Synthesis of Broad Band Violet-Blue Light-Emitting Core-Shell Cr3+:C-CaIn₂O₄ Nanowires

We developed a simple, effective and green method for synthesis of broad band violet-blue lightemitting core-shell Cr³⁺:C-CaIn²O⁴ nanowires (1-10 mol% of Cr³⁺) using aloe vera nectar. Calcium indate (CaIn²O⁴) is an important wideband gap semiconductor that could be explored for optical doping such as transition metals and/or rare-earths useful to make light-emitters, optical data storage, and other devices. The nectar embeds the cations in a gel so as it controls an ionic conversion Cr⁶⁺ to Cr³⁺ in ambient air. When grafting a carbon layer on surface of Cr³⁺:CaIn²O⁴ crystallites it yields a core-shell structure of tailored dielectric, optical and other properties. Asprepared Cr³⁺:CaIn²O⁴-C exhibits two bands at 270 nm and 360 nm, which got shifted-to at 265 and 370 nm when annealed at higher dosage of Cr³⁺ ions. These are the ligand-to-metal O^2- to Cr³⁺ charge transfer bands. We studied the light-emission properties in analyzing migration, transfer and recombination processes of light-induced e^--h⁺ pairs in detail in correlation to a Cr³⁺:CaIn²O⁴-C core-shell nanostructure.

Urinary EPCR and dermcidin as potential novel biomarkers for severe adult OSA patients

BACKGROUND

Due to low predictive values of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) screening tools, there is a need for biomarker for screening of OSA patients at an early stage. The aim of the study was to evaluate differentially expressed proteins in blood and urine samples of OSA patients.

METHODS

In this study, we used isobaric tagging for relative and absolute quantification (iTRAQ) based proteomics approach to identify differentially expressed proteins, which were subsequently verified and validated using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique in adult OSA patients.

RESULTS

Seventeen differentially expressed proteins were selected from iTRAQ data for verification, based on their clinical significance and reproducibility among different iTRAQ experiment sets. Five of these proteins (plasma = 2; urine = 3) were further validated in plasma (non-OSA- = 42; OSA = 198) and urine samples (non-OSA = 46; OSA = 197). ROC curve analysis for all OSA vs. non-OSA subjects ensured optimal diagnostic utility of two urinary proteins: Endothelial protein c receptor (EPCR) (AUC = 73%, cut-off: 35 pg/ml) and dermcidin (AUC = 74%, cut-off: 4.6 pg/ml). For severe OSA, diagnostic accuracy significantly improved with AUC as 88% and 82% for EPCR (cut-off: 46 pg/ml) and dermcidin (cut-off: 5.2 pg/ml) respectively. Sensitivity and specificity of combined performance of both urinary proteins for severe OSA were 94% and 91% respectively.

CONCLUSION

In this study, urinary EPCR and dermcidin emerged as novel biomarkers for screening severe OSA patients.

The impact of O2/Ar ratio on morphology and functional properties in reactive sputtering of metal oxide thin films

Morphology is a critical parameter for various thin film applications, influencing properties like wetting, catalytic performance and sensing efficiency. In this work, we report on the impact of oxygen partial flow on the morphology of ceramic thin films deposited by pulsed DC reactive magnetron sputtering. The influence of O₂/Ar ratio was studied on three different model systems, namely Al₂O₃, CuO and TiO₂. The availability of oxygen during reactive sputtering is a key parameter for a versatile tailoring of thin film morphology over a broad range of nanostructures. TiO₂ thin films with high photocatalytic performance (up to 95% conversion in 7 h) were prepared, exhibiting a network of nanoscopic cracks between columnar anatase structures. In contrast, amorphous thin films without such crack networks and with high resiliency to crystallization even up to 950 °C were obtained for Al₂O₃. Finally, we report on CuO thin films with well aligned crystalline nanocolumns and outstanding gas sensing performance for volatile organic compounds as well as hydrogen gas, showing gas responses up to 35% and fast response in the range of a few seconds.

