Abstract
AIMS This study aimed to test the effects of a novel diabetes self-management education (DSME) programme focused on multilevel social resources utilization on improving self-management behaviour, social resources utilization and haemoglobin Alc (HbA1c ) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS A randomized controlled design was used. A total of 118 participants with T2DM from two communities were recruited through randomized sampling, and randomly assigned to the novel DSME group or the traditional DSME group. DSME focusing on multilevel social resources utilization was implemented in the novel DSME group. Data were collected at baseline (T0 ), at the end of the intervention (T1 ) and 3 months after the end of intervention (T2 ) from 3 March to 16 November 2014. RESULTS Comparing these two groups, the participants in the novel DSME group reported significantly better improvement in self-management behaviour and social resources utilization at T1 and T2 (all p < 0.01). A significant difference was found in the mean improvement of HbA1c level between the two groups at T2 (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The novel DSME programme focused on multilevel social resources utilization can effectively enhance T2DM patients' self-management behaviour and social resource utilization and lower HbA1c levels. More importantly, the effects could last longer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Teeth overeruption is a problem of clinical significance, but the underlying mechanism how changes in external occlusal force convert to the periodontium remodeling signals has been a largely under explored domain. And recently, periodontal ligament-associated protein-1 (PLAP-1)/asporin was found to play a pivotal role in maintaining periodontal homeostasis. The aim of this study was to explore the function of PLAP-1 in the periodontally hypofunctional tissue turnover. METHODS After extracting left maxillary molars in mice, the left and right mandibular molars were distributed into hypofunction group (HG) and control group (CG), respectively. Mice were sacrificed for radiographic, histological, and molecular biological analyses after 1, 4 and 12 weeks. In vitro, dynamic compression was applied using Flexcell FX-5000 Compression System to simulate intermittent occlusal force. The expression of PLAP1 in loaded and unloaded human periodontal ligament cells (hPDLCs) was compared, and its molecular biological effects were further explored by small interfering RNA (siRNA) targeting PLAP1. RESULTS In vivo, fiber disorder in periodontal ligament (PDL), bone apposition at furcation regions, and bone resorption in alveolar bone were illustrated in the HG compared with the CG. In addition, PLAP-1 positive area decreased significantly in PDL following occlusal unloading. In vitro, the loss of compressive loading relatively downregulated PLAP1 expression, which was essential to promote collagen I but inhibit osterix and osteocalcin expression in hPDLCs. CONCLUSIONS PLAP-1 presumably plays a pivotal role in occlusal force-regulated periodontal homeostasis by facilitating collagen fiber synthesis in hPDLCs and suppressing excessive osteoblast differentiation, further preventing teeth from overeruption. Further evidence in PLAP-1 conditional knockout mice is needed.

Abstract
The halide anions present in the electrolyte improve the Faradaic efficiencies (FEs) of the multi-hydrocarbon (C2+ ) products for the electrochemical reduction of CO2 over copper (Cu) catalysts. However, the mechanism behind the increased yield of C2+ products with the addition of halide anions remains indistinct. In this study, we analysed the mechanism by investigating the electronic structures and computing the relative free energies of intermediates formed from CO2 to C2 H4 on the Cu (100) facet based on density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results show that formyl *CHO from the hydrogenation reaction of the adsorbed *CO acts as the key intermediate, and the C-C coupling reaction occurs preferentially between *CHO and *CO with the formation of a *CHO-CO intermediate. We then propose a free-energy pathway of C2 H4 formation. We find that the presence of halide anions significantly decreases the free energy of the *CHOCH intermediate, and enhances desorption of C2 H4 in the order of I- >Cl- >Br- >F- . Lastly, the obtained results are rationalized through Bader charge analysis.

