Abstract
Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) disease is of increasing public health concern; however, data regarding pleural effusion in NTM disease patients are limited. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical relevance and characteristics of NTM pleuritis. Patients with pleural effusion and NTM disease diagnosed between April 2012 and November 2017 were enrolled and their medical records were retrospectively reviewed. Clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes were analyzed. A total of seven among 100 patients with NTM disease had NTM pleuritis (7%). Flow cytometry of T and B lymphocytes revealed varying degrees of cellular immunodeficiency in five cases (71.4%). NTM pleuritis with pneumothorax occurred in five patients (71.4%) and bronchopleural fistula (BPF) was also found in four of them. All seven patients had delayed diagnosis and the mean time of diagnosis was 7 months (1-24 months). Four patients successfully completed treatment, while three patients (42.8%) succumbed to progressing NTM disease. Low CD4-positive T-cell counts were common in NTM pleuritis patients. Delayed diagnosis and treatment resulted in increased incidence of NTM pleurisy and poor prognosis. Moreover, BPF is perhaps a characteristic feature of Mycobacterium avium complex-associated pleuritis.

Abstract
Five patients with segmental irregular-shaped bone defect of the femur were recruited in this study from 2017.12 to 2018.11. All patients were treated by customized design and 3D printed micro-porous prosthesis. And the procedure was divided into stages: radical debridement and temporary fixation (the first stage); the membrane formation and virtual surgery (intervening period for 6-8 weeks); definite reconstruction the defects (the second stage). Routine clinical follow-up and radiographic evaluation were done to assess bone incorporation and complications of internal fixation. The weight-bearing time and the joint function of the patients were recorded. The patients were followed up for an average of 16.4 months. The average length of bone defect and the distal residual bone was 12 cm and 6.5 cm. The average time of partial weight-bearing and full weight-bearing was 12.7 days and 2.6 months. X-ray demonstrated good osseous integration of the implant/bone interface. No complications occurred such as implant loosening, subsidence, loss of correction and infection. At the last follow-up, Harris score of hip joint was excellent in 2 cases, good in 2 cases, fair in 1 case; HSS score of knee joint was good in 4 cases, middle in 1 case. From our study, we concluded that meticulous customized design 3D printed micro-porous prosthesis combined with intramedullary nail may be a promising and an alternative strategy to treat metaphyseal segmental irregular-shaped femoral bone defect, especially for cases with massive juxta-articular bone loss.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The objective of this study was to investigate genetic variations and the relationships between these genetic variations and clinicopathological features of high-recurrence risk papillary thyroid carcinoma in a southern Chinese population. METHODS One hundred sixty-eight patients of high-recurrence risk papillary thyroid carcinoma were recruited for this study from 2017 to 2018. Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue and the data of clinicopathological characteristics were all collected and analyzed from these patients. We used next-generation sequencing technology to investigate the targeted gene mutations and gene fusions of the pathology specimens. RESULTS The frequency of candidate tumor driver gene mutation was 85.1% in 143 patients, including BRAF V600E mutation in 119 patients(70.8%), RET fusion in 13 patients(7.7%), TERT promoter mutations in 11 patients(6.5%), RAS (HRAS, NRAS, KRAS) gene mutations in 10 patients(6.0%), and other mutations involving TP53, PIK3CA, AKT1, PTEN and NTRK1. Concomitant presence of more than two genetic aberrations was seen in 27 patients (16.1%). Our study showed that BRAF V600E mutation is highly correlated with conventional PTC (p < 0.001), BRAF V600E and TERT promoter mutation duet was associated with older patient age (> 45, p = 0.003) and higher disease stage of III or IV (p = 0.002). RAS gene and BRAF V600E co-mutations were only seen in multifocal PTC (p = 0.015). CONCLUSION In our high-recurrence risk PTC cohort, most patients had more than one driver gene aberration. Coexistence of BRAF V600E with TERT promoter mutations or with RAS mutations were significantly correlated with worse clinicopathological characteristics.

Meat quality is not only influenced by breed but also rearing environment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different housing environments on growth performance, carcase traits, meat quality, physiological response pre-slaughter and fatty acid composition in two
pig breeds. A total of 120 growing pigs at 60–70 days of age were arranged in a 2 × 2 factorial design with the breeds (Duroc × Landrace × Large White [D × L × LW] and Duroc × Landrace × Min pig [D × L × M]) and environmental enrichment
(barren concrete floor or enriched with straw bedding) as factors. Each treatment was performed in triplicate with ten pigs per replicate. The pigs housed in the enriched environment exhibited a higher average daily gain, average daily feed intake, saturated fatty acid percentage and backfat
depth than the pigs reared in the barren environment. Plasma cortisol levels were lower and growth hormone higher in enriched compared to barren pens. The D × L × M pigs showed lower cooking loss compared with the D × L × LW pigs. Moreover, the D × L × M
pigs exhibited poor growth performance but had a better water-holding capacity. Only carcase traits and meat quality interaction effects were observed. We concluded that an enriched environment can reduce pre- slaughter stress and improve the growth performance of pigs and modulate the fatty
acid composition of pork products.

