Abstract
Because of excellent photoluminescence properties, robust chemical inertness, and low cytotoxicity of silicon nanoparticles (Si NPs), exploration of their applications in bioimaging is of great interest. Up to date, a method to synthesis Si NPs with high fluorescence quantum yield (QY) is still challenging. This situation limits the further applications of Si NPs. In this work, we report a mild, simple, and green one-pot method to synthesis N-doped fluorescent Si NPs with an ultrahigh QY up to 62%, using ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt as an effective reductant. The obtained ultrabright Si NPs have properties such as relative small size (about 2 nm), water dispersibility, robust stability, and biocompatibility. The as-prepared Si NPs were further applied for cellular imaging with satisfactory results, indicating their great potential in bioimaging applications.

Abstract
Hexavalent chromium species, Cr(VI), which can activate teratogenic processes, disturb DNA synthesis and induce mutagenic changes resulting in malignant tumors. The detection and quantification of Cr(VI) is very necessary. One of the rapid and simple methods for contaminant analysis is fluorescence detection using organic dye molecules. Its application is limited owing to concentration quenching due to aggregation of fluorescent molecules. In this study, we successfully intercalated 7-amino-4-methylcoumarin (AMC) into the interlayer space of montmorillonite (MMT), significantly inhibited fluorescence quenching. Due to enhanced fluorescence property, the composite was fabricated into a film with chitosan to detect Cr(VI) in water. Cr(VI) can be detected in aqueous solution by instruments excellent, ranging from 0.005 to 100 mM with a detection limit of 5 μM.

Abstract
We present high-statistics, precision measurements of the detailed time and energy dependence of the primary cosmic-ray electron flux and positron flux over 79 Bartels rotations from May 2011 to May 2017 in the energy range from 1 to 50 GeV. For the first time, the charge-sign dependent modulation during solar maximum has been investigated in detail by leptons alone. Based on 23.5×10^{6} events, we report the observation of short-term structures on the timescale of months coincident in both the electron flux and the positron flux. These structures are not visible in the e^{+}/e^{-} flux ratio. The precision measurements across the solar polarity reversal show that the ratio exhibits a smooth transition over 830±30 days from one value to another. The midpoint of the transition shows an energy dependent delay relative to the reversal and changes by 260±30 days from 1 to 6 GeV.

Abstract
A precision measurement of the nitrogen flux with rigidity (momentum per unit charge) from 2.2 GV to 3.3 TV based on 2.2×10^{6} events is presented. The detailed rigidity dependence of the nitrogen flux spectral index is presented for the first time. The spectral index rapidly hardens at high rigidities and becomes identical to the spectral indices of primary He, C, and O cosmic rays above ∼700 GV. We observed that the nitrogen flux Φ_{N} can be presented as the sum of its primary component Φ_{N}^{P} and secondary component Φ_{N}^{S}, Φ_{N}=Φ_{N}^{P}+Φ_{N}^{S}, and we found Φ_{N} is well described by the weighted sum of the oxygen flux Φ_{O} (primary cosmic rays) and the boron flux Φ_{B} (secondary cosmic rays), with Φ_{N}^{P}=(0.090±0.002)×Φ_{O} and Φ_{N}^{S}=(0.62±0.02)×Φ_{B} over the entire rigidity range. This corresponds to a change of the contribution of the secondary cosmic ray component in the nitrogen flux from 70% at a few GV to <30% above 1 TV.

Abstract
We present the precision measurement from May 2011 to May 2017 (79 Bartels rotations) of the proton fluxes at rigidities from 1 to 60 GV and the helium fluxes from 1.9 to 60 GV based on a total of 1×10^{9} events collected with the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer aboard the International Space Station. This measurement is in solar cycle 24, which has the solar maximum in April 2014. We observed that, below 40 GV, the proton flux and the helium flux show nearly identical fine structures in both time and relative amplitude. The amplitudes of the flux structures decrease with increasing rigidity and vanish above 40 GV. The amplitudes of the structures are reduced during the time period, which started one year after solar maximum, when the proton and helium fluxes steadily increase. Above ∼3 GV the p/He flux ratio is time independent. We observed that below ∼3 GV the ratio has a long-term decrease coinciding with the period during which the fluxes start to rise.