Abstract
People are increasingly relying on social networking sites (SNSs) to satisfy their needs for relatedness. However, the psychological benefits of receiving others' feedback on SNSs remain relatively understudied. To fill this research gap, the present research examined whether and how others' feedback to one's status updates on WeChat Moments (i.e. the most popular SNS in China) affects loneliness. A correlational study (N = 261) and an experimental study (N = 412) conducted among Chinese university students indicated that receiving more (vs. less) feedback in the forms of "likes" and "comments" predicted lower loneliness, and this effect was explained by a higher sense of social connectedness. However, receiving feedback only elicited higher social connectedness and thus lower loneliness among participants with high public self-consciousness, but this effect was not significant among those with low public self-consciousness. These findings extend the research on SNS use and loneliness by providing new insights into the underlying psychological mechanisms and have important practical implications for SNS developers and users in terms of how to design and use SNSs to better satisfy different users' psychological needs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND At present, the pathogenesis of post-treatment Lyme disease (PTLDS) is not clear, so the treatment scheme of PTLDS, especially antibiotic treatment, is still controversial. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of antibiotics in the treatment of PTLDS using network meta-analysis (NMA). METHODS Following PRISMA guidelines, a systematic literature search was conducted on randomized controlled trials in PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and Cochrane Library (the literature was published from database inception through December 16, 2022). Using random effect model and fixed effect model. STATA17.0 software was used to evaluate the quality and heterogeneity of the included research literature. RESULTS The system included 4 randomized controlled trials (485 subjects). The network meta-analysis showed that ceftriaxone had better results than placebo [Mean = 0.87, 95% CI (0.02, 1.71)] and doxycycline [Mean = 1.01, 95% CI (0.03, 1.98)] in FSS scale scores. There was no statistical difference in FSS scale scores of other drugs after treatment. In terms of FSS score results, Ceftriaxone was the best intervention according to the SUCRA value of each treatment (97.7). The analysis of outcome indicators such as Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Mental-health Scale and Physical-functioning scale showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the antibiotic group and placebo group. CONCLUSION Ceftriaxone treatment may be the best choice for antibiotic treatment of PTLD, which provides useful guidance for antibiotic treatment of PTLD in the future.

Abstract
Raman spectroscopy and stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) were used to investigate the hydrogen bonding (HB) network in 1,2-propanediol (1,2-PD)-water binary solutions. Abnormal changes in hydrogen bonds (HBs) were detected when V1,2-PD (volume fraction of the1,2-PD) was 0.4. In the case of Raman spectroscopy, the HB strength of water is weakened and then strengthened with the increase of 1,2-PD volume fraction. In the case of SRS, two new peaks at 3283 cm-1 and 3319 cm-1 were appeared, which demonstrated the appearance of ice-like structures near the methyl group and the weakening of HBs. Based on these phenomena, the HB structure of this binary system underwent a transition from H2O-H2O to H2O-1,2-PD when the V1,2-PD was 0.4 as V1,2-PD increased. This work serves as a reference value for the study of HB networks in alcohol-water binary solutions.

