Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is an arrhythmia of increasing prevalence. One of the important indicators for AF is sustained atrial dilatation, highlighting the importance of mechanical overload in the pathophysiology of AF. The mechanisms by which atrial cells, including fibroblasts, sense and react to such changing mechanical forces, are not fully elucidated. Here, we characterise stretch-activated ion channels (SAC) in human atrial fibroblasts and changes in their expression and activity associated with AF.
Using primary cultures of human atrial fibroblasts, isolated from patients in sinus rhythm or with sustained AF, we combine electrophysiological, molecular and pharmacological tools to identify SAC. Two electrophysiological SAC-signatures were detected, indicative of cation-nonselective and potassium-selective channels. Using siRNA-mediated knockdown, we identified the nonselective SAC as Piezo1. Biophysical properties of the potassium-selective channel and its pharmacology indicated presence of ‘big potassium channels’, BKCa. In cells from AF patients, Piezo1 activity and mRNA expression levels were higher than in cells from sinus rhythm patients, while BKCa activity (but not expression) was downregulated. Both Piezo1-knockdown and removal of extracellular calcium from the patch pipette resulted in a significant reduction of stretch-induced BKCa current. No co-immunoprecipitation of Piezo1 and BKCa was detected.
Human atrial fibroblasts express functional Piezo1 and BKCa channels. While Piezo1 is directly stretch-activated, the increase in BKCa activity during mechanical stimulation appears to be mainly secondary to calcium influx via SAC such as Piezo1. During sustained AF, Piezo1 is increased, while BKCa activity is reduced, highlighting differential regulation of both channels. Our data show the presence and activity of Piezo1 and BKCa in human atrial fibroblasts and suggest an interplay between the two in the absence of direct physical interactions.

Introduction
Amyloid-like protein aggregates play a decisive role in the pathology of heart failure. Alterations in protein homeostasis, in particular, the clearance of toxic amyloid-like aggregates are emerging therapeutic targets in cardiovascular medicine. The clinical benefits of cardiac rehabilitation and exercise training are widely accepted in heart failure; however, little is known about the potential benefit of exercise training in amyloid-like protein aggregates.
Purpose
To assess the effects of a moderate-intensity exercise training program on amyloid-like protein aggregates levels among patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.
Methods
Eighteen subjects participated in the study; eight patients (age: 66.6 ± 5.9 years; FEVE: 38.4 ± 8.9%) with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction participated in a 3-month exercise training program (2 x 60 min sessions per week of moderate-intensity aerobic and resistance exercise). Ten healthy subjects (age: 68. 4 ± 3.1 years) were recruited to an age-matched reference group. Amyloid-like protein aggregates were assessed before and after 3 months of exercise training. Clinical data, medication, anthropometrics, and cardiorespiratory fitness were also assessed. Thioflavin T (ThT) dye fluorescence was used to quantify the plasma levels of amyloid-like aggregates and the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was applied to evaluate the conformation of cross-β-sheet structures characteristic of amyloid protein aggregates.
Results
Exercise program improved cardiorespiratory fitness by 14.0 ± 17.1% (17.4 ± 3.2 to 19.7 ± 2.9 ml/kg/min) and reduced NT-proBNP levels by 16.5% (34.2) (median concentration of 632 pg/mL (720.8) to 517.5 pg/mL (707.0)) in the heart failure patients. A slight decrease of amyloid-like aggregates levels was observed in post-exercise training samples (a reduction of 3.1%); interestingly, after the exercise training program, the heart failure patients showed levels of amyloid-like aggregates similar to the reference group (1132.0 ± 114.2 vs. 1094.8 ± 132.9 a.u.). Additionally, the PLS-R multivariate analysis of the amide I region of the FTIR spectra revealed enrichment of antiparallel β-sheets (1693 cm-1) assigned to amyloid-like oligomers in the samples of heart failure patients before, but not after, the exercise program. Of note, oligomeric species, as intermediates of amyloid assembly, can contribute to the increase of amyloid burden, but also, some have been reported to be highly reactive and toxic to cells, being key elements of amyloid pathogenesis.
Conclusions
Our preliminary results indicate that 3 months of exercise training may have significant effects on amyloid-like oligomers, and start hindering the formation of the larger ThT-positive aggregates among patients with heart failure.

