Abstract
BACKGROUND The low incidence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection and lack of adequate controls have prevented researchers from estimating tuberculosis (TB) risk in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients. AIM To evaluate the risk of incident TB among IBD patients. METHODS Using the 2011-2013 data of the South Korean National Health Insurance (NHI) system, we calculated the incidence rates (IRs), standardised incidence ratio (SIR) and number needed to screen (NNS) for incident TB in IBD patients compared to the general population in terms of subtype, age, gender and IBD medications. RESULTS The IR, SIR and NNS for TB in IBD patients were 223.9/100 000 person-years, 2.64 (2.30-3.01) and 446.6 (392.8-517.6), respectively. The TB IR in Crohn's disease (CD) patients was significantly higher than that in ulcerative colitis (UC) patients (340.1/100 000 person-years vs. 165.5/100 000 person-years, respectively; P < 0.001). The SIR and NNS for TB among CD patients were 4.00 (3.59-4.45) and 604.2 (506.1-749.6), respectively; those among UC patients were 1.95 (1.66-2.27) and 294.0 (246.9-363.4). The TB IRs in IBD patients did not differ significantly by age or gender (Ptrend = 0.505 and P = 0.861, respectively). The TB IRs among IBD patients prescribed 5-ASA, corticosteroids, immunomodulators and anti-TNF-α were 143.5, 208.5, 284.6 and 554.1 per 100 000 person-years, respectively. Among IBD patients treated using anti-TNF-α, the TB IR was significantly higher than that among all IBD patients (P < 0.001); the SIR and NNS for TB were 6.53 (5.99-7.09) and 180.5 (144.6-240.1) respectively. CONCLUSION Clinicians should be aware of the increased risk of active tuberculosis in patients with IBD who are receiving anti-TNF-α therapy.

Abstract
Mixed endometrial stromal and smooth muscle tumor of the uterus is a rare occurrence, and it is truly challenging to diagnose or dif- ferentiate mesenchymal tumors of the uterine corpus, due to their many overlapping features. In most cases, the gross pathology of mixed endometrial stromal and smooth muscle tumor differs from that of pure endometrial stromal and pure smooth muscle tumors. A 59-year-old postmenopausal woman presented with vaginal spotting, low abdominal pain, and an uterine mass. Subsequent pelvic magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 4.0x3.8x3.4-cm sized uterine mass with enhancement. The mass showed restricted diffusion on diffusion-weighted images, and thus, was suspected to be uterine sarcoma rather than degenerative leiomyoma. Levels of tumor markers, CA 125, CA 19-9, and SCC, were within their normal ranges. The patient underwent exploratory laparotomy. Morphological and immunohistochemical evaluations were performed, and a final diagnosis of mixed endometrial stromal and smooth muscle tumor of the uterus was rendered. Her postoperative course was uneventful, and aromatase inhibitor adjuvant therapy was administered.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cell migration plays a major role in the immune response and in tumorigenesis. Interferon-inducible T-cell alpha chemoattractant (ITAC) elicits a strong chemotactic response from immune cells. OBJECTIVES To examine the effect of ITAC on melanocyte migration and pigmentation and its involvement in related disorders, and to investigate potential key players in these processes. METHODS Human melanocytes or melanoma cells were treated with ITAC and a migration assay was carried out. Global gene expression analysis was performed to find genes regulated by ITAC treatment. The function of key players involved in ITAC-induced cellular processes was addressed using knockdown or overexpression experiments in combination with ITAC treatment. ITAC expression in the inflammation-associated hypopigmentary disorder, vitiligo, was examined. RESULTS Among CXCR3 ligands, only ITAC induced melanocyte migration. ITAC treatment upregulated the expression of histone deacetylase 5 (HDAC5) and downregulated that of p53, a known target of HDAC5. Through knockdown or overexpression of HDAC5 and p53, we confirmed that HDAC5 mediates ITAC-induced migration by decreasing levels of p53 via deacetylation. In addition, ITAC treatment could decrease pigmentation in a p53- and HDAC5-dependent manner. Finally, the increased migration of human melanoma cells by ITAC treatment and the increased ITAC expression in the epidermis of vitiligo skin were verified. CONCLUSIONS This study provides in vitro evidence for the migratory and hypopigmentation effects of ITAC on melanocytic cells, gives translational insights into the roles of ITAC in pathological conditions, and suggests that HDAC5 and its substrate p53 are potent targets for regulating ITAC-induced cellular processes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND De novo malignancy is not uncommon after liver transplantation (LT). Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignancies in both the Korean general population and LT recipients, and colorectal cancer prevalence is gradually increasing. METHODS Among 3690 adult recipients who underwent LT from January 1999 and December 2013, the screening patterns and prognosis of 26 cases of gastric cancer and 22 cases of colorectal cancer were analyzed. RESULTS For gastric cancer, the mean patient age was 54.6 ± 6.2 years at LT and 59.5 ± 6.7 years at cancer diagnosis, with a post-transplant interval of 60.2 ± 29.8 months. Patients were divided into regular (n = 18) and non-regular (n = 8) screening groups, with early cancer found in 14 and 0 patients; their 2-year survival rates after cancer diagnosis were 93.1% and 33.3% (P = .006), respectively. Endoscopic resection was successfully performed in 8 patients, all in the regular screening group. For colorectal cancer, the mean patient age was 53.3 ± 6.1 years at LT and 58.1 ± 6.7 years at cancer diagnosis, with a post-transplant interval of 54.3 ± 38.0 months. Patients were divided into regular (n = 19) and non-regular (n = 3) screening groups, with early cancer found in 12 and 0 patients; their 2-year survival rates after cancer diagnosis of 92.3% and 33.3% (P = .003), respectively. Endoscopic resection was successfully performed in 6 patients, all in the regular screening group. CONCLUSIONS LT recipients are strongly advised to undergo regular screening studies for various de novo malignancies, especially cancers common in the general population. Regular endoscopic screening contributes to the timely detection of gastric and colorectal cancers, improving post-treatment survival outcomes.