Abstract
Appropriate cold stimulation can improve stress resistance in broilers and alleviate the adverse impacts of a cold environment. To investigate the effects of intermittent mild cold stimulation (IMCS) on energy distribution in the livers of broilers, 96 healthy 1-d-old Ross-308 male broilers were randomly divided into the control group (CC) and the cold stimulation group (H5). The CC group was raised at a normal thermal temperature, i.e., 35 °C until 3 d, after which the temperature was dropped gradually by 0.5 °C/d until 20 °C at 33 d. This temperature was maintained until 49 d. The H5 group was raised at the same temperature as the CC group until 14 d (35 to 29.5 °C) and at 3 °C below the temperature of the CC group starting at 0930 hours for 5 h every other day from 15 to 35 d (26 to 17°C). The temperature was returned to 20 °C at 36 d and maintained until 49 d. At 50 d, all broilers were subjected to acute cold stress (ACS) at 10 °C for 6 and 12 h. We found that IMCS had positive effects on production performance. Using transcriptome sequencing of the broiler livers, 327 differentially expressed genes (DEG) were identified, and highly enriched in fatty acid biosynthesis, fatty acid degradation, and the pyruvate metabolism pathway. When compared to the CC group, the mRNA levels of ACAA1, ACAT2, ACSL1, CPT1A, LDHB, and PCK1 in the H5 group were increased at 22 d (P < 0.05). The LDHB mRNA level was upregulated in the H5 group at 29 d compared to the CC group (P < 0.05). After 21 d of IMCS (at 36 d), the mRNA expression levels of ACAT2 and PCK1 were found to be significantly increased in the H5 group compared to the CC group (P < 0.05). Seven days after the IMCS had ended (at 43 d), the mRNA levels of ACAA1, ACAT2, and LDHB in the H5 group were higher than in the CC group (P < 0.05). The mRNA levels of heat shock protein (HSP) 70, HSP90, and HSP110 in the H5 group were higher than in the CC group after 6 h of ACS (P < 0.05). The protein levels of HSP70 and HSP90 in the H5 group were downregulated after 12 h of ACS, compared to the CC group (P < 0.05). These results indicated that IMCS at 3 °C lower than the normal temperature could improve energy metabolism and stress resistance in the livers of broilers, alleviate the damage of short-term ACS on broilers, help broilers adapt to the low temperature, and maintain stable of energy metabolism in the body.

Abstract
Periodontitis causes inflammatory destructions of tooth-supporting tissue and constitutes a significant burden on public health. Failing to reserve the tissue damage and bone loss by any of the currently available therapies has left periodontitis uncurable thus far. Understanding the molecular mechanism in the inflammatory process is crucial to elucidating the pathogenesis and enlightening new therapeutic strategies for periodontitis. This study was to investigate whether and how ferroptosis, a newly-discovered form of cell death, was involved in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. Healthy and periodontitis human gingiva samples were collected and ligature-induced periodontitis murine models were constructed to investigate the role of ferroptosis in periodontitis. Single-cell RNA sequencing data was analyzed to identify the cell type that underwent ferroptosis. The susceptibility of human gingival fibroblasts to ferroptosis was investigated by in vitro cell cultures. We found that gingival fibroblasts undergo ferroptosis in periodontitis, and that periodontitis-induced tissue damage and bone loss were alleviated by inhibition of ferroptosis. Periodontitis-induced pro-inflammatory immune responses was featured by profound elevation of fibroblast-derived Interleukin-6, which was attenuated by ferroptosis inhibition. These results indicated fibroblast ferroptosis as a new clue to unveiling the cellular and molecular basis for periodontitis-induced tissue damage. Involvement of ferroptosis/Interleukin-6 signaling in the pathogenic process suggested a potential target for immunopharmacological approaches to curing periodontitis.

Abstract
Despite the importance of timing in our daily lives, our understanding of how the human brain mediates second-scale time perception is limited. Here, we combined intracranial stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) recordings in epileptic patients and circuit dissection in mice to show that visual cortex (VC) encodes timing information. We first asked human participants to perform an interval-timing task and found VC to be a key timing brain area. We then conducted optogenetic experiments in mice and showed that VC plays an important role in the interval-timing behavior. We further found that VC neurons fired in a time-keeping sequential manner and exhibited increased excitability in a timed manner. Finally, we used a computational model to illustrate a self-correcting learning process that generates interval-timed activities with scalar-timing property. Our work reveals how localized oscillations in VC occurring in the seconds to deca-seconds range relate timing information from the external world to guide behavior.

