Abstract
To develop a metal-free biochar with high and inherent catalytic activity towards refractory and highly toxic contaminants in advanced oxidation processes, it is necessary to explore its reaction pathways and responsible catalytic sites. Herein, a metal-free biochar derived from corn cob (CCBC) was prepared and used for reaction pathway analysis during peroxydisulfate (PDS) activation. The pyrolysis temperature played an important role for regulating the biochar structure and properties, and CCBC obtained at 800 °C showed the best adsorption capacity and catalytic activity towards five typical organic pollutants, including 2, 4-dichlorophenol, Tetracycline hydrochloride, Ciprofloxacin, Methyl orange and Rhodamine B, due to its richer pore and defect structure. Further treatment of pharmaceutical wastewater demonstrated the good efficiency and potential of this metal-free catalyst for practical application. Radical (58% contribution) and non-radical (42% contribution) pathways were both found in CCBC/PDS system. More importantly, further redox experiments manifested that the carbon framework (defects, sp2-hybrid carbon, etc.) only made a contribution to the free radical pathway, while the ketone group (CO) of CCBC was proved to be mainly responsible for the non-radical pathway, namely the generation of singlet oxygen (1O2).

Impact of macrophage infiltration in patients with st-segment elevation myocardial infarction caused by plaque erosion: an in vivo optical coherence tomography study. Eur Heart J 2020. Abstract
Abstract
Background
Chronic inflammatory infiltration is a common process for atherosclerosis development. However, autopsy studies reveal that incidence rate of inflammatory infiltrates are less abundant in plaque erosion compared with plaque rupture.
Purpose
Studies performed by optical coherence tomography (OCT) have allowed to establish the severity of plaque inflammation by assessing macrophage infiltration (MØI). In this study, we aimed at assessing the impaction of MØI in plaque erosion among patients with STEMI by using OCT.
Methods
A total of 1561 patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarctions (STEMI) who underwent OCT imaging were enrolled in this study. According to the exclusion criteria, 312 patients with STEMI exhibiting plaque erosion were classified as MØI or no MØI.
Results
163 (52.2%) patients had MØI at the site of plaque erosion, whereas 149 (47.8%) patients had no evidence of MØI and patients of MØI group were significantly older (P=0.015). The result of angiography showed the prevalence of multi-vessel disease appeared more frequency (P=0.021) and diameter stenosis% were higher (P=0.031) in MØI group. OCT results showed the minimum fibrous-cap thickness was thinner (P<0.001) and the maximum lipid arc was larger (P=0.005) in MØI group. Some patients underwent imaging follow-up at 1 year. There was no significant difference in the culprit plaque morphology progress among two groups (Figure 1A-1D).
Conclusions
This study demonstrated that plaque inflammation can increase culprit lesion severity and plaque vulnerability in patients with STEMI caused by plaque erosion.

Exogenous 6-benzyladenine application affects root morphology by altering hormone status and gene expression of developing lateral roots in Malus hupehensis. Abstract
Malus hupehensis is an extensively used apple rootstock in China. In the current study, M. hupehensis seedlings were treated with exogenous 2.2 µm 6-benzyladenine (6-BA) so as to investigate the mechanism by which 6-BA affects lateral root development. The results indicate that 6-BA treatment promotes elongation and thickening of both root and shoot in M. hupehensis, but reduces the number of lateral roots, as well as reducing the auxin level after 6-BA treatment. Moreover, MhAHK4, MhRR1 and MhRR2 were also significantly up-regulated in response to 6-BA treatment. Expression levels of auxin synthesis- and transport-related genes, such as MhYUCCA6, MhYUCCA10, MhPIN1 and MhPIN2, were down-regulated, which corresponds with lower auxin levels in the 6-BA-treated seedlings. A negative regulator of auxin, MhIAA3, was induced by 6-BA treatment, leading to reduced expression of MhARF7 and MhARF19 in 6-BA-treated seedlings. As a result, expression of MhWOX11, MhWOX5, MhLBD16 and MhLBD29 was blocked, which in turn inhibited lateral root initiation. In addition, a lower auxin level decreased expression of MhRR7 and MhRR15, which repressed expression of key transcription factors associated with root development, thus inhibiting lateral root development. In contrast, 6-BA treatment promoted secondary growth (thickening) of the root by inducing expression of MhCYCD3;1 and MhCYCD3;2. Collectively, the changes in hormone levels and gene expression resulted in a reduced number of lateral roots and thicker roots in 6-BA-treated plants.