Corticosteroid-associated lupus pancreatitis: a case series and systematic review of the literature

BACKGROUND

Acute pancreatitis is an uncommon complication that occurs in 0.85% to 4% of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). In some patients, it occurs within days to weeks of starting medium-to-high dose corticosteroids. The authors have used the term 'corticosteroid-associated lupus pancreatitis' for these patients, and they report a case series and perform a systematic review of previously published reports.

METHODS

For the purpose of this study, corticosteroid-associated lupus pancreatitis was defined as occurrence of acute pancreatitis in patients with SLE (fulfilling the 1997 ACR), within 3 weeks of starting therapy with medium-to-high dose corticosteroids - either newly initiated or escalated from a lower dose. All patients with SLE admitted in the last 2.5 years in a North Indian university hospital were reviewed, and those with pancreatitis who fulfilled the above criteria were included in the case series. For the systematic review, a PUBMED search using the keywords 'lupus' and 'pancreatitis' was performed, and reports in English were reviewed for an association with corticosteroids.

RESULTS

Among 420 admissions of SLE patients, six patients (1.4%) fulfilled criteria for corticosteroid-associated lupus pancreatitis. All were female, with mean age and disease duration of 19.7 ± 3.3 and 3.8 ± 2.5 years respectively. All had active disease and developed acute pancreatitis within 48-72 hours of newly initiating medium-to-high dose corticosteroids (in three patients) or escalating them to medium-high dose (in three patients). After the development of pancreatitis, corticosteroids were continued in all except one patient. In addition, two patients received pulse methylprednisolone, two received pulse cyclophosphamide and one was started on azathioprine. Three patients died during hospitalization, all with severe pancreatitis. On systematic review, among 451 cases of lupus pancreatitis reported, 23 (5%) fulfilled criteria for 'corticosteroid-associated lupus pancreatitis'. A majority of them had pancreatitis within 3 days of starting treatment with medium-to-high dose corticosteroids. The mortality in these patients was 37.5%.

CONCLUSION

In a small but substantial proportion of patients with lupus who develop pancreatitis, it occurs within days to weeks of starting medium-to-high dose corticosteroids. Many of these patients continue to receive corticosteroids, and some receive more aggressive immunosuppression. However, they have significant mortality, and further studies are required to identify appropriate treatment in this subgroup of patients.

Impact of tuberculosis on glycaemic status: A neglected association

Background & objectives

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is an important risk factor for tuberculosis and has received increasing emphasis. However, the reverse association of tuberculosis impacting blood sugar levels has not been well studied. The present study was conducted to evaluate the prevalence of hyperglycemia in patients with tuberculosis and assess its resolution following successful treatment of tuberculosis.

Methods

In this prospective study, a total of 582 patients with tuberculosis were evaluated for hyperglycaemia [DM or impaired glucose tolerance (IGT)] with random blood sugar (RBS) and all patients with RBS >100 mg/dl were subjected to a 75 g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). All patients received thrice weekly intermittent Directly Observed Treatment Short Course (DOTS) for tuberculosis. Patients with hyperglycaemia were re-evaluated at the end of anti-tuberculosis treatment with an OGTT and glycated hemoglobin (HbA_1c) levels to assess for glycaemic status.

Results

In the present study, 41 of the 582 patients were found to have DM [7%, 95% confidence interval (CI) (5.2, 9.4)] while 26 patients were found to have IGT [4.5%, 95% CI (3, 6.5)]. Three patients were lost to follow up. Of the 26 patients with IGT, 17 [65.4%, 95% CI (46.1, 80.7)] reverted to euglycaemic status following successful treatment of tuberculosis, while the blood sugar levels improved in all patients with DM following treatment of tuberculosis.

Interpretation & conclusions

Our study results show that tuberculosis adversely impacts glycaemic status with improvement in blood sugar levels at the end of successful treatment of tuberculosis. Longitudinal studies with large sample size are required to confirm these findings.

