Usefulness, Ease of Use, Ease of Learning and Users' Satisfaction of E-Prescription and E-Appointment Systems for Primary Health Care

The purpose of this study is to investigate views of physicians, nurses and administrative personnel working in Primary Health Care (PHC) structures in the Greek regions of Achaia and Attica, on the usefulness, ease of use, ease of learning and users' satisfaction of e-prescription and e-appointment systems. The e-prescription and e-appointment systems we evaluated are developed and hosted by the Greek e-Government Center for Social Security Services (IDIKA S.A.). Data were collected by using Likert-scale questionnaires. Overall, users are satisfied, and they find the studied systems useful, easy to use and learn. Ease of learning of both systems scores the highest score, while users' satisfaction the lowest. Ease of learning of both e-systems is not affected by age, gender, computer skills, and personnel category.

CrowdHEALTH: Big Data Analytics and Holistic Health Records

The aim of this paper is to present examples of big data techniques that can be applied on Holistic Health Records (HHR) in the context of the CrowdHEALTH project. Real-time big data analytics can be performed on the stored data (i.e. HHRs) enabling correlations and extraction of situational factors between laboratory exams, physical activities, biosignals, medical data patterns, and clinical assessment. Based on the outcomes of different analytics (e.g. risk analysis, pathways mining, forecasting and causal analysis) on the aforementioned HHRs datasets, actionable information can be obtained for the development of efficient health plans and public health policies.

Augmented Reality Glasses and Head-Mounted Display Devices in Healthcare

Augmented Realty (AR) technology has a significant contribution in healthcare sector by offering valuable solutions the last two decades. The aim of this paper is to investigate the implementations of Augmented Reality technologies in healthcare, which include wearable devices such as AR Glasses and Optical Head-Mounted Display Devices (OHMD), by searching the international scientific literature. Relevant studies were retrieved online from scientific databases using keywords related to Augmented Reality in healthcare. The results indicate the numerous applications of these technologies in healthcare procedures, like diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation, as well as in the education of healthcare professionals. The international scientific community encourages the usage of the AR wearable technologies like AR glasses in Healthcare.

Health Informatics Scientists' Perception About Big Data Technology

The aim of this paper is to present the perceptions of the Health Informatics Scientists about the Big Data Technology in Healthcare. An empirical study was conducted among 46 scientists to assess their knowledge about the Big Data Technology and their perceptions about using this technology in healthcare. Based on the study findings, 86.7% of the scientists had knowledge of Big data Technology. Furthermore, 59.1% of the scientists believed that Big Data Technology refers to structured data. Additionally, 100% of the population believed that Big Data Technology can be implemented in Healthcare. Finally, the majority does not know any cases of use of Big Data Technology in Greece while 57,8% of the them mentioned that they knew use cases of the Big Data Technology abroad.

The Diffusion of mHealth Applications

The aim of this preliminary study is to present the usage behaviour of mHealth applications. A survey was conducted among 352 Smartphone users; 109 of them had used mHealth applications as well. The usage of these applications seemed to be quite low. Young people had used mHealth applications more than the elders. Also, there was not found a statistically significant relationship between the gender and the usage of mHealth applications.

Investigating the Perceived Innovation of the Big Data Technology in Healthcare

The research aim of this study is to investigate the perceived innovation of the Big Data Technology in Healthcare. A survey was conducted using a theoretical model based on Rogers' Innovation Diffusion Theory, on Davis' Technology Acceptance Model, and relative research work. The results reveal that the Big Data Technology may be an innovation on the field of Health Informatics as it offers a lot of advantages compared to the traditional ways of data handling and processing, and it is compatible with the current technological status on the healthcare domain. Additionally, the current study presents the positive attitude of the Informatics Experts about the usage of the Big Data innovative technology on Health sector.

Do Travellers Accept m-Health Technologies? A Literature Review

A literature review was conducted to present if travellers accept the mobile healthcare (m-Health) technologies. The research was run on international scientific databases using certain keywords to cover the content of the review. From the online search results, 21 publications were selected which combine the "m-Health", "travellers" and "technology acceptance" topics. The majority of the papers are using the Technology Acceptance Model (or a variation of it) on their methodology. Only few papers discuss about the above three topics simultaneously. All of the publications highlight the acceptance of the mobile technologies by their users. Based on this, it can be assumed that travellers may accept the m-Health applications. Further investigation is needed on this subject to give more accurate results.

The "SMART Travel Health" Mobile Application Assessment

An empirical study was conducted to evaluate the users' perception on a pilot mobile application ("SMART Travel Health"), their attitude towards use, and their intention to use it. A theoretical model was constructed based on TAM and other related works. The population was 88 travellers who used the pilot application. Data analysis was performed using partial least squares path modeling. Results highlight the very strong significant effect of perceived ease of use to perceived usefulness, the strong significant effect of perceived usefulness to attitude towards use, as well as, the significant effect of perceived ease of use to attitude towards using the application. Also, the strong significant effect of attitude towards use to behavioral intention to use is presenting the positive perception of the population about this mobile application.

A "Smart" m-health Application for Travelers: The Public's Opinion

This paper describes an empirical study which evaluates the Greek population perceptions on a "Smart" m-health application for Travelers, their attitude towards use, and their intention to use it. Based on TAM, IDT and other research works, a theoretical model was empirically constructed and then validated. The sample was 313 individuals, who most of them travel frequently and using Smartphone. Data analysis was performed using partial least squares path modeling. Results highlight the very strong significant effect of perceived usefulness, relative advantage and compatibility as well as, the significant effect of perceived ease of use to attitude towards using a "Smart" m-health application for Travelers. The study findings reveal also a strong significant effect of attitude towards use to behavioral intention to use showing the need for such m-health applications.

The e-learning programmes in Greek Universities: a literature review

This paper presents an on-line research in Greek universities websites and an international literature review on electronic learning in the field of Health Informatics. The results reveal that there are a lot of e-learning programs offered by universities in Greece, but unfortunately none of them related to Health Informatics domain. On the other hand, the finding of the international literature shows that other European universities conduct e-learning studies in Health Informatics field. Future actions for the enrichment of e-learning service in Greek Health Informatics education are necessary.

How do nursing students perceive the notion of EHR? an empirical investigation

This paper describes an empirical study aiming to assess nursing students' perceptions on Electronic Health Record (EHR) concepts and their potential future attitude towards use. Based on the theoretical ground of Rogers' Innovation Diffusion Theory and other research works, a formulated model was empirically validated among ninety nursing undergraduates. Data analysis was based on partial least squares path modeling. Results highlighted the very strong significant effect of relative advantage and observability as well as the significant effect of perceived ease of use to attitude towards using EHR systems. The study findings are discussed along with limitations and future work in the current field.