Background
Limited data is available on physical activity (PA) levels in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) patients, as well as on the impact of using different tools to assess PA such as questionnaires and accelerometers.
Purpose
We aimed to quantify PA levels of CTEPH patients and study its clinical correlates, as well as to compare PA levels measured by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) with measures from accelerometers.
Methods
This is a cross-sectional study (n = 50). Physical activity levels were measured using accelerometers and questionnaire (IPAQ). Clinical parameters evaluated were walked distance on the 6-minute-walking test (6MWT), pulmonary vascular resistance, N-terminal brain natriuretic peptide and quality of life (HRQoL) using the Cambridge Pulmonary Hypertension Outcome Review questionnaire.
Results
Accelerometer-derived data showed that CTEPH patients spent 60% of the recorded time in sedentary behaviours and only 2% in moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA). MVPA was mildly correlated with 6MWT (r = 0.359; p= 0.023) and symptom domain of HRQoL (r=-0.371; p = 0.044) but not with NT-proBNP, pulmonary vascular resistance or functional domain of HRQoL. Time spent in sedentary behaviour was lower in self-reported measurement (279 ± 165min/day) compared to accelerometry (446 ± 117min/day, p < 0.001). Self-reported MVPA was significantly higher than the one registered by the accelerometer (411 ± 569 vs. 131 ± 108 min/week, p = 0.027). Bland-Altman analysis indicated poor agreement between the two methods.
Conclusions
Our results showed that CTEPH patients spend most of their days in sedentary behaviors and only a small amount of time in MVPA. MVPA was associated with symptoms domain of HRQoL and submaximal functional capacity. In addition, we showed a poor agreement between self-reported and accelerometer-derived PA in CTEPH patients, with the former overestimating the overall PA activity.

Elliptic Flow of Electrons from Beauty-Hadron Decays in Pb-Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2021; 126:162001. Abstract
The elliptic flow of electrons from beauty hadron decays at midrapidity (|y|<0.8) is measured in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The azimuthal distribution of the particles produced in the collisions can be parametrized with a Fourier expansion, in which the second harmonic coefficient represents the elliptic flow, v_{2}. The v_{2} coefficient of electrons from beauty hadron decays is measured for the first time in the transverse momentum (p_{T}) range 1.3-6 GeV/c in the centrality class 30%-50%. The measurement of electrons from beauty-hadron decays exploits their larger mean proper decay length cτ≈500 μm compared to that of charm hadrons and most of the other background sources. The v_{2} of electrons from beauty hadron decays at midrapidity is found to be positive with a significance of 3.75 σ. The results provide insights into the degree of thermalization of beauty quarks in the medium. A model assuming full thermalization of beauty quarks is strongly disfavored by the measurement at high p_{T}, but is in agreement with the results at low p_{T}. Transport models including substantial interactions of beauty quarks with an expanding strongly interacting medium describe the measurement within uncertainties.