Joint Indian Chest Society-National College of Chest Physicians (India) guidelines for spirometry

Although a simple and useful pulmonary function test, spirometry remains underutilized in India. The Indian Chest Society and National College of Chest Physicians (India) jointly supported an expert group to provide recommendations for spirometry in India. Based on a scientific grading of available published evidence, as well as other international recommendations, we propose a consensus statement for planning, performing and interpreting spirometry in a systematic manner across all levels of healthcare in India. We stress the use of standard equipment, and the need for quality control, to optimize testing. Important technical requirements for patient selection, and proper conduct of the vital capacity maneuver, are outlined. A brief algorithm to interpret and report spirometric data using minimal and most important variables is presented. The use of statistically valid lower limits of normality during interpretation is emphasized, and a listing of Indian reference equations is provided for this purpose. Other important issues such as peak expiratory flow, bronchodilator reversibility testing, and technician training are also discussed. We hope that this document will improve use of spirometry in a standardized fashion across diverse settings in India.

Quality of Hypertension Management in Type 2 Diabetes in India: A Multisite Prescription Audit

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE

Renin-angiotensin system (RAS) blockers (angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors ACEI, angiotensin receptor blockers, ARB) are preferred drugs to control hypertension among diabetic patients. To determine frequency of RAS blocker use in hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes, we performed a multisite study in India.

METHODS

We evaluated physician prescriptions in consecutive patients with type 2 diabetes at 9 sites in India. Details of socio-demographic characteristics, clinical findings and prescription medicines were obtained. Descriptive statistics are reported.

RESULTS

Hypertension treatment details were available in 8056 of 8699 diabetic patients (4829 men, 3227 women). No hypertension was in 3300 (40.9%), hypertension in 3625 (45.0%), and hypertension with vascular disease in 1131 (14.0%). In diabetics with no hypertension, hypertension, and hypertension with vascular disease, respectively, prescriptions of antihypertensive drugs was: RAS blockers in 19.4, 48.2 and 58.1%, beta-blockers in 4.8, 31.6 and 38.8%, calcium channel blockers in 0.4, 27.4 and 14.3% and diuretics in 0.6, 36.4 and 17.1%. ACEIs were prescribed more frequently than ARB's in hypertensive diabetics (60.7 vs 39.2%) as well as in diabetics with vascular disease (58.6 vs 41.4%). In diabetics with hypertension (n=3625) prescription of one, two or three antihypertensive drugs was 49.8%, 33.7% and 3.5% while statins were prescribed in 54.1%.

CONCLUSION

Use of RAS blockers (ACEI or ARB) in uncomplicated as well as complicated hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes is sub-optimal. Most of the patients are on one drug and prescription of ≥3 drugs are rare. Statins are prescribed in only a half.

Supply chain partnership assessment of a diabetes clinic

Purpose Diabetes is one of the major healthcare challenges in India. The chronic nature of the disease makes the lifetime cost of the treatment exorbitantly high. The medicine cost contributes a major size of expense in diabetes management. To make healthcare available to poorest of the poor, it is imperative to control the rising cost of diabetes treatment. The earlier research works done in this area focuses more on inventory management techniques to control the cost of healthcare. Less interest is shown in the role of better supply chain partnership (SCP) in reducing the cost of procurement of medicine. The purpose of this paper is to develop and use the SCP assessment framework for a diabetes clinic. The approach is generalized enough to be adopted for other similar organization. Design/methodology/approach This paper adopts self-assessment criteria of the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) business excellence model for analysis of SCP in the supply chain of a private diabetes clinic in Varanasi. The paper uses analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method for calculation of weights of criteria. Findings The EFQM-based framework can be adopted as easy-to-use tool to make an objective assessment of the SCP. The proposed model in the study is a balanced model between enablers and results, which includes multiple assessment dimensions. The supply chain performance score of the diabetes clinic under study was found as the Tool Pusher, which means the effort in direction of SCP is not too good. The organization needs to clearly define the SCP goal and analyze the results to identify the gap areas. Originality/value The study is first of its kind and contributes to the literature by providing non-prescriptive and easy-to-use SCP assessment framework, for chronic disease care. The case study approach provides a procedure for the healthcare organization willing to adopt this approach.