Abstract
In this Letter, we report the first measurement of the inelastic cross section for antideuteron-nucleus interactions at low particle momenta, covering a range of 0.3≤p<4 GeV/c. The measurement is carried out using p-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon pair of sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV, recorded with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC and utilizing the detector material as an absorber for antideuterons and antiprotons. The extracted raw primary antiparticle-to-particle ratios are compared to the results from detailed ALICE simulations based on the geant4 toolkit for the propagation of (anti)particles through the detector material. The analysis of the raw primary (anti)proton spectra serves as a benchmark for this study, since their hadronic interaction cross sections are well constrained experimentally. The first measurement of the inelastic cross section for antideuteron-nucleus interactions averaged over the ALICE detector material with atomic mass numbers ⟨A⟩=17.4 and 31.8 is obtained. The measured inelastic cross section points to a possible excess with respect to the Glauber model parametrization used in geant4 in the lowest momentum interval of 0.3≤p<0.47 GeV/c up to a factor 2.1. This result is relevant for the understanding of antimatter propagation and the contributions to antinuclei production from cosmic ray interactions within the interstellar medium. In addition, the momentum range covered by this measurement is of particular importance to evaluate signal predictions for indirect dark-matter searches.

Abstract
As mitigation of brain aging continues to be a key public health priority, a wholistic and comprehensive consideration of the aging body has identified immunosenescence as a potential contributor to age-related brain injury and disease. Importantly, the nervous and immune systems engage in bidirectional communication and can exert profound influence on each other. Emerging evidence supports numerous impacts of innate, inflammatory immune responses and adaptive T cell-mediated immunity in neurological function and diseased or injured brain states, such as stroke. Indeed, a growing body of evidence supports key impacts of brain-resident immune cell activation and peripheral immune infiltration in both the post-stroke acute injury phase and the long-term recovery period. As such, modulation of the immune system is an attractive strategy for novel therapeutic interventions for a devastating age-related brain injury for which there are few readily available neuroprotective treatments or neurorestorative approaches. However, the role of B cells in the context of brain function, and specifically in response to stroke, has not been thoroughly elucidated and remains controversial, leaving our understanding of neuroimmune interactions incomplete. Importantly, emerging evidence suggests that B cells are not pathogenic contributors to stroke injury, and in fact may facilitate functional recovery, supporting their potential value as novel therapeutic targets. By summarizing the current knowledge of the role of B cells in stroke pathology and recovery and interpreting their role in the context of their interactions with other immune cells as well as the immunosenescence cascades that alter their function in aged populations, this review supports an increased understanding of the complex interplay between the nervous and immune systems in the context of brain aging, injury, and disease.

Clinical characteristics and genotype-phenotype correlations of 130 Chinese children in a high-homogeneity single-center cohort with 5α-reductase 2 deficiency. Mol Genet Genomic Med 2020; 8:e1431. Abstract
Background Patients with steroid 5α‐reductase 2 deficiency (5α‐RD) caused by SRD5A2 (OMIM #607306) variants present variable genotypes and phenotypes. The genotype‐phenotype correlations remain unclear. Methods We investigated genotype‐phenotype correlations of SRD5A2 variants in a large Chinese single‐center cohort. Phenotypes were categorized using the external masculinization score (EMS), urethral meatus and gonad position, and penile length‐standard deviation score. Results Of the 130 included patients, 113 had hypospadias, and 17 had a normal urethral meatus position. Testosterone/dihydrotestosterone (T/DHT) values were not significantly associated with phenotypic severity (p = 0.539–0.989). Of the 31 SRD5A2 variants, including 10 novel variants, p.R227Q was the most prevalent (39.62%), followed by p.Q6* (16.92%), p.R246Q (13.46%), and p.G203S (10.38%). Compared to biallelic missense mutations, biallelic nonsense mutations were associated with a lower EMS and urethral meatus score (p = 0.009 and p = 0.024, respectively). Patients homozygous for p.R227Q exhibited mild and variable phenotypes, while those homozygous for p.Q6*, p.R246Q, or p.G203S showed consistently severe phenotypes. The phenotypes were variable and milder in patients with compound heterozygosity for p.R227Q and these mutations. Conclusion T/DHT does not predict phenotype severity. The most prevalent SRD5A2 variant in Han Chinese is p.R227Q, which is associated with milder phenotypes and greater phenotypic variability. SRD5A2 variants may significantly influence phenotypic variation.