Abstract
Although previous imaging studies in borderline personality disorder (BPD) have found brain abnormalities, the results have been inconsistent. This study aimed to investigate structural brain abnormalities using voxel-based morphometry (VBM) and cortical thickness (Cth) analyses in a large sample of patients with BPD. Additionally, we aimed to determine the correlation between structural abnormalities and clinical severity and to assess its potential value at predicting psychotherapeutic response. Sixty-one individuals with BPD and 19 healthy controls underwent magnetic resonance imaging. Participants with BPD completed several self-report clinical scales, received dialectical-behavioral therapy skills training and post-therapy changes in clinical scores were also recorded. Gray matter volume (GMV) and Cth differences between groups were compared. Within the BPD group, we further characterized the structural brain correlates of clinical severity and investigated the relationship between pre-therapy structural abnormalities and therapeutic response. As potential confounders we included age, sex, educational level, and total intracranial volume (the latter only in VBM analyses). Compared to controls, the BPD group showed a reduced GMV/Cth in prefrontal areas but increased GMV in the limbic structures (amygdala and parahippocampal regions). Prefrontal abnormalities correlated with higher baseline scores on impulsivity and general BPD severity. Increased GMV in the parahippocampal area correlated with a greater emotion dysregulation. Importantly, several baseline structural abnormalities correlated with worse response to psychotherapy. Patients with BPD showed a reduced GMV in the prefrontal areas but a greater GMV in the limbic structures. Several structural abnormalities (i.e. middle and inferior prefrontal areas, anterior insula, or parahippocampal area) correlated with clinical severity and could potentially be used as imaging biological correlates biomarkers to predict psychotherapy response.

Abstract
Abstract
Background/Introduction
The neurokinin-III receptor (NK3R) was recently shown to regulate action potential duration (APD) in atrial cardiomyocytes by inhibition of a background potassium current. In the human heart, TASK-1 (hK2P3.1) two-pore-domain potassium channels display atrial-specific expression. Because of their phospholipase C (PLC)-dependent regulation, TASK-1 channels are a promising candidate to mediate APD prolongation via the Gq-coupled neurokinin-III receptor.
Purpose
To investigate whether TASK-1 channels mediate neurokinin-III receptor activation induced APD prolongation and to dissect the underlying molecular mechanisms.
Methods
Patch clamp measurements were performed in atrial cardiomyocytes isolated from patients with atrial fibrillation. Xenopus laevis oocytes heterologously expressing hTASK-1 and hNK3R were subjected to two-electrode voltage-clamp recordings.
Results
In Xenopus oocytes heterologously overexpressing hNK3R and hTASK-1 administration of substance P or neurokinin B resulted in TASK-1 current inhibition. This could be reproduced by application of the high affinity neurokinin-III receptor agonist senktide. Moreover, preincubation with the neurokinin-III receptor antagonist osanetant blunted the effect of senktide. Pharmacological experiments and mutagenesis studies could show a protein kinase C (PKC)-independent mechanism of TASK-1 current inhibition: upon NK3R activation TASK-1 channels are blocked via Gq-mediated PLC activation, in a DAG-dependent fashion. Finally, effects of senktide on atrial background currents could be reproduced in human atrial cardiomyocytes isolated from patients with atrial fibrillation.
Conclusion
Neurokinin-III receptor stimulation suppresses background potassium currents in isolated human atrial cardiomyocytes from patients with atrial fibrillation. Heterologously expressed human TASK-1 channels are inhibited by neurokinin-III receptor activation in a PLC and DAG dependent fashion, suggesting neuropeptides as novel regulators of human atrial TASK-1 currents.