Abstract
Mulberry has been used as a functional food to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, it contains relatively high levels of fructose and glucose, which are not suitable for excess consumption by diabetic patients. In this study we used microbial fermentation to remove fructose and glucose from mulberry fruit, and then determined the effects on glycemia, the phosphatidylinositol 3-hydroxykinase/Akt (PI3K/Akt) and adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling pathways and their downstream effectors in T2DM mice. After 5 weeks of administration, fermented mulberry (FM) significantly reduced fasting blood glucose, and also improved insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance, more effectively than unfermented mulberry (MP). Moreover, compared with MP, FM had a more marked effect on the protein expression of intermediates in the PI3K/Akt and AMPK signaling pathways and their effectors: insulin receptor, phosphorylated Akt (Ser 308), phosphorylated glycogen synthase kinase-3β (Ser 9), glycogen synthetase, phosphorylated forkhead transcription factor 1 (Ser 256), pyruvate carboxylase, phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase, fructose-1, 6-bisphosphatase, glucose-6-phosphatase, lipoprotein lipase, and phosphorylated AMPK (Thr 172), glucose transporter 4 and pyruvate kinase. These findings indicate that mulberry fruit modified to remove fructose and glucose may be more promising than whole mulberry as a treatment for diabetes.

Abstract
A 30-year-old woman was admitted to a different hospital with a 2-day history of fever, cough, and expectoration. She had a history of left pulmonary tuberculosis 8 years previously. Chest computed tomography showed an infiltrate in the inferior lobe of the left lung and spot-like calcifications in the anterior lobe of the upper left lobe and lower lobe of the left lung. After antibacterial treatment, the patient’s condition deteriorated and she developed significant pleural effusion on the left side. The pleural effusion assay showed a lymphocyte-predominant exudate with a significantly increased adenosine deaminase level. The patient was transferred to our hospital with a suspected diagnosis of tuberculous pleuritis. A serum test for Mycoplasma pneumoniae-specific immunoglobulin M was positive. Because of the limitations of this test in determining the occurrence of recent infection, a thoracoscopic pleural biopsy was performed, and M. pneumoniae DNA was detected in the biopsy tissue using M. pneumoniae-specific polymerase chain reaction. Thus, the patient was diagnosed with M. pneumoniae-related parapneumonic effusion. Clinicians must be aware of the usefulness and limitations of a high adenosine deaminase level and know that lymphocyte predominance in pleural effusion does not always indicate tuberculous pleurisy, especially in areas of high tuberculosis prevalence.

Abstract
Passiflora foetida is a horticultural plant and vital traditional Chinese herbal medicine. In our previous study, the characterization and immuno-enhancing effect of fruits polysaccharide 1 (PFP1), a water-eluted hetero-mannan from wild Passiflora foetida fruits, were investigated. Herein, another three salt-eluted novel polysaccharides, namely PFP2, PFP3, and PFP4, were obtained and structurally characterized. The results showed that PFP2, PFP3, and PFP4 were three structurally similar hetero-galacturonans with different molecular weights of 6.11 × 104, 4.37 × 104, and 3.48 × 105 g/mol, respectively. All three of these hetero-galacturonans are mainly composed of galacturonic acid, galactose, arabinose (75.69%, 80.39%, and 74.30%, respectively), and other monosaccharides including mannose, fucose, glucose, ribose, xylose, and glucuronic acid (24.31%, 19.61, and 25.70%, respectively), although differences in their backbone structure exist. Additionally, immunomodulatory assay indicated that the three hetero-galacturonans possess the ability to promote the production of nitric oxide (NO), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in RAW264.7 macrophages in a concentration-dependent manner (p < 0.05). Especially, PFP3 displayed a stronger enhancing effect than PFP2 and PFP4 at the minimum effective concentration. Therefore, the results suggested that the obtained three salt-eluted hetero-galacturonans, especially PFP3, could be utilized as immunomodulatory effectivity ingredients in nutritional/pharmaceutical industries.

Abstract
A general method has been developed for the formation of glycosyl chlorides and bromides from picolinic esters under mild and neutral conditions. Benchtop stable picolinic esters are activated by a copper(II) halide species to afford the corresponding products in high yields with a traceless leaving group. Rare β glycosyl chlorides are accessible via this route through neighboring group participation. Additionally, glycosyl chlorides with labile protecting groups previously not easily accessible can be prepared.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Estrogen is a key factor in breast cancer carcinogenesis, and reductions in its synthesis can decrease breast cancer risk. Anastrozole can reduce plasma estrogen levels by inhibiting the enzyme aromatase, and is approved for adjuvant treatment of breast cancer. We report a case of pulmonary cryptococcosis in a patient who was treated with anastrozole for an early-stage tumor. This case is of special interest because the patient achieved a better curative effect after the administration of anastrozole was discontinued. PATIENT CONCERNS A 61-year-old woman was found to have multiple pulmonary nodules on chest computed tomography (CT) after being treated for 5 months with anastrozole as an adjuvant breast cancer therapy. A biopsy of the largest lesion of the right lung showed cryptococcus fungal bodies with granulomatous inflammation, so the patient was diagnosed with pulmonary cryptococcosis. She was treated with fluconazole (400 mg/day) for 1 month, but a follow-up CT scan of chest showed no improvement. DIAGNOSIS Pulmonary cryptococcosis. INTERVENTIONS Because the pulmonary cryptococcosis was not improving, the administration of anastrozole was discontinued. Fluconazole was continued. OUTCOMES The pulmonary lesions diminished in size 2 months after discontinuing anastrozole. The patient continued taking fluconazole for a total of 6 months without re-administration of anastrozole, and the lesions of pulmonary cryptococcosis almost disappeared. CONCLUSION This case of pulmonary cryptococcosis may have been induced by a decrease in estrogen level caused by the aromatase inhibitor, anastrozole. Treatment of pulmonary cryptococcosis with concurrent anastrozole use may be ineffective, and it may be better to discontinue the aromatase inhibitor.

