Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the clinicopathologic features and potential prognostic predictors of locally recurrent renal cell carcinoma patients after initial surgery. METHODS Authors retrospectively analyzed data extracted from 81 patients who were treated for postoperative locally recurrence of renal cell carcinoma from January 2006 to June 2016 in the Department of Urology, Peking University First Hospital. Postoperative locally recurrence of renal cell carcinoma was defined as disease recurring in the remnant kidney, renal fossa, adjacent abdomen, ipsilateral adrenal and retroperitoneal lymph nodes. RESULTS In the study, 81 patients were finally included, of whom 43 were initially treated in our hospital and 38 were initially treat in other centers. Partial nephrectomy (PN) was performed for 38 cases (26 in our hospital and 12 in other hospitals) as initial treatment and radical nephrectomy (RN) was conducted for the remnant 43 cases (17 in our hospital and 26 in other hospitals). Overall median recurrence time was 26 months (range: 3-164 months), in which 26 months (range: 3-55 months) for PN cases and 30 months (range: 4-164 months) for RN cases (P=0.009). Sixty-nine patients had single site recurrence, including remnant kidney (n=29), renal fossa (n=20), abdomen (n=4), ipsilateral lymph nodes (n=5), ipsilateral adrenal (n=11), while 12 patients had multiple sites recurrence. Seventy-eight patients were managed by complete surgical resection, while three patients were managed by radiofrequency ablation. Postoperative pathological diagnoses included clear cell carcinoma (n=72), papillary renal cell carcinoma (n=8, 7 cases with type 1, 1 case with type 2) and Xp11 translocation/TFE3 gene fusion renal cell carcinoma (n=1). Complete pathologic information of the initial surgery could be extracted from 43 patients who were initially treated in our hospital. Seventeen patients with initial radical nephrectomy were staged as T1a (n=4), T1b (n=2), T2a (n=1), T3a (n=8), and T3b (n=2). Twenty-six patients with initial partial nephrectomy were staged as T1a (n=18), T1b (n=7), and T3a (n=1). For PN cohort, the patients with T1a stage disease had longer median recurrence time than those with beyond T1a stage disease, and the difference was significant (29 months vs. 18 months, P=0.041). At the end of the follow-up, 58 patients were alive, 4 died and 19 lost the follow-up. Overall, 3-year and 5-year disease free survival rates were 81.9%, and 53.6%, respectively. CONCLUSION The present research reported a large-scale single central experience of locally recurrent renal cell carcinoma. The recurrence time of the PN group is shorter than that of the RN group. For patients after PN surgery, median recurrence time is longer for patients with T1a stage tumor when compared with those with stage beyond T1a. Patients can obtain relative long-term survival after complete secondary surgery resection.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the perioperative and oncologic outcomes of female patients receiving laparoscopic radical cystectomy (LRC) and open radical cystectomy (ORC). METHODS Retrospective review of 91 consecutive female patients with urothelial carcinoma of bladder undergoing radical cystectomy at a single academic institution from 2006 to 2017. Those female patients received open radical cystectomy were matched to the patients who underwent laparoscopic radical cystectomy by using propensity score matching in 1 ∶1 ratio. The matching factors included age, body mass index (BMI), American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) score, pathologic stage and pathologic nodal stage. The perioperation and oncology characteristics were compared, and Kaplan-Meier method was used to analyze the overall survival (OS), cancer specific survival (CSS) and progression-free survival (PFS) estimates. Finally, we did a sensitive analysis by using multivariable COX regression of all the patients, adjusting for the matching factors. RESULTS There were 65 ORC and 26 LRC patients identified in this cohort with urothelial carcinoma of bladder, the median follow-up time was 38 months (interquartile range 18-69). The age (P<0.001) and ASA scores (P=0.018) were less for LRC before being matched. There were 22 LRC and 22 ORC patients matching successfully. Before being matched, the estimate blood loss (P=0.005), transfusion rate (P<0.001) and total complications rate (P=0.015) were less for LRC, and the lymph nodes yield was greater for LRC, but there were no differences in OS (P=0.698), CSS (P=0.942) and PFS (P=0.837) between the two groups. After being matched, the estimate blood loss (P=0.009), transfusion rate (P=0.001) and total complications rate (P=0.040) were less for LRC, but there was no difference in the lymph nodes yield. Besides, there were no statistic differences in OS (P=0.432), CSS (P=0.429) and PFS (P=0.284) between the two groups. In addition, in multivariable COX regression analysis, surgical approaches (LRC/ORC) were not found to be a predictor of OS (HR 1.134, 95%CI 0.335-3.835, P=0.839), CSS (HR 1.051, 95%CI 0.234-4.719, P=0.949) and PFS (HR 0.538, 95%CI 0.138-2.095, P=0.371) of the female patients with urothelial carcinoma of bladder. CONCLUSION It is advantageous for laparoscopic radical cystectomy in terms of estimating blood loss, transfusion rate and complication rate. But there was no evidence that laparoscopic radical cystectomy for female patients with bladder cancer had a better oncologic prognosis than open radical cystectomy from this study.

Abstract
Ureteral injury can be classified as iatrogenic or traumatic, which represents a rare but challenging field of reconstructive urology. Due to their close proximity to vital abdominal and pelvic organs, the ureters are highly susceptible to iatrogenic injury, while ureteral injury caused by external trauma is relatively rare. The signs of ureteric injury are difficult to identify initially and often present after a delay. The treatment of ureteral injury, which is depended on the type, location, and degree of injury, the time of diagnosis and the patient's overall clinical condition, ranges from simple endoscopic management to complex surgical reconstruction. And long defect of the ureter presents much greater challenges to urologists. Ureterotomy under endoscopy using laser or cold-knife is available for the treatment of 2-3 cm benign ureteral injuries or strictures. Pyeloplasty is an effective treatment for ureteropelvic junction obstruction and some improved methods showed the possibility of repairing long-segment (10-15 cm) stenosis. Proximal and mid-ureteral injuries or strictures of 2-3 cm long can often be managed by primary ureteroureterostomy. When not feasible due to ureteral defects of longer segment, mobilization of the kidney should be considered, and transureteroureterostomy is alternative if the proximal ureter is of sufficient length. And autotransplantation or nephrectomy is regarded as the last resorts. Most of the injuries or strictures are observed in the distal ureter, below the pelvic brim, and are usually treated with ureteroneocystostomy. A non-refluxing technique together with a ureteral nipple or submucosal tunnel method, is preferable as it minimizes vesico-ureteral reflux and the risk of infection. In order to cover a longer distance, ureteroneocystostomy in combination with a psoas hitch (covering 6-10 cm of defect) or a Boari flap (covering 12-15 cm) is often adopted. Among various ureteral replacement procedures, only intestinal ureteral substitution, which includes ileal ureter, appendiceal interposition and reconfigured colon substitution, has gained wide acceptance when urothelial tissue is insufficient. Ileal ureter can be used to replace the ureter of >15 cm defect and even to replace the entire unbilateral ureter or bilateral ureter. Laparoscopic and robotic-assisted techniques are increasingly being employed for ureteral reconstruction and adopted with encouraging results.