Eur Heart J 2020. Abstract
Abstract
Background
Current echocardiographic guidelines recommend five parameters to define severity of aortic stenosis (AS): peak velocity (PV), mean gradient (MG), aortic valve area (AVA), index AVA (AVAi), and dimensionless index (DI). However, the clinical utility of these parameters for patients with moderate AS largely remain unknown.
Objective
To investigate the clinical profiles and outcomes of patients with moderate AS according to five different definitions for severity.
Methods
Using standard echocardiographic definitions, we identified patients with moderate AS who were evaluated in our health care system from 2011 to 2012. Patient demographics, morbidities, and adverse events were reviewed, including death, heart failure (HF) admission, and aortic valve replacement (AVR).
Results
We enrolled 1,042 patients (age, 75±12 yrs; 40% women). Very few patients (4%) met all five criteria for moderate AS, while 49% had only one or two criteria met. DI was the most common parameter for defining moderate AS, employed in 93% of patients. Patients with area-based indices (i.e., AVA, AVAi, DI) had lower stroke volume index, lower mean gradients, lower peak velocities, and more morbidities in comparison to those flow-based definitions of severity (i.e., PV, MG). During a median follow-up of 5.7 years, overall survival was poor with all-cause mortality of 62.8%. Notably, there was no difference in the rates of mortality (range, 56.4 to 63.3%) or HF hospitalization (range, 28.9 to 32.2%) for groups defined by the five parameters, though patients with flow-based definitions more likely had AVR in follow-up.
Conclusions
Most patients with moderate AS meet the definition for severity with one or few criteria. Regardless of the method of definition for severity, a high rate of mortality and morbidity can occur in patients with moderate AS. Further study to optimize the clinical outcomes of patients with moderate AS is warranted.

Abstract
Background and objectives The Covid-19 pandemic has put healthcare professionals around the world in an unprecedented challenge. This may cause some emotional difficulties and mental health problems. The aim of the present study was to analyze the emotional status among the health care workers form the Hospital of Igualada (Barcelona), while they were facing with Covid-19 in one of the most affected regions in all of Europe. Patients and methods A total of 395 participants were included in the study. A cross-sectional assessment was carried out between the months of March and April. Information about anxiety, depression, and stress was gathered. We also collected demographic data and concerning potentially stressful factors. Results A significant proportion of professionals reported symptoms of anxiety (31.4%) and depression (12.2%) from moderate to severe intensity. Symptoms of acute stress were reported by 14.5% of participants. We performed a regression analysis, which explained the 30% of the variance associated with the degree of emotional distress (R² = 0.30). The final model reveals that females (or young males), who are working in the frontline as nursing assistants, caretakers or radiology technicians, with the uncertainty of a possible infection, the perception of inadequate protection measures and having experienced the death of a close person by Covid-19, showed a heightened risk of experiencing psychological distress. Conclusions Coping with the Covid-19 pandemic caused a significant impact on emotional status of healthcare workers involved in this study.

Abstract
In this Letter, we report the first measurement of the inelastic cross section for antideuteron-nucleus interactions at low particle momenta, covering a range of 0.3≤p<4 GeV/c. The measurement is carried out using p-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon pair of sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV, recorded with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC and utilizing the detector material as an absorber for antideuterons and antiprotons. The extracted raw primary antiparticle-to-particle ratios are compared to the results from detailed ALICE simulations based on the geant4 toolkit for the propagation of (anti)particles through the detector material. The analysis of the raw primary (anti)proton spectra serves as a benchmark for this study, since their hadronic interaction cross sections are well constrained experimentally. The first measurement of the inelastic cross section for antideuteron-nucleus interactions averaged over the ALICE detector material with atomic mass numbers ⟨A⟩=17.4 and 31.8 is obtained. The measured inelastic cross section points to a possible excess with respect to the Glauber model parametrization used in geant4 in the lowest momentum interval of 0.3≤p<0.47 GeV/c up to a factor 2.1. This result is relevant for the understanding of antimatter propagation and the contributions to antinuclei production from cosmic ray interactions within the interstellar medium. In addition, the momentum range covered by this measurement is of particular importance to evaluate signal predictions for indirect dark-matter searches.