Probing the Effects of Strong Electromagnetic Fields with Charge-Dependent Directed Flow in Pb-Pb Collisions at the LHC. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2020; 125:022301. Abstract
The first measurement at the LHC of charge-dependent directed flow (v_{1}) relative to the spectator plane is presented for Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. Results are reported for charged hadrons and D^{0} mesons for the transverse momentum intervals p_{T}>0.2 GeV/c and 3<p_{T}<6 GeV/c in the 5%-40% and 10%-40% centrality classes, respectively. The difference between the positively and negatively charged hadron v_{1} has a positive slope as a function of pseudorapidity η, dΔv_{1}/dη=[1.68±0.49(stat)±0.41(syst)]×10^{-4}. The same measurement for D^{0} and D[over ¯]^{0} mesons yields a positive value dΔv_{1}/dη=[4.9±1.7(stat)±0.6(syst)]×10^{-1}, which is about 3 orders of magnitude larger than the one of the charged hadrons. These measurements can provide new insights into the effects of the strong electromagnetic field and the initial tilt of matter created in noncentral heavy ion collisions on the dynamics of light (u, d, and s) and heavy (c) quarks. The large difference between the observed Δv_{1} of charged hadrons and D^{0} mesons may reflect different sensitivity of the charm and light quarks to the early time dynamics of a heavy ion collision. These observations challenge some recent theoretical calculations, which predicted a negative and an order of magnitude smaller value of dΔv_{1}/dη for both light flavor and charmed hadrons.

Abstract
The first evidence of spin alignment of vector mesons (K^{*0} and ϕ) in heavy-ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is reported. The spin density matrix element ρ_{00} is measured at midrapidity (|y|<0.5) in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy (sqrt[s_{NN}]) of 2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector. ρ_{00} values are found to be less than 1/3 (1/3 implies no spin alignment) at low transverse momentum (p_{T}<2 GeV/c) for K^{*0} and ϕ at a level of 3σ and 2σ, respectively. No significant spin alignment is observed for the K_{S}^{0} meson (spin=0) in Pb-Pb collisions and for the vector mesons in pp collisions. The measured spin alignment is unexpectedly large but qualitatively consistent with the expectation from models which attribute it to a polarization of quarks in the presence of angular momentum in heavy-ion collisions and a subsequent hadronization by the process of recombination.

