Abstract
According to first-principle lattice QCD calculations, the transition from quark-gluon plasma to hadronic matter is a smooth crossover in the region μ_{B}≤T_{c}. In this range the ratio, C_{6}/C_{2}, of net-baryon distributions are predicted to be negative. In this Letter, we report the first measurement of the midrapidity net-proton C_{6}/C_{2} from 27, 54.4, and 200 GeV Au+Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The dependence on collision centrality and kinematic acceptance in (p_{T}, y) are analyzed. While for 27 and 54.4 GeV collisions the C_{6}/C_{2} values are close to zero within uncertainties, it is observed that for 200 GeV collisions, the C_{6}/C_{2} ratio becomes progressively negative from peripheral to central collisions. Transport model calculations without critical dynamics predict mostly positive values except for the most central collisions within uncertainties. These observations seem to favor a smooth crossover in the high-energy nuclear collisions at top RHIC energy.

Molecular characterization and clinical outcomes in EGFR-mutant de novo MET-overexpressed advanced non-small-cell lung cancer. ESMO Open 2021; 7:100347. [PMID: 34953403 PMCID: PMC8717426 DOI: 10.1016/j.esmoop.2021.100347] [Citation(s) in RCA: 1] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.3] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Download PDF] [Figures] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 05/27/2021] [Revised: 08/19/2021] [Accepted: 11/20/2021] [Indexed: 11/26/2022] Open
Abstract
Background Approximately 2%-8% of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) harbors concurrent epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) sensitizing mutation and mesenchymal–epithelial transition factor (MET) amplification prior to EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI) therapy. This study aimed to investigate the optimal first-line therapeutic options for patients with concurrent EGFR-mutant, MET-overexpressed/amplified advanced NSCLC. Methods A total of 104 treatment-naïve patients with EGFR-mutant de novo MET-overexpressed advanced NSCLC were identified using immunohistochemistry and stratified to four groups according to treatment regimen: EGFR-TKI monotherapy (n = 48), EGFR-TKI combined with either crizotinib (n = 9) or chemotherapy (n = 12), and chemotherapy (n = 35). A subpopulation of 28 patients was also tested with next-generation sequencing (NGS). Objective response rate (ORR) and progression-free survival (PFS) outcomes were analyzed according to treatment strategies and molecular features. Results All the patients (n = 104) achieved ORR of 36.5% and median PFS (mPFS) of 7.0 months. Baseline clinicopathologic characteristics were similar among the four treatment groups. Compared with chemotherapy, EGFR-TKI monotherapy or EGFR-TKI combination therapy achieved significantly higher ORR (P < 0.001) and longer mPFS (P = 0.003). No ORR or PFS difference was observed between EGFR-TKI monotherapy and combination therapy. In the NGS-identified population (n = 28), patients who received EGFR-TKI plus crizotinib (n = 9) achieved similar ORR (88.9% versus 57.9%, P = 0.195) and mPFS (9.0 versus 8.5 months, hazard ratio 1.10, 95% confidence interval 0.43-2.55, P = 0.45) than those who received EGFR-TKI monotherapy (n = 19), regardless of MET copy number status. Grade 3/4 rashes were significantly more among patients who received EGFR-TKI plus crizotinib (P = 0.026). Conclusions Our findings provided clinical evidence that patients with concurrent EGFR sensitizing mutation and de novo MET amplification/overexpression could benefit from first-line EGFR-TKI monotherapy. Concomitant EGFR sensitizing mutation and MET overexpression/amplification were detected in 2.6% of lung cancer patients. EGFR-TKI monotherapy elicited a higher response rate and longer PFS than chemotherapy. EGFR-TKI with or without crizotinib elicited comparable PFS regardless of MET copy number. EGFR-TKI monotherapy achieved lower number of grade 3/4 adverse events than EGFR-TKI plus crizotinib.