Physico-chemical characteristics and hydrogeological mechanisms in groundwater with special reference to arsenic contamination in Barpeta District, Assam (India)

Deterioration in the groundwater quality is prevalent in many parts of the eastern and north-eastern India; however, little attention has been paid for its assessment. In order to evaluate the groundwater suitability in the north-eastern region of India, this study was carried out in Barpeta District of Assam. The groundwater samples were collected from various locations to represent the overall water quality of the district. Suitability was assessed in terms of its usability for drinking and irrigation. It was found that the groundwater samples are contaminated with high amount of arsenic, which refers that water is unfit for consumption as well as agricultural activities. Hydrogeological studies revealed that regional geological factors might be responsible for excess arsenic concentration in the region. Overall, groundwater quality was found to be alkaline having moderate hardness with high amount of iron, manganese, and lead as well.

Evaluation of multiplex polymerase chain reaction as an alternative to conventional antibiotic sensitivity test

Aim

This study was designed to evaluate the potential of the use of multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) as an alternative to conventional antibiotic sensitivity test.

Materials and Methods

Isolates of Staphylococcus aureus (total = 36) from clinical cases presented to Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex of College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CVAS), Navania, Udaipur, were characterized by morphological, cultural, and biochemical methods. Then, the isolates were further subjected to molecular characterization by PCR targeting S. aureus-specific sequence (107 bp). Phenotypic antibiotic sensitivity pattern was analyzed by Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method against 11 commonly used antibiotics in veterinary medicine in and around Udaipur region. The genotypic antibiotic sensitivity pattern was studied against methicillin, aminoglycosides, and tetracycline targeting the gene mecA, aacA-aphD, and tetK by multiplex PCR.

Results

There was 100% correlation between the phenotype and genotype of aminoglycoside resistance, more than 90% correlation for methicillin resistance, and 58.3% in the case tetracycline resistance.

Conclusion

As there is a good correlation between phenotype and genotype of antibiotic resistance, multiplex PCR can be used as an alternative to the conventional antibiotic susceptibility testing, as it can give a rapid and true prediction of antibiotic sensitivity pattern.

Carbonaceous Species of PM2.5 in Megacity Delhi, India During 2012-2016

Organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) in PM_2.5 were estimated to study the seasonal and inter-annual variability of atmospheric total carbonaceous aerosols (TCA) at an urban site of megacity Delhi, India for 5 years from January, 2012 to December, 2016. The annual average (± standard deviation) concentrations of PM_2.5, OC, EC and TCA were 128 ± 81, 16.6 ± 12.2, 8.4 ± 5.8 and 34.5 ± 25.2 µg m^-3, respectively. During the study, significant seasonal variations in mass concentrations of PM_2.5, OC, EC and TCA were observed with maxima in winter and minima in monsoon seasons. Significant correlations between OC and EC, and OC/EC ratio suggested that vehicular emissions, fossil fuel combustion and biomass burning could be major sources of carbonaceous aerosols of PM_2.5 at the sampling site of Delhi, India.

Comparative Evaluation of a 6MV Flattened Beam and a Flattening Filter Free Beam for Carcinoma of Cervix – IMRT Planning Study

Purpose:

Intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) plan quality, beam on time and integral dose were compared using 6MV FB (Flattened Beam) and FFFB (Flattening filter free beam) for carcinoma of cervix.

Materials and Methods:

Ten patients with stage II–IIIB cervix cancer (Ca.Cx) were retrospectively identified from the department database. Target volume (TV) and organ at risk (OAR) were delineated as per Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) cancer guidelines. Dose prescribed to planning target volume (PTV) was 50.4Gy in 28 fractions. Two plans (6MV FB IMRT and 6MV FFFB IMRT) were generated to achieve 95% of prescription dose to PTV and sparing OAR as per normal tissue guidelines. Numbers of beams and their orientations were the same for all plans. The homogeneity index (HI), conformity index (CI), treatment monitor unit (MU), beam on time (BOT) and non-tumor integral dose (NTID) were chosen for comparison.

Results:

FFFB generated plans were clinically acceptable. There was a statistically significant difference among the FB IMRT and FFFB IMRT plans with respect to CI, HI, D50%, D2% in PTV coverage, bladder V50Gy, MU, mean NTID and non-tumor low dose volume.

Conclusions:

6MV flattened and flattening filter free photon beams produce comparable plans by IMRT. FFF beams allow time efficient treatment delivery and may help reduce the risk of secondary malignances in carcinoma cervix cases.

