Abstract
Prussian blue (PB) and its analogues (PBAs) have been acknowledged as promising materials for the catalysis, energy storage, and bioapplications because of different constructions and tunable composition. The approach for surface modification with metal oxides for boosting the performance, however, is rarely reported. Herein, a facile surface anchoring strategy has been proposed to realize CeO2 nanocrystals uniformly depositing on the surface of PB. Besides, the size, thickness, and depositing density of CeO2 nanocrystals can be regulated by adjusting the amount of the precursor and the proportion of ethanol and deionized water. Furthermore, after a step of confined pyrolysis treatment under an air atmosphere, CeO2 nanocrystals with an encapsulated iron oxide structure have been obtained. This shows a remarkable cycling and rate performance when evaluated as an anode of the lithium-ion battery. The surface anchoring approach of the CeO2 nanocrystals may not only promote the various applications of PB-based materials but also provide an opportunity for developing the architecture of other CeO2-based core-shell nanostructures.

Abstract
Electrocatalytic denitrification is considered as the most promising technology to transform nitrates to nitrogen gas in sewage so far. Although noble metal-based catalysts as a cathode material have reached decent removal capacity of nitrate, the high cost is the main hamper of electrocatalytic reduction. Therefore, the development of alternative catalysis toward highly effective denitrification is imperative yet still remains a significant challenge. Herein, a corchorifolius-like structure, where Fe nanoparticles are sealed in carbon microspheres (CL-Fe@C) with a rough surface, has been elaborately designed by self-assemble strategy. Impressively, the architectured CL-Fe@C microspheres are surrounded with a lot of small iron nanoparticles and contain the high iron content of ∼74%. As a result, an excellent removal capacity of 1816 mg N/g Fe and a high nitrogen selectivity of 98% under a very low nitrate concentration of 100 mg/L are achieved when using the CL-Fe@C microspheres as electrocatalytic denitrification. The present work not only explores high performance electrocatalysis for the denitrification but also promote new inspiration for the preparation of other iron-based functional materials for diverse applications.

Abstract
Due to the abundant potassium resource on the Earth's crust, researchers now have become interested in exploring high-performance potassium-ion batteries (KIBs). However, the large size of K+ would hinder the diffusion of K ions into electrode materials, thus leading to poor energy/power density and cycling performance during the depotassiation/potassiation process. So, few-layered V5S8 nanosheets wrapping a hollow carbon sphere fabricated via a facile hollow carbon template induced method could reversibly accommodate K storage and maintain the structure stability. Hence, the as-obtained V5S8@C electrode enables rapid and reversible storage of K+ with a high specific capacity of 645 mAh/g at 50 mA/g, a high rate capability, and long cycling stability, with 360 and 190 mAh/g achieved after 500 and 1000 cycles at 500 and 2000 mA/g, respectively. The excellent electrochemical performance is superior to the most existing electrode materials. The DFT calculations reveal that V5S8 nanosheets have high electrical conductivity and low energy barriers for K+ intercalation. Furthermore, the reaction mechanism of the V5S8@C electrode in KIBs is probed via the in operando synchrotron X-ray diffraction technique, and it indicates that the V5S8@C electrode undergoes a sequential intercalation (KV5S8) and conversion reactions (K2S3) reversibly during the potassiation process.

Abstract
Objectives The primary objective was to evaluate whether a molecular point-of-care test (POCT) for viral and atypical pathogens added to routine real-time PCR could reduce duration of intravenous antibiotics in hospitalized patients with lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) compared with routine real-time PCR. Methods In this single-centre, open-label, randomized controlled study, we enrolled hospitalized adults diagnosed with LRTI. Patients were randomized to an intervention group (POCT FilmArray Panel for 20 viruses, atypical pathogens and bacteria plus routine real-time PCR) or a control group (routine real-time PCR for ten pathogens). The primary outcome was duration of intravenous antibiotics during hospitalization. The secondary outcomes included length of stay, cost of hospitalization and de-escalation within 72 hours and between 72 hours and 7 days. Intention-to-treat analysis was used. Results Between October 2017 and July 2018, we enrolled 800 eligible patients (398 in the intervention group and 402 in the control group). Duration of intravenous antibiotics in the intervention group was shorter than in the control (7.0 days (interquartile range (IQR) 5.0–9.0) versus 8.0 days (IQR 6.0–11.0); p <0.001). Length of hospital stay in the intervention group was significantly shorter (8.0 days (IQR 7.0–11.0) versus 9.0 days (IQR 7.0–12.0; p <0.001) and the cost of hospitalization in the intervention group was significantly lower ($1804.7 (IQR 1298.4–2633.8) versus $2042.5 (IQR 1427.4–2926.2); p 0.002) than control group. More patients in the intervention group achieved de-escalation within 72 hours (7.9%, 29/367 versus 3.2%, 12/377; p 0.005) and between 72 hours and 7 days (29.7%, 109/367 versus 22.0%, 83/377; p 0.024). Conclusions Use of molecular POCT testing for respiratory viruses and atypical pathogens might help to reduce intravenous antibiotic use in hospitalized LRTI patients. Abstract
Semiconducting metal oxides with abundant active sites are regarded as promising candidates for environmental monitoring and breath analysis because of their excellent gas sensing performance and stability. Herein, mesoporous WO3 nanofibers with a crystalline framework and uniform pore size is successfully synthesized in an aqueous phase using an electrospinning method, with ammonium metatungstate as the tungsten sources, and SiO2 nanoparticles and polyvinylpyrrolidone as the sacrificial templates. The obtained mesoporous WO3 nanofibers exhibit a controllable pore size of 26.3–42.2 nm, specific surface area of 24.1–34.4 m2g−1, and a pore volume of 0.15–0.24 cm3g−1. This unique hierarchical structure, with uniform mesopores and interconnected channels, could facilitate the diffusion and transportation of gas molecules in the framework. Gas sensors, based on mesoporous WO3 nanofibers, exhibit an excellent performance in acetone sensing with a low limit of detection (<1 ppm), short response-recovery time (24 s/27 s), a linear relationship in a broad range, and good selectivity.