Abstract
Background There is no criterion for determining whether female patients operated with cystectomy would benefit from hysterectomy. This study compares the oncological outcomes between female patients receiving uterus preserving cystectomy (UPC) and uterus excision cystectomy (UEC). Methods Retrospective review of 121 female patients with urothelial carcinoma of bladder undergoing UPC (n = 63) or UEC (n = 49) at a single institute between January 2006 and April 2017. Individual postoperative follow-up plans were performed for patients through outpatient visits. Overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) estimates were analyzed using Kaplan-Meier method and multivariable Cox regression. Results The median follow-up time was 36 months (interquartile range 16–69). Among patients, 5 (4.1%) had uterus invasion. OS probability (p = 0.939) and PFS probability (p = 0.565) were similar in two groups. In multivariable Cox regression analysis, hysterectomy was not found to be a predictor of OS (hazard ratio 0.908, 95%CI 0.428–1.924, p = 0.801) and PFS (hazard ratio 1.109, 95%CI 0.439–2.805, p = 0.826) after adjusting for age, preoperative clinical stage, pathological stage, pathological nodal stage, neoadjuvant/adjuvant chemotherapy, location of the tumor, and surgical margin. No significant difference of overall survival probability was observed in the patients with organ-confined bladder cancer (p = 0.675) and in patients with no organ-confined bladder cancer (p = 0.695). Conclusions The results showed that the rate of uterus invasion was low in patients analyzed in this cohort. It was also found that hysterectomy was not an independent predictor of OS and PFS after radical cystectomy in patients with bladder cancer. Abstract
RATIONALE Pancreatic carcinosarcoma (PCS) is a very rare pancreatic cancer with an extremely poor prognosis. Interestingly, PCS can coexist with other metachronous malignant cancers. Here we report a case of PCS combined with esophageal cancer (EC). PATIENT CONCERNS The patient was a 66-year-old man who presented with abdominal pain and progressive nausea. He had undergone esophagectomy for EC 5 years previously. DIAGNOSIS Both EC and PCS were confirmed via postoperative pathological diagnosis. INTERVENTIONS Owing to the patient's previous esophagectomy for EC, pancreaticoduodenectomy for the PCS could not be performed. Instead, he underwent cholecystectomy with bile duct-jejunum Roux-en-Y anastomosis and radioactive seed implantation. OUTCOMES The patient is still alive for >1 year. LESSONS To our knowledge, this is the first report of PCS combined with EC and thus of metachronous multiple primary carcinoma. A detailed literature review of the clinical and histologic features of PCS reveals important information about the epidemiology and biology of this rare disease.

Abstract
Antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) have gained global attention due to their public health threat. Extracelluar ARGs (eARGs) can result in the dissemination of antibiotic resistance via free-living ARGs in natural environments, where they promote ARB transmission in drinking water distribution systems. However, eARG pollution in tap water has not been well researched. In this study, concentrations of eARGs and intracellular ARGs (iARGs) in tap water, sampled at Tianjin, China, were investigated for one year. Fourteen eARG types were found at the highest concentration of 1.3 × 105 gene copies (GC)/L. TetC was detected in 66.7% of samples, followed by sul1, sul2, and qnrA with the same detection frequency of 41.7%. Fifteen iARGs (including tetA, tetB, tetM, tetQ, tetX, sul1, sul2, sul3, ermB, blaTEM, and qnrA) were continuously detected in all collected tap water samples with sul1 and sul2 the most abundant. Additionally, both eARG and iARG concentrations in tap water presented a seasonal pattern with most abundant prevalence in summer. The concentration of observed intracellular sulfonamide resistance genes showed a significantly positive correlation with total nitrogen concentrations. This study suggested that eARG and iARG pollution of drinking water systems pose a potential risk to human public health.