Abstract
Data on the beam asymmetry Σ in the photoproduction of η mesons off protons are reported for tagged photon energies from 1130 to 1790 MeV (mass range from W=1748 MeV to W=2045 MeV). The data cover the full solid angle that allows for a precise moment analysis. For the first time, a strong cusp effect in a polarization observable has been observed that is an effect of a branch-point singularity at the pη^{'} threshold [E_{γ}=1447 MeV (W=1896 MeV)]. The latest BnGa partial wave analysis includes the new beam asymmetry data and yields a strong indication for the N(1895)1/2^{-} nucleon resonance, demonstrating the importance of including all singularities for a correct determination of partial waves and resonance parameters.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
While life expectancy (LE) is rising, years lived with severe health impairments especially due to chronic diseases also increase. Diabetes is one of the major chronic diseases with high potential for co-morbidity and premature deaths needing life-long care. Therefore, information about loss in LE and healthy life years (HLY) in people with diabetes compared to people without diabetes is essential for assessing the burden of diabetes.
Methods
Data on all-cause mortality rates for the general population of Germany in 2014 was drawn from the Federal Statistical Office; mortality rate ratios for people with diabetes compared to people without diabetes were based on claims data from about 70 million people covered by statutory health insurances in 2014. Data of three nationwide health telephone surveys conducted among adults in Germany 2009-2012 (n ∼ 60,000) were used to assess severe health impairments defined as self-reported limitations in daily activities due to diseases for at least six months in people with and without diabetes. Based on these figures, estimates on LE and HLY could be calculated by sex and 5-year age-groups for people with and without diabetes aged ≥ 30 years.
Results
In both sexes and in all 5-year age-groups, LE and HLY were substantially lower for people with than for people without diabetes. For example, among women in the age group 30-34 years, LE and HLY estimates were 48.0 and 36.4 years for those with diabetes compared to 54.9 and 47.6 years for those without diabetes; in men, these figures were estimated as 42.6 and 32.4 years for those with diabetes compared to 50.3 and 44.1 years for those without diabetes. Differences in LE and HLY between people with and without diabetes attenuated with increasing age.
Conclusions
The present study revealed substantial reductions in LE and HLY related to diabetes and underlines the importance of integrating both figures in a national diabetes surveillance.
Key messages
There are substantial differences in life expectancy and healthy life years between people with and without diabetes. Specific intervention and prevention activities should be implemented to tackle disability in persons with diabetes.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Non-communicable diseases (NCD) are a major public health challenge in Germany and throughout the world. The epidemiology of diabetes, in particular type 2 diabetes, exemplifies the need for effective prevention and control. To support policy making with actionable evidence, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is developing a diabetes surveillance system for Germany serving as model for NCD surveillance.
Methods
First, we consented a conceptual framework and key indicators among experts and stakeholders based on an extensive literature review including national and international NCD surveillance systems. After prioritization of indicators applying a two-step Delphi method, we identified data sources for sustainable surveillance including data from nationwide RKI health surveys as well as external data such as claims or registry data. Lastly, in cooperation with stakeholders we developed first dissemination products.
Results
During concept phase, we identified 40 indicators ranging from risk factors, disease incidence and prevalence to quality of care, mortality and burden of disease. During implementation, suitable data sources and results on temporal trends have been obtained for a large part of the indicators. For dissemination we developed a website with interactive visualization of results supported by an explainer video on YouTube. Additionally, we prepared a printed diabetes report summarizing and interpreting key findings for a broader audience, including health politicians and public health researchers.
Conclusions
We demonstrated the feasibility of the systematic collection and analysis of health data to describe the disease and care situation of diabetes in Germany. The methodology and data sources of indicators can be transferred to further NCDs and shared risk factors are already depicted. Next steps are to close remaining data gaps and to advance dissemination products in collaboration with our stakeholder network tailored to their information needs.
Key messages
Considering available health data, we showed the feasibility of implementing a diabetes surveillance system for Germany providing reliable information on disease dynamics for various stakeholders. The knowledge on methodology and data sources gained establishing a diabetes surveillance system can be extended to other noncommunicable diseases.

We performed a regression analysis, which explained the 30% of the variance associated with the degree of emotional distress (Ry=0.30).