Abstract
Semiconductor photocatalysis is a promising technology to tackle refractory antibiotics contamination in water. Herein, a facile in situ growth strategy is developed to implant single-atom cobalt in polymeric carbon nitride (pCN) via the bidentate ligand for efficient photocatalytic degradation of oxytetracycline (OTC). The atomic characterizations indicate that single-atom cobalt is successfully anchored on pCN by covalently forming the CoO bond and CoN bond, which will strengthen the interaction between single-atom cobalt and pCN. This single-atom cobalt can efficiently expand optical absorption, increase electron density, facilitate charge separation and transfer, and promote OTC degradation. As the optimal sample, Co(1.28%)pCN presents an outstanding apparent rate constant for OTC degradation (0.038 min-1 ) under visible light irradiation, which is about 3.7 times than that of the pristine pCN. The electron spin resonance (ESR) tests and reactive species trapping experiments demonstrate that the 1 O2 , h+ , •O2- , and •OH are responsible for OTC degradation. This work develops a new way to construct single-atom-modified pCN and provides a green and highly efficient strategy for refractory antibiotics removal.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the current status of duplicated reporting of brucellosis in China during 2005-2017, to understand the impact of duplicated reporting on the incidence of brucellosis, analyze the possible causes of duplicated reporting, and put forward propose solutions to further improve the brucellosis surveillance data quality. Methods: Data were from brucellosis case reporting cards in National Notifiable Disease Report System (NNDRS), Excel 2010 software was used to establish the database, the duplicated reporting was identified by using Spark DataFrame aggregation analysis in Python 3.2. Results: During 2005-2017, a total of 499 577 cases of brucellosis were reported, but the duplicated reporting rate was 75.76/10 000 (3 785/499 577). The duplicated reporting rate in same year was 37.21/10 000 (1 859/499 577), the duplicated reporting rate in other year was 39.87/10 000 (1 992/499 577) and the overall duplicated reporting rate increased year by year. The duplicated reporting rate in same institution was 33.59% (1 271/3 785) and the duplicated reporting rate by other institutions was 66.41% (2 514/3 785). Hospitals had the highest number of duplicated reporting (2 757), and community healthcare centers had the highest of duplicated reporting rate (281.27/10 000) (123/4 373). The reported incidence of brucellosis was 2.926 4/100 000 in 2017, the corrected incidence was 2.844 8/100 000 after removing the duplicated reporting, which was the maximum decrease from 2005 to 2017, the corrected incidence decreased by 2.79%. From 2005 to 2017, the average reported incidence of brucellosis in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region was 14.712 0/100 000, and the corrected incidence was 14.060 0/100 000 after removing the duplicate reporting, with a decrease by 4.43%, the biggest decline in China. The average reported incidence of brucellosis in Ningxia Hui autonomous region was 13.987 1/100 000, and the corrected incidence of brucellosis was 13.662 2/100 000, with a decrease of 2.32%, ranking second in China. The reasons for duplicated reporting of brucellosis included repeated medical care seeking in same or different medical institutions in same year or other year, including the repeated medical care seeking in other areas. Conclusions: During 2005-2017, the number of duplicated reporting of brucellosis cases was on the rise in China. Hospital and community health service centers had highest case number and rate of duplicate reporting respectively, the duplicated reporting was mainly caused by re-reporting by other institutions or in other years. The duplicated reporting of brucellosis had greatly affected the accuracy of surveillance data of brucellosis in some provinces, such as Xinjiang and Ningxia. It is recommended to further strengthen brucellosis reporting management, improve data quality of NNDRS.

Molecular genetic analysis in 21 Chinese families with congenital insensitivity to pain with or without anhidrosis. Eur J Neurol 2020; 27:1697-1705. Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathies (HSANs) are a group of clinically and genetically heterogeneous neurological disorders characterized by sensory dysfunctions. Here, 21 affected Chinese families are reported, including 19 with congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis (CIPA; namely HSAN IV) and two with congenital insensitivity to pain (CIP; namely HSAN IID) caused by biallelic variations in NTRK1 and SCN9A, respectively, aiming to identify causative variants in these families and compare how different variants in NTRK1 affect the function of tropomyosin receptor kinase A (TrkA). METHODS Recombinant plasmids harboring the wild-type and six mutant alleles (p.Gln216*, p.Glu584Lys, p.Leu595Arg, p.Pro684Leu, p.Val709Leu and p.Arg765Cys) of NTRK1 cDNA were constructed and transfected into HEK293 cells. RESULTS The results suggested that the five missense variants only presented a subtle influence on the expression level and glycosylation of TrkA but compromised the receptor phosphorylation. Our findings also suggested that a synonymous variant c.219C>T in NTRK1 may cause aberrant splicing, indicating a potential novel pathogenic mechanism of CIPA. Furthermore, gross deletion of SCN9A was first associated with CIP. CONCLUSIONS This study identified multiple forms of variants responsible for CIPA/CIP in the Chinese population and might provide new insights into the pathogenesis of CIPA.

