In the presentation, we will report the detailed test results with this ASIC.

Abstract
An investigation of the foaming behavior of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) resins in extrusion is performed. Commercial grades of PBT with different molecular weights and rheological characteristics are chosen. PBTs with a high temperature chemical blowing agent are extruded under different material and operational conditions (e.g., amount of blowing agent, set temperature at the die, screw RPM, etc.) to allow the understanding of the effects of those conditions on product characteristics. The foamed extrudates are analyzed for density, morphology, and crystallinity. It is shown that the foaming behavior and the foam quality of PBT are functions of the characteristic properties of the resins including rheological and crystallization behavior.

Abstract
Baseline holder (BLH) circuits are used widely to stabilize the analog output of application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) for high-count-rate applications. The careful design of BLH circuits is vital to the overall stability of the analog-signal-processing chain in ASICs. Recently, we observed self-triggered fluctuations in an ASIC in which the shaping circuits have a BLH circuit in the feedback loop. In fact, further investigations showed that methods of enhancing small-signal stabilities cause an even worse situation. To resolve this problem, we used large-signal analyses to study the circuit's stability. We found that a relatively small gain for the error amplifier and a small current in the non-linear stage of the BLH are required to enhance stability in large-signal analysis, which will compromise the properties of the BLH. These findings were verified by SPICE simulations. In this paper, we present our detailed analysis of the BLH circuits, and propose an improved version of them that have only minimal self-triggered fluctuations. We summarize the design considerations both for the stability and the properties of the BLH circuits.

Abstract
Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), which is one of the representative transition metal dichalcogenides, can be made as an atomically thin layer while preserving its semiconducting characteristics. We fabricated single-, bi-, and multilayer MoS2 field-effect transistor (FET) by the mechanical exfoliation method and studied the effect of deep ultraviolet (DUV) light illumination. The thickness of the MoS2 layers was determined using an optical microscope and further confirmed by Raman spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy. The MoS2 FETs with different number of layers were assessed for DUV-sensitive performances in various environments. The photocurrent response to DUV light becomes larger with increasing numbers of MoS2 layers and is significantly enhanced in N2 gas environment compared with that in atmospheric environment.

Abstract
PURPOSE We aimed to determine the role of CCR7+CD11b+ cell lymph node (LN) homing and T-cell differentiation in dry eye (DE)-induced immunopathogenesis and investigate the therapeutic effects of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and prostaglandin E2/eicosanoid-prostanoid (PGE2/EP) inhibitors against DE. METHODS Six-week-old female C57BL/6 mice were housed in a controlled-environment chamber and administered topical selective COX-2 inhibitors or EP2 antagonists. Expression of major histocompatibility complex (MHC)-IIhigh, CD11b+, CCR7+, IFN-γ+, IL-17+, and CD4+ in the corneas and draining LNs was evaluated using flow cytometry. Mixed lymphocyte reactions (MLRs) with carboxyfluorescein diacetate succinimidyl ester labeling and intracellular cytokine staining were used to verify DE-induced corneal dendritic cell function. mRNA expression of COX-2, EPs, and proinflammatory cytokines in ocular surface was evaluated using quantitative RT-PCR and immunohistochemical staining. RESULTS Dry eye significantly increased MHC-IIhighCD11b+ and CCR7+CD11b+ cells in the cornea and LNs, and MLR revealed CCR7+CD11b+ cells from DE corneas stimulated IL-17+CD4+ cell proliferation. mRNA levels of COX-2, EP2, IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-17 were significantly higher in DE ocular surface but were suppressed by topical COX-2 inhibitors and EP2-specific blockers. Immunohistochemical staining showed COX-2 and matrix metalloproteinase expression in DE corneal epithelia that was diminished by both topical treatments. Furthermore, both topical treatments significantly reduced frequencies of MHC-IIhigh, CD11b+, and CCR7+CD11b+ cells in the corneas and LNs, but also IL-17+CD4+ cells in LNs. CONCLUSIONS Topical COX-2/EP2 treatment reduces CCR7+CD11b+ cells on the ocular surface with inhibition of cellular LN homing and suppresses Th17 immune response, suggesting the COX-2/PGE2/EP axis contributes to immuno-inflammatory pathogenesis on the ocular surface and may be a novel therapeutic target in DE.

Abstract
The pathogenesis of immune-mediated lacrimal gland (LG) dysfunction in Sjögren's syndrome has been thoroughly studied. However, the majority of dry eye (DE) is not related to Sjögren type, and its pathophysiology remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to determine and investigate the protective mechanisms against DE stress in mice. DE induced prominent blood vessel loss without apoptosis or necrosis in the LG. Autophagic vacuoles, distressed mitochondria, and stressed endoplasmic reticulum were observed via electron microscopy. Immunoblotting confirmed the increase in autophagic markers. Glycolytic activities were enhanced with increasing levels of succinate and malate that, in turn, activated hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α. Interestingly, the areas of stable HIF-1α expression overlapped with COX-2 and MMP-9 upregulation in LGs of DE-induced mice. We generated HIF-1α conditional knockout (CKO) mice in which HIF-1α expression was lost in the LG. Surprisingly, normal LG polarities and morphologies were completely lost with DE induction, and tremendous acinar cell apoptosis was observed. Similar to Sjögren's syndrome, CD3+ and CD11b+ cells infiltrated HIF-1α CKO LGs. Our results show that DE induced the expression of HIF-1α that activated autophagy signals to prevent further acinar cell damage and to maintain normal LG function.