Abstract
To assess changes in the lithium supply chain resulting from the development of the electric vehicle industry and corresponding impacts, this study established a regional dynamic flow model of the entire anthropogenic life cycle of lithium in China from 2000 to 2050. Based on historical data, this model provides output data including production, consumption and international trade of lithium embodied in five types of commodities. Results indicate that the amount of lithium flow in 2050 will be 13-20 times greater than that in 2015. The lithium applied in electric vehicles will account for the largest proportion of in-use stocks of lithium starting in 2022. Lithium recovery will not play a big role in reducing supply pressure until 2030. Comparing all types of lithium-containing commodities, import dependence on minerals will remain the greatest within the temporal boundary. This factor reflects a nonnegligible risk to the supply demand balance considering the high concentration of mineral import structure in China currently. Several policy recommendations are offered for the optimization of China's flow structure. On the demand side, limited capacity expansion and cutting overcapacity of downstream commodities should be under consideration to distribute lithium import more reasonably. On the supply side, the potential oversupply issues caused by low-grade scrap require further development of recycling technology.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To present our technique of laparoscopic pyeloplasty (LP) with concomitant pyelolithotomy in ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) complicated by renal calculi and compare outcome with a group of UPJO patients undergoing modified LP without coexistent calculi. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the charts of 51 UPJO patients undergoing modified LP from January 2013 to November 2016 at our institution. Sixteen patients were diagnosed as UPJO with coexistent ipsilateral renal calculi and underwent pyelolithotomy using our modified technique at the time of modified LP. The outcome data of this group were compared with those of 16 matched patients undergoing modified LP without calculi. RESULTS No conversion to open surgery occurred. The mean operative time for modified LP and pyelolithotomy was 151.6 min, while the mean operative time for modified LP was 137.6 min (p = 0.21). Additionally, no differences in estimated blood loss (p = 0.96) or postoperative complications (p = 1.00) were observed between the 2 groups. The stone-free rate was 100%. During a mean follow-up of 27.1 months, there were no recurrent calculi or secondary UPJO. CONCLUSIONS The combination of our novel flexible guiding tube and modified suture technique provides a practical and economic approach with satisfying outcome in the treating of UPJO with concomitant renal calculi.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To illustrate our technique to construct the Institute of Urology Peking University (IUPU) orthotopic ileal bladder and present our initial experience. METHODS From August 2017 to April 2018, 12 patients with bladder cancer underwent radical cystectomy (RC), pelvic lymph node dissection and extracorporeal construction of an IUPU neobladder (IUPUB) by an experienced surgeon. We present the demographic, clinicopathologic, perioperative, and follow-up data. We also describe our step-by-step surgical technique for the IUPUB in this article. RESULTS Laparoscopic RC with an extracorporeal IUPUB was successfully accomplished in 11 patients, and 1 patient was converted to open RC with an IUPUB. The median total operative time and median time spent suturing the pouch were 248 minutes and 23 minutes, respectively. The median estimated blood loss was 150 mL. The median time to recovery of bowel function (tolerance of a liquid diet) was 3½ days. The urinary catheter was removed on post-operative day 21 in 10 patients. The ureteral stents and stoma catheter were removed on day 7 after cystography. At a median followup of 7½ months, 2 patients had early complications (<30 days), and no major complications (grade ≥ 3) occurred. The follow-up outcomes were satisfactory. The limitations included the small sample size and short-term outcomes. CONCLUSION Our technique of constructing the IUPUB is feasible and safe. The operative time and early complication rates are acceptable.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION We aimed to compare oncological outcomes by surgery type (segmental ureterectomy [SU] vs. radical nephroureterectomy [RNU]) in a large cohort of patients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) of the distal ureter. METHODS We performed a retrospective analysis of 219 patients with UTUC of the distal ureter among 931 patients with UTUC who underwent SU and RNU. Clinicopathological outcomes were evaluated. Cancer-specific survival (CSS), overall survival (OS), local recurrence-free survival (RFS), intravesical recurrence-free survival (IVRFS), contralateral recurrence-free survival, and distal metastasis-free survival were assessed by the Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression, estimating hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS A total of 179 (81.7%) patients underwent RNU and 40 (18.3%) underwent SU: 85 males (47.5%) with RNU and 17 (42.5%) with SU (p=0.568). The median age with RNU and SU was 71 years (range 31-86) and 70 years (range 46-90), respectively (p=0.499). The T stage of the two groups did not differ (p=0.122), nor did mean tumour length (3.35±2.62 vs. 3.25±2.14; p=0.953), grade (p=0.075), tumour necrosis (p=0.634), or followup time (months) (58.1±8.1 vs. 63.7±3.4; p=0.462). The two groups did not differ in CSS (p=0.358) or OS (p=0.206), and surgery type did not predict CSS (HR 0.862; 95% CI 0.469-1.585; p=0.633) or OS (HR 0.764; 95% CI 0.419-1.392; p=0.379). Local RFS was higher with RNU than SU (96.2% vs. 86.0%; p=0.02), but the groups did not differ in IVRFS (p=0.661), contralateral RFS (p=0.183), or distant metastasis-free survival (p=0.078). On multivariate analysis, SU was associated with local RFS (HR 5.069; 95% CI 1.029-24.968; p=0.046) and distant metastasis-free survival (HR 6.497; 95% CI 1.196-35.283; p=0.03). Local RFS was lower with SU than RNU for patients with pT3-4 stage (p=0.006). CONCLUSIONS Long-term oncological outcomes were equivalent with SU and RNU in patients with UTUC of the distal ureter. SU affected local recurrence survival, especially with advanced tumour stage, and distant metastasis survival.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To present our modified laparoscopic partial ureterectomy technique for adult ureteral fibroepithelial polyp (FEP) and initial experience. METHODS Between August 2009 and October 2017, 22 patients with ureteral FEP underwent modified laparoscopic partial ureterectomy by an experienced surgeon. In our method, a stay suture passing through the upper ureter was fixed to the abdominal wall to keep the ureter from twisting. The ureter was not completely dismembered until the first stitch, which was placed between the lowest points of the upper ureter and lower ureter end faces, was finished. Besides, we used a 3-step method to locate the polyp. Surgical success was defined as improved hydronephrosis and alleviated symptoms. RESULTS The mean operative time was 152.18 min. The mean estimated blood loss was 22.73 mL. One patient complained of urinary tract infection postoperatively. The mean times to remove the drainage tube and catheter were 2.64 and 3.73 days respectively. The double-J tube was removed at 1-3 months after surgery. At a mean follow-up of 47.04 months, no patient experienced disease recurrence, and the operative success rate was 100%. CONCLUSIONS Modified laparoscopic partial ureterectomy, with a high success rate, could be considered a safe and efficient treatment option for ureteral FEP.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the outcomes of modified laparoscopic pyeloplasty (LP) and robot-assisted pyeloplasty (RLP) for ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) in China patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients who underwent modified LP and RLP using a transperitoneal laparoscopic approach at 2 different medical institutions between October 2009 and November 2017. RESULTS Seventy-six patients underwent modified LP and 140 patients underwent RLP. No open conversion occurred. The mean operative time of RLP was shorter than that of modified LP (p = 0.042). For UPJO concomitant with renal calculi, there was no difference in operative time between 2 groups (p = 0.656). With RLP, the operative time for UPJO concomitant with horseshoe was shorter (p = 0.011). In terms of complication rate, there was no significant difference between 2 groups (p = 0.596). The postoperative hospital stay for modified LP was shorter than that for RLP (p < 0.05). The mean follow-up time for modified LP and RLP was 31.79 months and 10.85 months respectively (p < 0.05). The success rate was 96.05 and 97.86% for modified LP and RLP, respectively (p = 0.736). CONCLUSIONS Modified LP and RLP are safe and efficient treatment for UPJO with similar success rates.