Abstract
Heliotropin, a compound with important roles in the spice and fragrance industries and broad application prospects, is mainly produced through chemical methods. Here, we established a novel process for the synthesis of heliotropin by Escherichia coli whole cells through biotransformation of isosafrole. Directed evolution and high-throughput screening based on 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine were used to improve the activity of trans-anethole oxygenase toward isosafrole, and a mutant (TAO3G2) was obtained that had a high ability to oxidize isosafrole. Formate dehydrogenase (FDH) and TAO3G2 were coexpressed in E. coli, significantly increasing the catalytic efficiency by regenerating more NADH to promote isosafrole oxidation. Furthermore, after optimizing the molar ratio of isosafrole to the auxiliary substrate, the final concentration of heliotropin was increased from 9.15 to 19.45 g/L, and the maximum yield and space-time yield reached 96.02% and 3.89 g/L/h, respectively. These results suggest that the biosynthesis of heliotropin should have excellent industrial application value.

Abstract
Tuberculous empyema (TE) is associated with high mortality and morbidity. In the retrospective cohort study, we aimed to find risk factors for TE among pleural tuberculosis (TB) patients. Between July 2011 and September 2015, all culture-confirmed pleural TB patients (474 cases) were enrolled in our study. Empyema was defined as grossly purulent pleural fluid. Demographic and epidemiological data were collected for further analysis. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate risk factors of TE in pleural TB, age–adjusted odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated to show the risk. The mean age was 35.7 ± 18.1 years old, males comprised 79.1% of the participants (375 cases). Forty-seven patients (9.9%) were multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB), 29 (6.1%) had retreatment TB, 26 (5.5%) had diabetes mellitus. The percentage of empyema patients was 8.9% (42 cases). Multivariate analysis revealed that male (adjusted OR = 4.431, 95% CI: 1.411, 13.919), pleural adenosine deaminase (ADA, >88 U/L) (adjusted OR = 3.367, 95% CI: 1.533, 7.395) and white blood cell (WBC, >9.52 109/L) (adjusted OR = 5.763, 95% CI: 2.473, 13.431) were significant risk factors for empyema in pleural TB, while pulmonary TB (adjusted OR = 0.155, 95% CI: 0.072, 0.336) was the protective factor for the patients. TE remains a serious threat to public health in China. Male sex is a significant risk factor for TE while the presence of pulmonary TB is protective, and high levels of pleural ADA and WBC count could aid in early diagnosis of TE. This finding would help towards reducing the mortality and morbidity associated with TE.

Abstract
Due to its huge invasion potential and specialization in honeybee predation, the invasive hornet Vespa velutina nigrithorax represents a high-concern species under both an ecological and economical perspective. In light of the development of specific odorant attractants to be used in sustainable control strategies, we carried out both behavioural assays and chemical analyses to investigate the possibility that, in the invasive population of V. velutina nigrithorax, reproductive females emit volatile pheromones to attract males, as demonstrated in a Chinese non-invasive population. We focused on the secretions produced by sternal and venom glands; because of the volatility and complexity of their composition, both of them could potentially allow an attraction and a species-specific response, decreasing therefore non-target species by-catches. Results of chemical analyses and behavioural assays showed that venom volatiles, although population-specific, are unlikely candidates as male attractants since they do not differ in composition or in quantity between reproductive females and workers and do not attract males. Conversely, sternal gland secretion differs between female castes for the presence of some ketoacids exclusive of gynes already reported as sex pheromones for the non-invasive subspecies V. velutina auraria. Despite such a difference, males are attracted by the sternal gland secretion of both workers and gynes. These results provide a first step to understand the reproductive biology of V. velutina nigrithorax in its invasive range and to develop effective and sustainable management strategies for the species.

Abstract
K-complexes are important transient bio-signal waveforms in sleep stage 2. Detecting k-complexes visually requires a highly qualified expert. In this study, an efficient method for detecting k-complexes from electroencephalogram (EEG) signals based on fractal and frequency features coupled with an ensemble model of three classifiers is presented. EEG signals are first partitioned into segments, using a sliding window technique. Then, each EEG segment is decomposed using a dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DT-CWT) to a set of real and imaginary parts. A total of 10 sub-bands are used based on four levels of decomposition, and the high sub-bands are considered in this research for feature extraction. Fractal and frequency features based on DT-CWT and Higuchi's algorithm are pulled out from each sub-band and then forwarded to an ensemble classifier to detect k-complexes. A twelve-feature set is finally used to detect the sleep EEG characteristics using the ensemble model. The ensemble model is designed using a combination of three classification techniques including a least square support vector machine (LS-SVM), k-means and Naïve Bayes. The proposed method for the detection of the k-complexes achieves an average accuracy rate of 97.3 %. The results from the ensemble classifier were compared with those by individual classifiers. Comparisons were also made with existing k-complexes detection approaches for which the same datasets were used. The results demonstrate that the proposed approach is efficient in identifying the k-complexes in EEG signals; it yields optimal results with a window size 0.5 s. It can be an effective tool for sleep stages classification and can be useful for doctors and neurologists for diagnosing sleep disorders.