Unraveling the sub-nanoscopic structure at interphase in a poly(vinyl alcohol)-MOF nanocomposite, and its role in thermo-mechanical properties

A microscopic model of the interfacial region is required to improve understanding of the role of local structure in bulk physical properties in metal organic framework-based polymer nanocomposites. A zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8)-based (loading 2-30 wt%) composite of poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) is studied as a model system to investigate the role of interfacial interaction in molecular packing, glass transition process and tensile properties. Attractive interfacial interaction between the surface of ZIF particles and PVA chains is established by Fourier transform infra red (FTIR) measurements. The morphology of the nanocomposites is characterized using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), showing that aggregation of particles started from 5 wt% of ZIF-8. At low loadings, occurrence of two glass transitions measured using differential scanning calorimetry indicates two spatial zones, viz. interphase and bulk layers, of different packing density in the PVA matrix. With increase in loading, molecular packing throughout the polymer matrix is changed as the interparticle distance and interphase width become comparable. At the highest loading, PVA shows bulk glass transition temperature because of the non-significant volume fraction of interphase resulting from aggregation of ZIF. Molecular packing (free volume structure) of PVA in the nanocomposites is investigated using ortho-positronium lifetime distributions, which show that large vacant spaces are created at the interfacial region leading to a low-density interphase. The existence of a low-density interphase is also supported by bulk-density measurements of the nanocomposites. Tensile testing measurements show a decrease in ductility of the nanocomposites, indicating enhancement in rigidity of polymer chains at the interfacial region because of attractive interfacial interaction. This study indicates that the polymer chain framework at the interfacial region in PVA-MOF nanocomposites can be represented by a rigid but rather open network.

Inter-annual Variation of Ambient Ammonia and Related Trace Gases in Delhi, India

In this study, ambient NH₃, NO, NO₂, CO and SO₂ were measured continuously from February, 2008, to December, 2016. The annual average mixing ratios (mole/mole) of NH₃, NO, NO₂, CO and SO₂ were 17.8 ± 3.4 ppb; 21.2 ± 2.3 ppb, 18.1 ± 3.2 ppb; 1.7 ± 0.3 ppm and 2.0 ± 0.3 ppb, respectively. All the trace gases (NH₃, NO, NO₂, CO and SO₂) showed significant annual variation during the study. A significant increasing trend in mixing ratios of ambient NH₃ and NO₂ were observed at the observational site of Delhi, whereas, increasing trend were recorded in case of NO, CO and NO₂ mixing ratios. The results emphasized that traffic could be one of the significant sources of ambient NH₃ at the urban site of Delhi, as illustrated by positive correlations of NH₃ with traffic related co-pollutants (NO and CO).

Interstitial Lung Disease in India. Results of a Prospective Registry

RATIONALE

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a heterogeneous group of acute and chronic inflammatory and fibrotic lung diseases. Existing ILD registries have had variable findings. Little is known about the clinical profile of ILDs in India.

OBJECTIVES

To characterize new-onset ILDs in India by creating a prospective ILD using multidisciplinary discussion (MDD) to validate diagnoses.

METHODS

Adult patients of Indian origin living in India with new-onset ILD (27 centers, 19 Indian cities, March 2012-June 2015) without malignancy or infection were included. All had connective tissue disease (CTD) serologies, spirometry, and high-resolution computed tomography chest. ILD pattern was defined by high-resolution computed tomography images. Three groups independently made diagnoses after review of clinical data including that from prompted case report forms: local site investigators, ILD experts at the National Data Coordinating Center (NDCC; Jaipur, India) with MDD, and experienced ILD experts at the Center for ILD (CILD; Seattle, WA) with MDD. Cohen's κ was used to assess reliability of interobserver agreement.

MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS

A total of 1,084 patients were recruited. Final diagnosis: hypersensitivity pneumonitis in 47.3% (n = 513; exposure, 48.1% air coolers), CTD-ILD in 13.9%, and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in 13.7%. Cohen's κ: 0.351 site investigator/CILD, 0.519 site investigator/NDCC, and 0.618 NDCC/CILD.