Abstract
A spatial resolution improvement scheme for the digital optical frequency comb (DOFC)-based single-shot Brillouin optical time domain analysis (BOTDA) by utilizing multiple pump pulses is demonstrated. Assisted by four pump pulses, the spatial resolution can be improved by four times without decreasing the detection resolution. The response time, and the spatial resolution of our scheme over 10 km fiber, are 0.1 ms and 12.5 m. Distributed temperature and strain measurements are carried out with detection resolutions of 1.6°C and 44 μϵ, respectively, and the capability of dynamic measurement of this proposed BOTDA is also demonstrated by probing a vibration with frequency up to 1.2 kHz.

Abstract
The dissipation of triforine in the immature and mature fruit periods was investigated under field conditions. Residue levels of triforine in watermelon were determined by gas chromatography with an electron capture detector (GC-ECD). The decline curves of triforine residues in the watermelon corresponded with first-order kinetics. The half-lives of triforine in Dark Belle and Shiny Boy were 2.10-2.57 days and 2.31-2.67 days respectively. Meanwhile, the half-lives of triforine in the immature and mature fruit periods were 1.69-2.04 days and 2.89-3.85 days, respectively. In the terminal residue experiment, the terminal residues of triforine in the watermelon flesh and peel were below 0.01 mg/kg to 0.05 mg/kg and 0.03 mg/kg to 0.36 mg/kg, respectively. The dissipation rates of triforine varied in different cultivars of watermelon, and even in the same cultivar, the half-lives of triforine significantly varied in the different fruit periods. Although triforine is a fungicide within the suction, the terminal residues in the peel and flesh were very significant.

Abstract
The fiber vector eigenmode based mode division multiplexing (VMDM) transmission over few-mode fiber (FMF) with the 1st-order cylinder vector beams (CVBs) has been demonstrated. The performances of generated CVB using q-plate (QP) have been characterized before and after transmission over the FMF respectively based on the high-order Poincaré sphere model and polarization grating (PG). The measured minimum mode isolations between the two CVBs (TM01 and TE01 modes) of the used 4-mode FMF are about 16.8 dB after transmitting over 5 m and 12.5 dB over 100 m respectively. Then the dual-vector-mode-multiplexed transmissions over FMF of 96 Gb/s with length of 5m and 48 Gb/s of 100 m have been realized in combination with the modulation of direct-detection (DD) orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexing (OFDM) without using multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) digital signal processing (DSP). The experimental results indicate that the CVB-based technology could find the potential in large-capacity short-reach optical interconnects.

Abstract
We present a method to measure the high-order orbital angular momentum (OAM) state of a light beam with a static hyperbolic gradually changing period pure-phase grating (HGCP-PPG). From the number and orientation of the fringes of the Hermite-Gaussian-like diffraction intensity pattern, the OAM state of the incident Laguerre-Gaussian beam can be measured. Experimental detection of the OAM state up to ±100-order has been achieved. This method is highly efficient and robust because the HGCP-PPG is adaptive to high-order OAM beam and tolerant of the misalignment of the incident OAM beam.

Abstract
With an increased use of color dye in textile industries and elevated fabrics output, more scientific studies and technology developments are needed to effectively treat wastewater containing dyes. However, better understanding of the interactions between dyes and suspended solids is a necessity to advance such developments. In this study the interactions between rhodamine 6G (R6G), a cationic dye, and different types of clays minerals, commonly found in the wastewater sludge, were elucidated. The uptake of R6G on the clay minerals was attributed to cation exchange on the external surfaces of non-swelling clays, and at both external and interlayer spaces for swelling clays. In the interlayer of montmorillonite, the R6G molecules form monolayer and bilayer configurations under low and high uptake levels. The significant amounts of R6G uptake indicate that clay minerals are good sorbents for the removal of cationic dyes from water. And the R6G could be readily removed in wastewater treatment by adding small amount of clays and flocculated the clays out.