Can a Healthcare Quality Improvement Initiative Reduce Disparity in the Treatment Delay among ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction Patients with Different Arrival Modes? Evidence from 33 General Hospitals and Their Anticipated Impact on Healthcare during Disasters and Public Health Emergencies. Healthcare (Basel) 2021; 9:1462. Abstract
(1) Background: Chest pain center accreditation has been associated with improved timelines of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for ST-segment elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI). However, evidence from low- and middle-income regions was insufficient, and whether the sensitivity to improvements differs between walk-in and emergency medical service (EMS)-transported patients remained unclear. In this study, we aimed to examine the association of chest pain center accreditation status with door-to-balloon (D2B) time and the potential modification effect of arrival mode. (2) Methods: The associations were examined using generalized linear mixed models, and the effect modification of arrival mode was examined by incorporating an interaction term in the models. (3) Results: In 4186 STEMI patients, during and after accreditation were respectively associated with 65% (95% CI: 54%, 73%) and 71% (95% CI: 61%, 79%) reduced risk of D2B time being more than 90 min (using before accreditation as the reference). Decreases of 27.88 (95% CI: 19.57, 36.22) minutes and 26.55 (95% CI: 17.45, 35.70) minutes in D2B were also observed for the during and after accreditation groups, respectively. The impact of accreditation on timeline improvement was greater for EMS-transported patients than for walk-in patients. (4) Conclusions: EMS-transported patients were more sensitive to the shortened in-hospital delay associated with the initiative, which could exacerbate the existing disparity among patients with different arrival modes.

Abstract
Using a dataset of 6.32 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} annihilation data collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4178 and 4226 MeV, we have measured the absolute branching fraction of the leptonic decay D_{s}^{+}→τ^{+}ν_{τ} via τ^{+}→e^{+}ν_{e}ν[over ¯]_{τ}, and find B_{D_{s}^{+}→τ^{+}ν_{τ}}=(5.27±0.10±0.12)×10^{-2}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The precision is improved by a factor of 2 compared to the previous best measurement. Combining with f_{D_{s}^{+}} from lattice quantum chromodynamics calculations or the |V_{cs}| from the CKMfitter group, we extract |V_{cs}|=0.978±0.009±0.012 and f_{D_{s}^{+}}=(251.1±2.4±3.0) MeV, respectively. Combining our result with the world averages of B_{D_{s}^{+}→τ^{+}ν_{τ}} and B_{D_{s}^{+}→μ^{+}ν_{μ}}, we obtain the ratio of the branching fractions B_{D_{s}^{+}→τ^{+}ν_{τ}}/B_{D_{s}^{+}→μ^{+}ν_{μ}}=9.72±0.37, which is consistent with the standard model prediction of lepton flavor universality.

Abstract
In order to discuss the necessity of repeated renal arteriography in the treatment of severe bleeding after percutaneous nephrolithotomy, this study retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of patients with severe bleeding after percutaneous nephrolithotomy in the Department of Urology Surgery of the First Hospital of China Medical University from August 2010 to July 2020, summarily analyzing treatments, outcomes and follow-up results of 27 patients who were treated by renal arteriography more than twice. Of these 27 patients who underwent repeated renal arteriography, 23 of them were treated by two times, 4 by three times, all of whom were diagnosed as renal vascular injury. And 15 of them were diagnosed as pseudoaneurysm, 4 of them renal arteriovenous fistula, and 8 of them pseudoaneurysm combined with renal arteriovenous fistula. After clear diagnosis, all these patients were performed with renal artery embolization, after which the symptoms of hematuria and lumbar discomfort were relieved or disappeared immediately. These patients were followed up from 6 months to 5 years, without corresponding symptoms recurring and with the renal function equivalent to that before embolization. The results showed that repeated renal arteriography was of great significance in the treatment of patients with severe bleeding after percutaneous nephrolithotomy, helping to clarify the cause of bleeding and giving appropriate and timely treatment.

Abstract
Using 2.93 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} collision data taken with the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV, the observation of the D^{0}→K_{1}(1270)^{-}e^{+}ν_{e} semileptonic decay is presented. The statistical significance of the decay D^{0}→K_{1}(1270)^{-}e^{+}ν_{e} is greater than 10σ. The branching fraction of D^{0}→K_{1}(1270)^{-}e^{+}ν_{e} is measured to be (1.09±0.13_{-0.16}^{+0.09}±0.12)×10^{-3}. Here, the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third originates from the assumed branching fraction of K_{1}(1270)^{-}→K^{-}π^{+}π^{-}. The fraction of longitudinal polarization in D^{0}→K_{1}(1270)^{-}e^{+}ν_{e} is determined for the first time to be 0.50±0.19_{stat}±0.08_{syst}.

