Abstract
Sideband holography can be used to get field images (E0 and E1) of a vibrating object for both the carrier (E0) and the sideband (E1) frequency with respect to vibration. Here we propose to record E0 and E1 sequentially and to image the product E1E0* or the correlation 〈E1E0*〉. We show that these quantities are insensitive to the phase related to the object roughness and directly reflect the phase of the mechanical motion. The signal to noise can be improved by averaging E1E0* over a neighbor pixel, yielding 〈E1E0*〉. Experimental validation is made with a vibrating cube of wood and a clarinet reed. At 2 kHz, vibrations of amplitude down to 0.01 nm are detected.

Abstract
Current implementations of fluctuating lattice Boltzmann equations (FLBEs) describe single component fluids. In this paper, a model based on the continuum kinetic Boltzmann equation for describing multicomponent fluids is extended to incorporate the effects of thermal fluctuations. The thus obtained fluctuating Boltzmann equation is first linearized to apply the theory of linear fluctuations, and expressions for the noise covariances are determined by invoking the fluctuation-dissipation theorem directly at the kinetic level. Crucial for our analysis is the projection of the Boltzmann equation onto the orthonormal Hermite basis. By integrating in space and time the fluctuating Boltzmann equation with a discrete number of velocities, the FLBE is obtained for both ideal and nonideal multicomponent fluids. Numerical simulations are specialized to the case where mean-field interactions are introduced on the lattice, indicating a proper thermalization of the system.

Abstract
This study describes the association between tail necrosis in rabbits and mycotoxins in rabbit feed. Clinical cases of tail necrosis were observed in 14 out of 103 rabbits kept in an outdoor group housing, fed with hay and a commercial pelleted feed. The observed clinical symptoms, alopecia, erosions, crusts and necrosis were restricted to the tail area and exclusively occurred in young rabbits aged 113 ± 20 days. Dermatological examination suggested that ischemia had caused necrosis. Analysis of blood samples showed an elevated level of creatine kinase. No weight loss occurred in affected rabbits. Trauma caused by injuries or technopathic lesions was also excluded. Histopathologically, the lesions were characterized by acute muscle fibre degeneration and chronic active dermatitis with granulation tissue formation. Necropsy of one rabbit revealed hepatocellular degeneration and necrosis as remarkable findings. Feed analysis for ergot alkaloids by enzyme immunoassays yielded a mean and maximum ergot alkaloid content of 410 ± 250 μg/kg and 1,700 μg/kg, respectively. Faeces of affected rabbits contained ergot alkaloids at levels up to 200 μg/kg. The mean and maximum dietary intake of total ergot alkaloids were 17 and 71 μg/kg bodyweight, respectively. Fusarium toxins (trichothecenes, zearalenone, fumonisins) were also found in the feed, but at levels which did not explain the observed effects. The results indicate that ergot alkaloids may have been the cause of tail necrosis, which is supported by literature data showing that rabbits are especially sensitive towards these toxins.