Probing the Effects of Strong Electromagnetic Fields with Charge-Dependent Directed Flow in Pb-Pb Collisions at the LHC. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2020; 125:022301. Abstract
The first measurement at the LHC of charge-dependent directed flow (v_{1}) relative to the spectator plane is presented for Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. Results are reported for charged hadrons and D^{0} mesons for the transverse momentum intervals p_{T}>0.2 GeV/c and 3<p_{T}<6 GeV/c in the 5%-40% and 10%-40% centrality classes, respectively. The difference between the positively and negatively charged hadron v_{1} has a positive slope as a function of pseudorapidity η, dΔv_{1}/dη=[1.68±0.49(stat)±0.41(syst)]×10^{-4}. The same measurement for D^{0} and D[over ¯]^{0} mesons yields a positive value dΔv_{1}/dη=[4.9±1.7(stat)±0.6(syst)]×10^{-1}, which is about 3 orders of magnitude larger than the one of the charged hadrons. These measurements can provide new insights into the effects of the strong electromagnetic field and the initial tilt of matter created in noncentral heavy ion collisions on the dynamics of light (u, d, and s) and heavy (c) quarks. The large difference between the observed Δv_{1} of charged hadrons and D^{0} mesons may reflect different sensitivity of the charm and light quarks to the early time dynamics of a heavy ion collision. These observations challenge some recent theoretical calculations, which predicted a negative and an order of magnitude smaller value of dΔv_{1}/dη for both light flavor and charmed hadrons.

Evidence of Spin-Orbital Angular Momentum Interactions in Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2020; 125:012301. Abstract
The first evidence of spin alignment of vector mesons (K^{*0} and ϕ) in heavy-ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is reported. The spin density matrix element ρ_{00} is measured at midrapidity (|y|<0.5) in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy (sqrt[s_{NN}]) of 2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector. ρ_{00} values are found to be less than 1/3 (1/3 implies no spin alignment) at low transverse momentum (p_{T}<2 GeV/c) for K^{*0} and ϕ at a level of 3σ and 2σ, respectively. No significant spin alignment is observed for the K_{S}^{0} meson (spin=0) in Pb-Pb collisions and for the vector mesons in pp collisions. The measured spin alignment is unexpectedly large but qualitatively consistent with the expectation from models which attribute it to a polarization of quarks in the presence of angular momentum in heavy-ion collisions and a subsequent hadronization by the process of recombination.