Porphyromonas gingivalis Promotes Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma Progression in an Immune Microenvironment. J Dent Res 2020; 99:666-675. Abstract
Increasing evidence has revealed a significant association between microorganisms and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Porphyromonas gingivalis, the keystone pathogen in chronic periodontitis, is considered an important potential etiologic agent of OSCC, but the underlying immune mechanisms through which P. gingivalis mediates tumor progression of the oral cancer remain poorly understood. Our cohort study showed that the localization of P. gingivalis in tumor tissues was related to poor survival of patients with OSCC. Moreover, P. gingivalis infection increased oral lesion multiplicity and size and promoted tumor progression in a 4-nitroquinoline-1 oxide (4NQO)–induced carcinogenesis mouse model by invading the oral lesions. In addition, CD11b+ myeloid cells and myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) showed increased infiltration of oral lesions. Furthermore, in vitro observations showed that MDSCs accumulated when human-derived dysplastic oral keratinocytes (DOKs) were exposed to P. gingivalis, and CXCL2, CCL2, interleukin (IL)–6, and IL-8 may be potential candidate genes that facilitate the recruitment of MDSCs. Taken together, our findings suggest that P. gingivalis promotes tumor progression by generating a cancer-promoting microenvironment, indicating a close relationship among P. gingivalis, tumor progression of the oral cancer, and immune responses.

Abstract
The study of the strength and behavior of the antikaon-nucleon (K[over ¯]N) interaction constitutes one of the key focuses of the strangeness sector in low-energy quantum chromodynamics (QCD). In this Letter a unique high-precision measurement of the strong interaction between kaons and protons, close and above the kinematic threshold, is presented. The femtoscopic measurements of the correlation function at low pair-frame relative momentum of (K^{+}p⊕K^{-}p[over ¯]) and (K^{-}p⊕K^{+}p[over ¯]) pairs measured in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=5, 7, and 13 TeV are reported. A structure observed around a relative momentum of 58 MeV/c in the measured correlation function of (K^{-}p⊕K^{+}p[over ¯]) with a significance of 4.4σ constitutes the first experimental evidence for the opening of the (K[over ¯]^{0}n⊕K^{0}n[over ¯]) isospin breaking channel due to the mass difference between charged and neutral kaons. The measured correlation functions have been compared to Jülich and Kyoto models in addition to the Coulomb potential. The high-precision data at low relative momenta presented in this work prove femtoscopy to be a powerful complementary tool to scattering experiments and provide new constraints above the K[over ¯]N threshold for low-energy QCD chiral models.

Abstract
Mutations in PHEX cause X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH), a form of hypophosphatemic rickets. Hyp (Phex mutant) mice recapitulate the XLH phenotype. Dental disorders are prevalent in individuals with XLH; however, underlying dentoalveolar defects remain incompletely understood. We analyzed Hyp mouse dentoalveolar defects at 42 and 90 d postnatal to comparatively define effects of XLH on dental formation and function. Phex mRNA was expressed by odontoblasts (dentin), osteocytes (bone), and cementocytes (cellular cementum) in wild-type (WT) mice. Enamel density was unaffected, though enamel volume was significantly reduced in Hyp mice. Dentin defects in Hyp molars were indicated histologically by wide predentin, thin dentin, and extensive interglobular dentin, confirming micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) findings of reduced dentin volume and density. Acellular cementum was thin and showed periodontal ligament detachment. Mechanical testing indicated dramatically altered periodontal mechanical properties in Hyp versus WT mice. Hyp mandibles demonstrated expanded alveolar bone with accumulation of osteoid, and micro-CT confirmed decreased bone volume fraction and alveolar bone density. Cellular cementum area was significantly increased in Hyp versus WT molars owing to accumulation of hypomineralized cementoid. Histology, scanning electron microscopy, and nanoindentation revealed hypomineralized "halos" surrounding Hyp cementocyte and osteocyte lacunae. Three-dimensional micro-CT analyses confirmed larger cementocyte/osteocyte lacunae and significantly reduced perilacunar mineral density. While long bone and alveolar bone osteocytes in Hyp mice overexpressed fibroblast growth factor 23 (Fgf23), its expression in molars was much lower, with cementocyte Fgf23 expression particularly low. Expression and distribution of other selected markers were disturbed in Hyp versus WT long bone, alveolar bone, and cementum, including osteocyte/cementocyte marker dentin matrix protein 1 (Dmp1). This study reports for the first time a quantitative analysis of the Hyp mouse dentoalveolar phenotype, including all mineralized tissues. Novel insights into cellular cementum provide evidence for a role for cementocytes in perilacunar mineralization and cementum biology.