CONCLUSIONS

Hypersensitivity pneumonitis was the most common new-onset ILD in India, followed by CTD-ILD and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis; diagnoses varied between site investigators and CILD experts, emphasizing the value of MDD in ILD diagnosis. Prompted case report forms including environmental exposures in prospective registries will likely provide further insight into the etiology and management of ILD worldwide.

Efficacy and Safety of Mycobacterium indicus pranii as an adjunct therapy in Category II pulmonary tuberculosis in a randomized trial

Prolonged treatment of tuberculosis (TB) often leads to poor compliance, default and relapse, converting primary TB patients into category II TB (Cat IITB) cases, many of whom may convert to multi-drug resistant TB (MDR-TB). We have evaluated the immunotherapeutic potential of Mycobacterium indicus pranii (MIP) as an adjunct to Anti-Tubercular Treatment (ATT) in Cat II pulmonary TB (PTB) patients in a prospective, randomized, double blind, placebo controlled, multicentric clinical trial. 890 sputum smear positive Cat II PTB patients were randomized to receive either six intra-dermal injections (2 + 4) of heat-killed MIP at a dose of 5 × 10⁸ bacilli or placebo once in 2 weeks for 2 months. Sputum smear and culture examinations were performed at different time points. MIP was safe with no adverse effects. While sputum smear conversion did not show any statistically significant difference, significantly higher number of patients (67.1%) in the MIP group achieved sputum culture conversion at fourth week compared to the placebo (57%) group (p = 0.0002), suggesting a role of MIP in clearance of the bacilli. Since live bacteria are the major contributors for sustained incidence of TB, the potential of MIP in clearance of the bacilli has far reaching implications in controlling the spread of the disease.

A novel nanohybrid for cancer theranostics: folate sensitized Fe2O3 nanoparticles for colorectal cancer diagnosis and photodynamic therapy

Organic-inorganic nanohybrids are becoming popular for their potential biological applications, including diagnosis and treatment of cancerous cells. The motive of this study is to synthesise a nanohybrid for the diagnosis and therapy of colorectal cancer. Here we have developed a facile and cost-effective synthesis of folic acid (FA) templated Fe₂O₃ nanoparticles with excellent colloidal stability in water using a hydrothermal method for the theranostics applications. The attachment of FA to Fe₂O₃ was confirmed using various spectroscopic techniques including FTIR and picosecond resolved fluorescence studies. The nanohybrid (FA-Fe₂O₃) is a combination of two nontoxic ingredients FA and Fe₂O₃, showing remarkable photodynamic therapeutic (PDT) activity in human colorectal carcinoma cell lines (HCT 116) via generation of intracellular ROS. The light induced enhanced ROS activity of the nanohybrid causes significant nuclear DNA damage, as confirmed from the comet assay. Assessment of p53, Bax, Bcl2, cytochrome c (cyt c) protein expression and caspase 9/3 activity provides vivid evidence for cell death via an apoptotic pathway. In vitro magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) experiments in folate receptor (FR) overexpressed cancer cells (HCT 116) and FR deficient human embryonic kidney cells (HEK 293) reveal the target specificity of the nanohybrid towards cancer cells, and are thus pronounced MRI contrasting agents for the diagnosis of colorectal cancer.

Genetic polymorphisms of N-acetyltransferase 2 & susceptibility to antituberculosis drug-induced hepatotoxicity

Background & objectives:

The N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2) gene encodes an enzyme which both activates and deactivates arylamine and other drugs and carcinogens. This study was aimed to investigate the role of NAT2 gene polymorphism in anti-tuberculosis drug-induced hepatotoxicity (DIH).

Methods:

In this prospective study, polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism results for NAT2 gene were compared between 185 tuberculosis patients who did not develop DIH and 105 tuberculosis patients who developed DIH while on anti-tuberculosis drugs.

Results:

Frequency of slow-acetylator genotype was commonly encountered and was not significantly different between DIH (82.8%) and non-DIH (77.2%) patients. However, the genotypic distribution of variant NAT2*5/*7 amongst slow-acetylator genotypes was significantly higher in DIH (56%) group as compared to non-DIH (39%) group (odds ratio 2.02; P=0.006).

Interpretation & conclusions:

The present study demonstrated no association between NAT2 genotype and DIH in the north Indian patients with tuberculosis.