Abstract
Background Since the first case of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) in South Korea was reported on 20th May 2015, there have been 186 confirmed cases, 38 deaths and 16,752 suspected cases. Previously published research on South Korea's MERS outbreak was limited to the early stages, when few data were available. Now that the outbreak has ended, albeit unofficially, a more comprehensive review is appropriate. Methods Data were obtained through the MERS portal by the Ministry for Health and Welfare (MOHW) and Korea Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, press releases by MOHW, and reports by the MERS Policy Committee of the Korean Medical Association. Cases were analysed for general characteristics, exposure source, timeline and infection generation. Sex, age and underlying diseases were analysed for the 38 deaths. Findings Beginning with the index case that infected 28 others, an in-depth analysis was conducted. The average age was 55 years, which was a little higher than the global average of 50 years. As in most other countries, more men than women were affected. The case fatality rate was 19.9%, which was lower than the global rate of 38.7% and the rate in Saudi Arabia (36.5%). In total, 184 patients were infected nosocomially and there were no community-acquired infections. The main underlying diseases were respiratory diseases, cancer and hypertension. The main contributors to the outbreak were late diagnosis, quarantine failure of ‘super spreaders’, familial care-giving and visiting, non-disclosure by patients, poor communication by the South Korean Government, inadequate hospital infection management, and ‘doctor shopping’. The outbreak was entirely nosocomial, and was largely attributable to infection management and policy failures, rather than biomedical factors.