Abstract
Sleep disturbed breathing in children, is a general term describing a wide range of respiratory disorders that occur during sleep, ranging from snoring to Obstructive Sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). In recent years, the role of OSAS in a vast range of morbidities has been recognized, namely metabolic, neuro-cognitive and cardio-vascular disorders, thus emphasizing the importance of early detection. The recommended initial treatment for pediatric OSAS consists of surgical removal of adenoids and tonsils. However, today it is clear that there are other factors involved in the etiology of the syndrome. An association is believed to exist between the airway and craniofacial development and vice versa. The structure of the face and jaws has been shown to play an important role in the pathophysiology of OSAS, thus, the orthodontist plays a substantial role in the diagnosis and treatment of these children. Moreover, OSAS is believed to have a direct and indirect effect on oral health. Obstructive Sleep apnea syndrome is also common in adults, but is defined as a separate entity being different in terms of pathophysiology, clinical presentation and treatment. This paper reviews the pathophysiology, diagnosis, clinical implications and available treatment options for pediatric OSAS. Moreover, we will review the impact of the condition on the structures of the face, jaws, mouth and teeth and discuss the dentist's critical role in identifying and treating these problems.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Some recent studies in older, largely white populations suggest that vitamin D, measured by 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D], is important for cognition, but such results may be affected by reverse causation. Measuring 25(OH)D in late middle age before poor cognition affects behavior may provide clearer results. METHODS This was a prospective cohort analysis of 1652 participants (52% white, 48% black) in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) Brain MRI Study. 25(OH)D was measured from serum collected in 1993-1995. Cognition was measured by the delayed word recall test (DWRT), the digit symbol substitution test (DSST) and the word fluency test (WFT). Dementia hospitalization was defined by ICD-9 codes. Adjusted linear, logistic and Cox proportional hazards models were used. RESULTS Mean age of participants was 62 years and 60% were female. Mean 25(OH)D was higher in whites than blacks (25.5 vs. 17.3 ng/ml, P < 0.001). Lower 25(OH)D was not associated with lower baseline scores or with greater DWRT, DSST or WFT decline over a median of 3 or 10 years of follow-up (P > 0.05). Over a median of 16.6 years, there were 145 incident hospitalized dementia cases. Although not statistically significant, lower levels of 25(OH)D were suggestive of an association with increased dementia risk [hazard ratio for lowest versus highest race-specific tertile: whites 1.32 (95% confidence interval 0.69, 2.55); blacks 1.53 (95% confidence interval 0.84, 2.79)]. CONCLUSIONS In contrast to prior studies performed in older white populations, our study of late middle age white and black participants did not find significant associations between lower levels of 25(OH)D with lower cognitive test scores at baseline, change in scores over time or dementia risk.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Bearing in mind the impending evaluation of newborn hearing screening in Germany, this study investigated whether multicenter analysis of the screening results from four German states is possible and to what extent the results meet national quality and outcome criteria. MATERIALS AND METHODS The screening data from 170 hospitals and a total of 533,150 newborns (21 % of all German newborns) from 2009 to 2012 were evaluated according to definite rules and analyzed in terms of averages, as well as over time. RESULTS During the investigated period and averaged over the hospitals, the quality criteria "percentage of screened newborns" (91.4 %) and "percentage requiring further follow-up" (5.0 %), the "day of screening" (day 4), as well as the target parameter "age at diagnosis" (4.8 months) were not met. Steady improvements were observed over time: in the last year of the evaluation, 95.3 % of children were examined; only 4.8 % required follow-up and the age at diagnosis decreased to 4.2 months. On average, 83 % of the babies were screened before day 4. The steady reduction in variance of most of the variables from the participating hospitals indicates continual improvement. CONCLUSION A multicenter analysis of screening data is possible and valid in the case of good quality data.