Abstract
A new species, Dicranocentrushainanicus Ren & Zhang, sp. n., is described from Hainan Province, China. Complete tergal chaetotaxy including microchaetae is illustrated and discussed. It is characterized by having the dental spines arranged in 2–3 rows, two inner teeth on unguis, 5, 2, 2 central macrochaetae on Abd. I–III, two inner S-chaetae on Abd. V displaced anteriorly, and the additional microchaetae associated with the S-chaeta acc.p6 on Th. II–Abd. II. It is most similar to D.chenae Ma, Chen & Soto-Adames but differs from the latter in the number and arrangement of dental spines and the absence of macrochaeta Pa1 on dorsal head. A key to the Chinese species of the genus is provided.

Abstract
Density-functional theory calculations have been performed to systematically investigate the behaviors of solute atoms in 7000 series Al-Zn-Mg based alloys. It is found that solute atoms Mg and Zn are likely to segregate to the Σ5(210)[001] tilt Al GB. The bonding environment and interface cohesion will be affected to different degrees. Also, for GPI(100) our calculations indicate that a Zn/Mg/Zn sandwich configuration in the Al matrix (100) planes is energetically favorable. However, for GPII(111) the disordered structure turns out to be the most stable one. It mainly results from strong 3d-3s hybridization interactions between Zn and Mg atoms. Furthermore, the properties of the metastable phase η' and the equilibrium phase η have also been addressed. The present study provides valuable insight for developing Al alloys with superior performance.

Abstract
Magnesium (Mg) alloy is gaining more interest because of its degradability and osteogenic potential. Still, it has some deficiencies, such as its rapid degradation rate, insufficient mechanical property. This research aimed to design a novel biodegradable Mg-argentum (Ag)-yttrium (Y) alloy, and Y was added to improve degradable and mechanical property. Mg-Ag-Y alloys were characterized for mechanical features, practicabilities in vitro and in vivo. The mechanical features results shown that this novel component was similar to native bone tissue in elastic moduli, tensile, and compressive stress. Then mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were seeded in alloys to assess cell toxicity in vitro. The results showed that its aqueous extract was suitable for MSCs adhesion and proliferation. Then the alloy was evaluated for biomedical applications in nonfractured distal femora of Sprague Dawley rats for 6 weeks, compared with those of pure-Mg and stainless steel groups. All rats survived, and hematological and histological evaluation showed no abnormal physiology 6 weeks postimplantation, and measurements of serum Mg2+ concentration were within normal levels. X-ray scanning, microcomputed tomography, and histological examinations were performed to evaluate the degradability and osteogenic potential. The results indicated that the degradation rate of alloy was 0.91 mm per year, (range 0.77-1.22 mm), and pure-Mg 1.80 mm per year (1.43-2.26 mm). The new bone quantity was 3.18 mm3 (1.46-4.44 mm3 ) in Mg-Ag-Y alloys group, 1.39 mm3 (0.54-2.32 mm3 ) in pure-Mg group, and none in stainless steel group. These promising results suggest potential clinical application of Mg-Ag-Y alloys for use as resorbable bone fixation implant. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract
The aim of the present study was to examine the diagnosis of methylation of CDX2 gene promoter in colorectal cancer (CRC) and assessed its value in the prediction of treatment efficacy. Sixty patients who were diagnosed as CRCs for the first time, 60 patients with hyperplastic polyps (HPs) and adenomas, and 60 patients with inflammatory lesions or healthy patients (control group) were included in the present study. The methylation levels of CDX2 gene promoter were detected by methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction (MSP), and the expression levels of CDX2 mRNA were detected by fluorescence quantitative PCR. Treatment options, such as surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, were chosen on the basis of TNM staging of CRC patients. The tumor-free survival, relapse rate and mortality were also recorded. The methylation rate was 71.67% (43/60) and significantly higher in the CRC group as compared to the HP/adenoma and control groups, P<0.05. Moreover, they showed further increase with higher degree of TNM staging. The expression levels of CDX2 mRNA was significantly lower in the CRC group in comparison to HP/adenoma and control groups, P<0.05, and showed a further decrease with a higher degree of TNM staging. The tumor-free survival was shorter, and the relapse rate and mortality were higher in patients with positive methylation in the CRC group, P<0.05. Multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that TNM staging and positive methylation were independent risk factors of mortality. In conclusion, higher methylation degree of CDX2 gene promoter resulted in decreased expression of CDX2 gene, and was closely associated with TNM staging and prognosis. TNM staging and positive methylation were independent risk factors of mortality for CRC patients.