Abstract
In order to reveal the influences of supplemented dietary selenium (Se) on the suppressive effect of cadmium (Cd) toxicity on performance and egg properties of laying hens, the effects of co-treatment Se and Cd on the performance, egg quality, levels of amino acids and the antioxidant capacity of egg and serum were investigated. A total of 128 31-week-old laying hens were randomly distributed in four treatments, which were fed with the basic diet (0.2 mg/kg Se and 0.08 mg/kg Cd), and the basic diet with Se (1.1 mg/kg Se and 0.08 mg/kg Cd), Cd (0.2 mg/kg Se and 92.1 mg/kg Cd) and Se+Cd for 13 weeks, respectively. Hens supplemented with Cd led to an impairment on production performance and egg quality with decreased egg production (EP), egg mass (EM), feed intake (FI), eggshell color, eggshell thickness, yolk color, albumen height and haugh unit and increased the feed conversion ratio (FCR) (p < 0.05). Cd treatment decreased the contents of cysteine (Cys), histidine (His), lithium (Li), aluminum (Al), chromium (Cr), manganese (Mn), nickel (Ni), zinc (Zn), arsenic (As), Se, strontium (Sr), stannum (Sn), mercury (Hg) and thallium (Tl) and increased the contents of isoleucine (Ile) and Cd (p < 0.05). Cd destroyed the egg yolk and serum redox states with the increased concentration of malondialdehyde (MDA) and the decreased activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) (p < 0.05). The expression levels of ovarian apoptotic genes (protein 53, Caspase9, Cytochrome c and Bcl-2 associated X protein) increased, and B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) expression decreased in the Cd group (p < 0.05). Feeding Se significantly alleviated Cd-induced toxicity on performance and egg quality. Se+Cd treatment restored the balance between oxidation and antioxidant systems and modulated the elements' homeostasis and alleviated the changes in apoptotic-related genes expression levels. Se could alleviate the Cd toxicity to laying hens and their eggs but could not counteract all negative effects of Cd.

Abstract
A total of 240 healthy 1-day-old Ross 308 male broilers were randomly divided into 3 groups (CS0 group, CS3 group, and CS6 group), with 5 replicates in each group and 16 broilers in each replicate, in order to evaluate the effects of intermittent mild cold stimulation (IMCS) on the intestinal immune function and anti-cold stress ability of broilers after acute cold stress. The mRNA expression levels of cytokines and Toll-like receptors (TLRs) in the duodenum and jejunum were detected at the end of cold stimulation (36 d), 2 wk after recovery (50 d), and after acute cold stress (Y6). In addition, the mRNA and protein expression levels of heat shock proteins (HSPs) were measured before and after acute cold stress. The experimental data were statistically processed using 1-way ANOVA and Duncan's multiple comparisons. The results showed that the mRNA expression levels of IL2, IL8, IFN γ, TLR7, and TLR21 in the duodenum and IL2 and IFN γ in jejunum were significantly higher in the CS6 group than in the CS0 and CS3 groups at 36 d (P < 0.05). All TLR levels in the jejunum were significantly lower in the CS3 group than in the CS0 and CS6 groups at 36 d (P < 0.05). After 6 h of acute cold stress, in the duodenum, the mRNA expression levels of IL6 and IL8 were significantly decreased in the CS0 and CS6 groups compared to levels at 50 d (P < 0.05), while levels in the CS3 group remained stable (P > 0.05). Compared with 50 d, the expression level of HSP mRNA in the jejunum in the CS3 group was relatively stable compared to that in the CS0 and CS6 groups after acute cold stress (P > 0.05). At the protein level, the HSP60 expression level in the duodenum and HSP40, HSP60, and HSP70 expression levels in the jejunum were significantly higher in the CS3 group than in the CS0 and CS6 groups after acute cold stress (P < 0.05). In conclusion, cold stimulation training at 3℃/3 h lower than the conventional feeding temperature can improve the intestinal immune function and anti-stress ability of broilers.

Abstract
The cascaded stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) of an aqueous sodium sulfate solution was investigated as well as the generation of the crossing-pump effect. With the introduction of dual sample cells, the first-order Stokes of the O-H stretching vibrational mode was able to act as the pump light to excite the Stokes of the S-O stretching vibrational mode, and a new Raman peak was obtained at 4423 cm-1. The dual sample cell device not only lowered the SRS threshold, but also enhanced the four-wave mixing (FWM) process. Compared to the input laser of 7 ns/pulse, the first-order Stokes of O-H was compressed to a pulse width of 413 ps after passing through the dual sample cells. The SRS of aqueous sodium sulfate solution covered an ultrabroad wavelength ranging from 441 nm to 720 nm (a Raman shift ranging from -3859 cm-1 to 4923 cm-1). The cone-shaped launch ring of the FWM process was also recorded. This work provides a reference for the establishment of laser frequency conversion devices using an aqueous sodium sulfate solution as the Raman medium.