Abstract
Abstract
Glutamine (Gln) serves as an important source of energy and building blocks for many tumor cells. The first step in Gln utilization is its conversion to glutamate (Glu) by the mitochondrial enzyme glutaminase. CB-839 is a potent, selective, and orally bioavailable inhibitor of both splice variants of glutaminase (KGA and GAC). CB-839 inhibits recombinant GAC with an IC50 of <15 nM. Treatment of the triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cell line MDA-MB-231 in vitro with CB-839 reduced cell viability and suppressed cellular Glu pools with comparable potency (IC50 ∼15 nM). TNBC breast cancer cell lines have been reported to have a heightened dependence on exogenous Gln for growth relative to estrogen receptor (ER) positive cells (Kung et al, 2011). Consistent with this observation, an analysis of 58 breast cancer cell lines in the Cancer Cell Line Encyclopedia revealed that low ER and/or Her2 expression is correlated with high glutaminase expression (particularly the GAC isoform) and low expression of glutamine synthetase (GLUL), an enzyme that converts Glu to Gln. This reciprocal pattern of GAC and GLUL expression suggests that TNBC may be particularly sensitive to glutaminase inhibition. To test this hypothesis, the anti-tumor activity of CB-839 was evaluated on a panel of breast tumor cell lines (n>25) that included a mixture of TNBC and ER/Her2-positive subtypes. The TNBC subtype displayed the greatest sensitivity to CB-839 treatment (IC50s ranging from 5-100 nM) and this sensitivity was correlated with: i) dependence on extracellular Gln for growth (r = 0.83, p<0.0001); ii) GAC (but not KGA) expression (r = -0.76, p<0.0001); iii) glutaminase activity in cell lysates (r = -0.75, p = 0.0002); and iv) the ratio of cellular Glu to Gln (r = 0.53, p = 0.014) indicative of efficient Gln to Glu conversion. CB-839 also displayed significant anti-tumor activity in two TNBC xenograft models: 1) as a single agent in a patient-derived tumor chosen based on Gln utilization biomarkers and 2) in a cell line model (JIMT1) both as a single agent and in combination with paclitaxel. To determine if potential markers of Gln utilization and CB-839 sensitivity are reflected in primary tumors, an analysis of large mRNA expression and metabolomic datasets was undertaken. Consistent with the observations in cell lines, there was significantly elevated expression of GAC and reduced expression of GLUL in TNBC tumors relative to the ER+ population in The Cancer Genome Atlas mRNA expression dataset (n = 756). Likewise, analysis of the metabolite levels in 262 primary breast tumors showed that the Glu to Gln ratio in the ER- populations was significantly elevated relative to the ER+ population (fold increase = 3.2, p = 8.0E-09). This elevated metabolite ratio in the ER- population was also significantly correlated with the mRNA expression level of GLUL (r = -0.27, p = 0.001). These observations suggest that biomarkers of Gln utilization and CB-839 sensitivity extend to primary TNBC tumors. Together with the in vitro and in vivo preclinical anti-tumor activity of CB-839 in TNBC models, this primary tumor biomarker evaluation provides a strong rationale for the clinical investigation of CB-839 as a targeted therapeutic in TNBC patients.

Abstract
Maternal care is the newborn's first experience of social interaction, and this influences infant survival, development and social competences throughout life. We recently found that postpartum blocking of the endocannabinoid receptor-1 (CB1R) altered maternal behaviour. In the present study, maternal care was assessed by the time taken to retrieve pups, pups' ultrasonic vocalisations (USVs) and pup body weight, comparing CB1R deleted (CB1R KO) versus wild-type (WT) mice. After culling on postpartum day 8, hippocampal expression of oxytocin receptor (OXTR), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and stress-mediating factors were evaluated in CB1R KO and WT dams. Comparisons were also performed with nulliparous (NP) CB1R KO and WT mice. Compared to WT, CB1R KO dams were slower to retrieve their pups. Although the body weight of the KO pups did not differ from the weight of WT pups, they emitted fewer USVs. This impairment of the dam-pup relationship correlated with a significant reduction of OXTR mRNA and protein levels among CB1R KO dams compared to WT dams. Furthermore, WT dams exhibited elevated OXTR mRNA expression, as well as increased levels of mineralocorticoid and glucocorticoid receptors, compared to WT NP mice. By contrast, CB1R KO dams showed no such elevation of OXTR expression, alongside lower BDNF and mineralocorticoid receptors, as well as elevated corticotrophin-releasing hormone mRNA levels, when compared to CB1R KO NP. Thus, it appears that the disruption of endocannabinoid signalling by CB1R deletion alters expression of the OXTR, apparently leading to deleterious effects upon maternal behaviour.

Abstract
The design and performance of a multisensory instrument to track physical and chemical changes of thin polymer films (typically 5 μm < thickness < 100 μm) subjected to thermal and mechanical treatments are described in this paper. For the first time, real-time measurements of spectral birefringence, true stress, true strain, and temperature are integrated together with ultra-rapid-scan polarized FT-IR spectrometer (URS-FT-IR) to investigate the relationships between true mechanical measures and structural features at different length scales. The rheo-optical properties (birefringence-true stress-true strain) are collected at a rate of 10 data points∕s and URS-FT-IR data are collected at a rate of 300 complete spectra∕s. The IR dichroism measurement is performed by exposing the sample to non-polarized IR beam in transmission mode with two mutually perpendicular polarizations, parallel and perpendicular to the stretching direction, received by detector unit. This design allows to analyze both polarizations simultaneously wavenumbers in the range of 500 cm(-1)-4000 cm(-1). Controlled processing parameters include air speed, air temperature, stretching rate, stretching ratio, stretch cycling, and holding times; while simultaneously measuring optical retardation, sample width, temperature, load cell, and both parallel and perpendicular IR spectra. Calibration and performance of this instrument is demonstrated with several film samples. These are: A polystyrene standard, an atactic polystyrene (homo-polymer), a polyurethane (consists of hard and soft segments) for physical changes during uniaxial deformation, and a polyamic acid during imidization reaction. This measurement system is particularly useful in unraveling molecular level details of complex physical and chemical events that take place during very fast deformation schemes (uniaxial stretching, retraction, relaxation, annealing, etc.) relevant to industrial processes. These include specific orientation behavior of each phase, block or filler, crystallization, relaxation and orientation state. It is also suited to track reaction rates and products in polymers undergoing thermal or photo curing.