OP0086 THE DEGREE OF BONE MARROW EDEMA AS DETECTED BY MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING IN THE SACROILIAC JOINTS AND THE SPINE SUSPICIOUS OF AXIAL SPONDYLOARTHRITIS IN THE GENERAL POPULATION IS ASSOCIATED WITH DIFFERENT FACTORS. Abstract
Background:Taking advantage of a large population-based study we have recently reported that the frequency of bone marrow edema (BME) and fatty lesions (FL) in the sacroiliac joints (SIJ) and the spine of individuals <45 years detected by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) suggestive of axial spondyloathritis (axSpA) is higher than expected. Objectives:To identify and compare factors associated with the extension of MRI lesions in the spine and the SIJ in the general population. Methods:All available spinal- (sagittal T1/T2 sequences) and SIJ- (semicoronal STIR sequences) MRIs were evaluated by two trained readers blinded to clinical data. BME (SIJ and spine) suggestive of axSpA were recorded. The extension of BME was quantified using the Berlin MRI score. Discrepancies were resolved by consensus. Degenerative lesions of the Modic type were excluded. The association of age (increase per decade), sex, HLA-B27 and hsCRP positivity, smoking (ever smoker vs. no smoker), spinal pain (yes vs. no in last 3 months), body mass index (BMI) categories (WHO definition), physically demanding job, and giving birth within the last 12 month with the severity of BME were examined. Associations between clinical factors and the Berlin MRI score were analyzed by negative binomial regression models resulting in incidence rate ratios (IRRs).Results:MRIs of 793 volunteers from the general population, mean age 37.3±6.3 years, 49.4% male, 8.9% HLA B27+, 7% CRP-positive, 56.9% with back pain in the last 3 months (28.8% with back pain NRS ≥4/10), 35.7% reported physically heavy work, 55% with BMI > 25 kg/m2, 16.2% current smokers, and 5% of females with pregnancy in the last year before MRI examination, were evaluated. For BME on SIJ-MRIs, significant associations (IRR, 95% confidence level) were found for pregnancy in the last year (3.82, 1.17-14.24), HLA-B27+ (2.42, 1.33-4.55), BMI (25-30 vs. <25; 2.09 (1.33-3.31)) and presence of back pain in the last 3 months (1.54, 1.02-2.33).For BME on spinal MRIs, significant associations were found for age per decade increase (1.45, 1.10-1.91) and physically demanding work (1.45, 1.04-2.00), while HLA-B27+ (1.32, 0.79-2.24), BMI (>30: 0.84, 0.53-1.32 (<25 reference)) and back pain in the last 3 months (1.29, 0.95-1.77) showed no association. Overall, spinal BME was more frequent than SIJ BME in the participants working at a desktop (61.5% vs. 54.4%), while smokers (66.9% vs. 63.8%) and participants with back pain in the last 3 months (62.5% vs. 56.9%) had more often SIJ BME than spinal BME, respectively. Conclusion:In this population-based study, individuals aged <45 years, HLA-B27+, women with pregnancy in the last year and presence of back pain were associated with the extent of BME in the SIJ, while age and physically demanding work were associated with the extent of BME in the spine. These data support the hypothesis of a mechanic origin of BME in the general population aged <45 years, while HLA B27 is a severity but not a susceptibility factor for BME in the SIJ.Acknowledgments:n/aDisclosure of Interests:Xenofon Baraliakos Grant/research support from: Grant/research support from: AbbVie, BMS, Celgene, Chugai, Merck, Novartis, Pfizer, UCB and Werfen, Consultant of: AbbVie, BMS, Celgene, Chugai, Merck, Novartis, Pfizer, UCB and Werfen, Speakers bureau: AbbVie, BMS, Celgene, Chugai, Merck, Novartis, Pfizer, UCB and Werfen, Adrian Richter: None declared, Daniel Feldmann: None declared, Anne Ott: None declared, Robin Buelow: None declared, Carsten Schmidt: None declared, Juergen Braun Grant/research support from: Abbvie (Abbott), Amgen, BMS, Boehringer, Celgene, Celltrion, Centocor, Chugai, Eli Lilly and Company, Medac, MSD (Schering Plough), Mundipharma, Novartis, Pfizer (Wyeth), Roche, Sanofi- Aventis, and UCB Pharma, Consultant of: Abbvie (Abbott), Amgen, BMS, Boehringer, Celgene, Celltrion, Centocor, Chugai, EBEWE Pharma, Eli Lilly and Company, Medac, MSD (Schering-Plough), Mundipharma, Novartis, Pfizer (Wyeth), Roche, Sanofi-Aventis, and UCB Pharma, Speakers bureau: Abbvie (Abbott), Amgen, BMS, Boehringer, Celgene, Celltrion, Centocor, Chugai, EBEWE Pharma, Eli Lilly and Company, Medac, MSD (Schering-Plough), Mundipharma, Novartis, Pfizer (Wyeth), Roche, Sanofi-Aventis, and UCB Pharma