Abstract
The absolute branching fraction of Λ→pμ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{μ} is reported for the first time based on an e^{+}e^{-} annihilation sample of 10×10^{9} J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at sqrt[s]=3.097 GeV. The branching fraction is determined to be B(Λ→pμ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{μ})=[1.48±0.21(stat)±0.08(syst)]×10^{-4}, which is improved by about 30% in precision over the previous indirect measurements. Combining this result with the world average of B(Λ→pe^{-}ν[over ¯]_{e}), we obtain the ratio {[Γ(Λ→pμ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{μ})]/[Γ(Λ→pe^{-}ν[over ¯]_{e})]} to be 0.178±0.028, which agrees with the standard model prediction assuming lepton flavor universality. The asymmetry of the branching fractions of Λ→pμ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{μ} and Λ[over ¯]→p[over ¯]μ^{+}ν_{μ} is also determined, and no evidence for CP violation is found.

Abstract
We report on the first measurement of charm-strange meson D_{s}^{±} production at midrapidity in Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV from the STAR experiment. The yield ratio between strange (D_{s}^{±}) and nonstrange (D^{0}) open-charm mesons is presented and compared to model calculations. A significant enhancement, relative to a pythia simulation of p+p collisions, is observed in the D_{s}^{±}/D^{0} yield ratio in Au+Au collisions over a large range of collision centralities. Model calculations incorporating abundant strange-quark production in the quark-gluon plasma and coalescence hadronization qualitatively reproduce the data. The transverse-momentum integrated yield ratio of D_{s}^{±}/D^{0} at midrapidity is consistent with a prediction from a statistical hadronization model with the parameters constrained by the yields of light and strange hadrons measured at the same collision energy. These results suggest that the coalescence of charm quarks with strange quarks in the quark-gluon plasma plays an important role in D_{s}^{±}-meson production in heavy-ion collisions.

Abstract
The Breit-Wheeler process which produces matter and antimatter from photon collisions is experimentally investigated through the observation of 6085 exclusive electron-positron pairs in ultraperipheral Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV. The measurements reveal a large fourth-order angular modulation of cos4Δϕ=(16.8±2.5)% and smooth invariant mass distribution absent of vector mesons (ϕ, ω, and ρ) at the experimental limit of ≤0.2% of the observed yields. The differential cross section as a function of e^{+}e^{-} pair transverse momentum P_{⊥} peaks at low value with sqrt[⟨P_{⊥}^{2}⟩]=38.1±0.9 MeV and displays a significant centrality dependence. These features are consistent with QED calculations for the collision of linearly polarized photons quantized from the extremely strong electromagnetic fields generated by the highly charged Au nuclei at ultrarelativistic speed. The experimental results have implications for vacuum birefringence and for mapping the magnetic field which is important for emergent QCD phenomena.

EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2021; 24:11528-11535. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Previous studies have shown the involvement of microRNA-449b-5p (miR-449b-5p) and MDM4 in tumor development. This study aims to illustrate the role of miR-449b-5p in inhibiting proliferative capacity of endometrial carcinoma (EC) by targeting MDM4. PATIENTS AND METHODS Expression levels of miR-449b-5p and MDM4 in tumor tissues and paracancerous ones of EC patients were determined. Relationships between their levels and clinical parameters of EC patients were analyzed. Subsequently, regulatory effects of miR-449b-5p and MDM4 on proliferative capacities in KLE and HEC-1B cells were assessed by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) and colony formation assay, respectively. Thereafter, in vivo xenograft models were established in nude mice administrated with KLE cells overexpressing MDM4 or those with miR-449b-5p knockdown. Then, tumor weight and tumor volume were measured after mouse sacrifice. Finally, the interaction between miR-449b-5p and MDM4 was explored by Luciferase assay. RESULTS It was found that MDM4 was upregulated and miR-449b-5p was downregulated in EC tissues. Highly expressed MDM4 and lowly expressed miR-449b-5p were unfavorable to prognosis in EC patients, manifesting as a larger tumor size, more advanced tumor stage and lower overall survival. Besides, overexpression of MDM4 enhanced in vitro proliferative capacity in EC cells and in vivo tumorigenesis in nude mice bearing EC. Similarly, knockdown of miR-449b-5p yielded similar results. Luciferase assay confirmed that MDM4 was the target gene binding to miR-449b-5p, and its level was negatively correlated with miR-449b-5p level in EC. CONCLUSIONS MiR-449b-5p and MDM4 are downregulated and upregulated in EC species, respectively. They are closely linked to tumor size, tumor stage and overall survival in EC patients. Through negatively regulating MDM4 level, miR-449b-5p inhibits proliferative capacity in EC cells.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to detect microRNA-222-5p (miR-222-5p) levels in placental tissues of preeclampsia (PE) pregnancies, and to explore the role of miR-222-5p in the proliferative and migratory potentials of trophoblast cell line HTR-8/SVneo. PATIENTS AND METHODS Expression levels of miR-222-5p and AHNAK in placental tissues of PE pregnancies (n=24) and healthy pregnancies (n=24) were detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Potential influences of miR-222-5p and AHNAK on proliferative, migratory and apoptotic potentials in HTR-8/SVneo cells were examined. At last, Luciferase assay was conducted to illustrate the interaction between miR-222-5p and AHNAK in trophoblasts. RESULTS It was found that miR-222-5p was downregulated in placental tissues of PE pregnancies. Overexpression of miR-222-5p stimulated proliferative and migratory potentials, and inhibited apoptosis in HTR-8/SVneo cells. Moreover, AHNAK was the target gene binding to miR-222-5p, and overexpression of AHNAK inhibited proliferative and migratory potentials and promoted apoptosis in HTR-8/SVneo cells. CONCLUSIONS MiR-222-5p stimulates proliferative and migratory potentials and inhibits apoptosis in HTR-8/SVneo cells by negatively regulating AHNAK.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the therapeutic effect of rCsHscB derived from Clonorchis sinensis on dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced chronic ulcerative colitis in mice. OBJECTIVE C57BL/6 mice were randomized into negative control (NC) group (n= 10), rCsHscB group (n=10), DSS group (n=15), and DSS+rCsHscB group (n=15), and in the latter two groups, chronic ulcerative colitis was induced in the mice using 2% DSS. In rCsHscB and DSS+ rCsHscB groups, the mice received intraperitoneal injections of 125 μg/mL rCsHscB on the 4th and 7th day following DSS administration, and PBS was injected in the other two groups. The mice were euthanized on the 84th day, and pathological changes of the colon were evaluated by HE and Masson staining. The levels of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in the peripheral blood and lamina propria gastric lymphocytes (LPL) were analyzed by flow cytometer; the levels of IL-6, MCP-1 and IL-10 in colon homogenate were determined using ELISA, and the phosphorylation of ERK1/2, JNK and P38 was detected with Western blotting. OBJECTIVE Compared with those in NC group, the mice in rCsHscB group exhibited no adverse responses to the treatment. The mice in DSS group had severe pathologies in the colon with significantly increased ratios of CD4+ and CD4+/CD8+ T cells in peripheral blood and LPL, increased levels of IL-6 and MCP-1 but no obvious changes in IL-10 in colon homogenate, and significantly augmented phosphorylation levels of ERK1/2, JNK and P38. Compared with those in DSS group, the mice in DSS+ rCsHscB group showed ameliorated colon pathologies with decreased CD4+T/CD8+T cell ratio in the peripheral blood and LPL, significantly decreased IL-6 and MCP-1 levels and increased IL-10 in colon homogenate, and lowered phosphorylation levels of ERK1/2, JNK and P38. OBJECTIVE rCsHscB can produce therapeutic effect on DSS-induced chronic ulcerative colitis in mice possibly by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory factors and regulating the balance of CD4+/CD8+T cells through the MAPK pathway.

Abstract
Reducing the treatment delay by organizing delivery of care on a regional basis is a priority for improving the quality of ST-segment elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI) care. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the combined measures on quality metrics of healthcare delivery in Suzhou. The data were collected from the National Chest Pain Center (CPC) Data Reporting Database. 4775 patients were recruited, and after propensity-score matching, 1078 pairs were finally included for analysis. We examined the changes in quality metrics of care including prehospital and in-hospital processes, and clinic outcomes. Quality improvement (QI) implementation improved most process indicators. However, these improvements did not yield decreased in-hospital mortality. The door-to-balloon and the FMC-to-device time decreased from 85.0 and 98.0 min to 78 and 88 min, respectively (p < 0.001). Cases transferred directly via EMS had a greater improvement in most of process indicators. The proportion of patients transferred directly via EMS was 10.3%, much lower than that of self-transported patients at 58.3%. Tertiary hospitals showed greater performance improvement in process indicators than secondary hospitals. The percentage of cases using EMS remained low for suburban areas. The establishment of coordinated STEMI care needs to be accompanied with solving the fragmented situation of the prehospital and hospital care, and patient delay should be addressed, especially in suburban areas and on transferred-in inpatients.