Abstract
The combination of biodegradable metals and additive manufacturing (AM) leads to a revolutionary change of metal implants in many aspects including materials, design, manufacturing, and clinical applications. The AM of nondegradable metals such as titanium and CoCr alloys has proven to be a tremendous success in clinical applications. The AM of biodegradable metals including magnesium (Mg), iron (Fe), and zinc (Zn) is still in its infancy, although much progress has been made in the research field. Element loss and porosity are common processing problems for AM of biodegradable metals like Zn and Mg, which are mainly caused by evaporation during melting under a high-energy beam. The resulting formation quality and properties are closely related to material, design, and processing, making AM of biodegradable metals a typical interdisciplinary subject involving biomaterials, mechanical engineering, and medicine. This work reviews the state of research and future perspective on AM of biodegradable metals from extensive viewpoints such as material, processing, formation quality, design, microstructure, and properties. Effects of powder properties and processing parameters on formation quality are characterized in detail. The microstructure and metallurgical defects encountered in the AM parts are described. Mechanical and biodegradable properties of AM samples are introduced. Design principles and potential applications of biodegradable metal implants produced by AM are discussed. Finally, current research status is summarized together with some proposed future perspectives for advancing knowledge about AM of biodegradable metals. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: Rapid development of research and applications on biodegradable metals and additive manufacturing (AM) has been made in recent years. Customized geometric shapes of medical metals with porous structure can be realized accurately and efficiently by laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF), which is beneficial to achieve reliable stress conduction and balanced properties. This review introduces the development history and current status of AM of biodegradable metals and then critically surveys L-PBF of Mg-, Fe-, and Zn-based metals from multiple viewpoints including materials, processing, formation quality, structural design, microstructure, and mechanical and biological properties. The present findings are summarized together with some proposed future challenges for advancing AM of biodegradable metals into real clinical applications.

Abstract
1-Deoxynojirimycin (DNJ) exerts hypoglycemic effects. However, the traditional method for DNJ extraction is inefficient, and the hypoglycemic mechanism of DNJ remains unclear. In this study, the mixed fermentation by Lactobacillus fermentum and Saccharomyces cerevisiae was used to enhance DNJ extraction efficiency. It was found that this strategy was more efficient than the traditional method as the yield improved from the original 3.24 mg/g to 5.97 mg/g. The purified DNJ significantly decreased serum glucose (P < 0.01) and insulin levels (P < 0.05), improved serum lipid levels (P < 0.05), and reversed insulin resistance (P < 0.05) in diabetic mice. These changes were caused by up-regulating the protein expression of insulin receptor and glycolysis enzymes (GK, PK, and PFK) (P < 0.05) and down-regulating the protein expression of insulin receptor substrate-1 and gluconeogenesis enzymes (PCB, PEPCK, FBPase, and G-6-Pase) (P < 0.05), thus alleviating glucose tolerance. Additionally, DNJ treatment relieved gut dysbiosis in diabetic mice by promoting the growth of Lactobacillus, Lachnospiraceae NK4A136 group, Oscillibacter, norank Lachnospiraceae, Alistipes, and Bifidobacterium (P < 0.05) and suppressing the growth of Ruminococcaceae UCG-014, Weissella, Ruminococcus, Prevotellaceae Ga6A1 group, Anaerostipes, Klebsiella, Prevotellaceae UCG-001, and Bacteroidales S24-7 group (P < 0.05).

Abstract
Phycocyanin (PC), a water-soluble biliprotein, exhibits potent anti-colon cancer properties. However, its application in functional foods is limited by the poor stability and low bioavailability of PC. In this study, we successfully encapsulated PC by coaxial electrospinning. The colon targeted release of PC was achieved with retention of the antioxidant activity of PC. The PC-loaded electrospun fiber mat (EFM) obtained inhibited HCT116 cell growth in a dose-dependent and time-dependent manner. In particular, the PC-loaded EFM exerted its anti-cancer activity by blocking the cell cycle at the G0/G1 phase and inducing cell apoptosis involving the decrease of Bcl-2/Bax, activation of caspase 3 and release of cytochrome c. This study suggests that co-axial electrospinning is an efficient and effective way to deliver PC and improve its bioavailability; thus, it represents a promising approach for encapsulating functional ingredients for colon cancer prevention.

Abstract
Background: Occupational exposure of radiation among medical radiation workers
contributes to the subsequent increased risk of thyroid cancer. Long
noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are emerging as important regulators of cancer
biology. However, little is known about lncRNA expression in thyroid cancer
tissues from patients who are exposed to medical occupational radiation. The
purpose of this study is to reveal the transcriptomes difference between
thyroid cancer tissues and adjacent nonneoplastic thyroid tissues. Methods: Microarray technology was used in this study. Quantitative reverse
transcription polymerase chain reaction was adopted to verify 6
differentially expressed lncRNAs. Gene ontology and pathway analyses were
performed using standard enrichment computational methods. Potential target
genes of the differentially expressed lncRNAs were predicted with 2
independent algorithms. Results: A total of 23 lncRNA and messenger RNA transcripts were found differentially
expressed in the thyroid cancer tissues (fold change ≥2.0,
P < .05). This differential lncRNA expression may
affect many pathways, including those involved in cysteine and methionine
metabolism, Huntington disease, propanoate metabolism, and
carcinogenesis. Conclusions: Our study provides a transcriptome-wide screening and analysis of the lncRNA
expression profile in thyroid cancer tissues from patients with medical
occupational radiation exposure and lays the foundation for further
investigation of lncRNAs related to thyroid cancer development and
carcinogenic risk of medical occupational radiation exposure.

Abstract
The site-selective functionalization of carbohydrates is an active area of research. Reported here is the surprising observation that the sterically encumbered adamantyl group directed site-selective acylation at the C2 position of S-glycosides through dispersion interactions between the adamantyl C-H bonds and the π system of the cationic acylated catalyst, which may have broad implications in many other chemical reactions. Because of their stability, chemical orthogonality, and ease of activation for glycosylation, the site-selective acylation of S-glycosides streamlines oligosaccharide synthesis and will have wide applications in complex carbohydrate synthesis.