Abstract
This review describes the current understanding and the potential use of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) in cell-based therapies for clinical management of difficult wounds and other dermatoses. MSCs have been shown to possess many advantageous properties that make them a promising therapeutic modality in dermatology still under investigation. In fact, MSCs' ability to promote wound healing through its paracrine function and pro-angiogenic properties have generated increasing interest for treating acute and chronic wounds. There is also great interest in utilizing MSCs' immunological characteristics for therapeutic use especially for patients with debilitating systemic autoimmune and inflammatory skin conditions who have failed other therapies. Its role in aesthetics has also been explored with clinical data showing improvement of acne scars and wrinkles from photoaging. Clinical trials are underway investigating the safety and efficacy of MSCs in the treatment of different skin conditions such as acute burns, diabetic and venous stasis ulcers, epidermolysis bullosa and systemic sclerosis, among others. We anticipate that as our understanding of the characteristics and function of MSCs grow, so will its role in cell-based treatments of dermatological conditions.

Abstract
Desmoplastic cerebral astrocytoma of infancy (DCAI) presents as a large supratentorial mass consisting of a central cystic component and an enhancing solid component associated with peripheral dural attachment. We report the unusual MR findings of a DCAI that differed from previously reported cases in terms of the presence of calcification, which is not considered a feature of this tumor, and the absence of an enhancing peripheral dural component.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To evaluate response to radiation and clinical outcome of uterine cervical cancer patients with tumor-related leukocytosis (TRL) at initial diagnosis and during definitive radiotherapy. PATIENTS AND METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 2456 patients with stage IA-IVA uterine cervical cancer who received definitive radiotherapy with (37.4%) or without (62.6%) platinum-based chemotherapy between 1986 and 2012. TRL was defined as two or more occurrences of leukocytosis over 9000/μl at the time of diagnosis and during the course of treatment. Locoregional failure-free survival (LFFS) and overall survival (OS) were compared between patients with or without TRL. RESULTS The median age of all patients was 55 years, and the median follow-up time was 65.1 months. TRL was observed in 398 patients (16%) at initial diagnosis; TRL (+) patients were younger and had larger tumors, advanced stage, and more frequent lymph node metastases (all P < 0.05). TRL (+) patients showed a significantly lower rate of complete remission than TRL (-) patients (89.9% versus 96.3%, respectively, P = 0.042). Ten-year LFFS and OS for all patients were 84% and 78%, respectively. LFFS and OS were significantly lower in TRL (+) patients than TRL (-) patients (10-year LFFS: 69% versus 87% respectively, P < 0.001; 10-year OS: 63% versus 81% respectively P < 0.001). After propensity score matching, LFFS and OS rates in TRL (+) patients remained significantly lower than for TRL (-) patients; this significant difference was also observed on multivariate analysis. Twenty-six percent of patients with locoregional failure (n = 345) were TRL (+) and had significantly poorer median OS (6 versus 12 months, P = 0.001). CONCLUSION This study reveals the aggressive nature of cervical cancer with TRL and its poor response to radiation therapy. Given the unfavorable prognosis and higher probability of treatment failure, optimal diagnostic and therapeutic approaches and careful monitoring for early detection of recurrence should be considered for these patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Donor safety is the most important aspect in living-donor liver transplantation (LDLT). Gilbert syndrome is an autosomal recessive condition that is a common cause of isolated unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia, and its prevalence is not negligibly low in the general population. This study intended to assess donor safety and recipient liver function after LDLT with the use of right liver grafts from living donors with Gilbert syndrome. METHODS Among 2,140 right liver transplantations performed from January 2002 to December 20113 at our institution, we identified 12 living donors (0.6%) who showed a preoperative serum total bilirubin level of ≥2 mg/dL. These donors were clinically diagnosed with Gilbert syndrome. The clinical outcomes of these donors and their recipients were analyzed retrospectively. RESULTS The mean donor age was 24.6 ± 7.1 years, and 11 donors were male. All subjects met the preoperative evaluation conditions for right liver donation except for the level of unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia. The mean serum total bilirubin level of the donors was 2.23 ± 0.20 mg/dL before and 1.79 ± 0.61 mg/dL 1 year after right liver donation. The preoperative donor direct bilirubin level was 0.43 ± 0.19 mg/dL. The preoperative indocyanine green retention rate at 15 minutes was 8.2 ± 2.8%. All donors and recipients recovered uneventfully and were alive at the time of writing. The recipient serum total bilirubin level was 1.29 ± 0.47 mg/dL 1 year after LDLT. CONCLUSIONS We suggest that LDLT with living donors with Gilbert syndrome can be safely performed, but that a meticulous preoperative evaluation is vital to maximize donor safety.