Abstract
Food allergy is a global problem. Peanut is one of the most common food allergens that can result in anaphylaxis, even with milligram exposure. Most peanut allergies could persist lifelong. The current standard of care for peanut allergy is strict dietary avoidance and immediate treatment of allergic reaction triggered by accident exposure. Oral immunotherapy (OIT) induces an increased reactivity threshold via modulation of the immune system. In recent years, peanut OIT has been developed to protect peanut-allergic individuals against severe or life-threating allergic reaction. This review discussed the update of the mechanism, efficacy, safety and impact on quality of life of peanut OIT for peanut allergy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficiency of a recombinase-aided amplification (RAA) assay for the detection of Schistosoma japonicum infections in Oncomelania hupensis snails. METHODS A group test was employed. Fifty Oncomelania snails were collected as a detection sample. The detection samples without infected snails were designated as negative specimens, while the detection samples that contained different numbers of infected snails were designated as positive specimens. A total of 10 negative specimens, 10 positive specimens containing 1 infected snail, 20 positive specimens containing 2 infected snails and 10 positive specimens containing 3 infected snails were assigned. Following random grouping, 40 specimens were subject to the florescent RAA assay using a blind method. The miradium shedding method served as a gold standard, and the sensitivity, specificity, Youden's index and coincidence rate of the florescent RAA assay were estimated. In addition, 20 samples consisted of 5 negative specimens and 15 positive specimens with 1, 2 and 3 infected snails respectively were grouped randomly. The same specimens were detected using the crushing method and fluorescent RAA assay with the blind method in a paired-design manner. Then, the test results were compared and analyzed. RESULTS Florescent RAA assay detected 29 positives in the 30 specimens containing different numbers of infected snails, with a sensitivity of 96.67%, and 8 negatives in the 10 detection specimens without infected snails, with a specificity of 80.00%, showing a Youden's index of 0.77. The coincidence rate was 100% among 10 repeated assays for a detection specimen. In addition, there was no significant difference in the detection of infected snails between the florescent RAA assay and the crushing method (χ2 = 0, P > 0.05), and the actual coincidence rates of the florescent RAA assay and crushing method were 95.00% (19/20) and 90.00% (18/20) with the real results, respectively. CONCLUSION Fluorescent RAA assay has a favorable efficiency for the detection of S. japonicum infections in Oncomelania snails, which shows a potential in screening of S. japonicum-infected Oncomelania snails.

Global Polarization of Ξ and Ω Hyperons in Au+Au Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2021; 126:162301. Abstract
Global polarization of Ξ and Ω hyperons has been measured for the first time in Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV. The measurements of the Ξ^{-} and Ξ[over ¯]^{+} hyperon polarization have been performed by two independent methods, via analysis of the angular distribution of the daughter particles in the parity violating weak decay Ξ→Λ+π, as well as by measuring the polarization of the daughter Λ hyperon, polarized via polarization transfer from its parent. The polarization, obtained by combining the results from the two methods and averaged over Ξ^{-} and Ξ[over ¯]^{+}, is measured to be ⟨P_{Ξ}⟩=0.47±0.10(stat)±0.23(syst)% for the collision centrality 20%-80%. The ⟨P_{Ξ}⟩ is found to be slightly larger than the inclusive Λ polarization and in reasonable agreement with a multiphase transport model. The ⟨P_{Ξ}⟩ is found to follow the centrality dependence of the vorticity predicted in the model, increasing toward more peripheral collisions. The global polarization of Ω, ⟨P_{Ω}⟩=1.11±0.87(stat)±1.97(syst)% was obtained by measuring the polarization of daughter Λ in the decay Ω→Λ+K, assuming the polarization transfer factor C_{ΩΛ}=1.