Abstract
Background Antley-Bixler syndrome (ABS) caused by P450 oxidoreductase deficiency (PORD) is a congenital adrenal hyperplasia with skeletal malformations and disordered sex development in both sexes. There have been no reports of ABS caused by PORD in Chinese children. Methods We described the clinical and genetic characteristics of eight Chinese children with ABS caused by PORD and compared them with those of subjects in previous studies. Results Eight patients, aged 6 months–17.8 years, showed strikingly similar craniofacial malformations. We first described four unreported features: lower eyelid fat pads (4/8), prominent lower eyelid-zygoma transverse line (4/8), underdeveloped or absent antihelix (5/8) and single earlobe crease (5/8). Five 46, XY patients presented various degrees of undervirilization, while three 46, XX cases showed masculinization. Basal endocrine measurements revealed the following consistent results: normal cortisol; elevated adrenocorticotropic hormone, progesterone, pregnenolone, 17-hydroxypropgesterone, and corticosterone; and decreased or normal testosterone/oestradiol. We identified three previously reported variants and four novel variants (c.51719_51710delGGCCCCTGTGinsC, p.D210G, p.Y248X and p.R554X) of POR. The most prevalent variant was p.R457H (8/16). The hydrocortisone dosages of patients differed because of variable degrees of adrenal insufficiency. Conclusions We described novel phenotypes and genotypes of ABS caused by PORD. The variant p.R457H was the most prevalent in this cohort. All subjects had combined characteristics of 17-hydroxylase and 21-hydroxylase deficiency. Steroid replacement therapy for patients with PORD requires individually tailored dosing.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the survival time of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) patients and the influential factors in Wuhan. Methods: The relevant information were collected from TB management information system, cause of death reporting system and medical records by trained doctors. The univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards model were applied to analyze the factors affecting survival time of patients. Results: A total of 552 patients with MDR-TB were included in the analysis. After the diagnosis of MDR-TB, the cumulative survival rates from the first year to the third year were 0.94, 0.88, and 0.80, respectively. The mortality density of MDR-TB patients was 6.52/100 person-years, and the median survival time was (89.52±1.85) months. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that the cumulative survival rate of the standardized treatment group was significantly higher than that of the non-standardized treatment group (Log rank=101.070, P<0.001). Compared with the patients aged <30 years, the HR of the patients aged 30-years and ≥60 years were 2.987 (95%CI: 1.268-7.036), 4.957 (95%CI: 1.942-12.653). Compared with the patients with the education level of high school and above, the HR of the patients with education level of junior high school/primary school and below were 1.908 (95%CI: 1.152-3.160), 1.681(95%CI: 1.033-2.735). Compared with the patients without diabetes, the HR of the patients with diabetes was 1.961(95%CI: 1.347-2.854). Compared with the patients without other serious diseases, the HR of the patients with other serious diseases was 2.597 (95%CI: 1.820-3.706). Compared with the patients who had been treated less than one time, the HR of the patients having previous treatment with more than 2 times was 1.611 (95%CI: 1.077-2.409). Compared with patients receiving standard MDR regimen treatment, the HR of the patients receiving no standard MDR regimen treatment was 3.155 (95%CI: 2.132-4.670). Conclusions: The cumulative survival rate of MDR-TB patients without standard treatment was significantly lower than that of patients with standard treatment. Older age, low educational level, diabetes mellitus, other serious diseases, more than two times treatment in the past, and receiving no multi-drug resistance regimen treatment were the risk factors affecting the survival of MDR-TB patients.

Features and clinical significance of the ossification centres in the odontoid process based on micro-computed tomography. Folia Morphol (Warsz) 2019; 79:845-850. [PMID: 31802474 DOI: 10.5603/fm.a2019.0130] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 11/19/2019] [Accepted: 11/21/2019] [Indexed: 11/25/2022]
Abstract
BACKGROUND Microscopic structures of the ossification centres of the odontoid process were studied from the micro-computed tomography (CT) images of the axis, and the potential influence of the ossification centres with different microscopic structures on odontoid process fractures was analysed. MATERIALS AND METHODS Eighteen odontoid process specimens were randomly collected and scanned by micro-CT. The obtained images were then input into the software for further observation and measurement. Incomplete absorption of the ossification centres in the base was observed, along with the anatomic structure of the regions with incomplete ossification and structural parameters of the trabecular bones. RESULTS The microscopic structures of the trabecular bones in the ossification centres in the base of the odontoid process could be clearly visualised from the micro-CT images. Among the 18 odontoid process specimens, 11 specimens were found with incomplete absorption of the ossification centres in the axis, the prevalence reaching up to 61%. Regions with incomplete ossification varied in size and morphology, and their three-dimensional morphology was predominantly oval. Of all structural parameters examined for the trabecular bones, there were only significant differences in the degree of anisotropy between the regions with incomplete absorption of ossification centres and the average vertebral trabecular bones (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Incomplete absorption of the ossification centres in the base of the odontoid process is a relatively prevalent condition. The cavitation effect of the trabecular bones may be the primary cause for odontoid process fractures.