Abstract
Insulin receptor substrate-1 (IRS-1) is a signaling adaptor protein that interfaces with many pathways activated in lung cancer. It has been assumed that IRS-1 promotes tumor growth through its ability to activate PI3K signaling downstream of the insulin-like growth factor receptor. Surprisingly, tumors with reduced IRS-1 staining in a human lung adenocarcinoma tissue microarray displayed a significant survival disadvantage, especially within the Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homolog (KRAS) mutant subgroup. Accordingly, adenoviral Cre recombinase (AdCre)-treated LSL-Kras/Irs-1(fl/fl) (Kras/Irs-1(-/-)) mice displayed increased tumor burden and mortality compared with controls. Mechanistically, IRS-1 deficiency promotes Janus kinase/signal transducers and activators of transcription (JAK/STAT) signaling via the IL-22 receptor, resulting in enhanced tumor-promoting inflammation. Treatment of Kras/Irs-1(+/+) and Kras/Irs-1(-/-) mice with JAK inhibitors significantly reduced tumor burden, most notably in the IRS-1-deficient group.

Abstract
Abstract
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide. In the United States alone, lung cancer accounts for ~160,000 deaths per year while the five-year survival rate remains stagnant at ~15%. Lung adenocarcinoma (ADCA) accounts for over 50% of non-small lung cancer cases. Within this subset, K-ras is the most common activating mutation accounting for ~35% of cases. Kras mutant tumors have remained a largely un-targetable subtype and a better understanding of the signaling pathway involved in the different ADCA subtypes will be necessary for the development of therapeutics. Insulin Receptor Substrate-1 (IRS-1) is a signaling adaptor protein that interfaces with many of the pathways that are activated in lung cancer. We have undertaken a controlled study of this protein within the context of lung ADCA. Analysis of a well-annotated human lung ADCA TMA (n=136) revealed that positive IRS-1 staining provided a 75-month median survival advantage among all ADCA cases (p=0.01) and an 81-month median advantage within the K-ras subtype (p=0.006). EGFR and non-K-ras/non-EGFR cases did not display differences. To focus in on the K-ras subtype, we generated LSL-K-ras/IRS-1fl/fl mice and studied them over a time course. LSL-K-ras/IRS-1-/- mice displayed highly significant early mortality (p<0.0001) and increased tumor burden when compared to LSL-K-ras/IRS-1+/+ controls (p<0.01). Interestingly, IRS-1 loss in tumor cells generated a robust immune response. The bronchial alveolar lavage fluid of LSL-K-ras/IRS-1-/- mice showed increased immune infiltration, most prominently neutrophilic (5 times higher). Significant increases in many immune cell-recruiting chemokines were observed in the LSL-K-ras/IRS-1-/- mice compared to controls including CCL2, CCL3, CCL4, CXCL1, CXCL2 and CXCL5. Surprisingly, an array of IRS-1 silenced A549 cells versus controls displayed no change in CC/CXC chemokine production. We decided to investigate which factor could be missing in our in vitro system that is necessary for activation of this chemokine response. IL-17 and IL-22 producing cells, which are present at sites of tumor in human lung cancer cases and LSL-K-ras mice are known to induce CC/CXC chemokine responses. The JAK/STAT pathway is also implicated in this response. We found that loss of IRS-1 increases pSTAT3 production in vivo and in vitro in the presence of IL-22. Finally, we treated LSL-K-ras/IRS-1-/- and LSL-K-ras/IRS-1+/+ controls with a JAK inhibitor (AZD1480). A significant reduction in tumor burden and chemokine response was observed in both genotypes, with the most pronounced response in the LSL-K-ras/IRS-1-/- group. K-ras mutant, IRS-1-low patients represent ~40% of K-ras mutant lung ADCA patients. The phenotype of this group of patients is counter-intuitive in that IRS-1 typically functions in a pro-growth manner. In the setting of certain oncogenic drivers, however, IRS-1 plays an opposing role to this in which its presence actually maintains homeostasis. This work provides evidence that JAK inhibition may be a viable therapeutic option for these patients as well as describes a novel role for IRS-1 as a mediator of immune cell recruitment in lung adenocarcinoma.