Abstract
Carbon dots (CDs) synthesized from natural organic precursors, such as glucose, citric acid, glycerol, and chitosan, have attracted great interest since natural organic precursors provide abundant carbon sources, a variety of heteroatoms for doping (such as N, S, and P) and good biocompatibility. However, previous approaches utilized organic solvents during synthesis procedures, which limited their widespread development in biomedical applications. Herein, the facile synthesis of a new type of bright CDs through an eco-friendly method that employs linseed as a natural precursor has been reported. The as-obtained CDs possessed high quantum yield of 14.2%, excellent solubility and photostability as well as excitation-dependent photoluminescence (PL). In addition, the as-prepared CDs exhibited great potential in cell imaging owing to negligible cytotoxicity as well as excellent biocompatibility and great resistance to photobleaching. Subsequently, the as-prepared CDs were also applied in the fabrication of a biosensor for sensitive detection of butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) based on the fluorescence quenching mechanism, which could be used as an indicator for detecting pesticides and nerve gases. By monitoring the change in the fluorescence intensity of the CDs, the activity of BChE was sensitively analyzed. The limit of detection (LOD) of BChE was 0.035 mU mL-1. The as-prepared CDs have potential applications in both biosensors and bio-imaging.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore an electrode suitable for wireless portable sleep monitoring equipment and analyze the result of the signals of electrooculogram (EOG) and electroencephalography (EEG) collected by this kind of flexible electrodes. METHODS The flexible electrodes were prepared by microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology. This kind of electrodes consisted parylene, chromium, and gold. Parylene, the flexible substrate of this kind of flexible electrodes, was of biocompatibility. Between parylene and gold there was an adhesion layer of chromium, which connected parylene and gold tightly. Then the flexible electrodes were stuck to medical adhesive tape. The electrodes were designed and made into a grid to make sure that the medical adhesive tape could tape on the skin tightly, so that the contact impedance between the electrodes and the skin would be reduced. Then the alternating current impedance of the electrode were tested by the CHI660E electrochemical workstation after the electrode was achieved. To make sure that this kind of electrodes could be used in EOG monitoring, the electrodes were connected to a wireless signal acquisition suite containing special biological signal acquisition and digital processing chip to gather different sites around the eyes and the electrical signals of different directions of the eye movements, then analyzed the signal-to-noise ratio of the EOG. At the end, the Philips A6 polysomnography was used to compare the noise amplitude of the EEG signals collected by the flexible electrode and the gold cup electrode. RESULTS The electrodes stuck to the skin tightly, and these electrodes could collect signals that we wanted while the experiment was performed. The alternating current impedance of the flexible electrode was between 4 kΩ and 13 kΩ while with the frequency of alternating current under 100 Hz, most EEG signal frequencies were at this range. The EOG signals collected by the flexible electrodes were in line with the clinical requirements. The noise amplitude of EEG signals collected by the flexible electrodes was lower than that of the electrical signals collected by the gold cup electrodes. CONCLUSION The flexible electrode could be taken into consideration as an alternative electrode for monitoring EOG and EEG signals, and the wireless portable sleep monitoring devices are to be further developed in the future.

Abstract
High-order orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes, namely, OAM+5 and OAM+6, were generated and demonstrated experimentally by twisting a solid-core hexagonal photonic crystal fiber (PCF) during hydrogen-oxygen flame heating. Leaky orbital resonances in the cladding depend strongly on the twist rate and length of the helical PCF. Moreover, the generated high-order OAM mode could be a polarized mode. The secret of the successful observation of high-order modes is that leaky orbital resonances in the twisted PCF cladding have a high coupling efficiency of more than -20 dB.