Abstract
The displacement of a suspension of particles by an immiscible fluid in a capillary tube or in porous media is a canonical configuration that finds application in a large number of natural and industrial applications, including water purification, dispersion of colloids and microplastics, coating and functionalization of tubings. The influence of particles dispersed in the fluid on the interfacial dynamics and on the properties of the liquid film left behind remain poorly understood. Here, we study the deposition of a coating film on the walls of a capillary tube induced by the translation of a suspension plug pushed by air. We identify the different deposition regimes as a function of the translation speed of the plug, the particle size, and the volume fraction of the suspension. The thickness of the coating film is characterized, and we show that similarly to dip coating, three coating regimes are observed, liquid only, heterogeneous, and thick films. We also show that, at first order, the thickness of films thicker than the particle diameter can be predicted using the effective viscosity of the suspension. Nevertheless, we also report that for large particles and concentrated suspensions, a shear-induced migration mechanism leads to local variations in volume fraction and modifies the deposited film thickness and composition.

Abstract
Drawing from the grounded theory of work engagement, this research aims to explore three essential yet previously unexamined pathways-work meaningfulness, emotion regulation, and job competence in simultaneously transmitting the effects of mindfulness training to employee experience of work engagement. We employed a six-wave quasi-experimental design and recruited 129 employees (77 from experimental group and 59 from control group) to participate in the quasi-experiment, and tested our simultaneous mediating models using the structural equation modeling. Results showed that mindfulness facilitated employees' work meaningfulness, emotion regulation, and job competence, which in turn enhanced employee work engagement. By doing so, we add to the mindfulness literature by showing that the three essential psychological states are important machanims that link mindfulness to work engagement. Practicially, this research reveals that mindfulness training is an effective tool to influence employees' psychological states (e.g., meaningfulness, competence), which ultimately develop their work engagement in the workplace.

Abstract
Plants have evolved signaling mechanisms that guide growth away from adverse environments that can cause yield losses. Root halotropism is a sodium-specific negative tropism that is crucial for surviving and thriving under high salinity. Although root halotropism was discovered some years ago, the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms remain unknown. Here, we show that abscisic acid (ABA)-mediated root twisting determines halotropism in Arabidopsis. An ABA-activated SnRK2 protein kinase (SnRK2.6) phosphorylates the microtubule-associated protein SP2L at Ser406, which induces a change in the anisotropic cell expansion at the root transition zone and is required for root twisting during halotropism. Salt stress triggers SP2L-mediated cortical microtubule reorientation, which guides cellulose microfibril patterns. Our findings thus outline the molecular mechanism of root halotropism and indicate that anisotropic cell expansion through microtubule reorientation and microfibril deposition has a central role in mediating tropic responses.