Abstract
Abstract
Lung cancer is a heterogeneous disease comprised of multiple histologic subtypes that harbor disparate mutational landscapes. Small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC), in which RB1 and TP53 mutations are common, accounts for 10-20% of lung cancer diagnoses. Approximately half of non-small cell lung carcinoma cases are classified as lung adenocarcinomas (ADCA), in which KRAS, EGFR, and TP53 mutations are the predominant genetic drivers. Novel immunotherapeutic strategies have offered new hope for the management of ADCA and SCLC, but the clinical success of immunomodulatory agents will depend on a strong foundational knowledge of the cells that comprise the lung tumor microenvironment (TME) in these molecularly and histologically distinct diseases. We therefore sought to determine whether the host immune response to lung cancer is predicated, at least in part, by histologic and genetic differences, as such correlations would have important clinical ramifications.
Using three mouse models of lung ADCA KrasLSL-G12D, KrasLSL-G12D;Trp53Fl/Fl, and EgfrL858R as well as the Rb1Fl/Fl;Trp53Fl/Fl model of SCLC, we show that SCLC and ADCA tumors exhibit unique immune cell composition. Lung specimens from tumor-bearing and control animals (n ≥ 5 per cohort) were harvested at multiple time points and subjected to histological assessment and comprehensive flow cytometric immunophenotyping. Tumor-associated inflammation was discernibly lower in SCLC compared to all ADCA models. Moreover, the leukocyte composition of SCLC was dominated by cells of the adaptive rather than innate arm of the host immune system, a finding subsequently validated in 2 human SCLC surgical specimens. We further identified key differences in leukocyte content of mouse ADCA that correlated with oncogenic mutation. Although Egfr-mutant cancers displayed robust myeloid cell recruitment, they failed to mount a CD8+ cellular immune response. In contrast, Kras-mutant tumors displayed significant expansion of multiple immune cell types, including CD8+ cells, regulatory T cells, IL17-producing lymphocytes, and myeloid cells. Although loss of Trp53 promoted malignancy, it had minimal effect on immune cell composition within the Kras TME. Pre-clinical in vivo investigations with immune checkpoint inhibitor compounds are currently being conducted to assess the importance of these distinct immune responses to tumor progression and survival.
To determine whether the differential inflammatory responses observed in mice are clinically relevant, we conducted an immune profiling study of a large lung cancer patient cohort that included 55 ADCA specimens. Notably, patients with EGFR mutations (n = 5) exhibited fewer total CD8+ T cells, as well as decreased exhausted CD8+PD1+ and CD8+TIM3+ content, compared to all other ADCA cases, thereby substantiating the murine phenotype. Taken together, these findings establish a strong foundational knowledge of the immune cell contexture of lung ADCA and SCLC and suggest that molecular and histological traits shape the host immune response to cancer.

Abstract
This study cross-validated statistical models for prediction of peak oxygen consumption using ratings of perceived exertion from the Adult OMNI Cycle Scale of Perceived Exertion. 74 participants (men: n=36; women: n=38) completed a graded cycle exercise test. Ratings of perceived exertion for the overall body, legs, and chest/breathing were recorded each test stage and entered into previously developed 3-stage peak oxygen consumption prediction models. There were no significant differences (p>0.05) between measured and predicted peak oxygen consumption from ratings of perceived exertion for the overall body, legs, and chest/breathing within men (mean±standard deviation: 3.16±0.52 vs. 2.92±0.33 vs. 2.90±0.29 vs. 2.90±0.26 L·min(-1)) and women (2.17±0.29 vs. 2.02±0.22 vs. 2.03±0.19 vs. 2.01±0.19 L·min(-1)) participants. Previously developed statistical models for prediction of peak oxygen consumption based on subpeak OMNI ratings of perceived exertion responses were similar to measured peak oxygen consumption in a separate group of participants. These findings provide practical implications for the use of the original statistical models in standard health-fitness settings.

