Abstract
Efficient negative photochromism was achieved by the photoinduced migration of merocyanine in mesoporous silica to an organophilic clay as spiropyran. Depending on the nature of the organophilic clays (dioctadecyldimethylammonium and dioleyldimethylammonium clays), important differences in the negative photochromisms and the thermal coloration were observed; the dioleyldimethylammonium clay gave a higher yield (98%) and faster reaction (half-life t1/2 = 2.8 h) than the dioctadecyldimethylammonium clay (94% and t1/2 = 3.2 h) of the negative photochromism, indicating the important role of the surfactant assembly to control the molecular diffusion.

Abstract
Aims The purpose of this study was to retrospectively investigate care difficulties experienced by caregivers of people with schizophrenia during COVID‐19 pandemic lockdowns in Japan (April 7‐May 25, 2020) and examine associations between these care difficulties during lockdowns and daily caregiver burden. Methods Data were collected from 132 participants of the LINE Schizophrenia Family Association using an online survey. Results Caregivers were mostly concerned about who would care for people with schizophrenia if caregivers become infected with COVID‐19. A significant association was found between higher daily caregiver burden and more difficult care experiences during COVID‐19 pandemic lockdowns (B = 0.58, 95% confidence interval, 0.40‐0.75, P < .01, adjusted R‐squared = .34). Conclusions Further studies and supports for caregivers of people with schizophrenia are needed. This study showed care difficulties experienced by caregivers of people with schizophrenia during COVID‐19 pandemic lockdowns in Japan and its association with daily caregiver burden.![]()

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to assess the feasibility of gastroesophageal manometry for continuously evaluating the degree of expiratory effort by measuring the pressures in the digestive tract during crescendo phonation. METHODS Each of 18 healthy nondysphonic speakers had a probe with a four-channel gastroesophageal manometer inserted through the nasal cavity to place four pressure sensors in the hypopharynx, cervical-/thoracic esophagus, and stomach, and was asked to gradually increase the vocal loudness during sustained phonation of the vowel /e:/ (vowel-crescendo task), while the sound pressure level and the pressures were simultaneously recorded. RESULTS 50% of the successful vowel-crescendo task samples with a gradual and adequate sound pressure level increase showed a concomitant gradual increase in both the intra-thoracic-esophageal/intra-gastric pressure values from approximately -5 mmHg /6 mmHg to -10 mmHg/20 mmHg, respectively. The maximum pressure value was the highest in the intra-gastric pressure followed by the intra-thoracic-esophageal and intra-cervical-esophageal pressures in order. However, most of the samples showed less than one of atypical pressure changes, such as fluctuations in the intra-thoracic-esophageal and intra-gastric pressure changes and dispersion in the intra-cervical-esophageal and intra-hypopharyngeal pressure values (perhaps due to the peristaltic motions, and the contact of the sensors to the membranous wall). CONCLUSION These results show that, during successful crescendo phonation, gastroesophageal manometry reveals a gradual increase in the intra-thoracic and intra-abdominal pressures with increasing the vocal intensity, even though showing some systematic errors, suggesting the usefulness of gastroesophageal manometry for continuously evaluating the degree of expiratory effort without influence by the laryngeal condition.

Abstract
AIM To clarify the utility of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) for interim evaluation of response to chemotherapy in lymphoma treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS CEUS was performed both before (day 0) and after the treatment (7 and/or 14 days), and a time-intensity curve was obtained. The patients were divided into two groups (complete remission [CR] group and non-CR group) according to the results of conventional response evaluation, and peak enhancement (PE), time to peak enhancement, perfusion index (PI), the total area under the curve during wash-in (AUC-in), and the total AUC were compared between the groups. RESULTS Among 27 patients with various types of lymphoma, the median change ratio of PE and PI at day 7 evaluation were significantly different between the CR group and the non-CR group (0.81 versus 1.39, p=0.017 for PE and 0.92 versus 2.09, p=0.010 for PI). The change ratio of PE < 1.09 (specificity: 86%; sensitivity, 88%) and PI < 1.65 (specificity: 86%; sensitivity: 94%) distinguished CR from non-CR. Patients who achieved a PE change ratio <1.09 or a PI change ratio <1.65 had significantly better estimated progression-free survival (p<0.001). CONCLUSION The present study demonstrated that changes in tumour perfusion parameters evaluated with CEUS at 1 week after the treatment initiation were significantly different between lymphoma patients in CR group and non-CR group. Alterations in perfusion parameters evaluated via CEUS could impact the prognosis of lymphoma patients.