Abstract
Background and aim: Fuzheng Huayu Recipe (FZHY) is a Chinese patent medicine (approval No. Z20020074) included in the national medical insurance catalogue, which is mainly used for anti-hepatic fibrosis treatment of hepatitis B virus (HBV) induced liver fibrosis and liver cirrhosis. In clinical practice, we discovered that FZHY might also have a direct anti-HBV effect on inhibiting HBeAg production, but the mechanism underlying was unclear. This study aimed to clarify the molecular mechanism of the inhibition effect of FZHY on HBeAg production. Methods: The decrease degree of serum HBeAg titer in FZHY + entecavir (ETV) group patients were analyzed through clinical data. C57BL/6N-Tg (1.28HBV)/Vst HBV transgenic mice were used for in vivo experiments. HepG2. 2.15 cells (wild-type HBV replication cells) were used for in vitro experiments. Results: The clinical study results showed that the decrease degree of serum HBeAg titer in FZHY+ETV group was significantly higher than that in ETV group after 48 weeks treatment. In vivo experiments results showed that FZHY could significantly reduce the serum HBeAg titer in HBV transgenic mice, and promote HBeAg seroconversion. In vitro experiments results showed that FZHY could reduce HBeAg titer dependently, but it did not significantly inhibit the expression of HBsAg and HBV-DNA. Further cell experiments in vitro discovered that TOMM34 might be the key target for FZHY to inhibit HBeAg production. The subsequent pharmacological screening experiment of 20 active compounds in FZHY showed that quercetin, baicalin and cordycepin could promote the expression of TOMM34 gene and reduce the production of HBeAg. Conclusion: In conclusion, FZHY and its active compounds quercetin, baicalin and cordycepin could inhibit HBeAg production by promoting the expression of TOMM34 gene in HBV-infected hepatocytes.

Abstract
Stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in a liquid has been a major focus of nonlinear optics. Traditional SRS generates single or cascaded Stokes components arising from spontaneous Raman noise. Herein, we report the formation mechanism of a specific spectrum-continuous spectroscopy technique based on SRS of mixed liquids. SRS of a mixed acetone and carbon disulfide solution is investigated by a pulsed Nd:YAG laser with a wavelength of 532 nm. Two remarkably asymmetric broadened SRS lines are obtained. When the volume ratio is 7:3, the broadened spectral bands are optimized. The supercontinuum spectroscopy phenomenon is explained by hydrogen bond formation, adjacent vibrational modes coupling, and laser-induced plasma generation. This technique has the potential to contribute to the development of a supercontinuum Raman laser.

Abstract
Connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) have the great potential to improve traffic flow because of their particular characteristics of connectivity and automation. This study aims to develop CAV control strategies based on car-following speed balance, which are defined as dynamic speed limit (DSL) strategies, and examine their performances on reducing freeway collision risks via microscopic simulations. The core idea of DSL strategy is to command the CAVs to slow down actively before reaching the bottlenecks, and form moving barriers to guide the following human driven vehicles to passively decelerate. Three DSL strategies are first developed for CAVs based on vehicle dynamics principles, and the influences of various position distribution patterns of CAVs on three strategies are compared in the one-lane scenario. Then, the DSL strategy with the best performance is selected based on simulation experiments, and a conventional variable speed limit control is used to compare the performance of our proposed methods. Finally, the DSL strategy based on Min control is tested in the two-lane, three-lane and four-lane scenarios to verify the effectiveness. Simulation results indicate that: (1) three DSL strategies based on CAVs can significantlyreduce collision risks when CAVs reach a certain proportion; (2) the uniform distribution of CAVs can maximize the effect of the moving barriers; (3) DSL strategy based on Min control is negatively affected by lane-changing behaviors, but still works well in the multi-lane scenario.

Abstract
Objective: We aimed to review the long-term hearing outcomes of intact bridge tympanomastoidectomy (IBM) to discuss hearing preservation and combine the theory of "modified miniature lung," middle ear ventilation, and gas pressure balance theory to explore the possible reasons for long-term stable hearing. Study Design: We designed a collection of patients with chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) who underwent IBM and divided them into 2 groups to compare long-term and short-term hearing level. Setting: From April 2007 to July 2017, 102 patients received IBM for CSOM treatment in Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University. Methods: We divided the patients into 2 groups according to whether the follow-up period was longer than 6 months. We used the numerical value of the air-bone gap difference as an index to evaluate the degree of hearing recovery. Results: We found that 99/102 (97.1%) of the hearings were improved to more than 3 frequencies. There was no significant difference between long-term hearing level and short-term hearing level, which means IBM could get long-term hearing stability. Conclusion: Intact bridge tympanomastoidectomy could provide significant hearing recovery and long-term hearing stability.