Abstract
As the criteria for liver donation have been extended to include marginal donors, liver grafts are becoming particularly vulnerable to hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI). However, no specific measures have been validated to ameliorate hepatic IRI. In this article, we explored whether everolimus has protective effects against hepatic IRI in relation with autophagy. The effects of everolimus were investigated in both in vitro and in vivo hepatic IRI models. Mouse hepatocyte AML12 cells and BALB/c mice were utilized for the establishment of each model. In the IRI-induced AML12 cells, everolimus treatment increased the expressions of autophagic markers (microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 and p62) and decreased pro-apoptotic proteins (cleaved caspase 3 and cleaved poly-ADP ribose polymerase). The blockage of autophagy, using either bafilomycin A1 or si-autophagy-related protein 5, abrogated these anti-apoptosis effects of everolimus. Subsequently, everolimus administration to the hepatic IRI-induced mice provided hepatoprotective effects in terms of (1) decreasing the expressions of pro-apoptotic proteins, (2) inhibiting the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α), (3) reducing elevated liver enzymes (aspartate transaminase, alanine transaminase, and ammonia), and (4) restoring liver histopathology. These findings suggest that everolimus protects the liver against hepatic IRI by way of activating autophagy, and thus could be a potential therapeutic agent for hepatic IRI.

Abstract
Effects of low-dosage electron beam irradiation on antioxidant activities of Navel oranges during storage at a low temperature of 3°C were studied. Oranges were irradiated at dosages of 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0 kGy and changes in antioxidant compounds and antioxidant activities were investigated. No changes in total phenolic contents or flavonoid contents were observed with an increase in radiation dosage. Also, no differences between non-irradiated and irradiated oranges in DPPH radical scavenging and ABTS radical scavenging activities, FRAP values, and reducing powers were observed. Electron beam irradiation at dosages less than 1 kGy does not affect levels of antioxidant compounds and antioxidant activities of Navel oranges.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Procedure-related thromboembolism is a major limitation of coil embolization, but the relationship between thromboembolic infarction and antiplatelet resistance is poorly understood. The purpose of this study was to verify the association between immediate postprocedural thromboembolic infarction and antiplatelet drug resistance after endovascular coil embolization for unruptured intracranial aneurysm. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study included 338 aneurysms between October 2012 and March 2015. All patients underwent postprocedural MR imaging within 48 hours after endovascular coil embolization. Antiplatelet drug resistance was checked a day before the procedure by using the VerifyNow system. Abnormal antiplatelet response was defined as >550 aspirin response units and >240 P2Y12 receptor reaction units. In addition, we explored the optimal cutoff values of aspirin response units and P2Y12 receptor reaction units. The primary outcome was radiologic infarction based on postprocedural MR imaging. RESULTS Among 338 unruptured intracranial aneurysms, 134 (39.6%) showed diffusion-positive lesions on postprocedural MR imaging, and 32 (9.5%) and 105 (31.1%) had abnormal aspirin response unit and P2Y12 receptor reaction unit values, respectively. Radiologic infarction was associated with advanced age (65 years and older, P = .024) only with defined abnormal antiplatelet response (aspirin response units ≥ 550, P2Y12 receptor reaction units ≥ 240). P2Y12 receptor reaction unit values in the top 10th percentile (>294) were associated with radiologic infarction (P = .003). With this cutoff value, age (adjusted odds ratio, 2.29; 95% confidence interval, 1.28-4.08), P2Y12 receptor reaction units (>294; OR, 3.43; 95% CI, 1.53-7.71), and hyperlipidemia (OR, 2.05; 95% CI, 1.04-4.02) were associated with radiologic infarction in multivariate analysis. CONCLUSIONS Radiologic infarction after coiling for unruptured aneurysm was closely associated with age. Only very high P2Y12 receptor reaction unit values (>294) predicted postprocedural infarction. Further controlled studies are needed to determine the precise cutoff values, which could provide information regarding the optimal antiplatelet regimen for aneurysm coiling.