Abstract
We have performed off-axis heterodyne holography with very weak illumination by recording holograms of the object with and without object illumination in the same acquisition run. We have experimentally studied how the reconstructed image signal (with illumination) and noise background (without) scale with the holographic acquisition and reconstruction parameters that are the number of frames and the number of pixels of the reconstruction spatial filter. The first parameter is related to the frequency bandwidth of detection in time, the second one to the bandwidth in space. The signal to background ratio varies roughly like the inverse of the bandwidth in time and space. We have also compared the noise background with the theoretical shot-noise background calculated by Monte Carlo simulation. The experimental and Monte Carlo noise background agree very well with each other.

Abstract
Excessive glutamate release followed by N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) activation plays a crucial role in perinatal brain injury. We have previously shown that dextromethorphan, a low-affinity NMDAR antagonist with anti-inflammatory properties, is neuroprotective against neonatal excitotoxic brain injury. Of interest, dextromethorphan is also a sigma-1 receptor (σ1R) agonist. The pharmacologic class of σ1R agonists has yielded propitious results in various animal models of adult central nervous system pathology. In an established neonatal mouse model of excitotoxic brain injury, we evaluated the effect of the selective σ1R agonist 2-(4-morpholinethyl) 1-phenylcyclohexanecarboxylate (PRE-084). A single intraperitoneal injection of 0.1 μg/g (low dose) or 10 μg/g (high dose) bodyweight (bw) PRE-084, given 1h after the excitotoxic insult, significantly reduced lesion size in cortical gray matter 24 h and 120 h after the insult. Repetitive injections of 0.1 μg/g PRE-084 proved to be equally effective. PRE-084 treatment resulted in a decrease in cell death indicated by reduced TUNEL positivity and caspase-3 activation. Furthermore, it lowered the number of isolectin B4-positive, activated microglial cells. PRE-084 had no effect on developmental apoptosis in the undamaged brain. In vitro findings in primary hippocampal neurons suggest that PRE-084 treatment provides partial protection against glutamate induced morphological and functional changes. For excitotoxicity as playing a crucial role in the pathogenesis of perinatal brain injury, we demonstrate for the first time that systemic treatment with the highly selective σ1R agonist PRE-084 protects against NMDAR-mediated excitotoxic brain damage.

Abstract
We propose here to combine sideband holography with stroboscopic illumination synchronized with the vibration of an object. By sweeping the optical frequency of the reference beam such a way the holographic detection is tuned on the successive sideband harmonic ranks, we are able to image the instantaneous velocities of the object. Since the stroboscopic illumination is made with an electronic device, the method is compatible with fast (up to several MHz) vibration motions. The method is demonstrated with a vibrating clarinet reed excited sinusoidally at 2 kHz, and a stroboscopic illumination with cyclic ratio 0.15. Harmonic rank up to n = ± 100 are detected, and a movie of the instantaneous velocities is reported.

Abstract
A 76-year-old female patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease presented with dyspnea, fever and productive coughing. The chest X-ray revealed upper lobe pneumonia. Intravenous antibiotic therapy with moxifloxacine was initiated but soon afterwards the patient developed septic shock with hypotension, acute respiratory and renal failure. Pressure-controlled ventilation, continuous veno-venous hemodialysis and administration of catecholamines were initiated but the patient died 22 h after hospitalization due to multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. Microbiology of blood cultures revealed Pasteurella multocida which was probably transmitted through close contact with the pet dog.