Vitamin C increases 5-hydroxymethylcytosine level and inhibits the growth of bladder cancer. Clin Epigenetics 2018; 10:94. Abstract
Background 5-Hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) is converted from 5-methylcytosine (5mC) by a group of enzymes termed ten-eleven translocation (TET) family dioxygenases. The loss of 5hmC has been identified as a hallmark of most types of cancer and is related to tumorigenesis and progression. However, the role of 5hmC in bladder cancer is seldom investigated. Vitamin C was recently reported to induce the generation of 5hmC by acting as a cofactor for TET dioxygenases. In this study, we explored the role of 5hmC in bladder cancer and the therapeutic efficacy of vitamin C in increasing the 5hmC pattern. Results 5hmC was decreased in bladder cancer samples and was related to patient overall survival. Genome-wide mapping of 5hmC in tumor tissues and vitamin C-treated bladder cancer cells revealed that 5hmC loss was enriched in cancer-related genes and that vitamin C treatment increased 5hmC levels correspondingly. Vitamin C treatment shifted the transcriptome and inhibited the malignant phenotypes associated with bladder cancer cells in both in vitro cell lines and in vivo xenografts. Conclusions This study provided mechanistic insights regarding the 5hmC loss in bladder cancer and a rationale for exploring the therapeutic use of vitamin C as a potential epigenetic treatment for bladder cancer. Abstract
Economic impact assessments of air pollution-related health effects from a sectoral perspective in China is still deficient. This study evaluates the PM2.5 pollution-related health impacts of the road transport sector on China's economy at both national and provincial levels in 2030 under various air mitigation technologies scenarios. Health impacts are estimated using an integrated approach that combines the Greenhouse Gas and Air Pollution Interactions and Synergies (GAINS) model, a computable general equilibrium (CGE) model and a health model. Results show that at a national level, the road transport sector leads to 163.64 thousand deaths per year, increases the per capita risk of morbidity by 0.37% and accounts for 1.43 billion Yuan in health care expenditures. We estimate 442.90 billion Yuan of the value of statistical life loss and 2.09 h/capita of work time loss in 2015. Without additional control measures, air pollution related to the transport sector will cause 177.50 thousand deaths in 2030, a 0.40% per capita increase in the risk of morbidity, accounting for 4.12 billion Yuan in health care expenditures, 737.15 billion Yuan of statistical life loss and 2.23 h/capita of work time loss. Based on our model, implementing the most strict control strategy scenario would decrease mortality by 42.14%, morbidity risk by 42.14%, health care expenditures by 41.94%, statistical life loss by 26.22% and hours of work time loss by 42.65%, comparing with the no control measure scenario. In addition, PM2.5 pollution from the road transport sector will cause 0.68% GDP loss in 2030. At a provincial level, GDP losses in 14 out of 30 provinces far exceed the national rate. Henan (1.20%), Sichuan (1.07%), Chongqing (0.99%), Hubei (0.94%), and Shandong (0.90%) would experience the highest GDP loss in 2030. Implementing control strategies to reduce PM2.5 pollution in the road transport sector could bring positive benefits in half of the Chinese provinces especially in provinces that suffer greater health impacts from the road transport sector (such as Henan and Sichuan).

Abstract
Purpose To investigate the incidence and pathologic characteristics of prostate cancer (PCa) incidentally discovered at the time of radical cystectomy and its impact on overall survival. Materials and Methods A single center retrospective study of 762 male patients who underwent radical cystoprostatectomy from Jan 1994 to Dec 2012. Results Of all included patients, 132 (17.3%) were found to have PCa. Patients with incidental PCa had a significantly higher mean age (69.2 vs. 62.2 years, P=0.015). Among the 132 patients with PCa, prostate specific antigen (PSA) analysis was available in 76 patients (57.6%), with a median value of 1.06ng/mL, and 61 (80.3%) patients had a PSA value below 4ng/mL. Four hundred and thirty-six patients (57.1%) were successfully followed, with a median duration of 46.5 months. The overall 5-year survival rate was 62.1%, and the 5-year cancer–specific survival rate was 72%. PCa recurrence was defined by two consecutive PSA values of >0.2 ng/mL and rising, and no PCa recurrence occurred. According to a univariate analyses, incidental PCa was not associated with cancer-specific survival (P=0.192) or overall survival (P=0.493). According to univariate analyses, the overall survival of patients with PCa was not associated with prostate cancer staging, PSA value, or Gleason score (All P values>0.05). Conclusions Prostate cancer incidentally discovered at the time of radical cystectomy does not decrease overall survival. Patients with incidental PCa were older than those without. The PSA value before operation is not helpful for predicting incidental prostate cancers.

Abstract
Detecting how genes regulate biological shape has become a multidisciplinary research interest because of its wide application in many disciplines. Despite its fundamental importance, the challenges of accurately extracting information from an image, statistically modeling the high-dimensional shape and meticulously locating shape quantitative trait loci (QTL) affect the progress of this research. In this article, we propose a novel integrated framework that incorporates shape analysis, statistical curve modeling and genetic mapping to detect significant QTLs regulating variation of biological shape traits. After quantifying morphological shape via a radius centroid contour approach, each shape, as a phenotype, was characterized as a high-dimensional curve, varying as angle θ runs clockwise with the first point starting from angle zero. We then modeled the dynamic trajectories of three mean curves and variation patterns as functions of θ. Our framework led to the detection of a few significant QTLs regulating the variation of leaf shape collected from a natural population of poplar, Populus szechuanica var tibetica. This population, distributed at altitudes 2000-4500 m above sea level, is an evolutionarily important plant species. This is the first work in the quantitative genetic shape mapping area that emphasizes a sense of 'function' instead of decomposing the shape into a few discrete principal components, as the majority of shape studies do.

Abstract
A series of conjugated enamines were prepared by Ti catalyzed anti-Markovnikov hydroamination. The synthetic route is efficient with yields of up to 94 % and the 100 % atom efficiency of the reaction means that these products are easily isolated and purified. Due to the extended conjugated system, the enamine tautomers were observed exclusively in both solid and solution phases, as determined by X-ray crystallography and NMR spectroscopy. These new conjugated molecules, with N incorporated into the backbone, show interesting photophysical properties including photo-luminescent quantum yields of up to 0.26. Notably, through the incorporation of B to give a donor-acceptor π-conjugated system, a redshift of approximately 100 nm is observed for the emission maximum along with the anticipated solvatochromic shifts.

Abstract
Lithium has been widely recognized as an essential metal for next-generation clean technologies. With the aim of identifying opportunities for improving lithium resource efficiency and security, this study establishes a long-term trade-linked material flow analysis framework to analyze lithium flow throughout the technological life cycle and across national boundaries during the 1994-2015 period. The results indicate that with broader purposes identified, global lithium production and consumption experienced rapid growth over the past decades. A widely distributed, actively functioning lithium trade network has been established, with the United States, China, the European Union, Chile, and Australia playing essential roles. Global lithium in-use stock, which is mainly embodied in ceramics and glass, reached 29 kilotons in 2015. The lithium stock contained in battery-related applications, together with the huge potential production of stock in future decades, represents a major opportunity for secondary lithium recovery. In the context of intensive international trade, international cooperation on lithium waste management is extremely important. It is also suggested that there is a high risk of lithium shortage for countries with strong dependence on lithium import. The establishment of domestic lithium reserves may be an option for these countries.