P1077Late gadolinium enhancement with cardiac magnetic resonance imaging demonstrates left ventricular involvement is under-recognized in arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy. Abstract
Abstract
Funding Acknowledgements
The study is partially funded by Medtronic and the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation.
Background/Introduction: Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is characterized by replacement of the myocardium with fibrous and fatty tissue that may lead to an increased risk of ventricular arrhythmias and heart failure. Although left ventricular (LV) and biventricular forms have been identified post-mortem resulting in the increased use of the term arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy, there is only inclusion of right ventricular wall motion abnormalities in the taskforce diagnostic criteria.
Purpose
The aim of our study was to examine the utility of cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging in characterizing LV or biventricular involvement with late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) in a large cohort of patients with suspected ARVC.
Methods
Retrospective, single-institution, chart review of 76 patients diagnosed with ARVC between January 2009 and July 2019. Data collection and analysis included baseline demographics and parameters specific to diagnosis (definite, borderline, or possible) and risk stratification of ARVC based on 2019 modified taskforce criteria, as well as detailed CMR evaluation.
Results
Of the 76 patients with ARVC, 66 (87%) had at least one CMR with gadolinium administered. In that subset of patients, 27 (41%) had LGE. Of those with LGE, LV involvement was identified in 23 (85%) patients. The pattern of LGE was not localized to one myocardial region but demonstrated variable LV enhancement patterns including anterior, inferior, lateral, septal, basal, mid, apical, and from the sub-epicardium into the mid-myocardium.
Conclusions
Left ventricular involvement reflected by LGE was identified in a high percentage of patients with suspected ARVC, and there was significant variation in the pattern of distribution in terms of region and depth of myocardial involvement. While post-mortem examination of patients with ARVC demonstrates a high prevalence of left ventricular involvement, this study shows that CMR can consistently detect late gadolinium enhancement, and ARVC should be considered in the differential diagnosis for biventricular cardiomyopathy. The identification of variable locations of LGE within the LV suggests there is more than one phenotype, and this imaging modality may help to clarify the implications of left ventricular involvement in disease progression.

Abstract

Abstract
The study of the strength and behavior of the antikaon-nucleon (K[over ¯]N) interaction constitutes one of the key focuses of the strangeness sector in low-energy quantum chromodynamics (QCD). In this Letter a unique high-precision measurement of the strong interaction between kaons and protons, close and above the kinematic threshold, is presented. The femtoscopic measurements of the correlation function at low pair-frame relative momentum of (K^{+}p⊕K^{-}p[over ¯]) and (K^{-}p⊕K^{+}p[over ¯]) pairs measured in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=5, 7, and 13 TeV are reported. A structure observed around a relative momentum of 58 MeV/c in the measured correlation function of (K^{-}p⊕K^{+}p[over ¯]) with a significance of 4.4σ constitutes the first experimental evidence for the opening of the (K[over ¯]^{0}n⊕K^{0}n[over ¯]) isospin breaking channel due to the mass difference between charged and neutral kaons. The measured correlation functions have been compared to Jülich and Kyoto models in addition to the Coulomb potential. The high-precision data at low relative momenta presented in this work prove femtoscopy to be a powerful complementary tool to scattering experiments and provide new constraints above the K[over ¯]N threshold for low-energy QCD chiral models.

Abstract
Urbanization and associated environmental changes are causing global declines in vertebrate populations. In general, population declines of the magnitudes now detected should lead to reduced effective population sizes for animals living in proximity to humans and disturbed lands. This is a cause for concern because effective population sizes set the rate of genetic diversity loss due to genetic drift, the rate of increase in inbreeding and the efficiency with which selection can act on beneficial alleles. We predicted that the effects of urbanization should decrease effective population size and genetic diversity, and increase population-level genetic differentiation. To test for such patterns, we repurposed and reanalysed publicly archived genetic datasets for North American birds and mammals. After filtering, we had usable raw genotype data from 85 studies and 41 023 individuals, sampled from 1008 locations spanning 41 mammal and 25 bird species. We used census-based urban-rural designations, human population density and the Human Footprint Index as measures of urbanization and habitat disturbance. As predicted, mammals sampled in more disturbed environments had lower effective population sizes and genetic diversity, and were more genetically differentiated from those in more natural environments. There were no consistent relationships detectable for birds. This suggests that, in general, mammal populations living near humans may have less capacity to respond adaptively to further environmental changes, and be more likely to suffer from effects of inbreeding.