Abstract
K-complexes identification is a challenging task in sleep research. The detection of k-complexes in electroencephalogram (EEG) signals based on visual inspection is time consuming, prone to errors, and requires well-trained knowledge. Many existing methods for k-complexes detection rely mainly on analyzing EEG signals in time and frequency domains. In this study, an efficient method is proposed to detect k-complexes from EEG signals based on fractal dimension (FD) of time frequency (T-F) images coupled with undirected graph features. Firstly, an EEG signal is partitioned into smaller segments using a sliding window technique. Each EEG segment is passed through a spectrogram of short time Fourier transform (STFT) to obtain the T-F images. Secondly, the box counting method is applied to each T-F image to discover the FDs in EEG signals. A vector of FD features are extracted from each T-F image and then mapped into an undirected graph. The structural properties of the graphs are used as the representative features of the original EEG signals for the input of a least square support vector machine (LS-SVM) classifier. Key graphic features are extracted from the undirected graphs. The extracted graph features are forwarded to the LS-SVM for classification. To investigate the classification ability of the proposed feature extraction combined with the LS-SVM classifier, the extracted features are also forwarded to a k-means classifier for comparison. The proposed method is compared with several existing k-complexes detection methods in which the same datasets were used. The findings of this study shows that the proposed method yields better classification results than other existing methods in the literature. An average accuracy of 97% for the detection of the k-complexes is obtained using the proposed method. The proposed method could lead to an efficient tool for the scoring of automatic sleep stages which could be useful for doctors and neurologists in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders and for sleep research.

Abstract
Developing earth-abundant and efficient electrocatalysts for photoelectrochemical water splitting is critical to realizing a high-performance solar-to-hydrogen energy conversion process. Herein, phosphorus-rich colloidal cobalt diphosphide nanocrystals (CoP2 NCs) are synthesized via hot injection. The CoP2 NCs show a Pt-like hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalytic activity in acidic solution with a small overpotential of 39 mV to achieve -10 mA cm-2 and a very low Tafel slope of 32 mV dec-1 . Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the high P content both physically separates Co atoms to prevent H from over binding to multiple Co atoms, while simultaneously stabilizing H adsorbed to single Co atoms. The catalytic performance of the CoP2 NCs is further demonstrated in a metal-insulator-semiconductor photoelectrochemical device consisting of bottom p-Si light absorber, atomic layer deposition Al-ZnO passivation layers, and the CoP2 cocatalyst. The p-Si/AZO/TiO2 /CoP2 photocathode shows a photocurrent density of -16.7 mA cm-2 at 0 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) and an output photovoltage of 0.54 V. The high performance and stability are attributed to the junction between p-Si and AZO, the corrosion-resistance of the pinhole-free TiO2 protective layer, and the fast HER kinetics of the CoP2 NCs.

Abstract
To study the impact of leachate recirculation frequency on the transformation of carbon and nitrogen pollutants in a semi-aerobic bioreactor landfill (SABL), three laboratory-scale SABLs were investigated, each using a different leachate recirculation frequency (daily, once each 3 days, and once each 5 days). Results showed that degradation of total nitrogen (TN), ammonium nitrogen (NH4+-N), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and total organic carbon (TOC) could be described using a quadratic polynomial-compound index model. Degradation rates of TN, NH4+-N, COD, and TOC slightly increased from 0.01795, 0.01814, 0.01451, and 0.01166 day-1 to 0.02054, 0.01903, 0.01488, and 0.01203 day-1, respectively, when the recirculation frequency increased from once per 5 days to once per 3 days. When recirculation frequency was increased to daily, degradation rates of TN, NH4+-N, COD, and TOC significantly increased to 0.03698, 0.02718, 0.02479, and 0.02872 day-1, respectively. Moreover, when recirculation frequency increased from once per 5 days to once per 3 days, the gasification rate of nitrogenous and carbonaceous pollutants was enhanced between 20.38 and 8.17%, respectively. When the leachate recirculation rate further increased to daily, only a small amount of carbonaceous and nitrogenous pollutants was transformed to the liquid phase. Thus, increasing the leachate recirculation frequency in an SABL benefits the removal of carbonaceous and nitrogenous pollutants from the reactor. In addition, the greater is the recirculation frequency, the lower is the residual carbon and nitrogen in the solid phase, and the higher is the gasification rate. A proper recirculation frequency promotes the stabilization of landfill leachate. This study provides a theoretical reference and experimental evidence for accelerating the stabilization of MSW and contributes to the macro-control of landfills.

Abstract
Extrapolating from lessons learnt with previous low-molecular-weight β-(1→3)-glucan mimetics, we designed a series of minimal 2,4-dideoxy-thioether-linked carbacyclic β-(1→3)-glucan mimetics and synthesized di-, tri-, and tetramers in an enantiomerically pure form by an iterative sequence based on a simple building block readily available from commercial ( S)-(-)-3-cyclohexenecarboxylic acid. These substances were screened for their ability to inhibit anti-CR3-fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) staining of human neutrophils and anti-Dectin-1-FITC staining of mouse macrophages as well as for their ability to stimulate phagocytosis and pinocytosis. In each assay, the synthetic compounds displayed comparable activity to the corresponding native β-(1→3)-glucans, laminaritriose, and tetraose, suggesting that the exploitation of hydrophobic patches in the lectin-binding domains of CR3 and Dectin-1 is a promising strategy for the development of small-molecule analogues of β-(1→3)-glucans.