Abstract
Here, we assessed the diagnostic accuracy of fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for detecting aggressive upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). A total of 210 UTUC patients from a single hospital in China were enrolled in this retrospective study between 2012 and 2016. Patients were classified as FISH-positive or -negative based on FISH analysis of voided urine, and the clinicpathological characteristics of these two patient groups were compared. Patients with positive FISH results had more advanced tumor stages and higher tumor grades than those with negative results. The overall sensitivity of FISH for detecting advanced UTUC was 62.4% (131/210). The sensitivity and positive predictive values of positive FISH results were 76.5% and 59.5% for high-grade UTUC and 71.7% and 58.0% for muscle-invasive UTUC. These data suggest that voided urine FISH results accurately predict advanced UTUC and might help distinguish patients with aggressive disease from those who might benefit from conservative management.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a malignancy caused by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). NPC is radiosensitive and has a high frequency of treatment failure due to metastasis, which results in recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (rNPC). PATIENTS AND METHODS In the present study, nasopharyngeal carcinoma biopsies were obtained from NPC and rNPC patients, as well as healthy controls, and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), immunohistochemistry, and immunoblotting analyses were performed. RESULTS The RTPCR data showed expression of CDX2 and NOX4 in rNPC biopsy samples but not in control or NPC samples. Immunohistochemical and immunoblotting analyses confirmed the expression of CDX2 and NOX4 in rNPC samples, but not in NPC biopsy samples. CONCLUSIONS The finding concludes that an association of CDX2 and NOX4 expression with rNPC was noted; thus, these proteins may have value as prognostic indicators and may facilitate the development of novel therapeutics for rNPC patients.

Abstract
The outcome of bladder cancer after radical cystectomy is heterogeneous. We aim to evaluate the prognostic value of HALP (hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte and platelet) and explore novel prognostic indexes for patients with bladder cancer after radical cystectomy. In this retrospective study, 516 patients with bladder cancer after radical cystectomy were included. The median follow-up was 37 months (2 to 99 mo). Risk factors of decreased overall survival were older age, high TNM stage, high American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) grade and low HALP score. The predictive accuracy was better with HALP-based nomogram than TNM stage (C- index 0.76 ± 0.039 vs. 0.708 ± 0.041). By combining ASA grade and HALP, we created a novel index—HALPA score and found it an independent risk factor for decreased survival (HALPA score = 1, HR 1.624, 95% CI 1.139–2.314, P = 0.007; HALPA score = 2, HR 3.471, 95% CI: 1.861–6.472, P < 0.001).The present study identified the prognostic value of HALP and provided a novel index HALPA score for bladder cancer after radical cystectomy.

Abstract
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) pollutions often occur in marine and other saline environment, largely due to anthropogenic activities. However, study of the PAHs-degradation genotypes in halophiles is limited, compared with the mesophilic terrestrial PAHs degraders. In this study, a bacterial consortium (CY-1) was enriched from saline soil contaminated with crude oil using phenanthrene as the sole carbon source at 10% salinity. CY-1 was dominated by the moderate halophilic Marinobacter species, and its dominant PAHs ring-hydroxylating dioxygenase (RHD) genotypes shared high identity to the classic nah-related RHDs found in the mesophilic species. Further cloning of a 5.6-kb gene cluster from CY-1 unveiled the existence of a new type of PAHs degradation gene cluster (hpah), which most probably evolves from the nah-related gene clusters. Expression of the RHD in this gene cluster in E. coli lead to the discovery of its prominent salt-tolerant properties compared with two RHDs from mesophiles. As a common structural feature shared by all halophilic and halotolerant enzymes, higher abundance of acidic amino acids was also found on the surface of this RHD than its closest nah-related alleles. These results suggest evolution towards saline adaptation occurred after horizontal transfer of this hpah gene cluster into the halophiles.