Abstract
Objective: To describe the epidemiological characteristics and clinical features of patients with fatal coronavirus disease (COVID-19), in order to provide evidence for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Methods: In this retrospective study, we analyzed data on 141 fatal cases of confirmed COVID-19 that occurred among patients in Jinyintan Hospital in Wuhan, China, from January 20 to March 6, 2020. We analyzed their epidemiological characteristics, clinical and radiological features, laboratory results, and treatment. Results: Of the 141 patients (49 females, 92 males), the median age was 77 years (range: 24-92 years). The most likely source of exposure included the Huanan seafood market (n=3, 2%), family members (n=6, 4%), and hospital-acquired infection (n=8, 6%). The remaining 116 patients (72%) had no known source of exposure. Of the patients, 101 (72%) had chronic diseases. The most common comorbidities were hypertension, diabetes and coronary heart disease. The most common clinical manifestations were fever (n=121, 85%), dry cough (n=77, 54%), shortness of breath (n=23, 16%), and chest pain (n=15, 10%). Less common clinical manifestations included fatigue (n=7, 4%), headache (n=3, 2%), disorders of consciousness (n=2, 1%), diarrhea (n=2, 1%) and lumbago (n=1, 0.7%). In terms of laboratory tests, the absolute value of lymphocytes in most patients was reduced (n=132, 94%), but C-reactive protein (n=141, 100%), procalcitonin(n=121, 89%), serum amyloid (n=140, 99%) were significantly increased. The most common findings on imaging of the lungs were bilateral multiple mottling and ground-glass opacity (n=101, 72%), mainly in the lower lobes (n=15, 10%), with lesions being more common on the right. Other imaging findings included diffuse consolidation (n=4, 3%), ground-glass opacity and consolidation (n=20, 14%), and pneumothorax (n=1, 0.7%). All patients were treated with antibiotics and antiviral drugs. Other treatments included immunoglobulin (n=49, 35%), corticosteroids (n=45, 32%), continuous renal replacement therapy (n=24, 17%), and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (n=12, 9%). All patients were treated with oxygen therapy. The mode of administration included invasive mechanical ventilation (n=61, 43%), noninvasive mechanical ventilation (n=65, 46%), and nasal catheter oxygen inhalation (n=15, 11%). The direct causes of death were acute respiratory distress syndrome (n=90, 64%), multiple organ failure (n=24, 17%), sudden cardiac arrest (n=11, 8%), viral myocarditis (n=8, 5%), acute myocardial infarction (n=4, 3%), cerebrovascular accident (n=3, 2%), and acute gastrointestinal bleeding (n=1, 0.7%). Conclusions: Risk factors for death due to COVID-19 included older age, male sex, and the presence of comorbidities. The most common direct causes of death were acute respiratory distress syndrome, multiple organ failure, sudden cardiac arrest, and viral myocarditis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The National Chest Pain Center Accreditation Program (CHANGE) is the first hospital-based, multifaceted, nationwide quality improvement (QI) initiative, to monitor and improve the quality of the ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) care in China. The QI initiatives, as implementation strategies, include a bundle of evidence-based interventions adapted for implementation in China. During the pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), fear of infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, national lockdowns, and altered health care priorities have highlighted the program's importance in improving STEMI care quality. This study aims to minimize the adverse impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the quality of STEMI care, by developing interventions that optimize the QI initiatives, implementing and evaluating the optimized QI initiatives, and developing scale-up activities of the optimized QI initiatives in response to COVID-19 and other public health emergencies. METHODS A stepped wedge cluster randomized control trial will be conducted in three selected cities of China: Wuhan, Suzhou, and Shenzhen. Two districts have been randomly selected in each city, yielding a total of 24 registered hospitals. This study will conduct a rollout in these hospitals every 3 months. The 24 hospitals will be randomly assigned to four clusters, and each cluster will commence the intervention (optimized QI initiatives) at one of the four steps. We will conduct hospital-based assessments, questionnaire surveys among health care providers, community-based household surveys, and key informant interviews during the trial. All outcome measures will be organized using the RE-AIM (reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, maintenance) framework, including implementation outcomes, service outcomes (e.g., treatment time), and patient outcomes (e.g., in-hospital mortality and 1-year complication). The Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research framework will be used to identify factors that influence implementation of the optimized QI interventions. DISCUSSION The study findings could be translated into a systematic solution to implementing QI initiatives in response to COVID-19 and future potential major public health emergencies. Such actionable knowledge is critical for implementors of scale-up activities in low- and middle-income settings. TRIAL REGISTRATION ChiCTR 2100043319 . Registered on 10 February 2021.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the histopathological effect of gas explosion on rats, and to explore the metabolic alterations associated with gas explosion-induced acute blast lung injury (ABLI) in real roadway environment using metabolomics analyses. All rats were exposed to the gas explosion source at different distance points (160 m and 240 m) except the control group. Respiratory function indexes were monitored and lung tissue analysis was performed to correlate histopathological effect to serum metabolomics. Their sera samples were collected to measure the metabolic alterations by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS). HE staining in lung showed that the gas explosion caused obvious inflammatory pulmonary injury, which was consistent with respiratory function monitoring results and the serum metabolomics analysis results. The metabolomics identified 9 significantly metabolites different between the control- and ABLI rats. 2-aminoadipic acid, L-methionine, L-alanine, L-lysine, L-threonine, cholic acid and L-histidine were significantly increased in the exposed groups. Citric acid and aconitic acid were significantly decreased after exposure. Pathway analyses identified 8 perturbed metabolic pathways, which provided novel potential mechanisms for the gas explosion-induced ABLI. Therefore, metabolomics analysis identified both known and unknown alterations in circulating biomarkers, adding an integral mechanistic insight into the gas explosion-induced ABLI in real roadway environment.