Abstract
The antioxidant quercetin (Q) is a bioactive compound that can inhibit colon cancer. However, its poor stability in the upper gastro-intestinal tract and low bioavailability compromised its benefits. In this study, a biopolymer-based colon-specific delivery system for Q was constructed by co-axial electrospinning. Quercetin-loaded chitosan nanoparticles (QCNP) were firstly prepared and characterized. Then, a Q-loaded electrospun fiber mat (Q-loaded EFM) containing prebiotics (galactooligosaccharide, GOS) was fabricated using sodium alginate as the shell layer and the abovementioned QCNP and prebiotics as the core layer. The DPPH assay showed that the antioxidant activity of Q was maintained in the obtained film. Owing to the addition of prebiotic GOS, the obtained fiber mat exhibited good prebiotic effects. In vitro release kinetics showed a sustained and targeted colon-specific release of Q from the Q-loaded EFM containing GOS, and the release rate of Q was enhanced by the presence of GOS. The obtained film also exhibited inhibition effects on Caco-2 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy analysis indicated that the Q-loaded EFM containing GOS exerted its activity on colonic cancer cells by arresting the cell cycle in the G0/G1 phase and triggering apoptotic cell death. This study demonstrates the potential of the obtained film as an oral delivery system for encapsulation, protection, and release of Q at the colon for the oral therapy of colon disorders.

Abstract
Landfill leachate is a typical refractory wastewater for which research into rapid and efficient treatment methods has become very topical. In this study, a coagulation-ozonation process was developed to treat the concentrate arising from membrane treatment of landfill leachate. The effect of coagulant type and initial pH on treatment efficiencies was investigated. Results showed that many of organics were effectively removed in the coagulation process. Thereafter, ozone was applied to further treat the coagulation-resistant organic substances. Our results revealed that the degradation rate of these coagulation-resistant substances followed the trend (color number) CN > (light absorbance at 254 nm) UV254 > (chemical oxygen demand) COD, and the residual coagulation-resistant substances were oxidized rapidly in the ozone process. Ozone first destroyed the molecular structure of fulvic acid and the by-products generated, such as protein-like substances. In addition, the molecular weight, organic condensation degree, and concentration of benzene ring compounds were considerably decreased. Moreover, the macro molecular organics (i.e., humic acid and fulvic acid) within the size range 1-100 kDa were effectively degraded and partially transformed into bicarbonate. Overall, the combined coagulation-ozonation process reduced COD, UV254, and CN in the landfill leachate concentrate by 88.32%, 94.37%, and 98.83%, respectively, and thus the biodegradability of the treated leachate also was significantly improved. This excellent performance proved the feasibility of the combined coagulation-ozonation process for the removal of recalcitrant organic substances contained in landfill leachate concentrate, benefiting subsequent biological treatment.

Abstract
Shale gas flowback fluid (SGF) is generated during shale gas extraction and typically contains a variety of toxic and refractory organic compounds. In this work, a microwave-activated persulfate process (MW-PS process) was developed to pretreat SGF. The major factors influencing the treatment efficiency of the MW-PS process (PS dose, initial pH, MW power, and reaction time) were optimized, and the synergetic effect (SE), degradation of recalcitrant matter, and energy consumption were systematically investigated. Results showed that the SE of the process reached a high index (i.e., 9.85), suggesting a significant synergetic effect of MW and PS. In addition, under the optimal MW-PS condition (PS dose of 2.5 g/L, MW power of 900 W, and initial pH of 2), chemical oxygen demand removal reached 66.40% in a short reaction time of 10 min. Other analyses demonstrated that benzene series compounds, organic acids, lipid substances, alkanes, antioxidants, and fluorescent dissolved organic matter in SGF were decomposed to smaller-molecule organic matter, suggesting that refractory and toxic organic matter was removed by the MW-PS treatment process. Overall, the results of this study showed that MW-PS technology is an effective and promising method to treat SGF once the operation parameters are optimized.

Abstract
To improve the oral bioavailability of quercetin (Q) and achieve colon-specific release, a core-sheath electrospun fiber mat containing Q-loaded chitosan nanoparticle (Q-loaded EFM) was developed in this study. The nanoparticle was first fabricated, and its antioxidant activity was as effective as free Q. Then the uniform Q-loaded EFM was obtained using response surface methodology optimization, and its core-sheath structure was characterized by confocal laser scanning microscopy. In vitro release kinetics confirmed the colon targeting profile, and the release rate of Q varied inversely with fiber diameter. The data of Cell Counting Kit-8 suggested Q-loaded EFM inhibited the proliferation of Caco-2 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner with an IC50 of 4.36, 2.81, and 2.01 mg/mL after 24, 48, and 72 h, respectively, and it was caused by arresting cell cycle on G0/G1 phase and triggering apoptotic cell death. This study suggests that the Q-loaded EFM represents a promising form in the oral therapy of colon disorders.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the safety and efficacy of percutaneous intervention of children with combined congenital heart abnormality solely guided by transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) . Methods: From September 2015 to June 2017, 21 children with combined congenital heart abnormality undergoing percutaneous interventional guided by TTE in Fuwai hospital were enrolled in our study, and the clinical data were retrospective analyzed. The atrial septal defect(ASD) closure, ventricular septal defect(VSD) closure, patent ductus arteriosus(PDA) closure or balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty were performed under the guidance of TTE. The procedural effect was evaluated by TTE after operation. The patients were followed up after discharged from the hospital. Results: The age was (37.3±11.6) months, and there were 9 male and 12 female patients. There were 4 cases with ASD and VSD, 6 cases with VSD and PDA, 6 cases with ASD and PDA, 2 cases with VSD and pulmonary stenosis, 3 cases with ASD and pulmonary stenosis. The operations were successfully performed in all patients. No one required extra X ray guidance or open heart surgery. The operation time was (44.6±7.5)min. All patients did not require blood transfusion, inotropic support, and analgesia. There were no complications such as peripheral vascular injury and pericardialeffusion after the operation. The length of hospital stay time was (3.5±0.6) days. All patients were recovered well. The follow-up was (17.6±5.2) months, and post-procedural conduction disturbances, residual shunts, occlude fall off, thrombosis, and new onset of valvular regurgitation were not observed in these patients. Conclusion: Percutaneous interventional of children with combined congenital heart abnormality solely guided by TTE is safe and effective, and the procedure can avoid the potential injuries of X ray and contrast agent.