Abstract
The anti-inflammatory genes, haem oxygenase 1 (HO-1, HMOX1) rs2071746 (unrestricted model: p = 9.07 × 10-4; recessive model: p = 4.99 × 10-4; multiplicative model: p = 0.0009; and additive model: p = 1.87 × 10-4) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) rs1800872 (dominant model: p = 0.0277) have been associated with paediatric inflammatory bowel disease. The present family-based case-trio study (n = 52) examined HO-1 gene expression in the presence of proinflammatory lipopolysaccharide and tumour necrosis factor-alpha in four B lymphocyte cell lines established from children with inflammatory bowel disease and demonstrated that mutations in IL-10 and IL-10 receptor B reduced HO-1 messenger RNA expression. This observation supports our hypothesis that HO-1 is regulated by the IL-10/STAT3 pathway and that both genes (IL10 and STAT3) could be involved in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease. We also compared HO-1 expression in diseased intestinal tissues with adjacent normal tissues from adults with inflammatory bowel disease. Of the 17 Crohn's disease patients, HO-1 expression in diseased tissues was downregulated in 9 patients (53%) and of the 10 ulcerative colitis patients HO-1 was downregulated in 7 patients (70%), compared with adjacent normal tissues. The downregulation of HO-1 gene expression may lower anti-inflammatory effects and worsen tissue injury in affected areas by inflammatory bowel disease.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the urinary metabolic spectrum and pathways in very low birth weight (VLBW) premature infants. Method: A prospective case-control study was conducted to collect and compare the data of VLBW premature infants and full term infants from the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yet-Sen University in 2014. Within 24 hours after birth, urine specimens in each group were collected. Metabolites of urine samples including amino acid, fatty acid and organic acid were detected using the urease pre-processing and gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technology. Using the orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA), the biomarkers and differences between the two groups were found. The online metabolic pathway website was explored and multivariable analysis was conducted to investigate the valuable pathways and biomarkers related to the prematurity. Result: A total of 20 VLBW premature infants were enrolled, among whom 11 were male, 9 were female; and 20 full term infants were enrolled, among whom 9 were male, 11 were female. The urinary metabolites were established and compared between the VLBW premature and term infants. The investigation showed that the following nine pathways were enriched: amino-acyl-tRNA biosynthesis(P=0.000), lysine degradation(P=0.007), fatty acid biosynthesis(P=0.008), pyrimidine metabolism(P=0.014), pantothenate and CoA biosynthesis(P=0.022), valine, leucine and isoleucine biosynthesis(P=0.022), lysine biosynthesis(P=0.031), glycerolipid metabolism(P=0.046), and valine, leucine and isoleucine degradation(P=0.031). Almost all the metabolites decreased except for the glyceric acid exhibiting a higher content in the VLBW premature infant. 12 potential biomarkers were explored with the most significant covariance and correlation, within which stearic acid, palmiticacid, myristic acid, β-amino-isobutyric acid, and uric acid were lower, while myo-inositol, mannitol, glycine, glucose1, glucose2, glyceric acid and N-acetyl-tyrosine were higher in the VLBW premature group compared with the control group. Conclusion: There is a significant difference between the VLBW premature infants and full-term infants in the metabolic state and pathways. The urease pre-processing and GC-MS technology followed by the OPLS-DA and multivariable analysis to investigate VLBW premature infants' urinary metabolites is a valuable method to evaluate the patients' metabolism.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To explore the prognostic significance of preoperative prognostic nutritional index (PNI) in bladder cancer after radical cystectomy and compare the prognostic ability of inflammation-based indices. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed data for 516 patients with bladder cancer who underwent radical cystectomy in our institution between 2006 to 2012. Clinicopathologic characteristics and inflammation-based indices (PNI, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio [NLR], platelet/lymphocyte ratio [PLR], lymphocyte/monocyte ratio [LMR]) were evaluated by pre-treatment measurements. Overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were estimated by the Kaplan-Meier method and compared by log-rank test. Multivariate analysis with a Cox proportional hazards model was used to confirm predictors identified on univariate analysis. The association between clinicopathological characteristics and PNI or NLR was tested. RESULTS Among the 516 patients, the median follow-up was 37 months (interquartile range 20 to 56). On multivariate analysis, PNI and NLR independently predicted OS (PNI: hazard ratio [HR] = 1.668, 95% CI: 1.147-2.425, P = 0.007; NLR: HR = 1.416, 95% CI:1.094-2.016, P = 0.0149) and PFS (PNI: HR = 1.680, 95% CI:1.092-2.005, P = 0.015; NLR: HR = 1.550, 95% CI:1.140-2.388, P = 0.008). Low PNI predicted worse OS for all pathological stages and PFS for T1 and T2 stages. Low PNI was associated with older age (>65 years), muscle-invasive bladder cancer, high American Society of Anesthesiologists grade and anemia. CONCLUSION PNI and NLR were independent predictors of OS and PFS for patients with bladder cancer after radical cystectomy and PNI might be a novel reliable biomarker for bladder cancer.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to establish an integrated pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) modeling approach of acetylkitasamycin for designing dosage regimens and decreasing the emergence of drug-resistant bacteria. After oral administration of acetylkitasamycin to healthy and infected pigs at the dose of 50 mg/kg body weights (bw), a rapid and sensitive LC-MS/MS method was developed and validated for determining the concentration change of the major components of acetylkitasamycin and its possible metabolite kitasamycin in the intestinal samples taken from the T-shape ileal cannula. The PK parameters, including the integrated peak concentration (Cmax ), the time when the maximum concentration reached (Tmax ) and the area under the concentration-time curve (AUC), were calculated by WinNonlin software. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 60 C. perfringens strains was determined following CLSI guideline. The in vitro and ex vivo activities of acetylkitasamycin in intestinal tract against a pathogenic strain of C. perfringens type A (CPFK122995) were established by the killing curve. Our PK data showed that the integrated Cmax , Tmax , and AUC were 14.57-15.81 μg/ml, 0.78-2.52 hR, and 123.84-152.32 μg hr/ml, respectively. The PD data show that MIC50 and MIC90 of the 60 C. perfringens isolates were 3.85 and 26.45 μg/ml, respectively. The ex vivo growth inhibition data were fitted to the inhibitory sigmoid Emax equation to provide the values of AUC/MIC to produce bacteriostasis (4.84 hr), bactericidal activity (15.46 hr), and bacterial eradication (24.99 hr). A dosage regimen of 18.63 mg/kg bw every 12 hr could be sufficient in the prevention of C. perfringens infection. The therapeutic dosage regimen for C. perfringens infection was at the dose of 51.36 mg/kg bw every 12 hr for 3 days. In summary, the dosage regimen for the treatment of C. perfringens in pigs administered with acetylkitasamycin was designed using PK/PD integrate model. The designed dose regimen could to some extent decrease the risk for emergence of macrolide resistance.

Abstract
The integration of somatosensory information is generally assumed to be a function of the central nervous system (CNS). Here we describe fully functional GABAergic communication within rodent peripheral sensory ganglia and show that it can modulate transmission of pain-related signals from the peripheral sensory nerves to the CNS. We found that sensory neurons express major proteins necessary for GABA synthesis and release and that sensory neurons released GABA in response to depolarization. In vivo focal infusion of GABA or GABA reuptake inhibitor to sensory ganglia dramatically reduced acute peripherally induced nociception and alleviated neuropathic and inflammatory pain. In addition, focal application of GABA receptor antagonists to sensory ganglia triggered or exacerbated peripherally induced nociception. We also demonstrated that chemogenetic or optogenetic depolarization of GABAergic dorsal root ganglion neurons in vivo reduced acute and chronic peripherally induced nociception. Mechanistically, GABA depolarized the majority of sensory neuron somata, yet produced a net inhibitory effect on the nociceptive transmission due to the filtering effect at nociceptive fiber T-junctions. Our findings indicate that peripheral somatosensory ganglia represent a hitherto underappreciated site of somatosensory signal integration and offer a potential target for therapeutic intervention.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Great progress has been achieved in the study of Hippo signaling in regulating tumorigenesis; however, the downstream molecular events that mediate this process have not been completely defined. Moreover, regulation of Hippo signaling during tumorigenesis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains largely unknown. In the present study, we systematically investigated the relationship between Yes-associated protein/TEA domain family member (YAP-TEAD) and hepatocyte nuclear factor 4-alpha (HNF4α) in the hepatocarcinogenesis of HCC cells. Our results indicated that HNF4α expression was negatively regulated by YAP1 in HCC cells by a ubiquitin proteasome pathway. By contrast, HNF4α was found to directly associate with TEAD4 to compete with YAP1 for binding to TEAD4, thus inhibiting the transcriptional activity of YAP-TEAD and expression of their target genes. Moreover, overexpression of HNF4α was found to significantly compromise YAP-TEAD-induced HCC cell proliferation and stem cell expansion. Finally, we documented the regulatory mechanism between YAP-TEAD and HNF4α in rat and mouse tumor models, which confirmed our in vitro results. CONCLUSION There is a double-negative feedback mechanism that controls TEAD-YAP and HNF4α expression in vitro and in vivo, thereby regulating cellular proliferation and differentiation. Given that YAP acts as a dominant oncogene in HCC and plays a crucial role in stem cell homeostasis and tissue regeneration, manipulating the interaction between YAP, TEADs, and HNF4α may provide a new approach for HCC treatment and regenerative medicine. Abstract
PURPOSE Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are outstanding as novel cancer biomarkers with great prospects. Herein, we focused on summarizing the overall diagnostic evaluation of lncRNAs for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS Relevant literature was collected from the online databases. The Quality Assessment for Studies of Diagnostic Accuracy checklist was used to assess the quality of included studies. The pooled sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) were plotted using random-effects models. Summary receiver operating characteristic curve and the area under the curve (AUC) were used to estimate the overall test performance. Statistical analysis was performed by STATA 14.0 and Meta-DiSc 1.4 software. RESULTS Ten studies with a total of 820 HCC patients and 785 healthy controls were included. For overall lncRNAs, the pooled sensitivity, specificity, and DOR to predict HCC patients were 80% [95% confidence interval (CI) 77-82%], 79% (95% CI 76-81%), and 27.66 (95% CI 14.26-53.63), respectively, corresponding to an AUC of 0.91. CONCLUSIONS LncRNAs were a high diagnostic value for HCC and its expression could potentially be used as auxiliary biomarker in confirming HCC.