Abstract
The performance of an interband cascade laser based laser heterodyne radiometer (LHR) is demonstrated in ground-based solar occultation mode. High-resolution (0.0033 cm-1) transmission spectra near 3.53 μm were obtained for simultaneous atmospheric observations of H2O and CH4. Combined with the preprocessed measurement data (acquired at Hefei, China, on June 21th 2016), an optimal estimation method based retrieval algorithm is developed for data retrieval and error analysis. By considering the corrected atmospheric parameters, vertical profiles of H2O and CH4 are retrieved. Finally, the measured total column abundance and XCH4 were calculated to be 1.87 ± 0.02 ppm and 1.88 ± 0.02 ppm, respectively. The interband cascade laser-based laser heterodyne radiometer that is demonstrated in this manuscript has high potential for use in the development of compact, robust, and unattended LHR for spacecraft, airborne or ground-based atmospheric sensing.

Abstract
Plant-derived flavonoids contain large amount of compounds with pharmacological effects. In this study, we showed the compound Kaempferol to have robust antiviral activity against bovine herpesvirus 1 (BoHV-1) replication in vitro. Kaempferol at a concentration of 100 μmol/l completely inhibited viral replication in MDBK cells. It mainly affects the viral replication at the post-entry stages. The inhibition of Akt signaling is a potential mechanism underlying the antiviral effect of Kaempferol. In addition, at a concentration of 25 and 50 μmol/l Kaempferol could significantly reduce the expression of inflammatory mediators such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-8 (IL-8) and macrophage inflammatory protein 1 alpha (MIP-1α) in human promonocytic U937 cells-derived macrophages (dU937) in response to lipopolysaccharides (LPS) stimulation. Overall, our results indicated that Kaempferol provides a potent protection against BoHV-1 infection and LPS-induced inflammatory response.

Abstract
Silicon nanoparticles (SiNPs) are the promising materials in the various applications due to their unique properties like large surface area, biocompatibility, stability, excellent optical and electrical properties. Surface, optical and electrical properties are highly dependent on particle size, doping of different materials and so on. Porous structures in silicon nanomaterials not only improve the specific surface area, adsorption, and photoluminescence efficiency but also provide numbers of voids as well as the high surface to volume ratio and enhance the adsorption ability. In this review, we focus on the significance of porous silicon/mesoporous silicon nanoparticles (pSiNPs/mSiNPs) in the applications of energy storage, sensors and bioscience. Silicon as anode material in the lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) faces a huge change in volume during charging/discharging which leads to cracking, electrical contact loss and unstable solid electrolyte interphase. To overcome challenges of Si anode in the LIBs, mSiNPs are the promising candidates with different structures and coating of different materials to enhance electrochemical properties. On the basis of optical properties with tunable wavelength, pSiNPs are catching good results in biosensors and gas sensors. The mSiNPs with different structures and modified surfaces are playing an important role in the detection of biomarkers, drug delivery and diagnosis of cancer and tumors.

Abstract
Bovine herpesvirus 1 (BoHV-1) infection causes substantial economic losses to the cattle industry worldwide. So far, the isolation of BoHV-1 field virus has not been reported in China. Here, for the first time we report that two isolates of BoHV-1 designated as NJ16-1 and NJ16-2 were obtained from semen samples from breeding bulls in China. Typical cytopathic effect in MDBK cells, detection of viral protein VP16 in western blot analysis, PCR detection of BoHV-1 gB gene proved BoHV-1 infection and subsequent nucleotide sequence analysis showed a 99% identity with BoHV-1 Cooper strain. These results suggest that these isolated viruses are BoHV-1.