Abstract
Heterotopic bone formation is a very rare event in the gastrointestinal tract including in the appendix. Here we report three cases of heterotopic ossification in appendiceal mucinous neoplasms, one occurring in an appendiceal mucinous cystadenoma, another in a low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm, and the third occurring in an appendiceal mucinous adenocarcinoma. The clinicopathologic characteristics of these three present cases and two previously reported cases are discussed in detail. The mechanism of heterotopic ossification in appendiceal mucinous neoplasm is still unclear, but mucin extravasation and subsequent calcification may be predisposing events.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to differentiate hemangioblastomas from metastatic brain tumors using dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) and compare the diagnostic performances with diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and dynamic susceptibility contrast magnetic resonance imaging (DSC-MRI). METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 7 patients with hemangioblastoma and 15 patients with metastatic adenocarcinoma with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) including DWI, DSC-MRI, and DCE-MRI. Apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), relative cerebral blood volume (rCBV), and DCE-MRI parameters (K trans, k ep, v e, and v p) were compared between the two groups. The diagnostic performance of each parameter was evaluated with receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. RESULTS v p, k ep, and rCBV were significantly different between patients with hemangioblastoma and those with metastatic brain tumor (p < 0.001, p = 0.005, and p = 0.017, respectively). A v p cutoff value of 0.012 and a rCBV cutoff value of 8.0 showed the highest accuracy for differentiating hemangioblastoma from metastasis. The area under the ROC curve for v p and rCBV was 0.99 and 0.89, respectively. A v p > 0.012 showed 100 % sensitivity, 93.3 % specificity, and 95.5 % accuracy and a rCBV > 8.0 showed 85.7 % sensitivity, 93.3 % specificity, and 90.9 % accuracy for differentiating hemangioblastoma from metastatic brain tumor. CONCLUSION DCE-MRI was useful for differentiating hemangioblastoma from metastatic brain tumor.

Abstract
Exposure to cold may affect growth performance in accordance with the metabolic and immunological activities of animals. We evaluated whether ambient temperature affects growth performance, blood metabolites, and immune cell populations in Korean cattle. Eighteen Korean cattle steers with a mean age of 10 months and a mean weight of 277 kg were used. All steers were fed a growing stage-concentrate diet at a rate of 1.5% of body weight and Timothy hay ad libitum for 8 weeks. Experimental period 1 (P1) was for four weeks from March 7 to April 3 and period 2 (P2) was four weeks from April 4 to May 1. Mean (8.7°C) and minimum (1.0°C) indoor ambient temperatures during P1 were lower (p<0.001) than those (13.0°C and 6.2°C, respectively) during P2. Daily dry matter feed intake in both the concentrate diet and forage groups was higher (p<0.001) during P2 than P1. Average daily weight gain was higher (p<0.001) during P2 (1.38 kg/d) than P1 (1.13 kg/d). Feed efficiency during P2 was higher (p = 0.015) than P1. Blood was collected three times; on March 7, April 4, and May 2. Nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) were higher on March 7 than April 4 and May 2. Blood cortisol, glucose, and triglyceride concentrations did not differ among months. Blood CD4+, CD8+, and CD4+CD25+ T cell percentages were higher, while CD8+CD25+ T cell percentage was lower, during the colder month of March than during May, suggesting that ambient temperature affects blood T cell populations. In conclusion, colder ambient temperature decreased growth and feed efficiency in Korean cattle steers. The higher circulating NEFA concentrations observed in March compared to April suggest that lipolysis may occur at colder ambient temperatures to generate heat and maintain body temperature, resulting in lower feed efficiency in March.