Abstract
Chronic pain represents a major clinical issue which so far is still in shortage of selective and effective treatment. Multiple components are involved in the pain processing, including peripheral, spinal and supraspinal levels of the nervous system. The core to fight the pain problem effectively is to have a good understanding of nociceptive mechanism and the neurobiology of pain perception. Optogenetic technique allows selective activation of subpopulation neurons and provides possibility for better understanding of complex pathway and modulation mechanism in nervous system. Here we review the researches to date that used optogenetic tools for studying pain pathway, and we also provide a brief overview of some new development in optogenetic techniques that may have great potentials in pain research.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine whether chewing gum during the postoperative period facilitates the recovery of bowel function in patients after radical cystectomy with ileum urinary diversion. METHODS In the study, 60 patients who underwent radical cystectomy followed by ileum urinary diversions during Nov. 2014 and Nov. 2015 in Department of Urology of Peking University First Hospital were randomized into three groups: gum chewing group, placebo group treated with the abdomen physical therapy machine and control group treated with ordinary method. Time to flatus, time to bowel movement, incidence of postoperative distension of the abdomen and abdominal pain, and gut related complications (such as ileus, intestinal fistula, and volrulus) of all the patients were recorded and analysed. RESULTS In gum chewing group, the median time to flatus was 57 hours (49-72 hours), and the median time to bowel movement was 95 hours (88-109 hours), which were significantly shortened compared with the other two groups of patients (82 hours, 109 hours in placebo group and 81 hours, 108 hours in control group, respectively). No significant difference of the median time to flatus and to bowel movement was observed between placebo group and control group. There were no significant differences in the incidence of postoperative distension of the abdomen and abdominal pain, and gut related complications among the three groups. CONCLUSION Chewing gum had stimulatory effect on bowel function recovery after cystectomy followed by ileum urinary diversion. Chewing gum was safe and simple, and could be routinely used for postoperative treatment after cystectomy and ileum urinary diversion.

Abstract
The oncological outcomes of upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) and bladder cancer (BC) in patients treated with radical surgeries remains controversial. A retrospective analysis of the clinicopathologicla data of 228 consecutive UTUC patients and 174 BC patients treated with radical surgeries from 2000 to 2012 at a high-volume center in China was conducted. Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression were used to compare overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) and to find prognostic factors. In this cohort of patients, BC were associated with male sex (P<0.001), multifocality (P<0.001), positive lymph node (P=0.002), no hydronephrosis (P<0.001) and open surgical approach (P<0.001). UTUC have statistically significant better 5-year CSS rate (61.0% vs. 49.8%, P=0.008) and OS rate (58.3% vs. 37.4%, P<0.001) than BC. Bladder tumor location (UTCU vs. BC: hazard ratio (HR)=0.703 and HR=0.462) and positive lymph node status (HR=1.919 and HR=1.667) were independent risk factors of cancer-specific death and overall mortality, respectively. Our data suggest that locally invasive urothelial carcinomas (UC) behave differently in the upper and lower urinary tracts. UTUC has a better prognosis than BC when stage and grade are considered simultaneously and lymph node involvement has significant influences on clinical outcomes of urothelial carcinoma.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Carcinoma of bladder is the most common malignancy in the urinary system in China. Most patients with this disease had non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) at the time of diagnosis. Radical cystectomy was indicated for patients with high risk or refractory NMIBC. We aimed to investigate the overall survival and disease-specific survival and related influence factors in patients undergoing radical cystectomy for pathological non-muscle invasive bladder cancer. METHODS From Jan. 2006 to Dec. 2012, a total of 164 patients with pathological non-muscle invasive bladder cancer underwent radical cystectomy in Peking University First Hospital. Clinical data were retrospectively collected.Incidence of lymph node metastasis and disease recurrence were calculated. The risk factors of disease recurrence were analyzed. Kaplan-Meier plots were used to estimate the overall survival and cancer-specific survival. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to evaluate the prognostic factors for survival. RESULTS Of all the patients included, 159 had T1 disease, and 5 had CIS only. The median follow-up duration was 46.5 months (range: 7-99 months). Fourteen patients were lost during the follow-up. Lymph node metastasis was noted in 6 patients (3.7%), 4 patients had N1 disease, one patient had N2 disease, and one patient had N3 disease. Disease recurrence occurred in 16 patients (9.8%).The most common recurrence sites were the liver, bones, and lungs. The 5-year overall survival and disease-specific survival for all the patients were 85% and 91%, respectively. The patients who underwent pelvic lymph node dissection showed a better prognosis in terms of disease-specific survival than those without (P=0.012). Patients with recurrence harbored a significant poorer survival (P<0.001). According to univariate Cox regression analysis, whether lymph node dissection was performed was an independent risk factor of disease recurrence (P=0.050, OR=2.695, 95%CI 0.999-7.271). In COX regression model, age (P=0.008, OR=1.071, 95%CI 1.018-1.126) and whether lymph node dissection was performed (P=0.011, OR=3.385, 95%CI 1.329-8.621) were related to disease-specific survival. CONCLUSION Patients with pathological non-muscle invasive bladder cancer underwent early radical cystectomy have a favorable prognosis, and bilateral pelvic lymph node dissection is essential for this procedure as it gains a survival benefit for the patients.