Abstract
Urea is the most important precursor of ethyl carbamate (EC), a harmful carcinogenic product, in fermented wines. In this study, the effects of four GATA transcriptional factors (Gln3p, Gat1p, Dal80p ,and Gzf3p) on extracellular urea and EC formation and transcriptional changes in urea degradation related genes ( DUR1,2 and DUR3) were examined. Compared to the WT strain, the Δ gzf3 mutant showed 18.7% urea reduction and exhibited synergistic effects with overexpressed Gln3p1-653 and Gat1p1-375 on extracellular urea reduction. Moreover, Δ gzf3+Gln3p1-653 and Δ gzf3+Gat1p1-375 showed significant 38.7% and 43.7% decreases in urea concentration and 41.7% and 48.5% decreases in EC concentration, respectively, in a model rice wine system. These results provide a promising way to reduce urea and EC formation during wine fermentation and raise some cues for the regulations of the four GATA transcriptional factors on the expression of individual nitrogen catabolite repression sensitive genes and their related metabolism pathway.

Abstract
By adaptation of a literature method developed in the glucose series and standard protecting group manipulations a 2-deoxy-D-glucose derivative is converted to a series of 1R,2R,5R-3-hydroxymethyl-cyclohexen-1,2,5-triol derivatives whose reduction to the corresponding diastereomeric D-gluco and L-ido-2-deoxy carbasugars is studied. When the hydroxymethyl group is tied up in a cyclic isopropylidene acetal with the adjacent 6-hydroxy group the cis-fused products with the ido-configuration are formed preferentially whereas protection of the hydroxymethyl group as a methoxymethyl ether results in the formation of the D-gluco isomer on hydrogenation over Raney nickel. This result is rationalized in terms of the minimization of allylic strain in the course of the reduction, enables the preparation of the carbasugar pseudo-2-deoxy-α-D-glucopyranose, and suggests that the conformation of the side chain is an important control element in the chemistry of the pseudosugars as it is in the sugars themselves.

Abstract
A critical review of the state-of-the-art evidence in support of the mechanisms of glycosylation reactions is provided. Factors affecting the stability of putative oxocarbenium ions as intermediates at the SN1 end of the mechanistic continuum are first surveyed before the evidence, spectroscopic and indirect, for the existence of such species on the time scale of glycosylation reactions is presented. Current models for diastereoselectivity in nucleophilic attack on oxocarbenium ions are then described. Evidence in support of the intermediacy of activated covalent glycosyl donors is reviewed, before the influences of the structure of the nucleophile, of the solvent, of temperature, and of donor-acceptor hydrogen bonding on the mechanism of glycosylation reactions are surveyed. Studies on the kinetics of glycosylation reactions and the use of kinetic isotope effects for the determination of transition-state structure are presented, before computational models are finally surveyed. The review concludes with a critical appraisal of the state of the art.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) inhibitors are a class of small-molecule inhibitors approved for the treatment of certain leukaemias and lymphomas. Their dermatological adverse event profile is poorly described. AIM To characterize a rare cutaneous adverse event from PI3K inhibitors in order to help dermatologists and oncologists identify and effectively manage such eruptions. METHODS This was a retrospective analysis of patients receiving PI3K inhibitors referred to the Skin Toxicities Program in The Center for Cutaneous Oncology. RESULTS Three patients on PI3K inhibitors for treatment of malignancy developed diffuse erythroderma and keratoderma. Clinical and histopathological findings were consistent with pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP)-like reactions. All patients improved with topical and oral corticosteroids, oral acitretin, and drug discontinuation. CONCLUSIONS PRP-like cutaneous eruptions may develop secondary to PI3K inhibition. Early dermatological evaluation of cutaneous toxicities to PI3K inhibitors as well as rapid initiation of disease-specific treatments may help keep patients on life-prolonging anti-cancer therapies.