Abstract
The first measurement of the ϒ(1S) elliptic flow coefficient (v_{2}) is performed at forward rapidity (2.5<y<4) in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The results are obtained with the scalar product method and are reported as a function of transverse momentum (p_{T}) up to 15 GeV/c in the 5%-60% centrality interval. The measured ϒ(1S)v_{2} is consistent with 0 and with the small positive values predicted by transport models within uncertainties. The v_{2} coefficient in 2<p_{T}<15 GeV/c is lower than that of inclusive J/ψ mesons in the same p_{T} interval by 2.6 standard deviations. These results, combined with earlier suppression measurements, are in agreement with a scenario in which the ϒ(1S) production in Pb-Pb collisions at LHC energies is dominated by dissociation limited to the early stage of the collision, whereas in the J/ψ case there is substantial experimental evidence of an additional regeneration component.

Abstract
Identification and quantification of the surface sites on Pt nanoparticles are essential for developing more active electrocatalysts for many practical devices such as fuel cells and electrochemical fuel generators. In this work, we studied CO adsorption from dissolved CO in an H2SO4 electrolyte solution on a polycrystalline Pt film electrode held at a constant potential in the underpotential hydrogen deposition region using in situ attenuated total reflectance-surface-enhanced IR absorption spectroscopy (ATR-SEIRAS). Slowing down the adsorption rate by limiting the CO addition rate to the solution allows the individual CO molecules arriving at the Pt surface to rearrange, move to, and occupy their most energetically favorable sites. By using ATR-SEIRAS spectroscopy to follow the stepwise CO adsorption process, one can identify and quantify the Pt surface sites along with uncovering the CO adsorption energetic sequence. This method of slow CO adsorption on the Pt surface is analogous to the chemical titrations used for quantitative chemical analyses.

Investigations of Anisotropic Flow Using Multiparticle Azimuthal Correlations in pp, p-Pb, Xe-Xe, and Pb-Pb Collisions at the LHC. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2019; 123:142301. Abstract
Measurements of anisotropic flow coefficients (v_{n}) and their cross-correlations using two- and multiparticle cumulant methods are reported in collisions of pp at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, p-Pb at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV, Xe-Xe at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.44 TeV, and Pb-Pb at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV recorded with the ALICE detector. The multiplicity dependence of v_{n} is studied in a very wide range from 20 to 3000 particles produced in the midrapidity region |η|<0.8 for the transverse momentum range 0.2<p_{T}<3.0 GeV/c. An ordering of the coefficients v_{2}>v_{3}>v_{4} is found in pp and p-Pb collisions, similar to that seen in large collision systems, while a weak v_{2} multiplicity dependence is observed relative to nucleus-nucleus collisions in the same multiplicity range. Using a novel subevent method, v_{2} measured with four-particle cumulants is found to be compatible with that from six-particle cumulants in pp and p-Pb collisions. The magnitude of the correlation between v_{n}^{2} and v_{m}^{2}, evaluated with the symmetric cumulants SC(m,n) is observed to be positive at all multiplicities for v_{2} and v_{4}, while for v_{2} and v_{3} it is negative and changes sign for multiplicities below 100, which may indicate a different v_{n} fluctuation pattern in this multiplicity range. The observed long-range multiparticle azimuthal correlations in high multiplicity pp and p-Pb collisions can neither be described by pythia 8 nor by impact-parameter-Glasma, music, and ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics model calculations, and hence, provide new insights into the understanding of collective effects in small collision systems.