Abstract
Helminth infections and nutrition can independently alter the composition and abundance of the gastrointestinal microbiota, however, their combined effect is poorly understood. Here, we used the T. retortaeformis-rabbit system to examine how the helminth infection and host restriction from coprophagy/ready-to-absorb nutrients affected the duodenal microbiota, and how these changes related to the acquired immune response at the site of infection. A factorial experiment was performed where the bacterial community, its functionality and the immune response were examined in four treatments (Infect, Infect+Collar, Control+Collar and Control). Helminths reduced the diversity and abundance of the microbiota while the combination of parasites and coprophagic restriction led to a more diversified and abundant microbiota than infected cases, without significantly affecting the intensity of infection. Animals restricted from coprophagy and free from parasites exhibited the richest and most abundant bacterial community. By forcing the individuals to absorb nutrients from less digested food, the coprophagic restriction appears to have facilitated the diversity and proliferation of bacteria in the duodenum. Changes in the microbiota were more clearly associated with changes in the immune response for the infected than the nutrient restricted animals. The functional and metabolic characteristics of the duodenal microbiota were not significantly different between treatments. Overall, infection and diet affect the gut microbiota but their interactions and outcome can be complex. These findings can have important implications for the development of control measures to helminth infections where poor nutrition/malnutrition can also be a concern.

Abstract
Many studies have evaluated the relationships between alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels and the prognosis for osteosarcoma. However, a consensus has yet to be reached. We completed a meta-analysis to assess the significance of ALP and prognosis for osteosarcoma. We retrieved eligible documents from the PubMed and Embase databases and extracted related data from those documents. The overall survival (OS), hazard ratio (HR) and event-free survival (EFS) HR were obtained after combination to evaluate the impacts of ALP levels on prognosis for osteosarcoma. After screening, a total of 12 documents published between 1999 and 2013 were included. The ALP levels on OS were evaluated in nine documents. The pooled HRs was 1.78 (95% CI: 1.52-2.07, p < .05). The ALP levels on EFS were determined in eight documents. The pooled HRs was 1.58 (95% CI: 1.37-1.82, p < .05). Begg's test (OS, p > .754; EFS, p > .386) and Egger's test (OS, p > .649; EFS, p > .274) showed that there was no significant publication bias during analytic process. In summary, our meta-analysis shows that a higher level of ALP can decrease the OS and EFS in patients with osteosarcoma and ALP is an important biological indicator for patients with osteosarcoma.

Abstract
A small number of features are significantly correlated with classification in high-dimensional data. An ensemble feature selection method based on cluster grouping is proposed in this paper. Classification-related features are chosen using a ranking aggregation technique. These features are divided into unrelated groups by an affinity propagation clustering algorithm with a bicor correlation coefficient. Some diversity and distinguishing feature subsets are constructed by randomly selecting a feature from each group and are used to train base classifiers. Finally, some base classifiers that have better classification performance are selected using a kappa coefficient and integrated using a majority voting strategy. The experimental results based on five gene expression datasets show that the proposed method has low classification error rates, stable classification performance and strong scalability in terms of sensitivity, specificity, accuracy and G-Mean criteria.

Abstract
Dinoflagellates are important components of marine ecosystems and essential coral symbionts, yet little is known about their genomes. We report here on the analysis of a high-quality assembly from the 1180-megabase genome of Symbiodinium kawagutii. We annotated protein-coding genes and identified Symbiodinium-specific gene families. No whole-genome duplication was observed, but instead we found active (retro)transposition and gene family expansion, especially in processes important for successful symbiosis with corals. We also documented genes potentially governing sexual reproduction and cyst formation, novel promoter elements, and a microRNA system potentially regulating gene expression in both symbiont and coral. We found biochemical complementarity between genomes of S. kawagutii and the anthozoan Acropora, indicative of host-symbiont coevolution, providing a resource for studying the molecular basis and evolution of coral symbiosis.

Abstract
With a wide wavelength tuning range, free-electron lasers (FELs) are well suited for producing simultaneous lasing at multiple wavelengths. We present the first experimental results of a novel two-color storage ring FEL. With three undulators and a pair of dual-band mirrors, the two-color FEL can lase simultaneously in infrared (IR) around 720 nm and in ultraviolet (UV) around 360 nm. We have demonstrated independent wavelength tuning in a wide range (60 nm in IR and 24 nm in UV). We have also realized two-color harmonic operation with the UV lasing tuned to the second harmonic of the IR lasing. Furthermore, we have demonstrated good power stability with two-color lasing, and good control of the power sharing between the two colors.

Abstract
Insomnia increases type-2 diabetes (T2D) risk. The 12q24 locus is linked to T2D, depression, bipolar disorder and anxiety. At the 12q24 locus, the Proteasome-Modulator 9 (PSMD9) single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) rs74421874 [intervening sequence (IVS) 3+nt460-G>A], rs3825172 (IVS3+nt437-C>T) and rs14259 (E197G-A>G) are linked to: T2D, depression, anxiety, maturity-onset-diabetes-of the young 3/MODY3, obesity, waist circumference, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, T2D-macrovascular disease, T2D-microvascular disease, T2D-neuropathy, T2D-carpal-tunnel syndrome, T2D-nephropathy, T2D-retinopathy and non-diabetic retinopathy. PSMD9 SNP rs1043307/rs14259 (E197G-A>G) plays a role in anti-depressant therapy response, depression and schizophrenia. We aimed at determining PSMD9 rs74421874/rs3825172/rs14259 SNPs potential linkage to primary insomnia and sleep hours in T2D families. We recruited 200 Italian T2D families phenotyping them for primary insomnia and sleep hours per night. PSMD9-T2D-risk SNPs rs74421874/rs3825172 and rs1043307/rs14259 were tested for linkage with insomnia and sleep hours. Non-parametric-linkage analysis, linkage-disequilibrium-model analysis, single-SNP analysis, cluster-based-parametric analysis, quantitative-trait and variant-component analysis were performed using Merlin software. To validate data, 1000 replicates were executed for the significant non-parametric data. PSMD9 rs74421874 (IVS3+nt460-G>A), rs3825172 (IVS3+nt437-C>T) and rs1043307/rs14259 (E197G-A>G) SNPs are linked to insomnia in our Italian families.