Abstract
AIM To determine the effectiveness and safety of preoperative tumour embolisation for skull-base meningiomas via external carotid artery (ECA) feeders using medium-sized (150-250 μm) polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) particles. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study included 114 consecutive patients with skull-base meningiomas who underwent preoperative tumour embolisation using medium-sized PVA particles from January 2004 to December 2013. Tumours were categorised according to feeding artery as follows: type 1, tumour staining at ECA angiography only; type 2, tumour staining at both the ECA and internal carotid artery (ICA) angiography; or type 3, little or no tumour staining at ECA angiography. The effectiveness was based on the percent reduction in the enhanced area: >75% was considered effective, 25-75% was considered partially effective, and <25% was considered ineffective. RESULTS Tumour embolisation was performed in patients with dominant feeding vessels originating from the ECA. Procedural-related complications occurred in two (1.8%) patients. Post-procedural MRI images were available for 51 patients, which revealed effective embolisation in only 13 (25.5%) patients. Identification of an ICA feeding vessel was associated with ineffective embolisation (p=0.011). Effective embolisation was associated with low estimated blood loss during surgery. CONCLUSION ECA embolisation using medium-sized PVA is ineffective in patients in whom a definitive ICA feeding vessel was identified, even if preprocedural angiography showed that the dominant feeder originated from the ECA. When the risks of surgical morbidity and mortality are expected to be high, ICA feeder embolisation should also be considered.

Abstract
Although the peel of the hallabong (Citrus sphaerocarpa) fruit is rich in polysaccharides, which are valuable dietary ingredients for human health, it is normally wasted. The present study aimed to utilize the peel waste and identify properties it may have against breast cancer metastasis. Hallabong peel extract containing crude polysaccharides was fractionated by gel permeation chromatography to produce four different polysaccharide fractions (HBE-I, -II, -III, and -IV). The HBE polysaccharides significantly blocked tube formation of human umbilical vein vascular endothelial cells (HUVECs), at a concentration of 12.5 or 25 μg/mL. Tube formation appeared to be more sensitive to HBE-II than to other HBE polysaccharides. HBE-II also inhibited breast cancer cell migration, through downregulation of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in MDA-MB-231 triple-negative breast cancer cells. Therefore, inhibition of tube formation and MMP-9-mediated migration observed in HUVEC and MDA-MB-231 cells, respectively, are likely to be important therapeutic targets in triple-negative breast cancer metastasis.

Abstract
The present study investigated the effects of back-fat thickness at d 107 of gestation and housing types during gestation on reproductive performance and behavior of sows. A total of 64 crossbred sows (Landrace×Yorkshire) in their 3 to 4 parities were allotted to one of four treatments (n = 16) over two consecutive parities. During each parity, sows were assigned to two gestational housing types (stall or group housing) and two level of back-fat thickness (<20 or ≥20) at d 107 of gestation. Gestating sows were transferred from gestational crates to stalls or pens (group housing) 5 weeks before farrowing. All sows were moved to farrowing crates on d 109 of gestation. At weaning, back-fat thickness changes were lesser (p<0.05) in sows having back-fat thickness <20 mm than that of sows with ≥20 mm back-fat thickness at 107 d of gestation. Group housed sows had greater (p<0.05) feed intake and shorter (p<0.05) weaning-to-estrus interval than that of sows in stalls. At weaning, back-fat thickness changes were lesser (p<0.05) in group housed sows than that of sows in stalls. The number of piglets at weaning, growth rate and average daily gain were greater (p<0.05) in group housed sows than that of sows in stalls. During gestation, walking duration was more (p<0.05) in group housed sows. Group housed sows had lesser (p<0.05) farrowing duration and greater (p<0.05) eating time than that of sows in stalls. Result obtained in present study indicated that sows with ≥20 mm back-fat thickness at 107 days had better reproductive performance. Additionally, group housing of sows during last five week of gestation improved the performance and behavior and reproductive efficiency of sows.