Abstract
Objective To explore the effectiveness difference between titanium elastic intramedullary nail internal fixation and bone plate internal fixation in the treatment of adult Galeazzi fracture. Methods Ninety-seven patients of Galeazzi fracture according with the selection criteria were divided into 2 groups by prospective cohort study, who were admitted between January 2012 and November 2015. In the patients, 59 were treated with open reduction and bone plate internal fixation (plate group), and 38 with titanium elastic intramedullary nail internal fixation (minimally invasive group). There was no significant difference in the gender, age, cause of injury, fracture site, type of fracture, and time from injury to operation between 2 groups ( P>0.05). The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, fracture healing time, and complications were recorded and compared between 2 groups, and the forearm function was evaluated by Anderson score. Results All the patients were followed up 12-23 months (mean, 17 months). The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, fracture healing time of minimally invasive group were significantly less than those in plate group ( P<0.05). There were 1 case of fracture nonunion, 1 case of wound infection in plate group, and 1 case of nail tail slight infection in minimally invasive group, which were all cured after the corresponding treatment. The remaining patients had good fracture healing, and no vascular injury, internal fixation failure, deep infection, or other complications occurred. According to Anderson score at 12 months after operation, the forearm function results were excellent in 46 cases, good in 12 cases, and poor in 1 case, with an excellent and good rate of 98.3% in plate group; and the results were excellent in 26 cases, good in 11 cases, and poor in 1 case, with an excellent and good rate of 97.4% in minimally invasive group; showing no significant difference ( χ2=0.10, P=0.75). Conclusion Minimally invasive fixation with titanium elastic nail has such advantages as small damage, quick recovery, no skin scarring, etc. As long as the correct indication is selected, minimally invasive titanium intramedullary nail internal fixation of Galeazzi fractures can also get good effectiveness.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Three-dimensional (3D) collagen scaffold models, due to their ability to mimic the tissue and organ structure in vivo, have received increasing interest in drug discovery and toxicity evaluation. METHODS In this study, we developed a perfused 3D model and studied cellular response to cytotoxic drugs in comparison with traditional 2D cell cultures as evaluated by cancer drug cisplatin. RESULTS Cancer cells grown in perfused 3D environments showed increased levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production compared to the 2D culture. As determined by growth analysis, cells in the 3D culture, after forming a spheroid, were more resistant to the cancer drug cisplatin compared to that of the 2D cell culture. In addition, 3D culturing cells showed elevated level of ROS, indicating a physiological change or the formation of a microenvironment that resembles tumor cells in vivo. CONCLUSIONS These data revealed that cellular response to drugs for cells growing in 3D environments are dramatically different from that of 2D cultured cells. Thus, the perfused 3D collagen scaffold model we report here might be a potentially very useful tool for drug analysis.

Abstract
With a layered structure, layered double hydroxide (LDH) has potential applications in remediation of anionic contaminants, which has been a hot topic for recent years. In this study, a Cl type Mg-Al hydrotalcite (Cl-LDH) was prepared by a co-precipitation method. The adsorption process of three pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) [tetracycline (TC), diclofenac sodium (DF), chloramphenicol (CAP)] by Cl-LDH was investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Zeta potential, dynamic light scattering (DLS), BET, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and molecular dynamics simulation. The results showed that the adsorption equilibrium of TC and DF could be reached in 120 min, and the maximum adsorption capacity of the TC and DF were 1.85 and 0.95 mmol/g, respectively. The isothermal adsorption model of TC was fitted with the Freundlich adsorption model, and the isothermal adsorption model of DF was fitted with the Langmuir adsorption model. The adsorption dynamics of TC and DF followed the pseudo-second-order model. The adsorption mechanisms of the three PPCPs into Cl-LDH were different based on the experimental results and molecular dynamics simulation. The TC adsorption on Cl-LDH was accompanied by the electrostatic interactions between the negative charge of TC and the positive charge of Cl-LDH. The uptake of DF was attributed to anion exchange and electrostatic interaction. Cl-LDH does not adsorb CAP due to no electrostatic interaction. The molecular dynamic simulation further confirmed different configurations of three selected PPCPs, which were ultimately responsible for the uptake of PPCPs on Cl-LDH.