Abstract
A cross-linked sulfonated polyether ether ketone (C-SPEEK) was incorporated with MXene/potassium titanate nanowire (MKT-NW) as a filler and applied as a proton exchange membrane for photocatalytic water splitting. The prepared hybrid composite PEM had proton conductivity of 0.0097 S cm−1 at room temperature with an ion exchange capacity of 1.88 meq g−1. The hybrid composite proton exchange membrane is a reactive membrane which was able to generate hydrogen gas under UV light irradiation. The efficiency of hydrogen gas production was 0.185066 μmol within 5 h for 12% wt of MKT-NW loading. The results indicated that the MKT-NW/C-SPEEK membrane is a promising candidate for ion exchange with hydrogen gas evolution in photocatalytic water splitting and could be applied as a renewable source of energy to use in various fields of applications. Abstract
Well-defined belt-shaped particles of octacalcium phosphate were prepared by mixing aqueous solutions of calcium acetate and that of sodium phosphate monobasic with the aid of a micro-flow reactor. Higher crystallinity and narrower particle size distribution were achieved by the micro-flow reactor if compared with the results of the batch reaction using the same solutions. The width of the belt was controlled by the mixing temperature (0.8 and 2.3 μm for the preparation at 50 and 70 °C, respectively). Post mixing aging at 50 °C, resulted in the directional growth of belt-shaped particles to obtain particles with the length of 17 μm (aspect ratio of 53). XRD and TEM analysis indicated that the micro-flow reactor could separate nucleation and growth allowing preferential growth along the a-direction. Well-defined octacalcium phosphate particles with varied size and aspect ratio were prepared by a micro-flow reactor mixing and subsequent aging in different temperature and aging time. ![]()

Abstract
Nanoarchitecture of hybrids materials based on clay minerals as nano building blocks for the environmental remediation is summarized with the emphasis on the utilization of layered clay minerals, especially smectite group of clay minerals, as nano building blocks for designing functional nanostructures for the adsorption of molecular contaminants from the environments. Smectites are well-known adsorbents of cationic contaminants, while surface modification of smectites with organoammonium ions has given hydrophobic and microporous characters to uptake nonionic organic contaminants from environments. Not only on the designed interactions between adsorbent-adsorbate for efficient and higher capacity adsorption, the states of the adsorbed nonionic organic compounds have been altered and varied by the modification of smectites as shown by the controlled release and specific catalytic reactions. The organically modified clays are classified from the nanoarchitecture, and the functions derived from the nanoarchitectures are discussed based on the structure-property relationship.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) have emerged as a promising modality for cellular therapy. However, techniques of ADSC cryopreservation, which can facilitate their clinical application, haven't been established yet. OBJECTIVE To determine optimal conditions for ADSC cryopreservation. MATERIALS AND METHODS We used three cryoprotectants [serum containing 10% dimethyl sulfoxide; CP-1TM (5% dimethyl sulfoxide, serum-free); Stem-CellBankerTM (dimethyl sulfoxide and serum-free)], two storage temperatures (-80°C, -150°C) and two cell densities (1 × 106, 7 × 106 cells/mL). Storage was up to 18 months using cryovials. We didn't use a rate-controlled freezer or liquid nitrogen storage. RESULTS We found that CP-1TM was a suitable cryoprotectant. Storage at -150°C and higher cell density (7×106 cells/mL) kept the best viability of ADSCs, but storage at -80°C and a lower cell density (1×106 cells/mL) is acceptable for up to 9 months. We also confirmed large quantities of ADSCs, stored with CP-1 in a cryobag, were still viable after -150°C cryopreservation for 24 months. CONCLUSION We have developed a safe, cost-effective way to cryopreserve ADSCs that could be used in the clinical setting.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To examine the relationship between fibroblast growth factor-23 levels, chronic kidney disease severity and mineral metabolic disorders associated to chronic kidney disease in dogs. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fifteen control and 75 chronic kidney disease dogs were retrospectively included. Serum fibroblast growth factor-23 concentration and other phosphate metabolite parameters were compared between controls and each International Renal Interest Society stage. Multiple regression analysis was performed to determine the predictors of fibroblast growth factor-23. RESULTS Serum fibroblast growth factor-23 concentrations were significantly higher in dogs with IRIS stages 2, 3 and 4 chronic kidney disease than those in dogs in control group and with stage 1 and increased along with the severity of chronic kidney disease. Compared with control dogs, serum intact parathyroid hormone significantly increased from stage 2 and serum phosphorus concentrations increased in dogs with stage 4. In dogs with stage 2, fibroblast growth factor-23 levels significantly increased in those with hyperphosphatemia compared with those with normophosphatemia. While eight of 26 (30.8%) dogs with stage 2 developed hyperparathyroidism (intact parathyroid hormone>8.5 ng/L), 19 (73.1%) dogs with stage 2 had elevated fibroblast growth factor-23 levels above the reference range (>528 pg/mL). Log creatinine, log intact parathyroid hormone and log product of total calcium and phosphorus were independent predictors of log fibroblast growth factor-23. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE This preliminary study suggests that canine fibroblast growth factor-23 might be involved in mineral metabolic disorders associated to chronic kidney disease in dogs, and this factor could be potentially used as an early marker for this condition.