Abstract
We report a study of the processes of e^{+}e^{-}→K^{+}D_{s}^{-}D^{*0} and K^{+}D_{s}^{*-}D^{0} based on e^{+}e^{-} annihilation samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at BEPCII at five center-of-mass energies ranging from 4.628 to 4.698 GeV with a total integrated luminosity of 3.7 fb^{-1}. An excess of events over the known contributions of the conventional charmed mesons is observed near the D_{s}^{-}D^{*0} and D_{s}^{*-}D^{0} mass thresholds in the K^{+} recoil-mass spectrum for events collected at sqrt[s]=4.681 GeV. The structure matches a mass-dependent-width Breit-Wigner line shape, whose pole mass and width are determined as (3982.5_{-2.6}^{+1.8}±2.1) MeV/c^{2} and (12.8_{-4.4}^{+5.3}±3.0) MeV, respectively. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The significance of the resonance hypothesis is estimated to be 5.3 σ over the contributions only from the conventional charmed mesons. This is the first candidate for a charged hidden-charm tetraquark with strangeness, decaying into D_{s}^{-}D^{*0} and D_{s}^{*-}D^{0}. However, the properties of the excess need further exploration with more statistics.

Abstract
Nonmonotonic variation with collision energy (sqrt[s_{NN}]) of the moments of the net-baryon number distribution in heavy-ion collisions, related to the correlation length and the susceptibilities of the system, is suggested as a signature for the quantum chromodynamics critical point. We report the first evidence of a nonmonotonic variation in the kurtosis times variance of the net-proton number (proxy for net-baryon number) distribution as a function of sqrt[s_{NN}] with 3.1 σ significance for head-on (central) gold-on-gold (Au+Au) collisions measured solenoidal tracker at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Data in noncentral Au+Au collisions and models of heavy-ion collisions without a critical point show a monotonic variation as a function of sqrt[s_{NN}].