Abstract
Colloidal semiconductor quantum dot (CQD)-based photocathodes for solar-driven hydrogen evolution have attracted significant attention because of their tunable size, nanostructured morphology, crystalline orientation, and band gap. Here, we report a thin film heterojunction photocathode composed of organic PEDOT:PSS as a hole transport layer, CdSe CQDs as a semiconductor light absorber, and conformal Pt layer deposited by atomic layer deposition (ALD) serving as both a passivation layer and cocatalyst for hydrogen evolution. In neutral aqueous solution, a PEDOT:PSS/CdSe/Pt heterogeneous photocathode with 200 cycles of ALD Pt produces a photocurrent density of -1.08 mA/cm2 (AM-1.5G, 100 mW/cm2) at a potential of 0 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) ( j0) in neutral aqueous solution, which is nearly 12 times that of the pristine CdSe photocathode. This composite photocathode shows an onset potential for water reduction at +0.46 V versus RHE and long-term stability with negligible degradation. In the acidic electrolyte (pH = 1), where the hydrogen evolution reaction is more favorable but stability is limited because of photocorrosion, a thicker Pt film (300 cycles) is shown to greatly improve the device stability and a j0 of -2.14 mA/cm2 is obtained with only 8.3% activity degradation after 6 h, compared with 80% degradation under the same conditions when the less conformal electrodeposition method is used to deposit the Pt layer. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and time-resolved photoluminescence results indicate that these enhancements stem from a lower bulk charge recombination rate, higher interfacial charge-transfer rate, and faster reaction kinetics. We believe that these interface engineering strategies can be extended to other colloidal semiconductors to construct more efficient and stable heterogeneous photoelectrodes for solar fuel production.

Abstract
Objective: To observe the effects of sural nerve nutrition vessels-supported flap for reconstruction of distal lower leg and ankle soft tissue defects. Methods: From June 2014 to June 2017, 37 patients with calf distal and ankle soft tissue defect were repaired with sural nerve nutrition vessels-supported flap, of them 12 cases with calf distal soft tissue defect wounds and 25 cases with ankle soft tissue defect wounds.The scope of flaps was 9 cm×4 cm to 18 cm×9 cm, anti-infection, anti-freezing and dressing treatments were carried out after operation.The results of two-point discrimination among reexamination were recorded. Results: All the flaps survived without ulcer and effusion, only 1 flap for reconstruction of medial malleolus swelled and deactivated at the beginning while it recovered with proper dressings.During the follow-up periods, all the flaps kept favorable feelings, aspects and functions, and the two-point discrimination was 5 to 15 mm [averaged (11.2±1.7) mm]. Conclusion: Sural nerve nutrition vessels-supported flap brings significant effects with excellent safety and reliability in repairing calf and ankle soft tissue defects.

Abstract
Highly efficient and stable electrocatalysts, particularly those that are capable of multifunctionality in the same electrolyte, are in high demand for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), oxygen evolution reaction (OER), and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). In this work, highly monodisperse CoP and Co2 P nanocrystals (NCs) are synthesized using a robust solution-phase method. The highly exposed (211) crystal plane and abundant surface phosphide atoms make the CoP NCs efficient catalysts toward ORR and HER, while metal-rich Co2 P NCs show higher OER performance owing to easier formation of plentiful Co2 P@COOH heterojunctions. Density functional theory calculation results indicate that the desorption of OH* from cobalt sites is the rate-limiting step for both CoP and Co2 P in ORR and that the high content of phosphide can lower the reaction barrier. A water electrolyzer constructed with a CoP NC cathode and a Co2 P NC anode can achieve a current density of 10 mA cm-2 at 1.56 V, comparable even to the noble metal-based Pt/C and RuO2 /C pair. Furthermore, the CoP NCs are employed as an air cathode in a primary zinc-air battery, exhibiting a high power density of 62 mW cm-2 and good stability.

Abstract
A novel electrospun colon-specific delivery system for salmon calcitonin (SCT) was developed to improve its stability and bioavailability. Firstly, the pectin-coated SCT liposomes were prepared by film dispersion method and then a liposomes/sodium alginate/polyvinyl alcohol fiber mat was fabricated by electrospining. Scanning electron microscopy analysis indicated that the obtained nanofibers were uniform and smooth with an average diameter of about 350 nm. The release of SCT in different simulated digestive fluids was studied and corresponding release kinetics models were built. It was found that the fiber mat containing pectin-coated SCT liposomes had better stability and colon-specific properties compared with that containing uncoated SCT liposomes and the release of SCT in the colon followed the case II transport mechanism. In addition, there is no significant change in the bioactivity of released SCT measured by ELISA. This study shows that the electrospun colon-specific fiber mat is a potential delivery system for bioactive peptides. The electrospun colon-specific fiber mat is a promising delivery system for SCT.![]()

Abstract
Electrospinning is a simple and versatile encapsulation technology. Since electrospinning does not involve severe conditions of temperature or pressure or the use of harsh chemicals, it has great potential for effectively entrapping and delivering bioactive compounds. Recently, electrospinning has been used in the food industry to encapsulate bioactive compounds into different biopolymers (carbohydrates and proteins), protecting them from adverse environmental conditions, maintaining the health-promoting properties, and achieving their controlled release. Electrospinning opens a new horizon in food technology with possible commercialization in the near future. This review summarizes the principles and the types of electrospinning processes. The electrospinning of biopolymers and their application in encapsulating of bioactive compounds are highlighted. The existing scope, limitations, and future prospects of electrospinning bioactive compounds are also presented.

Abstract
Although the benefits of mentoring for protégés’ career-related outcomes have been largely confirmed, little research has examined whether this benefit can extend to the protégés’ life domains outside of work. In this study, we investigate the impact of the extent of workplace mentoring support on protégés’ subjective well-being (SWB). Based on data that were collected from a two-wave survey of 253 protégés in ongoing mentoring programs in China, the results showed that the extent of the mentoring support was significantly related to the protégés’ SWB (i.e., satisfaction with life, positive affect, and negative affect) through their psychological safety. Furthermore, the perceived mentor status of protégés moderated the relationship between the extent of mentoring support and the protégés’ psychological safety, such that the relationship was stronger when the perceived mentor status was higher rather than lower. The theoretical and managerial implications of our findings are also discussed.