Abstract
Anatase nanoparticles with a size of ca. 5 nm were prepared in mesoporous silica (SBA-15 with the pore diameter of 6 nm) by impregnation of the precursor derived from titanium tetraisopropoxide and subsequent heat treatment in air. The mesoporous structure of the anatase–silica hybrid and the size of the anatase particles were kept unchanged during the crystallization of anatase at 200–600 °C. The hybrids were applied as a photocatalyst for the decomposition of acetic acid in water under UV irradiation to find the heat treatment over 400 °C led to higher efficiency of the reaction (45–55 μmol h−1 of carbon-dioxide production) over the samples heated at temperatures lower than 300 °C (3–14 μmol h−1 of carbon-dioxide production). Crystallization of well-defined anatase nanoparticles (5 nm) in the mesopore (6 nm) of SBA-15 over 400 °C, results the high photocatalytic activity for decomposition of acetic acid compared with other commercial titanium dioxides.![]()

Abstract
Triclosan, an antibacterial agent, in the environment is of great concern; thus, an efficient method for its removal from an aqueous system is required. Removal of triclosan from water was achieved by an organically modified bentonite, dioctadecyldimethylammonium bentonite. The highest adsorbed amount achieved under the optimized conditions was 1750 mg·g-1, which is higher than that reported using such adsorbents as activated carbons, carbon nanotubes, zeolites, and other nanoporous materials. Complete removal of triclosan was achieved from the aqueous triclosan solution at a concentration 10 mg·L-1 using 3 mg/60 mL of 2C18-BT. The adsorbent was reusable, as examined by washing and reuse of the adsorbent for 5 cycles.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The association of physical activity (PA) intensities and duration spent in those activities with different walking tasks remains unclear. OBJECTIVES To examine the association between the duration of PA intensities and three walking speeds (usual walking speed, maximal walking speed and zig-zag walking speed). DESIGN Multiple linear regression analysis was used to estimate the association of age, BMI, maximum knee extension strength, light PA, moderate PA and vigorous PA with walking speeds. SETTING University lab. PARTICIPANTS Eighty-six older women (67 ± 7 years). MEASUREMENTS PA was measured for 30 consecutive days using the Lifecorder-EX accelerometer. Exercise intensity was categorized as light (levels 1-3), moderate (levels 4-6) and vigorous (levels 7-9) based on the manufacturer algorithms. Usual straight walking speed (20 m), maximal straight walking speed (20 m) and zig-zag walking speed tests (10 m) were performed by each participant. RESULTS For the usual straight walking speed model (R2 = 0.296, SEE = 0.15 m/s), the significant predictors were BMI, knee extension strength, light PA and vigorous PA. For the maximal straight walking speed model (R2 = 0.326, SEE = 0.20 m/s), only age was a significant predictor. For the zig-zag walking speed model (R2=0.417, SEE = 0.14 m/s), age and maximum knee strength were significant predictors in the model. CONCLUSIONS Overall, the results of this study suggest that vigorous PA and maximal knee extension strength are two important factors that are associated with different walking speeds in older women.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION/OBJECTIVES The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) guidelines suggest that pimobendan should be initiated in dogs which meet all criteria of stage B2 myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD): murmur intensity ≥ 3/6, left atrial-to-aortic ratio ≥ 1.6, normalized left ventricular internal diameter in diastole ≥ 1.7, and vertebral heart size > 10.5. Recently, a new radiographic index for left atrial enlargement, vertebral left atrial size (VLAS), was proposed. The objective of the present study was to evaluate whether VLAS is useful in staging MMVD and if it can distinguish between ACVIM stages B1 and B2. ANIMALS Ninety-seven client-owned dogs with MMVD were evaluated and classified as ACVIM stage B1, B2, or C-D. MATERIALS AND METHODS The echocardiographs and radiographs of all the dogs were retrospectively evaluated to obtain left atrial-to-aortic ratio, normalized left ventricular internal diameter in diastole, and VLAS values. The data were analyzed to assess the correlation between these measurements and VLAS, and the optimal cutoff value of VLAS was determined. RESULTS A VLAS cutoff value of 2.6 provided the greatest diagnostic accuracy for identification of dogs with ACVIM stage B2 MMVD (area under the curve, 0.96; sensitivity, 95%; specificity, 84%). A VLAS ≥2.5 exhibited the highest sensitivity (sensitivity, 100%; specificity, 78%), and a VLAS ≥ 3.1 exhibited the highest specificity (sensitivity, 47%; specificity, 100%). CONCLUSIONS VLAS is a helpful index for monitoring MMVD using radiography. A VLAS cutoff value of 2.5 could be used to identify dogs that may benefit from echocardiography to determine if they have reached ACVIM stage B2.

Abstract
Well-defined nanoparticles of rutile (with the size of 5 nm) were successfully prepared by the unusual solid-state transformation of an amorphous precursor in well-defined nanospace of a mesoporous silica template (SBA-15) at room temperature. An aqueous colloidal suspension of the rutile nanoparticles was successfully obtained by dissolution of SBA-15 and subsequent pH adjustment. The isolated rutile nanoparticles were used for H2 evolution from an aqueous methanol solution by UV irradiation.

Abstract
A simple and green approach to exfoliate graphite in water was developed by its reaction with an amino acid, histidine (His), resulting in the spatial expansion of the interlayer space. Subsequent sonication led to few-layered nanosheets of graphene in water. Steered molecular dynamics (MD) simulations revealed that the exfoliating graphene sheet underwent sheered motion before completely scaling off from the other layer.