Abstract
One of the main challenges in ultrafast material science is to trigger phase transitions with short pulses of light. Here we show how strain waves, launched by electronic and structural precursor phenomena, determine a coherent macroscopic transformation pathway for the semiconducting-to-metal transition in bistable Ti3O5 nanocrystals. Employing femtosecond powder X-ray diffraction, we measure the lattice deformation in the phase transition as a function of time. We monitor the early intra-cell distortion around the light absorbing metal dimer and the long range deformations governed by acoustic waves propagating from the laser-exposed Ti3O5 surface. We developed a simplified elastic model demonstrating that picosecond switching in nanocrystals happens concomitantly with the propagating acoustic wavefront, several decades faster than thermal processes governed by heat diffusion.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Liquid biopsy based on 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) signatures of plasma cell-free DNA (cfDNA) originating from tumor cells provides a novel approach for early diagnosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Here, we sought to develop a reliable model using cfDNA 5hmC signatures and protein biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis of HCC. PATIENTS AND METHODS We carried out genome-wide 5hmC sequencing of cfDNA samples collected from 165 healthy volunteers, 62 liver cirrhosis (LC) patients and 135 HCC patients. A sensitive 5hmC diagnostic model was developed based on 5hmC signatures selected by sparse Partial Least Squares Discriminant Analysis and cross-validation to define the weighted diagnostic score (wd-score). Then, we combined protein biomarkers with the wd-score to build a more robust score (HCC score) by logistic regression. RESULTS The distribution pattern of differential 5hmC regions could clearly distinguish HCC patients, LC patients and healthy volunteers. The wd-score based on 64 5hmC signatures in cfDNA achieves 93.24% of area under the curve (AUC) to distinguish HCC patients from non-HCC patients, and the HCC score by combing protein biomarkers achieves 92.75% of AUC to distinguish HCC patients from LC patients. Meanwhile, the HCC score showed high capacity for screening high recurrence risk patients after receiving surgical resection, and appeared to be an independent indicator for both relapse-free survival (P = 0.00865) and overall survival (P = 0.000739). Furthermore, the values of the HCC score in patients' longitudinal plasma samples were positively associated with tumor burden dynamics during follow-up. CONCLUSION We have developed and validated a novel non-invasive liquid biopsy strategy for HCC diagnosis, prognosis and surveillance during HCC progression.

Abstract
Background Human skin, which is constantly exposed to solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR), has a unique ability to respond by increasing its pigmentation in a protective process driven by melanogenesis in human epidermal melanocytes (HEMs). However, the molecular mechanisms used by HEMs to detect and respond to UVR remain unclear. Objectives To investigate the function and potential mechanism of opsin 5 (OPN5), a photoreceptor responsive to UVR wavelengths, in melanogenesis in HEMs. Methods Melanin content in HEMs was determined using the NaOH method, and activity of tyrosinase (TYR) (a key enzyme in melanin synthesis) was determined by the l‐DOPA method. OPN5 expression in UVR‐treated vs. untreated HEMs and explant tissues was detected by reverse‐transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT‐qPCR), Western blotting and immunofluorescence. Short interfering RNA‐mediated OPN5 knockdown and a lentivirus OPN5 overexpression model were used to examine their respective effects on TYR, tyrosinase‐related protein 1 (TRP1), TRP2 and microphthalmia‐associated transcription factor (MITF) expression, under UVR. Changes in expression of TYR, TRP1 and TRP2 caused by changes in OPN5 expression level were detected by RT‐qPCR and Western blot. Furthermore, changes in signalling pathway proteins were assayed. Results We found that OPN5 is the key sensor in HEMs responsible for UVR‐induced melanogenesis. OPN5‐induced melanogenesis required Ca2+‐dependent G protein‐coupled receptor‐ and protein kinase C signal transduction, thus contributing to the UVR‐induced MITF response to mediate downstream cellular effects, and providing evidence of OPN5 function in mammalian phototransduction. Remarkably, OPN5 activation was necessary for UVR‐induced increase in cellular melanin and has an inherent function in melanocyte melanogenesis. Conclusions Our results provide insight into the molecular mechanisms of UVR sensing and phototransduction in melanocytes, and may reveal molecular targets for preventing pigmentation or pigment diseases.
What is already known about this topic?
Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) induces a protective response to DNA damage mediated by melanin synthesis in human epidermal melanocytes (HEMs). Tyrosinase (TYR), with tyrosinase‐related proteins (TRP1, TRP2), are the key enzymes for melanin synthesis. Microphthalmia‐associated transcription factor regulates key genes for melanocyte development and differentiation, and can stimulate melanogenesis by activating transcription of TYR and other pigmentation genes, including TRP1. Opsin 5 (OPN5) is known to function as a photoreceptor responsive to wavelengths in the near UV spectrum.
What does this study add?UVR induces melanogenesis in HEMs via OPN5. OPN5 regulates expression of TYR, TRP1 and TRP2 through the calcium‐dependent G protein‐coupled and protein kinase C signalling pathways. OPN5 has an inherent role in HEMs in mediating melanogenesis.
What is the translational message?OPN5 was discovered as a key sensor for UVR‐induced melanogenesis in human skin melanocytes. It could be a target for early treatment of pigmentation or pigment diseases, to provide a more personalized and economically feasible method.
